>Use a heavy roll of gaffer's tape as a cup holder.
Gaffer's tape is fucking expensive. Like $20.00 - $30.00 a roll expensive. Why not just buy additional cup-holders for $4.00 a piece?
>I’ve got another friend who sleeves literally every game he owns as he’s very much a collector as well as player. He’s a super nice dude, and when I first started playing with him, he would politely ask everyone to wash their hands after eating. He would explain that it’s because he’s a collector and likes to keep his games like new. If your friends are respectful people, they will not have an issue with you requesting to keep your games pristine.
Sounds a lot like me. I have a lot of old, expensive to replace games so I sleeve everything out of habit and because Mayday sleeves are so cheap. Sure, they may not be 100% consistent, but I would rather protect my games than risk them getting damaged by a spill, and nobody in my group is competitive enough to try and cheat with uneven sleeves.
I also have invested in wide bottom cup holders like these which makes the likelihood of a spill far less because you cannot knock them over.
Consider that a solid percentage (iirc when I did the research it was 3-5%) of the economy revolves around automobiles. I'm talking about numbers of Americans who rely on the automobile industry to put food on their table. Every mile you commute with a bike, you effectively take potential profit from auto manufacturers, the petroleum industry, auto body shops, mechanics, tire shops, Jiffy Lubes, Autozones, insurance companies, the construction companies contracted to repair roads, engineers who design roads, Pilot Automotive: the maker of the french fry cup holder, TruckNutz - The Ultimate Truck Accessory™ etc. etc. Why do you hate America? Why do you hate business? Are you a commie pinko longhair?
thanks, but my dad bought 2 of these for his and mine. It has adhesive and sticks to the tray where the front cupholders are. Very solid solution.

No sense in re-inventing the wheel.
I can't be the only one who remembers these bad boys
Sturdy, compatible with 99.9% of vehicles, holds 16oz bottles, 44oz big gulps, and every thing in-between.
There will never be a more successful aftermarket cup holder.
Pretty much just bought some foam/cupholders on amazon and thanks

Darice 2mm Foamie Roll, 36-Inch... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007MQMXWS?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
I got one of these and attached it to the passenger side of the center console
I use an adapter
Thanks! We had a lot of fun building it, and even more fun using!
I don't remember the exact play area size, but the table top itself is exactly 4' x 6', and the rail is about 5" wide. That makes it about 3' 2" x 5' 2".
I can double check for you when I get home.
As for the cup holders, those can be had here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EDQR4G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For wood, I just got the cheapest 4'x7' sheeted plywood I could find. I think it was 3/4" thick.
The Rail was made out of the 'select pine' they have at menards. These are pre-planed boards and are generally quite nice. These run a little bit more expensive than un-planed 2x4s and 2x6s. Also note that the pre-planed boards will be smaller than the un-planed variants.
The skirt was made from basic 2x4s and the legs were made with 4x4 posts. I would've saved a couple dollars here had I got the a longer post, but they wouldn't fit in my car so I had to get 2 8 footers instead.
I wanted to keep my design as simple and straight-forward as possible. Be sure and post some updates if you make one!
Sorry I took so long! Here it is https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000Q86IQQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493519930&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=foldable+cup+holder&dpPl=1&dpID=41NcgD3GRyL&ref=plSrch
It’s actually a 3rd party accessory, I bought it off Amazon. Here’s the link for anybody interested!
BottlePro
Mine came with something like this, although mine is a bit nicer I think. Previous owner put it in i guess .

I use it every for a travel coffee mug and fold it flat when a passenger gets in. It's attached to the bottom of the plastic console lip where the passengers left knee would be
I literally bought the same car on Saturday and am loving it. The eyesight has made my commute something to look forward to.
As for add ons, I'm keeping it simple at first and ordered cup holder inserts with orange trim off Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/Custom-Holder-Accessories-Impreza-Crosstrek/dp/B078NZ28YQ
Did you name him yet? My guy is Otto

They are actually folding marine-style cupholders I got off amazon. they work GREAT - and fold out of the way when you don't need them :)
The ones I'm using are https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Q86IQQ/ -- but there are lots of similar ones there too...

They have them on amazon. I can get the link. They are made to fit hydro flasks
Edit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078C7J8ZB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mfzFDbA0YFT08
Never tried them but was going to get one for my trek
Those are what I have and they are wonderful. When they are folded up they aren't that noticeable. They have different colors available.

