As a fellow owner of the Zelda 3DS XL, I highly recommend that you get the Hori TPU case and some screen protectors to go along with it.

No matter how careful you are, your 3DS is bound to take some degree of damage eventually. This case does an excellent job of protecting it from normal bumps and wear (it won't do much if you drop it, but that hopefully wouldn't happen) while still showing off the design. Screen protectors are just good to have.

An additional note: I also suggest getting some sort of cleaning cloth to put between the two screens when you close the system: the bezel on the touch screen will scratch up the top screen.

Yeah. My girlfriend encountered that problem. Yoshida's signature slightly smeared when she put it in her bag.

Nintendo 3DS XL Duraflexi Protector - Clear by HORI I protect my 3Ds XL and signatures with this, and I highly recommend it.

Alternatively, you can go to a hobby shop, and buy a mat clear coat finish for model painting.

Nintendo isn't the platform to go with if you want to get games on sale. There are exceptions, but generally their games only bump down $10-$20 over time, it's hard to find any good old Nintendo game for under 20 bucks like you often can with other console/PC games. Just for an example, this Fire Emblem DS game came out in 2012 and is still $40 from any retailer.

Your only real hope for buying cheap Nintendo games is eBay or getting lucky at the right pre-owned store.

That's what I use. Nice soft touch finish and can hold 2 games in the back.

Hands haven't cramped even in the 24 hour straight session I had a few weekends ago.

The MHX one is kinda meh, especially for the cost.

The Amazon-exclusive steelbook is still available for $89.99 (cheaper than GS of you have Prime).

I really don't think that Ocarina's 'biggest' fans underrate it. Anyways, here let me pick apart this article I disagree with:

>Ocarina doesn’t need perfect controls or intense boss fights to be fantastic.

I'd say most gamers would call bullshit on this.

>the way Link smiles when he learns a new song

No he actually looks quite disgusted.

>Minor characters like Grog are completely fascinating, and the game’s world feels fleshed out and real.

I would totally argue against this. Ocarina had a couple of neat npc's which attention to detail but attention to detail throughout the whole game was pretty inconsistent and Grog wasn't nearly that facsinating as he doesn't do much. Every other game after Ocarina, ESPECIALLY Majora's Mask, The Wind Waker, and Skyward Sword had significantly more interesting npc's and a real fleshed out world. Ocarina's world does not feel 'real' to me.

>Spectacular games are allowed to be flawed.

"The game can have lots of flaws and be poorly designed in many ares (As mentioned before in the article itself!) but when I have rose-colored nostalgia glasses on, the game is simply spectacular)

>Yes, Ocarina‘s Z-targeting sometimes sucked, and yes, its puzzles weren’t as good as they could have been. That doesn’t mean the game wasn’t fantastic

Okay so this is just terrible writing. You never argue against your own point. And the only puzzles in Ocarina that weren't totally mind-numbing to anyone above the age of 8 had solutions that no one would think of, and are frustrating to play through.

>Some games have no room for missteps, but Ocarina of Time isn’t one of them.

I'm noticing a theme here, which is "Ocarina of Time has a bunch of big flaws but the game is better than all the others anyways". I don't think the writer is holding other games to the same standard as Ocarina of Time, because the games that have no room for missteps should be the spectacular fantastic timeless masterpieces. By saying otherwise, the writer is essentially saying that if a game is popular it doesn't have to be as good as or worked on as hard as games that are less popular.

>When I think about my time with Ocarina, I don’t think about the frustrations of the Water Temple. I think about dancing Gorons and riding Epona for the very first time.

"When I think about Ocarina, I deny that poorly designed parts of it even exist (unless I'm writing an article about the poorly designed points and why that means it's a great game) and replace it with nostalgia."

>If you truly appreciate Ocarina, you have to accept that the game can afford a few flaws.

This is another big no-no in writing. It's like when a manipulative girlfriend says something like, "If you really love me then you'll buy me really expensive things". No, I can appreciate Ocarina, accepting the game's flaws, and still acknowledging that it wasn't as perfect as most people generally make it out to be.

All in all, this article is complete shit. It's victim to bad writing, extreme opinionization even with the nature of the topic, and false logic. I will point out here that I love Ocarina of Time. It has a special place in my heart and I think the game is fantastic and innovative and when I think about parts of it or play through it again memories and nostalgia flood through me, but I think that letting a high personal opinion of the game stop you from being able to judge the game for what it is, or even view the game objectively.

You could probably get by with a 16 or 32 gb card. Maybe even 8. Your son probably won't be doing much downloading of digital games. Unless you want to steer him in that direction, so you don't have to worry about him losing the game cards. If that's the case, spring for 64. Trick the bitch out with all the bells and whistles. But by the time he would get to an age where he would be downloading on his own, the 3DS will have long been phased out.

Go for the HORI screen protectors. They don't leave any residue when you take them off if they need to be replaced.
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Screen-Protective-Filter-Nintendo-NEW/dp/B00RZ7T8TK

Also may want to spring for some kind of 3DS console protection. I went for the HORI duraflexi, but you may be able to find something out there that offers a bit more protection, since your boy is 7 and 7 year olds tend to be rough.
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Duraflexi-Clear-Protector-Nintendo-NEW/dp/B00RZ7TC6Y

Your kids gonna shit himself when he sees this gamer package. Way to go dad!

I am a paraplegic and get the exact same pain with handhelds. Grips have been a lifesaver! I tried skull & co.'s kickstarter grip and a cheap rubber one off Amazon before sticking with Satisfye's Switch grip. I have big hands and it was the only one large enough to comfortably play with. Edit: They JUST launched all new products but I have their OG Switch grip.

I have other branded grips for my N3DS XL and Vita, but forget what they are (I think they're Japanese brands I found on Amazon), and they're comfortable and work great.

I suggest buying a handful off Amazon to try out and then keep the one that works. They're all made slightly differently so you wont really know until you have them in your "grip" :-) .

Good luck!

Edit: I found the exact grips in my Amazon purchase history (all from Amazon and I live in the states).

I struggled a lot trying to play video games when I was first having serious trouble with my hands. I don't know your genre of choice but mine have always been MMOs and turn-based strategy. I agree with /u/SixJointsOfPain that once you're on some sort of DMARD you will likely feel better soon, but until you do here are some of my favorite ways to ease hand stress while gaming with arthritis.

  • Compression gloves. They can help keep swelling at bay (and keep heat in during these wintery months) and ease some of the pain of swollen knuckles.
  • Ergonomic keyboard/mouse/controller. If you play anything on a system they make Monster Hunter for, try searching specifically branded ones like this. People who spend hours at a time hunting monsters on their handhelds are serious about hand comfort, I guess.
  • Breaks to stretch. Not always the easiest if you're playing something fast-paced, but people can be surprisingly considerate if you're like "hold up a sec, medical stuff". I heal a lot in WoW and 99% of players will just let it go at that or after a quick "what's wrong?" "oh I have arthritis in my hands, just needed to stretch. We're good now!" or whatever. You're (presumably?) a grown-up; you do you. ;)
  • Playing easier, slower-paced games. This can suck when all your friends are playing Overwatch but like... The Sims 4 is pretty neat. And Animal Crossing and Pokemon never really get old, do they? :)
  • Find new ways to enjoy the games you love. I personally collect dolls and figures so one of my non-gaming hobbies is posing and photographing my Link figma in all sorts of silly ways and places. Papercraft is also really cool-- and I believe there is software to convert game models straight into papercraft projects.

I hope this was at all helpful and not just a lot of reading for no payoff. :x I also hope you feel better soon. When I quit WoW four years ago I thought I would never be back but I'm literally logged in right now on my healer in the window behind the one I'm typing this comment in. Modern medicine is amazing.
If you want someone understanding to commiserate with on bnet (I think I saw some Overwatch in your post history lol) I'm eiridel#1620. This goes for anyone who reads this comment, but please just let me know who you are when you friend me lmao
u/Lil_Druid · 10 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

First off I'll simply say if you're looking for a game that you can sit down and play for hours on end, avoid the Animal Crossing games(at least the first one and the newest one) unless you're the type of person who enjoys messing around with making clothing designs or just wandering around enjoying the sights.

If you have experience with the AC franchise after the first game, I can't give a good review compared to anything but the first game as I've never played the sequels, but as someone who was really hoping for something very similar to the first, it was more than worth my purchase.

What is there to do?
The game is entirely in "real time" based on your 3DS clock, so if your clock is set to, say, 10PM, when you start up the game, it'll be 10PM in game as well and most of the shops will be closed and many of the villagers asleep(this can be changed a little, more on that later. Some villagers also stay up longer than others but others also may go to bed earlier than others).
Edit Holidays/events also happen every so often. Things ranging from fishing or bug catching contests, to a summer solstice to an april fool's day event and many many more. Some aren't terribly game changing(the solstice, for example, making it just look like it's day time even at midnight and making villagers stay out very late) while others like the catching contests can give you plenty to do during the day it's going on.

Disregarding time restrictions, you can run around and collect fruit to sell, talk to villagers(more on that later also), visit shops to buy clothing, furniture, wallpapers, carpets, etc etc. Over the course of a week or two, so long as you're playing regularly, you'll likely unlock an island that you can visit to do mini games and(if you're so inclined) collect a crap load of bugs/fish to rake in easy bells(the currency in game).

Speaking of bugs and fish, catching them is a major part of the game as well as not only is there a museum to donate them to to eventually reach 100% with it, but they're also a major source of money, especially early game with the "mainland" bugs.

Regarding my earlier comment about being able to change the times shops open, this is because you're the mayor of the town on the first character you create. You'll be allowed to enact ordinances such as making the town a "night owl" town which causes shops to close later and villagers to stay up later, make a "rich town" making things sell for larger amounts, but also making buy prices go higher, and a few others. You'll also be able to create "public work" projects which amount to you building things such as simple light posts, wells and bridges to things like a campsite, a police station and a club, to name a few of them.

One of, if not
the* main draw of the games, though, are the villagers. There's dozens of potential villagers in game and upon making your village you're randomly assigned 4(I think) and can have a maximum number of 9(10 I think with the campsite but that one's temporary). Villagers can move out and be replaced with other random ones so you'll rarely be wanting for variety, though it can lead to some sad times if a favorite moves out unexpectedly. Personality wise there's about 8 or so "types", 4 for each gender, that they can act as, though it may just be me, but it seems very much like each individual one also has their own unique mannerisms to a degree. You can talk to them every day, be given "quests" ranging from picking fruit for them, delivering items for them and going to their house(so nothing too epic or anything). They'll sometimes, if you're on your mayor, also ask you to build certain things for them. There's other things you can do with them, but that should give you a relatively quick overview of them.

Other than the villagers moving in and out, the town also evolves to a degree. After spending certain amounts of bells at certain places or doing other things, the "main street" area which is the main area for shopping will expand it's buildings or add new ones for you to use.

A big time sink for many people is the clothing as well. Not only can you collect various types like shirts, pants, shoes, socks, glasses, helmets, etc etc, but you can also make your own designs for shirts and dresses. On the 3DS they've also included a QR system in which you'll eventually unlock the ability to download QR codes that are all over the net and even upload your own.

The other main draw of the game is the housing system. Upon arriving at the town you'll be given a house that you can pay off the loan for and, if desired expand it several times. You can obviously collect and fill it with furniture but also now customize the outside, from the fence around it, to the mailbox, to the walls and roof and door. A fun system is also the feng shui which can give you better luck with various in game mechanics by putting colored pieces of furniture in the "correct" places in your house. You'll also eventually get to have your house graded each day based on various factors.

Sorry for the long post, but that should basically sum up everything you can expect from the game, for the most part. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions, too!

Verdict: If you enjoy games that are pretty primarily geared towards a more casual "pick up for an hour a day" style, then I'd say definitely go for the game as it's worth the money. Totalbiscuit described it well, in my opinion, in saying that it boils down to basically being a "daily quest", but you don't actually have to do anything each day as the only way in which that harms you is that some things may take longer to build. All in all it's a game about having fun, not challenging yourself or trying to overcome obstacles. You can set your own goals, but nothing in the game is really "forced" on you after the tutorial, and even then you don't have to do the entire thing.

EDIT The game's also on sale for about $5 off on Amazon at the moment. http://www.amazon.com/Animal-Crossing-New-Leaf-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B0053BCML6

Hope I'm not too late, but as someone who enjoys fantasy games and shooters, I'd recommend the following:

  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (a mature soldier-spy type game - thematically similar to Battlefield/Call of Duty)
  • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (b/c he likes Dragon Age)
  • Fire Emblem Awakening (b/c he is interested in Persona Q and League of Legends)
  • Shin Megami Tensei IV (b/c he is interested in Persona Q - Persona and SMT use the same battle system in different storylines/settings)

    ____
    Recommendations for no particular reason

  • Mario Kart 7 - the quintessential 3DS game for all ages, every 3ds should have one.
  • Super Mario 3D Land - difficult at times, but always fun, I always thought "Mario games are for kids" until I played this game.
  • Rune Factory 4 - If he likes RPGs, he'll love this.
  • Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan - Persona Q was modeled after this game, but I'm listing it down here because he may feel more at home in the world of Shin Megami Tensei IV listed above.

    __
PS. I see a lot of people mentioning Pokemon, but if he hasn't shown interest in Pokemon by now he may not like it. It seemed like the perfect game for me but I just couldn't enjoy it half as much as everyone else does.

Just over-payed for this grip from Japan.

I'm in the U.S. but I'd like to have this as I kick back for my first session of Majora's Mask next month. A bit pricey, but at this point I'm just bleeding money, so why stop now?

Note the difference in where the grip attaches to the New 3DS (front corners and one clip in the back) as opposed to the standard 3DS XL grip). The slot on the front won't be blocked, nor will access to the stylus.

Just wanted to let you guys know that if these exist already in Japan, it's probably only a matter of time before they're over here, and for much cheaper.

I use this one. Works great for me. My hands are on the larger end and used to cramp like crazy playing without a grip. They have a slightly rubberized texture to help you grip and conveniently has a cart holder slot for two games, as well as a little kickstand to prop the console up. Highly recommended.

