Firstly: Is your cat neutered?

You can always try being more affectionate with kitty. Is kitty a lap kitty? hold kitty in your lap, maybe brush her if she enjoys that, anything that is soothing and enjoyable. Try wrapping kitty in soft blanket, for most cats, this provides a feeling of safety (warning: not all cats respond well to this). Does kitty have a scratching post/cat house/climbing tree? Try laser pointer with kitty for activity periods. If all else fails and kitty does not grow out of this behavior, seek the help of a vet and see about some medication that will provide some relaxation time for kitty. Maybe see about getting some kind of moving distraction for the cat. I bought one of these for my 2 cats to distract them from scratching on the furniture when I drink my morning coffee and it worked like a charm. Freakin' robots, man.

Oh! Oh! If you can't tell by my username, I can help here!

First of all, based on the $85 fee I'm assuming you're adopting adult cats? Thank you so much! Adult cats take forever to find their furever homes. If they're kittens THANK YOU for adopting them in pairs! It's more important than most people think! But no matter what, the one time fee means that you're choosing to adopt instead of supporting a breeder. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this! I foster kittens that are constantly coming and going, so I've gotten a pretty good list of cheap things that work well. Sorry in advance for the wall of text. If you need ANY help at all when it comes to anything cat related, please ask!

  • Food - Make sure you give them whatever the shelter gives them even if you plan on transitioning. It's important that you do it slowly. Here is a good article about how to do it. I highly recommend not going cheap here. If you spend money on one thing, a good diet is where to spend it on! I recommend grain free and/or limited ingredient diets, but I'm not a vet so I'd talk to yours about specifics.
    • Food bowl: You wouldn't think a little bowl would be so damn expensive, but it is. I have a dozen or so of these bowls for the kittens since I use many at a time, but I'd recommend starting out with 4 and see how you do there. Basically have 4 bowls (two to give to each cat for food, and an extra 2 for when the dirty bowls are in the wash). Almost any bowl will work, including the ones you have, but if you were thinking of buying one of those $73.12 bowls because you think your cat needs it and it has a silicone bottom, don't. They're a huge waste of money.
  • Litter/box: Skip all the weird stuff/scents to put in your litter box to get rid of the smell. Just get unscented litter and baking soda. Sprinkle the baking soda on the bottom of the box, fill half your litter, sprinkle some more, fill the rest of your litter. You will also want 2 litter boxes at a minimum. The general rule of thumb is a box per cat + an extra one. As for litter box, I love this one, and here looks like a cheaper and similar version. As for litter, I HIGHLY recommend clumping because non clumping is a nightmare (we need to use it for very small kittens since they can ingest the clumping and it can hurt them). I use petco's bulk litter and love it. If you have one near you, you can pick up a big bin and refill it as needed for a lower price. Here is the big bag of it, but I think a refill on a 30lb thing is 10 dollars?
  • Scratcher: Cats need to scratch, and they'll do it if you provide them with a scratcher or if you provide them with your own furniture. I would recommend at least one of these for each cat, plus maybe a couple extra depending on how big your home is. I have these everywhere because of of my kitties loves using them as beds. Soft fluffy stuff? Not a chance. Hard cardboard? Now we're talking! He's weird, and one of your beauties may be too. This is the best value one I could find, but really any of them would work. I also like this one because it's bed shaped-ish so they can also lay in it.
  • Vet care: Every year you'll need to get vaccines and preferably a checkup for each one of your cats. I know petco recently started doing a clinic day where they JUST the vaccines for something like 40 bucks or something, but that doesn't come with a checkup which I would recommend. I would ask your shelter about low cost vet clinics in your area, I'm sure they would know! I can't find a link where you can put in your zip code and get a list or I would link it :(
  • Toys: This is probably the easiest category to overspend in so don't. There's a lot of fancy looking toys that are great, but your cat gets bored of them quickly and even the best ones will get destroyed. I highly recommend buying a few kinds of cheap toys and seeing what your cat likes. Then regularly replacing them so it's new and shiny! For toys that'll fit in a bag, I like to have a catnip bag that I put some catnip in with the toys. Every so often I'll take toys out of the bag and the cats lose their minds. If after they get bored they're still in good condition - back in the bag they go!
    • Sparkle balls: These become choking hazards really quick, but cats LOVE THEM. I just bought these and they seem to be holding up well. Just like the food, I wouldn't recommend going cheap on them. The good news though is that even the good ones are still pretty cheap! Your local pet store will usually have good quality ones of these as well. Just don't get those "100 sparkle balls for 2 dollars!" off amazon.
    • Multipack: I LOVE this pack because it has a little bit of everything to see what kitty likes. The only downside is that the tunnel is pretty small. That's perfect for my foster kittens, but not so much for an adult cat. If you get it and the tunnel is too small, donate it to your shelter! Something like this also gives you a cheap way to stock up on a variety of toys.
    • Cat Dancer: I buy these in bulk they're so amazing. The link I'm giving you currently has the price of $4.20, but on November 2nd another seller will have them back at stock for 2 bucks each. I wouldn't buy them at 4 dollars, but at 2 they're a steal. The company also has a thing where you can hook them onto your wall and cats will play with it while you're gone. I bought it but haven't set it up yet. Another thing I LOVE about this is that you can wrap them around something.
    • Fishing pole toy: I call all of these kinds of toys a fishing pole toy. It's essentially a stick with something dangling from it. Cats go CRAZY for them and this is a good and cheap one. I also stick the pole part in couch cushions or between the bed and box spring so it's dangling.
  • Cat tower: Honestly, some cats love them, some cats don't. I would eventually get a cat tower (at least one), but don't let it stop you from adopting! Your local pet store will have tons, but I've seen some very happy people who got a massive crazy one for cheap off amazon. I have 4 (3 for my cats, one for the kitten room) that all get very loved but I honestly have no idea where I got them from or I'd link it to you!

