The Oculus Touch setup is super easy: put both cameras on your desk and you're good to go.

Just to compare, it's going to take you at least 3 weeks to reach the bottom of the lunar cave where the rune sword sleeps on the chaos throne. I know the Vive installation guide claims you don't need to use the rune sword to slay the griffin and acquire the forgotten king's thorned crown from its ichorous stomach, but then you tend to get occlusion around floor level near the lighthouses. In a pinch you could probably also angle them with a thin book or some ball head tripod mounts.

I've had a helmet-mounted GoPro for almost 2 years, and while I've yet to need the footage I consider it a important part of my cycling kit. I use this helmet mount and have never had issues with it. I don't bother uploading or archiving the footage (figuring that no one else is interested in listening to me curse at drivers who irrationally come to a halt in the middle of the block to beckon me into the lane despite having both my feet on the ground and making no moves to enter the lane since I have a stop sign and they do not.....).

I also figure that if I'm going to need footage later, it'll likely be obvious at the time that I should hang onto it.

One of the biggest issues I've had with cameras was with mounting. GoPro system was always a nightmare that is at best really inconvenient. Contour products mounted much better, but it's a crappy camera that rightfully went bankrupt for the third time.

I finally figured out a system that works really well for me. It snaps in and out in a second. Works for the back mounting as well.

Components:

  • Transition Bracket. Surprisingly obscure component. This item comes with both clip parts even though only one is pictured.
  • Seat mount. MAy not work with all seats but works with standard modern ones. Measure distance before buying.
  • Front Mount. Only works where handlebars are screw attached to the fork stem. Older bikes may have that part welded.
  • Also this part. For non GoPro cameras that still have a photography screw attachment. My back camera utilizes this.

Anyways. I am a big proponent of everyone getting a camera. This setup made everything so much easier.

Bonus: If you have multiple bikes, you can switch cameras between them in a second.
u/Kawaicoder · 5 pointsr/motorcycles

It's just the normal GoPro mount that comes in the box, plus one connector from the helmet front mount accessory to make it hinge upwards. I didn't use the full accessory cause that brings it out too far, I like my setup since it's so compact and close to the helmet

My current equipment :

  1. Camera : Canon T3i
  2. Lenses : Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8, Canon 50mm f/1.8, Canon 55-250mm f/4.0-f/5.6
  3. Tripod : Proline Dolica
  4. Software : Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 6

Using these, I manage to get these : Album

I want to further my astrophotography, but realize I would need better equipment to better these.

Which of these would be best bang for my buck for a step forward with astrophotography?

  5. A tracker : Ioptron SkyTracker OR Vixen Polarie
  6. A good solid tripod and ball head
  7. PixInsight software (Is there a cheap or free alternative to a $250 software? I tried DSS, but found it to be inconsistent with results)

I know a good answer to this would be 'everything', but I can't get myself to spend a lot of $$ at this moment. I could spend a few hundred on one of these, and then at a later point re-evaluate.

Thanks for hooking me into this awesome hobby!
u/dhiltonp · 5 pointsr/M43

I would either keep what you have and not buy a lens, or buy the 25mm f/1.7 with the intent of selling at least one of your lenses to offset the cost.

Here are a few things I have and use:

  • short plug - traveling with the long gray cable the charger comes with is a pain. This plug will work in the US, Thailand and China.
  • peak design capture - I wear a backpack when traveling, this makes my camera always accessible.
  • travel tripod - If you want a travel tripod and aren't sure that you'll use it, this is a decent choice. If you get this and the pd capture, you'll also want an arca-swiss compatible clamp.

    Other notes:

You'll get about 3 hours of camera on-time. To get better battery life, turn off your camera when not taking pictures.

To start, try to align 2 things in a picture: the subject of the photo, and having a pleasing/interesting background. A wide aperture can help with that, but isn't required.

Try to get some practice taking pictures before you go, practice really helps.

Starting out, try shooting in RAW+JPEG.

Beyond that, have fun and take lots of pictures!

Yes. You just need a mount adapter. I got one and it works like a charm. Just screw this on the pedco and you’re good to go!

Neewer Aluminum Screw Knob Clamp... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KNPITI2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

u/DineAndDance · 5 pointsr/vive_vr

Here’s links for uk amazon, will give you an idea of what to search if you’re based elsewhere.

Link for the telescopic poles: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000LFVE68?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Link for the clamp mount: CamKix Clamp Mount compatible... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00NIBQXGS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

The clamp mounts aren’t the best tbh, but they work. They were only £10 so may be worth spending a bit more for some better ones.

u/safe_for_work_stuff · 5 pointsr/virtualreality

I've got my lighthouses on these clamps and a small-form-factor pc case only slightly larger than an xbox360. It takes me about 20 minutes to plug in the pc, power it on, and setup a new space.

u/stelewi · 4 pointsr/Vive

I wouldn't recommend it. Like someone else said, they vibrate a little due to the motor inside.

could you use camera clamps or clips instead of balancing them?

something like this; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Neewer-Multi-Function-Spring-Holder-Camera-x/dp/B00AMXMV3O/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1484480134&sr=8-12&keywords=slr+camera+clamp

u/Arbiter329 · 4 pointsr/Vive

Just a heads up, the Amazon link you posted doesn't ship to the US.