So to recap:

  1. Regular Edition, Sun or Moon (Everywhere)

  2. Dual Pack with 200 Pokeballs (I think I only saw Best Buy, EB Games had it)

  3. Dual Pack with Steelbook (Amazon Exclusive)

  4. Regular Edition with Legendary Figurine (Walmart Exclusive (?): SUN, MOON)

  5. Dual Pack with Starter Pokemon Figurines (Best Buy, London Drugs)

  6. Costco has a promo where you get Super Mario Bros plus a $5 eShop credit. YMMV

    o.O

This. is the case I am talking about. Very happy with it as I wanted something a bit rubberised and not hard plastic. This is still a little firmer than I wanted but it does the trick. I also wanted something clear as I really liked the 3DS XL I got (Gold Zelda edition) so the fact that it was see through was a big plus. I don't know how well it will protect from a drop as it is very form fitting but it protects the finish and offers a little bit better grip. If you have bigger hands get this case!

I can't link the hard shell zipper case that I got as I got it in store and can't find it online but it is your standard hard shell case with a little padding in case you drop it.

Wash hands before playing, don't eat while you play, keep it in a hard pouch/case, use a screen protector, clean using a microfiber cloth, don't do stupid stuff like jam a coin into the circle pad to hatch eggs in pokemon.

For both N3DS and N3DSXL systems

Some of these can also be found from retailers online, like Best Buy and Target. I generally use Best Buy, Amazon, and eBay, but check other retailers just in case.

Case: Looking for a protector that protects your system from scratches? Most people recommend the HORI TPU case. NA currently has one for the XL (LL in Japan), but you'll have to import one for the standard size.

  • HORI TPU case for N3DSXL or sometimes the one from Japan is cheaper.
  • HORI TPU case for N3DS, or just search "New 3DS HORI TPU" and look for the ones without XL/LL in the title.

Looking for a pouch to keep your system from dust or to carry on-the-go and protect them from falls? There's sooo many options you can just search up on Amazon and eBay, not to mention other Japanese import sites.

  • HORI Hard Pouch for N3DSXL is what I went with for my Fire Emblem N3DSXL. Looks plain and I admit I usually go for something different, but when I received it, it screamed good quality. It's black and looks classy, and there's room for 6 cartridges and a stylus. It also fits a system with the HORI TPU on. Alternatively, you can use this for the standard N3DS because it has a strap that will keep it in place.
  • CyberGadget Mint Semi-Hard case for N3DSXL - I originally went for this one. It's fine if you just want to carry around your system, but that's all the room it has. It also had a weird chemical smoky smell that I'm still trying to air out (it's been over 2 weeks now). If the smell ever gets out, I'll use it. Maybe it's just the one I purchased.
  • Trunk Case for N3DS - I have the blue one, and it's decent quality. These trunk cases seem to be in and out of stock though, and prices are unstable. If you can find one for a good price, I'd recommend it.

Screen Protectors: Screens will inevitably get scratched, as careful as anyone can be. If you're someone who cannot stand scratches or want to keep your system in perfect condition, you can't go wrong with screen protectors.

  • HORI Standard Screen Protectors for N3DSXL is what I had on my old N3DSXL. Here's one for the N3DS. Appliance is easy and they don't interfere with the 3D at all.
  • HORI Blue Light Filtering Screen Protectors for N3DSXL and ones for the N3DS - I just wanted to reduce the blue light because I mainly play before I sleep. Research a bit about blue light if you'd like. I like them, they do the same job as the standard ones with the added blue light filtering.

Micro SD card: Can't go wrong with Sandisk, and I purchased the 32GB since that's the highest Nintendo says the system will support. Any higher and you have to format it to FAT32 in your PC so the system will recognize it. Any good brand will be fine though, but I just go with Sandisk all the time.

Stylus: This DSi stylus is so damn comfortable. I never thought it mattered because I just put up with the cramping, but I purchased some items on the Nintendo Online store, so I went for it. It's all I use now. The cheapest shipping is $5 on the store though, so go for it when you're ordering other items with it.

    Customization?
    For N3DS
Coverplates: Amazon.JP if you have a forwarding service like Tenso. I like AmiAmi, but it's hard to catch the plates sometimes. PlayAsia tends to be more pricey, so sometimes you're better off just looking on eBay if your last resort is PlayAsia.

    For N3DSXL and N3DS

Charms: Basically the same as the above. Many options around Etsy, just search what you want up. Up to your discretion. :)

    Overall
Yeah, I'm a HORI fan. Their products have been solid for me, so I have no qualms with them. I just wish more of their products would appear in NA so shipping times would be shorter, but I think the wait times have been worth it anyway.
u/VashTrigun78 · 7 pointsr/JRPG

I experienced heavy strain with my New 3DS - that thing just isn't all that comfortable to hold. I bought a grip like this one and I haven't experienced and discomfort since. I highly recommend getting something like this if you play a lot on your 3DS.

u/ApexKelbi · 7 pointsr/MonsterHunter

This is similar, and costs much less: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013JDH8J0

u/clambert12 · 7 pointsr/3DS

I really like this grip. It's super easy to attach/remove and fits comfortably in my hands. Also it can store two cartridges inside a compartment on the back of it, which is pretty neat.

Edit: My issue was slightly different than OP's. I would get really bad wrist pain while using my 3DS and this alleviated that problem. I'm not sure if it would be helpful for OP's issue, but thought I'd link it since I ended up buying 3 different grips and this was the most comfortable one for me.

u/Zachlombardi27 · 7 pointsr/3dshacks

I think I can do that for ya, honestly. I also have, for the left joystick, little caps that make grip better if that interests you too. Maybe private message me I suppose, get this goin!

Edit: and no purchasing, they're so silly cheap, I got it n the postage etc..

Edit 2: This is the left joystick cover, could hook you up with one of those. I honestly love it. Long gaming sessions are perfect for this seemingly simple and pointless lil' grip.

Edit 3: And this is the c-stick replacement. Someone else linked it above as well, but yeah, the psp-1,000 joystick or whatever. Works really great.

Edit 4: Since I'm really gettin down on all this N3DS speak, I'd like to share this as well. My goodness, it makes gaming 1,000x better. Since the grips are not directly under the 3DS, and they are almost basically on the sides, it makes it feel like a legit, comfortable ass videogame controller! (In the vein of an Xbox or PS4 controller) With how I said the grips are on the sides, it makes it not feel so damn cramped like some of the other N3DS grips can. It's seriously so, SO worth the $15 bucks.

u/ArianrhodSC · 7 pointsr/MonsterHunter

I had that. I tried 3 grips and this one worked best for me. Life changing, I can play for hours on a plane with no discomfort.

Have you tried getting a Powersave for 3DS?

http://www.amazon.com/Action-Replay-Powersaves-Cheat-Device-Nintendo/dp/B00CQ9L1Z6

That would probably reduce your unlock time.

u/2shovel2knight · 7 pointsr/Games

For the 3DS Monster Hunter games, there is this and this. They make 4 simple changes to the control layout:

-Camera control on the shoulder under the left (!) forefinger

-Inventory button accessible by left middle/ring fingers

-Enlarged run button on right shoulder

-Big and chunky, so it's easy to hold for hours upon hours

I have a better, easier time controlling Monster Hunter with this thing than with the new game and a PS4 controller. It takes the one thing everybody used to complain about with the series, the controls, and makes it effortless.

Also, I wish someone made a one-handed PS4 controller for traditional RPG's. There used to be one for PS1, and it was cool.

u/Khirsah01 · 7 pointsr/pokemon

The NDS and 3DS use what's called Resistive Touch Screens, and is able to be used with any hard enough surface to press the two active layers together to register the touch. You can use the back of your fingernail tip as a stylus in a pinch on these types of screens.

Modern smartphones and the Switch use Capacitive Touch Screens that require either the flesh of your finger, or a compatible material to be able to activate the touch sensor for those screens.

https://techexplainer.wordpress.com/2012/04/02/resistive-vs-capacitive-touchscreen/

The differences in the technology show why the styluses look so different. This stylus does a great job of showing off both types of stylus nibs. At the bottom of the picture, the black plastic pointed nib on the right is a stylus type for Resistive screens, and the soft rounded nib on the left is for Capacitive screens as it needs to simulate a finger to work.

As long as there's a small enough point for an accurate reading of where you're poking the screen, covering with microfiber is a great idea if you need to protect your screen. I'd still recommend screen protectors in any situation though.

u/StewofPuppies · 6 pointsr/Games

I thought it was slow selling because it virtually had no games in its library. There was no games to sell the console like Odyssey and BotW did for the Switch or Halo for Xbox. While you guys aren't wrong, the reasons stated aren't necessarily the right reasons. 3DS had a pretty good console design, sure it was weak but I don't think many people complained once the ball got rolling for this line of products and 3DS was a relatively easy piece of hardware (meaning it didn't have too much problems AFAIK unless you frequently dropped it). Games like Fantasy Life, Monster Hunter games, Monster Hunter stories, etc all played beautifully. Mario Kart, Smash, Mario Maker. That was their problem.

Once major IP games started to come out, 3DS started to sell well. I heard Reggie had a lot to do with how they pushed back on that oversight with 3DS by giving a lot of release-date owners free games and lowering the price of the handheld.

>According to Iwata, though, this isn't too surprising: "The current situation resulted from the fact that the delay of developing Nintendo 3DS software and launching online services, like Nintendo eShop, 3D video services and so forth, occurred simultaneously, so we could not meet people's high expectations that they had before its launch, and we did not see momentum after the launch."
>
>However, in spite of the slower sales, Iwata doesn't seem too worried. He thinks sales will pick up once more heavily-anticipated games - like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D - are released, as well as when the Nintendo eShop and 3D video services come online.

From the article you linked there is another reference to which they talk about the reasons for it not doing too well. The fact that it had good initial sales could just mean loyal Nintendo fans or it could also mean that there is genuine interest in the handheld and they just needed to capitalize better. After those IP's came out, 3DS began to do better. 3DS sold like nearly 6 times as much as Wii U did.

Mine is a Cybergadget Circle Pad Cover (slim type). I can close my N3DS XL perfectly with it.

u/the_light_of_dawn · 6 pointsr/3DS

If your hands are cramping up (like mine always have when playing handhelds), you might want to look into a grip. This one in particular has helped me so much with being able to play my N3DS XL for more than 25 minutes or so at any given time.

It seems like you're referring to both the size (hand cramping) and button quality. The buttons have never been an issue for me. I like that they're bigger than the Vita's at least.

As far as sizing goes, it all comes down to personal preference. Some will tell you they prefer the portability of the N3DS, the colored buttons, and the slightly sharper image on the screen. Others will tell you that they prefer the XL's larger size and don't mind the decreased portability or the slightly less sharp resolution. It all boils down to what you're looking for in your 3DS experience, I guess. I'm a N3DS XL man myself.

u/matthew011029 · 6 pointsr/MonsterHunter

I have personally bought and used these ones, they feel just like a controller and are great for the hands.

The Hori Grip is made specifically for monster hunter and is amazing. The second circle pad is on the left side and you control it with your left index finger which takes some getting used to but it allows you to cycle through items, sprint, and move the camera simultaneously which is only possible with that grip.
this thing Literally unplayable without it.

Those cheap Chinese ones are terrible. The two I bought were barely being held together by the dozen screws in it. Cyber gadget makes a pretty decent grip, but it's quite a bit more expensive. I find that it is much more comfortable than the cheaper versions and has some game storage in the back as well. Amazon

As far as cases... If you want a case to hold the 3ds with the grip installed, the NES classic case is awesome. Just trim out the thin strip of foam in the middle and the gripped console drops right in. Even has room for a charger too! Amazon

> ...I'm bummed that the...DLC aspects of the game are gone and I don't get to experience them.

Actually, they're still fairly easy to access. You'll need to extract the savefile from the cartridge, which you can do easily with one of those Action Replay Powersave Editors, and once you have that you just open it in a special DQ9 save editor, and mark the DLC check boxes. That'll give you all the extra quests, inn guests, and exclusive items. Then just put the save file back on the cartridge and play! :D

I've got the blue version of this grip.

I highly recommend it. It makes the 3DS so much more comfortable. Before my hands would cramp after a little bit of time but now I can play for hours with no problems.

The only issue I have is that it makes it harder to fit in a pocket for carrying the 3DS around.

u/segajupiter · 5 pointsr/3DS

I just recently purchased a Cyber Gadget grip and couldn't be happier. I generally play handhelds while lying on a couch or bed, and the grip improves the ergonomics tremendously.

I have adult sized human hands; without the grip I find that my thumbs are recruited to help stabilize the system which becomes very uncomfortable very quickly. With the grip, the palms of my hands and four fingers do all of the stability work leaving my thumbs free and loose for analog stick input and button presses.

u/smokeyjoey8 · 5 pointsr/3DS

Would like to tag on to this to say buying a controller grip and if you're using a N3DSXL, replacing the nub with a PSP 1000 series stick will hugely increase the quality of play. My brother owns a N2DSXL and made the same changes. If ripping out the nub makes you uncomfortable, videos on YouTube are easy to find. I do not regret it one bit, the psp stick is a full upgrade from the shitty nub.

In 2016 I bought a N3DSXL to exclusively play Pokemon and to enter the MH franchise. I tried MHGEN first and the barrier of the controls, and Gen's assumption that you're already an experienced Hunter made me quit before I even killed a Great Maccao.

Advice online suggested MH4U was a better entry point to the series, and it 100% was for me. That motivated me to find ways to make the handheld more comfortable for my giant fucking sausage fingers.

To me, MH4U legitimately feels like a full sized game stuffed into a handheld system. I still found myself fully immersed, even with 3ds graphics, which really fly below the radar when you're occupied with the technical mechanics that make this series so addicting.

u/HohoHere · 4 pointsr/3DS

I have both and a Vita and love them all. I play a game on the Switch, a game on the 3DS and then a game on the Vita...wash, rinse and repeat. I purchased all three systems around when the Switch came out because I decided I wanted to give mobile/handheld gaming a go. The games on the 3DS are cheaper too than brand new games, but they are a ton of fun.

The 3DS library is amazing and will give many, many hours of entertainment to both of you. The Switch has good games right now as well and also gives many hours of entertainment.