is the mother still alive? Kittens learn a lot via playing with their mother.

Can always buy something like this its not perfect, but its better than nothing.

Black and white cats are the least adoptable (people think that they're 'boring') so many rescue centres will be less keen on taking them in because they'll take ages to get rehomed :(

I can't help with rehoming (I have two already), but will share this post and might have some tips that'll either help you (at least in the short term) if they're driving you mad with their boredom.

Things you can try if you wanted to give it another go (if you haven't already tried them, though you probably have)…

With cats you can build upwards to give them the illusion of more space- try getting an ikea shelving unit and putting a bit of carpet on the side so that they can climb up, and a blanket on the top. There was a BBC2 series about cats earlier this month which covered this with some good advice.

Cat shelves. If you Google 'cat cafe london' you'll see pictures of what they've built for their. Cheap and easy.

Get them an interactive toy that you don't need to man - like this one:. I bought my one from Boots two weeks ago.

Try some sort of hormone diffuser-type thing like Feliway. It makes the cats less stressed and anxious.

Herding dogs are very hyperactive dogs but sooo loving. I have an Australian Shepherd. I hate it, but everyone says to me "Aussies are working dogs. They need a job!" Basically herding dogs are very smart and energetic dogs so they need something to focus their mind on. Just training sessions alone aren't going to keep them entertained enough to do as often as needed. You have to make their playing a training lesson too! Every day tasks are training! There's no starting because everything is training!

People always say that a well-mannered puppy is a tired puppy. We play a lot of fetch. Every time we go outside to go potty/poo we play fetch until she's too tired to get the ball. That means we're spending anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes 4-5 times a day just playing fetch. I throw the ball as far as I possibly can (our yard is huge) and have her bring it back then have her drop it. Sometimes she needs to sit/lie down before I'll throw it again. She loooooooves getting the ball and we've worked on bringing it back so this really reinforces her training well for us and she thinks it's a really fun game. Sometimes I'll throw the ball immediately after she's dropped it until she's so tired that she just lies down. We leash-train in the yard, heel in the yard, do all sorts of stuff in exchange for playing or treats or affection.

We have some interesting/stimulating toys to use up energy inside. We have an automatic cat toy that she can chase after. We have a super kong and many, many bone doughnuts, plastic bones, chew bones, chew toys, etc., to keep her puppy-chewing directed away from our stuff. Even if we're watching tv or at the computer we'll still throw her toys for her to run after or get on the floor periodically to play. She's learning that she can only chew her stuff, not ours. And any teeth contact, by accident or not, is met with a "yelp" and we ignore her for a period of time. These days she rarely even accidentally hits us with her teeth.

She goes with me everywhere possible. Seriously: everywhere possible. When I check mail I walk to the end of the driveway with her on a leash and practice her leash skills that way. If she pulls, I spin the opposite direction and walk the other way. The trick is to get them to watch you while you're walking so you're directing, not them. Sometimes it's frustrating to have every task I do all day long take 10x longer because she's with me but I know it'll be worth it when she's a well-trained adult dog. She helps me take the trash out, too. She helps me wash my car. If I have to get gas I'll have her come with me. We don't leave the car for gas in NJ so she gets to interact with the gas station attendants and I have her sit and be polite.

Jumping should always be met with ignoring them. They jump because they want something whether it's food, attention, what-have-you. When you ignore them they aren't getting their way and they'll have to learn to be polite. My aussie never jumps on me, my boyfriend, other people close to her. But she ALWAYS tries her luck with new people. I don't know whether she's so excited that she forgets her manners or whether she's trying to get away with it with someone new but I try to have them ignore her as well until she remembers her manners. Then she's rewarded with good behavior and never bad.

We're not perfect and she has a lot she's working on but it gets better every day. I consider my life with her a 24/7 endeavor. It's rare that I do anything without her by my side, without it being a possible training exercise. :)

LONG. I might title this 'my second tinder match, continued, wherein I get to try some new things.'

This is an update to my previous post.. They both happened last week so I figure they fit here.

