i use it with NFC stickers around the house, paired with Trigger I can do all sorts of automation:

  • lay my phone down next to the lamp to start playing music and turn on wifi.
  • slap my phone against the wall as I leave the house to turn off wifi and enable bluetooth (for the car).
  • put it on the counter to enable tethering.
  • etc.

See update here which includes a Ringke case review:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS8/comments/6a6syd/update_four_thin_cases_reviewed_1/

Original post:

Top to bottom:

  • elago (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XHFYJM7/)
  • Bear Motion (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XRVK3WS/)
  • Maxboost mSnap (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XS8R8TK/)
  • Spigen Thin Fit (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XP54BCW/)

I've been trying out these four thin cases. In the image you can see my S8 face down in each case, with a Verizon tempered glass screen protector on. You can see the edge of it, a white line which curves downward at each end.

I'm thinking of removing the screen protector, so I took these photos to see which case would provide the most protection when the S8 is face down without a screen protector. The Spigen has a raised lip at the top and bottom of the case that just barely keeps the screen protector off the surface below. The Maxboost lips are about even with the screen protector. The Bear Motion lips barely rise above the S8 screen, and there are no lips on the elago.

The Spigen is the most robust case and is the biggest weighing 18 grams, has a raised lip around the camera for extra protection (you can see it in the bottom picture), has space for a metal plate for a magnetic car mount (if you like that sort of thing), and is made of a grippy matte material. Definitely this feels like the case with the most protection. Very nice.

The Maxboost is slightly smaller than the Spigen and weighs 17 grams. It's matte material is a bit less grippy and the buttons aren't as easy to press because the openings aren't cut away like the Spigen. There is no raised lip for the camera. I like it though because it is slightly smaller than the Spigen.

The Bear Motion is made of a sandy feeling matte material that provides great grip. It is about the same size as the Maxboost but only weighs 13 grams and has cut-away button openings and a very small raised lip for the camera. I like it too!

The elago is extremely thin, weighing only 5 grams. It is barely bigger than the phone itself. It is so thin that mine got a small rip near the power button on the right when I was taking it on and off, and the left side is slightly loose, not as snug as the right. Buttons are easy to press as they actually protrude beyond the sides of the case! It is matte, grippy but not quite as grippy as the others. It also has a small raised lip for the camera. It feels great in the hand but doesn't give confidence as it has no protection to speak of except for scratches and fingerprints.

Although size-wise the Spigen is my least favorite, I may end up using it because it inspires the most confidence, seems like it might do better in a drop situation, while protecting the screen better when the phone is face down due to having the largest top and bottom lips, and also the biggest lip around the camera.

I use the Rugged armor, good balance between protection and less bulk.

u/RapeytheClown · 10 pointsr/LGG3

I use this case http://www.amazon.com/Unicorn-Beetle-Full-body-Protective-Protector/dp/B00JW7APWU
and really like it. It has a screen cover case that is attached to the case with an adhesive and is easily removable if you don't like it.

u/-SUBW00FER- · 9 pointsr/Android

I guess I am the only one who feels this way. I like my S8 with this case on better than the naked phone. I hate the feel of glass.

u/fallnangel7 · 9 pointsr/iPhoneX

This is the case I got for my X. It’s clear so it shows off the beauty of the phone. Isn’t bulky at all but still does a fantastic job protecting the phone. As far as the front, I just got an invisisheild. I use this one, which is about the slimmest one i could find that was rubber like instead of plastic. I use the same on my iPhone as well. I drop both phones frequently and have never had any damage.

u/Ovar9002 · 8 pointsr/GalaxyS7

I definitely second this. I recommend that you get the Spigen Rugged Armor case. It's about 10-15 dollars and it's pretty good.

u/TEHMONSTRO · 8 pointsr/GalaxyS7

Was looking into this case... BUT.. I ended up not ordering for the following reasons:

The weird gaps in the corners

  • Why?: Because I can see myself jabbing myself with the ridges every time I go to reach for my phone in my pocket and holding it would feel odd to me over time.

    The slick hard plastic

  • Why?: Because wouldn't this make the case just as slippery as the glass back on it already? I don't like hard cases for this reason. Having it on your lap, etc. makes it just as easy to slip off as not having the case on regardless.

What Did I end up going with in this cases place? I have the Silver Titanium S7 Edge on Pre-Order and ordered:

  • Spigen Neo Hybrid Case for GS7 Edge in Satin Silver
  • Spigen Neo Hybrid Crystal Case for GS7 Edge in Satin Silver

And I also purchased the following screen protector:

  • ArmorSuit MilitaryShield - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Screen Protector

I plan to do a review on both cases and which I prefer with pictures.

EDIT: I actually cancelled my Screen Protector order, as it does not appear it is a genuine product. Looked into the reviews more, some people are saying the hole cutouts are not lining up correctly.

I have the Tudia CYDGEN case for my OPO, and I love it.

Raised edge around the screen, TPU, extruded buttons, holes for all mics and speakers and stuff. Great case.
I'm using mine with an ORZLY Tempered Glass protector as well.

I have this slim maxboost case an honestly, I love it. It's incredibly thin, fits well and has held up since release really well. 10/10 recommend it. It's only $10

u/jbwhovian · 7 pointsr/iphone

I would recommend the Spigen Ultra Hybrid case Amazon

u/CSyoey · 6 pointsr/tasker

Something like NFC Stickers?

u/akashik · 6 pointsr/Nexus6P

Out of the box the 6P has a saturated screen color. If you prefer a more natural color turn on Developer Options and go to:

Settings > Developer Options > Picture Color Mode

and turn on Use sRGB.

