Acne face wash: sulfur soap!

My dermatologist recommended this when I was struggling with acne, along with a bunch of prescribed gels and pills... I later stopped using all the prescriptions and just used the soap, and it worked!

It seems weird since it's just a bar of soap, but it ends up being SO cheap. One $20 pack lasted me about 3 years! I buy those cheap plastic soap travel cases to keep them in for easy transport.

Avid wet shaver here. So if you are considering wet shaving, allow me to indulge you for a second. There's a lot of perks when it comes to wet shaving.

  • It's relaxing
  • It's cheaper/less maintenance
  • There's lots o' smells and combinations

Sure there's a lot of razors out there, but it's mostly about finding one that you like or find appealing. Does it feel better when the razor is heavy? When it's light? Do you want it to made from plated gold or just chrome? It's about finding one that suits you.

I've been using this bad boy for the last 3 years and it's given me remarkable shaves. Theres a knob on the bottom that allows you to adjust how much of the blade is exposed, so on sensitive areas (like my neck) I can adjust the blade to glide smoothly without worrying about nicks or razor burn.

Now, after you find one of your liking, it's time to look for is a brush.

    There's typically 3 types.

  • Badger
  • Boar
  • Synthetic

Badger is the most common, as it's softer and holds a generous amount of water. Boar is a harder type hair and requires some getting used to (of which I have little experience with).

Brushes can range from $10-$300. A lot of the price comes down to quality of the hair and material of the handle. Remember, you get what you pay for. One thing to consider is that wet shaving was designed to last forever. Brushes and razors from the 60's, as long as they were well taken care of, can be used today.

Heck if you don't want to get too fancy, don't get a brush. A simple dallop of shaving cream on the hand and massaged on the face would suffice.

Next are razor blades. There's a ton of different manufacturers. Gillete, Astra, Feather; to name a few. Every brand works for different people. I find Astra to be the ideal blade for my face, but Feather blades are too rough on me. When starting out, I'd suggest trying a "Blade Sampler Pack" from some online retailer. And when you find a brand that works, see if you could buy their blades in bulk. I get the 100 pack. So if I use 1 blade for 2 shaves, the cost of blades drop down to mere pennies compared to the cartridge razor blades they sell at the drug store.

SO, now that you have the essentials, keep in mind of the three basic things you use for pre/mid/post shave.

  • Preshave oil (Optional although I highly reccomend it)
  • Shaving cream
  • Aftershave (Optional)

Here is where the fun starts. There's just so many choices! You can buy special pre shave oil (preshave oil helps lubricate the blade as it glides over your face. Shaving cream does too) or you can use a glycerine soap bar like this one however, Whole Foods sells a store brand soap bar for $1 that I love.

Try out different shaving soaps or creams until you find one you like. There's so many different online retailers that it aint funny. And they're pretty cheap too. I personally love the Eucalyptus Shave cream from Bath & Body Works and i'm still using the same tube that I've had since last year.

Soak the brush in water, shake excess water out, put a pea size amount of cream on the brush, rub on face, make lather, shave! It feels really good too!

They say to shave for three rounds per shaving session. With the grain, across the grain, and against the grain. So pay attention to which direction the hair grows all over your face and neck.

With your razor, razor blades, pre shave, and shaving cream, you'll have amazing shaves and more money in your pocket.

I haven't used electric shavers, but I can assure you that there's no closer shave you'll get than from a razor.

P.S. Don't buy anything from The Art of Shaving. They are way overpriced for not that great of quality.

Soap: Ivory bars

Deodorant: Mitchim 48 hour unscented

It is worth understanding that nothing is truly unscented

These just don't add much and I end up smelling fresh & clean - or so I'm told - it's also worth remembering that we never really understand our own scent. We get used to it far too quick.

This combo, even thoguh I never wear cologne, it won't fight with the cologne.

I also use basic dandruff shampoo that has no extra added scents.

If your shampoo smells, and your soap smells, and your deodorant smells, and your shaving cream/gel/etc. has a scent... and then you add cologne you are layering all kinds of chaos together.

Once I realized this (as a much younger man) I focused on cleaning products that made me clean and then I could add scents to a neutral base vs. AXE AXE AXE AXE. :)

If your cleaning products are going to have scents, at least make sure they all work together and with any cologne you throw on top

May the Gods who don't exist help anyone who gets within smelling distance at that point :)

I only started at the beginning of the year so i know exactly what you're going through. If you go about once a week for a few weeks you'll slowly have more and more endurance. So instead of being wiped out after 25 minutes, you'll soon be able to go 2 or 3 hours.

