Not sure if this is in your budget, but what I did is get this platform bed frame instead of a box spring. This opens up a lot of under the bed storage space. I store Rubbermaid plastic totes filled with canned and dehydrated food, 7 gallon aquatainers, and 5 gallon buckets of bulk grains there. I move around a lot so this foldable bed frame works great for me and let's me keep my preps out of sight and out of the way.
These bed frames by Zinus are great. You just have to unfold it and put the corner braces in place. No tools. Took me less than 10 minutes to do it myself. I have the 18" one and keep large Rubbermade totes under it. There's more storage under my bed than in my closet.

Then the pro move is to get a folding bed frame with tall legs. This frame will fit above most storage bins, definitely the blacks ones with yellow lids! Now you don’t have to sleep on the floor AND you have storage for your bins!