Here are a few options for US folk (I haven't tried either of these, just FYI so can't speak for quality)

NEEWER® Multi-function Spring Clamp Clip Holder Mount with Ball Head w/ standard 1/4" Screw for SLR, Digital SLR, Video cameras

SUPON Multi-function Tripod Camera Clip Clamp Flash Holder Mount with 360 Swivel Photography Ball-Head 1/4" Threaded Screw for Camera Tripod, SLR, DSLR, Video Cameras,Studio Backdrop Camera

Personally I recommend some lightstands and ballheads, if you have the space they are great and very portable.

u/davidrools · 4 pointsr/canon

My take on tripods: I generally don't take them hiking. Light ones are too flimsy and sturdy ones are too heavy. I will, though, bring a small tabletop tripod that I've used to great effect to setup on rocks or the ground for moving water shots, stars, sunsets, or other long exposure situations where you have some flexibility. I use this little 3pod that was on sale for $20 or so. Or spend more for the Manfrotto name.

I do a lot of hiking with my camera, too. An experience many of us have is that if your camera isn't in your hands or very close, you're unlikely to pull it out. I like to hike with my SL1 and the EF-S 24mm pancake. It's a fantastic combo. I keep it on my hip or chest with a Peak Designs CapturePro. (Or consider getting the completely patent-infringing chinese ripoff and then buy a real Peak Designs after you decide how much you like it that it's worth supporting the real innovators.

Another great tool for landscapes and outdoor photography is a graduated ND filter like this 52mm Tiffen HT, or themore affordable one with less fancy coatings. It helps balance exposure when you have part of your image very bright (like a sky) and the other half fairly dark (like your foreground). I rarely shoot a landscape without one.

You could get the tabletop tripod, 24mm pancake, ND grad, and clip holster for under your budget. It'll up your image quality and have you with a very nice trail ready setup.

I can't think of another lens to recommend in your budget that would improve your image quality, be convenient enough to take everywhere, and allow you to work on the fundamentals of photography as much as the 24mm. Maybe it's just the lens I've come to really, really like and consider it an essential piece in my kit that gets used a more than some much pricier lenses.

I understand that you'll probably opt for something with a big zoom range, just like I did long ago. And I know many others who do as well. And maybe that's a necessary step before coming around to appreciate primes. Maybe it's part of discovering who you are as a photographer. The only wrong choice would be to think your gear was handicapping you and then not go out and shoot.

u/MoogleMan3 · 4 pointsr/gopro

Hero 7 black is the way to go. The hypersmooth stabilization makes it worth it.

Accessories to get:

First of all, get a gopro plus trial. It gives you 50% off of batteries and other accessories, but not chargers or microsd cards.

Grab a few extra batteries. With the trial, they're $10 each.

The dual bay charger is well worth the price.

These are the microsd cards I use in my H7B. They're fast, reliable and cheap. Also on gopro's recommended list of cards to use.

I use tempered glass protectors for the lens and rear screen and they don't affect video quality at all. They went on very easily and the lens cap is a nice bonus.

For a case, I currently use this one, but the official case looks good too.

I use this frame mount and love it. The front round piece can be removed if desired; I took it off as I don't need it for what I use my gopro for. It includes mounting options for both standard threaded mounts and gopro mounts. And the back slides on and off.

If you need a head mount, the amazonbasics one is identical to the official gopro branded mount aside from the logo (I have both).

Completely optional, but I really like these aluminum knobs over the standard plastic ones.

That about covers everything I use. Hope this helps some!

u/dairypope · 3 pointsr/bikecommuting

The Vented Helmet Strap. Holds pretty steady, it's got pretty traction-y rubber on the bottom of it so it doesn't slide around on the top of the helmet once you've got it cinched down.

u/mayowarlord · 3 pointsr/BikeCammers

I am seconding what u/scrubadub said about using a helmet mount.

For a non-BERN style helmet i.e. one with lots of holes, you will need one that has straps to go through the holes on your helmet.

Keep in mind that you can get a whole box of knock off accessories for 15$ Also keep in mind that they might be cheap and shitty. My mount is a knock off and it works, but I have a piece of paper jammed in the fitting so it doesn't rattle.

u/poirotoro · 3 pointsr/M43

I don't think there are any universal adapters. They make specific adapters for different brands, including Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, Olympus OM, and probably others.

From what I can tell, the difference in cost is usually about 2 things:

1.) If the adapter has electrical contacts. If you are using a purely manual vintage lens, the adapter doesn't need these and will be pretty cheap. However, if you are trying to use a modern Nikon or Canon lens on a m43 camera, an adapter with contacts will let the camera and lens talk to each other so you can use auto-focus and on-camera aperture control.

2.) If the adapter has glass in it to work as a focal reducer. As far as I know, the same "multiply by 2" rules normally apply to adapted lenses. A 50mm lens from another manufacturer will act like a 100mm lens on an m43 camera, unless you use a focal reducer, which reduces the focal length and aperture by a certain magnification level.

