Pah. How about a $400 rice cooker, with telepathic user interface and teeth whitening? https://www.amazon.com/Zojirushi-NP-NVC18-Induction-Pressure-1-8-Liter/dp/B009QYC60S
OK, that's right where I was too. The highest-end Zoji models run anywhere from $250-$400. But if you're just making straight rice (be it white, brown, sushi, jasmine, etc.) then the extra features like pressure/induction cooking or special menu settings have little benefit. Those mostly help with rice + other stuff, or steaming vegetables, baking cakes, etc. If money doesn't matter, then the $350 NVC10 has every bell and whistle. I'm sure it makes terrific straight rice too. But after a lot of research before Christmas, I decided on the $160 ZCC10 instead. Compared to the cheaper China-made TSC models, the ZCC is made in Japan, has a spherical heating element, and has a couple more sensors for better temp control. It doesn't include steaming racks, induction/pressure, or menu modes for non-rice things to drive up the price. (Though it does include a porridge mode that's supposed to work well for oats which I haven't tested yet.) We haven't used ours extensively yet but I've been very happy with it so far.
Uh, if cost is no object... The King of Rice Cookers
No there isn't a scorch setting. You will be paying a lot more for the scorch setting
"Awesome" rice cookers cost a lot more than that. The Zojirushi induction pressure rice cooker is $515~ AUD on Amazon, and that's for the smaller size. :(