The biggest thing you need to know is that if you really keep at it and start going 2 or 3 times a week, you need to stretch well, both arms and legs before you climb, every time, no matter what. And then when you feel loose, go climb some super easy stuff for about 7-10 minutes. Otherwise you'll pull a tendon in your arm(s) and not be able to climb for weeks.

There are stages that you'll go through:

  1. Sore forearms and fingers

Do push ups on days you don't climb to help build up your muscles a bit more. The forearm and finger soreness gets better fairly quickly (at least for me) as long as you're consistently climbing. I think i stopped having ridiculously sore forearms after about 2-3 weeks.

  2. Blisters

Most likely the skin on your fingers isn't used to the feeling of basically rubbing sandpaper on it for hours at a time, so even though your forearms may be feeling better, all that climbing has now caught up to your soft fingers and fingertips and you'll probably get some nasty blisters on your fingers (pinky specifically). For that, i recommend getting climbing tape, and just taping over the cuts and sores until the heal and turn to callus.

  3. Skin is constantly torn up

Once you've been climbing for about 1.5-2 months consistently, your hands will start to feel a bit rougher and you'll be able to get some of those crimps and slopers you couldn't before. But that doesn't mean you still aren't irritating your skin and turning it red raw. When you go to grab a hold and it just feels like fire, that's when you know it's probably time to stop for the day. I got to point where I had to stop for about 5 days (it felt like a lifetime) because my hands just weren't healing fast enough.

Buy this it's climb on! an amazing lotion bar that heals your hands SO fast. i use it daily and on days that i climb, i use it right when i get home and that burning sensation is just gone and my hands feel rejuvenated. It's literally saved my ability to continue climbing. It's not greasy, it smells good and it's even edible (not that you'd WANT to eat it). couldn't recommend it more, i'm actually addicted to it i think.

Hope this helps man! And sorry for making this so long, i just feel obligated since i just went through the exact process you're about to go through.

As for full body workout, you'll definitely feel fairly sore almost everywhere after a solid day of climbing, but its definitely like 60/40 upper body to lower body.

tl;dr: you'll get sore, it'll pass. use tape on wounds, and heal them with climb on.

It's hard not to be a slob. Trust me, if I didn't have things in my life that required me to get up and get going, I would be exactly like you.

I keep a pretty simple routine that works for me, so here's a rundown of a few of my habits on cleanliness.

Some people shower in the mornings, others at night. I on the other hand shower any time I feel grimy. This means I shower any time I feel I need one, even if that means showering two or three times in a day. I put the water on slightly warmer than lukewarm, because hot water dries out your skin. I lather up my anti-dandruff shampoo first and leave it in my hair while I wash my body. I use Clear Men Scalp Therapy, because after using just about every other product on the market I've found it to be the only thing that works for me. Everyone is different, so experiment with different brands to see what suits you. But remember, you have to leave anti-dandruff shampoo in your hair for about five minutes to get any benefit from it.

I then wash my body with a loofa and bar soap. Men + Care is nice and moisturizing. Unscented soap is good if you plan on wearing cologne. I pay special attention to the sweatiest parts of my body (groin, pits, feet, etc). I lather up the soap and let it sit on those spots for a minute or two.

I then wash the shampoo out of my hair and apply conditioner. I don't have a preference on conditioner, I just use whatever my girlfriend has in the shower. It takes a few minutes for conditioner to do its magic, so I leave it in my hair while I wash my face. Here I pay special attention to my ears and nose.

I rinse off, wrap a towel around my waist and drape another over my back and shoulders while I get ready to brush my teeth, shave my face, and do my hair. To learn great techniques for shaving, check out /r/wicked_edge. I keep my hair pretty short, so doing my hair is pretty quick and painless. I get a haircut once every two weeks, and I use American Crew Fiber to style it. That stuff is amazing once you figure out how to use it. It takes a little practice. There are Youtube videos you could look up to find a great technique for your hair. Also, /r/malehairadvice of course.

By this time my body is dry (I don't rub the towels on myself to dry, I just dry off naturally because my skin is sensitive), so I take a little gold bond and spray it on my feet and my inner thighs. Gold Bond No Mess Spray Powder will change your life.

A spray of cologne (I use Abercrombie's Fierce...it's cliche I know, but it turns my girlfriend on) on my wrists and the back of my neck and I'm ready to get dressed.