Also as others have mentioned, while 50mm lenses are cheap and plentiful, wider angle lenses are less common and you may not save any money trying to find a vintage 18mm. So, for example, I bought this simple adapter that lets me fit Olympus OM mount lenses from the days of film on to my E-M10, and I got 24mm 2.8 and 50mm 1.4 lenses to use with it. I don't think I saved all that much money with my purchase--maybe a couple of hundred. But they're fun to shoot with. :)

u/xyphur · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

Sure thing, I'll even post a screencap from a video of me riding on my favorite local scenic/twisty road:

1 2 3 4 BONUS

I would also suggest getting the GoPro 'Helmet Front Mount' kit which includes two short straight arms to allow for more upward tilt / range of adjustment, as you may run into the same issue I did in that the camera doesn't point up enough. It totally depends on the helmet and the shape and angle of the chinbar... I solved it by drilling out my GoPro case's mounting bolt hole so that the whole thing would tilt a little more in the J-mount I had. Either works, but the kit linked above opens up more mounting options as well.

u/bmengineer · 3 pointsr/flashlight

What light do you have? Lots of them have tripod threads, and mounts for those are pretty common - here's one example on Amazon.

If your light doesn't have the standard 1/4" thread, you'll probably have to 3d-print or otherwise DIY some sort of solution.

Both mounts work great, solid. First one needed some glue to lock up an unnecessary spring-tensioned adjustment mechanism, fine after that

u/Andythefan · 3 pointsr/Vive

You're probably looking for something like this.

Also worth noting is how this the shelves are that you are attaching, since these clamps have a maximum thickness they can clamp onto without being unstable.

Peak Designs Capture Clip Pro is my method of choice. The camera attaches directly to your backpacking strap via the tri-pod mount on the bottom so it isn't swinging around or anything and the weight is transferred to the pack instead of around your neck. It has a quick release button so you can have your camera up and ready in seconds.

Amazon link

I was worried about dropping it at first so I started to loop the camera strap in the chest strap on my pack so if I were to ever drop the camera it would catch.

u/IfOneThenHappy · 3 pointsr/Ultralight

Have you considered the clip versus a strap? https://www.amazon.com/Peak-Design-CapturePRO-Camera-Clip/dp/B00OY5UMD2

Would you continue to bring the BRS 3000T? Just bring a good windscreen?

u/sirsnafu · 3 pointsr/Vive

I initially thought of going with that option, however once I considered moving my setup out to the living room, which has vaulted ceilings, I opted to try these photography tripods instead.

Now I do not have to worry about slamming into my ceiling, and if I want to, I can set up in an area that does not have lower ceilings like a convention center or meeting room.

I also got a pair of swivel camera mounts like so which allows me full mobility.

Is the top of that fixture flat and smooth? If so, and assuming that the fixture is rigid, you can use a suction cup camera mount like this: https://www.amazon.com/Panavise-809-Camera-Window-Suction-Cup/dp/B000246ST6

Or if you prefer smaller: https://www.amazon.com/Camera-Suction-Tripod-Holder-Screen/dp/B007E4PUT6

I use suction cup camera mounts for mine. You can find these in all shapes, sizes, budgets.

Good luck!

u/DesignNomad · 2 pointsr/gopro

New GoPros come with sticky/adhesive mounts in the box, so you might have the truck covered with those. For the bike, the Chesty mount or vented helmet strap would be good picks, though there are some great bike mounts too (just aren't as versatile).

u/EdwadThatone · 2 pointsr/cycling

If you can go ~$150 then I’d definitely recommend the GoPro Session. It’s simple to use, just push a button and it turns on and starts recording. Push it again and it stops recording and turns off. It’s compact, and won’t stick our like a sore thumb when on your head. It’s completely water proof without a housing. (Well, not water proof, but water resistant, but you can take it to the beach and it’ll be fine) You can get a new one on Amazon for $150 or if you shop around on eBay you can a used one for cheaper. Example. Once you buy that you’ll need an SD card, and a mount. Now, if you have a vented helmet and don’t mind some more added bulk, you could use this mount. It’s from GoPro, so it’ll be a bit more compared to off brand options but it will most likely last longer too. Or you could get the adhesive route and get something like this. Personally, I’d recommend the adhesive, but it’s really up to you. If you have any questions just ask. Good luck and be safe!

u/JumboChimp · 2 pointsr/Cameras

You can easily and inexpensively adapt lenses with manual focus, aperture, and zoom controls to a mirrorless body with a dumb adapter like this. There is a crop factor of about 2 between 35mm and m43 with this type of adapter. For somewhat more money, you can get a speedbooster that has optics to reduce the crop factor and increase the aperture. Somewhere in between are adapters with no optics that let the camera control some aspects of AE/AF lenses.

Oh, and stop by /r/m43 for m43 focused discussion.

u/bigbengb · 2 pointsr/photography

Yup. Often with great results (but remember that field of view is subject to the 2x crop, e.g., a 50mm lens will have the equivalent field of view to a 100mm lens)

u/MaiPhet · 2 pointsr/M43

First-time camera owner here. I've been reading and teaching myself what I can, but I am looking for a recommendation.

Last year I decided to buy a real camera and take a step up from iphone snapshots. After a lot of research, and the recommendation of a friend, I picked up the Olympus OM-D EM10-II. I like it a lot, and one of my favorite times to shoot are on cloudy, overcast days in the city or even at night when things are illuminated by streetlights. I've been wondering if maybe a prime lens would be an improvement over the 14-42 kit lens for that purpose. A wider aperture would allow faster shutter speeds.

