Hi there. I just went to Korea over the summer with my wife! Unfortunately we ended up on separate flights because we left/returned on separate days.

Not sure how much your husband has traveled before. I was absolutely DREADING the flight (4 hours to San Fran then 12 to Seoul for me) but I actually had a wonderful time and the trip itself went great.

Some tips:

    1. Go to Walgreens and pick up some Meclizine. It's for motion sickness and is available over the counter. It's like Dramamine and definitely can knock you out, but I never felt like it caused me to drag like Dramamine did once I woke up. Both flights this knocked me out for a good 3-4 hours.

    1. Go to Amazon and grab a comfy neck pillow. I got this one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WWFYCSG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    1. My flight had plugs but I also picked up this cheap battery in case my headphones died. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005X1Y7I2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    1. Get an Audible subscription. The first month is free so you can cancel. I recommend Red Rising. It's a good one and it occupied a lot of my time to listen to.

    1. Get a cheap surfacebook and buy Civilization 5 or 6. This alone took up a ton of my time.

    1. The flight showed good movies to take up some time. I recommend downloading the flight app BEFORE you board. My flight showed Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and a couple other good ones on the main screen, but you also have the option of a netflix-esque list of movies and shows on your phone/tablet.

    1. The food was absolutely terrific (for a flight meal). Hot and delicious. My flight had a baked chicken dish with rice and steamed carrots. Was really tasty. They actually served us 2 hot meals and 2 snacks. Besides these, definitely consider grabbing some snacks. I like simple peanut butter crackers.

    1. On that note, every time you are offered water, TAKE IT. It'll give you a good reason to move around and go to the bathroom. If you can find times to stretch your legs, go for it. And it has the added benefit of helping to avoid blood clots.

    1. If all else fails, my flight had free beer + wine. That alone should help him manage!

Shouldn't be too bad overall. Like I said, I was so dreading the experience and actually my flight overall went super well. I'm totally open to it now in the future, where before I thought I would do this one trip and not fly so far again for a few years.

      Good luck!

  1. Take some ibuprofen to get the inflammation down. Take it with food and take it with TUMs (antacid calcium tablets ) to protect your stomach.

  2. Spend your time on the floor. Read a book or watch videos to keep your mind off of it.

  3. Get to a doctor (preferably an orthopedic doctor specializing in back pain )to confirm that it isn't a disc injury. Most back pain is usually just muscle spasms.

  4. As soon as you can get walking, even if it hurts. It will speed up your back healing.

  5. Physical therapy has the best track record for helping back pain as far as type of professionals go. If you want an adjustment go to an Osteopath, not a Chiropractor. Osteopaths do adjustments and have the same education as MDs. Research has shown that adjustments peak in value after about two times.

  6. The most therapeutic self care for bad backs is swimming, long walks with good posture, and ab strengthening exercises.

  7. Bend from the hips, not the waist, knees bent, and always keep your back straight when doing so by looking up.

  8. If you must sit in a chair put a cylindrical cushion (or cushy rolled up towel )between the back of your chair and the small of your back.....and sit up straight.

  9. Remember that your spine and back are near indestructible, so chances are this is a soft tissue injury that will go away gradually and there is no need to worry until a doctor tells you otherwise. Worry is the biggest problem with back pain, rather than any issues with the back.

Good Luck and take it easy :)

I have a J-pillow. It's not perfect but it's much better than the standard neck pillow. I usually opt for a window seat to sleep against.

u/adaml223 · 8 pointsr/minimalism

I sleep on a shikibuton. I bought it about 6 months ago after becoming interested in Japanese futons. Because I didn't want to break the bank to purchase an authentic one, I settled for this one.

I fold it up every morning, fold my blanket, and set it and my buckwheat pillow on top of it and set it away in my room.

Before this I was using an old mattress that was in the spare room of my grandma's where I live. Being that my grandma isn't too interested in the idea of minimalism, my room becomes a very calming place for me when I head up to bed at night.

EDIT:
Just thought of this after I posted. I wish I would've realized the idea of minimalism before I moved out of my apartment. I was already on the side of have fewer possessions than most people, but I hadn't gotten to the point were I realized it and was able to fine tune it. I was basically a minimalist that didn't know it and therefore didn't put much thought into it.

u/WallHalen · 8 pointsr/BabyBumps

I bought my pregnant (17 weeks today!) wife a similar pillow, but much larger: link... and I despise it... not only does it take over the whole bed, but there's definitely no cuddling with it around.

However, she's decided to not use it until she really needs it, so I've got a few more weeks of snuggling before I'm on an island...

Konbanwa na no ja!

This is the dakimakura cover that Good Smile Company sold at their booth at Comiket 96. That was an "early sale" for people who could attend the event, but they are now taking preorders for their general release, which will be in November.

For those men of culture out there interested in cuddling with Senko-san, here in her nighttime yukata, you will need to have a Japanese purchasing agent order it for you, since they will not ship it directly to you outside of Japan. A user friendly option is White Rabbit Express.

As for a matching size pillow, this one would fit the bill.

Preorders will be open until September 18th! Good luck!

Glad I brought:

Kindle

Hard drive

Chaco flip-flops

A travel pillow

Sturdy but comfortable hiking pants

Bonus: my Hydroflask water bottle. Love that thing, and love not wasting plastic bottles.

Didn't really need to bring:

Casual clothes like t-shirts (my country has plenty)

Water bottle with a travel filter (my Peace Corps filter is adequate)

School supplies like pens and markers. There's a shop in my village that has plenty.

