You absolutely did the right thing. Because my babies were both premature I had a little more ‘sway’ or whatever and people still tried to make me feel bad about making them wash/sanitize their hands and not kiss them when they were just days out of the NICU. I just ignored them. You know you’re right, just keep following your gut. No matter how much other people “love” your baby, you and baby’s dad are the only two who have that deep-seated gut feeling of needing to protect the baby. You’ll get pressure from all around, especially as a new mom but you will always be the ones with the most vested interest in making the right hooches for baby. It’s just the way it is when you’re a parent. (Same would go for adoptive parents etc, it’s just only parents really get how that little baby completely relies on them for safety and security). When we become or choose to become parents it just hits you. Keep up the great work.

Oh and as a helpful tip, since you’ve got a new baby during heavy cold and flu season, and are likely to have to go in public over the next few months, get a little sign for your stroller and/or car seat that tells people not to touch baby. You’d be surprised at the amount of well-meaning strangers who want to kiss, touch etc your baby at the grocery store etc. The little signs I had made it so much less awkward.

I’ll try to find one like I had an post a link, they were life-savers for us with itty bitty preemies ( one that was born at this time of year especially).

Amazon has them and some cute car seat covers now which would be handy if it gets cool where you’re located.

I couldn’t find one like I had but because of where I lived having a high rate of illiteracy (deep in Cajun country where older people spoke French but little English) mine looked like an actual stop sign. I know that might seem overkill but many in my husbands close extended family (aunts, uncles, etc) understood what it meant without being able to actually read it.

:( That does sound hectic. My registry is kinda all over the place because I've already bought a ton of stuff, but just some suggestions of some things (FTM so no idea really if these are good or not, some were recommendations from friends, some were recommendations from various online resources).

  • car seat, extra base if you have more than one car, and stroller
  • baby carrier - I got the ergobaby 360 with infant insert but the Lillebaby 360 is also super popular.
  • swaddles - aden & anais seem to be hugely popular.
  • bathing supplies - washcloths, bathtub
  • first aid kit supplies - NoseFrida, nail clipper, thermometer
  • feeding - bottles, sterilizer (some people told me I had to have it, some said it was totally unnecessary), bottle cleaner brush, drying rack (seems like everyone else loves the Boon grass, but I don't have the counter space!) You can get a pump through your insurance if you plan to breastfeed, I ordered mine through Aeroflow. I ultimately chose the Spectra S2 over the Medela PISA because it's a closed system, which apparently means less chances of bacteria getting into the system and thus easier cleaning.
  • burp clothes - I was told to just get a ton of cloth diapers to use as burp clothes, and to have them everywhere.
  • diaper pail - I have two friends who say this is good enough, so I went with it. They also said to use doggie poop bags to contain the smelly diapers.
  • humidifier
  • Boppy for nursing
  • Backpack style diaper bag
  • baby may need a more convenient place to be set down other than the crib, something you can have near you in the kitchen, shower, whatever. Popular options are the rock n play, Boppy lounger, or a pack 'n play. I plan on getting the Chicco FastAsleep pack 'n play because the crib/dresser/changing station is on our 2nd floor, so I figured this could double as a changing station/napper on the first floor.

Lucie's List is probably the best resource I found online.

We love this bag! (I’m the mom 😊). It has a place for a camelback bladder and tons of storage. My husband carries all the climbing gear and I carry Sammy and all the baby gear.

This travel pod had been great with my 2 year old; she’s still in her crib at home. We set it up at home and let her get used to it, and then no problems putting her in it at bedtime in hotel rooms. So far, she hasn’t figured out how to undo the zippers :)

I can’t help with 2, 3, or 4, but for grocery shopping I have one of those car seats that snaps into a stroller, so I put LO in the stroller and throw my groceries into the bottom portion of the stroller (where the diaper bag would normally go). I can’t make huge grocery shopping trips, but I’ve been able to pick up a few things this way!

One of my friends also purchased this insert on amazon that she puts into shopping carts to help her LO sit up. I plan on buying one as soon as my LO outgrows his car seat!

Do not get a Bjorn. They aren't comfortable. Get something like this which has much better support.

Like a hiking backpack. That's our plan when baby is a toddler and walking but still not big enough to do long walks/hikes/shopping trips. Distributes the extra weight of a bigger kid much more comfortably.

I love my Britax.

At the zoo I notice this one the most. I'm debating on trying it out because it has a hood, storage and better looking neck support method.

Hi mama!

You may have seen my post asking for advice/experiences regarding this. My LO was born 12/17 via c-section because he was footling breech. The hospital pediatrician detected a “clunk” in his left hip , which was confirmed by the orthopedist on 12/19. The orthopedist talked about the plan that day and told us about the pavlik, but said to wait 2 weeks to set up an appointment — he said he wanted feeding to get established and the baby to get back to birthweight, I think he may have felt bad for us because it was right before Christmas :)

On 12/27 we saw the orthopedist who did a quick in office ultrasound to look at the depth of the socket and the angle, and put him in the pavlik harness. He wore it 24 hours/day for 3 weeks, had an ultrasound which showed good progress so now we do 23 hours/day x 8 weeks, and then bedtime x 4 weeks.