I'm looking for a half-decent prime lens for street photography, ideally under $200. I did order this adapter, and if there are any recommendations, that would be awesome.

u/Rogue3StandingBy · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

These are the most popular type of mounts:

Side helmet mount

Front helmet mount (if you have space on your chinbar)

And my personal favorite, the chest mount. This is because you won't make your viewers sick when you're moving your head around, and its nice to be able to see the front of the bike and your gauges in the frame (depending on the type of bike you have).

u/GhostsInside · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

Just sell the adhesive slide clip mounts. I think theyre 10 bucks for 5 of them. So sell them for 3 bucks, then have the gopro case attached to one of these

u/kdingo · 2 pointsr/motorcycles

My experience with handlebar mounts is to try to keep the device too far from the handlebars. Depending on the weight of the device, the vibration of the handlebars and wind increases dramatically if it's too high from the handlebars. I personally don't think damping solutions like sponges would really help stability. I use this cheap camera mount for my onboard video. When I had my heavy digital camera on it, video kind of sucked, but when I bought my Contour and put it on the same mount, it turned out a lot better. And yes I know it doesn't help that I ride a thumper =p

I like helmet mounts more because of the flexibility, but if you don't have a separate mic or something to cut the wind noise, those videos won't have your nice engine sound except at stops.

u/Tural- · 2 pointsr/Vive

There are floor-to-ceiling poles that extend and stay in place with a very small footprint, but I think they're generally more expensive. You'd need to get a tripod pole mount to stick onto them, as well. I haven't researched them, but you would want something like these poles and these mounts.

I personally am opting for the light stands that /u/libertytoast posted, they seem to be the best bang for your buck, and then you just need a ball-joint attachment for tilting the sensors. I got a more heavy duty one, here.

u/teddgram · 2 pointsr/bikepacking

You could get a cheap camera and a mount that has the 1/4"-20 thread on it. That would keep it handy.

I've used RAM mounts on different bikes/cars over the years and they are pretty nice.

https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-231ZU

https://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-201U

https://www.rammount.com/part/RAP-B-379U-252025

These mounts can be pretty pricey, but they are solid. My friend puts them on his ATVs to hold his GPS and has never lost a GPS yet. I use a similar setup for my action camera mount and have programmed the action camera to take a quick picture whenever I press a certain button. I've caught shots of deer crossing the trail with relative ease many times, and find myself using it to take shots of interesting things since like you I find it cumbersome to pull out the phone to take a picture.

I'm sure if you shop around you can either find these components cheaper, or another manufacturer that would be cheaper but still provide the same thing.

Edit: just some quick googling....

I really like the idea of hiding the Lighthouse power inside the pole.

Were you already aware of "contractor poles" / "quick support rods"?
https://www.amazon.com/Task-Tools-T74500-81-Inch-108-Inch/dp/B000CRDD6Y/

Another option besides light stands or wall mount is a heavy clamp with ball joint (if you have a horizontal or vertical shelf-like surface in the right spot:)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AMXMV3O/

u/photographic_mammory · 2 pointsr/Vive

You have some options.

If you're ok with drilling some holes in the wall, it should have some mounting brackets for the lighthouses in the box.

A good howto with youtube video here:
https://www.vive.com/us/support/howto/720442.html

You can use cargo poles, or contractor poles for a more permanent installation, if you don't want to put holes in walls but don't want to take them up or down.

https://www.amazon.com/FastCap-Support-System-144-Inches-3HAND5/dp/B000067S12/

Then just find the right photography mounts to clamp to them. The lighthouses have regular 1/4" threading, so you can use basically any standard camera mount.

https://www.amazon.com/NEEWER%C2%AE-Multi-function-standard-Digital-cameras/dp/B00AMXMV3O/

I use these clamps - they rock and they're $10 each, so $20 total.

If you don't mind doing the room setup every time you move them, you could put them on flash stands if you weighted the base down properly and your floor doesn't move too much.

I flip my bed up (no headboard). Went from worrying about 2m x 1m to eventually 2.4x2.4 ish moving stuff around. Easy to do in 2 mins once you figure out the routine. Even though I have the space, I ended up getting a steering wheel+pedals for racing games. Bought a HOTAS too but haven't used it yet. Games like DiRT Rally and iRacing are really fun. I wasn't even into simracing until VR came around. Lighthouses are needed for tracking, all the time, yes. The recommended roomscale size is assuming you have nothing in the way from floor to ceiling. The lighthouses will work in small spaces for sure.

I use these in my room, and whenever I bring my rig over to people's houses. Easy to just extend them from floor to ceiling. https://www.harborfreight.com/2-in-1-support-cargo-bar-66172.html.

Then I use these and just clip onto the bar https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AMXMV3O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/NWinston · 2 pointsr/photography

For wide angle stuff, there are some pretty affordable solutions.

