I'm not offended and I'm not sure which part of my comment you misread that made you think that.
I offered constructive advice based on my experience working with plants, succulents in particular. Most people treat succulents the same as any ole houseplant, which they're not. They have unique needs, but they're not hard to take care of and keep alive.
At no point did I tell you to scrap the idea entirely. In fact, Amazon has even cheaper faux succulents. They're <$30 and then you won't have to deal with the succulents you don't want in your house. You won't have to deal with planting them or caring for them at all.
Stock up everyone!!
You're definitely going to have to add in more silk plants (or live plants if you want to go that path, Java Fern I've heard is super easy), get rid of that pink plastic plant, it looks like it could be a fin-shredder if betta boi swims past or into it... I know you said you don't have much budget available right now, but the silk plants I've seen on Amazon and in pet stores range from about $7 - $15 (for example: a 2pack of biorb silk plants, great quality, highly recommend) so you definitely can buy one, then add another later on, and another, until you have enough for the tank not to be so empty (bettas are very stressed when having too much open water, they feel exposed. They need a PLANT JUNGLE).

Here's some Silk Plant options I would recommend (obviously you don't need to get ALL of them, but just pick which ones you like from this list here which I fully approve of as generally betta-friendly):

It's a Mandrake... so it has leaves on its head and is usually found in a pot. It has beige and wrinkly skin so having clothes with ruching and pleats will work best.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll try rotating the rug, and I like the idea of the accent chairs. The three things on the coffee table are actually little fake succulents like the ones here. You're right about them taking up functional space on the coffee table, and a centerpiece might look better.
The ones below are pretty good. The potted ones are pretty realistic, while some of the unpotted plants look a bit face when you're up close. I kinda mixed and matched until it passed for real.
If none of these do it for you, I'm sure Amazon will make suggestions along those lines.