My nice-ish closed toe sandals that I was required to wear for PST, but never wear at site. PST is annoying like that.

My rechargeable flashlight. My house has electricity most of the time and I use my headlamp when it doesn't.

Wish I brought:

More snack items

More cotton collared shirts (I have to wear them for work, but clothes wear out fast here, and I don't like the ones I can buy in country.)

A Bluetooth speaker for playing music in my classroom

One of those phone cases that gives your battery an extra charge

Chocolate protein powder

I'm an American with family in Australia who has done this flight...far too many times. I have a flight routine for both skincare and general comfort that has made my life better (as good as it can be IMO without shelling out for business class):

-Tradeoff between aisle seat/good bathroom access and being able to lean against the plane wall/look out the window. Avoid middle seat at all cost! I don't mind waking people up so I usually go for the window.

-skin: take your makeup off and moisturize before the flight. No one is paying attention! On the flight, get up after dinner and do a night time routine with some sort of thick moisturizer at the end - I used Clinique moisture surge overnight mask last time and it worked pretty well. Do a morning routine before breakfast (and brush yr teeth. This makes you feel far less gross.).

-Bring lysol wipes and wipe your arm rests and tray table down when you sit down. You will look like a crazy person, but again: no one cares and you want to avoid getting sick.

-If you request a special meal they'll serve you first and honestly I think a lot of times the food is better? I usually get a vegan meal or the Indian meal.

-Bring something you like to help you sleep. Melatonin or dramamine or whatever. Take it after dinner. Have like one drink with dinner (tbh the wine on Qantas/Air New Zealand is usually decent!) and then start watching a movie and drift off midway through it.

-A nice neck pillow (I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Cabeau-Evolution-Memory-Travel-Pillow/dp/B004ZIDXK2/) and noise canceling headphones (I have bose quietcomforts and they made my life so much better.) are nice but not necessary.

I don't know where your family is, but I've never really had a big problem with the weather & my skin where my family is. It'll probably be warm, but just treat it like you would an american summer and wear more sunscreen than you think you need to, because the sun just seems stronger there.

Anything imported is going to be really pricey, but Australian brands usually end up being a bit cheaper once you take the exchange into account. I stocked up on Lanolips last time I was there. Natio's a nice drugstore brand. Anything American is probably cheaper here than there, so I'm sure your family would appreciate whatever you bring!! I know you can't get strong acids there, so if you know someone who would appreciate babyfacial or the ordinary peel or something, that's probably a good choice.

u/typicalaquarius · 6 pointsr/beyondthebump

Make sure she’s got good posture/support if she’s breastfeeding in bed! It’s probably the source of her back problems. It’s handy to have a pillow like this one for back support and a nursing pillow to hold baby up so she isn’t hunching over.

I asked about this on this subreddit and was recommended this travel neck pillow: http://amzn.com/B004ZIDXK2

The recommendation was detailed enough to convince me so I sprung for it without trying it out.

Well, I recently took a trip to Hawaii (8-10 hour flight) and really liked the pillow. So now, I'm recommending it to you. You can wear it forwards (opening in front) or backwards (opening in back).

  1. The sides are very high so it supports your head as you droop to the sides. Also, if you wear it with the opening in the back, you can nod off forwards and it will support your chin nicely because even though the sides are high, there is a dip in the middle of the U shape for your chin. The foam is comfortable and firm-yet-squishy without having a weird smell. The outer cover zips off for washing.

  2. The only modification I'm planning on doing is removing the little string closer and replacing it with a fat strip of thick Velcro. I think that will be more secure. The string closure thingy is the only weakness in the product.

  3. The little pocket is pretty much useless. My iPhone 4S definitely didn't stay in there.
u/Ryanrealestate · 4 pointsr/backpacking

How much luggage does he travel with and how many countries is he going to? That will determine what’s a good choice.

My fave travel gadgets have been

  1. battery charger, a large one that can go multiple days without charging. And also your friends will like to use.

  4. collapsable water bottle(spending money on bottled water adds up and you can get water after you pass through security for the plane when the air gets dry. I get dry throat on planes)

I have a DHR 6000, but I don't have any other Japanese pillows to compare it too. I would still recommend it to someone in your case. Its still amazingly soft, but with enough firmness to return to its normal shape after you lay with it. Its also thick, and the outer texture manages to secure covers in place quite well.

That being said, a more affordable option might be https://www.amazon.com/COMODO-Original-CMD9000-Dakimakura-Maternity/dp/B07DHSPXTZ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1540533086&sr=8-1&keywords=cmd9000. I've said this a lot in the past couple of days, but if that is authentic its really an amazingly good price. It sure looks legit to me.

u/adanufgail · 3 pointsr/migraine

In addition to the others here who mention posture extends to lying, I'd also mention blood flow. When I get migraines and reach the postdrome phase, there's a period where if I bend over I get stabbing pains straight through the top of my head.

It's very possible the change in blood flow from lying down may be exacerbating your migraine. Do you have a recliner chair that you could lay in to keep your head above your body to test (or a large enough bean bag chair). Or a sitting pillow (like this).

u/cinemakitty · 3 pointsr/ChronicPain

Do it!!!! Take advantage of this amazing opportunity. But take care of yourself.

I recently went on my first vacation since my accident and had the same worries and similar travel times. I did mounds of research (so many hours) on what to use to get more comfortable. Here are my top fave products. I used them all. All deflated or rolled super small and my husband loved them too. I didn’t look like a freak with too many airplane gadgets. Good luck!!!

