These bad boys are pretty handy

I'll interpret "guy stuff" as "EDC stuff".

It is the OG scarf!
You can get it here
The price has gone up a couple bucks since Yang popularized it.

A 6-pack for $40 goes well beyond "a bit more expensive" territory. Especially for a product that seems so basic.

Any particular reason to buy these over, say:

2
40 metal collar stays + 2 35 neodymium magnets = ~$32 ?

Seems like gratuitous spending.

Plus you still need to store the magnetic versions somewhere -- might as well just use a magnet separately.

Unless sticking to fridges is your go-to party trick or something.

u/pyotrthegreat · 6 pointsr/EDC

Truthfully I'd just recreate what I have, as it would almost entirely fit inside the budget:
SS Jotter, I used this before switching to a TT Shaker, it is still fantastic.
Leek, been thinking about upgrading but still fantastic and the alternatives are way more expensive.
SF 348 I got the unlabelled BLF variant, and it is fantastic. Sleek, small, and bright.
MOTA Pocket Tool One of the card tool variants, I've used a few of its parts, but will radily admit that on these not everything is useful.
Flowfold This holds everything listed above, and does so without increasing the volume of my pocket, and making everything quieter and easier to pick up and go with.
Cable Key Ring Great, because it is large and thin, so I have my keys and car keys and USB on here. I tried a Keydisk mini, but found it still rattles against the car key, is fairly bulky, and cannot hold the USB. May try one of the new Orbitkeys next.
USB Drive, goes with the keys, I actually have a SP J80 32, but for some reason that one has increased in price.
Bifold Wallet The one I currently have is very similar, but I have no idea what it is called, a basic bifold.

So, this budget covers everything save the watch, which I didn't leave room for, because downgrading from a pebble would be sad, and getting one would be the entire budget. My choice to recollect everything I have mostly indicates how happy I am with the set that I created.

Via the Saddleback site

Via Amazon

They're pretty damn neat wallets.

u/llcooljessie · 5 pointsr/BuyItForLife

There's definitely a semantic issue when shopping for these. In the wallet world, these seem to be called "card cases." I've been using this one for about a year. Very little signs of wear.

u/Sahara_Devil · 4 pointsr/malefashionadvice

So, I had this decision to make a little while back and I pulled the trigger and went with A Saddleback ID wallet. For several reasons.

1: The Saddleback is so. much. cheaper. -depending on Tanner Goods choice

2: The quality is still good for the Saddleback (full grain leather and vegetable dyes), and isn't as flashy as Tanner Goods.

3: The small profile of the ID wallet has allowed me to prevent bulky wallets from showing in my shorts and jeans. I found the slightly more space for storage than say the Tanner Goods journeyman to be worth it, the journeyman is too small for day use in my opinion.

4: I have back pain, and the smaller profile ID wallet allows me to keep it in front pockets without being obtrusive.

5: I've gotten plenty of compliments with the Saddleback, specifically I got the Tobacco colored one, I find it goes very well with almost anything.

6: The smaller ID wallet lets you keep just what you need, some cash a few cards, and an ID so you don't clutter your wallet up.

Okay, I'll bite. These are all items I currently carry in my EDC organizer that are under $10.

Uncle Bill's tweezers (definitely not in the everyday use category, but superb for that "damn I need this" category. e.g. wife with metal filing splinter)

16 oz Nalgene (just started carrying mine and glad I did. e.g. I need to drink more water)

Mirror (sure you can use your phone, but I've found it handy a few times. e.g. at work place before meetings; to pick that food out your teeth after lunch)

Toothpicks (to pick said food from teeth before meeting)

WD-40 pen (cuz... WD-40. e.g. squeaks and stuff)

• Hand Sanitizer pen (because germs. e.g. after a BBQ Brisket Quesadilla for lunch)

Gorilla Glue super glue (again, used a few times, but in a "save the day" type of situation.)