Visit /r/malefashionadvice if you want to learn more than you ever wanted to know about clothes.

Hope some of this helps!

You should find a different store man. Those are all MOIST as FUCK. Takes forever to get clean using those fucking things. At least to my squeaky standards. Here. Just get it from Amazon.

Climb on Bar is super helpful. I bought one after my calluses started getting bad from climbing and lifting - just rub a little on at night to help soothe your hands.

Do not roll with ringworm, ever. Long sleeve rashguard or not. Stay off the mat until it's cleared up. Be considerate of your training partners.

I've had ringworm several times in the past due to training partners with unwashed gis, dirty mats, and long drives home post-training. Haven't gotten it since I began to use defense soap on my entire body (hair and beard as well) after every training session. Whenever it popped up in the past I use Lamisil, which kills it in a few days. You can find Lamisil at pretty much any pharmacy or supermarket. And I always took several days off training. They say once it flakes it's safe to train but I gave it until it was completely cleared up every time just to be safe. I didn't want to be the asshole spreading it all over the gym.

u/goldragon · 6 pointsr/wicked_edge

I enjoy doing a quick face wash with unscented glycerine soap and then not fully rinsing it off before lathering up. It helps add a bit of slickness underneath the lather. You should be able to find a bar at your grocery store or corner pharmacy.

I buy fragrance free products by and large. Here are those I use:

u/corndogsareeasy · 4 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Just called my OB/GYN best friend for an answer to this question- to clean the vulva, an UNSCENTED glycerine or castille soap are going to be your best bets. DON'T use the Summer's Eve stuff- even the "Simply Sensitive" has fragrance listed as an ingredient (it's a masking scent, rather than a perfume, but still), plus unnecessary synthetic dye. u/copshows is on the right path with Dr. Bronner's baby formula being a good idea, or something like this would work as well. According to her, you're looking for the least amount of ingredients possible- simple is better.

u/NateT86 · 4 pointsr/NoPoo

I actually tried washing my hair with this Castile Soap. It wasn't bad. I wouldn't recommend it for daily use, but every once in awhile, not bad.

u/blindcolumn · 3 pointsr/StackAdvice

My skin used to get really dry from soap until I switched to a glycerine-based bar soap. I use this unscented one, but there are a lot of types you can choose from.

u/KeiNameless · 3 pointsr/asktransgender

I personally use this stuff . It helps dry out the oils on my skin but you do need to use some kind of a moisturizer with it or it will dry out your skin too much.

u/acleverpseudonym · 3 pointsr/fragrance

If you like bar soap, I'm personally a fan of the Mysore Sandal soap that you can find in Indian grocery stores and on Amazon. It's dirt cheap (a dollar or two per bar) and smells great.

u/Huckleberryking · 3 pointsr/Wetshaving

Like Greggy said. Stirling and MLS are great. My wife hijacked my Drunken Goat soap. Wholly Kaw just sent me a bar of his bath soap that I used this morning and it's just as good. Not sure of he sells them on his site though. I assume if you ask he can hook you up. I have a lot of Indian grocery stores around me and they have an amazing amount of bar soaps. One was supposedly Mysore Sandalwood and it did smell nice. Tallow Soap that has lanolin in it and it's only a couple bucks a bar. This is the stuff (Mysore Sandal Soap 2.65 oz Box, (Pack of 12) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001G7PZB0/ref=cm_sw_r_apa_nUpFxbKWKZ5NA)

u/arbarnes · 2 pointsr/Wetshaving

It's great soap, and is actually not particularly expensive. I buy the 75g bars on Amazon for about a buck apiece. Supposedly it's "the the only [soap] in the world to be made out of 100 per cent sandalwood oil."

The king of Mysore set up a soap factory in Bangalore during WWI; it's still owned by the government of the state of Karnatka (so each bar is stamped "Govt. Soap Factory"). The government also owns the sandalwood plantations, so it doesn't have to buy the essential oil at a premium.

Edited: WWI, not WWII.

u/Fmradiochick · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

/u/drusual I'm fairly certain you smell amazing! But I'll have to decide if my instincts are correct when I meet you next month. :) Prep yourself for the awkwardness.

I can relate with the cysts, one thing I have found that has helped me tremendously is Defense bar soap. It’s made of all natural ingredients and it’s to help with antifungal. It keeps all cysts or boils at bay, and if you feel one coming on, wash the infected area and I swear it works wonders.