Obligatory disclaimer: this is all my opinion, not trying to push products, I don’t benefit from this in any way.

the change in manufacturing for DHR6000 was temporary and confined to the summer and fall of 2017 as far as i know. i believe they reverted back when customers noticed a difference and complained. if you don't even want to consider DHR6000, there are many alternatives:

I have to go to physical therapy because of my shoulders/neck due to chronic muscle pain and my PT recommended I buy the lumbar support below. Cabeau Evolution has worked really well for me. The neck height and memory foam is key. It locks your head in.

Everlasting makes what looks to be a cheaper version though I have not tried it personally.

u/PM_ME_CUTE_KAGAMINE · 2 pointsr/Dakimakuras

Is this CMD9000 listing legit? I see other people saying that it should be only around $20 cheaper than the DHR6000, but this is on amazon for less than half the price, with free shipping.

u/somedafthuman · 2 pointsr/Dakimakuras

If you look at the images from the customer reviews, you can see how cheaply the pillow is made. They showcase a lumpy, loosely filled pillow, stating their issues with the thin fabric, poor stitching and overall poor QC. It is unfortunately a cheap and generic Chinese pillow, not that all Chinese pillows are bad. They tend to be cheap because they use thin fabrics and a coarse fill that would initially fill out the pillow without adding too much weight. But, after vacuum packing and shipping, it doesn't usually fluff back to full size because of the relatively small amount of fill. It's easier to make and import pillows that are lightweight.

Considering your budget, you can do better by grabbing yourself the COMODO CMD9900LS - Amazon Link (sold by GIFU SEINOU TRADING)

It's a well-known brand from Japan. Though at 160cm, 150cm cases can fit on it with relatively no issue, assuming that's the size of case you have. The pillow won't stretch the case so much as it will be soft enough to squeeze into it. It'll only give a slightly firmer, fuller feel to the pillow. Though some express concern it may increase the chance of damage to the case, I find it negligible enough with COMODO's pillows. With a more expensive pillow like A&J's DHR6000, it may be an issue as they are filled more generously.

If it does concern you, they do have 150cm variants, the CMD9150 and the CMD9950MS (higher quality). I didn't mention those first because they're not available now from the the seller mentioned above. You can contact the Amazon seller to see if and when they'll import more.

Otherwise you can purchase an empty case and fill it yourself, such as this one specifically design to be an inner case by dakimakuri - dakimakuri Link. If you take the time to properly fill it, the end product would be better than the pillow you were originally looking at.

The difference between a good and bad inner is like day and night, as seen in this recent post on this reddit- Reddit link

The left one is just a regular western body pillow, so several inches shorter, but the Chinese one would be similarly flat. The right one is a CMD9150. The cover is fitted snuggly onto the inner. The cover should not wrinkle much when holding it.

u/TenmaIsMyLight · 2 pointsr/Dakimakuras

Look at the following:

  • Cuddly Octopus
  • Peroperopiroo
  • Dakimakuri

These sites have the "real" daki's with an english interface. They are printed on chinese 2WT so they will be the cheapest options you have avaliable. I only recommend Japanese pillows which are not cheap by any means, this guide goes over different pillows on the market but if you are looking for a cheap option you would want to go with either this or go with a DIY solution using something like this.

You need to keep in mind that this is a Japanese niche hobby and so you don't have an abundance of english sites. It also does not function the same way you might be used to in terms of avaliability for most Japanese covers as they are usually one print run and done.

Also, in this context terms like cheap are relative and therefore useless because to one person $20 is cheap where as for another $200 is. If you have a budget, post it so that we can actually get an idea of what you can afford to get. Lurk for 2 years before posting.
u/Narvinye · 2 pointsr/DesignMyRoom

It's going to be tricky to fit a double bed in that small room, but it can probably be done if you're willing to replace the closet doors. It'll still be a tight squeeze though, and the room will be crowded. I don't think it'll be possible to fit in both a decent sized desk and extra seating.

For the bed, look for something with storage; a platform with drawers and maybe a bookcase-type headboard would give you quite a bit. If you like to read or lounge around on the bed, get a bed rest.

Because the room will be crowded and because you've said it's too dark, a glass desk would be ideal. Try a set-up similar to this one, but measure carefully to make sure you get a desk that will fit into the corner where your bed is now.

For a bit more storage and a place to put a bedside lamp, here's a mostly transparent nightstand.

For lighting, look for lamps that have a shade in a light color. For next to the bed, this one or this one would be good. Get another lamp to sit on the cabinet under the windows. It looks like it's not very wide, so a thin lamp would work well. All of these lamps will take at least a 100W bulb and the glass in the room will help reflect the light. You'll also need a desk lamp.

Here's a floorplan, and as you can see, the bed is taking up most of the space. I'm wondering if the bed will fit on that wall though, because there's a tall white thing? on that wall between the desk and the bookcase and I can't tell if it's built-in or not. I'm assuming it's not since you didn't include that in your measurements, but if it is, I don't think the bed can go on that wall.

I take my McKenzie Roll to all freelance gigs. While it does have lumbar support, it’s also a constant reminder to have shoulders back and chest open. I also recommend installing a Chrome Extension that reminds you to do 20/20/20. Also just making sure you get up, stay hydrated, and get some exercise will help.

