Actually, a pretty nice frame and headboard, I think! Nothing super showy or anything, it's this guy:

This is what they made the bunkbed desks for. It's a bunkbed but instead of the lower bed it's a workdesk for homework. My buddy's daughter has that in her small room and works great - Wish I had one as a kid.
Something like this:

Not sure if this is in your budget, but what I did is get this platform bed frame instead of a box spring. This opens up a lot of under the bed storage space. I store Rubbermaid plastic totes filled with canned and dehydrated food, 7 gallon aquatainers, and 5 gallon buckets of bulk grains there. I move around a lot so this foldable bed frame works great for me and let's me keep my preps out of sight and out of the way.

Looks a little like the bracket off an old bed that would hold the button type head of a metal bed rail. I have some old metal beds with similar looking brackets.
eta- here's a similar looking double claw hook for a wooden bed frame

Zinus Gulzar Easy Assembly Quick Lock 1.6 Inch Bunkie Board / Bed Slat Replacement, Queen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072HTRVM1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Ik9ADbQ3BGENH I’m considering using this
I bought this bed a few months ago and I love it. Doesn't have a fancy headboard or anything but it was very easy to put together and looks very chic/minimalist.
This was a great buy. But look at the other Zinus models as well. Easy to assemble. Good quality. Link:https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Platform-Mattress-Foundation-Boxspring/dp/B00WNF6GAI

Edit: Since there seems to be demand Amazon page, now without weird referral code.

I guess it was actually less than 99. Works well in our guest room.
But can you keep a boyfriend or girlfriend with that set up? You should definitely buy a $100 bed frame off amazon, I love mine. Check out the Zinus brand. I mean a decent bed seems like a very important piece of life..

Don't use a solid material as it will retain moisture and grow mold. Humans sweat a LOT.
Just install a regular slatted bed frame. It's lightweight and inexpensive.
Edit: or possibly even this
The version from the video is only 130 bucks

I got this bed frame from Amazon. Wanted something low profile and minimal since I don't like the look of tall beds.
So in doing my research on these blankets I stumbled upon interesting products I had no idea existed that may be game changers for you:
BedJet
Brookstone Bed Fan
Bed fans?! For under your sheets or blankets?! I don’t “sleep hot” but can imagine this might just be the greatest idea ever for those who do...
OP, it's time for you to invest in a memory foam mattress topper. i just wondered why i never felt that my butt made my sleep uncomfortable and realized i've been sleeping on memory foam since fourth grade.
i put a foam on top of a board like this https://smile.amazon.com/Zinus-Assembly-Quick-Bunkie-Replacement/dp/B072HTRVM1/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1526169463&sr=8-8&keywords=bed+board with no mattress. it's good if you like firm beds
I love the Zinus brand off Amazon. I have their black metal bedframe and it's survived a few moves from me with zero problems. It's crazy cheap, but very stable/sturdy. I'm really impressed that after being disassembled and reassembled a few times, it's still completely sturdy with no sway/give. I consider it one of my random "cheap-but-randomly-bifl" purchases.
I can't speak to the upholstered versions, but I like my decor clean/modern, so it really works for that.
I have disassembled and reassembled probably well over 600 beds in my time.
I can tell you from personal experience the rockler kit does not stand up to repeated assembly and disassembly, especially after it the frame starts to develop a bit of slack. Discovery of this type of hardware also usually results in an increased usage of foul language by the re-assembler.
Beds built with these types of hooks and the metal pins that go along with them, seem to be able to be reassemble and dissasembled nearly indefinetly without issue, and tool free.
Like /u/turbotaco22 I went with a Zinus 14" or 16" (preferred) metal frame off Amazon and hid everything underneath with a good bedskirt.
I bought this one and this headboard but unfortunately they don't connect very well. I had to use metal zip ties to attach the headboard to the frame.
Underneath I use these Ikea bins to store my stuff .
These bed frames by Zinus are great. You just have to unfold it and put the corner braces in place. No tools. Took me less than 10 minutes to do it myself. I have the 18" one and keep large Rubbermade totes under it. There's more storage under my bed than in my closet.