Another thing too, the same happened under my breasts, and as uncomfortable as this may make you feel, I have just rid of all my bras. I know it’s the societal norm to wear them but the discomfort is unreal, and the pain it causes is too much. I have not had any sores, cysts, nothing under my breasts since.

PCOS is a bitch.

u/samus-aran · 2 pointsr/asktransgender

Body smell comes from the bacteria on your skin converting odorless sweat to what we smell. Diet and Hormones effect the final smell but the types of bacteria on your skin are just as important. typical soap kills all bacteria possible. And the first bacteria that return day after day are the foul smelling ones. Black soap leaves your skin safer for the pleasant smelling bacteria to return first.

if you want to speed up the process. Eat healthy foods and wash exclusively with black soap for at least a month.
two examples black soap or soap2.

u/Sycaid · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

If you've tried using acne fighting products that one would normally use on the face, on your chest, and it didn't really do anything, it maybe fungal.

If that's the case, perhaps giving sulfur soap a try: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00371PJ1E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Or a Zinc soap bar: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EIQK3AY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Make sure you get a decent lather and let it sit on the infected area for a few minuets. =)

I have the Zinc bars atm, but I haven't been using them for long so I can't comment on how effective they are. I also recently ordered those Sulfur bars too and will try them once the Zinc bars are all out.

Also consider using shampoo and conditioner that does not have SLS or SLES, as those are harsh detergents known to cause break outs on the back, chest and shoulders.

u/avlfive · 2 pointsr/Dreadlocks

I can't speak for ALL bar soaps but I have used one kind before.

The one kind that I have used is Kirk's Castile Soap Bars

I usually use Dr. Bronner's Liquid Soap (Diluted)

Hope that helps a little.

I'm a huge fan of Nubian Heritage African Black Soap. It's very hydrating and seems to cleanse deeper than other products I've used. It also has anti-acne properties, which I'm like you - I only break out every once in a while. You can use it all over your body or just on your face. I bought a bar about 10 months ago and it's still going strong. I keep it in the shower.

It's super cheap on Amazon (less than $5) and is probably the best thing in existence.

u/virstulte · 2 pointsr/wicked_edge

Plugging TOBS Sandalwood for a recommended cream... If you don't have a soap, it's notoriously easy to lather. I use it when I rush my shaves, or if I don't have time. Very good shaving cream IMHO, and it always gives reliable shaves.

Not better than my Stirling, but we're talking Amazon here, and TOBS Sandalwood Cream would be my recommendation for something to get latherin'.

For a brush, although I have not tried boar knots, the 10048 looks pretty good, and I've seen someone else recommend it already. If I was buying on a budget from Amazon, that would be my first pick.

The TOBS cream and Omega brush will set you back about what you would have paid for the VdH kit, which is rubbish from what I've heard, although I have no experience with it.

Face or palm lather the TOBS and save yourself a bowl. The mug in the VdH kit is only to put soap in anyway, and shouldn't be used to lather - only to load your brush. Even if you did try to lather in it, it's not really the 5-6 inches diameter you're gonna wish you had.

Also, if you have leftover cash, spring for some Witch Hazel. Stuff is frickin magical. Apply right before you apply aftershave balm, and let it sit for a minute or so to really tighten up your face.

If you have even more leftover funds, or opt to get WH at your local drugstore, apparently Clearly Natural Glycerin Soap is a good pre-shave. I use MR GLO, but people have told me that any high-glycerin soap makes a nearly equivalent MR GLO substitute. And, for the price of less than one puck of MR GLO, you get 3 bars of Clearly Natural. Hooray for hydration and slickness!

And if you're in for a splurge, get a fancy stand. Adds counter appeal - totally unnecessary, but cool.

Good buy on the Nivea Sensitive ASB, and sub the EJ for a Parker 24c, per /u/leisureguy's post. He's never steered me wrong. Both purchases I've made based on his recommendations have worked out great, which were my Plisson brush and MR GLO.

As for the sample pack, you're probably better off spending some out-of-pocket dough on tryablade.com, or any of the other sample pack resellers. Get your money's worth.

P.S. - Don't forget to soak your boar brush (should you select it) in hot water for a few minutes before you try lathering with it. Boar brushes also have a break-in period, so be mindful that your first few shaves/lathers may be less than desirable.

u/alwaysdaruma · 2 pointsr/weddingplanning

I'm so sorry you're struggling with this!!! :C It sounds so anxiety inducting...which of course makes it even worse. I hope it at least begins to lighten up for you soon, even if you know it won't go away, I hope it'll calm down a little!