It was so difficult to find something that did this trick for my mom. In the end the thing that has helped the most, even now as she's progressed into a fully locked-in lifestyle are those airplane travel pillows (the ones shaped like a big U). We wound up getting like 10 different types, textures, and materials from different manufacturers depending on where she was sitting, and even use one now in her wheelchair -- even though the damn wheelchair headrest was $1k by itself, this $20 neck pillow is ironically what makes it bearable: https://www.amazon.com/Travelmate-Memory-Foam-Neck-Pillow/dp/B004UB056E/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1481137770&sr=8-4&keywords=travel+pillow

Totally depends on what kind of pillow you want!

My husband absolutely loves his memory foam countour pillow, something like this. I got an old friend of mine this pillow after he complained about always getting hot at night and I know he was still using it a year later. I personally just use $5 cheapies for my head but absolutely need a body pillow to get comfortable. I'm considering one like this because it's longer and firmer than the one I have now.

u/jaredharley · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

My brother has the same problem (the jaw popping) and it completely went away when he started sleeping with a buckwheat pillow at night, instead of a regular down pillow. Weird, but a pillow is way cheaper than jaw surgery!

u/1steditionchar1zard · 2 pointsr/Mattress

Hey again, just wanted to follow up because I ordered this pillow - and - this in indeed the exact pillow I've been looking for. Oh my, it's perfect in every way. I'm kind of mad because I wish I had known about this ten years ago. I hope my neck pain goes away but I can already tell I'll be a happy sleeper from here on out. I wanted to thank you for the awesome suggestion!!!

u/havalinaaa · 2 pointsr/breastfeeding

I have one of those reading cushions with arms that I use in bed and it helps a lot. Like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0733ZCSR9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_hjAWCbMQ02NPP

But the one I have was like $12 at Walmart. I'd there breast friend pillow isn't working for you don't bother. I sometimes use a regular throw pillow or just my arms. Keep trying with side lying every few days, my guy hated it at first but now it's his favorite (and mine!).

u/serpentcroissant · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

You're going to buy this. Because I said so. And because That item looks mighty fine.

u/cyberbonotechnik · 2 pointsr/gaming

Back in the day (70s/80s) these were everywhere. I had no idea what they were called, but they still do exist:

https://smile.amazon.com/Linenspa-Shredded-Foam-Reading-Pillow/dp/B0117SNG0O/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1527105086&sr=8-5&keywords=pillow+bed+arms

u/GunStinger · 2 pointsr/Dakimakuras

Cospa isn't bad, but it's not a premium body. From what I've seen on this sub, most people seem to prefer something more in the line of A&J, Comodo or Marshmallow, but those are the more serious collectors.

I was plenty happy with one that was basically Cospa's price-class with more stuffing for many years, though I have a Fules WithAqua now, which I think is the cheapest premium pillow you can get thanks to their ongoing introductory price.

u/nikkarus · 2 pointsr/lifehacks

I am also tall with a long neck and i had to fly 16 hours for work each way. I bought this and it has been the best pillow I've used so far. I actually managed to get a little sleep on the plane.

u/anticausal · 2 pointsr/AdviceAnimals

This is 100 times worse when you're used to sleeping on a buckwheat husk pillow at home.

I'm looking to replace my inner and found these two on Amazon.

  1. COMODO Original High Class Body Pillow CMD9000 Dakimakura Pillow for Anime and Maternity [Made in Japan] (63 x 20 inch (160cm x 50cm))

  2. COMODO Original Luxury Body Pillow CMD9900LS High-End Class Dakimakura Pillow [Made in Japan] (20 x 63 inch (160cm x 50cm))

First, is there any difference in these two that makes one $10 more? Second, does anyone know how these compare to something like a DHR6000 or one of the inners that are often recommended?

Description|Hey everyone! In preparation for my red eye flight in September, I’ve compiled a list of 12 tips to get you asleep on your next overnight flight. The goal is to have a full night sleep on the plane so I can enjoy my first day in Scotland without feeling too weird, tired and cranky. Wet wipes! Getting up to go wash your face is hard so just having those handy was nice as I felt gross and sweaty.

Lots of other great lists on here, but my other thing is, I got one of those pillows with the arm rests - that thing was GOLD

Ohhhh man, I feel ya on the finals! The struggle. Is. REAL. I'm also a final semester senior right now and I have a full blown case of the senioritis right now. GUH, I don't wanna do anything! I just wanna graduate already, enjoy my summer, and start grad school, dangit!

Today I've been cooped up in a lab all day. I got about five hours of sleep, so I'm feeling kinda weird and out of it. My only subjects today are three hours apart too, so my plan was initially work on homework that's due tomorrow, but who am I kidding? I've been in the lab watching SNL on Hulu and checking up on RAOA. =) After my actual research meeting today, I plan on trying to be a bit more productive with my schoolwork, and hopefully cleaning up my room a bit, too. Yeahhhh today's one of those super boring Mondays...X) Sorry I don't have anything more exciting to tell you about today, haha!

For stuff that will help you with your revision I suggest these items: a comfy reading cushion so you can work anywhere and still be comfortable! This lap desk also so you can work anywhere and be comfy- also it gives you a nicer surface for writing or for your laptop. I actually have this lap desk and I love it! I have a 15" laptop, and I still have room on the desk for my mouse. This lap desk could also be used for gaming anywhere with your laptop (that's what I do quite often)! ;D

For revision breaks, I simply suggest going outside! Nothing is more refreshing than nature, my friend. Take a walk, go on a bike ride, just sit outside and read- whatever floats your boat! =D I tried looking on Amazon for some outdoorsy accessories for you, but it's really all personal preference on what sort of outdoor activities you like to do!