• Plastic or Metal Collar Stays (I always seem to forget collar stays, so I pack them in my EDC organizer)

$10 (in cash) (I've forgotten my wallet once before—but had my EDC organizer in my laptop bag—still got to eat lunch that day)

Yes I realize 4 of my items specifically mention "lunch".

u/Johnny_15 · 4 pointsr/YangForPresidentHQ

You can get this one from Amazon. If you’re buying it for Halloween, get it now so it arrives in time (it’s shipped from China)

I did a video on a bi-fold which is pretty light and slim. The other two wallets visible at the beginning of the video are the Saddleback front pocket wallet and the slimmy front pocket wallet. I use the Slimmy most often, its a great thin wallet.

u/1841lodger · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Well, I recently got a pair of Wurkin Stiffs Power Stays on the cheap (I think they were $15 at Nordstrom Rack). And I wasn't too crazy about them. I've used plastic and metal stays before, and they've honestly worked just as well in my experience. For that price, I would pass in the future. But your link seems to be a slightly different style of product.

I suppose it could be interesting, but I would honestly use them primarily for button down shirts to keep a clean look between that 1st and 2nd button down on some shirts. Too deep look trashy, and too high looks up-tight. In between is just about right. These could do the trick, but I'm not sure if they're worth it, how well they work, or if they would look seamless and not overly try-hard. Not to mention, most of my shirts look fine without them.

There are a couple of collar-stay "packs" as HeresWhyYouSuck suggests at Amazon. Many are in the same price-range. My last pack of 4-sizes, 24-in-a-set was this one: AmazonCollarStay

I was in the same situation; now I carry my car key on a suspension clip, clipped to my right rear pocket. If you look around on ebay, you can get a dozen of em for just a few dollars, so when they inevitably snag and snap, you can just replace it right away.

The best part about it is that you can get your key in/out without taking your gloves off to fish around in your pockets.

I hope you have thermal underwear in that mix somewhere. Thermals are key.

When I ski I wear 3 thermal tops and one bottom with These snowpants and this belt.

You probably don't need something that expensive for just messing around in the snow. Check for closeout sales if you actually want to get one. Last years winter outdoor jackets/pants and some gear is always 20-60% off.

These look like what red scout is wearing, rolled up.

Or these

Belt

I believe these are what he is actually wearing, rolled up

Tape this to the bag

Do you have a target? He does not seem to really be wearing baseball pants, more along the lines of rolled up work pants or really look like rolled up umpire pants, these should be an easy match, roll them up into shorts like he does and voila! A perfect match! Or maybe even a pair of dickie like shorts that you can roll up a bit. You need that roll on the bottom and you need charcoal color!

u/KylenolForKids · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Wurkin Stiffs are only $20 on Amazon

That said, I wear them every time I wear a non-button down collar without a tie and will continue to in the future. They successfully eliminate the problem you describe on most shirts, although they can be a little awkward with certain collars. I think I've gradually gotten better at finding the appropriate place to put the magnets.

Pull the trigger if you'll use them. It's also a cool small business that appeared on Shark Tank, if you want to look into them more.

Definitely Wurkin Stiffs. Both Dappered and Primer Magazine wholeheartedly endorse them, and it's not hard to see why after using them for a while.

u/giraffeinquicksand · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

So what will you be doing with the other sizes? So I will be purchasing 24 collar stays, and I would not be able to use half of them?

Yes, I understand the appeal compared to Wurking Stiffs, but I purchased another one where I was able to control the sizes I was getting.

Edit: http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Collar-Stays-Plastic-Smooth/dp/B00CPWBE4C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395542535&sr=8-1&keywords=Collar+Stays

You might want to check Amazon. $40 for 6 stays and 6 magnets is extremely expensive.

I'm currently a big fan of the Distl Union Wally, I just wish the leather was a bit higher quality. Been carrying it for about a year now and it's already showing lots of fade where the corners of the card rub. Haven't found one I like better. Definitely not a BIFL candidate.

Just picked up the Vaultskin Chelsea wallet last month and I've been loving it. Leather feels nice and premium. It's a minimal wallet (I only carry 5 cards + ID and $20-40) but I love the "pull tab" feature that lets you access your cards quickly.

There are cheaper options that do similar shit, like cloth belts or elastic belts.

That aside, the mission belts do look awesome! If I wasn't such a cheap skate I'd think about it. (As it is, putting a new hole in my current belt is free, I like free).

