I like to use one around the same length as my leg hair, but I'm also a Grizzly bear (literally) so I can get away with that.

Use a beard trimmer. Takes longer, and you won't be baby smooth, but it doesn't cut as close so it prevents the bumps and minimizes irritation.

For some reason I think you should grow your hair out a little, especially if its curly I think it would look cool. Also when I grew a beard I got one of these little guys and it just lets you do some little touching up and stuff. I think you'd also look good with maybe like shorter stubble almost and like a moustache. But yeah you look pretty chill and fun to party with.
Best $35 you will spend, you'll be smooth and it's almost impossible to get cut like a traditional razor or burned like from Nair.

I have this one and I think it's great. It's inexpensive, does the job well, and is also very useful for trimming sideburns and the like. For stubble, just remove the attachment. If you're impatient like me, Walmart shudder sells them.
I'm just like you, and I go clean shaven with a razor about once a year. The rest of the time, I just grow out the beard weekly and then shave it down to stubble. One more tip to keep it looking good is (after trimming) to use a razor to clean up your cheeks and give your face a more groomed look.

Pros: powerful clippers with a very long battery life. Suitable for all types of body hair grooming.
Cons: Only one guard that I consider suitable for stubble length and I'd prefer more options on that front. Not waterproof.

NO! IT's AWFUL! I don't know why it is so highly rated. It is cheaply made, the motor is weak and the weak battery doesn't help. It's fine for light work. If you want something that you won't want to throw against a wall, check out Wahl or similar. I bought this, recently, and couldn't be happier with it. Solidly built and it does in five minutes what took twenty with the damn Norelco POS.
You could always buy this bad boy and do the perma-stubble look. Even if you are patchy in place, if you do perpetual stubby with an electric razor, eventually the thinner parts will catch up. Or should.
Mine doesn't cut too long, if anything once in a while I cut too short. This one has a guard that rests near the trimmers as low as 1mm. Once I got this bad boy, I never looked back.

I have an older model of this one and it's still going after 2.5 years. But honestly no battery powered trimmer is going to be BIFL, because eventually the battery will die. And you are still going to have some hair to clean up.

This will work fine for what you need. Previously, when I kept my beard short, I just used my Wahl clippers-- the same ones I'd use to cut my hair.

I use the same as /u/songwind as far as process goes. Keep it trimmed with the clippers and straighten up any weird lines. Shave around it with the DE.

This one is good because you just use a wheel to adjust the length, you don't have to attach different guides. I take that and at the very edges where my delts meet my pecs, I start at the lowest setting, do a small line with that, and then go up a setting, do a small line, etc etc until I'm at my desired length (I would recommend around a centimeter).
It gives it a very natural fade-in look. Try it!
edit: also wanted to add that the end points on the sides and bottom should just be where your pecs are meeting your torso. Definitely try to fade in as well. if you want to keep the tummy hair, I would say trim that and fade as well.

Besides looking totally fabulous, the beauty of this style is you can easily maintain it yourself for months at a time without it ever getting remotely mullety. All you need is a simple cordless trimmer. Just set the trimmer to a length of 3/8" (i.e. #3 guard) and go over the back and sides every 1-2 weeks with the top part held or clipped up out of the way.
You can experiment with the length setting to shake things up a bit. Each trim will take you less than 5 minutes, and you can even use that cordless trimmer in the shower for no mess.

Norelco trimmers start at $18, so if you can't afford that, your best bet is using a regular razor. Personally, though, I'd go with /u/An_Honest_Ferengi 's suggestion of the Wahl Groomsman. It's an excellent brand.
If you have a few more bucks to spend, I own and love the Wahl Lithium Ion Trimmer. It is by far the most powerful cordless trimmer I've ever used, and the battery life is incredible. Highly recommended.
I think you're looking for two different things. An electric razor would be good for shaving either his head or his beard smooth. Some beard trimmers can be set up to leave stubble. I can use it in the shower too, just obviously don't make a point to get it wet.
And it takes practice to trim everything up with it. But it won't take more than a handful of times to figure out how to handle everything to get the desired results.

Some areas hurt more than others. I find it barely hurts at all on my shins, calves, and arms. It's manageable on my knees, thighs, and pits. I haven't had the courage to try on my bikini areas, and I'm too fat (and not on HRT yet) to be hairless on my chest and belly.

