A Vapur Incognito flask. I've used this thing loads of times and have never had a leak.

I put each bottle in a ziploc back and put it in Wineskin (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GIX51V6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_xM7kzb5KCQRBQ). I reuse the wineskin by using a packing tape to seal the bottom opening.

For my own recommendation I would say do an extract beer can kit. You'll get about 40 bottles of beer out of it.

Almost everything below you can get at your local homebrew shop. In fact, many of these items might be part of a "beer starter kit" etc. I do recommend getting the 5 gallon carboy instead of a kit with pails. You'll thank me later. pails can get messy.

  1. Coopers Brew Can Kit ($15) *comes with yeast you need
  2. A 5 gallon carboy (I recommend a big mouth plastic one) ($20)
  3. An Airlock for your carboy ($5)
  4. A 4 foot blowoff tube to attach to the airlock center column ($5)
  5. An empty 2L pop bottle to use as the blowoff container. (free)
  6. 1KG of sugar *and some more for bottling later ($2)
  7. A Hydrometer to take your Specific Gravity readings and a container for the hydrometer $25
  8. A 5 Gallon pot $30 (I highly recommend you follow the kit or use 3 gallons of water during the heating/boiling as I have done...dont try to boil 5 gallons in a 5 gallon pot)
  9. An Auto-Siphon for siphoning the beer. $13
  10. A Wine Thief for stealing the samples from your beer (which you read with the hydrometer and then drink) without disturbing the beer too much and risking infection. $13

Total $128 by my guestimates, but you do get 2 cases of beer out of it and $113 worth of brew equipment. Hell, in Ontario the two cases of beer can easily be more expensive than $128 lol... Not cheap, but everything here you will use over and over and over again (except of course the sugar and the brew kit)

    ---------------------------------

The Coopers Can Kit comes with instructions to make your beer, a hopped extract and yeast.

After you make your beer it'll be a few weeks before the fermentation is done (which you'll know by hydrometer readings)

In that time you can start getting your stuff together for bottling and carbonating them.

You'll also need (for bottling) 48 empty clean bottles (cleaned and then sanitized with star-san solution) NON TWIST OFF TYPE
    A handheld Beer capper
    Bottle caps (box)

I gotta run, but this was fun to type out. If you need any help, glad to help ya.

Looks like a dual dispenser. You turn the bottles upside down and turn the wheels to dispense.

I'd search for a Bartenders Kit - something like this - to get a good sense of what equipment you might want for the types of drinks you'll be making. I definitely wouldn't buy one of those kits because they're almost always crap, but just for reference.

Basics that I have in my bar are:

  • mixing tins (I like the full-metal ones, others prefer the Boston Shakers w/ the glass)
  • a stainless bar strainer
  • a layering spoon/tool (yes, I have the turtle)
  • a long cocktail spoon for stirring drinks
  • some cocktail rimmers for rimming margaritas, lemon drops, etc.
  • some jiggers for your higher-end stuff and pour-spouts for the basic stuff
  • and a wine key + decanter + aerator if you're into wine (plus a vacuum pump for bottles you don't finish off right away).

I just included the links for reference - you'll probably want to search a little for the highest-quality tools, because you really don't want flimsy stuff.

For glassware, I like to just pick out unique stuff that I find in my travels, but I have all the basics - rocks glasses, highball glasses, long-stem martini glasses, margarita glasses, pint glasses, Guinness glasses, a couple of snifters, and a Chimay glass.

For the booze it's kind of up to you, but just think about what liquor types a bar has in its speed-well for your base, and then just add higher-end, unique stuff from there. I always have a nice vodka, rum, tequila, gin, bourbon, irish whiskey, cognac, and brandy in the cabinet.

Then I have the popular mixers/liquers - Grand Marnier (skip the Triple Sec and get the good stuff), Bailey's, Kahlua, Amaretto, Limoncello, Frangelico, Chambord, White/Dark Creme de Cacao, Blue Curacao, Sweet/Dry Vermouth, sour mix and simple syrup, soda + tonic, juices, Fireball, various Schnapps, etc.

And then from there I just gradually collect bottles of high-end stuff that will get sipped slowly and dress the bar up a bit. Just picked up a bottle of Kraken that has one of the cooler labels I've ever seen (and tastes pretty damn good, too).

    Have fun!