I would consider nicely laid out wall art, a different lamp, and camouflage for the garbage bin. I like your desk and your white shelves. Get some bedding that looks nice. Maybe once you've selected wall-art there will be a colour that pops, and you could get a throw pillow or two in that colour. Consider a cover for the box springs. I threw out my box springs a few months ago, and got one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Platform-Support-Mattress-Foundation/dp/B071CLSZ9R/ref=sr_1_17?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1527258895&sr=1-17&keywords=zinus+bed+frame
Zinus Suzanne Metal and Wood... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075FFG9ZH?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I got it on amazon actually! There are a bunch of cool options online- I just search “modern male bed frame” lol
Edit- Lull is the mattress brand

i bought this frame on amazon about a year ago for $50, & it's been great. i took the headboard from my old wood frame & attached it directly to the wall.
Zinus Compack 9-Leg Support Bed Frame, for Box Spring & Mattress Set, Queen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EYN1NEG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_vdWuvm8o12FoW
Thanks! I use this bed frame from Amazon ($45) which I like because it has square legs (instead of the legs with wheels on them), and it folds down really small, which was great when we were moving. The headboard comes with all of the hardware and just screws into existing panels on the frame. Some people on Amazon said they screwed it into the wall to avoid it moving, so that's an option to, if that's what you're into. Hope that helps!
Amazon, of course. Look for 16 or even 18 inch high frames. I even found an open-box one for even cheaper.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017YETJFG
Also live in a basement apartment. Get one of these to keep your bed off the ground in case of flooding (and also bugs):
https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-SmartBase-Foundation-Replacement-Noise-Free/dp/B017YETJFG/ref=lp_3733101_1_9?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1498783775&sr=1-9
What about this platform bed from Amazon?
Amazon!
If you have the space to transport get a folding foam mattress like this one.
Best Choice Products 4in Thick Folding Portable Full Mattress Topper w/ High-Density Foam, Washable Cover https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01INZBCJG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_b6rlDb7ACS9NC
Almost as good as sleeping on a real mattress.
Then the pro move is to get a folding bed frame with tall legs. This frame will fit above most storage bins, definitely the blacks ones with yellow lids! Now you don’t have to sleep on the floor AND you have storage for your bins!
Zinus Casey 18 Inch Premium SmartBase Mattress Foundation / 4 Extra Inches high for Under-bed Storage / Platform Bed Frame / Box Spring Replacement / Strong / Sturdy / Quiet Noise-Free, Full https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017YETJFG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_M-rlDbTKAH4X0
I got the full size mattress and frame and it’s turned our 10x14 Kodiak into an actual bedroom.
Yea, the shipping time was a bummer, but hopefully that wait will be worth it. Here is the frame we got, its the same as the one on their site just cheaper and Ken, the owner of AZPM recommended it:
Zinus Smart Base
I did look at the Eco sleep but I don't think it's all natural Talalay and we liked the CombiZone coils which are an upgrade from the uniform coils of the Eco Sleep. We figured if we were going to spend on a mattress, we might as well drop two hundred more and get a better mattress. You can definitely feel the zoned coils.
You've probably got 50% more usable room than I do then lengthwise. If it doesn't fit as is, I recommend making a platform and making it fit. It's pretty dirt simple. I used one of these, unbolted the two halves, ratchet strapped them back together with 1 section of overlap (to shorten the platform), and built some stands to keep it elevated over the chairs. There's plenty of storage space under the bed, too. The entire thing collapses for storage by just loosening the ratchet straps, which lets the contraption fold freely. It can also easily be broken down into halves by completely removing the straps. Either way takes <1 minute.
Let me know if it works out and I hope you have that awesome vacation :).
actually, i'd try amazon. we got a really amazing mattress, topper, and headboard/bed frame for about $1000 and they delivered right to our door.
if you are looking for something cheaper, this mattress is shockingly comfortable - we have it in our guest room and my VERY picky best friend loved it. you can get a great bed frame for cheap, too, there are a bunch on amazon.
i'm all for shopping local, but easy is also important.
Don't know what you call fiber board, but the one I know is heavier than plywood, not by much, but heavier. The problem with wood is not the weight but the volume. If i build a steel bed frame being conscious about the weight and compare it to a similar one (by weight) made of wood, the steel one would bend/flex more easily than the wood one, but it would take less space.
Take for example this bed frame, a similar one made out of wood would be bulkier, and maybe even stronger considering how your average vandweller(myself included) uses 2x4 for everything and cheaper.
For panelling I was considering using sheets of plastic instead of the usual 1/8" plywood but decided against because of the price and weight.
If you are smart about designing your wood interior you can make a pretty sturdy build without much added weight, but it takes time, and trial and error to get it right, while slapping some 2x4 together with some 2" wood screws is faster.
Sorry, standard bed frame and just attaching the head board to that for the look. Like this one. Zinus Michelle Compack 9-Leg Support Bed Frame, for Box Spring and Mattress Set, Queen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EYN1NEG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FphqDbS73T96T
What do you think of something like this :
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MEF5EN2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A2GR2IFME0Y1HB&psc=1
It's of course much more basic but I'm attracted to it because it's simple and maybe more versatile in that I can change the look with pillows etc much easier since there's no headboard.
Thanks whoever mentioned it was called a bunkie board like this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074TN94VV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_Gm7XCbBKBVPNG check the requirements for a foundation. Some require no more than 3 inches open between boards.
will this work for a memory foam mattress like the casper:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074TN94VV/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
I avoid anything cloth that cannot be machine washed, I just got this bed frame for $300, very solid and does not squeak, stylish and can be wiped down easily with a rag. Zinus also has many other products in different styles/colors and I have had no issues with them (Forgot some screws on the last one and overnighted them directly to me).
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075FFG9ZH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
What are your thoughts on this? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074TN94VV/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was going to do something similar but we found these on Amazon and it was much cheaper than trying to build our own.
Amazon
Headboard is built by me, Frame is just a cheap Amazon one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXM1FE6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_r3jMDbGB8KA95
Strong storage beds that are strong are gonna be hella pricey. You need to reinforce from frame to floor not just frame or the bed will start to wobble and eventually fall. It is like standing on a cheap table the top will probably not break but the legs might snap.
Honestly i would recommend one of these frames. Its $60 and 14 inches off the ground so you can fit an entire laundry hamper under there.
I suggest buying this a $10 bed skirt and some large containers for organization. I have a queen size version of this that has a full sized laundry hamper and 3 large tupperware containers under it. They are holding my winter bedding and all my winter clothes like my jackets, gloves, boots ect.
I'm not a fan of collapsible metal frames so I am probably not the best person to ask. I prefer solid wood frames, with wood slats.
But since you did ask, I would not get the one you referenced. I do not like those wire-thin supports at all. I imagine they will slowly cut indentations into the foam base of the mattress. But if you like that general design, here is a similar one except with steel bar supports rather than wire-thin supports:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BWC1UDG
Even so, the spaces between the metal bars are wide, more than 5-inch I think. I suggest either taking the cardboard box the frame comes in and covering over the surface of the bed frame with cardboard, or else get some hardboard or pegboard from Home Depot to cover the frame with (try to get something that does not have any formaldehyde in it)
A twin bed is not embarrassing at all, since you are in college, and it can fit two people, but it's obviously not ideal. If you or the person you bring home are a bit larger, it's going to be a tight squeeze. I'm over 6 feet tall, so I don't fit in a twin bed with another person. When I started having girlfriends and hookups, the first thing I did was replace my twin bed with a full size. I would only advise keeping the twin bed if you have severely limited space or a lack of full/queen size beds available in your area.
You can probably get a cheap/free full or queen size bed on Craigslist. If you can only find the mattress/boxspring set, the actual bed frame you want is just a standard no-frills frame (no headboard or anything fancy), which will cost about $40 new at a department store or may be available free or super cheap on Craigslist. Here's one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015IHMK5C/ You don't need to go buy a new bed at a mattress store or anything. A lot of these things, as well as sheets and whatnot, are also available at thrift stores.
So yeah, it's okay to have a twin bed, but you can and probably should get a bigger bed with little or no financial investment.
Go for https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-SmartBase-Mattress-Foundation-Replacement/dp/B00BWC1UDG seems it's might be a good product for reasonable price
Do you have a box spring or is it on wood slats?
If you have a box spring with your mattress, this type of very basic frame works well They fold up really small for moving and are very easy to set up. It's the type I have on my bed and the type a friend had on her bed when I helped her move a couple weekends ago.
They also attach easily to most head boards. A metal headboard like this attaches with just a couple bolts and nuts I have a very similar one and it's very easy to move. You'll notice on the bottom of this upholstered headboard at the bottom of the posts there are two holes. Those holes will line up with the metal bed frame listed above and connected with bolts and nuts.
My parents who are in their 60s with little wood working experience just built one using this kit. It takes a bit of time but it turned out great! Kit comes with a detailed instructional video and all the hardware needed for the bed, all you need to supply is the wood and paint.
Well then don't fret, they have a kit for all sizes!
[Right here] (https://www.amazon.com/Queen-Size-Deluxe-Murphy-Bed-Vertical/dp/B00CYPV29W)
It was around $300 Canadian. Here's the one that I got: https://www.amazon.ca/DHP-5440096-X-Loft-Bunk-Bed/dp/B004LQ1R06/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1539788287&sr=8-8&keywords=loft+bed
was this the frame you bought?
Zinus Modern Studio 10 Inch Platform 2000 Metal Bed Frame/Mattress Foundation, no Boxspring needed, Wooden Slat Support, Queen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WNF6GAI/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_EZK7xbFQ6A5W0
I actually did look at this bed, but was worried that several reviews talked about how noisy it was.
I love this bed frame Zinus Demetric 14 Inch Elite SmartBase - https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-SmartBase-Mattress-Foundation-Replacement/dp/B00BWC1UDG
And I am a huge advocate of DIY Latex mattresses.