I love that it is wet and dry, use it in the shower with some hair conditioner to allow it to glide smoother. The adjustable settings are more than enough length for what I need.

Wahl 5-star Magic Clips are not a bad choice. They're about as cheap as you're going to find a good clipper, and Wahl has the best included guards from any of the major companies.
For outliners, the Andis Slimline pro Li are all you need. They're cordless (which is nice for outlining), the battery lasts quiet awhile, and they have a nice, non-aggressive cutting blade out of the box, which you can adjust to zero gap when you're more comfortable (and won't cut people). Just don't drop them, the teeth can break pretty easily and a new blade is around $25.
One of these, which is good for its price, but the trimmer part gets jammed up and needs to be taken apart sometimes to get the hair out so I wouldn't recommend it. When it comes time to replace it, I'll probably get one of these. I got it for my SO for his facial and body hair; I've used on him and it does a great job with no snagging or jamming.
If you want something that's truly BIFL, make sure either 1. the battery is replaceable, or 2. it can run while attached to the power charger. I had a trimmer that I used daily for years, but the battery stopped holding a charge and it wouldn't run while plugged in. I had no choice but to toss it.
I replaced it with this one. So far it's worked great, but it's too early to say that it's BIFL.
I use a philips oneblade for close shaving (for my neck, edges) but it does have combs you can slap on it, but that can be a hassle.
So I use a philips trimmer with a knob that lets me change trim lengths on the fly (but you'd have to take a couple seconds to diassemble it to get a semi-close clean shave) because I use different lengths for the the moustache part the cheek part and the under the jaw part.
I use this guy for trimming and doing a quick once-over when I am feeling extra lazy.
I used to use electric before I got into wet shaving, and this is far nicer to use.
I like the Phillips OneBlade. I haven’t tried the guides, but using it without a guide will give you a close shave but it’s not totally clean by any means, and by the next day it will likely be at the level of stubble you’re looking for.
You can use a cheap beard trimmer made for men's faces! Just put it on a low-ish guard and run it all over like you're mowing the lawn. Easy, cheap, and pain free.

We have bought a few different electric razors over the years for personal hygiene and what works best for us is a man's electric beard hair trimming razor for the monthly trimming, and a Cleancut personal shaver for the in-between times.
This is what I use for trimming. I typically use the 2 or 3 setting and try to make it same length as my sideburns/hair so it blends. I do this about once or twice a week and do minor touchups in between. This is especially important if you have a job where you want to look neat and clean but still have a beard.
This tool is also good for edging so you can shape the beard. You'll still need to use a razor to shave the rest of your neck and your upper cheeks. As Syeknom already said, don't overdo cheek shaving, don't underdo cheek shaving, don't have a neck beard but don't trim your beard up to your chin line. You can search online or go to r/beards to figure out how to do the neckline properly.
For the record, I would (probably) never pay a barber to trim my beard because I can easily do it myself and I'm more familiar with the shape of my own face and what I'm trying to achieve. However, if you're unsure what you want to do, this could be helpful.

Take the guard off of that and trim away. I have awful ingrown hair on my neck, so I've been using one of these for about 5 years. The beard trimmers give a shorter stubble, which is what it sounds like you are asking for, than a traditional hair clipper.
I bought this Remington a couple years ago and it's holding up like a champ. Only downside is it won't let you run it off the charger which is annoying if you forget to charge it. Charges do last a while, just got to remember to plug it in every so often. No half sizes, but I've found the 1, 2, 3 and 4 settings to be very good. I usually stay between a 2 or 3.
Whatever you do, DO NOT buy this piece of shit (Braun Cruzer). I bought it when I was on vacation because I forgot the Remington and wanted a new trimmer that would run off the charger. For whatever reason they decided they didn't need a "2" setting. 1 is too short and 3 is too long sometimes. Other than the lack of 2, it's actually a decent trimmer but as 2 is the best setting, it'd be a horrible idea to buy this thing. I use it on my pubes now.

