No kidding. Blades for portabands are less than $6 each, his welding and alignment weren't even worth a damn (not that it matters, this was dumb in the first place).

I have the 9" Ryobi bandsaw, I'd actually argue that it's pretty useful! I bought it to cut out bodies, etc., and I picked the small saw because I have a small workshop (I mostly use hand tools). All in all I think it's a great alternative to a jigsaw.

For what it is, I think the saw does a great job. I've been able to cut out a body (1 1/2" thick maple and mahogany), and also do nice long straight cuts on mahogany and maple neck blanks. I also made a simple guide and successfully resawed some 3 1/2" wide hard maple, but that's the absolute largest it can do.

One thing I think really matters is a high quality blade and a careful setup of the bearings. I got this blade, it can't do super tight curves but does straight lines and gentle curves really well.

You should put bandsaw blades up the stem

Op, for what it's worth, at $80, you did not find the bargain of 2016. But you can still make a really nice saw out of what you have.

You can snag new tires from Amazon prime. Just look for urethane tires for a 10" saw. Brand does not matter since most of the 10" saws are basically the same.

The blade that came with mine was garbage. I have a 9" saw and bought this. You'll want the 10" version. http://www.amazon.com/Morse-ZCDB06-2-Inch-Working-Bandsaw/dp/B000EHITR0 cheap as dirt.

If you got it used its probably way out of adjustment. The instruction manual is available online, and many woodworking sites will show with pics how to tune roller guides and the guide block things.

I'm no expert myself. But I got one for free for helping a guy move some furniture. Once I had the tires, a new blade and a tune up its a wonderful little saw.

It is amazing.

This is what I'm using on mine. They seem to hold up well. Like most thing, cutting aluminum can clog them up...no issues on mild steel. Olson Saw BM82864BL BI-Metal Band Saw Blade, 1/2 by .025-Inch, 18-TPI Regular 64-1/2-Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005HPWM4U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_fAYyDb1GHWT5X

Damn that's a good deal. Before I found the Wen I was planning on getting the Rikon. I'd definitely jump on it for $200.

These are the blades I got:

AYAO Band Saw Blades 72-Inch X 3/8-Inch X 6TPI, 2-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B2Y81X2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_u1rSCb57X9ZGJ

2 for like $19.

I also got a 1/2" for resawing but haven't tried it yet.

Might need a different size for the Rikon though.