Zinus Upholstered Square Stitched Platform Bed with Wooden Slats, King https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00W4DCVLW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_2AvkxbZQWV70R
Or this
I can buy hooks pretty easily, e.g. http://www.amazon.com/BedClaw-Hook-Plates-Wooden-Beds/dp/B004HITCXC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1398208025&sr=8-1&keywords=bed+hooks or http://www.amazon.com/BedClaw-Retro-Hook-Plates-Wooden-Restoration/dp/B005LVMST4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1398208042&sr=8-3&keywords=bed+hooks so I'm not too worried about that.
I'm not sure that I'll be able to re-use the existing bed rails as I need to add both width and length.
So essentially you bolted a block into the headboard (into the existing holes), drilled holes farther down the block (to add width), and then attached your new side rails to the block? Do you have a picture? How stable is it?
This is the one I bought 3 years ago. Has held up great and it's super quick to put together.
Zinus Quick Snap TM 14 Inch Platform Bed Frame / Mattress Foundation / with Less than 3 Inch Spacing / Wooden Slat Support / no Bolts or Nuts / Easy Assembly, King https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MEF5EN2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ArK.zbY0W91D2
https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-SmartBase-Foundation-Replacement-Noise-Free/dp/B006MIQKJE
This frame seems pretty cheap.
Am I gonna regret this?
I recently built a murphy bed and would recommend that you use a kit that has the end legs like this (https://www.amazon.com/Queen-Size-Deluxe-Murphy-Bed-Vertical/dp/B00CYPV29W). I did not and it is a lot more work and does not look as nice.
For the color i recently built a vanity with solid birch and also have cabinets that are birch. It tends to have knots and it's natural finished look is very similar to hickory so getting a clean look like this with solid birch rail and stiles might be tough. You could probably get some cherry plywood and some Cherry stick on edge banding and that would provide you with the look from the picture.
I bought a metal frame on Amazon which has brackets you can get to attach head/foot/side boards. Solid, eliminates the need for a box during, and you can dress it up how you want.
Zinus 14 Inch SmartBase Mattress Foundation / Platform Bed Frame / Box Spring Replacement / Quiet Noise-Free / Maximum Under-bed Storage, Twin XL https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006MIQKJE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_vt.xybJVWV4P1
Get a large piece of art that fits with your style (photo print, canvas, whatever--I got a big canvas of a British Airways Concord above my bed) for the wall on the right. Get a headboard check out overstock.com, they have some great ones. Or you can get some on amazon for like 80 [Modway Lily Queen Upholstered Linen Headboard in Gray] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVW3TXA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_UjAtybSGF1Q06). Paint 2 walls grey and 2 either a muted green or blue (I was always taught to put cool colors in the bedroom).
That's my thought, too. Memory foam mattresses (like Caspers) need flat surfaces (i.e. those slats).
https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Platform-Mattress-Foundation-Boxspring/dp/B00WNF6GAI/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1521138701&sr=8-8&keywords=memory+foam+mattress+box+foundation
You mean something more expensive than this one for $40 off amazon? It is a sturdy metal bed frame.
It all depends one what you want in a place and what style you’re looking for.
Your biggest issue to simply put it, it looks like a room of a 14 year old. This is for a variety of reasons. What I’m going to say obviously will include my taste, which you may or may not like.
-Your posters look awful to be frank. I think those are beyond framing even. You also have a bad number, it’s too much and not enough. Some people make a whole wall of posters which looks good, some people have just 2 in frames and that looks alright. You have a bad number and they look beaten up. What I would do instead is take them all out of view, get one really big painting or a really big poster that you like and frame it. A big canvas you like would be pretty nice as well. On the left wall. Maybe the right also. Can probably keep the clock but hang it better.
-I personally dislike that desk very much. Get a different one.
-Cable management
-Get a cactus or some kind of easy managed small plant.
-Get you a new backpack that doesn’t look like a 14 year olds.
I know I mentioned get a few things, if money is an issue, look at Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist. If you’re in college I guarantee you there are plenty of new grads selling stuff on the cheap. Barely used and matching stuff.
My thing is your place doesn’t look masculine at all. It looks like a teenage boys room. And I know you’re in college, but that’s my opinion. Of course, this is my personal taste.
Edit: Absolutely get rid of that color disco ball. And I assume that is a speaker/sound system is what’s below it. It’s much too big for your space. Get a better, more compact one, and put it on aforementioned bookshelf.
Edit:
here is a bed frame for cheap
here is a link to cheap twin sheet sets
There are metal bed frames with metal slats.
14 Inch Metal Platform Beds w/ Heavy Duty Steel Slat Mattress Foundation (No Box Spring Needed) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CVQNKP5/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_0WMRDbVWPFM3G
And a metal slat platform if you already have a frame.