I bought it because it has 20 different length settings and it offered the longest guard (I like to keep my beard a little long). If I absolutely had to pick anything that I don't like about it I would have to say it's that it doesn't have a vacuum. However, from what I have read online, most beard trimmers with vacuums aren't very good.
EDIT: The Philips Norelco T980 Turbo Vacuum Trimmer seems to get very good reviews and it has a vacuum setting. If I need to get a new trimmer ever this is the one I want. If you're curious why a vacuum is nice just wait until he trims the first time. Your sink will look like a yeti blew up in it.
Currently, I've been using this thing. In reading what you're saying, I'm wondering if part of my problem is trying to use it to shave closer than it's meant for, when I should use it to shave dry to cut down the beard hair in length and then go in there with a razor, with wet and the right kind of lather?
Practice, have you tried using a razor with different height settings like this? I've got one with a ton of attachments and can blend in my chest hair with the shaved area pretty well.

How much do you want it shaved? If you want silky smooth.. I've got nothing. But if you're looking for a very close trim, I use one of these lithium ion Wahl trimmers for my facial hair. It trims fine--no pulling--and it can get close enough to the skin that I exclusively use it for trimming and shaping my facial hair.
I can't imagine you're going to find any electric razor that's BIFL, let alone a sub-$100 one, but I'd recommend that Wahl for /r/GoodValue.
This is what I use, works fine, don't get it too wet (then it shorts, then you have to let it sit and dry for a couple days, then it's fine), and regardless of which one you get you will have to inevitably replace the blades on them (man face hair dulls those suckers like no other). Oh, and the replacement blades are only available from Wahl's website (search by the specific model number--no, no other replacement blades for any other model will work, I learned the hard way).
Wahl makes a Li-Ion model that's pretty darned good. I've been using mine for 3 years, I charge it maybe 3 times a year.

It's technically not a hair trimmer, but with the wide blade option it certainly works if you're going for a short buzz. It also lasts forever (I've had mine for running on 5 years), and I honestly have to charge it once every few months.
It is worth mentioning that some of the attachments work better than others, and the plastic stand it comes with is pretty cheap.

There's actually an attachment head to this one that trims short hairs even shorter, pretty much to the bare skin. It's the big one with two curved rows (shown in the middle here).
Here's my method:
Use the clipper flat on your skin without a guard to trim hairs short (1-3mm), then take the big head to finish the job. The big head can't pick up long hairs, but it's a pro at short hairs. The big head works in such a way that it won't irritate or bite your skin.
Here's what's great about that big head: since it only works on short hairs, you can use it every few days to keep your skin bare, really without even looking. If I let it go too long I have to trim it again.

I resolved this problem by buying a razor with a small vacuum in it (an older version of this model). All the hairs get pulled in as they're cut.

1mm to 18mm, compared to the bodygroomer which is 3mm to 11mm. So you can get shorter and longer hair with this, which I would say is a big plus.
Obviously designed for your face but no issue using it anywhere else I assume.
I use one of these in a dry tub. The built in vacuum gets most of the trimmings. Afterwards, I use a canister vac to pick up the remaining.

I have that model, although I got it way cheaper and I would recommend shopping around for it.
A few months ago I picked up this Norelco from Walmart and really like it. I had basically the same goal, switching from a medium length Van Dyke to a slightly-longer-than-stubble full beard. The two things I really like are the spring mounted guard that helps keep the length consistent, and the built in vacuum. If you use it every day or two, it easily captures nearly all of the cut hairs in a little chamber; easy clean up. The guard can be set between 1/32 inch to 23/32, and unlike many other variable guards I have used, it can't be accidentally pushed in to a different setting. It is on a dial that locks it in place to the desired setting.
I got a cheap Panasonic ER GB40. It does a pretty good job, and has a length dial that goes from 1-10mm in 0.5mm increments. I just use it like an electric shaver on 1 or 1.5.

For hair, I recommend either the Adam Savage as listed by others, or take it on down to 3-4 mm.
Whatever you do, don't get caught in some desperate comb over, and don't start dyeing it. Wear every gray and thinning hair like a special recognition of survival in the battle against time itself.

I like the Panasonic Wet/Dry because I can use it in the shower, it has a decent amount of length settings, and it's also a decent body trimmer.
If he doesn't have an intense beard I have this one that holds a good charge, works wet/dry, doesn't snag if you keep it oiled as per instructions, and is compact. It's much better than my old shitty rechargeable trimmer. I got it for $35. Works great for trimming my short beard.
If he has a thicker beard I'd gfo for something more heavy duty.

