No. Many of the panels seem to come from the same Chinese factories, though, resulting in very trivial differences which may make some of them look like an Anker you have in mind.

We spoke with Anker directly, and they told us they don't sell solar panels in the US and that any Amazon listings (like this one) are fake or people reselling without permission — which may explain why that Amazon listing is ridiculously overpriced, as if someone is importing and adding a markup.

In the last few days we've kicked around the idea of doing a deeper blog post about these problems on Amazon (partly as a follow up to this thread in /preppers), because that specific link has the "Amazon's Choice" label on it, even though it's unsanctioned.

I actually had a really complicated set up initially with extension wires running through the ceiling with a moving arm. It worked mediocre for the all work it took, and was too painful to untangle. The golden rule of keep it simple was hard learned.

Bioshock 1 + 2 is also $4.99 on its own. The triple pack isn't much of a savings from buying B:I and B1+B2.

If you've never played Bioshock 1 or Infinite though (I haven't played 2 yet), do yourself a favor and pick up these games. Although I recognize that $30 is a bit steep for B:I for us cheap asses on game deals, it's an incredible game. And don't let anyone tell you that the gameplay is bad, I reckon those folks are just bad at FPSs because this game has incredibly strong gunplay that recalls older classics where you wouldn't have to aim down the sights to avoid recoil and bullet sprays.

I haven't played the first in awhile, so I actually bought the two pack. Can't give an honest opinion on it other than it's as wonderfully atmospheric as Infinite, if not more so. I've heard Bioshock 2 was more of the same, but the Metacritic isn't bad, so I'll be giving it a spin as well.

Charging speeds vary

These chargers can give the Switch great speeds sometimes, but usually they're closer to just "okay". It seems to be random every time you plug it in. If the Switch is completely turned off (not just in sleep) when you plug it in, you'll almost always get those "great" speeds for as long as you keep it plugged in even after turning the Switch back on and playing. This happens because Nintendo's implementation of USB Power Delivery (USB PD) is very buggy. They're a hassle to use right for now, so I don't recommend them, especially since there are better alternatives now.

Safety issues

These don't damage the Switch, but they can damage other USB-C cables and devices, especially if you plug them in to something that doesn't make sense, like another charger. If you know how to use them right and you're careful, you won't damage anything, but why risk it? Get something else.

I'd generally recommend people put their cellphone on Airplane (and stop using it) as opposed to completely powering it off. I find that a modern smartphone can last days in airplane, and turning it on and off wastes a lot of battery power on startup/shutdown.

Having no network access means your phone can go into a deep powersaving sleep. If you have portable batteries, ensure they're charged and UNPLUGGED before the storm hits (due to surges, same goes for any other important electronics such as cells and laptops).

If you still have cell service and need to communicate, shut off your wifi and mobile data and go old school. Text messages require minimal power, and your phone should be able to stay like this for some time without losing too much charge. Using data, be it wifi or cellular, will deplete your cellphone battery in hours.

I'd also recommend having one of those foldable USB solar panels (https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-iPhone-Galaxy/dp/B012YUJJM8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1504892356&sr=8-4&keywords=usb+solar, they really work!!) as a way to recharge devices if the grid goes out for multiple days. These things are a gimmick. Trust me, you'll have a decently hard time charging up 10000 mah with a 21watt anker folding solar panel, but these things dont do jack. Not only that, but lithium ion batteries are not build to withstand the heat that would be required in keeping that battery in direct sunlight for the extended amount of time it would require to actually charge it. Just wanted to say that this mod is essential for any Quest owner. I found the headset to be unbearable no matter how much I adjusted the straps there was just too much pressure on my forehead and cheeks. Decided to give the counterweight mod a try and it is definitely a game changer. There is no more pressure on the face and I can wear the headset for hours now with no discomfort.

This worked wonderfully at Red’s Meadow while we ate and resupplied.
  
• A tad heavier than the older powercore and at a premium of $45 (got mine on Amazon Day sale though), plus the price and weight of an 18W charger.
  
• 10k mAh and 6.7oz.
  
• I can also add the other Anker 10k for a total of 20k mAh and 13oz, if you’re rocking a YouTube level video production.

• Im not a fan of the bulky and heavy name brand solar chargers, but I f you’re not sucking down huge amounts of power every day, a cheap and light supplemental solar panel like this is a great addition. I’ve tested this several times on open (minimal shade) trails, plugged into the Anker while I hike and it does a surprisingly good job of topping off the bank or getting extra mA before needing to recharge on longer trips.
  