A small tracker like this: http://www.amazon.com/iOptron-3302B-SkyTracker-Camera-Mount/dp/B00EFRN1GE would allow exposures of a couple minutes with a wide angle lens and just replaces a tripod head.

u/Idontlikecock · 2 pointsr/astrophotography

Does she own a nice tripod already? If so, the iOptron Skytracker is the perfect gift for the entry level astrophotography, even a lot of people who own tons of nice equipment would love one of these. You get great tracking for widefield skyscape shots, but it is in a super compact little tracker instead of lugging out one of our huge EQ mounts. Not only that though, it is even easier to use and much less daunting than jumping straight into something like an EQ mount.

I know it is at the upper range for your budget at $300, but you can snag it used for $250 here if it hasn't sold yet. Or $260 from Amazon. I checked Astromart for you since you don't have to make an account, and the only one for sale over there is the same guy on CN.

If this is too far out your budget, I am not sure what would be the most cost effective per benefits thing to get around that price range. Like there are tons of objects, just they wouldn't be super useful as a beginner. Like a clip in LPS/CLS/UHC filter, a guide camera or guide scope, PixInsight, etc.

If all else fails you can get this beautiful Orion nebula bracelet from astrophotographer Terry Hancock or some other space themed jewelry (like maybe a ring made from a meteor or something).

But really, I have no idea. Shopping for girls is hard.

u/equinelife · 2 pointsr/Horses

I've seen a bunch on Amazon, I was looking at this one as I'm leaning towards the Hero series now. It does say recommended for non-impact activities but from what I've seen the warranty is pretty good on the GoPros.

u/AEROSTREAMPRECISION · 2 pointsr/metalworking

clip-on mount, good for backpacks, music stands, belts, anything similar. It does a pretty good job.

Spring clamp. Stick a curved adhesive mount on it and you've got yourself a great clamp mount. A hell of a lot cheaper than the GoPro branded version.

A GoPole or similar. I've got an extending version that I snagged from Best Buy. It does a nice job and is probably the most useful accessory I've got.

Vertical orientation for tripod:

I'm trying to put together a budget astrophotography kit. So far I have:

  • A6000
  • Rokinon 12mm F2
  • Mowhawk MTR-4500 : A mediocre tripod I got for free

The tripod has a panhead and a proprietary quick release plate.

I'm trying to find a way to mount my camera vertically on my tripod. People recommend using an L-bracket, but those seem to be only for arca-swiss quick release systems.

    I see three options:

  1. Get an arca-swiss clamp and attach it to the existing quick release plate. Use with a standard L-bracket.
  2. Get an arca-swiss head OR a ball head for the tripod. I'm not well-versed with tripod gear; I don't know if this tripod can swap heads.
  3. Get an L-bracket that has a 1/4" socket on the side. Does this exist? I couldn't find one for my camera.

Which would you recommend? Thanks for the help.

IMO the best tool is a clamp with a flexible arm.

It works best because it grips tightly to any solid pole, such as a back fence post. Also assuming the post is straight, you can set up the camera angle low down, then just move the clamp up as high as you can reach for the best angle.

Most of them are made for gopros but they’ll take a mobile mount as well.

I use like a headmount: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R4YCKIK

The little mount thing yeah at first its mostly difficult to adjust to get right angle, so you have right amount of sky vs ground. But for most part you adjust once and then it stays at that angle. I use a Yi4k+ and you can also check frame connecting to wifi with phone.

But then yeah you do need to change your behavior just slightly.. trying to look with your head a tiny bit more.. instead of like 70% eyes 30% head try to do like 50% eyes 50% head and you stay in frame. You actually still want to use your eyes because then you get heli moving from one edge of frame to the other and not keep it dead center. Only other unnatural thing is looking down.. you tend to look up with your head but if you come in real close its more natural to look down with just eyes and you need to remind yourself to tilt your head down.

I mean I guess it sounds complicated, and its not totally fullproof.. but IMO its easy. Usually I just record like 5-6 packs and one of them is decent enough. You can also adjust FOV on camera... use a wider angle at first and then try more narrow FOV when you get used to it... I don't know with helis though they're so big, with quadcopters generally wide angle quad is way too small.

And if anything I think its even more important for 3D fllying.. you can change directions so easily the camera man always ends up delayed. Your current video I admit look good for most part, although camera movement is still delayed.. its not like some videos that are garbage when camera guy is just too slow to keep up.

Quadmovr uses a gopro headstrap.. I just think this video looks so much cleaner than 99% of helicopter videos.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIKJfpy_s_k

The camera movement just is aligned so well.. and you can see he's moving around in frame, he's looking with his eyes, but just a little extra head movement keeps quad in frame.

Eg another video, I dunno I just love this sorta look..

I'm just always advocating for headmount setups, lol. ;)

This is the Star Adventurer. An Alt/Az tracks the object using altitude (up and down) and Azimuth (left and right). An Alt/Az mount will produce field rotation. An equatorial mount tracks using the rotation of the earth allowing for MUCH longer exposures. A prime lens is a lens that has one focal length. Many lenses will allow you to go from 18mm to 55mm or from 75mm to 300mm. When manufacturing non-prime lenses, some quality is sacrificed due to having to make the lens capable of multiple focal lengths. More quality and precision go into a prime lens. Prime lenses also tend to have larger apertures (letting in more light/low focal ratio). Prime lenses also tend to be a little more expensive, but you can get a Canon nifty-fifty (50mm) for wide field astrophotography and every-day photography for under $150. Here is a Canon 200mm prime for $750. Here is a picture from Astrobin taken with the Star Adventurer, a Sony A7, and a Samyang 135mm prime lens.