Nope, unfortunately my beard is still filling in on my cheeks so it's not as dense, and that morning when I had trimmed by beard I sorta accidentally got too much of my cheek hairs so it looks like I don't have cheek hair at all XD
For the stubble I just let it grow for a week and then trim it with this on setting #2. Boom: stubble.
As for making facial hair grow in different places, as far as I know there is no way to induce this naturally. It's probably going to fill in over time, but if not the only solution would be hair transplants. You could potentially take biotin supplements, which are pretty well documented as helping with hair growth. Be careful with other supplements though, as some can cause acne.
I'm not sure what you mean about "doing" anything to my lips to be honest haha! Like to make them bigger? Or for color? Either way I've never used any products on my lips, I feel like they're way too big already haha.

I use this for shaving body hair. It works great and gIves a surprisingly close shave for a trimmer. Not as close as a razor, of course, but it's a lot more convinient.
Does anyone get the monthly loot crate boxes? Is it just junk or is it good stuff? My fiancée's birthday is coming up, and I think he would like something like that, but it looks like some of the boxes are very kid-oriented.

Wahl always has low cost and reliable trimmers. Also, I just ordered it so I can't attest to it's effectiveness but there are trimmers with a vacuum component. The Remington seems to beat out the Norelco in the reviews.

It has been a beast for a cordless. The lithium ion battery makes a big difference in power. I've cut off a few thick beards with this dude. Seems like it checks off the boxes you mentioned.

I see that there is a Philips Norelco All-in-one device. Frankly, I'd rather have a great shaver and a great clipper instead of one good combo.
My best friend (also a bi manscaper) turned me on to the Philips OneBlade for everything down there. I go to the barber every two to three weeks to keep it even & fresh.
By this point, you should know what works for your skin as far as razor bumps. I gave up on using razor blades and now only use electric razors. I swear by the Phillips Norelco one blade. It's not as close of a shave as I used to get, but I don't get razor bumps anymore.
I don't have a beard very often, but when I do, I let the barber start it and I use the one blade every morning to keep the shape in order.
I also use a facial scrub every other day and use a tea tree oil lotion on my skin every morning.
If you don't have a super course beard and only shave every few days, check out the OneBlade. It reduced irritation (and acne) for me and my super sensitive skin to almost nothing because it doesn't get so close that hairs are growing back into your skin and you don't have to use any shaving products. Still gets close enough for me personally.
Sometimes just growing out my beard for 3-4 days+ results acne in and of itself. Maybe because it traps dirt easier? Idk.
For me using an electric shaver works the best. After trying several I like the below one the best. It gives me a close enough shave with out the irritation that an actual razor, nair, or some of the other options give me.

I’ve read your most recent posts and comments and you seem to have been pretty resistant to any kind of input thus far. I do agree that some people have been unnecessarily harsh, and I’m sorry for that, so I’ll try to give you some tips with what we’ve got to work with here. Keep in mind nothing I’m saying here is intended to attack you, I’m trying to help with your beard. It’s normal to not know what you’re doing when you start growing a beard. I certainly didn’t.
I agree that to truly help you with your beard, we need better pictures. One picture of your face straight on, with nothing blocking it, and another one of a side view.
The most important part of having a good-looking beard is trimming/styling. You can’t start with a clean shaven face and expect to end up with a perfect beard in a few weeks without any maintenance. It takes time. I don’t think you should take the nuclear option and shave the whole thing off like you mentioned in r/offmychest. All that would do is reset all the progress you’ve already made, which I’ll explain further down. I’d recommend buying this trimmer. It’s inexpensive, and very good value for the price. I have it and have used it regularly for about a year. It comes with a range of guards to trim your beard to different lengths, as well as a smaller styling trimmer. A trimmer like this is very important to own if you want to have a beard.
Trimming: The other guy mentioned that you have a weak mustache compared to the rest of your beard, and I agree with this, but it is absolutely fixable. You need to keep in mind that not all the hair on your face grows at the same pace. I’d guess that the longest parts of your beard are around 10-12mm right now, those are where the hairs are getting curly and it’s making the beard look messy. Your mustache is probably around 5-6mm. What I’d recommend doing once you get the trimmer, is trim your entire beard down to about 7mm. Not only does this clean up the scraggly look, but it gives the hair that grows slower more time to catch up. Continue shaving everything down to that length every few days, and over time your beard will look more filled in as all of the hair reaches the same length. Your mustache will eventually be a consistent length with your beard, and many of the patchier parts will look fuller. Shaving everything off just because your beard doesn’t look good right now will just reset the progress you’ve made on growing the slower-to-grow hairs.
Styling: Styling your cheek line (line from your sideburn to your mouth) and neck line are very important. In general for your neck, there shouldn’t be any hair below the crease where the bottom of your chin/head meets your neck. Neck beards don’t look good on anyone. This line should go to the bottom of your jawbone, beneath your ear. When done right, this accentuates your jawline. For your cheek, it really depends on how much hair you grow there. For a lot of people the cheeks are one of the hardest place to grow hair. If you have a well filled in beard on your cheeks, you can do a straight line from your sideburns to your mouth. If it is patchy, I’d recommend a more curved line. In my opinion cleaning your cheeks up is the most important part. I can see a lot of stray hairs on your cheeks and just cleaning those areas up with a razor will help a lot.
I typically trim my beard to a consistent length every 3-4 days, and straighten out my neck line after trimming. I clean up the stubble on my cheeks every 1-2 days (makes a huge difference in how clean your beard looks).

For trimming and shaping go ahead and get a couple cheap shaping tools and follow the instructions. I use something like this.
Lastly, if I want to make a change in the shape of my beard I start small. I will start with a quarter of how much I think I want to take it up and live with that for a day. I would way rather spend a few days making sure I get what I want than cut too much off in haste and have to restart.

that's the trimmer I use. If I'm trying to leave some length I'll just use one of the guards. If I'm just trimming the bottom and I'm going clean shaven or slight stubble then I just go at it without a guard. And yeah my hairs do the same thing
I found out about this completely by accident, bought a cheapo ($20) at some thrift store while on a roadtrip and had no other options. The thing turned out to be great, and that was 4 years ago. It's a Wahl something like this, which I use with no guard. YMMV, but I've been very satisfied, and for $20 it's worth a shot, even if this ends up as a backup.
I used to love the ritual of shaving with a safety razor, but the bumps weren't worth it. I was told by an older gentleman to stick to these for grooming my facial hair, and to avoid razors. I've never looked back.
Tell your boyfriend to stick to the smallest beard guide if at all possible. Using the raw trimmer without a guide can still cut close enough to cause razor bumps. And buy some trimmer oil, as well.
Edit: To help drive home how real this problem is, the military has a strict shaving policy that black people are exempt from due to the problem of razor bumps.
I do not like the trimmer on this one, it's shit. I use this one, which has lasted me ... 4-5 years now and I am only now pondering getting a new one. (All whal shavers are excellent, my next purchase will be a peanut trimmer as it is just as small but is corded, designed for professionals and has replaceable blades.)

This is one that I used for years and had to replace it because it got old... I cant use anything that trims shorter than this without breaking out. The one I use now I cant think of the name but it doesn't cut as short as this and has a removable head.

It's very similar, I like the beard trimmers because they tend to have a slimmer head and are, for me, easier to maneuver. mreoww is also correct about how intuitive it is, just watch your bits around the guard and you'll be fine. Something like this clipper or trimmer are what you're looking for, not an electric shaver.

It's cheap, effective, and can be operated either cordlessly OR with the cord. Since mine is almost always plugged in in the bathroom, I like having one that will run straight from the wall as opposed to purely rechargeable ones.
First of all, you'll want to make sure you can grow a dense beard like Barry to get the same look. If so, then just find the length you want, select the appropriate guard, and go over the entire beard to keep it the same length, which is what Barry is doing.
For the parts you don't want bearded, if you've let them grow out a little too much, take off the guard and chop all that stuff off with the unguarded beard trimmer. The unguarded trimmer is also good for edging the beard-nonbeard interface. Use normal blades to get the nonbeard parts smooth; the trimmer is not designed for that.
Finally, be aware that the guarded trimmer will likely cut differently depending on whether you're going with or against the grain of your beard. Basically, it'll probably cut shorter against the grain. Experiment to see how it works out for you.
If you get things the way you want and have the right tools, which I've just mentioned, daily maintenance should be pretty quick.

Get a trimmer. I have this one, and i've been using it for years. I just noticed when I was getting the link it's 15% off, so, that's cool, but get whatever one you want.
You just slap a guard on there and go to town. It will cut it all to the same lengths. i even go different directions.