• Trim some of the extra plastic off to save another ounce of weight. Do the math by pairing it with a smaller bank and you can come in at the same weight or less than a higher capacity bank.
  
• Real world output of 3W and 2.75oz trimmed.
  
• I plan on trying this out with the Klarus to see if I can get a sub 6oz solution that can be indefinitely sustainable (given the proper conditions).

Some notes:

1 - I set up my cable with one of these kits, in my experience unless you train yourself, because you're still going to primarily turn in one direction, the wire will still get twisted, you need to take off the headset and untwist it occasionally (if you feel it pulling)

2 - This screw needs to be in a drywall anchor, or a bigger screw into a stud. It might feel snug now and work fine enough for you to ignore everyone's advice thus far, but it will eventually tear out. Best case scenario, you're left with a small hole.

I'd wait for Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition ($7.49). I bought it and I love it, but you need a controller since it's a straightforward port, but also if you're not into first person action RPGs, then maybe Bioshock 1 and 2 ($4.99) or Batman Arkham GOTY Pack ($11.49) for action. Then there's Microsoft 5-Game Arcade/Indie Pack ($9.99) if you want to go casual (or just get Mark of the Ninja ($3.75) from it). Some people like The Storming, Burning, Reflecting, Flaming, Sabotaging Pack ($9.99).

If you like strategy games, I'd either look at the Paradox bundles or wait for X-COM and Civ V Gold because I think they'll be cheaper later this month. Oh, and there's the Sonic Action Pack ($9.99) if you like platformers. I don't myself, but Generations make it a great deal for $10.

The ethernet adapter I got was the Linksys USB3GIG. It is nice that the USB3GIG supports 1000Gb and has USB3.0 to take full advantage of the bandwidth in theory.

Micro USB is limited to USB 2.0 (at least, the "single plug" micro USB that these adapters use), so transferring speeds will be limited with an adapter. Otherwise, no downsides as far as I'm aware.

Do make sure you get a proper one, tested with a positive review by Benson Leung on Amazon if possible. I personally use the Xiaomi adapter for my Nexus 5x, never had issues so far.
Alternatively, these Anker ones are cheaper and have prime shipping.

I've been using the Anker PowerCore+ for a couple months and it has been great with my OG Pixel. It charges through USB C and the USB C port also rapid charges my phone. No complaints so far. I haven't tried using the USB A to C cable to charge my phone, so I can't comment on if it causes quick charging as well.

Be mindful of what accessories you personally need. People needs are different. The only global accessories that seem to be useful to everyone:

1. A screen protector. This applies to pretty much any tablet accessory where the screen is not covered by design (like the 3DS clam shell). This is the one I got and it works well ($9.00):

4. If, and ONLY if you plan to get your games digitally, you WILL want an additional memory card. The one I paste below has enough space for at least 20 games given the average game space that we've seen so far (BoTW takes 14 GB, but Mario Odyssey takes 5.5 Gb, so in average, it evens out.). Note this is only the games you can have installed at a time, you can always remove one or more if you want to download another one, and games you purchase digitally will always be available for re download as long as the eshop exists.

   Any other accessory should REALLY be considered on a need-to basis. Not everyone needs a pro controller (depending on the games you play, I've been fine without it with only BoTW, Mario Kart, Fate/Extella and Mario+Rabbids.), and not everyone needs an extra, improved stand/dock.
   
   Finally, do some research on what games you will actually want to play. What I've seen is that games on the switch are NOT cheap, and unless you have extra disposable income, buying a game you don't really play can lower your overall appreciation of the system. Not only that, but because releases are sparse at the moment, it's easier to jump into the hype in order to keep using your shiny new hardware. Though that really applies to any console.

This solution has eliminated all my cable hassles entirely. The overhead system keeps the cable off the floor and the belt clip keeps the cable from pulling on your head when/if it gets bound. Works great!

