I got some of these for my gf and I after she ate it in our steep driveway during the first storm this year. Can't say enough good things about them. They go on and off your regular shoes pretty easily and give you amazing traction on snow and ice. I've been navigating the slickest sidewalks like a boss without even a little bit of a slip. One guy saw me walking around yesterday and offered to buy them from me on the spot!
For the icy slush, I recommend a good pair of willies with thick sock and some fuckin yak tracks so while everyone else has wet feet falling all over the sidewalk, you'll get there dry no problem. They were probably the one reason I survived college. There was a night I stopped counting after seeing 30 people fall on the sidewalks going home from class. I actually saw someone crawling because they kept sliding down the sidewalk (slope),.. but it was cake for me.

I am from an ice and snow climate and they were really popular.
If you fall, aim for your ass. It grows in pregnancy to give us more padding! Haha. I fell on mine cutting down trees last weekend!
Even if you're NOT coming in winter - invest in warmer clothes. When I moved from KC to NH i was cold for about 2 months.
Winter tires are a legitimate expense. Do not think you can get away without them. Same thing with winter snow boots with decent tread. Or get some of these thingies!
Where in NH are you moving? I'm sure we can get you much more info based on how far into the mountains you're going to be.

Oy. So, ok, you think you'll be fine, and I believe that too, but why suffer in the meantime? An epsom salt laced bath will help the aches and pains. And for any future hellish weather, there's YakTraks.
There's an easy fix to this conundrum.
Just gotta get one of the hundreds of brands' ice grips.

It's worth it.
I have a pair of Dunham REVDash Chukka's. They're the most versatile boot I own and they look fantastic with contrasting laces.
They're comfortable for long hours, fine for walking long distances, are waterproof, and you can dress them up or down depending on the occasion. The only minor downside I can think of is that the tread isn't the most grippy I've used on snow and ice, but they get the job done. If you're really legitimately worried, you could throw in a pair of yaktrax.
I'm from Colorado and I am male. I know about boots that hold up well to snow and ice, but are still comfortable in warmer weather. ;)