I’ve seen these and have heard the same complaint. Was going to install one but my 96 country’s mirror adjustment button is right on the front side of the console so it would block it so I decided against it.
I got this instead and it comes with a strap that I strapped it to the top of the lid and also used double sided tape. It can be move more to the right of the lid to still give you your arm rest but your passenger won’t have an arm rest. That’s the only downside.
I’ve seen the cup holder that mounts to the passenger side of the shifter but feel it interferes with the passengers leg room. There already isn’t much as it is.
Might I suggest this:

We have these cup holder heroes and used the center console rubber mat on our dash and it serves as a sun glass holder similar to someone said above... works well but you can always find something similar instead of buying this set
For those interested in what those were : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013D85V90/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I found the horn to be way too wimpy so I replaced the stock one with this PIAA pair.
I also didn't want to screw my plates straight through the front bumper or directly against the back bumper so I put on license plate brackets that I think make it look much nicer.
I took the advice from a bunch of folks on the subaruoutback.org forums and put in a new 19mm sway bar. It was a pretty easy install, but honestly I can't tell if the drive is better or it's just a placebo effect.
Then just a couple of simple quality of life things just because:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DOSEMV2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bough this one few weeks ago as it was the cheapest at that time, but there is more on both amazon and ebay - some of them are in carbon fiber or wooden wraps or with a cutout for a phone. Just search for "e39 cupholder".
For cup holders I put 2 of these in and haven't looked back. Went in super easy and have held anything and everything cup wise iv needed.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EDQR4G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Here's what I'm thinking of:
Decades ago, when Big Gulps were popular and cup holders were not, these window-mounted cup holders were on everyone's car. They'd always let a bit of soda drop down the inside of the door, if I recall... No point for them now.
Also antenna decorations are mostly a thing of the past, as few modern cars have antennae.
>One gripe I have is that the cup holders is lousy and doesn’t hold small or big bottles well
Try this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0752DZ1SB/
One web site I read
https://www.autocar.co.uk/opinion/motor-shows-la-motor-show/there-such-thing-too-many-cupholders
says that the Subaru Ascent has 19 cup holders...
Cup Holder/Pocket Liners
Found the link to it.
Got mine from amazon, best mod I ever did.
Also I can save you the trouble of visiting the link... You take a cheap cup holder from amazon and attach a suction cup. Voilà!

Check these out. I have the older version in my 3rd Gen auto transmission and leave my hydro flask 32 oz bottle in there a lot. It also fits a classic ceramic coffee mug pretty well.

Thanks. Nice upgrade for about $10. Here’s some more pics.
cup holdies
I would’ve liked to mount them a little further back and higher but that would be right in the middle of the artwork.
Link to the ones I bought.
The same ones are sold by a few companies under a few names but WM seemed the cheapest. Also comes in multiples colors!
Heres the same one at Amazon.
vent mounts are garbage across the board. and yeah, you won't find one that fits the circular style mini vents. cd player ones are good position, but i find it interferes with my shifting, autos might be ok.
I like the scorshe magic mount (amazon) for my phone holders. i have 4 or 5 of them now, oldest being 2.5 years on my dash above the right center vent on my r53, daily driven outside parking new england weather and regularly autocross and track. never had the phone fall off.
there are 2 cupholders for the mini, 1 is the "mug holder" that is metal high on the passenger center column and works well. one of the only cars that fits a full size nalgene actually. here's an amazon link, but they're cheaper at other stores like outmotoring.com or minimania.com. Also try northamericanmotoring.com and find one used in the marketplace. or fbook marketplace for a mini group.
the other cupholder is all plastic and mounts low on the column. here's an amazon link, but they're cheaper elsewhere
There's 2 armrest options as well, i like the metal one with the flip instead of slide lid, but the slide lid or "ultimate arm rest" i think it's called might offer an additional cupholder.
Like this one? (Edit: the product I'm linking to is for the storage area underneath the shifter. I haven't seen anything for the storage area under the armrest)
oh gotcha, not the image I had in my head for it.
This would also be an option: https://www.amazon.com/Custom-Accessories-91125-Black-Holder/dp/B000WEPI4M/
https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Automotive-PR-039-French-Holder/dp/B00AWY95NM
I do this. It wedges between the side of the passenger seat and the centre console. Works perfectly.
I bought this wedge cupholder and its been amazing. Its a little harder for passengers to buckle their belt in but really not that bad.
http://www.amazon.com/Custom-Accessories-91125-Black-Holder/dp/B000WEPI4M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1373517649&sr=8-1&keywords=wedge+cup+holder
How is it mounted? Flat? If so, I'd guess an adjustable cup holder that's missing the slidy parts.