And you don't find it gives you sores or pimples? I've had two electrics in my time, neither have been that good, both broke. But I recall them giving me cuts and sores. I got this: Remington MB-200, $15, has a rechargeable battery and variable trimming levels. It kinda sucks for an actual clean shave as its a beard trimmer, but since I'm doing the stubble thing to it works pretty well, I either use the 1 or no guard setting. The major con is that its disposable; i.e., you can't replace the parts (blade, battery, etc.) but it is $15 so hey, thems the stakes. Add a standard disposable razor to your kit for the occasional clean shave and you've got a pretty cheap facial hair grooming solution.

Picked this up for about $15 It's been good to me.
The Remington MB-200 kicks ass. The last model I bought around 15 years ago and its still running. I use it for my beard, haircuts, body hair, you name it.
The picture you have is NOT a 5 o'clock shadow. The meaning behind the phrase "5 o'clock shadow" is that you would've shaved early in the morning and by the late afternoon you have that extremely short stubble show. That's a couple days worth of stubble on Mr. Cooper there.
As for the stubble look, get a beard trimmer and use it on the 1 setting without the plastic cover for the blades. This is the one I have.
And remember - the stubble looks is great but the feel is (most of the time) passionately hated by a significant other. It feels like sandpaper on their face. Just something to think of.

I use this trimmer. Set it to 1 and you're probably at the 2-3 day scruff range. Battery life is pretty good and it's wet/dry. Another Wahl! They're still the cream of the crop. I have this kit and it cuts through my rough beard like butter. I wish it came with some longer guards, though, although I'm growing it out so it's all freehand now anyhow.
To be honest , I recently bought this and I have a norelco body groomer but it has all the attachments for it where I don't really even need the body groomer at this point. Only downfall is that I can't use it in the shower but meh, what ever. It is a hell of a beard trimmer too I must say. The foil trimmer gets pretty close on the body in sensitive areas if you get my drift...

After buzzing it down, I take a women's razor (shut up, the extra "guard" helps) to my cajones and make them baby smooth.

I use the trimmer blade. I don't think it has to do with this particular trimmer, because I've had other trimmers and they all cause razor bumps.
Basically, I'm trimming my beard at the shortest setting, and out of a sudden I get a "bump" on my face. It looks red, inflamed, exactly like a pimple, except there's no pus in it. They appear as I'm trimming, so it's really fast, it doesn't take hours. I tried to poke them with tweezers to see if I could find an ingrown hair, because that's what I thought they were, but I always end up not finding anything and making it worse. And no, they are not pimples that were hidden under my beard. I never let it grow too long, so I would notice them.

I don't like completely shaving because it gets itchy when it starts to grow back, so I usually just trim short enough that it's not curling all over the place. I think I use a #4 guard or somewhere around there, see what works out best for you. If you like the smoothness, then you can always use the trimmer everyday to keep short enough (there will still be some stubble if you don't use a razor but it will be minimal)

it's cordless and has a rechargeable battery which stays charged forever (other trimmers ive used have needed AA batteries), and the motor has serious power for a clipper thats not plugged into the wall. the guards that come with it are pretty good and you can really dial in the length you want. as far as shaping goes, I use a DE to shape my neck line and cheek line and have found that to be the best option that i've used, though i can't say i've used a shavette or straight. and since you use a template and the DE is too big to get around it, shavettes are purpose-built for getting great lines and edges, so as u/bdubelyew said that might be your best bet.
I cant speak for the clippers, but I will speak for THIS beard trimmer. I have had it for 4 years and it is my go to for shaping up my beard. I also have THIS Phillips Norelco trimmer as well but never use it. The Wahl is so much more sharper and precise. It is very easy to use and allows you to do fine and detailed trimming. The Wahl also was half the price of the Phillips.
As far as electric shavers go i have had the same Braun 4775 since 2006 and it is still going strong. All i have had to do is change out the blades once a year and keep it oiled. I always wanted a newer one, but this one refuses to die.