Android takes a little getting used to but you'll see that you can do sooo much more out of the box.
Get familiar with the 2nd screen as it's a big help. It takes a bit of time to get used to it... I sometime forget it's there and still unlock to skip songs and whatnot. You can set different apps for shortcut, a set of setting, music controls, etc. If you're sticking with LG's home screen then go settings>home screen>select home screen and choose Home & app drawer to have the way Android was meant to be used XD. The factory style gives more of an iOS feel with all apps on the home screen which to me is a lot of clutter. I have Nova paid (aka prime) and haven't switched to it yet...
Headphones... get a good pair to take advantage of the HiFi DAC. Good pair doesn't mean high impedance or pricey. I use Meze 12 Classics and they sound so freaking good with this phone! They're also sexy af imo lol They'll set you back $59 which to me is a good price point for everyday use IMEs. Another that is being recommended a lot are the 1More Triple Driver IMEs. These set you back $89. The HiFi DAC only works with wired headphones...in case you didn't know.
Another thing to consider is either getting LG's battery pack and cradle combo or a battery pack. I have Anker's 10000mah QC 3 battery pack and it gives me around 3 charges on my V20. Prefer this to be taking off the case, cover, swapping batteries and putting everything back together -___-
That brings us to cases... get one ASAP if you haven't already. There's a lot of choices out there. I have the Spigen Tough Armor with kickstand and it's been great. Sleek and the kickstand is pretty functional with my only gripe with it being plastic....Spigen, Rinke and Urban Armour are three of the most recommended cases. Check reviews and pick the one that best suites your needs. Haven't gotten a screen protector as of yet... there hasn't been one that covers the whole screen or wraps around the edges with the V20 having a slight curved screen.

Another thing I always do is settings>fingerprint and security>unknown sources to On. This will let you install apps out of the play store.

Also, Reddit is a great community to get good and quick answers.

Your budget is probably not realistic. The Anker PowerCore+ 20100 charges and discharges via USB C, has two additional USB A ports for other devices, and offers 20100mAh. I had and loved that power bank until an improperly closed water bottle led to its early demise.

It's $70 USD, or about twice your budget.

Closer to your budget would be a Mophie Powerstation Plus Mini with USB C. It even has a little built-in cable. I got one of those because it's pocketable. It works, but it doesn't ensure days of travel the way the Anker CorePower+ 20100 monster does.

But 10+mAh, USB C PD, and decent quality on your budget? You won't find it.

It's a powerful little array. Even at less than ideal angles I can get 1.5 amps out of it, which matches some (shitty) wall/car chargers.

For some anecdotal numbers: I had it zip tied to the roof of my car during a music festival and it could charge my 20k anker from zero to almost full over the course of the day. This was while keeping it in one "ideal" spot on the roof centered around noon, I did not keep adjusting it throughout the day.

When we travel, we will often rent a car to do some exploring. We use offline Google Maps to navigate, and this little magnetic mount to attach the phone to the car's air vent. It's really small and convenient to toss in the bag.

The most invaluable thing is for you, not passengers, and that's a phone mount. I got this one and I think it's great! You need it because you need to know where you're going and easily follow directions, but you don't want to be holding your phone or looking at your lap. I did my first day (~2 hours) without the mount and then got it the next day. It was great. I'll never not use it.

For pax, I have water, mints, chocolate, and dum dums, but tbh I've been eating most of the lolipops haha! Get what you want and just be friendly. Most (not all, some people are still assholes) pax know that anything beyond a ride and friendly smile is extra and not expected.

I mostly use the Apple Pencil with Notability or LiquidText. I use Goodnotes a little. Some of my professors use Google Drive, so I need to use those apps from time to time. I also like Outlook for email, iBooks and Kindle Reader for different texts. Duet Display turns my iPad into a secondary screen for my MacBook Pro. I use Scanner Pro to turn all my syllabi and other handouts into PDFs. iStudiez Pro helps keep my schedule in order, and Quizlet helps me study. I use Affinity Photo for processing my Nikon RAW files ( I let my Adobe CC subscription lapse, I just don't find myself using my dSLR that much lately.) I also use a MIDI keyboard with Garage Band and Pro Metronome for piano practice when I don't have access to a real piano/piano lab/practice room.

I keep games and other entertainment apps off the iPad since I'm trying to study and don't want to make it any easier for me to goof off.

Case, Screen Protector, Apple Pencil sleeve, tether to keep my adapter on my cable, stand, keyboard, and holder for using my iPad as a second screen for my MacBook Pro. I also use Anker cables, charger port, and portable charger.

It was our 2nd time going to Japan last April (yay sakura season!) and all in all, mga 100-150k ang nagastos siguro naming 2 ni wifey for 7 days. Original budget was 100k pero pasalubong and stuff. We spent more during our first trip because we spent soooo much on stuff from Universal Studios (theme parks can be really expensive) plus Cebu Pacific changed the date of our flight so we had to spend more because we had to be re-routed to Tokyo and take another plane to go to Osaka.