If you get a 3DS XL (although I agree that the New 2DS XL looks great since I never turn my 3D on haha), I would recommend grips like these for longer sessions. Happy gaming!

u/Phrickshun · 4 pointsr/MonsterHunter

>Sadly much I love 4U my biggest gripe with it... well, can be simply summed by the fact it's on 3DS and the ungodly bad wrist cramps/aches I've get after a while of playing intensive action games on that tiny boxy console.

If you care enough, Buying a 3DS grip like this one pretty much removes the hand cramps you get from playing on the 3DS for long periods of time. I would know because I dealt with the same issue playing Monster Hunter on the 3DS.

I also preordered the pokemon games, probably always will until they stop deserving my trust. there are not a lot of companies o series that earn that trust thou.

There can be benefits of preordering some times, for example my amazon preorder was for a limited now out of stock item also if the item ever gets a price drop while it's on preorder you get the lowest price available. I've gotten a few games up to 20usd cheaper that way (it may have been a price error but hey).

But I only do it with a few games. I'm not much of a hype guy, I don't even look at trailers, I just wait for the game to come out and see what people think of them.

u/ExistentialTenant · 4 pointsr/patientgamers

The 'entertainment.ie' article is a single opinion -- why listen to them in particular? Everywhere else, people tend to call it 'Action Adventure' (or just adventure more generally). On Zelda Gamepaedia, on Amazon, on Metacritic, and even on IMDB. Even Nintendo calls it an 'Action' game (though they are fluid with their categorization).

Secondly, the 'RPG characteristics' is a broad list of which 99% of games have elements that would fit. Under the first category, Story, it is described as having a plot involving saving the world and has twists and turns. Boy, I wonder what game has that? But really, any genre has a broad list of characteristics of which 99% of games would fit because most genres have a broad amount of things players can do that have been refined and added over years of development. In general, there tends to be a colloquial understanding of these genre terms. For 'RPGs', I wouldn't say OOT have many elements that would make it fit.

Don't get me wrong -- I don't see the problem in calling it an 'RPG'. It ultimately doesn't really matter in the end so long as you enjoy the game. I'm just curious as to why.

Hello! I think you're looking for Animal Crossing: New Leaf or its updated packaging Animal Crossing: New Leaf Welcome amiibo – "Welcome amiibo" is a free downloadable update for the original, so in either case you'll get access to the same game. There are some spin-off titles and some older entries in the main series, but New Leaf is the game AC fans spend most time in.

The game's built-in tutorials are the best way to get started, and you have to play through them to progress anyway so you might as well go through them without spoiling anything by reading too much about it first!

When you get bored or confused or find a particular goal you want to accomplish, you might want to check out this subreddit's FAQ or simply search past posts for advice, but when starting out you'll almost certainly have more fun just wandering around, interacting with animals and objects and discovering things for yourself.

u/Qu1nlan · 4 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Okay then... how about Animal Crossing New Leaf, a used copy of Chronicle, and some of those picks you recommended so highly?

u/ZebraMuffin · 4 pointsr/3DS

That's Canada. I should have been more clear, they don't sell them in the US.

Here's a link to a US Amazon page. They only have third-party sellers offering them, and it has been like that for years in the US.

u/BeastMode253 · 4 pointsr/3DS

While it shouldn't be mandatory, there are a ton of options out there to make it more comfortable. I bought this grip when I first got my 3DS, and use it or a CPP all the time.

u/Kitten_Boogers · 4 pointsr/smashbros
u/_miles_teg_ · 4 pointsr/3DS

Haven't tried that one but I have this: [DreamGEAR Nintendo 3DS XL Comfort Grip] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008XHCLFO/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and it's fantastic. My hands used to get cramped after long periods but this took care of that issue. Added bonus it protects the 3DS too.

u/aflarge · 4 pointsr/smashbros

I had a HUGE problem with the shape of the 3DS, too. While this doesn't make it QUITE as awesome as using a controller, a good grip will effectively do away with the hand cramps. This is the one I got, in case you're interested.

u/RadWalk · 4 pointsr/3DS

I just bought one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008ZXBYJU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It's actually really nice grip and it gets me in a better habit of having my fingers on L and R the whole time.

u/KDaddy463 · 4 pointsr/nintendo

You can use both sticks to move around and shoot during the sky sections, but it doesn't work that way during ground sections.

It's not really something you need unless you're left-handed. The purpose of the CPP in this game is simply to give lefties a circle pad to use.

The controls are a bit strange and your hands might cramp if you don't hold the system right, but you'll adjust and eventually get used to them.

EDIT: Oh and one more thing. You said you have the XL. The standard Circle Pad Pro does NOT work with a 3DS XL. You have to purchase the bigger "Circle Pad Pro XL", specifically made for the system.

It isn't sold in normal stores, but you can buy it from Amazon here

u/foreignfriend25 · 4 pointsr/3DS

Circle pad pro, its this battery powered peripheral for 3ds that allows the player to use an extra stick and two extra shoulder buttons. looks like this

u/Navolas2 · 4 pointsr/MonsterHunter

Which version of 3ds do you have? If you have an original version of the 3ds or 3ds XL I would suggest the claw pad pro I linked to. It puts an additional Circle pad a little below the L button on the system. Gives you have claw feelings and is way more comfortable at the same time.

I honestly have considered buying an OG 3DS again so I can use it with my American release monster hunter games.Though due to time since release they are getting a bit more spendy.... but it is amazing.

edit: Also could try just the normal Circle Pad Pro. 3DS XL OG 3DS

u/NotLokey · 4 pointsr/3DS

Hori clear case & screen protectors.
I also use this circle pad cover, it adds more grip to the circle pad.

u/squirrelyscout · 4 pointsr/3DS

A few different products like these exist, where you place them over the circle pad. You have to be careful to remove it with each use and to not close the system with them on.
You could also completely open up the system and replace the pad with one of your choosing, like this.

Be cautious of using anything sticky, like bandaids or circles of velcro. Some adhesives leave icky residue that's hard to safely remove.

There's really no perfectly safe or easy solution other than pausing your battle and wiping your hand off a lot. :/

u/inquisitive_chemist · 3 pointsr/3DS

I just got mine on thursday as a birthday gift from the wife and love it. I am burning through xenoblade chronicles until sun/moon come out.

That being said, I do have large hands and I bought and should receive these grips tomorrow. https://www.amazon.com/dreamGEAR-Comfort-Grip-your-Old-Nintendo/dp/B008XHCLFO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478617358&sr=8-1&keywords=3ds+xl+grips

I find the right side controls are perfect, but the left side kills my thumb. With the grips that should eliminate that.

u/AgentSoup · 3 pointsr/3DS

Friend of mine suggested the DreamGEAR, and it looks absolutely worthwhile. I can solve the problem of the covered stylus dock by just holding my stylus in my beard. Win-win! :D

u/zJeldie · 3 pointsr/smashbros

I've found that the bulk of these grips helps to reduce cramping by making the 3ds feel more like a controller. I personally am using one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008XHCLFO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

With this case, I've found that the L and R are hard are awkward to use, so my plan is to mod the case to use those triggers I've posted before.

u/foxdear · 3 pointsr/smashbros

u/Tainysi · 3 pointsr/3DS

copy and pasting my old comment. I currently have this one http://www.amazon.com/CYBER-grip-rubber-coating-3DS-LL/dp/B008ZXBYJU/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411403059&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=cybergrip This is an amazing starter grip. The rubber coating is amazing and the texture is awesome, it's also very secure. My only complaint was the first time I held this, I held it like a controller, so both my index fingers were on the shoulder rests thinking I was pressing L or R buttons. To prevent from confusing myself, I put my middle finger onto the rest and my index finger onto the actual L button (i did not do this for my right hand) and thats how I would hold it. Now, I recently stumbled across THIS beauty. http://www.ebay.com/itm/171469999857 I'm waiting for it to come in but it looks absolutely amazing. It looks like the perfect grip for smash and I suggest anyone to buy one as well. PS: It's out of stock atm but if they're out of stock, just message them and they'll relist the item up. Thats what I did. GRAB THESE QUICK, THEY SOLD OUT OF 10 UNDER 2 HOURS

u/Selcouthit · 3 pointsr/3DS

These are still $11.50 with free Amazon Prime shipping. Rubbery texture, great hand hold. The L/R buttons are a bit difficult to get to at first, but you get used to it and I have no problems.

They DO block the stylus hole, but everything else is accessible.

u/Uncanny_Doom · 3 pointsr/3DS

I would say to at least try to get used to the bare bones system first. If it's still not feeling quite comfy then, look into some grips and make sure you get as many opinions as you can. Watch videos if possible, see what it's like in action. Some grips aren't that secure on the 3DS, or may scratch the system.

This is the grip I use. I got it primarily for playing Smash, and I don't use it with every game I play.

u/PoppedCollars · 3 pointsr/3DS

I think this is the one you're referring to. It's pretty great. Basically turns it into a Playstation controller.

u/1roquois · 3 pointsr/smashbros

I have CYBER's 3DS LL grip. It feels good, looks good, and is really comfortable. It's easy to attach / detach and has a little compartment for two additional games. The only thing is blocks is the stylus compartment and that isn't really important anyway.

Unfortunately I can only find one that ships from Japan so you might have to wait a little longer than usual. I highly recommend it otherwise though.

Did you have an original DS/have you played any of those yet? The DS has a ton of great titles that you can play on your 3DS if didn't start there (or even if you did!)

Here's a long list of random games that you might enjoy:

u/Leafgreen27 · 3 pointsr/3DS
u/dr_pelipper · 3 pointsr/3DS

Do you need one? Probably not. It's more down to how much peace of mind you think it'll give you.

I'm usually pretty careful with my devices, but I got a scratch on the top screen from what must have been a grit of something stuck on the microfiber cloth I normally use. The experience made me conscious of how often I wipe down the bottom screen from using the bottom screen with my fingers, and I definitely didn't want to scratch up the bottom one like I did with top screen.

I got the Hori one for N3DS XL, and I like it. It's not noticeable unless you actively look for it, plus it gives me enough peace of mind. Also while I don't plan on doing so, it is removable though you have to do it carefully.

u/Centrioless · 3 pointsr/3DS

This is strictly for new 3ds XL

For body cover, i recommend This gametech soft cover over Hori duraflexi case. the Gametech case has a couple of clips that hook into the lanyard loop holes on the back. If you're annoyed because hori case doesnt really stick to the device, then you're gon love this gametech case. One thing to note is taht the case itself actually has a frost color rather than clear

For the carrying case, I use this Takecase 3ds xl case. It can store up to 8 games in its central compartment. It also has a inner zip storage where you can store a charger and still have room for 5-8 games more. There's a mesh net that holds the 3ds xl on its place. It has everything that I want from a 3ds xl carrying case. There are other alternatives, but they have very snug space, and don't have inner zip storage

u/MzTredecim · 3 pointsr/3DS

For anyone that doesn't want the hassle of installing the Skinomi, the HORI Duraflexi cases are great. Everyone in my house used the previous version for the XL and enjoyed them.
Here is a cheaper alternative on eBay and the same sans extra stylus (styli?).

Also if your don't already have a charger, I suggest USB chargers. I've been using just USB chargers for months now and they are more convenient. Also if you travel alot, there is no issue with power voltages. Official US 3DS chargers will not work overseas.

All current 3DS XL cases should work with the N3DS XL as will screen protectors.

u/CaiserZero · 3 pointsr/MonsterHunter

I'm pretty protective of my 3DS/N3DSes as well. I do use a case along with a Skinomi skin protector, that covers the whole N3DS. And it was inside a padded pouch. But it was clipped on my left side belt. Out of the 5-6 years, since my first 3DS, never has this ever happened to me. Sometimes bad shit just happens.

u/Eugenian64 · 3 pointsr/nintendo

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE.

I just bought the same one (except the original XL one). It has a great feel to it, and you can find ones with great designs on it. It's made of silicone, and is soft and flexible, but it keeps its shape. It doesn't add too much bulk to the device, but it seems protective enough.

10/10 would buy again.

u/RegularWhiteShark · 3 pointsr/3DS

I wouldn't recommend putting stickers on your 3DS. I use this case for mine - it protects the 3DS itself, and you can put stickers on it, no problem. I have a hard travel case for my 3DS, and it still fits in no problem.

Please note that the case i linked is for the New Nintendo 3DS XL. But I highly doubt they don't have similar ones for all the other versions of the 3DS.

I was having a lot of problems with circle pad slipperiness, so I invested in these: Cyber Premium Slidepad Cover. It just sticks to your OEM circle pad with a little bit of double-sided tape. Also five stars.

As a bonus, I'm using the Monster Hunter Cross Hunting Gear grip. It's really outstanding for avoiding Fantasy Life and Kid Icarus Uprising cramps.

I just bought them and they seem to work well for grip. Make sure you put them on CORRECTLY, otherwise they will fall off. I use the one with the dots on my N3DSXL. My circle pad was slippery as well. This is a huge improvement.

u/Mutt999 · 3 pointsr/3DS

I don't have carpal tunnel but with adult hands it's a pita to hold it without any kind of extra grip. This particular brand is generally considered the best and it makes it so much more comfortable to play for longer than a few minutes.

u/SoJexy · 3 pointsr/MonsterHunter

Hey there! Fellow ex-circle pad pro user. I upgraded to the new 3DS XL from my 3DS XL when it dropped here in NA.

To answer your questions:

>how do you think it compares to the new systems' nubs?

To be brutally honest here, I find the CPP way more responsive compared to the system nub. have really huge hands and found that the nub was a bit tad too small for my taste. But it was still usable and definitely capable of handling the camera changes I needed.

> Which do you find more comfortable?

CPP for sure

> Do you think the nicer screen and better load times are worth the upgrade?

