It looks like this is the light in question. They make a "yellow" light for the same hood, which seems like it would be more to your liking. Check it out. From the picture, it looks like you can just remove the set screws and swap the new lights in with the quick connect cables.

As always, even with low voltage, I recommend turning the power off at the breaker before you touch anything.

They are useful and do work, but are a pain in and of themselves, because they don't fit well and are usually flimsy. A couple of years ago I was cleaning my Ventahood filter and had a thought. Those metal filters work pretty much the same way as splatter screens and are indestructible. I picked up one at the Re-Store, but basically this: fits a range of pans, runs through the dishwasher happily, tough as nails, sits on the half sheet pans in the pantry. I don't use it every time I fry, because sometimes I need to constantly see, hear, and smell. For things like browning before braising a lot of Dawn liquid has been saved.

For a small cab it may be worth using the cabon sheets from hood extractors instead of a proper CF, obviously odour eliination will be affectedr but to get enough pull through a dedicated CF is going to take a fair amount of power....

you can pick up replacement carbon sheets online.

What I want to do is simple temporary things to ease the cleaning process when I move, and make it look a little nicer. The most invasive thing I would do is small nails or the like. If I can get by with Command strips, even better.
I was considering something a la this
, but 60 is a little more than I care to throw at a square sheet of metal.

Amazon has them. Some reviews say the replacement is brighter, but who knows

> it seems it's not essential for it to be on its own breaker.

Please don't misunderstand me, just because I did so in my house doesn't mean it's right, it is still a code violation to not have it on it's own breaker. If you get an inspection for any reason and they learn of this, you are not in compliance with NEC (or any local codes that may apply).

I'm fully aware this is a "do as I say and not as I do situation", but I can't in good conscience tell you to do something that is against code.

All that aside, if it were my house I'd probably do exactly what you're proposing doing, and take the slap on the wrist/fine/violation down the road if it came to that.

>The NuTone website actually lists "SHCK44"

Not sure where you saw that info as I can't find it listed in the manual on their site. If that actually is the correct part number I found this cord and this cord. You should be able to use any appliance cord that is the correct gauge, but I recommend you give Broan/Nutone a call and ask them directly to make sure you get a compatible part.