Now to answer your question and some tips:

Budget

• You need to identify your budget first i.e. how much can you and are you willing to spend. Your itinerary will revolve around this
  
• Don't approach your travel to Japan the other way around where you plan where to go and what to do because it will only frustrate you if you find out that you can't do all of the things that you wanted
  
• By knowing how much you can spend, you can then prioritize the activities that needs to be included in your trip
  
  Travel
  
  
• Search from cheap flights here https://matrix.itasoftware.com/ and then buy the ticket from the airline it recommends
  
• If you're entering from Osaka, get a tourist Through Pass pass, 5k Yen/person siya and it will save you a lot of money if you're moving around a lot. Note - it does not allow you to take JR trains. I don't think Tokyo has something similar so you'll have to get a regular IC card or pay in cash for public transportation.
  
• IC Cards - they're prepaid cards that you can use to pay for train rides, bus rides and even 7-11's. Highly recommended for the added convenience.
  
• Google Maps is your best friend. It will tell you how to get to where you want to go, which train station do you need to transfer as well as their scheduled departure times. You will need internet connectivity for it though
  
• You can ask some of the train station staff how to get to a certain terminal. Some of them have maps and can show you where to go.
  
• We saved a bit by taking an overnight bus from Osaka to Tokyo instead of taking a plane and spending some cash for a hotel room I think. You can argue about the time saved though since parang 9pm-7am ang biyahe namin. It will be up to you on how to fill in the gap for the time you check out from the hotel till the bus' departure time. • Bullet Train/Shinkansen - Expensive but it is nice to experience it at least once. Osaka to Tokyo cost us around 15k Yen/person if memory serves me right, trip duration was about 3 hours. There is a Osaka-Kyoto route if you just want to try it out which should be much cheaper.
  
  Food and Lodging
  
  
• It is a tossup between AirBnB and getting a hotel depending on your needs/wants. You can get really cheap and accessible places either way but one of the benefits of getting AirBnB is some of them would toss in a free pocket wifi that you can use while in Japan.
  
• Lodging is cheaper in Osaka vs. Kyoto. I'd get a place in Osaka first and then take a train for about 45 minutes to get to Kyoto. If you were to get the Through Pass then the cost shouldn't be an issue.
  
• Food from convenience stores like 7-11 and Family Mart are actually quite good, a meal for 1 person is about 300-500 yen
  
• DO NOT TIP. Tipping is considered rude and you're basically telling them that they're not being paid enough by the establishment they're working for.
  
  Connectivity
  
  
• Rent a pocket wifi unit from the airport. 3G is plenty fast but check if the provider has data caps or throttling once you hit a certain threshold. It would suck if you have internet problems and your only way to figure out how to move around the area is via Google Maps. You will need a credit card for this though.
  
• Get a decently sized battery pack. I have an Anker PowerCore+ 26,000 mAh power brick (it feels and weighs like one too) and I'd end the day with 50% charge after connecting the pocket wifi and 2 cell phones to it throughout the day
  
  Cash and Payments
  
  
• Just like the Philippines, Japan is a cash heavy society. There is a good chunk of establishments that don't have credit card terminals.

You know, I'd swear I've seen at least one before that supports USB PD 2.0 (variable voltage and amperage for higher overall power levels (watts)) but now that I'm looking I can't find any. Maybe I'm wrong. Either way, any good battery pack that has a Type C port will be able to put out 15W (5V x 3A).

The Anker 21W solar charger trickle charging in to a battery works pretty well. Use the battery as your main source of power, and top it up with the solar if in the wilderness/as a backup. The battery will easily give you multiple phone charges, and the solar panel can top the battery up pretty well. I had no problems with the panel strapped across the top of my panniers and trickle charging the battery all day.

Anker are really good. I have the 20,000mAh USB-C power delivery ones. It's a lot more reasonably priced and is just small enough to be pocket sized (if a bit heavy). Get two of them instead.

I second this! Had some time to put it under heavy use while away from a power adapter for a full day, but last week that I was traveling and I needed it for the whole day, it seemed that battery was depleting much faster than before.

Solar doesn't work like how you think it works. Solar is like using a dripping faucet to fill a bucket. If you think you're going to charge a phone placing it in the sun for 5 mins you're in for a huge disappointment.

If you plan to basecamp awhile you can get an Anker 21w panel system and a two 13,000mah battery packs.

How this works is... During the day when you're out hiking you position the solar panel in the sun at your base camp. It will roughly take a full day to fully charge a 13aH portable battery if the conditions are good. Now you have 13Ah of power or enough portable battery to charge your phone at least 3 times. You put that in your backpack.

While you're carrying one of those 13,000mah battery packs you put the other on the solar charger at camp so it's fully charged and ready to go when you get back in the evening. When the one you're carrying is dead, you swap it for the charged one.

You never actually plug a phone directly into a solar charger as that's insanely inefficient. Same as houses with solar power, they are not powered by the solar panels they're powered by battery banks that are recharged by the sun.

If you're going on a thru hike without a basecamp or stopping during the day? Solar is not for you. Carry some high capacity portable batteries and limit phone use.

Honestly I wouldn't get a solar battery pack. They're too small and sometimes don't even charge past 50%. Look for a usb solar panel (Anker or Nektech) and add a good battery pack (again anker or ravpower) 20,000 mAh or more. Charge your phone and battery pack during the day. At night use the battery pack.

My suggestion for everyone, reasonable price and high quality (brand tested by the Google Engineer, approved. I also tested the outputs with my own multimeter and noted they meet spec after reading all about his comments):

You can get an adapter that takes plugs into your phones micro USB port and gives you a full USB port as well as a micro USB female port for charging. I use one for my NVIDIA SHIELD portable, which I use as my "console" to stream PC games to the main TV rather than my bedroom.

This smaller Anker one lasts me just as long as the one HTC shipped with the adapter; around 2.5 hours of continuous use.

This larger Anker one lasts me well over 4 hours. I haven't actually had it die on me yet; my longest playsession since getting the adapter has been around 4 and a half hours. It is decently bulky but it does fit into the included battery clip that the adapter comes with. It's just too large length wise so it will stick out the top of the clip. I wouldn't worry about it falling out of the clip though since it is a snug fit.

Also, this wall charger with QC 3.0 ports works with powering the wireless adapter. I've used it for when I'm doing sim stuff in the corner of my room. Having to plug in the wired Vive Pro cables for sim use is a real hassle so I just keep the wireless adapter on and plug the adapter into the wall charger. Works flawlessly.

Either way, I have both, and they both work with my Pixel XL. The PD one is slightly better because you can actually turn it off, whereas the regular one, you need to wait for it to time out (in order to charge it, if it's already on).

One factor that's nice about the 12" is that you can power it all day from high end external power bricks because of the low power consumption. It's really nice to have guaranteed all day battery life, especially if you like to tether and work outside.

I'd say go to an Apple Store and buy whatever model you like, and if you aren't satisfied return/exchange it within the 14-day window.

All the cables I previously mentioned as well as the following chargers (except the Anker 26800 battery) are USB-IF certified.
This charger from Monoprice has 5 ports - 1 Type C, 3 Type A. The 3 Type A ports have a total maximum output of 5V 2.4A, or 12W. Each individual Type A port is also capable of that 12W, given you have nothing plugged into the rest of them. The Type C port is capable of 5, 9, 12, 15, 20V charging, all at 3A.

This charger from Monoprice has 2 ports - 1 Type C, 1 Type A. The Type A has an output of 5V 2.4A, or 12W. The Type C is capable of 5V and 9V at 3A, or 15V charging at 2.6A. I do not think it is capable of 12V charging, 12V is just not listed on the MP website nor on the charger itself.

This (last) charger from Monoprice is a car charger and has 2 ports - 1 Type C, 1 Type A. The Type A has an output of 5V 1A, or 5W. The Type C is capable of 5V and 9V charging at 3A, or 12V charging at 2.25A.

This battery from Anker has 1 Type C and 1 Type A. The Type C acts as both an input and output for the battery. The Type C, as an input, is capable of 5V 3A (15W), 9V 3A (27W), 15V 2A (30W), and 20V 1.5A (30W). As an output, it is capable of 5V 3A (15W), 9V 2.67A (24W), and 15V 1.6A (24W). The Type A is 5V 2A, or 10W. It comes with a 30W wall charger as well as a C-C (Type C to Type C) cable as well as a Type A to Micro B cable. The output capabilities of the charger are not listed, so I will assume they are the same as the input of the battery's Type C port. The C-C cable is definitely only 3A capable, as the battery cannot output anything higher than that, and most likely only USB 2.0 capable.

This battery from Anker is a bit special. It is not expressly USB-IF certified but may fall under the clause that if two products (from the same manufacturer) are near identical then only one needs to be certified. I do not think it does, as it features an extra Type A port and has over 30% more capacity than the other one, but I'm going to list it here anyway. This Nekteck charger has just 1 Type C port, and is capable of 5V 3A, 9V 3A, 12V 3A, 15V 3A, 20V 3.25A charging. To get that 20V 3.25A charging you MUST use a 5A capable cable, a 3A capable cable will clip it to 20V 3A. This charger comes with a 6ft C-C cable that is capable of 5A charging, but is probably USB 2.0.

This Nekteck car charger is the same as the Monoprice one I listed above, except this only outputs 5V 3A and 9V 3A, no 12V charging on this one. The Type A port is the same as the MP.