Security is meh for the most part. No metal detectors or drug dogs at the gates or anything like that. They do pat you down, but the severity of that depends on who's doing the patdown. They hire out a third party security to do it, not like the Chicago police, so the security is people who aren't getting paid enough to give a shit. Try to eye ahead and see which people are patting down the hardest and avoid those lines.

Keep an eye on this subreddit and people should post about security as the festival progresses.

As for a flask, that shouldn't be an issue. Last year, my friends and I bought collapsible plastic flasks, filled them up, and stuck em in the freezer the night before. Then just took some string and tied the flask around our inner thigh/gooch and walked right in. We then went to the bathroom, took it out, and put it in our camelbak packs.

Here's a link to those:

6.5gal plastic fermentor - $17.88 (Don't bother with glass fermentors!)

6.5gal Bottling Bucket - $18.81

Hydrometer - $12.99

3 3-piece airlocks - $5.00 - trust me, they'll break.

stopper not needed with plastic fermentor

Bottle filler - $5.09

10 ft 3/8th inch tubing - $10.99

Auto siphon - $8.76

don't need a bottle brush with plastic fermentor

144 bottle caps - $5.78

Use any pure sugar for priming - just calculate it right. I use cane sugar without issue.

Wing bottle capper - $15.48

Dial thermometer not really needed if you're slapping on an adhesive one, but definitely get this for a hot liquor tun if you're doing that.

Wine thief - $11.20

I never used a funnel or fermentor brush - you can use anything to clean but I suggest Oxyclean rinses

32oz Star San - $20.70

Adhesive Thermometer - $4.84

Total Cost: $137.52. Not ridiculous savings BUT you get 32oz of star san instead of 4oz of io-star which will last you years and sanitizer is expensive. You get a plastic fermentor instead of glass which is so much easier to clean and keep light out. Glass carboys are good for aging and aging is good for wine or special beers. Focus on simple ales that don't require it first.

The real savings come when you do all grain and make your own equipment. You can save $137 alone if you buy a big stainless steel pot and slap on a dial thermometer with a ball valve.

Get your booze before the end of the 7th, after which they cut off all alcohol sales.

Or get a some Shark Skinz disposable flasks (https://www.amazon.com/Original-Disposable-Flask-Black-Funnel/dp/B008DGGW3C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1500569220&sr=8-3&keywords=Shark+skinzz) and keep drinking after the 7th.

(Just don't get the silver ones...I've heard from others that the silver ones go off in a metal detector because of the coating on the outside while the black ones don't).

u/Ondskapt666 · 3 pointsr/DebateFascism

I've read some of these books before I bought them, some I already finished and the rest are on my list to read. My problem is that I read 10 books at once. I'll read a couple of chapters and/or half a book and then switch it up. My mind is strange like that. I don't why I do it but it just works.

I'm collecting books to have in my library one day. Wishful thinking, I know! My bookshelf is packed and the remaining books are now collecting on my desk and comic book short boxes.

There is this image I've always had of myself in a room like this or that. Some guys want the big bar (I would love to have this mini bar and whiskey set), big screen tv, and football memorabilia. I rather have the silence, in solitude, next to a fire, book in hand.

Remember, it's not hoarding if it's books. ;)

u/pm2501 · 3 pointsr/Homebrewing

Of the four things, only the first and third are functional on their own, but here you go...

  1. Wine thief. This is used to pull wort and beer out of your fermentor to check the specific gravity
  2. Racking cane. This needs an auto siphon, but without knowing the diameter of that cane, I couldn't say what size of siphon to get.
  3. You'd think this was a siphon, but it looks more like another type of wine thief
  4. Hydrometer test jar... Needs a hydrometer

In the cold you can sneak anything in, just wear your full outdoor gear bibs, pants, jacket, get all puffy. They won't find a thing. No metal though. If you want a surefire way order plastic bag flasks on Amazon..

u/hwillis · 3 pointsr/robotics

You can use the dispensers from these coupled with servos like this project. You can also use solenoid valves, but be aware they need a minimum head pressure to work.

If I built a machine like this, I wouldn't use valves on the liquid path. I'd use an air pump, preferably peristaltic to pressurize the bottles as needed and use a siphon to dispense liquid. If you use air pressure you will always get a relatively consistent amount of liquid without needing to measure it. The pump gets a very large mechanical advantage due to the area ratio of the siphon and bottle, so the liquid pressure won't change how much air gets pumped in a given amount of time.