I was absolutely devastated when he put the harness on — I bawled in the office, I cried at home when I’d look at the baby, I quietly cried at night when I nursed him. The first time we took him out of the harness for a bath and some skin to skin I cried for like an hour. Now I’m crying just thinking back on those emotions, but it gets better mama and I don’t cry everyday of whenever I look at the baby.

People don’t understand or know what to say to you. Everyone is like “Oh, that’s not too bad” or “It’ll be over before you know it” or “He won’t even remember it.” While all those things may be true, they don’t understand how gypped you feel because this isn’t what you imagined — holding your baby, cuddling your baby, feeding your baby is different and harder and no one understands that.

Tips & Product Recommendations:
We put a plain white, short sleeve onesie under his harness to protect his skin from chafing and to help keep the harness cleaner.

We use these wipes on non bath days.

We had to size up on diapers early because the tabs were longer on size 1 and easier to thread through the harness. FWIW Luvs diapers have longer tabs but we couldn’t stand the smell so we use swaddlers.

I use the Boba carrier. It doesn’t require an infant insert (which you obviously couldn’t use anyways) — there is a little built in pillow that you use from 7-15 pounds. I pretty much exclusively wear him when we go out so that people can’t get in his face (flu season, gotta protect yourself!), but I did buy the bassinet attachment for our stroller for walks since his car seat obviously affects the harness and hip positioning.

We bought the Graco Dreamglider seat & sleeper. It goes completely flat, is wide enough to accommodate the harness, and doesn’t push on his hips or legs or anything.

RIP all your sweaters — that Velcro sticks to everything and destroys it 😂

Feel free to PM me.

Forgive my abysmal linking, I'm on mobile. This thing is way easier to use than I thought it would be; all I did here was drop the baby in, get him latched, yank on the tail a few times and "oh, hey...I can just...let go? OH FUCK YEAH!"

It should really be pulled down over my opposite shoulder to distribute the weight better, I've since learned.

I have used the moby and ergo. I love the moby for when they are still very little (like the first 4 months). I wouldn't say it's easy though, there is a learning curve with the scarf and there were a lot of things I didn't like about it. Because it wasn't so easy to put on and off many times I ended up wearing her for longer than I wanted to because I didn't want to deal with taking her in and out (like when I went to the bathroom). No one else was able to really carry her, I put it on my husband a few times but it's not an easy thing. I don't know if I just never got that good at it, but it take a few minutes to put on and because it's super long if you are out some where pieces of it are on the floor while putting it together. However, once it was on I loved it. I was able to nurse very easily in it, baby felt super secure and snug, and it was really comfortable.

The ergo, you need to use the insert for the first 2-3 months. I found the insert to be a bit annoying, but it was easy to take on and off. I've heard instead of the insert you can use a receiving blanket as well. My son is 12 months old and we still use it. it's just two clicks so it's simple to put on and off (even my bachelor brother put it on with no issues), baby has a nice M position with it's leg, and I like the cover it has for when you're nursing or baby is sleeping. I found it hard to nurse with the ergo, but from watching a lot of Youtube videos about it I found there could be a big learning curve to it. I am not a regular baby wearer, so maybe I just never did it enough to get very good at it. I was able to do it, it just wasn't as easy as the Moby. Now that my son is older he likes to be worn on the back which is fun. I haven't figured out how to get baby to be worn on the back by myself though. I don't know if baby has to be older, but for us it's a 2 person job.

It's just an off brand wrap but I don't want to get an expensive one and not like it..

u/dailysunshineKO · 2 pointsr/breakingmom

I love it. I currently use it in our living room so I dont have to go upstairs for my 4 month old and my toddler all day. It’s also great when traveling (hotels, grandparents house). The side pockets don’t hold a ton but it’ll easily fit diapers, wipes, diaper cream, and doggy-poo bags. Maybe a disposable puppy-pee pad. Amazon has them.

I either carry my daughter in a baby carrier (did with my first as well!), or you can get a grocery cart cover and put them in the child seat in the cart. I have one for my daughter and it came with a little pillow support thing for behind her back so she sits up nice and snuggly in the cart.

Here is the link to the cart cover that I have.

We've got two of these tents for my guys and have used them since about that age and they still fit in them at 21 months and likely will for quite some time longer. I preferred them over pack and plays just because they were easier to haul around. It wasn't hard to train them to sleep in them, we just did a few naps in the cribs in them before the trips and they're good to go.

Which one is the airflow? I've been looking at getting the Lillebaby Airflow, but all the different options on Amazon are confusing.

