I would (and did) go the opposite route. I got a small hard-shell case (with latches, I haven't had good experiences with zipper durability) for my trumpet with a separate case for flugel (because you're not really going to need it all that often). To handle all of my mutes I just got a music bag (really just a soft briefcase) big enough to hold all of my folders with a pocket on the side to hold my mutes.

If you want a case big enough to hold two horns and a more-than full set of mutes (how often do you really use that bucket mute?) you're looking at a triple trumpet case. Do you really want to lug around a case the size of a large carry-on every time you're going to play?

As far as mutes go, I really love my Denis Wick harmon and cup mutes. Their cup mute is much better the stonelined ones, IMO, but if everyone else in your ensemble is using a stonelined mute it can cause blending issues. Jo Ral makes my favorite straight mute and I still advocate for the simple sink-plunger with the stick taken out for plungers.