As for my wishlist, I'd really like this water bottle for my bike, but I'm honestly fine with anything on my wishlist in your range, so feel free to surprise me if I happen to win!

Who needs revision?! Thank you so much for this contest! And good luck with studying, revising, and of course, on your finals!

Difference in DHR6001 vs DHR4001? From one of the older questions it seemed the 4000 series has a little less filling but is more guaranteed to satisfy.
I personally would like more filling, but from the reviews off of Amazon.jp:
http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00FPEE2WS/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_2?pf_rd_p=187205609&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B00PIM8OTO&pf_rd_m=AN1VRQENFRJN5&pf_rd_r=0XZWH45PAYK8Y0BB1RAT

vs

http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E6%8A%B1%E3%81%8D%E6%9E%95%E6%9C%AC%E4%BD%93-J%E3%82%AA%E3%83%AA%E3%82%B8%E3%83%8A%E3%83%AB-DHR6001-%E3%83%8F%E3%82%A4%E3%82%AF%E3%83%A9%E3%82%B9-150cm%C3%9750cm/dp/B00PIM8OTO

It seemed the 6001 is perceived more negatively, while the 4001 got all favorable reviews. What's the big deal? Should I just order the 4001 to be safe?

I got this recliner cushion from Amazon and never regretted it for an instant: https://www.amazon.com/LINENSPA-Shredded-Foam-Reading-Pillow/dp/B0117SNG0O/ I did need an extra pillow or two to help, but that thing is seriously comfortable for having to sleep upright/reclined. Kind of pricey but SO worth sleeping in comfort.

Before you shell out a lot of money, try adding a lumbar roll to your current chair - something like https://www.amazon.com/OPTP-Original-McKenzie%C2%AE-Lumbar-Roll/dp/B000H48WYA/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1473945712&sr=8-1&keywords=back+support+roll. I used to have bad back pain and tried a variety of crazy chairs, and funny enough, adding this to the most basic office chair is usually the best solution for me. Just adding a little support/pressure in the right place can make a huge difference in your comfort.

u/punkinpye · 1 pointr/whatisthisthing

This is what I use. Amazon carries it. For me, it is just about perfect. Always cool, supportive and really comfortable. Also didn't have a strong chemical odor when it was brand new. Any odor it did have dissipated quickly. I feel really dorky saying this, but it is one of my favorite things.

u/sharxattack · 1 pointr/ftm

Hm... I don't know how widespread the bumps are, but if they're localized to one area, you could invest in a neck pillow so that the area with the bumps doesn't have any pressure put on it.

I don't know if that one's better, but I have an Iso-Cool pillow, and while it's better than nothing, it's not that great. I do have to flip it sometimes.

u/reddilada · 1 pointr/camping

They make inflatable pillows that pack small, but I really don't like them. Your head just kinda rolls off of them.

My favorite is the Thermarest pillow. A proper squishy pillow that stuffs into itself to reduce the size. Comes in a bunch of sizes and colors.

u/MarrCharr · 1 pointr/Dakimakuras

Hey guys new to dakimakuras and recieved mine a few months ago from the Grisia VN Western Release and I have a question or two if you will humor me! :)

  1. I have purchased the http://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00FPEE2WS pillow and I have to say I really like it. I have my Michiru on and have been enjoying the better sleep I have gained from using pillow. The problem is I have heavy night sweats and the pillow has become lumpy and nasty(not to bad but enough where it bothers me). I would say that it is due to the material inside the pillow but I could be wrong. Could someone direct me to another high quality pillow that could serve as either a replacement or companion(Sakaki) that has better materials on the inside? I used to sleep with normal size pillows between my legs at times and no "lumpage" would occur, so my knowledge of all daki pillows fabric and its materials are quite foreign to me.

If possible, can I wash that pillow and perhaps make the lumps go away??

Thanks for any and all help in advance!!

Use one of these when you have to sit for a long time. Also get this book in case the PTs you saw didn't show you this exercise.

Swimming is the best thing you can do for a bad back.

Ginger is a powerful antiinflammatory and it is a lot easier on your system than ibuprofen.

I realize many of these things might be too weak for your pain, but they are all worth a try.

If CBD oil capsules don't work for you see an MD familiar with CBD to see if they can get you some of the more potent products that are available to only MDs.

u/NinSonNar13 · 1 pointr/Dakimakuras

Also, since it doesn't look like anybody has mentioned it, have you considered the actual pillow insert yet?

Almost anybody here would suggest https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00CFG0B3I (or https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B00PIM8OTO if a smaller 150x50cm daki), which is pretty much guaranteed to delight her as it's very soft and squishy while holding it's shape well, but it does unfortunately come with some extra work as it doesn't ship to the US.

I myself don't have any other good substitute suggestions (help anyone?), but if you are willing to put in the extra effort, using a proxy service suggested in the side bar will help you get one.

u/Lizziedeee · 1 pointr/BravoRealHousewives

First of all, if you drive a lot, a McKenzie roll http://www.amazon.com/Original-McKenzie-Lumbar-Roll-OPTP/dp/B000H48WYA?th=1 for your car seat helps a lot. If you're like me and like the seat way back, you need to move it up closer so you're sitting pretty much straight up. One of the sciatica symptoms is if you almost cry getting out of the car, you've got it. The exercises I did were:lying on my stomach on the floor, slowly push up with your arms and arch your back, then slowly back down (should take 20-30 seconds per rep) 15 reps. Then lying on my back with feet in the air (like an L shape) slowly raise your bottom and lower back off the floor. Don't really engage your abs, just try to stretch your lower back. These were recommended to me by a massage therapist friend (after a massage, which might help), I am in no way an authorized medical advice dispenser. Sitting on a medicine ball (instead of a chair at my computer) helped a lot too.

