For those complaining that they missed out - you can get a RaspberryPI and 2 USB SNES controllers for less than the $80 they are asking for this mini SNES.
PI - 35.70
Case - 7.75
Controller 2 pack - 13.99
SD Card - 12.99
RetroPI OS - Free
Total: ~$70.00
Edit: as others have pointed out, you need a power brick. $10.
Also, here is a fantastic guide for building it.
Nintastic Case from thingiverse - 3D print it for cheap
Raspberry Pi 3 from Memory Express - 60 bucks, but the $90 kit has a psu and a memory card (a used RPi2 will also work perfectly well)
RetroPie - free
USB SNES Controllers x2 - 17 bucks
For around 100 bucks you can build a better retro game system that plays every game made from 1980-2000. I made one, and I love it.
ETA: Thanks for the gold!
Make an all purpose travelpi.
Get a PI3, load it up with raspbian or your preferred OS and throw it together with this Screen and case combo. Add some heatsinks to keep it cool, put emulation station on there for all the downtime gaming action you could ask for. Then have some fun playing with accessories. Here's a bluetooth vehicle diagnostics monitor you can use with pyOBD to monitor any 96 and up vehicle to check gas mileage and check error codes. Here's a GPS module for logging miles and checking locations and for the times you just absolutely must get wifi no matter what heres an adapter and antenna that will reach out and touch someone in the next country.
Edit: game pads
They sell USB SNES type controllers. I use them with my emulators.

I can confirm that these work. They're simple - and cheap. You don't need an XBox controller to play Asteroids!

Haven't built mine yet but everything is arriving today and I should be set.
$70 - Cannakit (Includes raspberry pi 3 and everything you need to set it up. You can gets things a little cheaper if you order them separately but this is simple and works for me) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01C6Q2GSY
$10 - SNES Style USB Controller 2-pack (not necessary if you already have USB controllers) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KJS4ILY
$16 - Keyboard mouse for tv thingy (this is not a requirement but you need some form of USB keyboard and mouse to config things or you have to use SSH for everything) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KF9IVKC
So $96 total. A lot more than the $35 people try to sell you on raspberry pi's for but I think it will be a nice setup though could've gone cheaper. We'll see.
Avec la manette de SNES USB si on veut faire authentique.
Here you go (SNES).

You get two controllers for $10. If you hunt around, you can sometimes find them a dollar or two less.
There are, however, some caveats. First, Beach Buggy Racing doesn't work with these or with any other controllers - they say that they will fix that in an update in the future. Also, they are super cheap plastic controllers and doing diagonals on the pad joystick isn't as easy as one might hope. So up/down/right/left is fine but if you want to go upper-right, I find that it's not as precise as a real joystick.
But they are small, cheap and work well enough.
The PI isn't much cheaper than a retail-priced classic...
Total: $69.13
But there is the fact that the games wouldn't exactly be legal...
Of course, you could go all out and get a broken SNES for the case, wire up the actual controller ports, and even make it read genuine cartridges, that could end up costing quite a bit more though, although, making the pi dump real carts would make it more-less legal.
In the end, you're cutting corners or not giving users a non-techie-friendly experience...
Most people would expect a power switch and a reset button (to "reset" the pi to the main screen)...
When you start adding things like a shutdown circuit, the cost starts to exceed the classic...
Yes, I know there's a shutdown option in RetroPie, I know you don't need the circuit, but it makes it more user-friendly.

Memory Card 32GB
Total is $63 . Then you can find a bluetooth controller or a wired USB one like this 2-pack for $13
So in total your spending close to $73. But unlike the NES Mini this will play Atari, Gameboy COlor, Gameboy Advance, Sega, Snes, PS1, N64(results vary). If you want more PS1 and N64, maybe look into a bigger SD card. If you want SNES and below the 32GB is more than enough.
ALso Retropie has some cool ports build right into the OS you can install very easly.
Step #1 - set aspect ratio to 4:3 (or the correct 8:7).
Step #2 - get a proper controller: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KJS4ILY