I was of the understanding that the Complete All Season and Airflow are two different things, and the only one I can find under prime deals is this one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R6XER5I/ref=gbps_img_s-3_1712_896b160d?pf_rd_p=d3152026-148f-4b24-a686-6518d33b1712&pf_rd_s=slot-3&pf_rd_t=701&pf_rd_i=gb_main&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=7WKNE588EJE1NADS7V11&th=1

it's the lillebaby that allows for 6 different carrying positions. some patterns are now on clearance, the lowest price is $89.99. https://www.amazon.com/SIX-Position-Ergonomic-Child-Carrier-LILLEbaby/dp/B00R6XEN98/?th=1

u/oh_ya_you_betcha · 1 pointr/babywearing

Are you using an Ergo infant insert? I used this one
https://www.amazon.com/Ergobaby-Easy-Infant-Insert-Natural/dp/B01ET1L3G0%3Fpsc%3D1%26SubscriptionId%3DAKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q%26tag%3Dduckduckgo-iphone-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB01ET1L33I?th=1&psc=1

And I liked it a lot. It held her in place really well and supported her head. After she grew out of the insert, I'm still using the butt pillow at 4 months.

u/Runningwithtoast · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

Sounds like you've got that covered!

If you bike, you may want a baby helmet or bike trailer or baby seat, though they're not recommended for use until age 1 because of concerns about repeated head trauma. It may be nice to get ahead, though. For time at the lake while you guys are prepping the boat, cooking, etc, maybe an activity center? https://www.amazon.com/KidCo-Portable-Activity-Station-Pistachio/dp/B00477ND0Q

My husband and I looked at a few different travel beds, but liked these two the most:

The KidCo Peapod also has a Plus version, which I think was a bit less sturdy but went to age 5, if I remember correctly.

I have this one and I LOVE it. It has gotten so much use. It is about $35, so its not a huge investment, but I know I've definitely gotten my moneys worth. My favorite things about ring slings:

  1. PORTABILITY: it is the size of a baby kitten, so it fits easily in any diaper bag or glove compartment

  2. LONGEVITY: it can be used for any size child (that you can physically carry). I used it when my baby was <6lbs and plan to continue using it when she is 30+lbs

  3. NURSE-ABILITY: it is super easy to nurse in and be discrete about too! Just loosen it a bit, throw the tail over LO's head and let them go to town

  4. SHARE-ABILTY: you dont need a different size for each caregiver

The only things that I dont like about it is that it can be hard on your back if you wear it for long periods and baby cant really look around which might make them squimy when they are bigger. It it a really good carrier to have for out and about (like you are grocery shopping or at a restaurant or at the beach) and makes it SO easy to nurse on the go, but I would not want to go on a hike with it.

The snaps in the front are snapped closed and it says “narrow seat 8-15lb” and when the snaps come apart it says “wide seat 15-32lb”

My Brestfriend nursing pillow (I only used it for a couple weeks, but it was awesome for learning how to latch, and I used it like a table so I could walk around with my son on it without disturbing his latch when we were first learning)

My wrap carrier (we just registered for a cheap one off of Amazon.)

This. We use it as his bassinet and it's where he does the majority of his snoozing if he's not in bed with me.

Hello! Thanks for the cute contest and congrats on your baby.

I have two little men, Monster #1 is 4 years old and an avid gamer. Which is great, because mommy and daddy are gamers too. Monster #2 is 2 years old and enjoys cuddles and acting like he has all the energy in the world. I swear, #2 never rests. Never.

They are just like mommy and daddy in their interests, thought. #1 loves gaming (both), #2 loves drawing and crafting (mommy), and they both love reading (well being read to) and learning.

I have a list just for them on the left of my main wishlist and I know that they would love a new Pete the Cat book.

Birth advice- get the drugs. Omg. Get the drugs. You think you can make it, and you try to make it, but once you get up there, it hurts so bad. If you don't get the drugs, good for you and I wish you the best of luck. But remember, after 5 cm, they can't give you the drugs.

Newborn advice- hold that baby as much as you want, don't let anyone tell you that you will spoil it. Because one day that baby will not want to be held anymore. They will push you away and reject your kisses. Cherish each and every stage.

Something cute for your nursery. Well, not really for your nursery, but it was a life saver when my kids were smaller. Baby carrier.

Biggest suggestion...stay in either Osaka or Kyoto and do trips from there to the other one. Switching hotels is pain, even more of a pain with a 2 yr old. Each is only about 45 mins away from each other. Take into consideration there is not a whole lot to do in Kyoto at night, which might not be a problem since you have a 2 yr old but you could also consider making Osaka home base as it has more to do at night.
I'd say two days in Osaka not one. Lots more to see than can fit into a day, especially if you go to the Aquarium as you can be in there for a long time.
For Kyoto, three days is the best starting point. Try not to cut shorter than this. Four days is nice but you could also consider a day trip to Nara. Nara is really nice and has the whole deer thing. Of course be careful as the deer are SUPER friendly...sometimes too friendly especially if nipping at a child.
Biggest tip for travelling with a young kid...get a Carrier Backpack. Something like:
https://www.amazon.com/Deluxe-Toddler-Backpack-Country-Carrier/dp/B00LH7MEMM/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1518110448&sr=8-4&keywords=backpack+child+carrier
Do not do the stroller thing. Lots of stairs, uneven ground, tight spots, etc etc.