Skywatcher Star Adventurer plus the Wedge and the counterweight kit. Should come to under $800 CAD, and give you tracking out to 1-2 min at under 200mm focal length.

u/user10110010 · 2 pointsr/telescopes

There are some ~ $500 options that might be good for a photographer that already has a camera.

You can do /r/landscapeastro with a basic tripod and a wide angle lens. The Rokinon 14mm and the Rokinon 24mm are great lenses for Milky Way (widefield) astrophotography. With the camera locked down on a tripod you can do long exposures up to 30 seconds or so. You can shoot multiple exposures and stack them to reduce noise and bring out details. The lenses I linked to are fast and wide and have aspherical elements that makes them good for astrophotography.

The trick with shooting individual objects with a telephoto lens is that as the stars "move" across the sky during the night that motion is magnified in the viewfinder, so you have to shoot 1 or 2 second exposures so that the motion doesn't cause the stars to trail.

If you want to shoot with a telephoto lens you need a tracking mount. The motorized mount slowly moves the camera at the same rate as the sky, keeping the subject still in the viewfinder. This allows for longer exposures and better results.

There are some interesting low cost tracking mounts for cameras with lenses up to 300mm. I haven't used these (ended up getting a bigger mount) but I've seen some good results posted on the forums.

I was looking at this type of light duty tracking mount and what I didn't like is that you can't go "up" size-wise from there.

The next step up is a medium duty tracking mount like the

Celestron Advanced VX Mount

What I like about getting into a mount like this is that it can handle a decent size (and quality) telescope if you want to add that later. It uses the German Equatorial Mount (GEM) design that all top-of-the-line mounts use. So you're getting into a better class of mount that has tighter mechanical tolerances. You can use it with wide or telephoto lenses on your camera for now, and with a nice telescope later.

I recently bought a big ol' Atlas EQ-G tracking mount. It's $1500 new but I found a used one for $700. It didn't come with a tripod so I got a used Meade Field Tripod ($150) and an adapter plate ($120) so it was about $1,000 for that particular mount setup. I plan to use that with my Canon 400mm telephoto lens and expect to get decent pictures of Andromeda galaxy, Orion nebula and other deep sky objects (DSO). I need to tap some threads in the tripod and DIY a spreader and I'll be good to go. I guess my point is I got a heavy duty mount that will work with my existing gear and with a good sized telescope in the future. Worked for me, ymmv.

u/inkista · 1 pointr/AskPhotography

>... what camera do you recommend, as a lightweight mirrorless to use with vintage glass?

I can't. If you want lightweight, you have to get a smaller camera with an APS-C or 4/3 sensor, and if you want to play with vintage glass, full frame is best, which puts you back into the dSLR-carry bulk stakes. Because you're carrying both the lens and the camera body.

Mirrorless only makes the body smaller. And you're complaining about the bulk of an f/2.8 zoom. Have you tried putting the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM pancake or 50mm f/1.8 STM on your SL1? Also note how the Metabones adapter is about 1/2 the length of the 50/1.8 on the A7.

Most vintage lenses you're going to find were designed for 135 format (35mm film/full frame) SLRs. Unless you're deliberately pursuing half-format lenses or old 35mm motion film lenses or rangefinder lenses (all of which are harder and more expensive to find than, say, Minolta MC/MD or Canon FD/FL), you're liable to end up with an even bigger combo than your SL1 + a prime, particularly if you need something longer/wider than a 50mm lens.

And using lenses designed for 35mm on 4/3 or APS-C is a PITA when it comes to wide angle, because even a 24mm was an expensive exotic wide angle back in the day, and an 18mm will require a ton of time to find and probably cost more than a digital-era lens would. Do the crop math.

You're mostly going to have to give up one (weight/size) or the other (vintage glass adapting). Just saying, be sure you're going into the vintage glass because you really are willing to give up autofocus, aperture control from the body, lens EXIF, wide-open metering, etc. etc., for the vintage feelz, and not just to save a few bucks. And also realize you're kinda looking for a unicorn if you expect to put 135 format lenses onto micro four-thirds and be happy.

I have routinely used both a Summicron-R 90mm and a C/Y Planar T* 100/2 on my 5D MkII where they are big and heavy and balance nicely with the big heavy body and work well with the full-frame sensor. And I only ever once tried to put them on my GX7, because 200mm and 180mm equivalents aren't that great for zoo/wildlife use when they don't autofocus, and they're not wide enough for general walkaround use. Also, nose-heavy. I do use my OM 50mm f/1.2 on the GX7, but it's still nose-heavy, given how thick the adapter ring is, and still a 100mm-equivalent lens.

But the alternative is to replace the tape/mount every time. Crap on that.

Can you not use rubber spacers or some rubbery tape to fill the gap to keep it in place?

I'm totally blanking on the terminology, but my bell clip has this rubberised material inside the ring to kind of fill the space/keep it in place. You can see it inside the ring on this random mount.

u/TehRawk · 1 pointr/Vive

I'm not sure how well that config file thing would work. If the lighthouses move at all, you will get some messed up things happening. Like floating or being under the floor. It would be impossible to mount the lighthouses exactly after moving them. I am sure this is a good solution for those who dont move their lighthouses, but have to move furniture to switch between roomscale and seated. Doing the roomscale/seated setup doesn't take very long.