If you're open to trying something? I've found that this soap helps to keep my eczema in pretty good control. I have dry eczema on my arms and wet and dry on my hands. Using this soap every day has kept most of my eczema under some amount of control...and if I use a different soap, even for just a day or two, I'm almost guaranteed to have a bad flare up. I've had someone overnight ship it to me once when I was traveling and forgot to pack it.

u/lilkuniklo · 2 pointsr/AskWomen

It's amazing as a makeup remover but you will need some baby wipes too. Smear some over your makeup and rub it around. Wipe off with baby wipes. Do it one more time. Then wash your face. Coconut oil and African Black Soap are saving my skin right now.

I LOVE it as lube for my dildo. Makes my pussy buttery soft. Unfortunately I can't use it for sex since I'm still using condoms and oils break down latex.

Just starting shaving my legs with it too and I get a WAY closer shave with coconut oil than I do with shaving cream. Again, buttery soft skin.

u/MyrrhFlower · 2 pointsr/PCOS

I know a lot of our acne is hormonal, but i noticed a huge difference when I switched my cleaning products.

I tried every product for years and they didn't stop acne, maybe helped limit it but never fully gone (on or off birth control).

But now I use black soap with ash daily. After, I use pure aloe on my skin and for the first time I know of, my skin is almost clear. The only break outs are the nasty jawline hormone ones, but they're less and smaller.

I also started sleeping with a tshirt over my pillowcase, which I change at least once a week (some do it daily).

Birth control that lowers testosterone also helps, as well as some things people have mentioned about diet.

Edit: soap and aloe

This optiMSM powder is almost the same price per gram ($18.8 vs $17.4 per gram MSM).
Actually I just got my first sulphur soap today. It isn't even a soap, but a soapfree pH 6 sulphur bar cleanser. So I suppose that one should be okay, but I will see (it's name is "Schwefel-Seife Waschstück" from "Blücher-Schering", a German brand).
This (also here) sulfur soap seems to be popular too. It claims to have a pH of 6 and has also 3% salicylic acid. A pH of 6 is too high though for the salicylic acid (SA) to work properly as an exfoliant, so I wouldn't rely on the SA in there.

If you do find a chapstick or balm that works for you, try putting it on right before you go to sleep. You're less likely to lick it off while sleeping and it will help a ton with your lips drying out overnight (when I do this consistently my lips are almost never chapped and I don't need to reapply during the day or anything).

I've never really believed the "chapstick will make your lips need chapstick" idea, but that's just anecdotal. I definitely don't think your lips would get "addicted" or anything if you only put it on once a day.

Related advice: if your heels or hands dry out in the winter, climb on balm is the best thing ever. It's like magic for curing those nasty heel cracks, and it's made from food-grade natural ingredients. I've never tried it on my lips, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

Edit: They make climb on chapstick. Basically beeswax + plant oils.

Right so I know the name and appearance is pretty strange but seriously this is the best soap I've ever used, been using it for years now. I have really crappy skin but it's fantastic on my face. I first heard about it in one of those "reddit what is a product you'll use for life?" threads.

This is one of the better car-cessories I've gotten recently. Only truly useful if you are in a Northern climate, but I sure do appreciate.

My mom had it. Itching went away right after delivering henry. She drank v8 juice every day and used grandpas pine tar soap. http://www.amazon.com/Grandpas-Soap-Pine-4-25-Pack/dp/B001E0ZIWU/ref=pd_sbs_bt_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1DG8DPR3QEECW4D4XJVY

The soap isnt the best smelling but she said it helped. People on google seacrh seem to agree. She thinks the v8 was most important. V8 didnt clear up rash but made it less itchy.

As someone who has had an aging parent who doesn't like to shower, this smell can be a huge issue. I've only found Japanese products like this to be made specifically for the smell and they're ridiculously expensive.

I have found a magic product that works for my face and it's insane. I used to have the worst acne ever, which included the tiny pimples at my forehead from hair product/grease and the hat I have to wear for work. Here's how I have been fighting the good fight but YMMV.

Step 1: Basic routine on /r/SkincareAddiction.

Step 2: Replace cleanser with black african soap.

Pimples have magically disappeared for me. But as a warning, the soap might burn your face at first. It didn't happen to me but it's in the reviews.