I can tell you right now that the increased performance from the more powerful console is a huge benefit and makes the gameplay and everything much, much smoother. I actually perform way better in hunts because of the higher frame rate. In short - yes it was worth the upgrade. You can always buy a controller grip to ease the lost of the CPP extension (if you're like me and had a more comfortable grip using the CPP). I used this grip for my new 3DS XL and it's wonderful. EDIT: Forgot to mention that the added ZL and ZR buttons for hunter arts are a huge plus as well.

u/bohoa · 3 pointsr/3DS

I love the Cyber Gadget 2! People with small hands may find this a bit too big. They have an updated version in the link that's smaller.

u/AariTv · 3 pointsr/MonsterHunter

While there is no Circle Pad pro, what you can do replace it with a PsP1000 Stick. This stick makes the whole 3DS SO MUCH better. It's a completely different and much easier to use. It's also quite easy to do if you already have a PsP1000 stick.
You can also buy this grip for more comfortable holding.

u/impatiensbloom · 3 pointsr/3DS

I presume your son has a New 3DS XL, based on the fact that you linked to a grip for it. Here's your other main option for that:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013JDH8J0/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=1944687442&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00OTEMTD4&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1QZCX1C632FA3JWVTX11

I would normally suggest getting Nerf Armor if your son is particularly young, but the one for the New 3DS XL is getting a lot of bad reviews because it left the right edge of the system exposed to accommodate the old 3DS XL. It's not very protective or comfortable that way.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Yes, with a ton of work, dedication, and actual real-life money spent, and the right 3DS firmware version.

SUPER LONG ANSWER: Yes, with Homebrew (currently not feasibly achievable with the current firmware version), a PowerSaves device, the proper firmware version (reiterating because it is literally impossible to do on some of the more recent ones). Some valuable resources, in a short form, are this 3DS Homebrew guide, this PowerSaves device purchase page, and this encouraging potato. More than likely, if you're running the proper firmware version, you'll only be able to use OoTHax, which uses an exploit with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (cartridge only, sorry). So here's a purchase page for that, too. Both a Nintendo Selects version and a non-Nintendo Selects version will work, as long as it's a cartridge.

And that's just the basics to get your Homebrew working properly. You'll need the Save Manager Homebrew App, which can be downloaded from a link in this reddit thread in order to export the save data from the 3DS to your SD card, and then this beautiful site in order to actually edit your save data. Since you're only going for a backup, though, I'd recommend just saving the files put onto your SD card by Save Manager (something like garden.dat, exhibition.dat, etc.) and tucking them away in a folder somewhere on your computer. After you backup your files on your computer, you are free to delete your town as you wish and start anew. When you want to return to the old town, just backup your current town's files to your computer, and put the old town's files onto your SD card.

And, uh, one more thing, which I'm going to bold and italics because it's extremely important, no matter which route you go for save backing-upping: Nintendo was VERY smart about the way Animal Crossing: New Leaf deals with save data, and because of this, every single save has it's own unique key. If, for some reason, the game is expecting a key for one save (your most recent one, let's just say) and it gets a key for a different save (a random example being someone else's saves), the game will delete all the data, and wipe the keys, making it only possible to restart ALL over without any way of recovering or restoring from any prior backups. The site I linked you to has a way to make sure that any save put through it can sync up with the current save key, and the Save Manager Homebrew app does, to my best understanding of many uses of it, automatically sync the keys up. I think. I've never really had any problems, and I'm telling you almost 100% exactly how I do it, so you probably won't have any problems either.

(coughs) Did I go a little bit too far there? Nevertheless, everything you need to do is contained within this post.

With the inevitable influx of new people come October 3rd, and especially with the release of the Smash 3DS XL, it might be time to update the FAQ's Case/Battery Pack/Grip thread (there are only 4 parent comments, and all appear to reference the original 3DS)

What are the best clear cases and grips for the 3DS XL?

Based on the little research I've done, the clear Duraflexi protector seems to be the best clear case for the 3DS XL. It protects from scratches, not impact and is not perfectly clear but is probably as good as it gets. Other cases have been said to scratch the 3DS.

u/Votius · 3 pointsr/3DS

Hori TPU case for sure, they are great and wont scratch up the 3ds like other cases. This is the hori tpu case i have, the previously linked case is a harder tpu plastic.

skins you can get lots of places, depends on what you like. I have the zelda 3ds XL and it looks great through the clear hori tpu case, decals/ skins also come though great.

as for flash carts on the 3ds, read this thread from this subreddit

You can get them from Amazon.com - this version will definitely work with X/Y. I'm not sure whether the non-Pro version works - I heard from someone that it's only the packaging that's different, but I'm not sure, and for only a couple of dollars cheaper I wouldn't risk it. I haven't seen them cheaper than the $20 Amazon price, but then I'm not from the US and I didn't really shop around when I got mine anyway.

u/wilsonec · 3 pointsr/3dshacks

You can install OoTHax with an Action Replay PowerSaves so if you're really stuck you can grab one of those. They're like $18 on Amazon

Here's the guide

u/carefree_dude · 3 pointsr/fireemblem

It's not a full on action replay; it's a save editor.

Basically you buy this:
http://www.amazon.com/Action-Replay-PowerSaves-Pro-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B00IVJ1M7M

you connect it to your PC, and then plug your game into it. You can back up saves too.

u/Sages · 3 pointsr/pokemon

I know people don't like cheat devices, but another use of the 3DS Powersaves is the ability to back-up save data.

I'm not sure if it will backup and reload successfully since it's corrupt now, but you can create backups in for future play sessions.

u/theJexican18 · 3 pointsr/TruePokemon

Powersaves is the software, action replay is the physical device. The one I have is 17 bucks on Amazon right now, which is where I got mine.

And different people have different motivations, but I prefer to breed my personal competitive pokemon legitimately. Also, getting all EM on a pokemon is a pain and hidden abilities cannot be conferred via powersaves. So while it is true you can edit IVs, pokeball, EVs, etc. its just more fun for me to do it the old fashioned way.

u/robotortoise · 3 pointsr/fireemblem

No, I mean I used this to get homebrew on my 3DS.

I didn't modify the FE save at all. I simply deleted the head models.

u/Slime_Monster · 3 pointsr/MonsterHunter

I got one of these. It's a CPP made by Hori that moves the second pad to your left pointer finger. It's similar to the claw, but I like this even better.

u/Buey · 3 pointsr/MonsterHunter

Get this:

http://www.amazon.com/3DS-Monster-Hunter-Extended-slide-Nintendo/dp/B00LVRXS8C

The camera stick is on the top left instead of the right, so you can move, move camera, and attack at the same time. Similar to clawing with the PSP games.

u/alphalightningbolt · 3 pointsr/3DS

I use this one which has been great. It has a nice soft touch coating, and room in the back to hold two more game carts. I did buy mine in 2015 and only spent 15-20 bucks on it, not the 40 they are charging right now.

For regular New 3DS, there's this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OTEMTD4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_Jqvryb5YEWMC1

I can't tell you if it's good or not but other people say it's good. Maybe shop around for the same product and you may get it cheaper.

u/toodlebutts · 3 pointsr/3DS

The link provided there isn't a grip, it's a Circle Pad Pro for the original 3DS. You already have a C-Stick on the New 3DS, so it's pointless even if it did fit.

Either https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WU8EEAC/ (which I bought) or https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OTEMTD4/ are considered the best ones. There are pros and cons to each.

The first one doesn't have a cartridge slot open to pull your carts in and out, meaning you have to take the grip off to change physical cartridge games. However, it's more comfortable to access the triggers than the second one.

The second one is generally the more popular one despite being more expensive. There's room to carry two extra games in the back stand, and isn't as hard to take off as the first grip. However, the positions of the "fake triggers" can be confusing and uncomfortable for when you do actually want to use the 3DS triggers.

  • Interests - Journals and pens (since I write a lot,) coloring books (stress reliever!) board games, video games, nail polish, loose leaf tea, figurine collecting!
  • Simple pleasures - I live in Arizona, so my perfect summer day is when the monsoons hit. To wake up to a cloudy day only for rain to burst and that sweet petrichor smell fills the air. To hear the sound of rain as we drop twenty degrees in an hour, and best of all, to have the day off to sit in my living and relax with my dog while I do some reading and just catch up on myself and my thoughts :)
  • Well, two things from my wishlist would be awesome for a rainy day. Either this if I'm alone since I can play that on my 3DS for hours at a time, or this if I have friends over, since I can set up a rather dark setting with the sound of rain and thunder (and if we're lucky, the power goes out :P)

u/AetherPrismriv · 2 pointsr/SKY3DS

Good luck with that. You're asking someone to never play online again on a original game that they bought with money.

A powersaves costs £12. Buy one and extract your own private header. You can never be sure if someone will play the private header game again. If they do, both parties get banned.

u/Skore_Smogon · 2 pointsr/SVExchange

You can use retail carts as well but you require a piece of 3rd party hardware - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Datel-Action-Replay-Power-Nintendo/dp/B00CQ9L1Z6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394373293&sr=8-1&keywords=powersaves+3ds

This allows you to extract, back-up and restore your save files and it's these extracted Save Files that KeySav can read to determine SVs for you and your eggs.

u/Kinnikufan · 2 pointsr/PokemonPlaza

[Here] (http://www.amazon.com/Action-Replay-Powersaves-Cheat-Device-Nintendo/dp/B00CQ9L1Z6)

Powersave is a cheating device that allows you to backup your games on a computer with a handy little 3DS cartridge adaptor. It also has a bunch of codes loaded into the program that goes with it that allows you to modify pokemon (make them shiny, change IVs, change the ball they were caught in, etc.). I payed about $20 on Amazon for mine. I know others got theirs in Game Stop stores. It's all explained pretty well on the little note paper that comes with the product.

u/iadrummer · 2 pointsr/pokemon

This one on amazon seems to have some eu flags on the packaging. Other than that it might be on the label. The powersaves site shows a distinct difference on what each can do, usually no difference but eu seems to get codes first and then the us a few weeks later.

I was always the same way with handhelds but I decided to take the dive after getting a Zelda XL. Picked one of these up: www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-XL-Duraflexi-Protector-Clear/dp/B00GX330XW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411183683&sr=8-1&keywords=tpu+3ds. I got used to it very quick and I now prefer it because the amount of bulk it adds actually makes the XL more comfortable in my hands.

u/joosen · 2 pointsr/3DS

Since I have a pretty decal, I use this to protect and show it off. I always have it in my hand, like the girls who hold their clutch purse thingy.

If I'm in a Kingdom Hearts or Monster Hunter mode, I just remove the bottom part of the protector, and snap on my CPP and continue my day

u/Hedzx · 2 pointsr/3DS

I recommend this: http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-3DS-XL-Duraflexi-Protector-Clear/dp/B00GX330XW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1414888273&sr=8-2&keywords=hori+3ds

Since you have a special edition you don't want it to get scratched! Also get some screen protectors, I think Hori makes some. 3DS screens tend to scratch themselves (even though supposedly the problem is fixed, don't risk it, trust me.)

As for other accesories, if you find that the XL is too awkward to hold on certain games (though you might grow used to it like I did) try getting one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plastic-Hand-Grip-Holder-Gaming-Case-Handle-Stand-for-3DS-XL-Black-/190970632021?pt=US_Video_Game_Cases_Bags&hash=item2c76bc9755

They're pretty cheap and sometimes can be finicky to take off (use a card to push up the tabs, I learned this the hard way haha), other than that they are amazing for making games comfy. Other things include a club nintendo game case off ebay (or if club nintendo restocks) like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Club-Nintendo-DS-3DS-Card-Cartridge-Case-Holder-18-Limited-game-New-/161467848495?pt=US_Video_Game_Cases_Bags&hash=item25983bd72f

or one of the other ones.

u/CourtingEvil · 2 pointsr/calvinandhobbes

I was referring to getting a clear, protective cover for your 3DS. You can still see the awesome vinyl AND it won't get all scratched up!

u/Stereosexual · 2 pointsr/3DS

I'd get both. My set up is the clear duraflexi and the universal pull and go folio

u/pikachuuuuu · 2 pointsr/3DS

Do you want like a carrying case or one that actually snaps onto the 3DS to protect it?

For the former, I have this and it works really well. For the latter, most people recommend the clear Hori case.

I used this generic hard plastic case for a long time and really liked it. They come in a variety of colours too if you do some searching. It says "rubberized" but it's not rubber at all, just slightly transparent hard plastic. I recently switched to this one (also available in a variety of colours) and it looks really nice, but it makes the WiFi act funny if I'm too far from the router.

u/BlueBlurDown · 2 pointsr/3DS

Interesting, that glossy feature is what made me think it would be far worse than my Pikachu. Since my Pikachu was fine naked, that would mean I should fair well with my MM naked.

I have a Hori case for the N3DSXL, but I'm not a big fan. I can't use the charging dock or a proper sleeve. It's pretty much the case and that's it. I much prefer a proper sleeve like Waterfield.

u/KalN7 · 2 pointsr/3DS

Got the Yoshi cleaning cloth as a reward from club.nintendo.com. I forgot how many coins it costs and it's currently not in stock. You can snag one off of Ebay though or just wait 'til they restock it.

u/thedoctorwaffle · 2 pointsr/achacking

> The first one that really caught my eye was one I saw on YouTube. The old New Leaf Ram editor. But it says it's only compatible with versions up to 9.5.0-22. The other method to use NLSE requires using Homebrew. And that's where I'm getting lost.

I'm a little confused as to what you mean here. But to answer your question generally, no, there is currently no way to hack ACNL without homebrew on your firmware.

> And if it is then how exactly does using the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time way actually work?

You'll need to get powersaves in order to use oothax. However, browserhax should also work on your firmware and would be a cost-free alternative if you don't already own powersaves and OoT3d. There are plenty of guides online, and if you need help, look at /r/3dshacks if you haven't already.

> Also as soon as I'm done hacking and put my new save file onto my SD can I delete the files for Homebrew off? Or do I need to keep them to keep the game running right?

You can uninstall homebrew fine, but if you plan to make more than one edit to your save then there isn't really a point.

u/Too_many_pets · 2 pointsr/SharedACTown

It's a cheat device that hooks to a computer by USB. If I put the Animal Crossing cartridge in and open the software, I can back up the game on the computer, so I can have unlimited numbers of saved versions of the game. The device also has some poorly executed item downloads (I had to reset Narnia because I tried to download the King Tut mask, and it got stuck in inventory forever, so I stopped experimenting).

