This is something I read in this book by Tim LaHaye and I don't know how he's viewed on this sub (and from what I gather he seems to attract ire) but his "No Bible, No Breakfast." really helped me out.
Basically, make a sacrifice. LaHaye suggests not having breakfast until you've read your Bible for 15 minutes or 3 chapters, whichever comes first but at least finish 2 I would say. If you don't eat breakfast, make it lunch or dinner. Make it no TV, internet, cigarette, video games, sweets, coffee, etc.
You can read 1 John every day for a week or two to ease in to the habit as it's a short book and takes just a hair longer to go through completely.
You can add a chapter of Psalms on top of 1 John or supplement any book you're reading through with it and you'd go through it 1.5 a year. You can also read through one chapter of Proverbs a day as it has 31 chapters. You can just add in the extra chapters for months with 28 days yourself; I like doing it at the beginning, middle and end of the month. For those with 30 I do it in the middle.
I'd say start with the NT like the others are suggesting and if I could go back and tell myself which Gospel to start with I'd say Mark as it's the shortest Gospel so you'd go through it in a week at 3 chapters a day.

The main thrust is the book of Revelation was written first as it is named, a revelation of Jesus Christ.
