No you need a specialized tool
I haven’t handled any of these, but am familiar with the brands. I’ve never used a a Kai so I just don’t know about the quality.
Opinel Le Petit
Opines are pretty decent knives and I think this would be a good option for the younger kids. Really like the knife guard so they can hold vegetables without their hands by the blade.
Herder Kids Chef
Herders are great. Really thin ground so they won’t require a lot of effort to cut. They’ll go as sharp as you want.
Sakai Takayuki
I’ve seen these in person and they are very cool. Not sure they’re worth the up charge from the other options. Seisuke in Portland carries them so I’ll probably buy them for my kids because I want to support them.
I've been wanting to get this nice knife for my 4yr daughter..maybe when she's 5+ since it's expensive and a real knife! Oh look , it's on actual sale ...one-click buy :) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GT57LWK/ref=asc_df_B00GT57LWK5391639/
Oh! I want to make cannoli!
Cannoli shells are actually really easy to make! Just need some cannoli forms, which are super cheap.
I got her the "Kai Little Chef Club" chef knife.
I really like the look of the Opinel Le Petite Chef Knife but it's a lot more expensive.
