I was searching Phonescoop, but am not sure if that's all of my options, or if their database is accurate. For example, they show the ZTE Axon Pro as not being released yet, while Amazon has reviews dating back to August 2015 for it.

I prefer off-screen (not the software-driven ones) buttons.

Ability to accept a microSD card would be nice, but is not required.

LTE bands 2/4/12, VoLTE, and WCDMA bands 2/4 (3G) are all requirements.

Going to the 50th anniversary Star Trek convention in Vegas this year in August, and I need to bring back some great picture memories, and my Galaxy Avant's camera (specced as 5 MP, tops out at 4.9 MP, but in 4:3, 3.7 MP is the max in 16:9) won't cut it!

The cheapest comparable phone offered directly by TMobile right now is the LG G4 for $400:

Some people have said that it's not as smooth running as other phones though. But it does have a very nice screen.

Some people like the Moto X Pure Edition - we know for sure that it's getting Band 12 in the next few weeks here because some people part of early testing already have it (in addition to official announcements). It's offered on Amazon, but not directly from TMobile. It's one major drawback is that it lacks Wifi Calling because it's a 3rd party phone. It has a decent screen, I think comparable to the Nexus 5.

I personally have a ZTE Axon Pro ($400):

I got this rather than the other options (returning a Moto X) because I've personally found that this phone has the best screen that's the easiest for my eyes to focus with compared to the other phones I looked at or tried. It has Band 12 right now. It also lacks wifi calling unfortunately. I don't know what it is about the screen - the Moto X screen was much nicer than the Htc m9 screen I had before it, but the ZTE Axon Pro screen - there's just something about it that my eyes really like. Dunno if it applies to other people though, my eyes have always been a little weird about focusing on text.

The ZTE Axon Pro has a 32gb model from Amazon Warehouse deals on sale for $300 right now ("very good" condition so it's probably a phone someone bought tried and it was fine but they went with another model), that's probably the best price. After I installed the software update on it it's been a great phone for me.

There's also a Nexus 5x available, it's sold through Google but not directly through TMobile. It doesn't have Band 12 yet though they've said it will officially get it. It's gotten middling reviews though.

The easy choice to suggest is the LG G4 because it's sold directly by TMobile and it's a decent phone. I have not used it myself. I have the ZTE Axon Pro, that's personally my favorite at the moment.

P.S. This page has a list of all the Band 12 phones available for tmobile, both from tmobile direct and not:

It's easy to find a budget phone directly from tmobile, but they tend to be laggy in everyday use. The ZTE Axon Pro I can tell you is very responsive (after software update) and fast and $300 is probably the cheapest band 12 capable phone I know of right now, that's not a low end budget phone.