50$ bed frame buy it
So. I've decided i'm going for that dresser. But for the bed frame I have this frame. Should i go to home depot and buy some MDF planks to run on top of it for my memory foam mattress or buy a new frame? Also the room was bigger than i thought the official size is 18ft X 20ft. As for the table. Would it be better to buy a new table? I like this one but if it's a eye sore I'd rather replace it.
Zinus Compack Adjustable Steel Bed Frame, for Box Spring & Mattress Set, Fits Full to King https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IGGJQ6O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_OL2vzbGM8H1D7
If you don't have a box spring though, the platform frames are $75.
Amazon sells some very low-to-the-ground platform bed frames that serve a similar purpose. We have this one, and it puts our mattress at about the same height as my son’s toddler bed: https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Platforma-Mattress-Foundation-Boxspring/dp/B01LXM1FE6/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=22QU7KSK3PDY8&keywords=low%2Bbed%2Bframe&qid=1557178239&s=gateway&sprefix=low%2Bbed%2B&sr=8-3&th=1&psc=1
We have one! We live in a 700sq ft 2 bed apartment and we put the Murphy bed in 3 years ago when I started working from home. My office is also the guest room. We bought one of the kits that provides all the instructions and hardware and cut the wood ourselves.
A couple of notes:
It def did not destroy the wall.
It has changed the way we use the space, in such a positive way.
The precision of the cuts was REALLY important.
And having enough space to cut, and assemble the bed was a challenge.
The legs provided in the kit are garbage- we don’t use them- we made alternatives
10/10 we would build and use a Murphy bed again. It is so convenient. Since we did it our friends and family have done the same. This is the kit we used (I think): Murphy bed
Another vote for Zinus, but in a different flavor. Zinus Elite Mattress Foundation. We have three of these, and they're solid. They're foldable, and they assemble in minutes with zero tools.
Yep
Similar to the other, but here's my shot
http://imgur.com/UUfaIKM
This is small enough to where you might want a pull-down bed like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Queen-Size-Deluxe-Murphy-Bed-Vertical/dp/B00CYPV29W
Get a bed frame. The whole box can transmit more noise than 4-9 little legs.
This looks fine.
Zinus Compack Adjustable Steel Bed Frame, for Box Spring & Mattress Set, Fits Twin to Queen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015IHMK5C/