First off, you look fine. Great, even. The only thing that I might suggest is to trim the beard and to put a little product in your hair. Something to keep it from being so fluffy.
I use this to trim up my beard and couldn't be happier. In the winter I use it to keep my beard from getting all straggly and when I don't have a beard I use the stubble mode to keep me from being too baby-faced.
Likewise, I use this for my hair. It's dirt cheap, doesn't look like you have 'stuff' in your hair, and lasts for a long time. There's no need to spend $20 on a single jar of the fancy stuff, this works just as well.
Secondly, the reason you're kissless/dateless/handholdless and have no self-esteem has nothing to do with your outward appearance. I was just like you in high school and through most of college. I was 19 before I had my first kiss and did anything remotely romantic with a girl. Honestly, the only reason it happened was because the girl made all the moves and I was along for the ride. I would have been much older if it were completely up to me.
The thing that blew me away, and if I were a betting man I'd say it will be your story too, was going to my 10 year high school reunion. I had a half-dozen or more girls that I had crushes on come up to me and tell me that they had crushes on me; they just wanted me to ask them out.

Before I started really growing my beard out I used this phillips norelco with the vacuum thingy. And I hate it, but too cheap to buy something different. It leaves some hairs partially cut, so it causes the hairs to tear, and can be pretty painful. So stay away.
Nope, each country is different. I was screened flying into BKK, but I wasn't screened flying into HND for example (Where the Thai immigration police promptly confiscated my trimmer, http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Norelco-BeardTrimmer-adjustable-QT4070/dp/B003U8ESI4 - Not mad at all, I swear). The prohibited items are generally the same, but each airport allows for different flexibility. For example, flying out of ITM everyone was allowed to take a bottle of liquid into the sanitized area - I saw a few iced teas and sodas go through. Try that at any airport in the US and you'll get taken into a back room for a "thorough screening".

This is what I use. I gave up clean-shaving over a year ago and switched to the trimmer and am quite happy with it.
Like zzzaz said, it has a guard where I set the length that I desire and get a good stubble all along. Trimming above the lips is a bit tricky because there is not much room for maneuvering. But all in all, a worthwhile investment for me.
It might not fit your needs exactly, but I've been using the Norelco 7300 for over 2 years now and have really enjoyed it It holds a charge ridiculously well, and the vacuum feature is great for cleanup.
The reason I suggest it for travel is because it holds a charge so well. I use it 2-3 times a week and have probably charged it less than 10 times over those 2 years. This is only the second trimmer I've had, though, so that could be standard and I wouldn't know it.

I have he Philips 4070 beard trimmer and really love it. Trims well, especially on turbo mode, battery life is very good, good length range, nice design. Feels very solid. Might not be BIFL but it will last years for sure, given I trim about once a week.

I always suggest this for people looking to shave on the cheap if you're like me and enjoy a stubble look but don't like sharp things against your skin. I also have trouble with close-shave electric razors because my stubble tends to destroy their flimsy beard shaver attachments, and I don't shave every day so I can't just start in with the shaver foils.
With this, I spend about 5 minutes shaving every week or so. Cleanup is super-easy thanks to the vacuum (I produce a lot of beard hair in a week, so that's an endorsement). The first Norelco trimmer I had (Norelco was bought out by Philips, but they still sell a similar product) lasted me about 8 years and died because I kept leaving it in a poorly-ventilated bathroom so the electronics conched out. These things will last quite a while, but beware of condensing humidity.
I also like that it has the option to operate as corded or cordless - the first beard trimmer's battery never died on me, but I've had to throw out close-shave electric razors in the past just because the batteries wore out.

I use this when I've got a stubble I want to maintain. I find the 2.5mm setting is just perfect for me.

This is what I had.
I've been using the Panasonic ER-GB40 for the last year, and have zero complaints. The thing I like best is definitely the ability to use it in the shower. No clippings all over the bathroom, and cleaning it is easy - there's a small opening that you flush hot water through which pushes any clippings out of the razor head.
It's adjustable from 1 mm to 10 mm in 1/2 mm increments using the one guide comb. There's a rotating dial in the handle that is used for adjustment so you don't have to worry about losing one of the eight attachments. There's only one to keep an eye on.
I use something similar to this when I used to shave everything clean off.
I simply run the trimmer against the grain of the hair and it left me with a nice level of stubble. My hair also grows extremely fast, so I could tolerate one day of a little too close of a shave in order to have that stubble look the next.

I have been using this one for a couple of years now and it is working great! I had a similar one before this (same model but without the twisty length selector) which lasted me about 6 years. The old one still works but the length selector is worn and it became too easy to make a short patch in my beard. If it works for your bearding needs, i would highly recommend this.

and you have to keep it trimmed with a guard that you think looks nice, a #3 is pretty long but it looks fine, not homeless. I let my beard grow for 3 months and I got so many homeless comments that my family forced me to shave it off.