We met up again yesterday at my place. She wore a blue sun dress this time and bright red lipstick, which is a fetish of mine. She had said that she wanted to enjoy Sunday and sit on my deck in the sun, and read the paper and drink coffee... But we both knew that would all come second to the main event.

On entering my apartment I closed the door behind us and we stopped pretty much just inside the door by the living room. We stared into each other's eyes for a few moments before starting to make out. At some point she said something like 'I'm willing to do what I need to, to earn the right to hang out on the deck' which was music to my ears. WHO IS THIS WOMAN?? And are there more where she came from.

So she sticks her hands down my pants and unzips me and drops to her knees for a blowjob. Greaaat. After a while I command her to take off her sun dress and now she's kneeling in front of me in the living room on the wall-to-wall carpet, her black lacy underwear stark against the pale skin of her fit, plus sized back -- a wonderful sexy blank erotic space -- and her hips and butt. She's also wearing a bra and heels. Then one of us took off her bra...

I had cupped my right palm against the back of her head as she bobbed up and down, but I also love women's backs and butts, so I'm occasionally stroking her back, and reaching down and squeezing her ass....This continues for another 5 minutes? and then I tell her to flip over to doggie and I take off her underwear (over her heels). I lick my finger, reach down to separate her lips and stir up the wetness, and then I simply start pounding her from behind, doggie. I didn't want to finish there though so after a few minutes we moved into the bedroom. This is where it got [more] interesting.

I hooked her up again to the restaints on the bed -- these by the way -- and put a blindfold on her. Then I climbed on top of her naked body - she's still wearing the heels, though - and started making out with her before mounting her chest and fucking her tits and face. After a few minutes of this, I got off of her and walked out of the bedroom.

Leaving her there without saying a word, I headed into the kitchen, grabbed a small mug, and put a fistful of ice into it from the freezer. On the way back to the bedroom I popped a piece in my mouth. I got back to her bound and blinded form and immediately started sucking her nips, introducing her to a sudden and hopefully unexpected coldness (she might have heard the ice rattling around in the kitchen from there). About 10 minutes of ice play followed, and I like to do it slowly and with varying (short) breaks so that she's not sure whether there's going to be ice or not, or where ... I did place a piece of ice on her labia for around 15? seconds - in retrospect (for me but not for, you, dear reader, but all will be made clear) I should have left it there for a minute at least - it might have stung!

Yes, you read that right ;-)

A few more minutes of ice play and I abandoned the ice to return to basic mouth and hand. I worked my way down to her breasts, alternating sucking and lightly biting on each one, and simultaneously fingering her pussy.

I wanted to get her off, and she was clearly enjoying this, but it's nice to know what a partner likes. So I said to her, what do you like?? And she said, bite me more. Hard.

I'd never bitten anyone HARD before. She's bound wrist and ankle spread-eagled on the bed and blindfolded and now she wants me to bite her nipples like some walking dead zombie.

Can do!

I begin sucking her right nipple, and then I nip down hard on it in my front teeth and suck while pulling my head back, causing her breast to sort of vertically extend from her chest to my mouth. Her nipple is in between my front teeth. I thought I tasted something but she's not pregnant so it couldn't have been milk - it must have just been sweat. Anyway.

She gasps with pleasure.

So I let that one go and repeat this move with her left breast. More pleasurable noises and I can she she's loving it as she thrashes her restrained body around.

Now I start to be creative, for me anyway, as I've never been in this situation before. So I slap her breast - whack! - and she loves it. Now I'm biting and sucking and one, and whomping the other one and she's into it. I move my hand to her pussy and she's wet and slick. I can feel her get wetter as I smack her nipples.

Then I have another creative moment and I decide to bite on her nipple, suck hard, pull my head back to 'extend' the breast, and then, trying to time it just right, I release her tit from my teeth and at the same time give it a stinging WHACK! with my right hand. It takes two tries to get the timing right but she goes a little wild. I'm sort of proud I came up with this move which I, of course, now privately refer to as the 'Scum-and-Nipplely.' (No I don't. But it seems like a good move.)

I keep this up for a while and then I recall that I read or saw that some women like to have their pussy slapped. I've never done that, either. So I give her pussy a flat-handed slap and am rewarded with a gasp. Remember that she can't see any of this coming.

She really starts squirming. I give her V one slap. and wait. and one slap....and wait...then I bite her right nipple and give her V a series of slaps with my right hand, whack whack whack whack whack whack whack whack- the response is squirming, moaning, thrashing...It's great.

Then I try to kiss her and she turns her face to the side!! Seriously, I was surprised. I was like wtf is going on?? But only for maybe...5 seconds? Then I understood. I grabbed her head with both hands, forced her face straight and kissed her violently. I was assured I was doing what she wanted when she bit my tongue but didn't bite it off, which I imagine she would have done if I had suddenly been doing things she didn't like...

