I would consider nicely laid out wall art, a different lamp, and camouflage for the garbage bin. I like your desk and your white shelves. Get some bedding that looks nice. Maybe once you've selected wall-art there will be a colour that pops, and you could get a throw pillow or two in that colour. Consider a cover for the box springs. Like /u/turbotaco22 I went with a Zinus 14" or 16" (preferred) metal frame off Amazon and hid everything underneath with a good bedskirt.
I bought this one and this headboard but unfortunately they don't connect very well. I had to use metal zip ties to attach the headboard to the frame.
Underneath I use these Ikea bins to store my stuff .
