FYI, LaserDisc isn't digital. The video is actually analog despite the fact it looks like a big CD, its not.

My philosophy is, if it's free you might as well try it. The trial will let you play to level 20, with some community restrictions (no joining guilds, group finders, etc.) but you can see how the different classes play, how questing works, and a general impression of what the world is like.

for WoW. That link has shows a discount on the amazon site. If you buy the newest expansion, all previous expansions are included. It will come with a level boost, which I strongly recommend you save for the moment and continue playing your character that you've picked to be your main until you get to at least close to level cap. You'll see reasons for that throughout the subreddit, but what it basically comes down to is you don't want to be overwhelmed by the amount of information you get at max level without having played through the content to begin with.

TL;DR: get the trial, have fun with it. If you buy it, buy cheap. Save your boost.