You have a multi-colored notification light at the top left of the phone. To make it display in different colors you'll need an app. I like Light Manager.

Your finger print scanner is going to be your new bestie. many apps that require logins now support the scanner. Lastpass and a ton of banking apps come to mind.

NFC works well (though you need to remember it's located right at the top in the visor on the back. I use a bunch of little NFC tags and NFC Tools to have the phone open Android Auto in my car and to open a shopping list when I tap it against one of my cupboards in the kitchen.

u/-Ravenzfire- · 6 pointsr/GalaxyS7

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A7IDCC2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use this one on my S7 Edge. I think it's probably close to what you are looking for. It's got kind of a rubber/grippy texture to it and I love it, never have a problem with it slipping out of my hand. It's definitely a slim fit so not a ton of protection but I rarely if ever drop my phone so just wanted something with basic protection and good grip.

Edit: Found an S7 version:

Super thin?

This wins: https://www.amazon.com/elago-Galaxy-Plus-Origin-Black/dp/B06XXLQ4PG/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1492198545&sr=1-1&keywords=elago+s8+plus

Thing is like paper LOL i have it and its just a very thin piece of plastic only meant to protect from scratches. Waiting for the phone so I can slap it on but I imagine its going to look/fit like a skin.

EDIT: the first two look like the same case only different names as the one i posted... Why are these random companies the only ones to have precise cutouts for the camera, flash and fingerprint sensor whereas big names like Spigen got lazy and just cut out one big hole..

u/sonnyboy77 · 6 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I think these are the slimmest out there. They are only .3mm. I have one and don't think you can get any slimmer.

I bought the mate black version, although it saved me the other night when my iphone fell down.

u/ARDad · 5 pointsr/LGG3

I had a Spigen case on mine and dropped it, shattered the screen. I think it hit a rock. now I have the "Unicorn Beetle" from SupCase which I think protects better, it's got a full rubber surround, like a Defender, but it's thinner and the rubber is less prone to stretch and get ruined.

u/flipray87 · 5 pointsr/LGG3

Ordered the SUPCASE Uniform Beetle. I wanted to get a spigen case, but the spigen cases have that antenna cutout for the korean models. Hopefully they'll have an updated U.S. Version

u/ldw1220 · 5 pointsr/nexus5x

I'm using a Diztronic case. This one: http://www.amazon.com/Nexus-5X-Case-Diztronic-N5X-FM-BLK-R/dp/B0176S4DMY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464135905&sr=8-1&keywords=diztronic+nexus+5x

I like it with one exception. The edges around the screen are a bit high and can make moving an icon from one screen to another tricky. I've been thinking about trimming them down. That's a small complaint though and I would still recommend it.

u/demouser321 · 5 pointsr/Nexus

Very happy with my Diztronic...protection without bulk and good feel.

u/001100000 · 5 pointsr/oneplus

I'm using this one, after installing it you can see a bit of a matrix of dots, but only when off-angle and when the screen is off. Doesn't show in normal use with the screen on. Definitely worth the £9, knowing that OnePlus doesn't have the best customer service reputation. I'm using the OtterBox case that OnePlus has on their site, the screen protector works fine with it.

Nice quality and holds just fine.

u/dakoellis · 4 pointsr/LGG3

I personally went with the spigen slim armor. It's a bit slippery but I'm confident in it's non-dramatic drop protection. The Unicorn Beetle PRO seems like a really good protective case as well

SUPCase Unicorn Beetle. $10-13 on Amazon. Snug fit, not much bulk, decent basic protection.

I use the Clear/Black on my black VZW model, and Clear/Grey on the GF's white VZW and they look great.

u/Favna · 4 pointsr/jailbreak

NFC stands for Near Field Communication. If you've ever used a badge or a keyfob for door access or used ApplePay you've used NFC. This release opens up NFC for jailbreak users and we can read/write NFC data via the NFC chip in iPhones.
Also the wikipedia entry for NFC has a pretty good video.

Lastly famous usages for NFC are:

  • Nintendo Amiibo figures

  • Some fitness machines (my personal fitness has them, from TechnoGym)

  • Wireless paying. This includes both Apple Pay and its knockoffs (google pay, samsung pay etc) but also wireless paying with bank card. The latter is, last I heard, not very common in Murica but over here in The Netherlands it is super super common and stores even want you to use it in favor of your own security.

  • Adding WiFi networks (instead of typing the security pass). Some routers support this

And here and here are some more examples. NFC is a really awesome technology because it's super easy to use, tags are really cheap (8 for 10 bucks on amazon) and these kind of tags can hold all kinds of data from web addresses to share to the aforementioned data of Nintendo Amiibo figures if you can find their decryption keys (they are uhm.. "available" on the internet if you know what I mean)
u/Papander · 4 pointsr/oneplus

Screen protectors will most likely give good protection against scratches. However there is no actual proof anywhere on the internet that screen protectors would offer any meaningful protection against drops.

"I dropped my phone and only the screen protector cracked." People tend to use that as a proof that it works. But in reality they can't be sure if the screen would have cracked without the screen protector.

