I have an identical one from Amazon and sleep on it every night. It's fantastic. No wiggling or squeaking even during sexy times. Was able to set it up by myself in half an hour. Link

I got some stuff to fill the space.

A work in progress and i like how it's going. These huge walls are killing me. I'm waiting for a matching book case to land on craigslist for the other side of the desk. Also waiting for a unique awesome coffee table to catch my eyes. More updates to come!

Oh yea... the bed is off the ground on this.

I'll be replacing the legs on that couch to some of these.

Any comments? I'm totally willing to build off recommendations!

  • Seconding /u/joefraz78's recommendation for a headboard. Or, think about upgrading your frame at some point to a something with a headboard; wood could look nice and you could eventually update your other pieces to go with it.

  • Since your bedframe is very utilitarian, and you're storing stuff under it, consider a bedskirt, or a blanket that's one size up from your bed (looks like a full, so a queen blanket).

  • If it wouldn't stick out too far for your tastes, consider rotating the bed 90 degrees so that your head is on the same wall as the dresser, leaving space between the side of the bed and the wall for your nightstand. It will look more intentional and make it easier to make the bed/change the sheets. It might even work slightly better with your TV location.

  • Lighting makes a huge difference. Overhead tends to be the harshest; everything looks better in a soft warm glow. Consider a lamp for your nightstand for reading and general ambiance -- this one has an interesting industrial look and isn't too cheesy. Think about adding a second lamp on top of your dresser, too.

  • If you have the budget for it, think about upgrading that TV stand. No judgment, we all had ones like that in our first apartments too! But a console style with some concealed storage would look more polished.

  • Art! Not sure if you can hang stuff on your walls, but Etsy and the internet are full of gorgeous inexpensive prints. Maps (nautical, star, vintage), minimal black-and-white photography, landscapes -- you name it, it's out there and you can order it. You can get fairly inexpensive frames at a craft store (Michaels, A.C. Moore, whatever you have where you are) to dress them up. If you can't put nails in the walls, Blu-Tack is good for hanging stuff without damaging the piece or the wall.

  • It may seem weird to put a rug on top of wall-to-wall, but it can make your room feel more put-together and cohesive. Plus, you can use it in your next place. Jute is usually pretty inexpensive and comes in various colors (in a small room I'd stick with a light color so as not to overwhelm the space).

  • Clear surfaces make a room feel calmer. If you have somewhere to store the stuff currently on top of your dresser (shoutout to a fellow Cornelia Funke fan), you'll probably feel better every time you walk in. Ditto for the nightstand; I'd tuck away everything you aren't using daily.

  • And finally, the obligatory plant recommendation. If you take some of the ideas above, you'll have a few different places you can put a plant. Succulents are almost impossible to kill.

Parkview Full Workstation Loft Bed Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0011E1ZDA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_XuKsDbMDT6JDN

My husband and I used to have this one. Held us both just fine and the desk worked great. Also nice because it only took an Allen wrench (included) to assemble. $500 and we gave it to a roommate when we finally got a new frame. Lasted over three years (haven’t talked to the old roommate so idk the current status). Only thing I’ll say is it was generally quiet, but not 100% squeak free.

u/codeplaysleep · 3 pointsr/Parenting

We got our kiddo a loft bed when they were 12. I think with a lot of loft beds, you use thinner bunk bed mattresses. However, we didn't want to do that for comfort reasons, and because we'd just bought them a nice mattress the year before. We got this one. It's metal, fits a regular mattress (full-size, not a twin) with plenty of height left on the railing, and 6yrs later, it's still solid as a rock. We haven't even ever had to tighten bolts. I think we paid around $700 for it, but it's held up so well that it's been worth the money. Our plan was to buy something that would last through college. I suspect this will last much longer.

u/Slacker5001 · 3 pointsr/BDSMcommunity

I bought a metal bed frame back in high school before I really was thinking about kink. It's still with me at 24 years old and actually has a ton of places to tie to unintentionally. It's not noisy in any way, even after 8 years, and was reasonably priced where I got it.

A bed frame like this one has a lot of little places you can tie to without modification. And it's metal so it tends to be pretty durable (I've had my bed frame for 8 years now, still holding up strong).

No bed should ever be squeaky out of the factory/box. If it is, something is likely not tightened quite right.

As to mattresses, I'd go to a store and just lay on some. Even if you don't buy one from that store. At least to get a starting idea of your preferences.