For Narnia, I have a weedy version for letting people weed, a rare item version, which has all the unorderable items and hybrids, and a version for my daughter's best friend, who sometimes likes to play and wants to make sure that the same villagers are always there. If someone visits and weeds, I can just hook the cartridge back up the computer and restore the weeds. Or, if someone takes a bunch of items, I can just restore the version with the rare items. So, if someone steals anything from Ennuia, I can just bring over items then restore Narnia.

Just FYI, a guy was doing adoptions on AdoptMyVillager with a powersaves. He had TT'd every single villager in the game into boxes and saved all the versions so that he could give away any villager.

u/Sorten · 2 pointsr/Pokemongiveaway
  1. The powersaves works directly with the cartridge, so if your copy of pokemon would work with a 3DS, it should work with powersaves. (Don't trust me 100%, since I don't own a 2ds! But I can't see how the 2DS would interfere with the 3DS functionality.)
  2. I got this one. http://www.gamestop.com/nintendo-3ds/accessories/3ds-action-replay-powersaves-pro/113851 and here is an amazon link of what I think is the same thing http://www.amazon.com/Action-Replay-PowerSaves-Pro-Nintendo-3DS/dp/B00IVJ1M7M

u/Zaccea · 2 pointsr/AnimalCrossing

I really want to recommend an Action Replay, because they have a save file backup feature! However, I only have a digital copy of ACNL so I can't promise that it will work with the "Welcome amiibo" version of the game. Here's a link to it anyways and hopefully somebody else can chime in with their experience.

u/Wherearemylegs · 2 pointsr/3dshacks

Add homebrew to you console - you need this power saves tool to inject the save. It costs $21 and that will allow to do some homebrew but not all.

Follow the ntrboot guide to buy and install CFW which will allow you to do everything. It costs between $10 and $24 depending on the cart you buy but it's worth much, much more than OoT and just a homebrew entrypoint.

Yeah, that's the thing - I already have the basic 3DS XL and other games for it, so justifying the expense of a newer unit is a little rough. Only other game that would drive me to pick up the new hardware would be a copy of Xenoblade Chronicles, since it's only compatible with the new hardware. I might consider going for a New 2DS XL, seeing as how it's about $50 cheaper, but even then it's a bit of a reach for just two games. I think I'm probably going to pull the trigger (no pun intended) on the Hori grip that's designed for the game and fits my older unit, along with a copy of 4U.

Yeah, as far as I can tell I bought this exact one and it is EXCELLENT and I can't use my N3DS without it any more. https://www.amazon.com/CYBER-x30FB-x30E9-x30D0-x30FC-New/dp/B00OTEMTD4
It has this rubber-like matte finish and it kinda holds like a PS4 controller. Only complaint is that it doesn't do anything to address the shoulder buttons- they aren't covered by the grip so they're still tiny and don't have enough give for me. But that's a gripe with Nintendo's design, not theirs. For that reason though, I'm thinking of switching to a Hori grip. Those have these chunky shoulder button overlays.
Grips for regular size New 3DSes are kind of hard to find because in the US you can't even buy that console unless it's a special edition (I got the pokemon 20th anniversary bundle with Red and Blue on VC pre-installed). So of course the one I have is from Japan, but still sold on Amazon's US storefront. Came in a cool looking Japanese mail bubble-envelope.

Long term. I use it for Pokémon and Fire Emblem. Link

u/ninjapepes · 2 pointsr/3DS

I have the same 3DS but currently have no grips for it. This CYBER one is 25 dollars but I've heard great things about it. I don't personally own it but have been thinking about getting it for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate as it would just make everything more comfortable. However, the system itself works just fine and is way more comfortable than the standard o3DS with its boxy design poking into your palms. The way the N3DS is rounded out helps a lot with playing for extended periods of time. I do have small hands though.

Ocarina of Time you can get for around $30

Both games are definitely well worth it because they are EXCELLENT.

This should give you some perspective. The cheapest one listed on Amazon is about the original MSRP for just the cartridge.

Not all copies that GS sells have the original packaging, but some do. My store had 3 copies all with the original packaging and one with just the cartridge.

Simply put, it's a fair price on the open market considering that sealed copies of that game are far less common and only becoming more rare by the day.

I have been dying for Animal Crossing. Everyone I know how has a 3DS has it and talks about visiting neighborhoods, designing things and fishing and farming and all the things ! The game looks too freakin' cute. I need it in my life.

My favorite game is... (gonna answer this) probably Halo: Combat Evolved or Viva Pinata, lol. Halo was the very first game I ever really played and my best gaming memories are of me and friends crowded around the TV playing that came split-screen or co-op. And Viva Pinata is just an awesome game. It's so involved and intricate with all the things you can do in it, yet so relaxing to just sit back, chill and enjoy.

Edit: New is preferred for this one.

u/BatmanHimself · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Can't decide, so here are my options! Any of those will be great!

  • PS3: I'd like little big planet 2. I have a young cousin who sometimes comes over and likes to play with me, but I only have "adult" games, so we have to play the demo over and over until she's tired(a.k.a. never).

  • 3DS: Animal Crossing! I keep everyone saying how cool it is, but the only game I got is pokémon.

  • And last but not least... I've been dying to get the Borderlands 2 season pass! I have the physical media for ps3 but Brazilian banks blocked PSN purchases, so my option is the digital code from Amazon. I can't add it to my wishlist because it's a digital code, but there's it ^^^wink ^^^wink

And my favorite game is... good ol' Shadow of the Colussus! I used to play it like there was no tomorrow on my ps2

That's a nice contest OP, thanks for doing it!

Probably a hotel or my great aunts!

I would likely take a 3DSXL to play Pokemon, Monster Hunter 3, and Animal Crossing New Leaf to keep me entertained while I'm not exploring haha. Or I'd take a skateboard to learn to skate with haha. There's some sweet parks around there.

Probably my dad or someone else I know.

This is how I think of it. I buy most of my games retail so that I can sell / gift them away when i beat them, but any game that I think I will never want to sell, like Animal Crossing or Pokemon, Ill buy that on the e-shop.

If you really must have retail, there is always Amazon

We are RAOA. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

Ok, that is cool, how did this implant happen? Was it a medical thing or a did you just have it done for the awesomeness of it? Nevermind, I scrolled down and read your explanation that you posted to someone else's question. How do I get this done myself? I would have to say that that is definitely something I would answer in response to your question.

But as far as more unlikely super powers go, I would like to have the power to communicate with animals. As if we were speaking (or telepathically thinking) english to each other. It could come in handy in many ways. Including learning secrets about other humans because how often do you think of hiding your secrets from your pets or wild animals? And it would have a nice Dr. Doolittle effect and make it really easy to become a veterinarian!

This game would be fun to have, it's playing a game where I would have that power, lol.

It sounds like it is going to be a really fun game and if I got it, it would keep me busy all summer break because I would play it 24/7. Which my family would like since I usually am bored since all my friends ditched me

u/mejjos · 2 pointsr/3DS

$24.57 on Amazon. You can try to price match.

u/mittortz · 2 pointsr/3DS

Normally I would agree, but I really feel like the only person who doesn't enjoy this game. It's like I'm missing something critical in how I'm playing it or something. Maybe it's not for me though. I just don't want to think I wasted $35. But I'm also one of those that gave WoW a decent shot on a couple occasions and never enjoyed it much either, much less get addicted to it.

edit: Look at the reviews on Amazon. There are two 1-star reviews, and I'm pretty sure they're trolling. I don't think I've ever seen a game with more universal appeal. I'm missing something.

u/whiterabbit108 · 2 pointsr/pokemon

I hadn't played since gen 2 and jumped back into it by buying myself a 3DS XL and pokemon X. The amount of new pokemon was a bit overwhelming but I just went through the in game stuff for fun and used pokemon I liked. I saved all of the other stuff (breeding, completing the national dex, etc) for post game.

As for what type of DS you should get, you have 3 options. A regular sized 3DS , a 3DS XL or a 2DS . Now I wanted to keep things as cheap as I could, but I also did not like the look of the 2ds... But the 2ds functions exactly the same as the 3DS just lacking 3D. A 2 DS is the cheapest option if you don't mind the set up of it. The clam shell design of the 3ds/3ds xl were a must for me even though I knew I wouldn't really use the 3d, so that left me to choose between the two. I decided to go for the 3DS XL because it was only about 20 bucks (maybe 30) more than the regular 3DS and I preferred the larger screen and the overall feel of the XL. So while I was looking on spending as little as possible I ended up buying the most expensive option but I am very happy with it :) You could always try to buy a used 3DS or 3DS XL.

u/aidotato5 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Dude, just because some modern controllers are stupid doesn't mean that all of the modern controllers and games are "clunky" and "impractical".

Look at the fucking Nintendo 3DS!

Modern design, plays like a SNES controller with a circle pad thing and a touch screen.

Nothing is clunky about it, yet it is modern and new.

Another example of a new design that is functional: the Wii U Gamepad.

It's got a touchscreen, and normal controller buttons.

Want more? PS4. It's just like the PS3 controller but it has a touch pad and a light bar.

See? Nothing about any of these are clunky.

TL;DR: Modern controls aren't "Waggle Wiimote to Pay Respects"

u/xeronut · 2 pointsr/emulation

These screen protectors and this hand grip work reasonably well as replacement accessories, as the only one made for the GPD XD (that I've found) is the soft case (which is pretty nice). They are not perfect fits, but get the job done.

Also, if you use your HDMI-out (mini-HDMI, not micro-HDMI) you'll want to power the device down, then plug in the cables, then power it back up or you'll have sync issues. You can also close the device while streaming video or games - it won't go to sleep but will turn the device's screen off.

Finally, the apps loaded on the system are all free versions of stuff on Google Play and the preloaded ROM/ISO selection leaves a bit to be desired but is a nice bonus. Anything more powerful than a Dreamcast isn't viable (and even that has performance issues on some titles). Pretty much every Android game I've thrown at it runs well too.

-edit- One last thing - there is no Bluetooth functionality, so have a microUSB adapter (and maybe 4-port hub) handy if you plan to do any multiplayer.

u/oloboloboo · 2 pointsr/3DS

I felt even the 3DS-XL that we bought was a little uncomfortable for my large hands. I like being able to carry the game system in my pocket, but I'm thinking about trying one of these Amazon Link- to Comfort Grip by Dreamgear.
Anyone ever tried this?

u/civanov · 2 pointsr/MonsterHunter

I have these and I love them, perfect for large hands. Havent had a cramp since I bought them, well over 500 hours of games with them.

u/offensivejoke69 · 2 pointsr/smashbros

u/sexi_squidward · 2 pointsr/3DS

I feel like I have to do that with mine. I bought an over sized case for my 3DSXL.

http://www.amazon.com/dreamGEAR-Nintendo-3DS-XL-Comfort-Grip/dp/B008XHCLFO

It's a great case. I pulled it out at PAX East and my friends thought I was carrying around an N-gage. It looks hilariously too big to carry around but it's comfortable!

u/greedyiguana · 2 pointsr/smashbros

I actually have gone through three.

first I got the dreamgear and holding that one worked really well but i didn't like the material so much and it kept slipping off parts of the 3ds. plus it's also geared towards protection which I'm not too worried about so I returned that one

then I tried the cyber one which honestly felt the best overall to hold. I have pretty big hands and it just fit perfectly like an actual controller. But, for me at least the shoulder buttons were really hard to get to. The way my hands fit onto it, my fingers didn't rest on the shoulder buttons naturally, and trying to move them in the heat of the moment wasn't really working out.

so I returned that one, and picked up this one. I actually just got it today so I haven't gotten to try it out yet, but I've heard good things about it, and it seems like the best of both so here's hoping

u/Turkin4tor · 2 pointsr/smashbros

As a guy with large hands, probably the best purchase I've ever made was this: http://www.amazon.com/dreamGEAR-Nintendo-3DS-XL-Comfort-Grip/dp/B008XHCLFO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422163206&sr=8-2&keywords=3ds+grip

I've purchased both of these products, and my favorite would have to be the 2nd link. However, I have a white version of it that i found on Ebay. The biggest flaw with it would be that you have no access to the Stylus. The first case however is a nice holding case also and you'll have access to everything, but i was just never a big fan of Silicon materials.

u/NinjaDucky9 · 2 pointsr/3DS

I use the bottom of this case when I know I'm going to be playing a while. It makes my 3DS XL much more comfortable to hold for long periods of time. It is a bit bulky on the bottom for the hand grips though. It's relatively easy to take on and off if needed as well.

http://www.amazon.com/dreamGEAR-Nintendo-3DS-XL-Comfort-Grip/dp/B008XHCLFO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420079948&sr=8-1&keywords=dreamgear+comfort+grip+3ds+xl

u/adremeaux · 2 pointsr/MonsterHunter

I'm using the old 3DS XL grip, but you'll need to carefully cut some holes in the top so it doesn't press the z buttons. Beyond that, I mean, it covers all the main buttons/lights on the body but you don't actually need any of those if all you are doing is playing MH.

u/blamethedogs · 2 pointsr/FantasyLife3ds

u/sashafiero · 2 pointsr/AnimalCrossing

I'm loving it. My hands were starting to hurt after playing a lot. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B008XHCLFO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is the one I have, although there's something different with the one the top reviewer has; mine does have a game card slot cut out at the back, but the reviewer had to cut one out, but they cut it on the front left? This is supposed to be for the "old" 3DS XL, not the new one. It's easy to pull the case off on the right side to get to the sd card, too. It has helped my hands a bunch. And then I dropped it, and realized it was a good idea for that, too. :D The case has made it crazy bulky for carrying around in my purse, but I think it's worth the trouble.

Sorry, I meant to link you once I got on a computer.

I use this one ( I bought it on Amazon for ~$20 but the price has since skyrocketed. I'm sure other sites also sell this).

