You absolutely do. ZTE Axon 7 is less than a half the amount you mentioned and can be easily flashed with LineageOS (successor of Cyanogen). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FUF1JKE/

I just replaced my wife's Moto 2014 with the ZTE Axon 7 for her birthday.

It's only $350 on amazon.

After looking at a couple options (Moto G5 plus would be good for your budget, Moto Z play is better for battery), I reckon you might want to go with the ZTE Axon 7. Doesn't have the battery you want, but in terms of everything else it's pretty close to the Asus Zenfone 3 zoom and is CDMA compatible.

Here's the comparison (http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8067&idPhone2=8509)

The ZTE Axon 7 has a better processor (Snapdragon 820 vs 625), better screen (1440p vs 1080p [both are 5.5" and AMOLED]), upgradable to Nougat, is 4GB RAM/64GB storage. While it's battery is decent (3250 mAh), it's not really in the same wheelhouse as the Zenfone's 5000 mAh. It does come with quick-charging 3.0, however, so hopefully that might mitigate the sacrifice. Also, it looks pretty sick. It's currently $370 on amazon:

What state do you live in? Because you can order from B&H and you won't get charged sales tax(unless you live in NY/NJ) and there's free shipping: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1257204-REG/zte_a7g331_axon_7_64gb_smartphone.html

Newegg has a free $10 cable included with the purchase of a Axon 7: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875705055

And then Amazon if you have Prime: https://www.amazon.com/ZTE-Axon-Unlocked-Smartphone-Warranty/dp/B01FUF1JKE

Personally I'd probably buy it from B&H because of saving on sales tax and usually B&H orders take ~3 days to get to my house in SoCal(as long as I order on a Sunday/Monday lol).
