For serious training, adding weight to your racket is indeed a good idea. Most people buy training rackets like this though. 3x8 swings is far too few though, a typical set would be more like 20x20.

For strength training it is also possible to use ankle weights, but be careful - due to the many jumps and fast changes of directions of regular badminton already, this can lead to injuries. Consult your doctor and make sure to do plenty of strength and core training before you attempt this.

(I'm coming from /r/badminton to answer the serious questions here - and this one. Badminton is a great way to apply your speed and strength!)

I would rent one of the many awesome chalets in Quebec and disappear off the grid for an entire month with my hubby (/u/miketava) and the dog.

We could eat hot dogs and salads and smores and drink cheap beer.

We could spend our days outside and maybe go fishing for a couple dinners.

We'd bring some exercise equipment and get tanned (and probably mosquito bitten a la max),

We'd read, write, draw, play card games and board games. We'd lie around and do nothing. We'd go lay on the edge of a lake, we'd skip rocks on the water. We'd have a freaking blast!

On one or more of the weekends, we'd have either family or friends over to party a little and take advantage of the few summer months we have here.

$2500 would be more than enough for that (considering we'd buy food at home for the month regardless!!!)

I'd bring this because I love badminton and it would be a good way to get active while having fun!

and a couple of these because mosquitos love me and eat me alive.

aaaaaaaaand a pair of these - don't hate. They're comfy, waterproof and washable. Perfect for a month in the wilderness! :D

The rest would be the basics:

  • Food
  • Clothes
  • Cards/games
  • Dog stuff
  • Toiletries
  • Books
  • Paper and writing utensils
  • Beer/booze

Now I want to do this! Unfortunately, we're not having a vacation this year since we're trying to save up for the wedding next year...

    Thanks for the contest! <3

The Senston N80 rackets on Amazon are a pretty great value imo. They're not $20 heavy steel trash like you'd find in a local store. I got two for guests and I end up playing with it a lot over my $100 Yonex Voltric 7. I like the lighter head sometimes.

Personally, the first place I always check is Amazon purely because of the free shipping and often cheaper price. You do have to be careful because some listings are counterfeit but Amazon is very good with returns and will always choose the customer over the seller. I just checked the Yonex Nanoray 10F listing here and it's legitimate: https://www.amazon.com/Yonex-Badminton-Pre-strung-Half-length-NR10F-RED/dp/B06WWLXG17/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

You can also check out badminton warehouse but I haven't personally used them to purchase a racket so I can't attest to them.

This APACS Virtuoso Light racket is cheap and good in my opinion. Good for dropshots and clearing shuttles from the back of the court.

I recently bought this one from amazon. It's labeled as a Kuanyu, but I believe it is the same piece sold by Eagnas as the PP600.

Not a bad deal. It's very strong and leaves marks on my gut string even when using it gently. But that's fine with me.