I have the permanent mounts in my bedroom. I use camera stands for mounting in the sitting room. There are a few options for this, as the holes for mounting, are the same size as standard camera mounts. If you have somewhere to attach them, these clamps work quite well. Or these gorillapods are handy too. You can leave the piece that clicks into place, attached to the lighthouses. So they literally take 1 second to remove.

I leave the wall mounting bracket, that come with the Vive, attached to the back of the lighthouses when I move them. So I just unscrew them from the wall. This seems safer to me, than rotating the entire lighthouse to remove it from the bracket. Less chance of dropping them. There is also a screw hole in the bottom of the lighthouse, where another mounting solution can be attached. This is where I attach the camera stands.

The lighthouses can be mounted upside down, and function perfectly.

You can do this with any camera capable of recording a time lapse, mounted to something that tracks stars. This is one example. It is basically an electric motor driving a mounting plate. The motor is geared so it completes 1 rotation in 24 hours. The rotation axis of the mount is aligned exactly with the North Celestial Pole (very close to the Pole Star) or the South Celestial Pole, if you are in the Southern Hemisphere. It rotates so as to exactly cancel the apparent rotation of the sky caused by the Earth's rotation.

This is also one way in which astronomical telescopes are mounted, and it is what allows them to keep them centred on the same star/galaxy/whatever for the hours it can take to make a long exposure image. It is known as an Equatorial Mount.

It's pretty cool, but I wouldn't say it's the best for ultimate. I highly doubt there is any way to get high quality first-person video anytime soon.

A [headstrap mount with QuickClip] (http://amzn.com/B00F19PYR4)?

u/TacticalAcquisition · 1 pointr/gopro

More like this. You want to screw the adapter to the tripod, and attach the frame to the adapter.

I use a couple angles: One on my jury strut and one on the tail handle, held on by these guys:

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJ5XH4O/ and

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GWBXL16/

Here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrlJyDAtnzA

You don't have jury struts in the 185, but I do know that someone makes a strut camera mount thingy. My system may work on your stringer, it's a cool view, but not super useful for most of the takeoff or landing run as it just gets pummeled by water.

I shot terabytes worth of video with my backpack strap mounted gopro. I used this mount and I can't recommend it enough. It's great because it swivels so you can get a level shot no matter what angle it's at.

It wasn't really centered on my chest like you may be thinking. I was wearing a camelback, and didn't have the Chesty for it, so I had to improvise with a clip-on thing from Amazon attached to a strap on the camelback. The result was it being offset to one side of my chest. Worked alright enough. I would definitely want the chesty or something more secure next time, because sufficiently violent shaking causes the clip-on to gradually work loose. In fact the whole thing grip fell off once X) I shrieked like a little bitch.

Here's the clip I used...

I am a first-time owner (just got the GoPro HERO4 Session) and will be using my GoPro during an upcoming trip to Iceland. I have been experimenting using it in different lighting and such, but I feel like there is still much to learn. What are some pitfalls that I should avoid, and is there any advice anyone can offer an inexperienced GoPro user? I will be using it during a variety of activities like dogsledding, snorkeling, and overall vacation debauchery.

edit: As of right now, the accessories I own are the Fast Clamp and the Floating Hand Grip

I live in Europe and I bought them while in Italy.
But I believe these brands all over amazon worldwide.

  1. This is the one for battery: https://www.amazon.it/gp/aw/d/B07CYR8X43?
came with lid + lens and screen protectors. as bonus

  2. This is the one for the spingen protectors - from my experience, so far, not scratch resistant (even by sitting alone in my bag, scratched without a logical explanation).
    https://www.amazon.it/gp/aw/d/B07PFB3TQL?

  3. Tripod head (use it for my portable Manfrotto Pixi) :
    https://www.amazon.it/gp/aw/d/B071XVZKP1?

  4. I am thinking of purchasing, in the future a smaller tripod for versatility in height also (https://www.amazon.it/GoPro-AFAEM-001-Action-camera-tripod/dp/B00KCX8H6E/) or a gorillapod ( but as I heard they are not time resistant).

  5. If you plan seaside trips - floating stick could be an option. In Europe if you go to certain immigrant owned electronic shops you can get pretty decent prices for many accessories in 1 little bag.

I didn't use my 3M sticky gopro mount so far anywhere because, as I watched online is pretty hard to take it off.

    p. s. I know I gave you more than a link, but I hope it might be useful to someone someday. cheers

I always bring my Gopro 3way mount. It fits nicely in my camera pack. As long as you aren't bringing in something really long, they won't care.

u/SleepySnowLeopard · 1 pointr/Nikon

I have 2 black rapids straps. Both a single and a double setup. I love them and can't imagine going back to a neck strap. It does fine with an L-bracket either with the screw in thats there on the L-bracket or with the attachment that i personally prefer to use: https://www.amazon.com/Neewer-Aluminum-Screw-Compatible-Release/dp/B00KNPITI2/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?keywords=Neewer+Aluminum+Screw+Knob+Clamp+Arca+Swiss+Compatible+Mini+Quick+Release+Clamp+for+QR+Plate+%2838mm%29&qid=1556923422&s=electronics&sr=1-1-fkmrnull

Here is the one I have, like 50 bucks.