Yep, that's exactly what happened to mine. Didn't have any trouble after removing the stitches for the band. I think you may run into the same issue with the band on the leather one, but as long as you're ok only using it for a year or two, it looks pretty sweet.

I actually switched to this one, with no band. Infinity Wallet.

I was just in your shoes as my former wallet was falling apart. After a decent amount of research I settled on the Distil Union Wally ([link](Distil Union Wally Bifold Slim Leather Wallets for Men - Money Clip, Credit Card Holder, Billfold (Ink with Flexlock) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M8MFWXS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_RcmsybCVVJ324). I've only had it for about two weeks but it's been great thus far. It's a bit on the minimal side, but I had gotten really tired of sitting on a big wad of cards, cash, and receipts all day, so it's been nice to go the other direction.

Here are some tips that may help:

If you're leaving the top button of a button-down open, wear a V-neck undershirt that will not show

If your shirt does not have a button down collar, use magnetic collar stays (such as Wurkin Stiffs) to prevent your collars from flaring. You can also find cheaper options by purchasing metal collar stays and neodymium magnets

If you're going to roll up your sleeves, consider wearing a watch that matches the formality of your outfit. This adds visual interest to your otherwise bare forearm and wrist

If you're wearing horizontal stripes, make sure that your clothing is well fitted. Otherwise, you're adding 10 lbs. with the bagginess and 10lbs. with the stripes

I'm not sure what you're thinking of wearing for shoes, but consider some medium to dark brown leather shoes (e.g. chukkas, driving mocs). Again, your footwear should match the formality of your outfit.

I hope this helps. You're already making much better style choices than I did for my senior pictures!

u/Semisonic · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Same. I'd love a legit set for under $50 each.

Edit - Turns out Wigwam makes one in black. I'm looking for a navy or olive myself, but if you want black this is almost certainly superior to the Rothco for ~$13.

Edit2 - Turns out SmartWool makes a beanie for $25-30. Assorted colors. Unfortunate logo placement.

I bought these which I love. You can buy the magnets seperate on Amazon and have 40 stays in 4 different sizes for less than the price of a single pair of Wurkin Stiffs.

Ya, that's been my hesitation with metal wallets. I currently have https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073D2J5ZS and it's been perfect for the couple of years I've had it, but just looking to change it up a bit.

I love my vault skin chelsea wallet.

This is the one I am currently using. Like it a lot. I have 9 cards in it. I very seldom have cash, but there is spare room for it.

I really like my RFID-blocking front-pocket Travelambo and I've had many small wallets.

That Carhartt beanie isn't even wool.

I'm using this Wigwam ($13.29). It gets so hot that I can't wear it unless the temperature is below 25F lol

Saddleback front pocket wallet.

I've had it for two years so far and even after overstuffing it a few times it's still perfect.

I've been using the Saddleback ID Wallet for like 2 years now, never turning back!

I've been pretty happy with this
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IEEJX3S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It does take a while to break in, at 1st getting cards out was a pain in the ass.

I would either wear a button down shirt or use collar stays.

u/digerati1338 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I've had this for about a year and I like it a lot.

This wallet changed my life.

I travel a lot for work and this is why I always request two room keys and you should too. It's pretty easy to make a crude pair of collar stays out of a hotel key. I wouldn't cut up something valuable to you (like a credit card).

I had to do this a time or two when the plastic stays in my shirts would get warped, but you can buy metal collar stays from Amazon for a few bucks. I bought a set for home and another that stays in my dopp kit.

Snag some scissors from the front desk and it can be done in a few minutes.

But don't be a cheap ass and try to make a bunch of your own. Just buy some metal stays and forget about it.

FWIW: Here's the set I have. The bag is kind of shitty, but I just tossed it.

NOTE: this link does not work properly on mobile, instead it redirects to the mobile Amazon page, then searches "wallet". Here are a few of the top links from the page, to help mobile users out:

Tommy Hilfiger Trifold - $20-25

Saddleback ID wallet - $35

Calvin Klein trifold - $35

Kenneth Cole passcase - $20

Take a peek! Only found out about them after I started working at a job with a much looser dress policy.

I bought this one a few months ago and it’s worked great! Link