It definitely adds bulk and weight, but the grip/handle of it far outweighs the cons. Whenever I need to travel with my 3DS I just take it off.

u/Ti3go · 2 pointsr/3DS

Also the comfort grip and the cyber grip are things I heard good things about. The last one might be Xl only btw...
Edit: Just found the hand grip as well, which seems to be a regular sized 3ds grip.
Edit 2: The Circle Pad Pro is the only thing I have expiernce with. It's great, but a little bulky. When you're lying in bed playing MH3U it'll get heavy eventually. But still, I'd recommend it.

u/BronyMaster1469 · 2 pointsr/3DS

I heard that the rubber gets thin over time and is kinda squishy. I bought this one and it is amazing. Feels exactly like a controller, but is pretty much impossible to carry in your pocket while you are using it.

u/rittzler · 2 pointsr/smashbros

Yeah, having a good grip for your 3ds can really help cramping issues. If you need one for the XL, I reccomend this: http://www.amazon.com/CYBER-grip-rubber-coating-3DS-LL/dp/B008ZXBYJU

I've been using it for months, it's great! Though the price seems to have gone up a bit since I last saw it. You may wanna look around and see if it's a little cheaper anywhere else(just search for "cyber grip 3ds")

Aside from this, I don't know what else you should do. I hope you find a way to to play comfortably!

u/tophmcmasterson · 2 pointsr/smashbros

I HIGHLY recommend getting this grip http://www.amazon.com/CYBER-grip-rubber-coating-3DS-LL/dp/B008ZXBYJU/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1411297699&sr=1-1&keywords=3ds+xl+grip+cyber . I live in Japan so it was only about 10 bucks here, but it's a night and day different, just feels like holding a game controller. Was getting bad hand cramps after about 20 minutes on the demo, picked that up with the full game and I can play comfortably as long as I like. Feels really sturdy, uncomplicated, takes all of 5 seconds to "install".

u/andysaurus_rex · 2 pointsr/3DS

I don't have a ruler, but my hands are about 1 inch loner than the 3DS XL is long. The 3DS XL is 6.3 inches, so my hand is about 7.3 inches. My Palm size is the width of the 3DS XL, so my palm is about 3.7 inches wide.

None of this really matters in my opinion, because neither of them are comfortable. I tried the 3DS in a store, got cramps. I bought the XL, got cramps. It wasn't until I got a controller style grip for the system that I am able to play it comfortably. My suggestion is that you try them both in stores, see which one is better for you. If they're both bad, get a grip like this. I know there is one out for the N3DS LL now, I'm not sure about the standard size. Other companies make good ones too, but the one I linked is the one I have and trust and it works really really well.

u/VorpalSquirl · 2 pointsr/MonsterHunter

Ok so....I think all of you people who turn it off accidentally are goobers. I don't even see how it's possible to hold the thing this way. THAT BEING SAID. My friend has little tiny baby hands so I got her this http://www.amazon.com/CYBER-grip-rubber-coating-3DS-LL/dp/B008ZXBYJU and she has not had the problem sense. Good luck, god speed, kill dem damn monsters.

u/SpaceNacho · 2 pointsr/nintendo

I bought this one. It's worked pretty well for me so far. Only thing is I accidentally bent the bottom tab and it snapped off but as long as you don't force it your fine.

u/TheDoktorIsIn · 2 pointsr/3DS

Honestly it feels great but getting it off has thus far been impossible. Dreamgear makes a good one but I think the best one similar to this is this one. The dreamgear one is more like an overall case, and some people say they have to cut the flaps near the l and r buttons. I consider myself a savvy consumer so maybe I just chose poorly here or got a defective one, I don't know.

u/nova2wl · 2 pointsr/3DS

Yeah I do like it and it is definitely better than no grip but I prefer this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008ZXBYJU/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1412205446&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40

The one with the triggers seems kinda junky whereas the Amazon is actually very solid.l but doesn't have the triggers.

I wish I could combine the two.

u/Jinnlyss · 2 pointsr/functionalprint

Maybe it's against the spirit of this sub but there's a decent grip available for the 3DS XL https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008ZXBYJU/ref=s9_dcacsd_dcoop_bw_c_x_2_w. It's not perfect but good enough that I haven't feelt the need to design one myself.

u/PantsAreForPosers · 2 pointsr/pokemon

I've only ever used an XL and I highly recommend it. Especially with these grips.

EDIT: I have big-ish hands and those grips have stopped hand cramps for me. If you get craps in your hands from playing for any length of time... those are the answer. It is also convenient as you can carry two games in the grip.

Edit: I can't find the exact buyer I got mine from but this link shows multiple ones for about 25 bucks and free shipping, you just have to pick one.

I just managed to snag one on Walmart. Looks like they're having "pre-orders" ship to store. I think they're releasing them one by one because it went OOS 2 times within 10-15 min just now. I will try to PM to Amazon Prime Phoenix right now. I would advise keep refreshing right now!

UPDATE 7:31 PST: I don't live in Phoenix and I was able to get a price reduction on my Walmart order! Here's the chat transcript for reference. There was some slight confusion in the middle of the convo on the CSR's part.

HORI Screen Protector for New 3DS XL

u/Drewproject86 · 2 pointsr/3DS

I'm planning on ordering it tomorrow when I get paid.
Along with the "New" 3ds xl screen protector preorder here,
The clear case preorder here,
and a 32gb microsd card here :3

Getting all prepped for my MMN3DS too man haha!

u/swervingmoss · 2 pointsr/3DS

if you have an XL

Honestly thought you were being sarcastic at first lol. But yeah if you use it an excessive amount like Pokémon Ranger where you had to furiously draw circles around the bottom screen you can mess it up. I've had the O3DS since launch as well as the Pokémon edition N3DS, crystal blue 2DS, gold Zelda 3DSXL and the black N3DSXL and those screens are in mint condition since the stylus isn't used as much anymore

u/Yiano · 2 pointsr/3DS

ALWAYS go for the Hori ones now for all my potables. I used to buy cheap no-name ones but decided to pay the extra one time and I'll never go back.

Fit perfectly, it's very easy to apply them bubble-free because of a smart design and the overall quality is great. They're worth the premium price.

https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Screen-Protective-Filter-Nintendo-NEW/dp/B00RZ7T8TK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479020292&sr=8-1&keywords=hori+3ds+xl

Removing them is not easy, but that is the case for all screen protectors.

u/pirulin22 · 2 pointsr/3DS

Get the HORI screen protectors, they are sold out on amazon but they will be back on stock on March 10, they are worth every penny, easy to apply and if I am not mistaken, they help preserve the anti reflective on the top screen.

u/SenordrummeR2 · 2 pointsr/nintendo

I have the Fire Emblem: Fates N3DSXL, and I think it's beautiful. I had the same concerns as you, so I purchased the Hori TPU case for it. I've been using it since launch, and it's still in perfect condition. I carry it with me everywhere in my laptop bag, it's been on countless flights and business trips, and the TPU case keeps it pristine. The only exposed point while in sleep mode is the hinge, but that's remained in near mint condition. My only complaint with it is the TPU isn't colorless, so it changes my console from white to off-white, but that's a minor complaint. I'd recommend going this route before you buy a second 3ds.

u/nermal543 · 2 pointsr/3DS

get one of the clear cases officially licensed by Nintendo.

Or if your problem isn't the device staying in your hands you could try one of these but they don't have an open space to put in cards; not a problem if you slapped a beefy sd card in there and are all digital though.

u/FreyaWho8 · 2 pointsr/3DS

That case is a good choice to take the 3DS anywhere but also I would highly suggest you get a Hori Clear cover just like the one /u/CarolineTurpentine mentioned.

I tried roughing the surface on mine as I found games unplayable with the default circle pad. It only helped marginally. The caps are a godsend and the best solution.

u/godshammer915 · 2 pointsr/3DS

I really liked that grip but if you play a lot of games that use the shoulder buttons, I found the finger grips on the back to be a bit too high and puts your hand in an awkward position. That being said, I prefer this model for every game that doesn't the shoulder buttons much.

If you do play a lot of Monster Hunter or games that use the shoulders a lot, try this one Cyber Gadget Rubber Coating Grip 2 Black For Nintendo New 3DS LL XL https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013JDH8J0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_5le0xbBSRD90R They moved the finger grips a little lower and makes it a more natural grip.

Cyber Grip 2

If your main concern is comfort, I highly recommend a grip. This is the one I have and it is amazing. Extremely comfortable.

Something to think about. Unless you find a person interesting in trading, I doubt you will find any store willing to do a 1 to 1 trade.

u/Davel23 · 2 pointsr/3DS

I use this one. It's perfect, at least for me.

u/Rufio6 · 2 pointsr/3DS

I use the Hori monster hunter one, but it is massive and pricey. Comfortable though, and sweats better than my other plastic grips.

I'm gonna take a chance on this $8 one from eBay, looks to be one of the slimmer profiles: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Game-controller-Case-Plastic-Hand-Grip-Handle-Stand-for-Nintendo-3DS-LL-XL-EM/292150547574?hash=item4405879476:g:Ti0AAOSw9~5ZQSS9

I got a grip off of Amazon for like less that 30 bucks. I'm not sure what the company name is but it has very obvious red Japanese writing all over the front of it, just search new 3DS XL grip and it should pop up. I have had about 3 different grips for my DS and this one is by a far margin the absolute best. It removes easily, it allows access to your game slot and stylus, it has false triggers to make holding it very comfortable, the smooth surface is clean and doesn't "gunk up" and is also easily cleaned if it does get dirty. I highly suggest this grip when available. I would try and get a link but I am out to sea (Navy) right now and I cannot get one..

spend the money and get the king of 3DS gaming grips. it is a GAME changer in terms of hand comfort, long term gaming and smash on the go

my only gripe is it loses the ability to pocket the system along with setting it down flat.... but its easy to take on and off AND has cart storage so it offsets. the hinges brake on mine and I'd just buy another it feels so good

u/furyofturi · 2 pointsr/MonsterHunter

https://www.amazon.com/Gadget-Coating-Nintendo-New-3DS-LL/dp/B013JDH8J0

The cyber gadget one is great. The original Hori X one is pretty cool too, and I have used both (my friend got it when first released, and far less expensive).

This one has a very comfortable rubber finish, and fits big hands well. It’s keeps your wrists pointed out at more of a 45 degree angle than the Hori one does, and helps prevent scratching your system (my poor regular 3DS XL got ABUSED by the circle pad pro). Also, features a pocket to hold two cartridges, or use to hold up the system! Very comfy, seats the system well, is excellent and what I use and love.

Drawbacks- no buttons as part of the grip. There are ridges on the back that take getting used to, but still, I said this is a comfy grip. You basically just put your middle fingers across these lower grips. I would LOVE if it had L/R/ZL/ZR buttons, but simply gives you access to comfy access to the actual buttons on the system. This is definitely where the Hori one does better, by providing big triggers on the grip, but this definitely works.

As someone who just recently bought a grip, specifically for playing 4U, this is the one to go with, and is cost efficient and of great quality

Because I use and abuse my touchscreen and it's prone to scratches, I will always, always recommend a protector on the bottom screen. This may only apply if you play stylus-heavy games like EBA/Osu!, Picross, etc. I like knowing I can swap a protector in a few years and it'll be good as new.

> I'm terrible at applying anything but tempered glass.

The official Hori protectors have a really nice application method that's almost impossible to mess up. There's a small bit of temporary adhesive on one side to help you line it up, then you apply it for real one half at a time.

Was debating getting a 2XL or a refurbished N3XL for me and my sister but found a new N3XL for $175 on Amazon. $50 more than getting two 2XLs but, brand new, 3d feature is there if needed, better speakers, and longer battery life (several reviews have mentioned 2XL has shorter battery life).

So, I'm on the hunt for some accessories and was wondering if ya'll could help me pick some out.

Charger Will need 2 of these.

  • Is there a difference in charging times between the wall charger and usb chargers?
  • Difference between charge times using usb chargers when plugged into usb wall charger and PC? Would one charge faster than the other?
  • In one of the reviews for the Yuyikes USB charger, someone asked about the difference between it and cheaper usb cables. Someone replied that the cheaper ones only charge while the DS is asleep/off while it can charge while playing. Is this true?
  • Using a USB cable, can you transfer things back and forth between a PC and the DS? Be it the system it self or a microSD card?

    HDE 3 Pack USB | $8

  • Does the system close properly with screen protectors installed on the top and bottom screen?

u/AsmundGudrod · 1 pointr/3DS

You need to buy the new duraflex protector for the new 3ds. Old one won't fit.
Here's a video If you want to see what it looks like and how much bulk it adds.

Amazon is currently out of stock of them ATM, and no word of when it's getting them back in. I've heard as late as May.

Ah, gotcha. That makes sense.

One thing you might want to consider is a clear skin/case like this one

I throw my MM N3dsxl into my work bag all the time with the case, and its no worse for the wear. If you are more paranoid, putting it in any cloth satchel would keep it perfect.

Edit: linked a similar case for the regular sized new 3ds https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B018DM475K/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1465781615&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=New+3ds+case&dpPl=1&dpID=41b0%2Bnf%2BwuL&ref=plSrch

Is getting a screen protector worth it? How many scratches have you guys gotten on your screens? My last nintendo handheld was the DSi, so I'm not really sure if I'll need one.

Also, what about the clear protector? I'm getting the MH4U edition, so obviously I'd like to preserve the nice painting, but I'm just not sure if it's necessary.

I think my HORI Duraflexi case for NEW N3DS XL is defective?

Here is a picture showing the issue I'm having. It just doesn't fit or lay right around the charging port. I have the Skinomi skin protector on my system, but I didn't think it would give it that much extra bulk!

I plan to send this back to Amazon.com since I prefer the Skinomi skin, but was curious if anyone else had similar problems?

u/ruemeridian · 1 pointr/3DS

HORI also makes a Duraflexi TPU case for the n3DS for what it's worth (which is also clear, but textured on the inside giving it an ever so slightly cloudy appearance), not just screen protectors.

And if you're the kind of person who is into pouches, this Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate pouch is pretty awesome I think.

As a fellow 3DS owner I highly recommend getting a grip accessory of some kind. I have a n3DSxl and got the official, Japan only monster Hunter grip and it's simply amazing. It's almost as good as any console controller, hopefully there's a good one for n2DSxl (I hate these acronyms). Also, I really like these circle pad covers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UURTXK6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_WLs1CbSHQJ76G

Also also, I recommend installing cfw. It's easy to do and you get a lot of benefits that aren't just piracy like custom themes that can cycle, increasing the CPU clock speed which makes games like MGS3 3D much more playable, and installing game mods that even work with carts. No, you won't actually get banned from online unless you try to play a game online that hasn't officially been released yet (and it's still circumventable regardless)

https://3ds.hacks.guide/

u/VenusFurs · 1 pointr/3DS

If your circle pad actually still works and it's just the rubber cover that peeled off, i wouldn't risk opening up the console just to replace it.