I see what's going on and I like it. She continues to turn her head away as I try to kiss her, and then when I go to finger her she closes her legs hard (she can't close them all the way, but the under-the-bed restraints had moved around the corner of the mattress a bit and gave her more leeway). I like this game. I move down between her legs and force them all the way open with my arms . Then I jam my face in her pussy and eat her out vigorously while using my arms to force her legs open. I've never (had to do? been lucky enough to do?) anything like this before but I'm totally into it. I'm munching away and she keeps 'trying' to close her legs. She's moaning and bucking and squirming.

At some point I thought a riding crop would be nice. I don't ride horses and I haven't prepared for this, so I don't have one in the house. However, I DO have a cat, and this is one of his toys. Purrrrfect! I get off of her and go into the living room and grab it. I climb back on top of her - again, she's blindfolded - and give her a few kisses.

----
You know what, that photo of it sucks. I looked on line and couldn't find a good one, so here [OC] it is.

But I was using it like this. Thwack! The braid is leather or some fake leather. Real enough anyway.

----

Then I sit up - I'm straddling her - and after a pause during which I take careful aim, I give her a left nipple a sudden stinging whack with the leather braid and cord of the cat wand. This is unexpected to her, but her reaction is pure pleasure. So I whack her nipple and wait....And then whack the other one and wait....I'm taking my time; she's getting red, livid straight lines on her body. I'd call them 'crop marks,' but they truthfully are cat toy marks.

I took some time slowly and methodically striking her breasts and then moved to her body and her vagina. The cat toy doesn't have the weight to really smack a vj, though, but she seemed to love it. I alternated between swatting her body with the leather braided/corded cat toy, and working her over with my teeth and tongue.

At this point I've been attacking her for a solid 30 or even 40 minutes and I'm running out of steam. It's only like 1pm on Sunday and I haven't eaten food yet.

I launch an all-out biting and tounging attack on her body in an effort to give her a big O, which kind of reminded me of the fireworks finale at a July 4 celebration.

We spent most of the rest of the day reading the paper on the deck, drinking coffee, at some point we went out for a bloody mary and some light food, and then back to my place where we hung out more before some chill naked play.

Then she had to get back home.

It was 8:30pm. We'd been hanging out about 8 hours....

Looks like a Play-N-Squeak.

One of my cats is exactly like her. Only toy she will chase, and actually go completely ham over is Da Bee

u/CorgisAndCheese · 4 pointsr/bengalcats

It's like a hamster wheel for cats, bengals tend to love them. And you don't have to get a second bengal, a second cat of any breed would probably be good. You also don't have to get a second cat lol.

Other than someone taking the cat, it's not more of a risk than other cats. I do think other cats being outdoor cats are too much of a risk for them as well. That said there are alternatives for letting a cat enjoy the outdoors without giving them free roam such as harness training them, having a catio for them, or a cat proof fenced in house (which is by far the most expensive and not doable without a ton of property surrounding the house but it is possible lol)

Here are some toy suggestions to help with your kittens energy:

this wand toy which I've seen make even the laziest cat chase after I don't know what it is about this toy specifically maybe it's the leather tassels or the fur thing but I've never not seen it drive a cat crazy.

This cat ball track things

This cat dancer toy with the wall attachment Trust me that the wall attachment is super important.

Really thick pony tail elastics Be sure to watch her and make sure she doesn't try eating one.

Plastic water bottle caps, Christmas ornaments, and bouncy balls are also great things for cats to bat around when they're a bit bored.

Also things for her to climb on, a small cat tree is always great.

Good luck! And do keep in mind that she'll be less energetic as she gets older.

You're not a bad pet owner; as the former director of the world's largest cat-only adoption organization and sanctury, I hereby absolve you of your concerns about being a bad pet guardian.

If you need some alone time and he's driving you nuts temporarily, puting him in his own little playroom (your bathrooom) is totally appropriate; especially if you leave a few fun things in there for him to play with.

Toys like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Bergan-Turbo-Scratcher-Colors-Vary/dp/B000IYSAIW/ref=sr_1_3?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1417859614&sr=1-3&keywords=cat+toys

and this:

are great options to keep him entertained.

As they get older, cats tend to spend the vast majority of their time sleeping; he'll get there. Enjoy him as much as you can; and when you need a break, let him have a few hours recess in his playroom.

It's all good...

OK, I'm going to try to answer your questions. First though, it sounds like you're mostly on the right track. :)

How old is your kitten? I'm guessing between 6-9 months going by your problems with her.

Scratching doors is a relatively easy fix - keep her nails trimmed and ignore it 100% of the time.

For most of these problems prevention and rewarding good behaviors is the answer, honestly. Ditch the spray gun entirely, you've already seen its not working and it's much easier to teach her what you do want.

She NEEDS access to scratchers. Cat nails don't grow like ours or like dogs, they grow up and out in layers like an onion. In order to pop the top layer off (which she needs to do for healthy paws) she needs to scratch. Make a point of rewarding her when she's scratching her post. You can also sprinkle catnip on them to encourage her to use it.

