What is it with the collective hate for dubstep on reddit? I enjoy my Metal and Jazz, thank you very much, and still I think, e.g. Etched Headplate by Burial is a great song from a great album. Why is it that people like you go around and are like herp-derp-i-hate-this-because-everyone-does all over the goddamn place?

Lycia just released an album about a year ago. Tara von Flower has a bunch of solo stuff as well.

I was a goth kid in high school, too. Although I graduated in 2004 so most of these bands were dead already. I got excited about seeing the last Chameleons' show until I realized it was in England.

The Goth Box was a great portal for me, because it had over 60 bands on the track list.

I know a lot of people won't want to order from Amazon UK over Bleep, but they've got the pre-order for just over £10 here.

EDIT: Sorry folks, the price appears to have gone up to £11.99, still not bad though.

|track|Turquoise Hexagon Sun|
|about track|It has been suggested that the title, Turquoise Hexagon Sun, was inspired by a documentary featuring a prominent turquoise hexagonal sun lens flare. The number of blades making up the shutter of a camera influences the shape of the lens flare produced. As such, a six-bladed shutter would produce a hexagonal sun flare effect.|

Not mentioned here, but some of my (obscure) absolute favorites:

Eyes of the Nightmare Jungle

Trance to the Sun

Brotherhood of Pagans

Terminal Gods

Also, good places to start, pretty much cover most of the basics:

It sounds like a huge part of your musical experience was the manner in which you discovered it; I remember being 14 (I'm 21 now) and trading burned CD-Rs filled with tracks from Kazaa, or even being 10 and poking through my mom's CD collection. I think we've sort of lost that, traded in the serendipitous random discoveries of music for an infinite, instant catalog for cheap or even free. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic, but I'm not sure what's better.

Also, sorry to be pedantic, you misspelled Herb (Herp) Alpert in paragraph three. (Have you heard the remix of Whipped Cream & Other Delights? It's awesome.)

u/NovaStubble · 4 pointsr/bladerunner

Probably on Amazon. [$30](BLADE RUNNER (RED TRANSLUCENT VINYL) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BSTVEDE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_X.lFybK46K53B)

Hopefully this Amazon link works. If not, click the "see all 8 formats and editions" then expand the "Audio CD" line and you'll see the box set listed. I think this box only has size L though. Good luck!

I only have the LCD-2r2's with a Burson HD-160d, but Burial's Untrue definitely has some face-melting capability too.

  • Autechre's L-Event
  • Boards of Canada's Geogaddi

BoC is reissuing their entire back catalog on vinyl, so search for any titles that you want, or look at the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" section.

Admatha may not remember it (or may deny all knowledge), but we actually met at an X-Files convention in the late 90s, and she introduced me to the sport of lockpicking.

It was on the second night of the convention, and after the day's festivities had mostly wound down, I found myself wandering the corridors in a somewhat inebriated state. The room numbers were definitely blurry in that hotel, odd.

I reach door 442 and chortled. 42! Decided to bang on the door. 'Mulder! We gotta go!'. Out popped a pissed-off looking admatha. She took one look at me, correctly surmised that I was drunk as a skunk, and decided to shepherd me to my room. Or take me on a recon mission, one of the two.

<insert some ever-so-stealthy stumbling through the hotel, introducing myself to a pot plant as 'FBI'>

We reached my room, or the records room in the Pentagon and admatha bundled me inside. What a saint! I insisted upon giving her some of my bourbon, but it was locked in the safe and I didn't have the combination. Admatha picked the lock somehow (bobby pin probably) and retrieved the bottle. We toasted Mulder and Scully, after which point I passed out and admatha threw a blanket over me and went back to her room. She left the bottle, classy lady.

At a panel the next morning I recalled the lock picking, and admatha told me to go look it up on the internet. I learned the basics and saved my bacon a few times after forgetting my keys in subsequent years.

My item is this awesome new Bladerunner SACD. I want so badly to chill out with a glass of wine and this blasting on the stereo.