Screen protectors are more fragile than your screen. For example some people have received screen protectors that have already cracked in the mail. The Ozrly tempered glass screen protector that gets mentioned here a lot is only 0.24mm thick. Also it's highly unlikely that the phone is going to fall on the floor and land flat on its face. Screen protectors don't offer any protection to impacts on corners/sides of the phone.

A case like TUDIA Slim-Fit CYGEN Dual Layer Protective Case for OnePlus One will offer more protection against drops. The edges on it are raised above the screen little bit. So get a case to protect your phone against drops. But know that the phone will feel different on your hand due to the texture and increased thickness. Add screen protector for the extra protection against scratches.

Or use the phone naked, without a case or screen protector.

That VAIO PRO 13 is a great machine! Wish Sony still made laptops, cause they were getting better and better until they stopped.

In regards to your deteriorating phone case, may I recommend this?

u/TriggyTrig · 3 pointsr/lgv20

Like many others have said, get a launcher, LGs stock launcher is OK, but Nova is just simply better.

I have been using a [Spigen Rugged Armor case](Spigen Rugged Armor LG V20 Case with Resilient Shock Absorption and Carbon Fiber Design for LG V20 2016 - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0HW9P4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Qe8zybKKK66H0) since I got this device and it is great. It doesn't take away from the feel of the device, but I am comfortable handing it to my two year old to watch videos or play around with the screen.

I'm not a huge audiophile but I would like to say that from my experience, the headphones from the promo are nothing special, I actually think the Samsung ones that came with my Note 7 sound just as good with the DAC. Hopefully someone can be of help to you here, I'm going to be keeping an eye on the thread for this part as well!

I'm using the Spigen Ultra Hybrid and I'm loving it so far. Loving the transparency the bumper feels very resilient.

I also have a Spigen Neo Hybrid in case I drop my phone and the case becomes damaged.

Since you were looking for a transparent case, I don't recommend the Fosmon DURA-T. The cheapness definitely shows in it's flimsy quality and it actually has this slightly frosted look. Wasn't fully transparent and I ended up returning it.

u/ScottyNuttz · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I love the quality and design of Spigen cases.

I'm looking at the Thin Fit, the Liquid Air Armor or the Ultra Hybrid for the normal Galaxy S8.

u/SpiderDice · 3 pointsr/GalaxyS8

I just received the Liquid Air Armor from Spigen, and I really like the feel of it. It's like that harder rubber, and the back has a nice pattern to it that provides grip. I've tried many different Spigen cases, and for me, the Thin Fit over time developed scratches that wouldn't go away. So that's why I opt'd for the Liquid Air this time.

I like and recommend Spigen cases to everyone.

u/tmpPtr · 3 pointsr/essential

I have these three cases:

TUDIA LULA

TUDIA GLOST

Unbranded TPU

I have defaulted to the TUDIA LULA for everyday use since I prefer slimmer cases. The camera cutout sucks and the case is pretty fragile overall (I'm on my third), but it's really the only super-slim/minimal option.

I use the TPU one from time to time when I am in situations where there is a higher probability of drops. This one is relatively slim and seems to offer pretty good protection. The cut-outs on this one aren't perfect.

The phone feels the largest when I have the TUDIA GLOST on it. I rarely use it, but sometimes put it on for formal occasions.

I love it, its super thin, and it comes with a screen protector! Ive had people come up to me and not even know i had a case on it.

u/crustycuntscab · 2 pointsr/Nexus5

I just got mine fixed today $150 in toronto. Was using a [this] (http://www.amazon.com/NON-SLIP-Spigen-Japanese-Protector-Excellent/dp/B00EV8Y50S/ref=pd_sim_cps_44?ie=UTF8&refRID=0ZHM6S7KY4YQR8WRXTRJ) case. It fell flat on its face on a tile floor and the screen broke.

u/Loliconpajero · 2 pointsr/Nexus5

I bought this one for the couple N5s I ordered from woot.com a few months ago:

https://www.amazon.com/Spigen%C2%AE-Protector-TEXTURE-Premium-Japanese/dp/B00EV8Y50S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478194414&sr=8-1&keywords=spigen+nexus+5

The N5s were supposedly 32GB and new for $150, were actually 16GB and refurbished, all of us who ordered got a $70 discount so, eh. Still a little better than my previous n4.

The only issue there seems to be with the case is a little scuffing around the edges after a few months of snapping on and off. Not that noticeable imo.

u/Archanir · 2 pointsr/lgv20

I had an LG G3 with the Unicorn Beetle case. It was a great case. Felt good and lasted almost 2 years of drops. I haven't seen one made for the V20 yet so I decided to buy the Poetic phone case first and was disappointed with the feel of it. It covered the curves and felt cheap. Ordered the Ringke case and haven't thought twice about it. Phone feels nice in my hand still. The case looks good. And after my phone was dropped from the back of a moving forklift onto asphalt with no damage to phone or case, I can say I would recommend the case.

u/ITSNAIMAD · 2 pointsr/LGG3

I use the supcase which has lasted me the entire time. The case is extremely durable. I have no worries when dropping my phone because of the hard plastic it is made of.

u/ButchTheKitty · 2 pointsr/LGG3

It does, I have THIS ONE. I wanted something tough that would go in and out of pockets rather easily. It fits really snug on the phone and is actually two pieces, it comes with a built in plastic screen protector that is pretty easy to remove if you want a different one or just don't want to use one.

If you have any specific questions about it I'd be happy to answer them.

u/original_pastafarian · 2 pointsr/LGG3

I have this case and it works fairly well. It's a little bulky, but that's kind of expected for this kind of case. Also I find Tasker to be invaluable for all of the automation it does. Also, ~2 amp chargers are needed for the phone (needed may be an overstatement, but it makes charging faster)

u/Chucknorris1975 · 2 pointsr/LGG3

I'm a spray painter by trade and I need something durable and dust resistant so I bought this case . It has a built-in screen protector but it is a bit flimsy for my liking so I also bought a tempered glass screen protector

Edit* I have to add that I cut out the screen protector from the case because it caused issues with the touch screen.

u/killabee444 · 2 pointsr/LGG3

Yup. That's the one I have. Great case. Inexpensive. Provides good protection without being too bulky. The only con is taking the phone out of the case is kind of a pain.
I got a Sedio Surface holster for a Note 3 and my phone fits with the case on it just fine. Here's the link:

Just pick up some NFC tags off Amazon (such as https://www.amazon.com/Black-NFC-Stickers-NTAG213-Tagstand/dp/B00KSR0636)

Then set up a trigger once you scan to connect to the specified WiFi and input the set password. Of course, they'll need to have NFC enabled, not everyone does or even knew it existed on their phone.

u/FlareHeart · 2 pointsr/Android

You can buy them from Amazon, and you can download NFC apps from the Play store to help you program them. Easy peasy.

u/bungalowbill21 · 2 pointsr/tasker

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KSR0636/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_MpdNAbF8M1NF0

is what I bought - works fine with my Galaxy S6 to trigger Tasker tasks.

Also use the Android tools NFC Tools and Trigger (Trigger itself can call a Tasker event).

u/bowserusc · 2 pointsr/ProjectFi

Yup. You can buy essentially blank but unique NFC tags and then use various apps to program the actions taken when they're scanned.

Here are some tags off amazon (there are many, just search nfc):

http://www.amazon.com/Black-NFC-Stickers-NTAG213-Tagstand/dp/B00KSR0636/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452290864&sr=8-1&keywords=nfc

Doing a quick google search I found this guide about what you can do (although I didn't take a careful look at it):

http://trendblog.net/creative-and-useful-ways-to-use-nfc-tags-with-your-smartphone/

u/Geronimodem · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

It is actually very easy to set up. The sleep app for android has the function built in (not sure if it's available for iphone). You need a phone with Near Field Communication (NFC) capability. Any cheap RFID tag should work, I picked up these ones from Amazon. You only need one, but they pretty much all come in packs. In the app settings you go to "CAPTCHA" and select "NFC tag". Then in the CAPTCHA settings there is a giant button at the bottom of the screen that says "Learn". All you have to do is turn on your phone's NFC and set your phone on top of the tag you want to use. Once it learns that tag, put the tag where you want it, set your alarm to not turn off without CAPTCHA enabled and you should be all set.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0176S4DMY

With a case on your phone, you can slip the metal plate that comes with the magnetic mount between the phone and the case. No need to attach it with adhesive.

u/n81acc · 2 pointsr/nexus5x

I really like my Diztronic case. They advertise the "lay on the table" design because of its lip. It's protected my phone's screen many times after my toddler and I have dropped it.

My wife has a Nexus 6P and the Speck case for it is very similar. Here it is for the Nexus 5X.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B015XIIIF2/

u/itchy_feet_ · 2 pointsr/nexus5x

I've been using the Diztronic flexible TPU case for a couple of months now and would probably give it a comfortable 4 out of 5 score. Generally it fits the phone well and does a great job of protecting it too. The buttons are covered and all of the ports etc have their own exclusive openings - not one opening for the fingerprint sensor & camera, which I'm a big fan of. The camera opening also rises up probably around .3mm or so for additional protection of the lens which is awesome.

On the other hand, the fit isn't that great: when I hold the phone to my ear and push it against my head I can generate a click between the case & phone. I rarely talk on the phone so it's not a big deal, but I've noticed it and can't stop noticing it anymore. I also have had it catch on my pocket while pulling it out and it can pop the case off of a corner or two of the phone. Again, not a huge issue, but definitely enough (IMO) to not give it 5 stars if this were an official review.

_____

As for screen protectors, I've been using the tempered glass screen protector from Pleson and it's been great. I used to use non-tempered screen protectors on my old Moto X and found that after around 3 months I wanted to replace them because they got gunked up with not exactly scratches, just a general blurriness in the high traffic areas of the screen like the keyboard. Mostly noticeable when the screen was off, but it wasn't ideal for looking at photos and it kind of just looked like crap.

The Pleson protector has been great for the three months I've had it. I can't see any blurriness building up and have noticed no decrease in the touch screen sensitivity. I did have a pretty good scare last week when my phone face planted onto a flat surface and I picked it up to discover a crack running vertically down the whole screen.... but thankfully it was only the protector. A bit bummed that the protector itself can crack, but pretty damn happy considering the potential alternative. That said, planning to order a replacement of the same within the week!

u/niijonodhg · 2 pointsr/oneplus

It's been all over the official forums for weeks now that Orzly Customer Service have told unhappy customers that they have a new one coming. I got this case http://www.amazon.com/Spigen%C2%AE-Resilient-Ultimate-protection-impacts/dp/B01A7ICWTQ?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00 and it works awesome and I cannot complain about it one bit. It doesn't add tons of bulk, but it has decent grip and can easily slide into a shirt or jeans pocket without issues.

I did try a couple of tempered glass screen protectors but I returned them immediately. I really like Sparin glass protectors on my other tablets/phones but it is absolute garbage on my S7. I'm not sure if there are many out there yet, but there should be some coming up by the end of this month that will fit to the curved edges on the regular S7. My problem was that the glass would overlap the curve and there was 1/4 inch on each side that were not in contact with the screen. That meant whenever I had to pull something from the side it just wouldn't work.

I currently am using the IQ Shield http://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Protector-Coverage-Shield%C2%AE-LiQuidSkin/dp/B019S70NJI?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 LiQuidSkin screen protector and it works great. I would highly recommend getting the "Case Friendly" version as the regular version will pop up on the corners when you put it in a case. Feel wise, it's smooth. With the screen off you can see a bit of an "orange peel" look, but it's not noticeable with the screen on. It is a wet application and I put it on after steaming up my bathroom using the shower to reduce dust in the air and it applied super easy and perfect.

I'll eventually get a good tempered glass screen protector, but this does the job of preventing scratches for now.

Love sipgen cases I have used them on my last 3 phones!

I bought 3 different sipgen cases for my S7E when they had their crazy sale. I have tried the:

u/Rxflection · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS7

I've had this case for a few months now and it's pretty great. Not bulky at all, protects the phone from basic falls, and it's easy to hold.

https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Rugged-Resilient-Absorption-Samsung/dp/B01A7ICWTQ/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1496504753&sr=8-8&keywords=samsung+galaxy+s7+case

u/LordKwik · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS7

I used this one for 6 or 7 months before I dropped it and it cracked the corner of the case. Saved my phone but it wouldn't stay in the case anymore. III prefer this one because it only adds 2mm of thickness (check out the description) and a ton of grip. It's made of plastic, but the texture will fool you.

After that, I had this lying around after a sale. It's just rubbery, super grippy, and still pretty minimal. Plus now I can see my dbrand skin lol. Definitely keeps my palms off the edge though.

Before this phone I didn't like cases either, so I really can't recommend any of those premium cases because they add too much thickness. Spigen is a reputable case maker too, and they have their own metal cases if you're interested. Good luck!

u/Sfkn123 · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS7

This is my preferred slim case:

It is much more grippy than the Turata case, and the thickness is just about the same. You can also run full size screen protectors on this one. The new coral blue color is very good looking.

Searching on reddit led me to the Spigen Neo Hybrid. > What is the durability of the back case? I saw a video of it cracking kind of easy.

It's glass, curved glass at that, so not very durable. It may take some small drops if you're lucky and it doesn't fall flat on the back, but other than that, don't expect much. Definitely buy a case if you're worried about it.

>Any recommendations on cases

I'm fond of my Spigen Liquid Air Armor (S8/S8+). It's slim, but still feels somewhat protective. It's not the most protective thing out there, but to me it provides a good balance of protection and grip while being slim (not a huge fan of cases). It's also cheap at only $10.

>I'm on a note 3 currently so a big upgrade overall. Anything crazy different ui wise or is still the sameish TouchWiz we've all come to love?

I haven't used the Note 3, but from what I've seen of it the UI is drastically different in a good way. They've majority toned down their modifications. It's still nowhere near Stock, and has a nice selection of features, but it's not as intrusive as before. It also looks nice IMO, they've gotten rid of the sickly green they used to use everywhere (although, they've replaced it with mostly white, which I'm fine with but some people aren't into). They also have themes and we have preliminary Substratum support, so it should also be fairly easy to customize to your liking.

>How was it getting used to the odd aspect ratio?

Not hard at all. I enabled full screen mode for most of my apps (the exception being games that don't stretch well), and for the most part they don't have any weird issues stretching to fill the screen. I thought it would be nice being able to see more vertically, but I honestly haven't noticed it much.

The times I do notice it is moving back. Using a 16:9 screen feels really weird, especially since most of the phones using it also have big bezels. Everything looks fat and stubby. It's weird, moving up I didn't notice it much, but moving back down it feels super weird.

I just got a clear protector (case friendly) from IQ Shield, and it's great. I tried a matte protector (full screen coverage) first, but I didn't have the patience to do the edges and ended up going with this one.

The protector itself is still larger than the actual display area and the borders work great with the Spigen Thin Fit case (I got it because of the cutout for a magnetic mount plate) which I'm also using. It's not a tempered glass protector, so you do get that plastic-y feel and small amount of the orange peel look, but that's just a fact of life with the wet-apply, plastic protectors.

If you like a thin case like me, Trudia does have one with a good cutout for the camera. Took it skiing last winter and got some good shots. It's not going to protect from major falls, but I've gotten far fewer small scratches on the screen with it on.

I use the Spigeon Ultra Thin. Like the name suggests, it's thin so it doesn't add to the bulk of the phone and it keeps the phone protected. I've dropped my phone onto concrete a few times from normal standing heights and haven't had an issue. Plus it's cheap.

u/PannaLogic · 1 pointr/Nexus5

I bought a shitload of cases and finally settled on something that won't slip around If you're after the slim stuff.

u/Chronophasia · 1 pointr/Android

Spigen case. Love it. It probably won't protect it from a huge drop, but it gives a little more protection for the camera lens and the texture is nice. Almost like the phone itself. Plus, the buttons are still exposed.

For sure. Screen protector currently installed. Have two cases I can include as well.

If you're looking for hands-down-the-best-all-around-case, then you want Unicorn Beetle. I have it and have never been more happy with a case purchase.

I popped out the built in screen protector and installed my own glass one which the case works fine with.

u/Tmthrow · 1 pointr/LGG3

Do you use the rugged case or the one with the clear back?

...because I love the rugged UB case. Adds little bulk but about the same protection as an Otterbox defender. $19 brand new right now.

Are you looking for a sturdy case with a cover or just a sturdy case? This one looks pretty sturdy. The Otterbox defender is also a pretty heavy duty case

u/aforsberg · 1 pointr/LGG3

In regards to cases: I got this one and ripped out the plastic screen protector in favor of a glass one I got the second I bought the phone. It's been nothing but good to me and is WAY cheaper than most others. Wireless charging still works through it, too.

Got this from Amazon the same day I got my phone, love the case. Its 2 Pieces, the phone kinda locks into the front cover, and the and the back shell goes around that. It's a rubber exterior but not the very resistant rubber like the Defender series from Otterbox so it easily goes in and out of your pocket.

u/FlunkyClassD · 1 pointr/LGG3

There are a couple different cases in this line. I have this one specifically. Very slim and has protected my phone for over two years from multiple drops

u/MixtecoBlue · 1 pointr/LGG3

I bought the supcase unicorn beetle hydrid series and it's pretty slim, and not slippery. My only complaint is that the cutout for the USB is a little sharp and depending on how you hold your phone, may annoy. Nothing a file can't fix.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JW7ATU8?pc_redir=1408711340&robot_redir=1

u/xGetSweatyx · 1 pointr/LGG3

Supcase feels good in the hand. not too slippery thanks to the rubber edges, not too bulky, and still feels solid enough to do its job and for $10 you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal. Plus it looks cool as shit.

u/totallywontstabyou · 1 pointr/LGG3

I'd go with the Supcase Unicorn Beetle.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JW7ATU8/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1420075938&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SY200_QL40

It fits the G3 very tightly, and protects it most where it's most important (the edges). It's a very good quality case despite costing only $10. The inside of the case is flush with the back of the phone, and the cutout for the buttons and camera are very accurate and smooth.

I personally use a Orzly screen protector and this case that I just got last night. I would say a screen protector is hella worth it unless you just can't stand them. The case helps but it's not really needed.

Too bad I ended up dropping my phone and denting the sides a bit right before my case arrived. My screen is fine though.

u/heelhook79 · 1 pointr/oneplus

I've been leaning towards this one:
http://www.amazon.com/TUDIA-Slim-Fit-CYGEN-Protective-OnePlus/dp/B00NJBVHIG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1415066518&sr=8-2&keywords=oneplus+tudia

Does anyone know if the polycarbonate outer layer has that semi-grippy matte on it or not? I like the metal slate contrast with the black.

u/chinatbag · 1 pointr/oneplus

I have this TUDIA Slim-Fit Dual Layer Case. I usually get a case for all my phones and this time, I decided I wanted a dual layer case (the theory is, it absorbs impact and distributes the shock). I also have it paired with a Spartan Glass from XtremeGuard. I don't recommend buying from XtremeGuard - not only did it take them forever to send my order out, my order was also missing stuff (one alcohol swab for 2 glass screen protectors, missing squeegee, missing microfiber cloths) - while it's not a huge deal, since I had a bunch of those items laying around anyway, I'm sure it would be a pain in the ass for someone who doesn't.

The case I have also fits over the tempered glass. My tempered glass is 0.4mm thick vs the Orzly (0.24mm) and the Nillkin (0.3mm).

Just to give you an idea of how well this combination works, I dropped it from chest height the very first day I took my phone to work. It was an accident and I totally thought I shattered my screen, or the protector at the very least, but I picked it up and it was unscathed.

u/The42c0w · 1 pointr/oneplus

tl;dr: It's great. There's no iTunes. It's huge. There's tons of customization, but only if you want. Gestures are super cool. Better speakers. LTE.

I just switched from an iPhone 4 to the OPO around New Years. I, too, had been an iOS user for many years and found my iPhone couldn't keep up with the world around it. You and I have had very similar experiences, so I hope this helps.

Incoming Wall of Text (I hope it's useful!):

First things first: If you use iMessage, you will have a problem with Apple hijacking your friends' text messages with iMessage. Before you turn off your iPhone, turn off the Use iMessage setting. Apple has released a tool that will deregister your phone number from iMessage, though it took several days for it to actually work for me. But it eventually did, and everything's fine now.

You'll have some other things to get used to, as well. For one, there's no more iTunes. That's been the biggest change for me. For better or worse, I'm pretty brainwashed when it comes to using iTunes. Now I add my music as I would to a folder, though there may be an iTunes-like alternative.

If you want to emulate your iOS experience, you can, but you'll need other apps and software. For instance, iMessage can be pretty well emulated with Airdroid. I didn't have Siri on my iPhone, but I think the 4s did. If you're used to Siri, you'll find that Google Now is similar, but not quite the same.

Next, the phone is huge. It dwarfs the iPhone 4. This was my biggest concern when I ordered the OPO and it took me several days to truly feel comfortable holding it with one hand. The phone itself is pretty friendly to hold. I got a case for mine which has added a bit of heft to it and takes away some of the phone's elegance.

If you haven't used Android before, it may take a little time to get used to. And if you get into custom ROMs it can be a bit overwhelming at first, depending on your level of computer knowledge. It's all very cool, though. If you're a tinkerer, like me, you'll have tons of things you can play with. If you're not, the stock setup is great, too.

Widgets are weird to get used to. They totally messed with what I was used to in the iOS world and they've altered the way I set up my screens. I use a different launcher, called Nova Launcher, that lets you resize the widgets a bit more than the default launcher. I'd recommend it to you if you want to keep your screen looking elegant.

As others have said, gestures are great. Double tap to turn the screen on, two finger swipe down to play or pause music, arrows left and right for previous and next song. You can draw a V on the screen to turn on the flashlight, but I turned it off because I found myself doing it by accident.

As for the phone itself, it's phenomenal. It's very snappy, it sports a 1080p screen, and has much better speakers. Finally, LTE is way better than 3G.

Overall, I'm very happy with the OPO.

I plan on pre-ordering the Nexus 6 tonight through AT&T, and hopefully they arrive around the same time. As far as screen protectors go... I would love a glass one. Notice micro-scratches on my screen, then a few more weeks later so I was tempted to get a screen protector however every review was critical and mentioned lack of proper coverage so I got a wallet case but then got the Pthink Protector.

It was my first time putting on the protector and I couldn't get it to settle properly around the bottom logo part and in the process broke both screens provided. Well fuck, I contacted Pthink and they sent me another package with no cost, got it to work this time but later around the logo it got slightly chipped, I will try putting on the last one I have before finding another brand. I took my phone out of the case and repeated placing my hands over the spot in the video...yep! Tried it again several times, It happened everytime. Went out to the car, you guessed it, happened there too. Then into the shower with the BT15...yep, there too! This is a problem. I put the phone back in the case, no issues whatever.

Not as bad as antennagate but still very annoying for those folks out there who have it worse than me. Don't think a software update can fix this.

I have the this spigen case and I'm loving it! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XP87DGC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_b4fgzb16P033Q

u/haruka34 · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

Any recommendations? I've been looking at this one https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Liquid-Galaxy-Durable-Samsung/dp/B06XP87DGC/ but I'm worried the buttons aren't completely covered, it looks weird in the images, like there is some gaps in between. If not that, maybe https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Herringbone-Flexible-Protection-Reinforced/dp/B06XP521V1/ but it looks like the sides are metallic, and I wouldn't really like that.

u/peppeuz · 1 pointr/italysmart

Cover ho preso questa e sono soddisfatto, Spigen è una garanzia.

Vetro temperato non saprei dirti, ho deciso di non mettere nulla allo schermo perché su altri smartphone con display curvo non ho ottenuto grandi risultati.

u/xlaxplaya · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I have a regular S8, and this case. I think when the screen protectors say "case compatible" it just means they're not quite as wide, so putting the case on doesn't peel up the edges.

u/johnsbrats · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

i have many cases as well, and the thinnest case i have with adequate protection is the Spigen liquid air armor. it works well with the Spigen screen protector (non-tempered glass).

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XP87DGC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

the other cases i have are either very thin with minimal protection, or thicker with other options (kickstand, etc).

u/KurisuFuransu · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

Looking at the Air Armor from Spigen after your suggestions. I really like the Orchid Gray, but none of the cases seem to look very good to my eyes when emulating it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XP87DGC/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2SFKRF5TPZMT5

Seems even the heavier-duty ones have reviews where the case didn't protect the phone from cracking. I expect it will still help a bit and mitigate damage from smaller falls, as well as make it easier to hold.

I'm looking forward to how the next-gen S# Active looks as that may be the route I take next time.

u/Chrominumv2 · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I've looked through other threads like this and a lot of people like the Spigen slim fit, I don't have my S8 yet but I am going to buy this one https://www.amazon.com/Maxboost-Perfect-Anti-Slip-Excellent-Protective/dp/B06XS8R8TK , solely because the buttons are covered, I usually slide my fingers to buttons instead of lifting them up and I believe the indentations for the volume buttons would drive my crazy.

u/Molloy1011 · 1 pointr/Android

I bought this Maxboost case for my S8 and I love it. Adds very little in the way of bulk to the phone and, while it's not super grippy, it makes it easier to hold than the naked glass.

u/EggShellBuddyPal · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I use Maxboost case since I have a love for no-branding cases which aren't pricey:

I've dropped mine a good few times in this thing

Check this out at Amazon.com - Maxboost Galaxy S8 Case mSnap [Perfect Fit] [Black] Samsung Galaxy S8 Case Anti-Slip Matte Coating for Excellent Grip Thin Hard Protective PC Snap Case Covers for Samsung Galaxy s8 2017 - MB000097 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XS8R8TK/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_XjfXzb9CGMN12

It grips on really tight so there's no chance the thing can plop out. there are raised lips at the top and bottom so as long as the thing falls on a flat surface the glass doesn't impact at all.

It works fine for me.

It definitely isn't a tank, but I'm pretty confident that as long as the glass itself doesn't make impact nothing will get damaged. the thing has a solid metal frame which is designed to absorb shock.

I personally trust it. I had the same exact case in my S7 and catapulted that thing across the room a few times by accident.

I hate fat cases too.

I have one Neo Hybrid for when i need to be careful with my phone, and right now im trying to find 1 super thin, almost non existent case, for when im at an fancy event, or meeting, or elegant dinner party. This way i can still have the super thinness of the phone, but avoid scratching up the back.

Ive tried the Annceer case, which is very minimal, but just feels and looks dirty, by the design, so im sending this back.

I tried the Elago , this case is also thin, but just way to slippery, like a wet bar of soap. - going back

The Spigen thin air so far is my preferred super thin case of choice. Has enough grip on it too. I just wish the camera cut outs were the same as the Elago or Anncer.

and im currently waiting on the MNML case to ship so i can try that one out

u/xdblockx · 1 pointr/GalaxyS8

I bought it from the following Amazon link:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XXLQ4PG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_sS3vzbJC68YR9

Not sure where to find it on the German site though. Grip is okay, it's not super grippy, but it's grippier than the naked phone in my opinion.

u/dpyn016 · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

Correct. I bought a Spigen one that came the same day. Probably put it on an hour after the skin. Case here

Happy with the case and fairly happy with the skin. It's a little rough on the sides. Feels scratchy and I notice it more on the right since it is very slightly off center. Looks flawless around the camera but you can tell at the power button when viewing in person. First skin though so I'm not too mad.

I was looking for something as close to the Google Silicon case from the OG Pixel since I loved that case! I own both the Incipio DualPro and the Spigen Thin Fit cases.

https://www.amazon.com/Incipio-DualPro-Google-Shock-Absorbing-Protective/dp/B0766FMYBJ?th=1

The Incepio is probably the closest to the Google case, has good grip and seems like it would offer great drop protection. The downside is that it is a bit bulkier than I like.

https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Google-Coated-Surface-Excellent/dp/B07475C1VT/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1520454246&sr=8-6&keywords=pixel+2+xl+spigen

The Spigen is much thinner and has good grip. Obviously this one is going to offer less drop protection. I love it so far, the only thing I have noticed is that the near the charger, the lip of the case is slightly pointy which can be uncomfortable for me since I like to use my pinky to hold up the phone.

u/irqlnotlessorequal · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

Sure edited post to add this

u/mariov · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

I bought the crystal one you mention ans i hated because it doesn't keep the spirit of the phone it makes it bulky and cheap. I bought this one and i love it https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07475C1VT/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/bylebog · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

I have the Spigen Tough Armor, not slim by any means. I love the kick stand and I've used this since my Nexus 6, sturdy af.

I also have the Spigen Thin Fit, again followed from my Nexus 6. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07475C1VT

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I608BJ8/

They have a few varieties of mounts.

For the most part once I tighten it it stays. Though slowly it will come loose. At some point I will probably take some epoxy or something along that line and just permanently fix it in the position on want it. Probably when I break it from tightening or it wears too much to tighten.

It is held on by 3m tape.

I found that to be a good place to keep it out of the sun heat/ fan heat. Spot also cools off ok from AC. Also keeps my phone from blinding me when driving at night.

BIGGEST thing I like about that spot is that I don't have to stretch/reach like if it was up above the radio.

I also find that spot to be good because I can quickly steady my hand on shifter(people going to complain about that)/ find my position so I can quickly request new playlist or try and tap the voice command button if for some reason its not working by voice.

EDIT!:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07475C1VT/

Using a slim case like this that has a depression in it so I don't actually have to stick the metal plate for the magnetic part to my phone or a case.

This one is great. I’ve replaced it with an Apple leather case because I got a deal on it (cousin works for an Apple Store) but this one is great. Showcases the phoneme design with pretty good protection. Won’t break the bank either.

I have the Spigen clear case for my X. I had the same one on my 6S Plus. Extremely durable but I will say that clear cases start to discolor over time so be prepared for that. With that said I love my Spigen clear case. The back is plastic but the bumper sides are rubber. This is it and if you scroll down to the reviews, there are a lot of pictures of it on people's phones.

This is the exact one that I was commenting on when I said that the construction is bad. I have read multiple reviews for this one saying that a scratch appears down by the USB-C port and some saying they just fall apart.

I find the Nexus 6 super slippery on its own. I've always had one of these on my phone and it makes it super grippy without adding much bulk at all.

It looks like it's unavailable, but it was unavailable before and came back when I broke my previous one. Hopefully it comes back.

u/lsf87 · 0 pointsr/GooglePixel

With all the waiting since 4th october I went a bit mad and ordered a bunch of cases!
I got the Ringke Bevel, Spigen Thin Fit and also the Google fabric cement coloured case. Think that's not going to wear well at all as you already identified. Had to stop myself buying more! Very impatient for the phone to just arrive :) it's hard to say if any of the 3 I bought will be any good without the phone to put them on.

u/Admiyer_me · 0 pointsr/iphone

Hi,

I am rocking this one on my iPhone X and have no regrets.

u/hesmir · -1 pointsr/LGG3

This is the case I use. Most people don't realize I have a case on my phone at all and they think it's just part of the design. It's super light and adds very little mass. It also raises on the sides so the screen doesn't impact the ground on falls unless it hits an uneven surface like a rock or something.