Go vote, kid.

Tar soap. Politicians try so hard to scrub themselves clean, but sometimes the coverup stinks worse than the dirt... and voters don't vote for someone who stinks.

Got some results with Sulfur SAL3 soap.

There's a whole micro-world of bacteria, yeast and parasites living on us all, and sometimes changes in diet and certainly sweating can increase the population of those creatures.

Also, it helps to get REALLY dry, like use the blow dryer on all your creases before you get dressed. Even "towel-dry" is not enough.

I've been thinking of giving Defense Soap a shot. It has tea tree oil which I've read is anti-fungal. I'm sure it wouldn't be as strong as an Rx cream, though.

Have you found a source for larger amounts of anti-fungals? The tiny tubes I find don't last if you're trying to cover a larger area (like everywhere!)

I used to buy them on Amazon.co.uk but now I found some in Denmark.

This is what I've bought before

I use it to wash my har as well since shampoo seems to contain basically the same ingredients as liquid soap. Makes it a bit tangled till it dries.

That's bs. When I had really bad flair ups from candida infection my belt buckle would give me pimplyb rashes. The best thing you can do is buy this soap, Yes To Tomatoes Bar Soap Activated Charcoal and use it daily.

Other than that, I'm a guy, so this is easier for me to do, but I wear two pairs of underwear. One boxer brief and one boxer and it gives me extra padding that helps keep that belt buckle from being able to rub.

Another thing is if you are sexually active, be sure that you showed after sex as soon as is feasible, but at least use a warm washrag to wash that area.

The best piece of advice you can ever get about keeping that area from breaking out is DON'T TOUCH IT. Keep your fingers and hands away. My rashes have almost completely stopped since I finally stopped myself from constantly inspecting and touching and putting me hands anywhere near that area.

That yes to tomatoes brand also makes wipes that are hypoallergenic and they are fucking amazing for cleaning your face or any area that has a high likelihood of rash or infection. Yes To Tomatoes Charcoal Face Wipes for Clear Skin

I have extremely sensitive skin that breaks out very easily. When I switched to cruelty free products it took me a while to find something that didn't make me break out even more. I started Yes To Tomatoes and I absolutely love it! You can find it at Walmart, Target, pretty much anywhere that sells Yes To products. And since it's a bar and not liquid I feel that it last forever! It leaves my face feeling very clean without over drying it.

Dude Osun African black soap is amazing for killing body odors, as well as resolving minor skin problems. Give it a try:

Late to answer so this will get buried, but give charcoal soap a try. I don't lift but I do aerials (pole/hoop/silks) and my hands get slick SO quickly. Wash your hands with a soap like this one before you start your session. It seems to draw a lot of the moisture out, and leaves my hands more dry throughout the typical hour-long class

Papoutsanis Pure Greek Olive Oil Soap Of Bars, 8.8 oz, Pack Of 4 (250g) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000W3VABS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ohVBCbWHKNT2H

One bar will last me 6 months, you can use it for shampoo and soap and anything.

These things last foreverrrrr and are super good for you. My family in Greece makes products similar in their village.

Usually in the morning before work. If I'm up late, the night before, I'll get in a shower before I go to bed, in anticipation of waking up late and having to rush out the door. On the occasion I end up going through the day without a shower, I hate it. I feel clammy and I can smell myself.

For you, though, I don't think the problem isn't the frequency, it's the technique.

For one: try showering with cooler to cold water. The latter might seem particularly off-putting, but there are alleged health benefits to it, though I'd take most of them with a grain of salt. (Such examples include increased immunity, increased libido, higher testosterone levels, increased sperm-count) This study sought to find health benefits of cold showering, I recommend you check it out.

Secondly: in addition to hot water, average soaps and shampoos tend to strip your skin and hair of natural oils and dry them out. A solution would be to moisturise regularly. Body lotion, face lotion, leave in conditioners, beard oil (If you're blessed with facial hair). In the shower, you can also use a wash-out conditioner whenever you shampoo. You could also swap out your Irish Spring and Head & Shoulders for more natural alternatives. I hear Dr. Bronners is good and you can pick up natural glycerine soap from Amazon or a Publix.

Hope this helped. Ultimately, I recommend you do whatever works for you.

That seems like a pretty poor trade off. I've found that "black soap" makes for a great shave and facial cleanser and lasts a very long time https://www.amazon.com/Black-Soap-Dudu-Osun-Ingredients/dp/B00R1RPCXK