If anyone is wondering, these are the cupholders I used:
http://www.amazon.com/American-Technology-CH-00100-BLK-1-MUGGER-Folding/dp/B000Q86IQQ
I was able to find them at my local Cabelas for $6.99
Less than $11 on Amazon or one of these but they are pretty expensive.
I bought this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FPXV5G/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The diameter of the cups it can accommodate is somewhat limited, but it's been the best $12 I've spent on my '96.
Driver/pssenger seat gap filler

Interior lights upgrade to LED
> Then I want to get some slide-under cupholders like these :https://www.amazon.com/Brybelly-Slide-Under-Stainless-Holder/dp/B00911UXJ2?th=1 so that people can put their drinks on the table without worrying about spills.
So I looked all over for cupholders that clip, including the ones you posted above.
The issue I ended up having was that those specific ones are very small and finding large ones like that are almost impossible. The second issue is that if they are not attached then they can easily slide out from under the topper. I bought three different clip-style cupholders that were the best I could find and all three ended up being sub-par and not practical.
I ended up using these and they are absolutely perfect. Super sturdy, large and they can be placed on the table. You can even use them with wine glasses.
Zero spills so far after more than a dozen game nights.
I couldn’t find anything like that in Wally World, so I bought this from Amazon.
Custom Accessories 91125 Black Seat Wedge Cup Holder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WEPI4M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_xgR4Ab7SYH8DD
It works pretty dang good!
These are the ones.
Rated 4 stars on Amazon!! Haha
Pilot Automotive PR-039 French Fry Holder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AWY95NM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8WQbAbBW7R785
Watched supersonic jets streak overhead while on the bridge of a nuclear-powered vessel in Baltimore harbor, during celebrations of the 200th anniversary of our national anthem.
I had Dr. Pepper and beef jerky during the performance, and screamed "hell yeah" about a dozen times.
Edit: I also once bought one of these, possibly the most American device ever: http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Automotive-PR-039-French-Holder/dp/B00AWY95NM/
Since you have an import I’m not sure what your center console looks like. If it’s the same as the US 2010, an insert is available for the open shelf below the gearshift that includes two cup holders. It’s rather shallow though, so only good for cans and small water bottles. Check it out for cheap on Amazon, so might as well give it a try.

I'm sorry, I've only used the stock one, and its the perfect size for my phone too. I used to know a guy who had something like this one and he said it worked fine in his R50, but that was several years ago.
If you're driving an LX:
Sport/LX:
I use one of these next to my bed since we don't have room for a bedside table. Works like a charm as a shelf
I bought a thing on amazon that adds 2 more cup holders and a storage place.

So useful in my old e39,
works pretty well with the interior too.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Frost-King-0-75-in-x-10-ft-Black-Closed-Cell-Foam-Window-Weatherstrip/3062421
Works great
I have a 2012 like 200i and I use one of these on the floorboards between my feet. I currently use some of that no-slip carpet grippy stuff to hold it in place, but I also use my feel to hold it.
I plan to install some heavy duty Velcro this summer.
So far I have used it for the 30 oz starbucks cold cups which has been very successful except for once when the cup flew out on a weirdly banked corner.

I was about to buy the IL console, then I found an old post from this forum recommending this instead. It costs $8.
Arrived last week, and I've been using it ever since. Works great, looks pretty good, and I like the $292 discount.
This is the one I have, used the same one on my Audi and it lasted 2 years no problem. I took the screw out of the map netting and reused the same screw and hole for the cup holder turned out nice. It's on tight with only one screw in it

It's still $300 for cupholders. Not only that, they look like the cupholders from a mid 90's Pontiac. Two permanent bulges right next to the shifter.
Don't kid yourself, nobody is buying that monstrosity for the longer glove compartment. It's all for the cupholders.
Here's an infinitely better option. It's even adjustable so it doesn't just hold 12oz cans:
