This past month I've been bored and thought I'd play around with repurposing some of my 3 B+ I have. I have been running Pi-Holes on 2, and then had another one that was just sitting around as a little sandbox to play around with. This is a perfectly fine setup, but is incredibly wasteful in terms of resources used on a 3 B+, so I decided I could waste a lot of time and put everything on a kubernetes cluster. At my work, all our services are deployed on kubernetes, so I'm pretty familiar with building all the deployment/service stuff, but not very familiar with setup and actual management of a cluster. So this would be a good learning exercise for me. I started out with a couple goals: get a pi hole onto the cluster, get a plex media server running on it, and get some metrics gathered so I can see all my other devices. When searching around, I found plenty of tutorials on things here and there, many of which ended up only working part of the way requiring a good bit of hacking to get working in the end. I found this a fun little project. I've compiled a lot of links and stuff to get everything put together, and I thought maybe someone else might appreciate them together, or even just to get some inspiration.

First up, the hardware. I had 3 3B+, and I wanted a 1 master + 4 worker node cluster. Looking around I found a very nice setup which suited my needs and looked decent. If you are interested in the original inspiration (and some list of parts) here is what I based mine on. I did change a few things:

  1. I used this 6-port usb charger. I tried the one listed and it did not provide enough power to all the ports. Maybe just a bad one, but I already had another one and it worked fine.
  2. Instead of the mSATA expansion board, I ended up using a mSATA enclosure. I tried the expansion board and it gave me nothing but problems. Constantly dropped mounts and general instability. Took me at least a week to really narrow it down to the board.

    Cluster setup:
For the kubernetes setup I followed this guide. Probably one of the more straight forward parts of this entire build.

    Exposing a service:
I wanted to be able to expose services via their own IP address, so I went with a load balancer instead of an ingress. Metallb was straight forward to install, and gave me everything I wanted. I shrunk the subnet my DHCP would hand out, and gave a set of 10 IPs for it to use. The one catch I've noticed is when redeploying some services the IP can get stuck routing to a recycled pod. Effectively black holing the IP. At first I would just pick a different IP for that specific service, but that is not fun when you need to update references everywhere. I eventually found that recycling the metallb pod would get everything straightened out. I made this small script to run anytime I found a dead IP after a redeploy:

    kubectl get pods --no-headers -o custom-columns=:metadata.name -n metallb-system | while read pod; do
    kubectl delete pod "$pod" -n metallb-system
    done

    Metrics and Monitoring:
I first wanted to get the kubernetes dashboard working. It seemed simple enough, just installing https://raw.githubusercontent.com/kubernetes/dashboard/v2.0.0-beta1/aio/deploy/recommended.yaml, but found that some of the images were not arm compatible. The main issue was https://github.com/kubernetes/dashboard/issues/4029 which eventually got fixed. I am not sure if any new images were pushed to docker.io. I ended up setting up a local docker repo, building the fixed image locally, and then using the verson on my local docker.

I also found some nice use cases for using telegraf+influxdb+grafana. I could use this to aggregate node data, but also some services. The original monitoring sets that I followed is found here, while the steps to setup a influxdb+grafana I took from here.

    Storage:
Persistant storage would be needed for just about everything. I started with Heketi and glusterfs, but just couldn't get it to work. I ended up just setting up a NFS provisioner. To prepare the drive I followed this and then followed the storage section of this guide.

    Pi Hole:
I used this nice guide to getting started. It basically worked out of the box. The main caveats were changing the PV to use my NFS shares, use a load balancer instead of ingress, and pass in a password so it wouldn't auto generate each time the pod was recreated.

    Plex:
I found a decent starting point using this guide. That project does a little more than I wanted as well, so I specifically turned off the kubePlex option to farm off transcoding jobs onto the cluster. Then I had to switch the plex image to jaymoulin/plex and set node selectors to arm. To keep the configuration set after restarts I also had to add a volume mount to /root/Library.

The end result is I have a secondary pi hole, plex server, and monitoring stack running across 4 worker nodes. Still plenty of room for other things, I just haven't decided yet what else to add.

Got this about four months ago, no problems. 10 Watts each side, $70.

u/SixQuidSquid · 12 pointsr/AppleWatch

I use this as well, in the car. It keeps the watch upright and prevents it from slipping off the charger.

u/McFeely_Smackup · 9 pointsr/LifeProTips

I carry one of these in my travel kit. I don't have to find a free power outlet, I just have to find one that someone is using and offer to share.

To date, I've never had anyone refuse and the couple of tech savy people who have inquired about the port wattage have been impressed.

It's super handy in hotel rooms too because I just plug the one charger in, and all my wife's devices adn mine charge from it. No digging around to find a charger for each phone, two tablets, a kindle, gopro, etc.

u/Imlulse · 6 pointsr/GooglePixel

Wirecutter has a decent guide on this and they seem to stand by Samsung's, tho they haven't really updated it to take 10W charging into account and Anker has released like three newer pads since that was written so maybe it's not so useful.

I'm annoyed that all seem to require a Qualcomm QC charger for 10W (outside of Google's stand). I never had a QC phone (went from the Nexus 5 to an OG Pixel) and already have a bunch of USB PD chargers, not to mention a couple USB-C 5V/3A outlets in my house; but will still need a new charger for any 10W pad, bleh.

Anyway, I'm liking the looks and functionality of this iOttie... It seems to make some attempt at venting the pad area better than most and has an extra Type A port, plus it has a Type C input even if it still requires a QC charger (comes with one tho, and A to C cable). I'll probably get that for my nightstand.

I'll probably get Google's Stand for my desk to see how their special functionality works and because it uses their standard 18W USB PD charger (I already have longer cables etc.). Might get this IKEA 3x device pad for the living room since there's one other Qi user in the household (and my Nexus 7 is still knocking around).

If you're just looking for a cheaper but decent quality pad, these two Ankers seem like a good bet as well as this Spigen. I'll probably get the second fan-less black Anker for travel and/or the kitchen. I had LG, Google (the one with magnets), and Pleson pads along with a Nokia stand when I had my Nexus 5, but gave most of them away when I got the Pixel.

Edit: As pointed out before, this other Anker might be their most interesting one, it came out last month and it might be the only one with USB-C in, I'm not even seeing it on their site.

If you don't mind actual headphones, instead of earbuds, I highly recommend the Sony MDR XB950BT--especially if you care about bass (bass boost in Bluetooth mode is amazing, but it's more average in wired mode). The price having halved semi-recently only makes it even more of no-brainer for those that don't mind giving up the portability of earbuds. Great battery life, too.

So, yeah, definite buy for those looking for Bluetooth bass. If you want earbuds, I'd just get a solid pair of buds and a Bluetooth dongle. I like the MEE buds (the M6 PRO have just a hair less bass and slightly better overall sound than the M6 and S6P, but the overall performance difference is small--all have deep enough bass for enjoyable rap-listening if used with double or triple flange tips) and then match them with something like https://www.amazon.com/Avantree-Bluetooth-Receiver-Headphones-Wireless/dp/B00N7AWL2U.

Whey flying, I just take one of these, with a long cord and multiple usb outlets. Works well in airports.

On shorter trips (up to couple hours from home) one of these is super portable and great for charging phones without an outlet. (would be nice if it would charge with lightning so I could reuse the cable)

u/Davi18 · 5 pointsr/ipad

This cable charges my iPad super fast in conjunction with this charger. The cable is a USB C gen 2 cable which means it supports much faster charging and data transfer (the new iPad has a gen 2 port). I also charge my Lenovo yoga 720 at full speed with no issues. For a good USB C to USB A charger (at 3.0 speeds) I recommend this.

Moving the goalposts eh?

You can literally just search on Amazon for something like "qi charger multiple devices" and you'll get a bunch of results.

Just pick from some of the highly reviewed ones. I didn't see one from Anker but this one has good reviews.

We bought a couple of these. They work well, and do enable fast charging if you place the phone carefully. If it's somewhat off center, it will still charge, but it won't show "fast charging" on the S8. Charges both of our S8's at the same time.

There you go.

Ordered it last friday, estimated delivery of thursday, arrived today. Charger works perfectly.

u/Turtlecupcakes · 2 pointsr/Dell

You will need a PD (Power Delivery) charger to charge the XPS 15.

The Chromebook Pixel 2 charger is the only charger that I've reliably seen recommended. Keep in mind that the 60W pixel charger has half the power of the real Dell charger. I've read that it will stop charging if you're doing anything that triggers the dedicated graphics card and generally charges slower than the standard brick (which isn't as much of an issue if you charge overnight/at a desk).

I think the ecosystem is still a little too young to see lots of PD accessories. I've seen stuff come out every month or two, but none of it is really that highly recommended from what I've seen. The Pixel charger is your best bet if you're buying today, but there will be something "a little better" around the corner for the next couple of years with USB Type-C/TB3, so you have to make a call for how much to buy in and when.

Browsing around, the reviews for this one are also promising: https://www.amazon.com/iVoler-Charger-Delivery-Macbook-Chromefwefebook/dp/B01ET7SDXK/ but I haven't heard of the brand before and you'll need to make sure to find a good Type-C power Delivery cable to plug into it (which could bring the price right back up to the Pixel charger range)

u/MyUserIsOriginal · 2 pointsr/razer

Never worry about your tip again, get this, https://www.amazon.com/iVoler-Charger-Delivery-Macbook-Chromebook/dp/B01ET7SDXK and buy a USB-C to USB-C cable that is capable of power delivery.

u/rbpx · 2 pointsr/GooglePixel

That's $92.53 in Canada.

Note that other, typical chargers are on the order of $30.

Why is this charger sooo expensive? When I planned to buy my 3XL I had every intention of picking up a wireless charger. Sure, I expected it could be as much as $60 - Google likes to charge a premium for everything (they have Apple High Margins envy).

But this, reportedly not so great, charger is normally $107. Seriously, Google? What are you smoking? Ridiculously extortionate.

u/iLynx · 2 pointsr/iphone

I use both Android and iOS so maybe I can help. For home charging I use an Anker 5 port charger that I bought off Amazon it work well and charges incredibly fast. They actually have an updated one that suppprts quick charge 3.0 but I have no experience with it.

For my car I use an Anker 24W dual port car charger. It charges super fast. You can find it here.

Cases are all subjective. I tend to own multiple cases but I always come back to the Apple leather case and a Poetic Affinity case depending on my needs. UAG cases are fantastic also.

I owned a Moto 360 and currently hold an Apple Watch. My Apple Watch is a day 1 and I can count on 1 hand the days I have not worn it. I love it. I prefer it to Android Wear but again this is subjective.

My biggest advice to you is give it time. If this is your first iOS device you will be looking for a back button out of habit. It's probably the most common complaint with iOS is no back button. However you can swipe in from the left side of the screen and it will bring you back. I much prefer that to a back button.

Your best bet would be to start by listing the apps you use frequently/like the most on your Android phone. Some of the bigger-name apps probably have equivalent versions on the iOS App Store. For the rest, you could probably ask around and in /r/IPhoneApps about what apps work best on iOS to replace the ones on Android.

The Move to iOS app is definitely the best way to migrate your data over. It should pretty effectively move everything over.

Definitely get a Qi charging pad if you don't have one already. If you already have Android charging pads, they'll work for regular (slow) charging on your iPhone. For fast charging, these are a decent price.

And as far as nuances with the iPhone XS/Max, this video from Apple does a pretty good job of laying out the basics, particularly what's changed from non-FaceID iPhones, though it does have the typical Apple cheese to it.

If you are looking to optimize further I currently use this charger for my Apple watch to avoid excess cables.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GWFC6FC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3Ra6CbS1A4Z0P

I actually use it in combination with these retractable cables.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GX8PYBM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_EXa6CbWC7KRFX

And these magnetic adapters.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076PJV7DV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_RYa6CbWQ75P0M

And plug them all in to one brick.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VH958F0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_g1a6CbRHXC0ND

If anyone's interested I can post pictures of my setup. It is great for my Apple watch , airpods, iPhone, iPad, and camera charger. Really cut down on my cable management . It's super good because now every device I charge uses the same cables and is basically a magsafe cable.

Looks shady, also:

> Additional Notes: HUB can't be used as a Charger.

It's unlikely you'd be able to run enough current through that thing to run a keyboard, mouse, and 14 flash drives; There's no way you can charge 10 GoPros and 6 phones without frying it.

6 device charging stations exist, but they're designed to be connected to mains, not 12v vehicle electrical systems - see, e.g. this one from Anker, or this one from RAVPower.

The only way you'll be able to set something like this up without an inverter is if you design and build your own, with a heavy-duty buck converter or a bank of smaller buck converters wired to the battery, with their outputs wired to USB ports. It's not a terribly expensive proposition, as the components themselves are cheap, but you're going to need to be handy with a soldering iron, and it's going to be time consuming.

u/KB_112 · 2 pointsr/AppleWatch

I've been using the Spigen dock since I got my S1 and it's been great. It's dirt cheap and enables the desk clock/nightstand mode. Soft touch, rubberized feel and takes up very little space on my nightstand. Both include a little bumper to adjust for the 38mm, as they're setup for the 42mm out of the box. Cheap, simple and they get the job done.

I bought the Moko brand for my wife and she has used it with no issue on her S0 for some time. I think the cable management is a tad cleaner on the Moko. Otherwise it's almost identical to the Spigen.

What are you looking to spend for speakers? I saw the receiver, and that is a great deal.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of klipsch for theater setups like what it sounds like you're trying to do. If you've been over to r/hometheater, you've probably seen a lot of it. They're very good for that. Excellent dynamics, fantastic vocal clarity, and they're just fun to listen to.

I would probably get these bookshelves for the front left and right or these towers or these towers, depending on what you want to spend, along with the matching center.

These would be perfect for rear speakers.

For a subwoofer, a Klipsch sub would work as well.

If you have high power devices like Moto Gs or something, you'll want higher power hubs. I nabbed a couple of these when the 7-port amazon-branded hubs couldn't keep up.

Since I scoop the majority of my household's phones off ebay, I don't usually have wall chargers (let alone good enough ones for a small flock of power-thirsty Motos) or I'd just use power strips.

You are in luck, it will work on the newer Tacoma charging pads! I don't have a Tacoma, but a friend of mine does and I always put my phone there since he can't use it.

As for what I have at home, it seems like it's currently discontinued (link), but I've had it for years without issue.

At work, I have a Tylt wireless charger (link). Also have had this one for a few years without issue.

For those curious, I had a Tylt qi car charger as well. Did not like it and the suction cup failed a few times. Was quite bulky and difficult to adjust. My new one (link) is slim and easier to adjust. Overall better than the Tylt qi car charger. Purchased at Target.

I should also point out that there are cheap chargers where you have to have perfect alignment in order to get a charge. For the products linked above, I have never had to "perfectly" align this phone or my nexus 6... and they are quite different in size!

You can search for something along the lines of "wireless charging receiver." I found a product that describes what you're looking for on Amazon for example.

Your Nokia supports QC 3.0 but others don't. Better to stick with the adaptor that comes in the box.

This one is costly but doesn't come with quick charge. Normal fast charging is available though at 2.4amps/port. https://www.amazon.in/dp/B00P933OJC/

u/brp · 1 pointr/onebag

Yea, seems to be the case.

If I were to get a charger I'd likely grab the Aukey one.

This one looks good if ya need 60W. Another one to consider if you're okay w/ 46W and also want QC 3.0.

u/andsoitgoes42 · 1 pointr/iphone

The reviews on that charger are terrible. I would strongly suggest sticking to something else.

this one is cheaper than the ikea model and has pretty good reviews.

Edit: Looks like Amazon doesn't actually sell the Spigen stand right now. Here it is on Spigen's own website: http://www.spigen.com/products/copy-of-apple-watch-nightstand-s350 But it is definitely NOT worth twenty bucks.

Other than buying some bands, there's not really much in the way of accessories needed! Cases just look clunky, most (not all, but most) screen protectors look tacky.

I'm a fan of Clockwork Synergy's bands, and Apple's own sport bands. I have a Space Black stainless steel model, and it looks sharp with the black, white and red sport bands.

Enjoy your new watch!

I actually own two of those:

They are charging with about 2.8 A at 4.8V which gets the device fully charged.

There is also a thread I just stumbled upon about charging which mentions some USB-C PD chargers that might be worth a try:

https://www.reddit.com/r/GPDPocket/comments/6krvz8/official_charger_specs/

Regarding the stock Ubuntu: I would get rid of that as soon as possible as the guys at GPD seem not to have any real clue about porting Linux/Ubuntu properly.

There are several options to switch to a better distribution that most likely causes less trouble as Hans did a great job working on an awesome kernel.

>Tesla is really protective when it comes to installing something in their car

So now it's some big secret for the voltage/current specs of the USB ports on the car? How do you think aftermarket charging pads get made?

He got the coil setup from a different wireless charger and QI charging is a standard (and so is USB).

Looks like 5V, 2A input, 10W output, so the coil resistance is pretty fixed:

Eh, Anker has a 7.5W wireless charger for under $17 right now. You need a QC-compatible wall charger to go with it, but Anker also has one of those for $13.99. The total cost for the whole setup is a bit over $30. That's pretty cheap by my standards...

I have a tip that I've found to much improve my headphone-during-workout experience. The main PITA for me was always a long cord flopping around or getting snagged and yanked out of my ears. I picked up a bluetooth clip-on like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00N7AWL2U/ref=mp_s_a_1_28?ie=UTF8&qid=1469363954&sr=8-28&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=clip+on+bluetooth

Clip it to my shirt collar on the back of my neck and use short headphones. I never even know they're there.

u/the-me-tree · 1 pointr/OculusQuest

I'm looking at a third party charger to use with my Oculus Quest so I can get more distance from my couch while playing and still charging. My concern is that this charger's USB-C port is designed for fast charging. Will the Quest accept fast charging? I'm hoping it won't because I fear that it'll degrade the battery faster than necessary. What is the max charging 'speed' or watts/amps the Oculus will accept? Will this charger damage my Quest?

u/xbkingx · 1 pointr/Fitness

I never understood the idea of getting terrible , cheap bluetooth headphones for working out. I mean, sure, for super hard/long sessions or when it rains, but for regular workouts I use my SE530s (yeah, overkill) connected to a bluetooth adapter like this.

It isn't audiophile-grade, since it's BT and that little amp isn't great, but it beats the crap out of those $20 BT headphones. Quality sound during a tough or long workout is such a nice luxury. If it's going to be a really messy workout, I just swap the 530s for one of the 30 or so sets of bundled earbuds sitting in a box in the closet.

u/manroth · 1 pointr/nexus6

The Nexus 6 is already compatible with Qi charging. Find a nice one on Amazon or wherever and you will be good.

I have used, and recommend Tylt chargers. They have 3 coils, instead of 1 so it is easier to place the device and be connected. But any Qi charger will work.

This has been on my bedside table, work desk and home office desk (I have 3 of them) for years

I have two of these (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KM18AP4), one at work, one at home. I park the phone there when it's not in my hand. I also have a 10,000mAh power brick that I keep in my backpack or gym bag. Yeah, the battery life could be better, but it's pretty easy to work around.

Needing to replace my N7 2013, I just bought this Tab A 8" (2019) for $290 CDN and plugged in this Qi receiver. I've got a case on order to protect the Qi receiver.

The Tab is noticeably thicker and heavier than the N7 likely due to the larger battery. I use my tablet for basic news reading and video watching. I don't need bells & whistles and S Pens and such. This device supports LTE but I intend to just use it on WiFi.

u/TomTheGeek · 1 pointr/AskElectronics

I doubt it will work without a computer as it needs the communication to decide how much power to send. Although you might get away with a dummy USB plug with a resistor in the right place but I have no idea what that would be.

If you don't care about 15w charging (since this is an Apple sub that's not applicable anyways) then how about this one:

It's certified Qi (well that's what they said) and it has plug in Lightning and microUSB ports in addition to the Qi charging. And it's only $39.