It's gonna be expensive to get a good power bank that delivers a 40w charge, I don't think Anker makes any over 30w. Just search "Anker Power Delivery". The standard Anker Power IQ is 12w, for comparison. Are you trying to charge a laptop or can your huawei charge that fast?

If you don't wear glasses, I can't recommend these 6mm pads enough - much better FOV, for me improved comfort and easier to wipe down to keep them clean.

You might try using a thinner facemask on your Vive. By bringing your eyes closer to the lenses, it greatly reduces the amount of godrays, blurring, and chromatic abberation in your peripherals. Plus a bonus slight increase in FOV.

During a past hurricane, my mom lost power for like 10 days (she lives in the woods), so I left her both of these. She used the solar charger to charge the battery bank during the day, then used the battery bank to charge her phone at night.

• Board Games: For those who didn't know, there was a board game revolution of sorts that began in 1995 with Settlers of Catan. Since then, there have been some REALLY incredible games that have come out. I love board games so much, I go to monthly meet-ups with fellow enthusiasts to play new and different games. Once you play a gateway game like Ticket to Ride, you'll never look back.

• Phone: Of course, you should only use your phone if you can reliably keep it charged (and have a backup burner for 911 calls!). If you can do that, and you are still able to get 3G/4G, you should be more than entertained. And you can always download podcasts, movies, music, etc. to your phone in advance in case your cellular access is limited.

  There are only a few situations I can envision where you have access to uninterrupted power, but can't leave your house. If you have a generator, of course, or if you're in some type of Contagion situation. If that's the case...you really don't have an entertainment problem.

Absolutely, I paid about $50 for the setup, $30 for a OEM international back cover from eBay, and another $20 for the wireless charger.

It looks really sleek on my table, and it charges my phone fast enough. Of course, wired charging is quicker, but this setup is far more convenient, you just drop your device onto the pad and its done. That is worth $50 to me, that and the fact the Qi standard means my Moto 360 and my future devices will be compatible. I've been using wireless charging with my S4 for a year prior, and I did not want to go back to wires.

We have achieved it quite a long time ago, and we use it for small scale transfer. For example QI cell phone chargers.

Like /u/Akselmusic said, OneNote is going to be your primary tool. I would highly suggest getting the "Desktop" version of it (included in Office 365 if your school offers it for free, or available here under "Windows Desktop"). The built-in Windows 10 version isn't very flexible. Highly suggest you sync everything with OneDrive so that everything you write is synchronized to the cloud and available from any internet-connected machine with OneNote Online.

I set up a template in OneNote 2016 to generate a fresh A4 college-ruled page whenever I wanted (I don't like the "infinite paper" concept), that way I could easily send notes/entire assignments to the on-campus printers and/or easily export them for others to use. Here's an example of my setup.

As for accessories: carry and pair (Bluetooth) an extra pen and keep it in your bag, along with traditional pen and paper. The worst part of using the SP4 for taking notes last year was when my pen would randomly die, or when Windows decided to crash and needed a restart. A smartphone for taking quick snapshots for when instructors write too quickly and erase is useful also. I roll with an OtterBox and a tempered glass screen protector because I'm harsh on my electronics.

Those two types will be your only options. Every other type of USB can't provide more than 2.4 amps. You might be able to find a few with higher capacities, because I didn't really look and just got some examples.

You'll need something with USB-C PD so you can charge it while playing. Anker makes good batteries, I use Anker PowerCore+ 20100 and it works like a charm during my travels with the Switch.

I'm not sure disposable helps you any more than having a stockpile of rechargeable batteries, unless you're counting on some sort of resupply of disposables. I would rather get a solar panel and solar-compatible charger. Keep in mind lithium-ion can support higher output and has 3x the energy density.

As for the light, I think reliability would be the main concern and you would want a moderate beam pattern (not too floody, not too throwy) with decent lumens. There are a lot of lights that match that criteria. I would start with Armytek and Zebralight since they make very high quality lights. The Dobermann in Warm might be a good fit.

GoalZero gear is astronomically overpriced and tends to employ older technology.

The Fenix CL25R is an excellent USB chargeable, 18650 powered lantern. On moonlight mode, it runs for 600-hours.

Unfortunately I don't believe there is any solar chargers which will work well in overcast conditions. The upside is even if it cannot provide a ton of power it should still be able to charge your batteries, it will just take longer than if in direct sunlight.

I charge a power brick with it and then charge my devices off the power brick. Many devices (phones, etc.) need X power before they will allow charge, but most power bricks will charge under most any circumstances in my experience.

I brought my phone and laptop. I only ended up using my phone.