If you just use the pressure of the liquid in the bottle, the pouring pressure and therefor flow rate will drop as the bottle empties. You can use a flow rate sensor, but there's no guarantee on food safety.

I've heard of kits like this for stubborn ones. Naturally you could never get the the lifter off the label, but it's better than nothing.

u/jleviathon · 2 pointsr/ElectricForest

The alcohol will dry out the seals in the connections. Every time I've put alcohol in a pack it leaks shortly after and if you spent good money on it you'll be upset. My solution since I feel your pain is to get some of these and one of these and just fill the pouches with booze and buy a soda when inside the venue. And BAM! Your very own Jack and coke with no fuss!

Keep taste testing every few days, and get it to where you like the taste. I usually leave it alone for 3-5, and then start tasting. Usually every other day or every 3 days after that, depending on the size of the batch, but when it gets closer, I start tasting every day (around the same time of day, so it's a full 24 hours later). After a few batches you'll get the rhythm of when to test and when to leave it.

I grabbed a couple of glass straws (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZEL23HS/) for stealing only a small amount for tasting. I found that a wine thief took too much liquid out of my smaller batches when I pushed it down in below the super-SCOBY rich layer near the top. Those glass straws are wide (hold a decent amount), easy to use, and reusable -- instead of throwing away disposable plastic straws all the time.

But thieves (https://www.amazon.com/Fermtech-Wine-Beer-Thief-Long/dp/B00BTMWXC6/) are great for larger vessel batches, and getting way down, below the top layers.

u/michaelcuz · 2 pointsr/winemaking

2 ways:
If the bottle is empty and you want to keep it, use this to lift the label Label Lift

If the bottle has wine, do NOT use warm liquid as it has the potential to spoil the wine. Instead, use a razor scraper to scrape off the label. Then use a solution of water/dish soap with a metal scrubber to remove remaining residue. Use this method to "shine" the bottle for DIY and other relabeling projects.

My boyfriend and all our guy friends just buy plastic flasks on amazon, fill those up, and hide them in their crotch. Works every time cause the flask is soft so it doesn't feel odd if security feels you up. That kit in your edit looks pretty darn good to me. Bonus for including a hydrometer. I'd probably get that considering the price point (the buckets, capper, and siphon alone make it worth the price). I'm not sure about Idophor, but Starsan can be

Idophor does not foam but take a couple minutes to sanitize. Star san santinizes in 30 seconds and foams quite heavily. The foam isn't harmful and does not need to be rinsed.

The only real advantage of having a car boy is the fact that you can scrub it with an abrasive. It MAY be nice to see where your krausen levels are to determine whether you need a blowoff tube or not, but there's no harm in opening a fermentation bucket just a tad for a little peek.

Yes, you'd basically need two of everything for sours (or at least, everything that touches the beer/wort after it has been infected with the souring bugs).

edit: I just noticed the kit doesn't include a hydrometer test jar or thief to use for hydrometer testing. Not being able to measure gravity will not prevent you from brewing, but it does allow you to; calculate ABV, control ABV pre-fermentation, and identify if problems have occurred during the brewing process.

u/drfish · 2 pointsr/Coachella

http://www.amazon.com/The-Original-Disposable-Flask-Black/dp/B008DGGW3C these plus the brief would help you avoid the hard flask aspect. I have tried a number of methods. These label removers work the best. http://www.amazon.com/Oenophilia-Label-Lift-50-Pack/dp/B003Z9AUCQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427824815&sr=8-1&keywords=wine+label+remover

You have to be careful to get the sticker on without any air gaps and I usually leave them on for a few days and rub them with the back of a spoon numerous times over the course of those few days.

u/SkidMk · 2 pointsr/Survival

I snagged a few of these a while ago for smuggling booze into concerts. They clean out pretty easily and can be reused. They're durable enough if you don't abuse them.

u/SlowCarbSnacktime · 2 pointsr/wine

I have these and I kind of love 'em. You just keep them in the freezer and then put it in your wine glass.

I was also gifted a corksicle a while back. That thing is terrible, do not waste your money.

u/BrandonRushing · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

I use this one and have been for the last 3+ years. It leaks a few drops when pulled out of the carboy, but it's nothing that I worry about. Length-wise, when I have 5.5G in a 7G carboy, I do need to dip the thief in the carboy twice to fill up a hydrometer tube.