Canon to sony e-mount
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D9BKLX8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

l bracket I am using 15 bucks:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07W3RRDJD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use these to adapt my tripods and I have one with a nylon webbing for rock climbing as a sling over the shoulder strap. again 15 bucks

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KNPITI2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/TheRanger12 · 1 pointr/gopro

I found this clamp quite useful on my holiday to Bali:
https://www.amazon.com/Clamp-Session-Silver-Compact-Cameras/dp/B00NIBQXGS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1483327162&sr=8-5&keywords=gopro+clamp

For a 5 day trip 32gb might be enough, but if you are filming 2.7k or 4k protune (which you should), then 64gb would be safer.
As for a spare battery, I guess it depends on how long you will be filming for at a time. I was fine with just the one battery and a battery pack (which I didn't use much) on my trip.

u/Archimedes_SC · 1 pointr/oculus

Sorry about the bad background. Mount purchased here.

u/Gahaha · 1 pointr/Vive

There are cheap pairs you can find on amazon for about $35-40. I ordered a pair but was unhappy with the amount of wobble when extended at max height. Now returning those, I ended up spending a bit more for quality, these are the best I found. IMO, it's worth investing a bit more for something sturdy and quality built.

I have a shelf as well which this clamp will work nicely.

u/l0nest4r · 1 pointr/oculus

This could work, assuming the clip opens wide enough to clip onto the monitor arms. Maybe you could clip it on to VESA plate?

u/kl4me · 1 pointr/Vive

I use something like this. It has the advantage to be extremely small and lightweight. It has the drawbacks of requiring an elevated point to mount both of them where you will play, and that those mounting points must be adapted so that the pliers will get a good grip on them. I bought mine from Amazon.

u/csmoore · 1 pointr/motorcycles

Haphazardly, haha. I kind of just dump my camera and extra batteries in my backpack and attach my tripod securely with the straps.

If I was doing longer trips I'd probably figure out a better solution, but for now I've just been riding around relatively close to where I live.

I also have this as an option, which lets you attach your camera to a backpack strap or something like it.

Thanks! The head mount is the AmazonBasics one. It's $7.50 but it's an add-on item so it'll only ship with an order over $25.

u/priority_one · 1 pointr/spinalcordinjuries

Quad here as well. In your next video, if it's a solid hobby search for a used GoPro camera. You can use a headband camera mount, which made me feel weird, but got the job done (see below) Or a bicycle/handlebar mount that can hook to your footrest or frame of the chair. Thanks for the ride.

I went with this pairing. I have wood floors and the lighthouses sway SLIGHTLY when I walk within a couple feet of them, however, I don't notice any tracking issues.

Really convenient for travel demoing and quick cleanup at home.

u/wildonrio · 1 pointr/Vive

The Vive was the least protected in the box they shipped it in too if you recall. It was just in a plastic bag.

These are things I bought that work great.
First, the stands;

Then the adaptor;

And finally the finishing touch for the headpiece;
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F8V66O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That's everything you need. But yeah, get them high up, pointing down a bit, and make sure on sturdy flooring so as you're jumping around they don't carry the vibration over and judder.

u/stealur · 1 pointr/Vive

Oh, and I got these to allow to position the lighthouses better:

it's the one /u/t-ara-fan linked, but It doesn't come with a tripod. you'll need to find a reasonably solid tripod. I leave my tripod on the shortest it will go when i take images since that makes it more stable. I think i paid less for mine than the one linked, cant recall though

A heavy bookshelf is actually a decent non-drilling mounting solution. Buy some shelf clips similar to these.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY5R9ES

u/aes_gcm · 1 pointr/Vive

Have you looked at using clamps that attach to the shelf? Something like this will help.

u/sacrilegious · 1 pointr/Vive

That's a decent midrange system. I would immediately replace the hard drive with a SSD however. Only use for a hard drive in 2017 is mass storage; your heavy duty games should be on the SSD.

I can't say exactly how that CPU will perform but I suspect it should be sufficient for the vast majority of VR games. The RX 570 should be fine as well, just don't expect to be able to supersample much.

Do you have a Microcenter near you? If so, this system is the same price and pretty much better in every way: http://www.microcenter.com/product/475437/G314_Desktop_Computer

I'm not sure if they will ship that or not

I use these as well. One clipped to the top of a door, and the other underneath a curtain rail. I was really happy I found these because my apartment doesnt have the space for a tripod, and I wasn't looking forward to setting up those stripper poles that others have mentioned. Most dash cams have the same tripod mount larger cameras do, so you can buy something like this to hook into the GoPro mount and then screw the dash cam into. This is the one I bought when I got my 2016 and it's out of stock, but look for something similar.

Edit: this and this look like they would work.

I use it alternating between handheld, standing on a flat surface and mounted to a gopro clip on my backpack's shoulder strap. My camera stays in the Polarpro cage with an adapter and Gopro ball joint. I chose this cage over the Polarpro cage with Gopro mounts or the one I linked above because it's the only one that accommodates the wheel controller.