If she likes chewing on cardboard I'd get her some old boxes. She may be teething (kittens get molars around 9 months) so having things she's allowed to chew is very important. My cats liked this when they were teething. They still love it, actually.

As for her waking you up early, ignoring her is a big part of it. NEVER feed her until you've been awake an hour, or she'll need to get up an hour before you to start 'hunting' (aka being a pest).

The second piece to that is to tire her out at night. Either hide her evening kibbles before you go to bed so she has to 'hunt' for them, or use a wand toy to run her until she's panting then give her a snack.

That should get her sleeping longer.

Most of the problems your having are kitten problems and she'll grow out of them. Play with her more, consider clicker training, and wait. If you're consistent she'll be better behaved by the time she's 2 and more grown up. :)

Thank you so much for taking them in!

They're fine being inside a room in a house with food, water, toys (you did get them toys, yes?), things to scratch and climb, and protected from the elements. Your health questions/concerns have been covered really well by other posters. If you don't mind, I'll talk about something else.

If you haven't already, go to Walmart, Target, Petco, PetsMart or whatever your moderately-priced local equivalent is and get some cardboard scratchers (horizontal & vertical or inclined), squeaky toys, a cat pole (<$45 @ Walmart, goes from ceiling to floor with 3 shelves) or pay a bit more and get a tower. The towers are good because it gives the cats high places in addition to integrated scratching posts. However, multiple individual scratching posts are also helpful in encouraging the kittens to use them rather than your furniture or carpet. Spreading them around your home may help with this.

Nearly everyone is running some sort of Memorial Day sale right now so the towers may currently be much more reasonably priced. Also looking at some in person (my local Petco had a couple set up), if possible, gives you a better idea regarding their stability. Also recommend Amazon and Wayfair for the towers- just pay attention to the reviews.

You'll need a pet carrier to transport them; again check reviews and get a higher rated one. Because they're so small now, I would personally get a larger carrier capable of transporting all of them together until they reach a combined ~20 pounds or so.

Try to pick up a variety of toys. My cats always loved the little battery operated critters that chirped or squeaked like birds & mice. Catnip mice are almost universally adored. They'll also love chasing after things so try to get a wand toy as well. Just stroll through the pet dept and choose a few.

This is going to be fun. Across my multiple wishlists...

1.) Something that is grey.
Grey bedsheets.

2.) Something reminiscent of rain.
Pet water fountain.

3.) Something food related that is unusual.
Astronaut Ice Cream

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!)
This Bruins banner is for my BFF Becky. She loves the Bruins more than anything. Hockey is her obsession. I put it on my list to remind myself to get it for her at some point. It would make her happy.

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!
The Name of the Wind. Of everything I've read in the past 6 months, this one I devoured and have been desperate for the second book in (it's on my list to pick up this week, actually, if my paycheck EVER comes in).

Look, I hate... HATE... first person perspective. I see it as a sign of sloppy writing. However, this book had me SOLD on it. Kvothe is possibly one of my new favorite characters OF ALL TIME.

Avid reader doesn't even begin to describe me. I have my own library. I need books like air. And if I had to make a list of 100 books that were all I was allowed to have for the rest of my life, THIS WOULD BE ON IT.

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!
This kindle book

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...)
The most interesting cat toy in the world

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it.
This choker. Enough said.

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?
The Breakfast Club Why? Because. It's a good movie. Whether you were the jock, the brain, the spoiled brat, the loser, or the troublemaker-- there's a character you can identify with, and it shows that whatever and whoever you are, you can get along with someone who isn't in your clique.

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.
A Seed Vault

Everyone worries about fighting zombies.

Dumb. You see, when the zombies come, I'm holing up. A few weeks and if they are undead, they'll have rotted themselves to death. If they are fast moving, viral sumbitches, then they'll have likely ended up offing themselves through dehydration or whatever.

In any event, I'll wait them out. But then, I will need to rebuilt and eat.

(Besides, I have my trusty zombie-killing baseball bat, and a bow. Quiet. Efficient.)

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals.
This book on Aztec and Inca expansionism. I'm back in school, and my focus is Mesoamerican Studies. Eventual degrees, here I come!

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items.
Zucchini seeds.

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?
A KitchenAid Mixer Why? I like to cook and bake. My mother has one that I used for years when I was a kid and still living with her. I'm 30 now. I remember she got it when I was like, 5. IT STILL WORKS. Over a dozen moves, being abused for holidays making bread and cookies and cakes, being used by my Dad (I swear, he looks at appliances and they break) and it STILL FUNCTIONS PERFECTLY.

I cannot think of a kitchen appliance that would be more useful.

14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave.

This loft bed

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.
How about 7 somethings? A set of dice.

16.) Something that smells wonderful.
Italian Herb Bread Mix It smells good when you open the box. When it's mixed. While it's rising. While it bakes. After it bakes. As you've slathered butter on it and begin to nom.

17.) A (SFW) toy.
Hawkeye is so SFW I would bring him in to put on my desk.

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.
This book, of course.

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.
Funko Tyrion Lannister because even a small man can cast a great shadow.

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand.
This.

No one will understand the magnificence of this plushie.

It is a rotund, cuddly, snuggly Cthulhu.

But Cthulhu does not cuddle. He does not care. When the stars are right, he will rise from the deeps and from his seat Ry'leh, devour his cultists-- and everyone else-- by the millions, and bring forth an end to all things.

But how can you deny his Elder God wrath? HOW?! Look at him, all squishy and warm and soft. Look at his little T-Rex arms, reaching out for your love and devotion. His eyes, his wiggly little face tentacles. YOU MUST SNUGGLE HIM.

Well you are right that took a bit of work. I had to create a list and move things around. Well worth the effort though so thanks for the prompt!

Cutest thing on my list is probably this

Though that is not the item I “want” the most. That would probably be the reusable produce bags, the muddler or the smarty cat electric toy.

Crate training saved me and my puppy, so I highly recommend it. We unexpectedly ended up fostering her a couple of months ago and I don't think we would have kept her if we didn't crate. Man, that first night was rough though. She was so whiny, even though I had the warm toy (this one has beans in a little cloth bag you can warm up in the microwave) and we turned on a couple of fans for the white noise... but I probably got <4 hours of sleep that night. Just remember, sometimes the pup will be crying because it misses you, and sometimes it legitimately needs to go potty, and you want to balance how often you check on them so you're not giving them attention for whining just to see you. I took mine out every 2-3 hours and she at least didn't have any accidents. And then the next night she slept from 10pm-5am without a peep! It will probably take some pups longer, but eventually they should get that crate time is quiet/sleepy time.

You probably know this, but make sure crate time is never, ever punishment time. Even if you just need an hour of quiet, don't banish your pup to the crate with nothing to do (it's just asking for trouble). Mine is 7-8 months old(ish) and she still gets a small treat just for going into puppy jail, and a kong full of yummy stuff if she has to be in there for a longer period of time.

This is getting rambly... But PM me if you ever need to talk. I cried so much when we first got our puppy. I really didn't think we'd be able to keep her. But now that we've worked through the potty training and the whining and the chewing... I can't imagine my family without her :)

I'm sorry about your baby... losing pets is the worst feeling ever. I lost my baby girl kitty about a year and a half ago, she was the best cat ever. But, I can't live without a cat so I ended up adopting a new one...

http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/virtual-pet-behaviorist/cat-behavior/aggression-between-cats-your-household My advice: (1) it may be the cats have too much energy. Directing that energy to more beneficial ends would be helpful. Here's a cheap alternative to human presence: http://www.amazon.com/KITTY-CITY-Pouncing-Paws-Motorized/dp/B003PNT3QG/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1395191158&sr=8-6&keywords=cat+toy+as+seen+on+tv It's no full replacement, but your schedule is kind of awful. (2) separate the cats to their own areas. it may seem unethical to keep the one cat in one room, but the goal is to get the cats to feel secure in their territory. reintroducing them slowly would help.

u/Arshion · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I bought This and This for my super active, playful kitty last summer.. I realize the first one just looks like cardboard on a wire.. but.. she loves it so much, it's scary. She prefers it over any other toy I've ever gotten her, it's ridiculous. NOW, I bought these before they were addon items, so in case addons aren't allowed:

This has lots of different textures and includes drugs for your baby cat.

I also take a lot of convincing to buy myself something! I sit there and put all kinds of different stuff into my cart and then "Well... do I need that or would I rather eat?" pops into my head lol. Also, as one Lush addict to another, you can make a wishlist on Lush.com and it has your address and stuff stored into it so people can gift you from your Amazon wishlist, because it takes them straight to your Lush wishlist! Also you're kitty totally needs this!

Eh I don't know what's the most important item on my list. Each item is as important as the others really.

But this cat toy would definitely be up there as my cat means a lot to me. I feel I don't do enough for her and I'm always worrying I'm not providing enough for her, even though I'm told I spoil her a bit.. I've made her window cushions for sleeping on as I couldn't afford to buy her some and always put her needs before my own. So getting a gift for her would make me ecstatic.

And now I'm going to go hide in my crazy cat lady shame!

I totally agree with TheCatGuardian's post. We just adopted our first cat from a shelter and he is 8 months old, and honestly he's still a bit of a handful at times (but that should be expected with any new pet). Try to get one over a year, if not closer to 2 years, as ours is still learning how to play nice and not nipping our ankles to get attention. My husband has always had cats, but this was my first pet and we adopted because I've always wanted one. I did a ton of research and here's what I would suggest as far as supplies:

A high sided litter box with rim - to keep them from kicking litter around and the high walls help keep everything inside. I didn't waste the money on litter liners. They seem gimmicky to me.

Pooper Scooper - It's cheap and gets the job done. Nothing else needs to be said about it.

Stainless Steel Bowl(s) - This one gets good reviews and is the perfect size for their food. You can get two, one for wet and one for dry food. Though I got this one for dry and got a cute oval dish at walmart for ~$2 for his wet. Whatever you want.

Slightly larger bowl for water - Make sure they have plenty for fresh water. I give him new water in the AM and evening after work. I know a lot of people rave about water fountains...but honestly I didn't want to spend the money initially, and my kitty seems to be perfectly fine drinking from the bowl. It'd be worth it to see how your cat feels about the bowl...esp since they will be drinking from bowls at the shelter...they shouldn't be too picky. You can spoil them later on if you decide to, but definitely not necessary.

A safety collar - Make sure it is either a break-away or elastic to ensure the cat doesn't get strangled if it climbs and gets stuck on something and is hanging by its neck. I liked this one because it didn't have an annoying bell, though some like the bell to let you find your cat in the house. The collar also ensure that if the cat gets out anyone who finds him will know he belongs to someone and isn't just a feral cat that they can take for themselves.

Scratching Board - Simple and good reviews. Seems like it will last. You can also get one or two cardboard cheaper ones and see what they prefer to scratch on. My cat doesn't really scratch that much...he uses the scratching posts that are part of his cat tree.

Cat Perch - This is the one we got so he can look out the window. It seems like a good balance of expense and functionality...especially at first. The cat might not even like jumping up on things, so at least this is a safe buy since it's not that tall but still lets them get up off the floor.

Cat bed - This one is highly reviewed and really durable. It's machine washable and will last forever. I really love this bed.

Simple toys at first: Wand Toy, Jingle Balls, Ball Circle Thing, Little Catnip Critter. He also likes paper bags, toilet paper rolls, and his laser pointer. I highly recommend the laser pointer...ours is green.

Greenies Treats

As far as food, you want to ask what they feed at the shelter and get a bag of that at first even if you read online that it isn't "the best." We wanted to get our cat on a mainly wet food diet, so we left his shelter dry food out at night, and gave him half a can of wet food in the morning before work, and half a can at night beofre bed ~9PM, and took the dry food away while the wet food was out. We feed him Friskies Pate...it's actually pretty good for the price. People will get passionate about cat food. Honestly Friskies is fine for us now...they sell it in bulk at Sam's.

Litter - you want to use the kind they use at the shelter so they have comfort in that. You can switch later if you want.

You might also want to get nail clippers and a brush. Our cat is long haired and I like using a comb, but it's really up to you.

As far as gimmicks I would assume that if it seems like a luxury it probably isn't necessary. Cats are very happy with simple things. The vitals are what I listed...a bathroom, food and water (bowls), a few toys, somewhere to scratch, somewhere to get up off the floor, and a safety collar. The bed isn't absolutely vital, but it's nice for them to have somewhere that they feel secure and happy...even if they don't use it at first.

My name is Leela!

I would like these treats. I also like this toy, but Mom says it's 50 cents too expensive. Whatever that means.

Viktor, tell your mom to get you this! I would like to play with that and you. Between my good looks (Mom says I have a one-of-a-kind face, which means I am the most beautiful cat) and your hypnosis, I think we would make a great benevolent dictatorship duo. Hanners can come too, I like dogs...but I think Viktor and I will see more eye-to-eye. Or I guess, eye-to-eyes...you have two of them, Viktor? How unusual!

I want to be friends with Hanners and Viktor :)

My kitten (now 7 mos) likes to knead and suckle when he was little, we got him at 8 weeks old. We found him an appropriate place to do it instead of discouraging it.

Petstages makes a Soothe soft cat toy/pillow that purrs, we call it Mama. He loved it. It still calms him down when he’s getting a bit too rambunctious.

We got it at Petsmart, but they have it on amazon too.

Petstages Soothe Cat Toy/Pillow

u/ageedoy · 1 pointr/puppy101

Dunno if this will work for you, but we gradually distanced our puppy further from us at night. At first we'd keep him in his kennel on the night stand, so he could see us. We did this for a few weeks and gradually moved him to the floor near our bed. Then progressed to move his kennel closer to the door, then outside our door until finally he was comfortable enough to stay by himself at night in another room.

It also makes it easier if his kennel becomes a safe place for him. Like others have mentioned. Put a treat or a favorite toy in there with him. Our pup really liked this guy: http://www.amazon.com/Petstages-101-Puppy-Cuddle-Pal/dp/B0006MU8WC/ We'd microwave the insert to simulate having a warm buddy cuddling with him.

I love these contests! This is Kitty. She's the love of my life. When I moved away to college, so went along and helps with the homesickness. Sometimes I don't have much time to play with her (due to work, school, & extracurriculars). Therefore, I think this toy may keep her entertained! It's located on her very own wishlist, http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/9QYZNUJT5TNT/ref=topnav_lists_4. She is a man's best friend.

u/MyBallsBern4Bernie · 1 pointr/Enough_Sanders_Spam

Oh boy have I wasted a ton of money trying to find shit the kitty likes to play with! Here is the best combo I found:

This attachment +with this handle.

The trick is you have to bounce it around as if it’s a mouse - little skips and hops, quick sprints running alongside the wall or furniture, then “hide” when spotted. Hence why I’m recommending a specific handle because it’s the one I’ve found that offers the most control, and it extends so I can catch her interest by flinging it past her line of view and into a “hide and seek” posture. Remember, she’s a cat - she wants to hunt!

ETA: ps don’t waste your money on other fancy looking shit, she’ll be more interested in the box it came in and you’ll regret wasting your money!

E2: missed that you have 2 other cats! Yes, of course she’ll leave bummertown when she has friends to play with!

u/sipos0 · 1 pointr/cats

> I think some cats will eat due to boredom when food is left out all of the time.

I've heard this too. In-door cats do need something to play with when you aren't home so they don't get bored and, so they get some exercise on their own. Perhaps something like this.

u/rchard · 1 pointr/Pets

For his loneliness, have you tried giving him an item of yours or your girlfriend's while you're out? Like putting a sweatshirt or a small blanket on the floor? Having your scent around to cuddle with might ease his mind somewhat. I've heard the scent of lavender is comforting for cats as well, just in general.

To make his bed more enticing at night, maybe try one of these. It's basically a stuffed animal for cats that you can throw in the microwave for 30 seconds and stick in their bed. It smells good to them. My kitties love it! We got it at PetCo. If he still insists on sleeping with you guys, maybe try making the top of the bed more attractive to him (by your heads) so he's in a less dangerous spot while he's still so small.

Hope that helps! Congratulations on your new family member!

u/librarychick77 · 1 pointr/CatTraining

It sounds like she's teething. Kittens do get molars when they reach the start of real adulthood- just like people do.

Something like the dentastix u/PurrPrinThom recommended are a good idea, or you can try things like this which is a chew toy designed for cats. (There's a similar toy that's a mouse, but my cats ate the tail right off so I don't recommend them...)

You can also give her small dog chew toys. The idea is to find a texture she likes and provide an appropriate alternative - so if she likes wood and paper maybe give her a cardboard box she's allowed to kill. I've done this with foster kittens in the past - it is messy, but far better than them (literally) chewing the walls.

I just buy stuff at the pet store, but I can try and find a few recommendations. You'll want to avoid things with bells or small parts, at least while she's tiny. PetSmart usually has some pretty good stuff, or you can even find a good selection on Amazon. If you're gone a lot, it also might be a good idea to invest in something you can turn on and leave running while you're gone, like this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WP7F8YC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_2GCMBb2JZP9JV.

Ironically, my cat's favorite toy is a piece of cut up fleece on a stick that I got from the pet store.

Here are a few homemade things that look fun:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/496293492/cat-toy-kitten-toy-kitten-puzzle-cat

https://www.etsy.com/listing/573944129/catnip-toy-medium-kicker-cat-toy-cat

And here are some more things from Amazon that I would recommend:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DT2WL26/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_bLCMBbEDZ585B

And
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QPLUQXY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_dOCMBbRA7B6MM

Just make sure she's careful with the string on this one. As long as she doesn't break it off and swallow it, it should be fine.

Some sort of a laser pointer is always a great toy for kitties, just make sure not to shine it in her eyes.

Finally, make sure to get her a cat tree if you have room for one. Cats like to climb. Something like this would be great:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0794T79KM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ERCMBbM18RTGA

Scratching posts are also important, so here's what I would recommend for a scratching post, if you don't want to get the cat tree:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BY385RX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fTCMBbKA5B15Q

Once you spay her, if she isn't already, feed her adult food so she doesn't gain too much weight. A good kitten food to start her on before the spay is Good Natured, at PetSmart. If she's spayed and you want to start her on adult food, I use this, and my cat loves it, and she's super healthy:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XDQCL13/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_0VCMBbHDBF7XG

If you have any other questions, please feel free to message me. I have had my cat for two years, and raised her since she was three months old, so I can answer a lot of kitten questions.

One more thing, get her a bed. She may not always use it, but she will appreciate it.

u/notlikeme · 1 pointr/Pets

Either get another cat or play with your cat more. Obviously, Presley is looking for attention and/or something to do, so you have to provide that for them. have you considered tree? When my kitten got bored, we got a tree and she loves it still. It's big and it's bulky, but it works, and we didn't have to get second cat. Not that I didn't want to get a second cat, but we are already one pet over on our lease. You could also try something like http://www.amazon.com/KITTY-CITY-Pouncing-Paws-Motorized/dp/B003PNT3QG/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1418130818&sr=8-13&keywords=best+cat+toys . My cat loves this thing. Nothing wrong with laying next to the crate, but if he's coming from a situation where he was with a lot of other dogs, this might be a good tool for you. If that's too expensive and he's small enough, this should be sufficient and it's a lot cheaper. Our dog had the same issues, but the latter option was much too small for her. I hope that helps. :-)