An auto-siphon will work decently as well. I've found when I tilt my auto-siphon to pour the sample into a cup to taste a sample, I get quite a few drops from the base. Your mileage may vary.

These flasks are great for sneaking on liquor, just fold them into your pants in your suitcase. Then you can buy a soda card and mix drinks in your room. You can also order virgin drinks for half the price of alcoholic drinks and add your own alcohol. Most cruise lines let you carry on one bottle of wine per guest.

Don't book excursions through carnival, they are always overpriced. Just do a little research about your ports and you can find lots of fun things to do. A lot of times you can find similar tours for much cheaper.

They will try to sell you a bunch of stuff the first day. It's worth it to drop by the spa because they often do raffles on the first day where you can win a free spa treatment. Stay away from the gym, they will likely be trying to sell you some miracle herbal supplement.

Another extremely sneaky frugal thing I do is bring sandwich bags - I'll fill them with a sandwich or fruit or granola at breakfast to have a free snack/lunch later when you're off the ship. Eat large breakfasts so you don't have to spend too much money in port. Snag an apple or banana for later when you're at breakfast.

Remember that they are constantly trying to sell you stuff - duty free perfumes, cheesy portraits, "fine art", excursions, spa treatments...so it might be best to set a budget beforehand and decide which things you want to spend money on.

Pretty easy actually. I don't believe there's a limit (Though CBP limits you to 1-liter of duty-free alcohol). But as long as you're just bringing a few bottles and not a case you should be fine

I highly recommend getting some of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GIX51V6/

When the countdown to the new year is happening have someone switch main breaker power off as soon as the countdown reaches one. My aunt had my brother do this during our Y2K new year countdown, it was hilarious. For decorations you could use floppy disk coasters .

  • Rye - Bulliet
  • Vodka - Stoli or Titos
  • Gin - Junipero
  • Tequila - Espalon
  • <$20 red wine - Coppola Claret / Louis Martini cab / fuck, even j lhor.
  • beer - no ciders. IPA's are a safe bet along with some good local brews

    Sorry not sorry for last night's drunken break down but you really need to step your alcohol game up. People judge on that shit. All the bottles I listed are under $25 at my local liquor store. And do more than just mixers Get yourself a cocktail shaker, a jigger and a mudler and learn to make some drinks. It's really not that hard and people will be impressed as fuck. Want to take it a step further? Get one of these bad fuckers and some nice glassware. bar glassware shouldn't be optional and you can pick up some nice stemware for cheap. Go get some big ice cub silicon molds and fill with filtered water. Use those in place of ice cubes. It's all about perception. If a girl were to come over and you made her a nice drink with a beautiful presentation, she'd be blown away vs the banal rum and coke. One I like;

  • muddle basil and 2 pcs of cucumber with a pinch of kosher salt
  • 1.5 oz silver tequila
  • 1 oz simple syrup (sugar water
  • .5 oz lime juice.

Give that a good shake and strain over a cube/burg. Garnish with cucumber wheel and basil sprig. I cook a lot so I have both ingredients on hand frequently.

Alcohol should have expression. Don't buy shit to pander to people, buy what you like. If you really really like new amsterdam and jose cuervo then fine do you but spend a few extra $$ and show that you really care. For the record, cuervo gold is just cuervo silver with additives.

You can be a lot more subtle with a hipflask

Look up Wineskin bags. Available on Amazon and also at the Container Store. They will hold most narrower 750mL bottles (like Sazerac or Old Overholt) but not chunky ones like Makers Mark or 1.75mL bottles.

I then roll the Wineskin bag in a pair of pants, and put it toward the bottom of the luggage.

Keep in mind checked luggage weight restrictions; 6 bottles is likely to get heavy.

Honestly if I'm doing anything more rugged than car camping, I just bring a flask.

These are good for backpacking, lightweight and they collapse.

This one is great, it holds quite a bit more than your standard 8oz flask. And the blue cap pops off to act as a kind of cup. I guess it doesn't help a lot if you're trying to drink with more than one person. Bonus points it will fit in your sock and get past metal detectors ;)

Otherwise maybe just go with some of those disposable shot glasses you can get for parties? I have a pack that I've brought along if a lot of people might want to take little tasters of. Like this