I had some larger capacity extended batteries. Then I got one of these.

One thing I found though was that if you leave your phone in the sun it overheats (that probably should have been obvious to me). So I put the panel on top of the car but the phone in the shade under the car. So get a long cable to go with it.

Yeah I'm aware it won't charge at full speed. This one from Anker is amazing. It's probably a little larger than you need, but it has USB Type-C PD so it will charge your Pixel just as fast as the stock charger.

I recently just took a couple trips and this charger was a lifesaver. One trip has a mishap with the hotel that ended with 4 dudes in one room...so outlets were scarce. This battery kept my Pixel XL and Zenwatch 3 charged all weekend and ended with 60 or 70% remaining.

You'll do fine in handheld mode. The only thing that gets slightly awkward is a few of the gyro/motion control puzzles in some of the shrines. For some of those, you have to tilt and twist the Switch so much that the screen ends up at a hard angle to even see it. But in a pinch, you could always take the joy-cons out and put them in the separate controller grip, flip out the kickstand on the switch, and play just that shrine with that configuration. I guarantee you'd want to go back to having the joy-cons attached, though, after finishing that shrine. Most of the gameplay I think is much better that way. Also, if you want to do marathon sessions (longer than 3 hours at once), something like this can be a great investment:

Gotcha. I guess since the joycons are separate things and the screen is the entire front, it seems like a glove would only cover the back and the narrow top and bottom of the system? I do use a screen protector but I have a hard time picturing a situation where I'd drop the system in a way that the glove would do any significant protecting. I'd be more worried about extra insulation causing heating issues especially since the thing can run pretty hot and hasn't been out long enough for any longterm issues to be picked up on.

A phone I think is different since that thing is going in and out of my hands and pockets pretty much 24/7. But like you said, to each their own, I get why you want it I just wouldn't consider it anywhere near necessary or required. But just as I cringe and am kind of shocked when I see someone using a phone without a protector, I guess you feel the same way about a Switch. No worries.

Agreed that most ordinary packs people have probably won't suffice. There was a guy with a Reddit thread comparing power packs, I used that as a base and checked out some cheaper alternatives to what he recommended. I found this pack which works fine for me, it charges about 9-12%/hour while playing Zelda at full brightness.

I've bought a couple of sets of the Anker adapters. Never had a problem. They have the Benson Leung seal of approval. He's the Google engineer that fried his Chromebook Pixel with a cheap USB-C cable and has been testing cables on Amazon ever since. I won't buy a cable he hasn't reviewed.

Had this one for 2 years and it still charges like a beast. At a minimum, I would recommend one with quick charging (they use Qualcomm's chip for it). And if I remember correctly, their battery cells are actually Samsung. The Samsung cells haven't had the issues some other manufacturers have.

Yup! So USB-PD is a "protocol" for higher power transmission, which uses the USB-C connector and cable, so the important thing is that the first step to confirming USB-PD is making sure it has a USB-C connector. AFAIK, USB deprecated USB-PD over any connector other than USB-C for clarity.

Anyway, the point is, yes, you should look for "USB-PD", "USB Power Delivery", or "Power Delivery" on the description or packaging. And then for the Switch, make sure it supports 9V, 12V, or 15V

The receiver was $10 and the charging pad was $23 so $33 total. (Minus the Torx T4 screwdriver & pry tool which I already had).

It's actually much easier than it sounds;

I followed this video to remove the back cover, stuck the receiver to the adhesive on the back cover of the phone and plugged it in. I used a small piece of packaging tape to hold the ribbon cable in the perfect spot (so it's not super long but long enough that I can unplug it if necessary). Then just snapped the covers back together and voila!

The only drawback I've noticed is that the back cover is very thin so it sort of "forms" to the contours of the receiver inside. If you look closely at the second picture, you can kind of see the outline of the receiver. It's a minor complaint but worth mentioning.

I am completely confused by AC Chargers. Watch for interference from your phone bluetooth, and if you have an iOS watch, that can cause issues too.

BUY the insurance from DJI. Day one, 5th flight in, the Spark started drifting in ATTI mode (google it!). Basically it was acting erratically, and I was flying around 5-7' off the ground, and it was headed into a street. I used the RTH (return to home) button, and it kept drifting, until it was under a large tree. Then, it rose up to the return to home height, chopping its way through the tree, until it did not, and crashed. may you have better luck!

Image wise, be aware that the Spark tends to blow out extreme highlights (surf foam, sand, etc.). The lack of RAW sucks, but you can always underexpose a bit. There is a AEB feature though that is super easy to enable, it basically takes 3 exposures (metered, + one stop, - one stop). Even if you don't merge the three, you will at least have your pick of the three.