The cheaper you go, the faster that mattress is going to wear out. My partner and I got a cheaper memory foam one from Amazon. It is definitely fine but it's showing it's wear after only 2 years. Look for reviews of people who have used the mattress for awhile, not just for a few nights or a week.

I got this frame a couple months ago and I like it. It delivered in less than the estimated shipping time and the quality is good for the price. Easy to put together - just don't force the nuts onto the bolts because the threading is a little soft.

One thing to note - the middle supports are slightly higher than the rest of the frame (less than a 1/2 inch), but I don't notice it.

u/YOUNG-WHITE-PETITE · 2 pointsr/SamPepper

Lol here ill give u a starting point u can find some for like $150-$400 ...they're all the same concept just when u build it don't use the wooden planks or the legs of the base that way the base rests on the floor and the bed sinks into place instead of staying raised DHP Alexander Upholstered Platform Bed Frame, Green Linen, Full https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C2WC2LF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_SMWCCbJMSYYN4

If you can afford it, I'd recommend something like this https://www.amazon.com/DHP-Abode-Full-Size-Ladder-Silver/dp/B004LQ1P9Y/ref=sr_1_17?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1527706190&sr=1-17&keywords=loft+bed Check the review comments - a couple sent in pics of how they set up a bedroom in their studio closet using one of these beds. Put some shelving, a clothes rack, or a dresser on the non-desk side - something inexpensive from Ikea, Walmart, Target, etc. Or get one of the other bunks with no desk and put a chair or small loveseat underneath, plus clothes storage. Get a small LED clip lamp from Ikea to use up top for reading at night. They also make small shelves and pouches meant for people to use when bunking in a dorm or at camp - that could be useful for keeping your phone, books, etc within reach up top. Get a heavy duty power strip with a long cable to run to the nearest available outlet if there is not one in the closet. Get a clamp on fan to keep some air circulating.

THIS IS THE ONLY BED FRAME THAT YOU'LL NEVER NEED!
http://www.amazon.com/Nomad-Solid-Hardwood-Platform-Frame/dp/B000KV4MKS/

It's solid pine and made in USA. I had bought this in a full and gave it away to a friend when I upgraded to a Queen.

The best part about the bed is how it's constructed. Unlike IKEA, it isn't particle board and the hardware does NOT screw into the wood. That's why IKEA stuff falls apart. When you keep re-screwing into the same hole it destroys the integrity. Anyways, the way this bed assembles is that you screw the metal pieces into each other and the wood stays unharmed.

It was super easy to put together and super easy to take apart when gave it away. Because it was solid wood, I didn't really have to be careful or worry that it would break. The bed looks 100% identical to the day I got it. My friend was able to put it together without any instructions because the entire bed is put together using the same hardware (not a million slightly different screws like IKEA).

I would also love to get your opinion on the basically same thing but more 'wall-hugger' https://www.amazon.com/Classic-Brands-Adjustable-Comfort-Wireless/dp/B07QCQH4YH?th=1

and now that I'm looking at it I wonder if it is actually split king and the picture is wrong or what

u/somerandomguy02 · 1 pointr/AskReddit

I have one of these from wfutons. Nomad Platform Bed

It's solid hardwood and my full size frame was only $130. Amazingly sturdy and doesn't move one bit. I Have a bedskirt on it because I store stuff under it but it comes unstained so that you can stain it whatever color you want. Very nice wood.

Tuft and Needle referred me to a company that makes futon frames out of Athens, GA. The frame is called Nomad: Full Size Nomad Platform Bed Frame - Solid Hardwood https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0017RAPTQ/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_BtcQwbN67BW87

It's pressure treated poplar, natural. No headboard or footboard, but you can buy a matching headboard depending on the size of the frame. Rolling drawers are also available for purchase.

I have the king size and love it. The natural wood is wonderful, with some minor discoloration, but that just adds to the character.

Sounds like an easy solution is to go vertical and build a loft. Someone still at university might know someone who can do carpentry on the cheap. That's what I did during dorm life with 2 in 140 sq ft. Need to make use of the empty vertical space if you cannot make it work otherwise. Ends up looking something like this.

I once slept in this as bunkbeds: https://www.amazon.com/Blantex-Non-Adjustable-Military-Bunkable/dp/B004YDFTNC

The frame is VERY solid, but the mattress support is springs that squeak. But I guess you could remove those and put in wood slats.
