Surgical critical care fellow here, but residency-trained as Emergency Medicine so had the pick up some of the surgery-specific stuff quickly. Some of the resources I’ve found useful:

Top Knife: a trauma surgery text but very readable for the non-surgeon and helps you to understand the methods behind trauma surgery and damage control resuscitation

I’m a big fan of the Pitt critical care series. A couple titles I’ve found particularly useful for my fellowship:

Hope this helps! I know we do critical care differently in some ways than MICU docs but I like to think we can all learn from each other.

Top Knife is a little above your level but is absolute gold if you will be performing any kind of trauma surgery in the future. The Ventilator Book is appropriate for absolutely anyone who will step foot in an ICU for more than fifteen minutes and will take about that long to read.

I liked the Lawrence Essentials book as a reference text (definitely more in depth than a review or intro book). At my school our residents are encouraged to read Sabiston's over the course of a year or so.

My chief encouraged me to read Cope's Early Diagnosis of the Acute Abdomen, which I enjoy and I think is a great primer on the differential for abdominal pain. Relevant across disciplines.

A good book to start with.