Instead, you can grab one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Cyber-%E3%83%BBPremium-Slide-Cover-Clear-Black/dp/B00UURTXK6/

You basically just put it above your circle pad and you should have a pretty nice grip over it.

The ones you linked were slightly more expensive than the ones I bought, so I avoided them. Ergo, I can't vouch for them :/. The ones I linked are pretty good though! Definitely an improvement, although the thumb slips will still happen after an hour or two of play. I highly recommend keeping some sort of small towel on standby just to wipe off the sticks and your hands in between hunts.

Don't buy a new controller, clean/ fix your existing one. It will cost a lot less (~15$) and you will be able to clean/fix all of your other controllers as well. May sound weird because I'm telling you to fix your existing one but don't buy replacement joysticks... the rubber will just fall off on those too... =[ Ive wasted some $ on shitty "replacement" joysticks that don't even last a day. Buy 1 pack of these https://www.amazon.com/Cyber-%E3%83%BBPremium-Slide-Cover-Clear-Black/dp/B00UURTXK6/ref=sr_1_1?s=instant-video&ie=UTF8&qid=1479033751&sr=8-1&keywords=3ds+circle+pad+cover and glue it to your joystick. I used an epoxy resin because i figured it would do the best gluing plastic on plastic but super glue would probably work too. You should still buy a tri-wing screwdriver https://www.amazon.com/Gen-Lite-Tri-Wing-Triwing-Screwdriver-Tool/dp/B000VPBYS6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479034061&sr=8-1&keywords=triwing+screwdriver and some wet-wipes to get inside the controller and clean up a bit. Mine works like brand new but even better because the joystick will never wear down. I'll never part with my original orange GC controller >.<

u/MUViT · 1 pointr/3DS

I ordered these pad covers shortly after I bought my 3DS - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UURTXK6

Works like a charm, although some buyers are having issues with the covers themselves slipping off the pad. In that case try using super glue if you don't mind having a semi-permanent accessory.

u/JamesIsNotMyName · 1 pointr/3DS

I bought these, however they are a bit pricey for what they are, and I only really use one of them. But there isn't too much of a solution elsewhere from what I've found.

Sadly they aren't available in my country, so I'm using a cheap 5 bucks plastic one which - while not ideal - does the trick fine for me while I wait for the cybergrip to be available or until I find a cheap import.

Could try the brand new Cyber Gadget slim grip: https://www.amazon.com/Cyber-Gadget-Rubber-Coating-Black-Nintendo/dp/B01KWUNRV6/ref=dp_ob_title_vg

I'm currently deciding between that one, the monster hunter one (https://www.amazon.com/Monster-Hunter-Cross-hunting-gear-Nintendo/dp/B016XCSBC2/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1481064584&sr=1-1&keywords=3ds+xl+monster+hunter+grip), and the wider cyber gadget one (https://www.amazon.com/Cyber-Gadget-Rubber-Coating-Black-Nintendo/dp/B013JDH8J0/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1481064457&sr=1-1&keywords=cyber+grip+3ds+xl). u/CalSomers · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

I can confirm Myth's statement, as I own this leather pouch. The 3DSXL takes up about half of the room, leaving room for a couple games in those DS pockets, your charger, and a few other small odds and ends. My MH4U card case fits right in there in addition to the charger. I just wish I could find a pouch large enough to fit my grip, too.

u/allysonoa · 1 pointr/3DS

I had the same issues, plus it had a funky rubbery smell that I didn't like. I ended up only using it for about a week before I bought this one. I like it a lot better gripwise, but it's not as protective as the dreamgear.

May I ask what it is that makes it uncomfortable? If it is the system itself, I don't know which model you play on, but if it is the New 3DS Xl there is an awesome (if pricey) grip that makes it much more comfortable, at least for me!

Hopefully the Switch will have Virtual Console options that make sense, and that would be the obvious suggestion.

If a portable would interest him, then a New 3DS XL with the Hori Monster Hunter Grip-- only way to play the 3DS comfortably with man-sized hands. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016XCSBC2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I would expect eBay to have some used WiiU deals in March. But I would also recommend the Wii U Pro controller for hand comfort.

Lastly, an old Wii can be found for $50 on eBay. It would take years to exhaust the Virtual Console games (Nintendo, Super Nintendo, N64, Wii), but who knows how long they'll be supported.

I have used both the 2 ds and new 3ds extensively. It is much less crapped but you dont have the extra camera stick ( which i actually dont use.) Has slower loading times, and a smaller battery life. You have to be careful with your screens though probably pick up a protective carrying case to protect the two screens as this is why mine is dead. Your other and probably cheaper option is to buy a the monster hunter controller attachment thing for your existing ds.

I have 288 badges. XD

So to confirm, if I get one of the games, it has to be the physical cartridge (not eshop)? And then I also need a powersave as well? Is that another physical thing I have to buy, or it is just a download?

Additionally, if I go with the Ocarina of Time method (since it's the cheapest one and it's the only one I'd have any interest in as an actual game), does it matter if I have the "Nintendo Selects" version (which is cheaper), or do I need the one that doesn't say that? Is there even a difference?

u/MegaPower124 · 1 pointr/gaming

Two of those three games have sufficiently better remakes, perhaps he will have the same feeling of missing out on something growing up if you give him an almost 15 year old console, instead of the new and hip versions of the same experiences. Remember parents/future parents, there's a purpose to remakes.

(By the way, said remakes are here and here you might also want to see this and this )

u/Pogotross · 1 pointr/books

I think you're highly underestimating games. Many of our classics have been rereleased (gaming) generation after generation. Obviously they are no examples as old as LotR, but Super Mario Brothers, The Legend of Zelda, Mega Man are all considered "mandatory" playthroughs even today, nearly 30 years after their release, and show no signs of stopping, and are all still currently available for sale (via Nintendo's eShop.) Plenty of games have fallen by the wayside, of course, but so have many, many books.

Or, if you want a physical release, Ocarina of Time was just rereleased for 3DS with minimal changes (no more than a forward would add to a book, really, and one or two "grammatical" changes to make a level a bit more clear) in 2011, and it's still currently number 5 on Amazon's 3DS game list. OoT will be 15 this September.

In fact, as I linked before, GoG is covered in games 15 years+, and they are well known for updating games (bug fixing, mostly, and getting rid of hilarious "This game needs at least 256mb of ram, you only have 2gb" types of errors).

Still, all that is long tail (well, not the Zelda and other high profile re-releases, of course). What I'm getting at is Steam style sales can completely revitalize a game (or, I believe, a book) that has hit long tail sales. For instance, Dustforce, an indie game that sold okay but wasn't a super hit, posted up these stats. They followed a similar 90% rule (Video games tend to a have a one month initial window, however) but, if you'll take a look at the graph, they continued selling steadily (~30 copies a day, not terrible) then hit their first major sale...where their graph suddenly came back to life. Then they hit the pay-what-you-want humble indie bundle, where the game surged back to life again, making in two weeks roughly half of what they had made in the nine months before and increasing their base trickle rates.

Complain - contact the seller and Amazon. I just went into the "Product details" on the page you linked: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003O6E800/ref=mw_dp_mpd?l=Product%20Details&pd=1

You'll see that under languages it just says "English" so it is fair to assume that it is the American version, not any other.

Is it still in its original packaging?

1: I've been trying to save up for more games for the new 3ds that my bf and I just bought to share, namely this game.

2: We don't have a lot of extra income so getting the 3ds was something we worked towards for a long time, and just because games are pretty expensive we don't have many. But we both love to play and it's something we love to share together. :)

I've always loveddddd the Animal Crossing series, and I would KILL to play New Leaf! I have so many fond memories of playing the other for hours on my Gamecube. My friends and I would have so much fun!

Luckily enough, New Leaf is on sale today for $26.59. Getting this would knock out half of my fund. :)

EDIT Just realized that the contest ends on the 1st. If the sale is over by then, I'd appreciate a gift card towards it! Thank you!

Welcome back!

Here's my list of suggestions, why, and links to where to get them. A few are only available on computer, but you'll see which ones:

  • Thomas Was Alone (Meta. A cute puzzle game about AIs, and their relationship to the game and developers. It's simple in graphics and big on heart. = computer - itunes - android
  • The Stanley Parable (another meta game. About the players role in games itself and their relationship to the developers. This is a MUST HAVE for anyone who is really into games. It's fantastic, hilarious and oddly artsy) = computer -
  • Telltale's "The Walking Dead" seasons 1 & 2. (These are some of the best games I've played. Point and Click adventure games that everyone loves, even those who don't like point and click games. They are extremely emotional and heart-pounding. I recommend it highly, especially if you want a game that you can watch him play, or vice versa, and really get a fantastic story. Storyline continues based on your decisions in the previous game) = SEASON ONE: computer - PS3 - XBOX360 - PSVITA - iPhone/iPad (first episode free, others are in-game purchases, same with all the mobile games) - Android === SEASON 2: computer - PS3 - XBOX360 - iPhone/iPad - Android
  • To The Moon (sweet looking 16 bit game that is more of an interactive story. It routinely makes people cry because it's so darned sweet. Love is a central theme.) = computer
  • Borderlands 2 and/or Borderlands the PreSequel (both fun and funny FPS games that you can run coop if you like) = BORDERLANDS 2: computer - XBOX360 - PS3 === BORDERLANDS PRESEQUEL: computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Portal (fun and funny puzzle game - but he MAY have already played this if the Half-Life 2 he got was the full "The Orange Box")
  • Portal 2 (also fun and funny, but with a coop mode as well) = computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Fallout 3 and/or Fallout: New Vegas (Post apocolypic games that are fun and often funny. They are open world RPGs with FPS playing style, although you can switch to 3rd person. Fallout 3 is more epic, grand and is more metropolitan, and Fallout New Vegas is more like a spaghetti western, intimate, and has better writing/storyline in my opinion) = FALLOUT 3: computer - XBOX360 - PS3 == FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS: computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Mass Effect 1, 2, & 3 (RPG/FPS set the future, in space, where the storyline continues, using your decisions from the previous games) = computer - XBOX360 - PS3
  • Red Dead Redemption (an open world RPG/FPS that takes pages from both spaghetti westerns and film noir. If you get this, be sure to get the add on called "Undead Nightmare", where you fight Zombies and meet mythical creatures. The base game is more artsy, and Undead Nightmare is just a squat load of fun.) The links that follow have both thenormal game, and Undead Nightmare in one. = XBOX360 - PS3

  • A different idea is to actually get him a wireless controller for his phone! If he has an Andriod, I would suggest the Power A Moga Hero Power It's portable, holds the phone, and I just am in love with mine. And because I have an Andriod, I can download ROMs to play older games like Zelda: Ocarina of Time, etc etc. But the controller works with SO many games! If he has an iPhone or iPad, or if you want another option for Android, I would go with the iPega. I don't have one, but it has the highest reviews.

As for if you should give 1 or 2 gifts, I think 2 might be a lot of fun! But it might depend on what the "1st place" person has on their list and what you want to give them! I'd say make the decision based off of what you want to give the main winner! =)

    ===========

EDIT - 3DS Games to consider:

  • Fire Emblem: Awakening - it's one of the best RPGs out for the 3DS. It's immersive and epic. Top reviews across the board.
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf because everyone loves it so much and it's just adorable.
  • Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney because anything Phoenix Wright related is flipping amazing and totally fun.
  • Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance A great option if he's played other Kingdom Hearts games.
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Especially if he's into Zelda, I agree with others that this is a nice option. Top-down action that returns to Zelda's roots.

edit 2: P.S: I'm new. I'll be making an intro post hopefully tonight! So hopefully it's alright that I posted here first. I was just excited, as I'm a gamer and love helping people with what to play next. In any event... HI!!

edit 3: I just made my [INTRO] post. It's here if you/anyone's interested.

dreamGEAR Comfort Grip for your Old Nintendo 3DS XL https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008XHCLFO?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Here’s the one I had gotten; it’s two parts, but I found myself only using the bottom/grip half. And while it definitely helped, I almost feel like a 3D printed grip would be better.

I can’t think of the name of the product right now, but there’s this cool two-part rubber agent that’s moldable momentarily but then eventually hardens. I put some on a wiimote and nunchuck grips and basically molded my hand, which made gameplay super comfy.

I've used a few different cases in the past, but the Super Mario Transporter by PowerA is hands down the best one I've gotten.

It can hold 20 DS/3DS games.
And it holds my 3DS XL with the DreamGEAR ComfortGrip attached to it just fine And it still has room for the AC/Car chargers and styluses.

It also comes in Black, Red and Blue. I chose the black one because it still looks cool but is more discrete.

u/LuntiX · 1 pointr/xboxone

I've experienced it with PC Gaming and handheld gaming (3DS and whatnot). With PC Gaming I use to get a sore wrist, but now I buy mousepads with the wrist pad and now my wrist barely gets sore. For handheld gaming I have a double jointed thumb, if I hold a position too long it hurts like hell and cramps up, I had to buy a hand grip for my 3DS and now my thumb still hurts, just not as fast/often.

I always keep mine in this case. It's seriously the most comfortable thing you can get to play your 3DS for any extended time (makes Smash WAY easier to play) plus, it protects it from my rambunctious toddler.

An added benefit of this is that it covers up most of the blinking lights, so it doesn't light up an entire dark room. They can still be seen through the trip though. And the message light is not covered up at all.

u/Archnation · 1 pointr/3DS

I did the same but I REALLY didnt like how far you had to move your fingers up to use the shoulder buttons. Heres the one I bought. I ended up buying some Poly clay and making it more comfortable to put your index fingers on the shoulders, middle fingers on the black original cyber grip part and your ring fingers on the molded portion.

Heres a picture of what I did - Bonus picture of my cat & Ike in his white alt color in SSB4

Sorry for the potato picture.

I basically molded it to my liking then baked it attached to the grip at a lower-than-recommended temperature (about 170-185 for over an hour. I placed it on a few wine bottle corks that were placed on top of a glass cooking container thing I turned upside-down.

Then I sanded a little bit and remembered I hate sanding poly clay so I stopped and now it is lumpy but comfortable.

u/archzinno · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

I use this (note I didn't buy it for that much)

As far as cramp relief it's great, but for the L, R, zL, and zR buttons it kind of digs into your hand. it's a minor inconvienience.

u/pyrocatheter · 1 pointr/smashbros

I've been using this for a while. I personally find it a little annoying when you have to use the triggers, but it's much more comfortable to hold and a lot of people like it. It also blocks the stylus, but that shouldn't be a problem for Smash.

u/zegmin · 1 pointr/smashbros

I would recommend this, or if you're looking to save money, this. There were some 3ds XL Trigger Grips on eBay, but it seems they no longer sell them.

u/ghostretch · 1 pointr/3DS
u/bensly · 1 pointr/3DS

I bought this grip for my NA unit. I have been pretty pleased with it for RPGs and Mario Kart.

The biggest problem with it is that you can not get to the stylus with this attached. I remedy that by either already having it out if I am going to need it, or just use my finger. I looked into getting a finger stylus, but haven't gotten around to it.

It is also sometimes awkward to use the shoulder buttons depending on the game. Overall though, I have enjoyed this purchase.

u/Abysssion · 1 pointr/3DS
u/SupaStaVince · 1 pointr/3DS

I get asked this a lot. Short answer, don't worry about CPP. I get by just fine without it, hell I don't even use the digital D-pad. The L button is all I need. CPP is overrated as a primary imput. If you need camera controls, the C-stick will work just fine. A lot of people don't even know how to use it properly which is where all the complaints arise from.

I normally tell people to get a Wii U instead of a NN3DS if they already have a 3DS and if they don't have a 3DS, to get the NN3DS. But if your main issue is simply holding the system rather than being a matter of deciding what to buy, get a NN3DS and get one of these. http://www.amazon.com/CYBER-grip-rubber-coating-3DS-LL/dp/B008ZXBYJU

u/sunzenkashu · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

Have a 3dsxl [old model] I use the circle pad pro for mh4u. I like the extra grip as I find the 3dsxl to be a bit of a hand cramp. Still looking forward to getting a n3dsxl tho.

I ordered a circle pad pro from japan fit the old 3dsxl,

Circle Pad Pro - Nintendo 3DS LL Accessory (3DS LL Console Not Included) Japan Inport https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009LGO88E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fB2JybEN32HH9

Works fine in my US 3dsxl. Uses 1 AAA battery, haven't had to change it much yet.

There's also a regular 3ds version if you go that route.

Something to add is that a lot of games get a load time decrease with the new 3ds (and xl) models. Usually a few seconds but kinda more noticeable in newer games.

Not sure where you're located if Amazon/Gamestop/Ebay are good choices for you? I've found that using the lock on/button to center on the monster is immensely helpful, both for making sure I know where it is and for maintaining the critical distance.

I think practice is really the best thing! Sometimes I've taken quite a long time to take down a monster simply because I took time to watch its moves and dodged around until I felt comfortable with its attacks. I picked up adept style for a few fights because the dodge is much more forgiving once you know where to dodge (With a great free charge rank up/power shot!).

If you're having trouble with the weapon itself there are really great videos up on youtube and guides online (and here) for different approaches. Again, it really depends on your playstyle. At a glance and a quick search, this page seemed helpful! http://laxgg.blogspot.com/p/mhgen-bow-mechanics.html

It also might help to have a protection/healer palico that has taunt and some heals for you if you're struggling with item management or aggro from the monster. As someone that plays LS offline and LBG/bow online, sometimes its harder when you don't have other hunters keeping it busy lol. You do have a pretty large chunk of time to complete your hunts so don't feel rushed that you can't watch the monster.

That is called a Circle pad Pro (CPP). You can snag one on Amazon.
http://smile.amazon.com/Circle-Pad-Pro-Nintendo-Accessory-3dsXL/dp/B009LGO88E

u/iDingo91 · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

I'm going to assume that it is this that I will want.

Also, is there a place you would recommend to purchase the game or a way to find it on sale?

u/ostrosco · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

You can solo with any weapon, in my opinion. With the ranged weapons, you have to take more care on how you place your shots since you're working with limited resources (ammo or coatings depending on if you go bowgun or bow,).

If you have the 3DS XL, I recommend the Circle Pad Pro for aiming. I like how it feels so much I haven't considered upgrading to the New 3DS. If you have the older, smaller 3DS I don't know if there's an option for you besides using the touchscreen to move the camera.

u/shankdog10 · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

3DS (CPP) should be found in stores (GameStop?) no problem.

3DSXL (CPP LL) might be harder to find in stores, I got mine online (Japan Import) for $20.

u/kevinsyel · 1 pointr/gaming

there are circle pads for the 3DS XL too. my roommate just got one.

http://www.amazon.com/Circle-Pad-Pro-Nintendo-Accessory-Included/dp/B009LGO88E

It works with the Japanese LL and the NA XL (same model)

u/memeticMutant · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

Yes, but you have to import it. Here is a starting point. You may be able to find a better deal.

u/ThisEndsHere · 1 pointr/wiiu

Or you could get one of these like me.

Hey, they're cheap now. I had to pay $50. Ha

u/moustachesamurai · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

You could get this one.

Unsure of how much the shipping will be if you order from American Amazon to Brazil, though. Maybe you can find it on the Brazilian Amazon?

But it is definitely worth it at that price.

u/Deuterostome · 1 pointr/MonsterHunter

Its Nintendo made circle pad pro for the 3ds xl (3ds LL in japan).

What the fuck am I looking at? It moves the left circle pad to the right?

u/Tickleberry · 1 pointr/3DS

I would suggest amazon, it's imported from Japan but it's still from nintendo. $20

look for a store near you: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B009LGO88E/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

also the total cost from Nintendo should be like 28 with avrg 2 week wait.

Congratulations on your pregnancy :)

$20 and $40

u/rfry11 · 1 pointr/patientgamers

You can buy it for $40 right here, but of course that NA Amazon so your mileage might vary.

Also I bought it off a friend for $20, so eBay/friends are definitely cheaper than buying from a merchant.

u/sqrtoftwo · 1 pointr/gameswap

What is the condition? Bayonetta 2 is going for nearly $70 used on Amazon at the moment. Fire Emblem: Awakening goes for around $23 used, or $38 new. I want to do as even a trade as possible.

u/elcow · 1 pointr/fireemblem

Price matched by Amazon ($29.99 USD) (go to "More Buying Choices" on the right side to purchase from Amazon itself).

youre only saving about 5-10 dollars you might as well save your money and buy it new.

u/nicmckael · 1 pointr/3DS

You can buy grip type things that cover the circles. Makes the circle 100 x's better. I'll post a link from Amazon momentarily....

Edit: Circle Pad Cover - Nintendo (3DS LL/3DS) Black Accessory Japan Inport http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C1XYUY6/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_mCCdub0RBGXPR

u/kaylejoy · 1 pointr/3DS

It looks so sleek! Have you ever tried using a circle pad cover?

u/h_1995 · 1 pointr/3DS

i bought this item https://www.amazon.com/Circle-Pad-Cover-Nintendo-Accessory-Inport/dp/B00C1XYUY6

as the circle pad silicone had begun to tore off i went to rip it from the circle pad housing. as i was thinking glue is a bad idea, i got this material https://www.amazon.com/Faber-Castell-Multipurpose-Adhesive-Non-Toxic-Removable/dp/B01DMA7QW4

good thing is this adhesive is removable (though there are some traces but can be removed easily) so that you can adjust the thickness until it feels right. the way to apply it is like applying a thermal paste, but way smaller

edit: the circle pad silicone is glued to the housing but since the silicone is flimsy, the glue is somewhat flimsy as well. should be easy to rip the silicone apart

u/wizlx · 1 pointr/3DS

I've already damaged my 3DS XL analog stick to the point where it is almost unusable. The XL has a much shittier analog stick than the normal 3DS. But I've just ordered THIS so hopefully it will improve the shitty analog stick. Ive also noticed that the buttons are starting to cave in a bit :(

u/Srirachachacha · 1 pointr/gaming

u/fenom · 1 pointr/3DS

They make some of those specifically for the 3DS. Why not just use one of those?

u/JindrakPrime · 1 pointr/CrazyHand

I'm thinking of investing in a set of these (or something similar):

http://www.amazon.com/Circle-Pad-Cover-Nintendo-Accessory-Inport/dp/B00C1XYUY6

u/OpenlyCray · 1 pointr/3DS

http://www.amazon.com/Circle-Pad-Cover-Nintendo-Accessory-Inport/dp/B00C1XYUY6 You want these, trust me. They give me a sense of safety while I play, like my circle pad isn't going to get damaged, and the give you a better grip at the same time. Takes a little bit of force to get on and off at first, though.

u/lissie819 · 1 pointr/gaming

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C1XYUY6/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687462&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00C1XYUSM&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1MXAJP5V6FXNJ6A3GCCA

I bought these a while ago for my XL to protect the rubber. They work well and have good grips, but sometimes fall off which is how i lost my first one. The second one I chose seems to hold up better since it hasn't fallen off after intense ssb.

u/KoopaKlaw · 1 pointr/3DS

I'm in the middle of doing a giveaway that has 19 boxes of eggs. I checked all them in about 3 minutes time. I use a Powersaves 3DS. It's honestly the best $15 I've spent in a long time.

I bought this one. In case you're wondering :)

u/atomic_winter · 1 pointr/3dshacks

Thank you :) Is this the right thing? If so, I can order it now and use OoTHax :) Cheaper than buying a game I'd never play ;)

u/Ho-ohsMeMoney · 1 pointr/pokemontrades

Cool, thanks! This looks really similar to the one I was thinking about buying here did you ever have any problems with it?

u/laturner92 · 1 pointr/SVExchange

You need to purchase PowerSaves to do this though. It's well worth the buy and can be bought on Amazon here

u/Polypropylen · 1 pointr/powersaves3ds

I didn't even know there are modules for single games. Why would you buy that if you can get a universal module for 18€? https://www.amazon.de/Action-Replay-Power-Saves-Nintendo/dp/B00CQ9L1Z6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468825511&sr=8-1&keywords=action+replay+3ds

u/er1c1996 · 1 pointr/3dshacks

This device, which allows you to put the oothax exploit onto an oot cart without any other hardware. It only works with oothax because all other exploits are for games that don't work with powersaves.

u/mainlylurkz · 1 pointr/SVExchange

Yes! They came back just a few weeks ago actually. KeySAV and Mass Dumper have made it all possible. If you have the digital copy it's all free. The retail copy needs a PowerSaves device. Those usually run for about $15 so it's not that bad.

EDIT: Cleaned up the links a little bit. The KeySAV and Mass Dumper links are from the Tools in the wiki. I found the cheapest PowerSaves on Amazon and it's apparently $18. The range seems more like $20~40 now. I'm sure you might be able to pick one up at your local gamestop for about 30 bucks.

u/satanftw · 1 pointr/CasualPokemonTrades

I've been using the 2 3DS method, but like you said, it's a bitch. I'm thinking very seriously about buying [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Action-Replay-Powersaves-Cheat-Device-Nintendo/dp/B00CQ9L1Z6). Is this what you have?

u/SonicvMario · 1 pointr/3dshacks

If I just want to install unsigned cias and stream to my PC do I just need to downgrade to 9.2 and install Luma3DS and NTR?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Datel-Action-Replay-Power-Nintendo/dp/B00CQ9L1Z6 is this what I need to get for OOTHAX?

u/Umbreown · 1 pointr/SVExchange

Yup there is. Powersaves is a cheating device that works for the 3DS/3DS XL, just like the Action Replay works for a regular DS. Powersaves recently released Pokemon X and Y support. With this, people are able to get their savefiles onto their PCs, and using a program called KeySAV (made by /u/Kaphotics, the admin of Pokecheck) you can decrypt the data in your savefile and find out the SVs of your eggs :). I don't have powersaves yet but I managed to get someone to check this egg for me. You can buy powersaves here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Action-Replay-Powersaves-Cheat-Device-Nintendo/dp/B00CQ9L1Z6

Also, if you own a digital copy of X/Y instead of the cartdrige one, you don't need powersaves, you can easily export the save file onto your computer from your SD card. I was probably not very clear on how these methods work, but check the recent updates on the subreddit and you'll understand everything better :).

u/RHeegaard · 1 pointr/pokemontrades

I've been thinking about getting a Powersaves device for a while now, and with Porybox out now, it seems like a good time to do it. But just to be sure, this is the correct device, right? If so, I'm just going to order it now!

u/craniallyCarbonic · 1 pointr/3dshacks

Your options are: Freakyforms Deluxe, a Powersaves with a physical copy of either OoT, SMD, or ORAS, or a Sky3DS.

With Freakyforms, how it works is you scan a QR code that crashes the game and loads the homebrew launcher. With the Powersaves exploits, you write a hacked save to the cart, load the save, and then initiate a similar crash that's game-specific (e.g., changing your secret team name in ORAS). In both cases, the homebrew launcher needs to be copy/pasted to your SD card, adding boot.3dsx and /3ds/ to the root.

Edit: More info on the homebrew launcher is here. The exploits listed above are, in order, freakyhax, OoThax, SMChax, and basehax.

u/redHHHood · 1 pointr/pokemon

I'm reading the guide and it says

"This guide will work on New 3DS, Old 3DS, and 2DS in the EUR, JPN, or USA regions on firmware 11.0.0 or below."

Do I still need OOT+powersaves if it's on 10.6/.7 ?

u/Dafondo · 1 pointr/pokemon

IIRC, if you have a digital copy, the save files should be located on your SD card. You could copy those over and start a new game. (See Below)

If you have a physical cartridge, you'll have to purchase a Powersaves (here or here depending on your region).

If you're not worried about losing items, you can just transfer your Pokemon to Bank.
