I couldn't find anything that takes a sim to hook a phone to but you could use the current phone with bluetooth to connect it to a normal phone.

You could get a Cordless Phone System with bluetooth or get something like this Bluetooth Gateway. Just leave the phone plugged in by the base station / gateway.

So after a few suggestions I started digging around and evidently something called a "bluetooth gateway" exists that exposes your smartphone's telephony abilities to a bluetooth-connected RJ11 port, that even yields a fake dialtone when the phone isn't active. Supposed to be DTMF compatible.

One example:

Any reason this wouldn't work with a POTS-style phone patch, like this?

Have you tried one of these? you basically connect it to the phone via Bluetooth and connect the other end to your home phone lines. All your home phones instantly become your cellphone.

I have that system and have to say it works pretty well.

The phone can pair with 4 cell phones I think, but only two can be enabled to ring through to the phone.

Once paired, you can download the cell phone's contact list to a directory separate from the other cell and separate from the base. Contacts can be obtained from any of the handsets, so you only have to to it once.

For my wife's blackberry, it automatically connects if bluetooth is enabled on the phone. It's really handy when the phone is on the charger and you're in another room. Since mine's an android, I never turn bluetooth on..

If you don't want to buy a new home phone, a quick googlesearch came up with this device: http://www.amazon.com/Xtreme-Technologies-BT-Bluetooth-Gateway/dp/B00135XU7Q

This connects a analog phone to a cell phone over Bluetooth. I got one to test with an old alarm. Didn't work for the alarm (my guess is the delay in sending tones) but otherwise worked as advertised.