Your first pic is great, except that your neck looks untidy. Your third pic looks interesting (I got curious as to what you're doing) but again the neck looks untidy.
Also took a look at your second pic, and I think a stubble will suit you, invest in a trimmer with guards (this is the one I have) and use it to keep your facial hair neat. The trimmer comes with guards of different lengths (1.5mm, 3mm, 6mm), pick a certain setting and keep your beard clean.
About the glasses, I don't think they suit you, as your first picture also shows. I'd recommend getting contact lenses, or getting a more stylish pair, like these.

What is the length? If it's fairly short, you could always get a trimmer. I own this one and it works exceptionally well.

Just my opinion, I think it looks better not bald but with some hair and the trimmer lets you adjust the length of cut that you want so it looks nice and even. Of course, be careful with the trimmer since it is made to cut anything in its blade, even skin. Then I would suggest a Gillette razor on the scrotum since, again my opinion, I think it's looks nicer without hair. I really wouldn't recommend an electric razor for pubic or scrotum hair but I don't like them in general either. If you really are planning to use just an electric razor for your whole genital area trimming......then I guess I didn't answer your question. Lol.

This is the type and brand that I use. Though this one is much newer and fancier looking than mine. As you may notice if you search more of this brand, a lot of them have 3 circular bladed heads that I imagine provide a much closer shave, but Ive never felt it was necessary to go for those for what I need it for. This one works better to create a clean looking edge for my beard, but I think the aforementioned kind has a sort of pop-out trimmer that can be used for the same purpose.

Edit: Id also like to point out that I did use the kind with the 3 circular heads when I first started out and that kind irritated my skin. But that was 10 years ago and the shaver I was using was a cheap hand-me-down from my dad; definitely not as nice as they are now. If you're going for the completely clean shaven look it may be worth it to check those out. Always check reviews of course.

This one is in the link that /u/honicthesedgehog posted as the budget pick, and I think it's awesome. For a wireless one, it's a really good weight, isn't loud at all, has plenty of clips for different lengths, and a long battery life.
Mine is super thick and super curly so I toss a bit of conditioner and water. Then trim it to about 1 in.

Alright I’ve got experience here. First time I tried I used a razor and I got massive razor burn, had to get some ointment from the doctor (embarrassing). When I tried again I bought the Norelco Body Groomer. The body groom side sucks ass but the foil shaver is great for pubes. It doesn’t stay clean easily but i could get a close shave in like 5-10 minutes twice a week all over (shaft, balls, groin, butt). I wanted something for travel, though, something more compact and versatile. I bought this Norelco Multigroom 7000. I shave the downstairs after I shower a few times a week using the 2mm face stubble guard (the body groom guards aren’t close enough and the 1mm or unguarded takes much more care and you’re liable to cut yourself. I experienced this firsthand during my experimentation period.) I trim the bottom of the shaft near the vein or whatever with the foil shaver attachment. It’s not good for any other pube trimming (too wimpy) but it can clean up the stubble in that zone, where I’m unable to safely maneuver the 2mm guard with any precision. You’ll learn more the more you practice but feel free to message me if you need more advice.
I don't know how much stubble you want showing. If you just want a rough face, these should work. If you want it longer use an electrric trimmer like this

I have to disagree with most people here. This is the way to go. I've saved at least 6k on haircuts since I started using this model.
Yes it's "cheap." Yes, it's cordless.
The model hasn't really changed in years and all they do is improve the battery. I owned 1 for over 10 years and gave it it to a relative, happy to get a lighter, faster charging, longer lasting clone. As a built-in adjustable it actually has a wide enough cutting face for haircuts where most others are narrow and more geared toward beards.
Heavy build, power cords, and length guides you have to constantly change on Wahl isn't the way to go when you're giving yourself haircuts and/or want to quickly tune the beard in the morning.
Or you could just get a beard trimmer

I used a Norelco beard trimmer for the longer stuff to keep my beard looking trim and groomed. I use a mach 3 turbo razor to shape the areas around my beard with Jack Black beard lube. It's better than shaving cream and gives my neck and cheeks a very smooth feel.
Just make sure the neckline of your beard sort of coincides with the shape of your jawline.