  • BT has several entire albums that are very much classically influenced, and there's typically at least a track or two on most of his other albums that have the complexity and scale of an orchestral work. Here are the three that I think best match your epic/orchestral description:

  1. This Binary Universe
  2. Morceau Subrosa
  3. If The Stars are Eternal so are You and I

  • Much of Hybrid's (AKA Hybrid Soundsystem) work is orchestral in sound and partially in instrumentation. Ex: "Finished Symphony"

  • Lastly, Sven Väth's Harlequin's Meditation. It starts off so sweetly and peacefully, then grows into this grand majesty that (to me) is hard to find outside of classical music. I've always likened it to a sunrise on an alien landscape, if I'm feelin' all poetical and stuffs.
u/racer_xtc · 2 pointsr/VinylDeals

I've been following this one for a bit, and this is the cheapest I've seen it by about $10. It's also available on Amazon through alternate sellers for a slightly higher price. (Link)

u/arachnophilia · 2 pointsr/vinyl

> I heard the Tron LP had very bad quality.. Can you confirm that?

mine sounds great too.

> And wow the Ghosts I-IV LP is goddamn expensive

$40, on amazon. the other version was expensive, and limited. this one's still relatively easy to come by. up until a little while ago, AinR was still selling them through the website, but not now. might have been recently discontinued, so grab it while you can.

u/spacemanticore · 2 pointsr/vinyl

It's on Amazon if you don't mind spending a 30$ premium. Or you could test your luck on Discogs and hope for one under 100$.

BT's "This Binary Universe"

Bill Laswell's "Ambient Compendium"

Cypher 7 "Security"

Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works 85-92"

Bluetech's "Divine Invasion"

Ah ok, well I believe there's quite a bit of Cleopatra disc sets still available on ebay/amazon/discogs.

Usually called something like: Goth Box

Yeah, just found one: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Goth-Box/release/427454

If you like electronic ambient music, you might like this aphex twin album

It's very chill. Aphex twin has a lot of music out there, and there is a lot of it that I find obnoxious/to far out for my tastes. However, this entire album is really great!

Maybe something like this? Here is a remixed version of a Herb Alpert album. Or are you thinking something more along the lines of marching band music?

Ya see, I'm not too sure what you listen to and I'm not good with picking just one item. If you don't, I'm gonna throw a few suggestions your way.

  • Rush's 2112. Just recently listened to them/this album for the first time last month-ish. People said it was great, and it is.

  • This Will Destroy You- Young Mountain. Don't know if you're big on Post-Rock, but I really recommend these guys.

  • Vangelis- Blade Runner. Don't know if you like synthesizers, Blade Runner or that noir feel in your music, but if you do, this would definitely be a good addition to your collection.

I'll stop there as to not make this any bulkier. Hope one of those is of interest to you.

Again, not good with decisions so either Yu-Gi-Oh cards, used manga or Jedi sticker.

But for real, What up doe? I'd be more than happy to suggest other albums if you really want.

Perhaps it's all just speculation, but I found references to it in this gentleman's "book"

For those that are saying RoR will be on the new album. I don't think so since RoR is already included on American and European version of Babymetal first album: http://www.amazon.com/Babymetal-special-digipack/dp/B00VH693BI/ref=pd_sim_15_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=51K0MLrP1qL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1VRCBYKVYSCHH9YY9T2J

Cheaper at Amazon and it's Prime eligible. Still $69.99 tho.

I know she's old enough to be my grandmother.... but Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass: Whipped Cream & Other Delights.
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41HM6A0CTDL.jpg

As a plus: there's a remix album, 'Rewhipped' thats actually really good, I stumbled on it trolling a coworker with one of the songs.

Moon Safari by Air is awesome. Super warm, loads of neat samples and tones.

Tycho has many amazing songs. This is just one album but I really love his stuff.

Raising Your Voice... by Hammock is one of my obsessions. Just amazing, trippy, vibes. Wonderful laid back vocals (if you can call them that!) with smooth guitar. Helios is very similar.

Far Away Trains Passing By by Ulrich Schnauss is amazing. Again very laid back and relaxing, wonderful soundscapes.

Opalescent by Jon Hopkins is highly recommended! Soothing sounds for almost any chill occasion.
