Oh man I keep telling my FH to tell FMIL to stop buying gifts off the registry.

We put everything on our registry, pots, pans, cookie sheets, spatulas, when I got mad at the registry for discontinuing items, I'd throw in a tea towel out of rage. (Resulting in adorable tea towels LOL). We got plates, cups, etc. I even registered for a picnic basket, a ninja cake knife, a coffee maker, silverware, a vacuum, a PS4, a go pro, a vegetable peeler, silpats, shower curtains, suit cases, and towels.

I think most people would want to know what you need/want. I always have hangups of opening gifts in front of people. I don't want to seem greedy opening presents, FH's family is all about opening presents right then and there (they take pictures of you with it, that's kind of weird for me) but it really helps people from asking "what do you neeeeeeeeed yo."

It's actually a gimmicky "lettuce" knife that I found at a grocery store. It's so dull I don't think he could hurt himself if he tried. But it looks big lol so he likes it!

This is just like the on he has:

I'm not sure you actually have a bread knife.

Does it look like something like this?

You shouldn't need to guide it with anything. It's supposed to just cut.

Or use one of these.

if I were you, I would start him off with a plastic vegetable knife to teach him the dos and don'ts of handling a kitchen knife. They're really inexpensive and I've even seen them in some supermarkets. Let him chop the lettuce and onions and peppers and whatnot. I've never met a kid whose eyes didn't light up at the prospect of handling knives.

my best advice for you is to talk about what you know about different ingredients and why they pair well with each other. I've always loved to cook and that's a huge reason why

Why am I imagining one of those crazy plastic knives used to cut celery? I haven't gotten to see the material yet to know what you're really dealing with, to be fair.

Also, I may be giving you more money if you start making fun nerdy things too.. :P