It took about a month to get it better, but I swear, if I had had to live with that pain all my life I would have seriously considered something horrible. The pain is excruciating. It took some time to get that bad so get going on fixing whatever it is sooner rather than later. Good luck.

u/thainomad · 1 pointr/travel

I've been considering getting this pillow.

u/veni_vidi_vale · 1 pointr/headphones

if you want to just listen in bed, sure why not. You can prop up some pillows or use one of these

Sleeping with any headphones is not a good idea, but I guess wearing headphones in bed isn't a new idea because products like these have been around for a long time. Today's equivalent is something like this.

Personally, I'm not a fan of wearing headphones in bed. Maybe if you don't want to wake your significant other when you are watching something on TV after they are asleep.

I am a first time buyer and just pre-ordered Maidoll's Reika cover https://maidoll.booth.pm/items/1215934

I have been doing some research on an inner pillow and came up with three options:

  1. COMODO CMD9900LS: https://www.amazon.com/COMODO-Original-CMD9900LS-High-End-Dakimakura/dp/B07DFJWW86/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1550005417&sr=8-1&keywords=CMD9900LS
  2. dakimakuri pre-order https://dakimakuri.com/shop/item/inner
  3. DHR6000 (anyone know if this is legit?) https://www.amazon.com/Dakimakura-body-pillow-original-DHR6000/dp/B00CFG0B3I/ref=sr_1_6?s=bedbath&ie=UTF8&qid=1550007371&sr=1-6&keywords=dakimakura

Does anyone have any recommendations among the 3? Especially as something starting off, the DHR6000 at $170 feels pretty steep. I was thinking of starting off with a mid-range pillow and upgrading eventually if I felt like it. Any comments is greatly appreciated!

Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional, take my advice with a grain of salt.

My wife suffers from chronic back due to an improperly placed epidural. One thing that helped her was a back brace with lumbar belt. Here's one for reference:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GVO2PVK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3OoQBb524XVBD

There are also bed assist handles. They are secured to the bed, and help the person pull themselves up:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005JIJRZ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_aXoQBbHKRNP8W

Finally, you might consider a reading/seat pillow. It supports you so that you can rest sitting up. My grandmother used one of these to help get out of bed when her sciatica prevented her from being able to get off her back: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0733ZCSR9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_-YoQBbNP02W5K

I'm not sure about exosuits for the elderly, I know that they exist, but i don't know any suppliers. Still, a combination of these (maybe all of them) may help. Best of luck.

u/Skallox · 1 pointr/Dakimakuras

Thanks. I'll make a habit of checking it regular with the sites linked in your ancient post, that seems to be the best way to avoid the terror of missing out.

As a side note, where is the best place to find the 1600mmx500mm pillows? I understand that royalpillow will do them in the states but the options I'm finding that are readily available are:

  1. Buy this 60"x20" pillow and deal with it being a bit too short for 1600x500 pillows and perfect for 1500x500 pillow.

  2. Buy this silly round style of pillow and deal with it being too long for 1500x500, just right for 1600x500 but now everything is cylindrical.
  3. Buy a pillow directly from a retailer like amiami and potentially get gorrila-ass-pounded on shipping costs. Not to mention how quickly this style of generic pillow breaks down.

  4. Buy an air filled pillow and potential puncture and deflate your waifu.

Is there a good/better/best option that I am overlooking?

EDIT: These appear to be the regular suspects here but they're pretty damn expensive. Do you really get what you pay for? DHR6000 and DHR5000.

The DHR 6001 is 150 sized. Most people here seem to suggest just buying a DHR 6000 and removing some stuffing when you want to use a 150 cm cover. I believe amazon stopped shipping them internationally, so you'd have to use a proxy or a forwarder.

I'm a side sleeper and this has saved my life!

u/scumteam14 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Hi OP! That sounds like a really tough situation to be in. Sleep is so incredibly important to mood, health, and mental function! And it sounds like it's affecting your quality of life quite a bit.

That said, this post is a bit off topic for r/SkincareAddiction. Tips for falling and staying asleep would be outside the scope of the sub, even if the underlying decision for various sleep habits is related to a skin concern. I don't think you'll get the support and advice you need here, and I'd highly recommend checking out a more fitting community like r/sleep!

Since sleeping on your back is causing health issues, and sleeping on your side is uncomfortable because your face gets squished, maybe check out one of those U-shaped travel pillows? I'm a side sleeper and I use something similar to this one to alleviate pressure on new ear piercings. I just use it as a regular pillow (not around the neck), and it provides support without putting a lot of pressure on my ear/cheek area. I'm sure r/sleep has more comfortable recs though, and I can't see that being a long-term solution - moreso for getting sleep asap while working through the underlying causes.

And while it's normal to worry about sleep (like how much you're getting), being anxious about actually being asleep due to lack of control sounds exhausting (pun not intended). Even if you get the comfort angle all sorted out, it sounds like there's some stuff unrelated to physical comfort that's disrupting your sleep as well. I imagine that working through those fears would help you feel more comfortable while falling asleep!

I'm not sure what your support network looks like, but you might want to check out communities like r/CBT for advice on self-help, or get in touch with a therapist to help guide you through it.

I hope that you find some ways to get to sleep soon!

u/edmandarnditt · 1 pointr/piercing

This has happened to me with a few of my ear piercings. I get the piercing and there's no residual pain, so after a couple days, I feel like it's safe to sleep on. And I'm wrong. So then it feels bruised for a while.

For fresh ear piercings, you might want to get a neck pillow or a side sleeper so you can comfortably sleep on your side without mashing your ear into the pillow.

u/woogydumplings · 1 pointr/ftm

Heya! I had surgery yesterday and everything is going surprisingly smooth! I have almost no pain since I’m up on my medications, and everyone at the centre is soooo so nice and reassuring. You sign in and can go in a pre op room to wait with whoever comes with you (if you want them there) and Genoway, the nurse, and the anesthesiologist all come to talk to you separately and give you lots of time to ask any questions you want to. Then you go in to the OR and lay down, and then you basically just wake up! They’ll keep you for an hour or so and then you’re free to go.

The first day you’re gonna be super out of it and walking around like Frankenstein, but I’m already ok enough to get up and down off the couch on my own and go to the bathroom and stuff. Someone in this thread recommended getting an airplane neck pillow and I 1000% second that. I’ve been sleeping sitting up with a armchair pillow thing (https://www.amazon.ca/Milliard-Reading-Pillow-Shredded-Memory/dp/B0733ZCSR9/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=3FLZU2CCE61LB&keywords=milliard+reading+pillow&qid=1556637693&s=gateway&sprefix=milliaed+rea&sr=8-2 ) and a neck pillow and it’s been way more comfortable than I thought!

You’re gonna do totally awesome 💪 I can’t say anything for results yet, but the surgery itself was not as bad or scary as I thought it’d be, haha

No, there are some minor variations in size. 160x50cm is by far the most common size, however, there are some companies that still use 150x50cm, which was previously the industry standard.

If you want the absolute best pillow, the DHR6000 (or DHR6001 if you buy that pillow, since it's 150x50cm) is the pillow that I personally recommend, but it isn't cheap. It's also only available on sites that don't ship internationally, so you'd have to use a proxy service to order it. If you're interested, you can find a listing for it here.

Pillow
Alright so the first part of a pillow is knowing the size you need, are your covers that you have, or are interested in 150x50 or 160x50.

The problem with I think any body pillow is, is the fact that they will sag/flatten over time of use. The higher quality pillow, the longer they will generally last. I have never used a Walmart body pillow, but I can only assume the quality of that pillow is far inferior to almost any other pillow, especially because it only costs 12$. If you are using the dakimakura for usage, you have to invest in 2 different products. The pillow and ofcourse the dakimakura.

If you want to avoid having a somewhat high cost for a body pillow, you are rather limited in your options. I assume that you are from the United States, I assume this because you are talking about Walmart. In the United States you have a decently priced option for a pillow and the shipping shouldn't be too high in price.

So are those pillows really good? I only have experience with the Cluster fiber or Polyester Fiber version (Can't remember which one I had). Was it good? Uhmmm due to the fact it was my first body pillow I thought it was oke. It started flattening still rather quickly though. And for the cost of the product I couldn't expect anything more really. Non the less I used it for a bit over a year, this was mostly because the cost of a pillow is much higher for me. In Europe there is no option like royalpillow for a low priced pillow that had the size I needed. If you are searching for a 160x50 you have to call them to order the custom product, this is not a size they have on their website.

The pillow we recommend though is a different story in price. It's the DHR6000. This is a pillow that's a much higher quality, the actual product cost is around 80$. But it ships from Japan, so the shipping cost will be another 70$ I think. Is ~150$ worth it to you? That is all up to you, that is the pillow I would recommend. For me, it was worth the extra investment. The DHR6000 is 160x50, for the 150x50 you will need the DHR6001

Dakimakura
A dakimakura is the actual cover of the body pillow. You said you purchased your covers from the likes of Amazon and Ebay for less than 50$. This is a clear sign you are buying bootleg covers.

What does a bootleg cover mean you might ask. A bootleg cover means the art on that cover is stolen from artist and used without permission of the artist. That is why you will be able to find those covers for so cheap, they didn't need to invest in the art. A bootleg cover you can purchase from anywhere between 40$ up to 90$ if I remember correctly. Those prices are considered cheap in this hobby. The lower the price the worse the quality of the material. But I'll come back on the material topic.

Next to bootleg covers, there are another 2 classifications of covers. These other 2 classification are considered the legitimate market in comparison to the bootleg market which is considered illegitimate.

Doujin / Circle cover. These covers are created by artists from the fan base. This is by far the most common sort of cover amongst the legitimate covers. The price for these covers are normally 12000 yen(~100$). And they are made from 2WT(Best material). You can either get them while they are up in their preorder period or on the second hand market.

Officially licensed covers. These covers are made by the likes of COSPA and are made with full permission from the company behind the character that is depicted on the cover. These will cost around 10k yen (~85$), but are printed on materials such as Smooth Knit (Half way in between material). It is difficult to find the character you want in these classification.

Material
As brutal as it may sound. But the only material you want for your dakimakura is 2 Way Tricot (2WT), every other material is inferior and is kind of a waste of money really.

