They're not wrist mirrors, but have you seen these? (Not tried them myself.)

I have the Sprintech /u/Skripka listed on my road bike, and I have the Blackburn Multi on my touring bike, to swing out to the side so I can see past my panniers.

Both are excellent.

Italian road bike mirror. I have this one. It's not really adjustable once on the bike as it's taped down and the bar tape actually goes over it. This leads to cleaner lines, from side and front you can't really tell it's there at all.

I honestly thought it would have been more useful than it is. I can't see it when in the drops period, great for hoods. The problem is the more I ride the more I tend to stay in the hoods. As a beginner I was mostly hoods so this made sense. I really only use it for taking the lane when I need to but still always give a quick shoulder look as well. I doubt I will buy another one. The helmet mirrors are likely more useful.

My fat-ass gets in the way of those kinds. However this one sticks out enough

If you live in the US of A you generally only need a mirror on the left side. They go into your handlebar ends.

For MTB/Hybrids: http://www.amazon.com/Mirrycle-MTB-Mountain-Bicycle-Mirror/dp/B0009R96YK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332900285&sr=8-1

For drop bars: http://www.amazon.com/Cateye-1900080-BM-300G-Road-Mirror/dp/B000P1Q170/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1332900285&sr=8-12

I have used both on my bikes and can attest that they work great.

I really like this mirror. Been using it the last week or so. The biggest thing with it is the “reach” to get it out beyond the handlebars and your body. As of right now, only have the left side, verdict is still out on adding the right.

I personally swear by helmet-mounted mirrors - I've used these for several years: https://smile.amazon.com/Race-Icon-Bike-Helmet-Mirror/dp/B00SXHQP4C

Would this mount style work for your handlebars? These are cheap and I love them so much I carry extras to give out to others of our tribe who have never used a mirror.

Knowing what is behind me is SOOOOOO worth the one second every 20 seconds to take a quick look.

I know that you've already addressed blind spot mirrors, but have you considered blind spot mirrors for handlebars or helmets?

I believe the diameter of this one is 30mm and there must be a knock off reseller for cheap:

This one is doing it for me - it was hard to figure out how to set it up at first, but once I bent it so it was almost flat to the bar, an inch or so from my knuckles, and also found out that the mirror pivots in it's frame for fine tuning, it's been pretty good on my Radrover. Can't vouch for longevity, though, I've only had it for a month.

I have a bad neck and it is hard for me to look behind. I must have a mirror. Mirricle makes styles of handlebar mirrors. The glass/optical quality is good. I use the mountain bike version with bars more on the flat side. They do make mirrors for drop bars too.

The mount and handlebar style are the challenges. I was trying some butterfly trekking bars and found this Bicyclestore brand with a rubber mount similar to many headlight mounts. Congratulations. Would something like this work for #8? This is what I use on a my carbon road bike at the end of the drop. Usually they come in sets of 2 (left and right). You only need one (depending on which side of the road you are on other vs. UK). I have one mounted only on the left side (US) and it's been very helpful. This particular one can be moved as needed while you ride. It's not as good a a traditional larger round mirror, but it still gets the job done. I only started using this during this current season and love having it now.

A relevant article from Joobst Brandt and Sheldon Brown, giving some pros and cons: http://sheldonbrown.com/brandt/mirrors.html

Also, an option no one has mentioned: a frame mounted mirror. It has uneven reviews (some love it, some hate it) but there it is: http://www.amazon.com/Bike-Eye-Frame-Mount-Mirror-Narrow/dp/B005GEYKDS

I maintain, though, that a lot of people are just being stubborn. I'm certain it increases my awareness of my surroundings, and I'm certain that that's a Good Thing in terms of safety. Many who have tried them seem to have different opinions, though, so who knows?

Years ago road biking I used a little mirror that stuck inside the sunglass lens. It wasn't that high quality, but did work better than I thought it would.

Something like this:
