I have always wanted to have a "smart" radio. My parents have always owned various Pioneer, Kenwood, and Sony radio decks, but they always had their cons to them (clunky OS, different type of touch screens that suck, lack of features, very expensive $800-$2000), useless features, etc.). I wanted something that runs Android 6.0+. I thought about using iPads, but I didn't want to waste a bunch of money for something that is going to be used in my car only. I wanted a budget friendly "smart" radio. That is when I found the perfect tablet, the Nexus 7 2013. Cheap, powerful, Android 6, compact, somewhat thin and small, and best part, it fits in a double-din radio deck.

After finding various projects that people have used, I decided to order a bunch of stuff from Amazon (everything was bought with Prime) and see if I could get this to work. It took about 3 weeks to work out all the bugs, but it runs perfect now. I never found anyone that did this mod in a Nissan Pathfinder, so that was difficult going on my own, reading various wiring diagrams and getting power, sound and steering wheel controls to work. After lots of testing each wire, and lots of trial and errors, everything is working how I want it too.

Questions that people have asked me that I can remember on the top of my head:

Q: How do you turn the tablet on and off if the power button is blocked?

A: Easy, with Timur's Kernel, and the USB car charger hooked up to the accessory power, when I turn my key on/start my car, the tablet detects power from the USB, which wakes the screen/powers on. (ELI5: there are 2 power sources in your radio, a constant 12 volt power, and an accessory key power. So when you turn the key to ACC or ON, it gives power to the tablet, but when you turn the key off, it takes away power from the USB port.)

Q: How does it hold up in the wonderful California heat?

A: Shockingly very well. It hasn't given me any issues in ~95F (+35C) degree weather. There was a day where it was 115F (46C) degrees outside, and that is when the tablet finally said NOPE and started locking up and freezing due to the ridiculous heat. After running my AC for a few minutes, it cooled the tablet down to reasonable temperature and ran normally again. When my car is parked, I have a windshield sun shade that helps a ton with keeping the sun off my black/gray dash, and/or microfiber towels over the screen to keep the sun off. If it's super hot, I just take the tablet/radio/air conditioner part out of my car and bring it inside (not that hard to remove).

Q: How do you control the volume?

A: With the JoyCon EXC, it translates either CAN, IBUS, resistive, or digital steering wheel control signals, to USB keyboard signals that the tablet can see. I have the Joycon setup to have Volume UP/DOWN, Screen ON/OFF, PAUSE/PLAY, and PREVIOUS/NEXT. Click here for more information.

Q: How do you listen to the radio/music?

A: Spotify Premium. While I can spend ~$10 on a radio antenna to USB to listen to over-the-air radio stations, I never listen to the radio. When I had my old stock radio, I never listened to the radio part. I always used my 3.5mm jack to plug in my phone for Spotify. Great perk about being a broke college student is getting 50% off Spotify Premium.

Q: Can you/do you watch TV or movies on it while you drive?

A: I can, but I don't. Pay attention to the freakin' road.

Q: How do you get internet on it since it's a WiFi version?

A: I use my Bluetooth hotspot on my phone to get internet for Waze, Google Maps, etc. I can also use the WiFi hotspot, but that uses more power. I can drive from California to Idaho running Waze the whole way and it uses about ~300MB of data.

Q: Can you make phone calls with it?

A: This has been something I have been trying, but have not had success with yet. I use an app called [TabletTalk] (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apdroid.tabtalk&hl=en), but it doesn't push the microphone/sound through the tablet. I gave up on this since I have a Samsung Gear 2 Neo smartwatch that has a microphone/speaker on it. Some day I will explore with this more.

Q: How do you power your speakers if you removed the radio?

A: I lucked out big time with this issue because my Nissan Pathfinder has the Bose System built in. That means that there's an amplifier already installed that powers the speakers. So the tablet sends the sound to the Behringer UCA202 DAC, that then converts to a 3.5mm headphone jack that then splits into the Left Front/Rear, Right Front/Rear, and dual subwoofer channels that go to the car wiring harness that then goes to the amp. This saves me hundreds of dollars. For vehicles without a stock amplifier that rely on the radio for power, that is when you will need to buy an amplifier to power the speakers. My 12 inch subwoofer also plugs into the DAC and works perfectly.

Q: I see the reverse camera, how did you get that to work with the tablet? How does the tablet know when you are in reverse?

A: There were 2 ways to get this to work, one way is by video detection, or the other way is by the JoyCon EXC. I chose to do the video detection way because it was simpler and waiting about one second for the app to open was fine with me. I use an app called EasyCap viewer.

Q: Why is there paper over the JoyCon, EasyCap, USB charger etc.?

A: The plastic pieces over the EasyCap and USB charger were bulky/broken. The JoyCon didn't come with a cover. Paper was the easiest/closest thing I had at the moment. If only I had a 3D printer. Someday..

Q: Why is the mic in the vent and not somewhere else? Doesn't the wind from the HVAC cause problems?

A: It was a last-second add-on and just put it in there without having to rewire the harness. I also didn't know where to move it that made it look "stock". I've gotten some great opinions on where to move it! Thanks for those!

I'll add more common questions here when I think of them.

Just a word of warning - I implemented this in my car, and ran into a few hurdles:

  1. Audio output was too quiet, haf to crank my stereo to 100%. Installed a USB soundcard ( https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-External-Adapter-Windows-AU-MMSA/dp/B00IRVQ0F8 ) to correct the issue.
  2. Calling support is limited! Just launches speakerphone on your phone, no bluetooth audio support for calling.
  3. I had trouble finding a power adapter that wouldn't trigger the lightning bolt (bad power indicator) in the upper right of my screen when, especially since the phone pulls power through the Pi. Oddly this one worked fine: https://www.amazon.com/AUKEY-Charger-Charge-Samsung-Galaxy/dp/B01KZHKF4I
  4. This issue is probably limited to my exact car, or my model of car ( 2010 Hyundai Elantra Blue), but: after connecting the setup, within 5 minutes a light would fire in my dash indicating one of my TPMS sensors had disconnecting. Removing the Pi setup would clear the light within 5 minutes. The sensors operate on 315 mhz; no idea how the Pi setup could be interfereing ( tried a Pi2, Pi3, and Pi3b+ w/ Official 7" LCD ). I am probably the only person on earth who will experience this, but figured I'd report anyways.
  5. Heavy Waze + Spotify user here; the entire setup would shit the bed if there was too much going on in Waze (traffic, cops, accidents would trigger massive audio tearing). Other users report similar experience on this front.
Overall, cool project, but I retired my setup!

2A 5V output. Lots of charge.

u/xeneral · 11 pointsr/Nexus6P

Buy this for your long car ride.

It has single USB-C port and two USB-A ports. Charger's total output is 49.5W so no voltage sag will be experienced. Although it can only charge a 2015 Macbook at only 19.5W instead of 29W which the wall charger can produce.

u/spanky34 · 9 pointsr/funny

Got to get a good one that's labeled with 2A output. I got one that's dual and does 2.4A on one and 2A on the other. Can charge my Nexus 5 in just over an hour from dead. It was only $13 bucks and came on Amazon prime.

This is what I have It caused me no issues over a year of use on both Pixel 1 and Nexus 5X.

I've since upgraded to a car that has Android auto so I only keep it as a backup charger if someone else needs to charge quickly. So I couldn't tell you about its performance with the Pixel 2, but it should be very similar if not identical to the Pixel 1 experience.

This one is the most consistent, and works as advertised.

Have done hours of testing now.

Max amps recorded to a 6P has been 2880mAh. So far this has been the best of the chargers I've tested for the Type-C phones.

I'm was originally concerned with its output consistency, but it does charge at rates comparable to the stock charger and throttles appropriately.

The cable itself is very thin compared to the official cable, but doesn't feel poorly made.

The device itself is very nice, with chamfered edges, and a chrome bevel. There is a tiny white LED as well. It's not annoying.

This definitely beats out the "red chargers", even the Vinsic that Benson reviewed. I have tested that one as well and it cannot handle two devices, nor can it match this chargers consistency.

I use this for my MBP, works great for charging but not while using. 45w.

u/g_throww · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

There's good reason to use the official dock. That said, if you're willing to risk it a little, the Insignia dock has had good reviews and is far cheaper. There have been 0 reported cases of it bricking a Switch.

For plugging in the Switch, any car charger with at least 39W output over USB-PD should work for docked mode. I'd recommend getting a USB-IF charger, since you're pretty much guaranteed that it's safe. Here's a good option: https://www.amazon.com/Nekteck-Certified-Charger-Delivery-Included/dp/B075WQQG7C

Note that I haven't actually tried the above charger, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

u/Berzerker7 · 8 pointsr/GooglePixel

"USB-PD" is a USB spec for fast charging, Power Delivery.

The Pixel 2 (XL) support up to 18W charging over USB-PD, 9V/2A, but also support regular USB-C charging at 15W, 5V/3A.

27W USB-PD charging, 9V/3A, is not supported on the Pixel 2/XL.

The 15W Belkin charger is a little expensive for what it is. I'd get this over it, it's also USB-IF certified, and supports 5V/3A charging over USB-C.

u/AgentScreech · 7 pointsr/infiniti

Here's the best way to handle this. I'm making assumptions that you have a smartphone and the RCA jacks in your car's armrest.

Get the following.

  • a wired to bluetooth transmitter
  • a usb car charge port
  • 3.5mm to rca jack cable (as short as possible)
  • a cd player mount for your phone

Take the 3.5->RCA cord and plug the RCA ends into the aux jack inside the armrest. Put the USB charger in the 12v socket that's also in the armrest. Take the bluetooth transmitter plug in the power (with the supplied micro USB to normal USB cord) and plug in the 3.5 end of the RCA cord to the jack on the transmitter.

Once the car is on and the transmitter is powered up, pair your phone to the transmitter per the instructions that came with it. After its paired, put all the wires and the transmitter in the armrest and forget about it. You'll never have to deal with it again unless something goes wrong.

Now take the CD player car mount, and turn it so it's horizontal. Put your phone in it and adjust the sides to make sure it doesn't slide out. Switch your car audio system to AUX and leave it there. The only downside is you can't control the audio from the steering wheel. The only thing you can do is adjust the volume.

Now you have an always updated nav system that has guidance and the ability to listen to all your music via the car stereo. I wouldn't try any other BT transmitter. It's the key to the whole deal and I know that one works. The rest of the stuff is universal and pretty generic. You may have some/most of them already. You can really shop around for the USB charger, RCA cable and CD player mount and get the cost down more. The whole setup should be around $75 or less.

This is by far the most effective, economical way to get what you want. There isn't really a way to update or modernize the stock equipment outside of buying a new car. I'm pretty sure that's by design.
u/Captain_Ho_Lee_Fuk · 6 pointsr/iphone

They make them, but not for big phones. Been looking for one. Probably going to go with a windshield one again, I used an older version when I had a Note and it worked great. Still use it with my 6+ and just plug the phone in to charge.

u/Imlulse · 4 pointsr/GooglePixel

I swore off USB-C PD car chargers for a long time, they were largely a hot mess back around the time of the OG Pixel launch and that phone (and the P2) could charge at a decent 10-12W rate off old Type A chargers anyway (not the P3 tho). I even bought a couple for Nathan K to test with his fancy gear and they were colossal failures.

There were a couple decent ones but mostly single port and/or fixed cable ones... I recall the Verizon branded one actually being solid (it was made by a pretty large OEM of this stuff with a good rep, I forget the name, starts with an X I think). I mean, heck, Belkin had to recall a car charger that they were selling in Google's own store and it was months before they replaced it.

Anyway, just a word of warning, I'd avoid anything with iffy reviews or that has been out too long... Something USB-IF certified or with a decent warranty (like Belkin's) at least means it's been looked over or has someone standing behind it. Having said that, this 45W Nekteck USB-C PD + Type A charger is USB-IF certified and has been getting good word of mouth reports.

They also have this smaller one that will be just as fast for the purpose of charging a phone (which won't draw over 18W), but the Type A port is only good for 5W so if you need to charge something fast off that port you might as well pay a couple bucks more for the other one. If you need to charge two USB PD capable phones there's this Scosche.

It should be able to charge two phones at full speed (18W each), not USB-IF certified AFAIK but Nathan K reviewed and okayed their dual 18W AC charger, and Scosche has been making pretty solid car chargers for a long time... Pricier than Nekteck's tho. Their dual USB-C PD home AC charger is worth a look too, even tho it's pricier still, as that's a rarity.

Google sold a 21.5W non-PD one that basically supplied 15W & 7.5W with load balancing for a while, but dual PD chargers have been hard to come by otherwise. The smaller Scosche is probably not worth it vs the smaller Necktek or even the larger one since it's priced as high as the latter and not rated for any more than the former.

Edit: There's a version of the Necktek with a built in cable too, but being able to replace it seems like the better long term bet IMO, plus allows you to go as long or as short as you need.

I see what you're bringing in other replies. And I don't have recommendations for those things.

But what I don't see is anything about your work tools. I would imagine that robot installation and servicing would require a hardware toolkit, an electronics toolkit, and a computing toolkit.

My job is highly technical and requires a number of computing devices that have to be charged at all times. So what I use and recommend there is as follows:

u/karn_evil · 3 pointsr/flashlight

Yes, it can be removed and used in hand if you want to. I have the flashlight version of that light and It has held up well over the past year.

I don't think I've seen a 12v charger, but there probably is something out there. You could always get the eneloop charger with a usb cable pack and pick up one of those 12v to USB adapters.

u/VoyeurOfBliss · 3 pointsr/sexover30

IMO, GoPro is not a good choice for this. Cell phones are a better choice if you have a way to mount it or prop it up somewhere. A cell phone will capture amazing audio as long as you can get it close. If you can use more than one camera (cell phone if needed) at a time, stitching and editing the video together can be very useful. Put them in airplane mode to avoid accidental upload, pull the video off of them via USB cable, and delete original before turning off airplane mode. I highly recommend the camera and lens I have below, because they are so useful outside of the bedroom for family or activity stuff. Kind of pricey.

I use three devices at the same time: cell phone, video camera, and microphone. Here is a few links from a recent comment:

>Her view is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM5 running a Sigma 350963 60mm F2.8 DN mounted to a GFM MK-1 tripod behind the bed.

>His view, seen in the rest of the gifs (NSFW!), is on a microphone stand held in place by bags of rock salt inside custom bags, and the other end is adorned with a GPS bicycle mount, which uses the Gamin ball diameter that I've standardized on for over ten years. On the ball is a iOttie phone dock, and clipped in the mount is a Galaxy S7 International running in pro video mode.

u/Einhorc · 3 pointsr/GalaxyNote8

I have also been wondering this. Currently on my note 3 I use the Spigen magnetic mount and enjoy not having to fight with a mount.

Now I have my note 8 I'm looking forward to using wireless and I know that the magnetic plate will interfere with the charge process. I came across this iOttie however it doesn't support fast charge and its £65 from amazon which is a lot more than I'd be willing to pay. I discovered they have this model coming soon, I think we are both looking for a similar solution. The only other thing that slightly annoys me is that they both use micro USB rather than type C.

u/geoff5093 · 3 pointsr/techsupport

I would not get those cheap no name eBay chargers. Get something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerDrive-Samsung-Motorola/dp/B014IBIMEW/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1485356311&sr=8-8&keywords=micro+usb+car+charger

Generally though with newer phones, if it's Android they either support QuickCharge or USB C Rapid Charging. You could use the above charger, but it wouldn't charge them at their fastest possible rates.

u/wanderingbilby · 3 pointsr/raspberry_pi

If you want something truly good quality, Meanwell is the place to be. the PSD-30 would give you 5V@5A from 9 - 15VDC. It's adjustable up to 5.5VDC so you can compensate for wiring voltage losses if necessary. $15 from Mouser, roll your own case and wiring.

As far as pre-built USB power supplies, Anker is probably the best.

Many usb-c car chargers have a usb-a port, so presumably you could use the c cable for the pixel and plug a lightening cable into the a port.

For example, https://www.amazon.com/charger-Nekteck-Charger-Adapter-Integrated/dp/B0172QQNBY

Lightening quick charge could be a problem with this.

u/ScottTenorman54 · 3 pointsr/GooglePixel

From what I understand, it is indeed your port. https://www.howtogeek.com/309766/want-fast-charging-dont-use-your-cars-usb-ports/

A 12 volt socket to USB-A cable will charge your phone normally, and if you want to rapid charge, go with a 12 volt to USB-C cable like this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0172QQNBY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_hkxhAbKVY1HF8

Hope that helps, I had the same problem coming from iPhone.

u/codyism · 3 pointsr/GooglePixel

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0172QQNBY/ is what I bought. It is a -1 on the list but it is also Benson's personal unit. I figure if he rocks it I should be good. There are no standout car chargers right now.

u/TsundereBolt · 3 pointsr/Gunpla

Your panel lining looks really great, but if you want something that provides great results and is actually much easier, grab some Tamiya panel liner. It's pre-thinned enamel paint that you just tap on the panel line and watch it run down the line by itself. Then you just let it dry for about 10-15 minutes and rub away any excess with a q-tip and some lighter fluid. Makes panel lining much less of a chore.

Welcome to the community!

Edit: Forgot about top coating, I use matte top coats to give it a more realistic look. I apply it over both painted and unpainted kits, as it dulls the shine on unpainted kits as well as protects paint/decals. I've used several different brands at this point, and they all do about the same. Testors dullcote, Tamiya TS-80, and Mr Top coat all work well.

u/Unifos · 3 pointsr/whatisthisthing

I ordered some Tamiya Panel Line Accent Color - Black and this came with it. Can someone help me identify the Japanese words and what it is? Thank you. Here is amazon link to show what I ordered. I ordered off of ebay and the seller put this in next to the thank you note. The thank you note did not say what it was.

u/bigdaddycruiser · 3 pointsr/Gunpla

Tamiya Panel Line Accent is all you'll ever need

And some mineral spirits or lighter fluid for clean up :P

u/brycedriesenga · 3 pointsr/nexus5x

Just got a 5X myself a week or so ago.

For car chargers, I really like this one by AUKEY. Pretty good all-rounder that has USB-C and can charge your other devices as well.

I also picked up this cable combo by Anker which includes a USB-C to USB-C 2.0 and a USB-C to USB-A 3.0.

With the stock charger and the aforementioned items, I feel like I'm pretty set for charging wherever/whenever I need to.

Also, I picked up [these tempered glass screen protectors] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D9EMSGC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) which are a great price and go on very well. I even messed up installation with two tries (got a speck of dust under the second one still) and the company is sending me another pack to try again for free!

u/sininspira · 3 pointsr/GooglePixel

Piggybacking off this comment to make a recommendation, I've used this charger for about a year (had a 6P before my Pixel) and it charges rapidly with a full 5V/3A on the USB C port.

u/CNUSubie07 · 3 pointsr/Nexus6P

This is the car charger I picked up: http://amzn.com/B018TGGH4E

5v/3amp, prime shipping, and only $25. Also has some USB-A ports in case someone else needs to use it in the car and doesn't have USB-C.

u/Antitech73 · 3 pointsr/lgg6

I have this one and it works a treat. Love Anker!

u/jonjennings · 3 pointsr/GooglePixel

It's always best to avoid the words "quick charge" because they're likely to cause confusion with Qualcomm's Quick Charge technology, which none of the Pixel phones support.

Any charger that talks about "Quick Charge" is selling you a feature that your phone can't use - eg this one https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Charge-PowerDrive-PowerIQ/dp/B01K9MQ8WW is a waste of money for a Pixel phone.

Similarly, you could argue that this one https://www.amazon.com/Charger-Anker-PowerDrive-Delivery-MacBook/dp/B07H4M4N5V is a bit overkill for a 5.0" Pixel 1. We're in the right technology field now... this charger features USB-PD and the phone features USB-PD as well. However because that specific Pixel only supports 5V charging you're only going to get a little over 2A/5V out of it, even if you use a USB-C cable.

A good non-USB-PD car charger like https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-Ultra-Compact-PowerDrive-Technology/dp/B01MY9ZGHH will charge just about as fast at a cheaper price point.

Having said all that...

I just ran a couple of tests with a 5.0" Pixel 1 and a 5.5" Pixel 3, a USB-C power meter and a variety of chargers lol.

Pixel 1 draws up to 2.0A/5V from standard USB chargers. Draws up to 2.8A/5V (but oddly dropped down to a claimed 1.2A although the phone still said "charging rapidly" so I'm not sure who to believe) from a high-power USB-PD charger

Pixel 3 draws only 1.5A/5.0V from standard USB chargers (so oddly LESS than the Pixel 1 would) in my tests today. However it'll draw 2.0A/9V from a USB-PD charger.

In short: a USB-PD charger will give you a little more juice but not very much on a 5.0" Pixel 1, a much bigger difference on phones that support 9V USB-PD. Avoid anything that says "Quick Charge"

u/willvotetrumpagain · 3 pointsr/iphone

You change the settings so that the power button shuts off the screen but does not lock the device.

And buy a better car charger, they're only $20.

I wanted to charge my Yoga 920 in my car, so I bought this and it charges fine. So third party chargers are a go, at least the one I bought works.

I pulled the WiFi NIC out and replaced it with the Intel Wireless-AC 9260. Works great. Be sure to download the driver first before replacing the card... or just use another computer to download them and transfer it with a USB drive.

To add: I have no idea if swapping wifi cards voids your warranty. If you find out, please let me know.

u/BluKhaos · 3 pointsr/GooglePixel

I was recommended this charger when my last one caused the screen on my first Pixel 2 to short out and not work. Works as intended and even allows for rapid charging as well as an additional USB plugin.

u/ddaug4uf · 3 pointsr/amazonecho

I use the Roav Viva and I’ve been pretty happy with the results. I have a two seater convertible only two options for which charging port to put it in but it’s pretty responsive.
Initially it was pretty much just useful for Music but it’s getting much better at navigation. It works perfect if you use an address and most of the time if you say Get Directions to [Business Name], it will find the right place. It also can use Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze.
Audio books works well and it seems to integrate with either your car’s Bluetooth or via your phone either way.

u/DelValleD · 3 pointsr/GooglePixel

Anker and Aukey are the best in the business. This is the one I have and works flawlessly. AUKEY USB C PD Car Charger, 27W... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079MWXSS8?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

But just like any PD chargers, it's the USBC port that outputs PD.

u/mr_sectionchief · 3 pointsr/GooglePixel

Personally, it's been okay--it only gets in the way when I use the phone in a car without Bluetooth connectivity.

Keep in mind though, if you want to charge the phone at the same time, you'll need a dongle (like the Moshi one) as well as a car charger with PD like this Anker one). That's my current setup and it works well--I get fast charging instead of a trickle charge/slow drain and the audio works fine.

u/bugabago · 2 pointsr/Nexus7

Here's the one I have. I power my in-dash tablet and plug my phone into the other port. I've taken long road trips with navigation running the whole time without any issues.

1.) These postcards are mostly grey. And black and white. And they are also good for grey days. :)

2.) This is The Dead Weather's debut album. A good one. (jack white <3 <3 <3)

3.) As you will see on the track listing, the eponymous The White Stripes album has TWO songs on it that relate to food: "Sugar Never Tasted So Good" and "One More Cup of Coffee". Plus, the cover has the traditional swirly mints of The White Stripes. (Also, this one reminded me that I don't have Neutral Milk Hotel's first album on my list! So thanks for that.)

4.) The postcard books are for my friends. I send postcards to them. This TOTALLY counts. Especially the David Choe ones since David Choe is amazing. And I know that my friends like his art.

5.) If there is ANY chance that you have not read Sabriel, you need too. Really, really, really.

6.) This was on my list, but was removed after the lovely /u/scrumtrelescent sent it to me! And heads are definitely not related to hair, because heads can be bald. And the biggest annoyance about these things is that they sometimes get stuck in your hair. So it's really an advantage if you have no hair. :)

7.) This postcard book is actually titled "Wicked Witches and Creepy Cats", so there are lots of cats in it. If you look inside, you will see a cat dancing with an owl, an awesome dress covered in cat faces, and a very cute cat in a pumpkin. Also some truly scary cartoonish cats. Avoid the one in the bowtie. shudder

8.) I really don't need another dress, but this one is so cute!

9.) So...I don't have movies on my list that I have seen before. I actually only have this one. BUT. I can save this. This is a Studio Ghibli film. And Studio Ghibli films are awesome. (Spirited Away is my favorite movie <3) So...my argument is, everyone should watch every Studio Ghibli movie at least once in their life because they're so great. Which is why I want it! :)

10.) When zombies attack, it is important to be able to run quickly. No one could run faster than someone wearing SUPERMAN SNEAKERS!! I mean, he's faster than a speeding bullet!

11.) My biggest current goal is to make new friends, since I'm moving to a new city (eek! yay!). Board games always help with friends! This would definitely help me out.

12.) I'm going to interpret "pesky Add-On items" as anything that a company encourages you to purchase after an initial purchase of an item. Instead of what you really meant. So you should probably just ignore this one. BUT. An expansion to Munchkin would be so fun! Even if you don't really need it at all... <3

13.) I wouldn't call this my dream item, but it is the most expensive item on my list. This NES game for a number of reasons. First, it's a GREAT game. Second, I think it's funny having an amazingly expensive item on my list. Thirdly, what if someone actually bought me the "new" one? That would be Amazing.

14.) (I love the edit-I always just knew what size a breadbox was from playing 20 questions with my mom...) So. I don't really have large items on this list so much. BUT. [Fabric] (http://www.amazon.com/Aviary-Sparrows-Cavern-Black-Fabric/dp/B004VNVE7A/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=NO029QAH2C2U&coliid=IEEZTV09MV12V), while perhaps being able to fold up into something smaller than a bread box, could also wrap around the bread box. This must count for something. It's already 42" across, so that's wider than a bread box...Plus, what if you just purchased 100 yards of it? Then it wouldn't fit inside...

15.) My dad has one of these and it is so useful. I want one too! I'm pretty sure it's smaller than a golfball. It's possible that it's longer than one, but if you smushed it into little pieces, the total volume would definitely be less than that of a golfball. :P

16.) If I ordered this now, it would be brand new when I recieved it in September, and new books just smell SO GOOD!

17.) I love Rio Grande games, so I really want to try Power Grid. Plus, if you worked at an electrical company, your boss might even think you were just hard at work on some new electrical line, soooo it's definitely safe for work. (hehehe)

18.) Since I'm starting grad school this year in a new city, far from my undergrad friends, I need chocolate to help me when I'm sad and lonely! (Another good way to make friends, too!)

19.) This summer, the only thing I've been doing is making things. I really want to get into making hats (for some reason), so I've been rather obsessed with finding sinamay-it would be so useful to have the forms already made too...

20.) Purchasing this item gives you TWELVE Toblerone bars (you get two of the beautiful 6-pack boxes that you see pictured. That's ELEVEN MORE than usual!!! I can't explain the amazingness of this any better.

BONUS ITEMS

Anything that has my real name on it: Hm. Will have to do more research. :)

Where would you like the mount? Suction cupped to the windshield? Clipped in the vent? Adhered to the dashboard? I personally like phone mounts that adhere to the dashboard. Is your dashboard hard plastic or is it soft vinyl? If it is vinyl, you would need a vent or windshield mount.

I used the old version of this mount for many years. It didn't have wireless charging at the time. It was a solid, robust mount. It didn't feel cheap and flimsy like most mounts. I recommend it.

u/AlexusN · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS7

You can't use both - you either use that metal plate on the back OR the wireless charging. Metal completely blocks the electromagnetic field that current version of wireless charging uses.

If you really want to use the phone mounted somewhere on dashboard (which I personally never do) - you can try something like this instead of magnetic mounts:
https://www.amazon.com/iOttie-HLCRIO132-Wireless-Standard-Charger/dp/B00UXS7958

Or, like you said, just give up on wireless charging altogether.

u/namtaru_x · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS7

This is what I use, and it works great.

https://www.amazon.com/iOttie-HLCRIO132-Wireless-Standard-Charger/dp/B00UXS7958

Only caveats are if it's hot outside the phone can get SUPER hot. Generally I don't have any issues, but on 80*F+ days I usually unplug the charger.

Also, I don't expect the wireless charging to charge fast, so when I actually need fast charging I just move the cable from the dock to the phone.

These are issues with any wireless chargers, not just the iOttie.

u/tigerscomeatnight · 2 pointsr/galaxynote4

It's a little expensive, but I got this one, just watch out using the provided extra "pad", it's glue and will stay on permanently, I use just the suction cup and it only falls off once or twice a year when the temperature is over 90F.

u/mattbuford · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS7

I have this and am reasonably happy with it:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UXS7958

It isn't magnetic, but it is quick and easy to insert and remove. To put the phone, you simply push it against the back and the jaws snap shut. To remove it, you press on the right and left side bars sticking out, and that pushes the jaws open, which then lock.

With music playing via bluetooth and the screen on displaying Google Maps for navigation, charging is kind of a break-even thing. During the day, when auto-brightness is cranking the screen up, I slowly lose charge (like 1% per hour). At night, when the screen dims and Maps goes into night mode, I gain a few percent per hour.

Occasionally, when I leave my car in direct sun for long periods of time, I come back to find the suction has released and have to re-attach it, but this isn't a big deal.

It looks like the price has gone up. I paid $36 for it in August 2016.

u/S-Aint · 2 pointsr/GalaxyS6

Yep, I bought one for the wife's van and liked it so much I decided to buy one for my car. We both have the S6. Her's with a case and mine naked and the wireless charger works perfectly on both phones!

u/data_wrangler · 2 pointsr/nexus6

I use this qi charger in my car with the N6. It's more than sufficient to keep the phone running maps and music/podcasts without losing charge. Admittedly, if I get into the car with low battery it won't pick up much charge if I'm using it. It'll charge if I turn the screen off, so at least there's that.

For convenience factor, though, I love it. Just press the phone into the dock and it's charging and right in my eyeline while driving. When ready to get out just squeeze the release and it pops into my hand.

Not OP, but this is the one I use in my car for my Nexus 6. Only problem with it was I had to use the micro USB to cigarette lighter cable that came with it and it's a little short. I bought one of these to make up the difference.

u/meathole · 2 pointsr/MotoG

That's just a regular USB-A port, meaning it's only going to output 550ma MAX. If you're doing anything with your phone it's going to use more power than it's being given. This isn't a problem with your phone or the USB port, this is just how this port was designed. It is literally impossible to request pore power from that port so don't try any sketchy hacks. Just get a cigarette lighter 12v to USB adapter, something like this http://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerDrive-Charger-Samsung-Motorola/dp/B014IBIMEW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1450195210&sr=8-3&keywords=anker+car

Here's the 3A USB-C one I use. Works great. Benson Leung has mentioned it in his blog.

u/TwoOhEight · 2 pointsr/GooglePixel

I bought this Anker before I found this subreddit and the spreadsheet. It works fine but does not rapid charge, I don't think it's USB-PD.

I then bought this Nekteck after looking at the spreadsheet just after people said to not buy the Belkin. It does rapid charge but according the notes on the spreadsheet does not support USB-PD. It's kind of a no name brand though and I don't really trust it long term to be honest.

I just bought this other Anker which should arrive tomorrow so we'll see how well it compares.

Either way I'm going to end up selling 2 chargers on Craigslist very soon. Maybe I'll just cave and sell all 3 and drop $100 on this Kanex or $140 on this MOS Go battery bank and hope no news comes out about how shit it is.

u/rockcanada · 2 pointsr/GooglePixel

Why would you spend $15 on a $800 phone. So many videos of cheap knock off and even the big names don't follow spec including Anker. Don't be cheap and just buy a Google charger.

Honestly battery problems really caused me a lot of stress so if you're anything like that, just spend $50 and get it replaced at a phone repair store. Then it won't matter about getting a charger. If your battery is randomly dying, then chargers are just a waste of money.

Can someone recommend a car charger for me? I'm seeing conflicting views on quick charging (which would be a plus). Does it have to have a usb c port? Looking at these two right now:

u/Nixflyn · 2 pointsr/PoliticalDiscussion

There are actually a ton of good type C car chargers out there, or at least a hardwired type C cable with an additional type A plug for everything else. You won't get rapid charging using type A to C.

I have this one, but there are a ton of options.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0172QQNBY/ref=mp_s_a_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1481651916&sr=8-17&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=Type+C+car+charger&dpPl=1&dpID=411X6qKZ7ZL&ref=plSrch

As for type C wall chargers, a bunch exist too. I use a tronsmart wall charger with both a type C and type A output. They're about $15.

This marker is probably all you will need for a while, as long as you are gentle with the tip.

If you have a hobby shop nearby, it might be easier (and probably cheaper) than Amazon. The grey marker brings out panel lines and shadows best on white, grey, and lighter blue/green colors. All you need to clean up the lines is a Q-tip and a tiny amount of butane/lighter fluid.

However, once you get into the hobby more and are building more (1-3 models per month, in my estimate), you may want to invest in a pre-mixed set of panel washes for use on different colors.

u/JMHGunpla · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

Crossbone was actually my second build when I started gunpla last year so I didn't do panel lining. Just a straight build but I always wanted to paint it because I despised the Pearl look.

As for repainting it I used Tamiya Fine Prime spray and that adhered very well. Stuck to airbrushing the brown, crimson and black and hand painted the metallics since they weren't getting along with my airbrush during trial runs.

I use these for my panel lining.

>I can still see some nub marks, I think this is just cause I was lazy and didn't sand after removing the nub...

>1. I tried to do pencil shading but it doesn't look very good to me. Is it too light? I'm planning on going back over it again tonight. I'm using HB lead that I crush and a q-tip to apply. Would a beauty blender be better for applying it? The q-tip can be hard to control at times but I may just need more practice.

>2. I plan on using a clear matte top coat after I'm done shading/weathering before I put the decals on. Will matte be ok or should I use gloss? The final look I want is for it to be matte but I've read on here that decals adhere better to a glossy surface?

>3. After I spray the matte top coat will that degrade/reduce my shading? Basically, should I shade darker to compensate for top coat?

>4. If I spray a matte topcoat now then shade more and apply another matte topcoat will that have any difference visually compared to just shading darker now and applying one topcoat?

  1. You should grab a Gundam Marker or even a panel line wash like https://www.amazon.com/TAMIYA-Panel-Accent-Color-colors/dp/B01871I5HS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1498675914&sr=8-2&keywords=tamiya+panel+line or https://www.amazon.com/Vallejo-Dark-Grey-Wash-35ml/dp/B00AOL8GEC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1498675939&sr=8-4&keywords=vallejo+wash.

  2. You should clear coat-details/decals-matte coat. Decals adhere best to smooth surfaces, many gloss coat before decals to help reduce "silvering"

  3. Typically I would say not. There may be a slight fading, but that is mostly due to matte changing how light reflects.

  4. I wouldn't want to do detail work on a matte finish, a smooth finish is easier for clean up and control. If anything you could detail, gloss, and then matte, clear coats (at least Future) seem to make colors a bit darker.
u/jdougie9115 · 2 pointsr/Gunpla

I've heard with gundam markers you can (or should) be able to just rub the excess off with your thumb, assuming its on bare plastic or on top of a gloss coat. Sharpies, seem like they would be more worrisome to me, just because I know they're "permanent". my overall recommendation is Tamiya Panel Line Accents. They're enamel but on a good gloss coat they flow through everything, pretty cheap too you can get all 4 colors here..

It is going to heat up a bit while charging with any version of QC. QC raises the voltage with the amperage to let your phone charge faster. Whether it uses 5, 9, or 12 volts is determined by your phone's specs and what the charger can output.

It doesn't get too hot to pick it up. It gets noticeably warm with internal temperatures reaching around 32-35C or so. Idle temperature, for comparison, is around 28C. When you pick it up, it will feel kind of warm, but not hot. Your phone can take much higher temperatures than what it experiences during charging, so you're not causing any damage.

I have personally used all of the following Benson approved USB type-C items.

Interesting, because I spend an hour in the car in the morning and another in the afternoon, my phone is usually charged to 100% when I get home. I've always left my phone unplugged at night going back to my Nexus One and even before that although with removable batteries, it wasn't so much of an issue. When I wake up now, I'm at at least 60%. 100% in the car on USB-C PD rapid charger by the time I get to my client that day. That USB-C charger will also charge my MacBook Pro if needed although slowly, when suspended. It will slow the drain in the MBP if I'm using it.

I recommend the Roav Viva by Anker. Anker has sales quite often on their products and they had this for $39.99 last week ($37.99 if you signed up for their email special). I have been using my for a week, sometimes it has trouble hearing me say "Alexa", only because of location of my car's charger, but you can touch the mic button on it for you to say your alexa commands. No issues with playback or connectivy through my aux in connection. For GPS navigation you can set Google Maps, Waze, or apple maps for default service. Double reply so you get a notification about this.

Using an old car charger (2.4A) with a proper USB-A -> USB-C 3.0 cable (this one https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A6F3WHG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) charged my phone from 60% to 100% in roughly 1 hour. The phone never said "charging rapidly" either, so you're not getting Power Delivery with that. I am buying a proper USB-C car charger later this week, I can DM you with an update on that.

Edit: Adding this as well in case someone else is looking for this info, but this what I dm'd OP:

Alright so I bought this cable: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A6G0CTQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and this car charger https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B079MWXSS8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Anker also offers a lower cost PD charger where the PD port maxes out at 18W vs the 30W of the one your cited, which should be fine for OP if the only thing he'll be charging is his phone. I use PowerGen's 4.2A/20W Dual USB charger. One of the ports is intended exclusively for Apple devices, but it's $10, and the Android-compatible port charges very efficiently. Even with Maps Navigation and Play Music going simultaneously, my battery still inches ahead; it charges even better with Navigation off, and if my phone is completely inactive, it's just amazing how quickly it replenishes.

Does your car already have Bluetooth, though? If not, you might want to consider getting a Bluetooth car kit. That usually comes with a charger, and of course lets you do hands-free calls and easier music control.

u/ctskifreak · 1 pointr/nexus5x

Cable: CHOETECH 1.6ft (0.5m) USB-A to USB-C - I have the 1 meter cable as well, but realized I didn't need that much slack.

Charger: PowerGen 4.2Amps / 20W Dual USB Car charger I've had this for a while now - close to 3 years. (I seem to have an older version as my order history says 3.6Amps / 18W.) I bought it when I had my Google Play Edition Galaxy S4 and a company iPhone 4s. It shows as Charging when plugged in - not rapidly but not slowly either. I use DashClock still and it shows as "Charging (AC)" instead of USB, and it keeps up with running Google Music and Play music at the same time on long trips. I don't have the brightness jacked up, about half way, and it will charge will driving long distances.

Case:Spigen Thin Fit Nexus 5x Case I've liked Spigen and I wanted a thin case. I don't have the biggest hands in the world (reason I didn't get a 6p) so I didn't want a case that added a lot of bulk.

Screen Protector: ANSOTT LG Nexus 5X Tempered Glass Screen Protector I rolled the dice as there are a bunch out there and so far it has been fine. I see 2 chips in the protector from what I assume are drops I caused.

Car Mount: Ipow Long Arm Universal Windshield Dashboard Cell Phone Holder This is to replace this mount which I had for about 2 years. The design of this older one used some springs and plastic grooves that the 2 arms slid on and it eventually wore and cracked. The only problem with the new one is that due to the power and volume buttons on side, it has to be mounted in one spot to not hit any of the buttons. The grip is strong and the arm is nice as it's closer to me than the old one - I don't have to reach as far. This plus the new Android Auto update should make trips nicer.

Hi Wendi, congrats with the baby!

I got this a few months back. I got it in silver but as of now it is out of stock on amazon. Works great, comes with a short mini usb cable but works with the Samsung cable too. Doesn't have waterproof but looks kinda rugged and has a LED light with it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UXS7958/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Ut0-zbX7V1TM9

It includes a video showing how it works, and it even rotates! I want that so bad.

I have several of this car mount/wireless charger. They worked great on my Nexus 6. Unfortunately I got a different phone without wireless charging so I cannot use that part of it. It is very convenient to just put it in and not have to worry about plugging in the charging cable. The suction cup sticks well, even to a textured dashboard.

As I was going through your requirements, I thought of my iOttie, until I got to wireless charging, but it looks like they have a wireless version.

From car.

I don't use the sticky pad they provide as I haven't felt the need to, sucks pretty hard.

u/BlankBB · 1 pointr/GalaxyS7

The issue with the iOttie is that it is not fast wireless charging, but they do have a new version out.

I replaced my iOttie https://www.amazon.com/iOttie-HLCRIO132-Wireless-Standard-Charger/dp/B00UXS7958/

with this one - dodocool Qi Wireless Charger 10W 3-coil Fast Wireless Charging Car Mount: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XD7WJDL/

The dodocool has a goofy name but works well. It is able to charge my phone while using Spotify and Google Maps at the same time. FYI Waze does seem to use a bit more juice than Google Maps.

Also, I like how it has the vent clip style mount included as I never have had any luck with the suction cup base mounts staying put after a hot day.

Is this what you're thinking you want? I guess it's not necessarily magnetic, but I have the non-Qi version and it does a fantastic job of holding onto my phone.

I'm very specific about car docks and I'd definitely recommend this one.

https://www.amazon.com/iOttie-HLCRIO132-Wireless-Standard-Charger/dp/B00UXS7958/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1502730046&sr=8-12&keywords=iottie

I've been using it for a few months now in my Altima and it is BY FAR the best dock I've ever used. It's extremely simple to dock and remove your phone with one hand, the build quality is very good, configuring it to almost any angle is possible, the suction is strong, and best of all it has built in wireless charging (though I removed the wireless charging component in it and modified the mount to have a fast wireless charger instead).

There's also the non-wireless charging model for much cheaper, which is still a good item. My wife has it in her car and I've only used it a few times, but I feel that the dock is a little more shaky than the other one, maybe because there's less plastic because of the lack of wireless charging components.

Very happy with my Note 8. Got the Unlocked from Samsung directly:

Galaxy Note8 64GB (Unlocked)

Added 256GB SD card and this case:

Ztotop Armor Shield Shockproof Rugged Protective Case with Kickstand for Samsung Galaxy Note8 (2017) - Black / Black

Been using this wireless charger at home:

Spigen Essential F300W Qi Wireless Charger Charging Pad with 3 Coils

And these in my vehicles:

iOttie Easy One Touch Wireless Qi Standard Car Mount Charger

The case works with both wireless chargers. I've had the phone for a couple of months and never needed to plug it in to charge. Battery has never gone below 40%, but I have no idea if I am above or below the average when it comes to using it. I use it extensively for reading, taking notes, and listening to music (via Bluetooth headphones). I take occasional pictures, which have come out really nice, and a couple of long videos.

Been very happy with the purchase, since I got $400 off the purchase price as a former Note 7 owner (turned in an old Galaxy S5). Because of that, I don't have contract to worry about, and since it's unlocked, I can switch carriers if I want to.

u/justarandomgeek · 1 pointr/CGPGrey

My Charging Solution:

USB Micro (grumble grumble, upgrade to C already!), USB-C, and Qi.

I have Qi chargers in various fixed places and just set the phone there as i enter and pick it up as I leave. I have one in my car for when i'm driving.

Pixel 2 XL has a C port, but I've replaced it for normal usage with a Qi pad on the back of the phone, which fits nicely inside the case. If I leave it off the charger entirely, I get >2 days. (Grumble Grumble Nexus line has Qi but Pixel line doesn't...)

Various devices on MicroUSB - Headset, speakers, keyboards, nearly every non-computer device that charges. Most of these devices can be pre-charged for weekend travel.

Pebble has a custom cable from USB A, but lasts ~4 days, so I can pre-charge for most weekend travel.

I have a power bank with 2 USB A ports and a USB C port, and Qi on the front face. It can also pass through power from either of it's input ports to any output.

I don't tend to do much computing when I travel, so I'm mostly down to the phone and it's cluster of peripherals. I don't currently have a laptop, but often borrow my dad's for travel, and it has a unique (Lenovo) charger.

For a day: I just take my devices.

For a weekend: I take the Qi battery pack.

For a heavy-usage weekend/longer: Qi battery back, USB C<->C cable, USB C wall charger (so far only travel within US, so that's easy...), USB A<->USB Micro. For longer than a weekend, Pebble cable.

In the future the watch will probably be Qi also, and I could see a lot of devices with sufficient surface area going Qi, and the rest going USB-C. IMHO, the solution to charging cables is to get rid of them all, in favor of ubiquitous wireless power.

Edit: Oh, and Apple is adopting Qi too, so it's going to be a standard on both sides!

We all start somewhere! I didn’t even attempt panel lining on my first go.

A fine Gundam marker is a start. I use this stuff now, but cleanup does require enamel thinner and cotton swabs, where a Gundam marker can be wiped off with your finger. There should also be some useful info on the sidebar and the Wiki (plugging for u/MachNeu!)

u/format120 · 1 pointr/Gunpla

Hey guys! Just found this sub, but I've been wanting to get into this hobby for a while. Planning on going with this one to get my feet wet.

Before I buy it, I'm also planning on getting these markers and these wash's (both from the wiki). Can someone show me to a video tutorial that explains exactly how to use them please? I've got no idea what the wash's are for...

I might also pick up this scriber to try and do some battle damage, but I can't find any tutorials on that? I'd also need some paint...

Is there anything else that I'm missing? I've already got decent angle cutters and an Xacto knife.

Thanks!

U. Just found the tutorials link that covers lining, but I could still use some info on adding battle damage!

u/ZeroV8 · 1 pointr/Gunpla

A lot of people will suggest using enamels as the next step up from using gundam markers. Tamiya makes this set of pre-thinned enamels specifically for panel lining. I've had some luck with them, though I actually still prefer gundam markers if I don't go the full clear coat-panel line-flat coat route. If you use those also pick up some enamel thinner (lighter fluid actually also works) to clean up your lines.

u/crazypipo · 1 pointr/Gunpla

This is the best one to start out. It's easy and fool proof.

I have a few questions about enamel washing. I'm planning on using: Panel-Accent-Color and

thinner

Are there any alternatives to the thinner that I can use that are sold locally?

My real questions come with the step process of the enamel wash. I've been looking at multiple guides and reddit post and they differ. From what I've come to understand the step are as follows:

1)Before panel lining, apply a top coat.

2)enamel wash

3)Cotton swab and thinner

4)Final top coat, if I'm done building.

For my top coat I'm planning on using Matte Top coat. So if I'm using these materials, I would spray the part with the top coat, then I would apply the panel lines with the Tamiya panel line product, using the thinner I would carefully and gently clean the blobs that are outside of the panel lines. After I'm all done, I would spray one final top coat.

If I'm using these exact same materials does my coat before panel washing have to be different than my top coat when I'm done building?

I'm not planning on painting the kits any time soon.(Underlined text are the questions)

Sorry for the lengthy post and thanks for your help!

You just need a A to C cable for file transfers to a PC, and a C to C cable for charging. You can use pretty much any C to C cable with good reviews, but you need to make sure the A to C cable is compliant. Yes, stock charger. And I compare the speed to my Nexus 7 and Blu 4.5. The G4 charges faster than those, but not as fast as the 6P, so I guess its all relative. I also have this car charger and it charges about the same in the car.

So I guess its not USB-C fast, but it seems faster than other USB-micro devices I use. Could also be that so far I can go 2-3 days without charging it (with moderate use), which is better than any other device I've had yet, so maybe in my mind it seems fast because its not charging from 15%.

u/byronbrewer · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

That was my assumption but thought it was worth asking with all of the confusion over Type-C. I thought I understood what I could and couldn't use until I noticed that the Choetech USB-C charger that worked fine with my Nexus 6p wouldn't charge my Pixel. Now I'm just confused on what should and shouldn't use.

I'm worried that I can't use the [Aukey Type-C car adapter] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018TGGH4E) I used for my Nexus 6p. Worked fine on the 6p but don't want to risk it on the Pixel knowing all the problems out there.

One of the double chargers I use for my own electronics, the other is used for charging PAX's phones or tablets. u/ReportingInSir · 1 pointr/gadgets

Just like trying to find a fast charger that will actually fast charge your model phone. So many different standards and different ways crap is worded that you have to weed out all the junk ripoffs that don't do what they say and then only certain phones can be fast charged that are capable of fast charging as the charger may not have that specification that is only required for one of your devices and not others. It is a total mess especially in the car charger department where you want a charger that will fast charge most devices.

I ended up settling on this charger. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charge-Charger-PowerDrive-PowerIQ/dp/B01K9MQ8WW and if your phone can't be fast charged with it then too damn bad. You can just slow charge is what i will tell anyone that is with me.

Get a better charger. As others have noted, those cheapos only put out 1-2 amps, and it's split among the ports. A good 2.4amp charger will be less than $20.

Something like this will put out 3.0 amps on each port, easily keeping most mobile devices charged even while running and even when using both ports.

u/kilingangel · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

I use this one from Anker. Just use the USB to C cable that came with your phone, it gets rapid charge.

This is the quick charger I am using:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K9MQ8WW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The cable was bought from bestbuy and made for quick charging less than a year ago.

u/vi001101106 has a 2015 charger that apparently works, I would assume these items would work as well.

Do you happen to know what wattage should be required?

I am able to get fast charging in my car with the following items:

Aukey ditched that line of chargers, inc the USB-C one. Mine literally melted the charger and the included USB-c cable in it because??? crappy?

their newer ones are from a different source and much better

u/illithidbane · 1 pointr/GalaxyNote8

That's great to hear. I got the single port version so it would be smaller, but I don't have my Note 8 to test with it yet.

u/DoughnutSpanker · 1 pointr/essential

You have to use a USB PowerDelivery charger, as this phone doesn't have QuickCharge technology. I'd recommend these (none are affiliate) cables car charger and I typically use the stock charger brick, but I believe that this one should work, but I haven't used it.

u/nowan190 · 1 pointr/laptops

You could go for any one of the new ultrabooks being released with a usb type c connector for charging (e.g https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LHUAFAQ/). And then get usb type c car charger with power delivery feature (e.g. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0711BK418/).

u/TheCrazedGeek · 1 pointr/essential

I've been happy with this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0711BK418/

Needs a C-to-C cable for USB PD, though.

I bought this over a month ago. It shows 'charging rapidly' every time. Works great.

I've been on the same hunt myself and have been surprised that there are so few good options if you want to maximize rapid charging capabilities. For rapid charging, the charger needs to support Power Delivery (PD). Very few do, especially on Amazon. Even among the ones that do, some are sketchy and don't conform to the standards (risk damage to your phone). If you want to do it right, search out one that is USB-IF certified. The one you mentioned by Nekteck is (one of very few). I would recommend it, or this version with detachable cable:

I use the above car charger to charge my T480S and it works great. Charges while in use or in standby. I know that’s not a power bank, but it’s not made by Lenovo so I figured I’d comment. Sorry if it’s not relevant.

u/Eeyoresyndrome · 1 pointr/pixel2

The way it charges is odd. There's no reliable way to see the actual wattage/amp via apps like ampere, because something involving the screen being on.

And apparently the way pixel 2s charge, they sort of "ramp up" slower at first, then faster or something.

I did alot od research for a proper car charger that supports this new "power delivery" standard via type C.

Well since I never received a response I went out and bought one. This one works well it charges the laptop with no error messages and it also charges my pixel 2 it is IF usb C certified with PD specs, which was important to me. I ordered some longer cords that have full PD specs. These cords will handle up to 100watts so everything is working smoothly these USB c specs are confusing now I am labeling my cords since I have some lower wattage cords my phone uses. The Dell one is $100 geez incredibly over priced. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WQQG7C/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Their wall charger also works great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0712252ZQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has been wonderful. I'm able to navigate with Google Maps and play music and control my smart home on the road. It is so nice to turn off my lights or set my AC on early coming home from work. And ask if my front door is locked, its made by Anker In a direct partnership with Amazon.

Update if anyone is interested: I can confirm this dongle works correctly in my car. PD passthrough appears to be charging my phone (requires an appropriate car charger to supply correct power output) and my 3.5mm out to my car's aux port both work, simultaneously.

To be clear, I'm not checking actual voltage amperage out from this dongle but my Note10+ does say "fast charging."

For anyone further interested, this is the car charger I picked up as well that I'm using with it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079MWXSS8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_mdNHDbZPER4XJ

There are other options that look nicer but Amazon gave me an $8 instant coupon clip on this so it was the winner at $12.

You must use USB C to USB C from what I understand. USB A to C will not work if you want the higher PD power supply. For the 25watt charge option, a 3 amp cable should be fine (9v at 3amps = 27 watts). If you're going for a 45 watt target, good luck....

u/purpleXP · 1 pointr/GooglePixel

You have to buy a charger that supports USB PD to get fast charging on your pixel 3/3 XL in the car. This is one that I bought and it work with fast charging. Remember to also use a USB C PD rated cable to be able to get fast charging as well.

This isn't going to be using USB power delivery which means it will be charging significantly slower than it would if you were using the power brick.

FF7 is a good one. Anything 2d is going to be easier on the battery though. That said... the Switch charges... basically not at all from a laptop USB port. Can you get a USB-PD car charger or battery pack?