In the 2WT material group there is a lot of different, all depending on the manufacturer. Bootlegs offer 2WT as well, but they are at the worst end of the 2WT group, the preferred 2WT are from A&J and P80(There are more, but these ones came up in my head first).

The covers you have are made from Peach skin, this is quite clear because of the price you paid. And all I can say is, you do not want peach skin. The material just feels off, the print quality ain't even good. There is no stretch in the material.

How to spot a bootlegger
I will just quote a previous post from /u/DakimakuraGuy for this.

  • If the site is in English, it's probably a bootlegger. The few exceptions to this are big Japanese sites that also run an English store (Mandarake, Hobby Search, AmiAmi, etc..)

  • Generally, legit covers run ~/> $100, and the price will almost always be in yen (regular MSRP is usually 12000 yen.) That doesn't mean you won't find deals for less than that, but if a site its selling nothing but covers in the $40-80 range, it's probably a bootlegger.

  • If a site offers multiple materials types for every cover listed, it's probably a bootlegger. If a site offers peachskin, *it is a bootlegger.

Those tips are probably enough to weed out 90% of the bootleggers you'll come across. The other 10% can be a bit trickier, so if you ever have any questions feel free to ask.

If you are willing to invest more in your dakimakura and need help finding a cover, or searching through the Japanese sites. You are always welcome to ask for help here. In the case of the price range you are searching, I can't help you further because I don't advocate the willingly knowing purchase of bootlegged covers.

Load up your phone with your favorite media - podcasts, TV shows, movies. I like to use travel time to start a new show or to read a new book. Bring earplugs and an eye mask (the last 9 hour flight I was on never turned off the overhead lights once). Bring a portable charger or power bank. On your trip, don't be afraid to slow down, take a nap, or spend an hour drinking a cup of coffee at a cafe.

Wear comfortable clothing in the plane, especially shoes. Most museums and major attractions will give you the option to buy an online ticket and skip the lines - do this ahead of time! Then you won't have to wait in a super long ticket line before getting into the entry line.

Do your research and plan out what major attractions you have to see. Then be flexible in your plans and be prepared to make adjustments if something is closed or if it just doesn't work out.

This is the best neck pillow I have ever bought:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009416CVC/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1495001757&sr=8-13&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Neck+pillow

Another redditor recommended it and it is the only pillow I've tried that actually supports your neck. My boyfriend always tries to steal it from me.

So first off, I have several questions. I'm very new to this so I have no idea where to start. There's really only two covers I want to get: Saber Alter and Rin Tohsaka from Fate. I would love to find a nice Mordred cover, but I haven't found any that I like. I also know that that's how this starts and will likely buy more in the future. "I only want this or that and won't buy another". Damn myself for being such a materialist!

Anyways, I really like this one simply because it lines up with UFOtables look for Saber, (https://peroperopiroo.moe/shop/saber_alter_dogfucker.html) though I don't know which option to pick for the material. Is Chinese 2wt good to go with or should I upgrade? I will def. be going for the "family friendly" version.

As for the Rin Tohsaka one, (original: https://eveningcall.net/InformationDetail.aspx?NewsId=437 updated version: https://eveningcall.net/InformationDetail.aspx?NewsId=347) I've had my eye on one of these by Evening Call. They seem to be quite rare sadly, which is a shame as this artist is the only one I've seen do a Tohsaka design that I really like. All the others make her look way too young or don't get the style just right for my tastes. So any suggestions on finding this one would be greatly appreciated. I've been recommended some sites by a user already, but I figured I'd post here anyway. Thanks BTW, I'll keep an eye on those sites you suggested! u/DakimakuraGuy

For the inner pillow, should I just go with my gut and get one from Dakimakuri or should I go with this? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DFJWW86/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A1WC95IIGIP2OA&psc=1 The reviews make me not want to buy it, but I saw that one user posted a fix to the slipping covers by placing an extra cover underneath the main one. I'm thinking the Dakimakuri, though there's no reviews for their inner pillows yet...

u/SadPanda28 · 1 pointr/Dakimakuras

I wanna know what's the current "top tier" inner pillow on the market right now. Back then it used to be DHR6000 but the recent amazon reviews are quite low and complains about how it's using a different material now (based from the reviews I think it started at late 2016), then I managed to stumble upon this which has better reviews and for only a fraction of the price. I just wanted to hear some thoughts and extra options if there are any.

  • Get one of these
  • Reset your natural body clock by eating your last meal 12 hours before you want to wake up.
  • Take advantage of the free booze on the flight.
u/echevez · 1 pointr/financialindependence

I love the bag I have. I got it back when it was on sale for like 70 bucks. I use it as my carry on for every flight I take. This eye mask, neck pillow, and ear plug combo was a lifesaver on a red eye I took last year as well

u/Delslayer · 0 pointsr/Minecraft

You should also buy her one of these; no idea how she can be comfortable laying with the computer like that.

u/SamaritanDecima · 0 pointsr/Dakimakuras

So I finally see Amazon US got a seller that offers prime shipping for their Comodo pillow - https://www.amazon.com/COMODO-Original-CMD9900LS-High-End-Dakimakura/dp/B07DFJWW86 instead of going through Zenmarket/Proxy...

Now, what difference between CMD9900LS and AJ DHR6000? I been snooping around this r/ and I see comments about the new DHR is no longer Japanese cottons and it oversea ones, is it worth buying it as suppose to CMD9900?
And lastly, I own a CMD9150, how do I re-fluff the mid-section of the pillow?

Thanks