For post work, on iOS I use SnapSeed the most. It basically works like the desktop NIK imaging suite works. Great program! (and I clean up stuff professionally) For Desktop post still work, I use Luminar & Aurora for HDR (and the NIK suite).

The Spark is a great first drone, you will have a blast! cheers.

I can second getting an Anker PowerCore. It depends what you're willing to spend and how you want to use it what you should get, but:

• The 13000 will get you probably 3.5ish charges.
  
• The 20100 will get you 5-6 charges. This is the one I have.
  
• If you want to spend an extra $20 on it, the 20100 USB-C version (the one /u/Kr0m100 has, I think) also has USB-PD for faster charging. If I hadn't got mine on sale for under $30, this is the one I'd have got.

On the new MacBook, you can't charge with a USB Type A to USB C cable. So those portable chargers don't work. I had to buy one of these for portable charging and go USB C -> USB C

These three are good travel power banks. With the required USB-C cables they all cost ~$35. The Anker is smallest/lightest, but will merely extend play time by a few hours. If you only need power for a day or two you would probably be better off with a USB charger for those batteries and a huge battery bank. Something like this would charge each of your devices up to three times.

Assuming you need to charge each one a full time every day with a solar panel you would need something like this and it would require between 3 hours and 9 hours in direct sunlight to provide enough power. The panel needs a clear day, to be pointing at the sun, and to be kept cool to provide enough power in 3 hours.

Try this one from Anker. It's a dual USB, 21W charger, and seems to have pretty good reviews. I own one, but haven't had the opportunity to field test it just yet. I might put in for some time off and take it camping soon to see how it performs.

You can find cheaper panels around, and they have a new panel (Nomad 7 Plus) that's apparently better. Just remember you need direct sunlight for about a day to charge a 3000mAh battery pack with a small 7W panel like the one I linked. A bigger 20W panel like this should be able to charge around 8000mAh in a day with good sunlight.

You are much better off buying your battery pack and panels separately - charge the battery pack during the day, and use the battery power overnight.

Yeah, they're nice. I picked up the 20100 because I have new carry-on luggage with USB ports built in. You use a battery pack inside the luggage to power those ports. I know, crazy.

Assuming you have a sp3 then your battery only has 5500 mahs, case you own a sp4 then you have a downgraded 5000 mahs battery.

With 20ah power bank you can fully change your surface almost 4 times(edit:2 times because surface's battery has 2 times the voltage ), so you see this amount of power is mostly suited for a very few use cases like camping or hitchhiking, this directly effects the price through the basic rule of supply and demand making the price look almost predatory compared to normal capacity power banks.

The seller lists the current at 12v as low as 0.5amps but he also lists the max output at 60watts so this makes no sense, you should ask him for a details on the exact output with 6 batteries at 12v.

If he insists that the amperage is that low then look for a similar product, or make your own with the help of a quality buck/constant regulator, just make sure your cells are protected if you going for the diy route

Surface takes 12volts, and has a garbage standard charger at 35 watts that struggles to charge the device unless its turned off so the minimum amps it can take is 2.5.

It also has an option to upgrade to an 70 watt charger so its sure that it can take up to 5 amps.


edit: seller said the power bank case only supports 11w output, that means you gotta make your own case or find a better one.

I've got a Respironics System One. I have this unit, which is much cheaper than a purpose-built one. I've actually taken it backcountry camping, and frequently take it for camping on the water on my sailboat.

It's definitely good for two nights for me, but my pressure setting is a bit lower than yours. You will not be able to use a humidifier other than in just passive mode (heat / humidity off but tank full), humidifiers draw a lot of current.

My unit (and probably yours) is 12v DC, 10A (can get this info off your 110v AC power brick) and one of the generic laptop adapters that came with my battery pack worked just fine.

As long as you're willing to do a little homework you can avoid one of those $300-$600 "travel battery packs" that you see on e.g. CPAP.com, which as far as I can tell are just a generic battery pack unit identical to the one I have, rebadged and "certified".

I gather ResMed and some others have oddball voltages (18v, IIRC) so finding a battery back that supports that is a bit more rare. Most of the units like the one I have do 6, 9, and 12 volt, which is more typical.

Another route you can go is a jump starter pack like you find at e.g. Harbor Freight, and a 12v cigarette lighter adapter specific to your unit, which you can find on Amazon.

One thing I would avoid is a 110v AC inverter, these are lossy and so you waste a lot of battery hours due to the conversion. I found an inverter on my sailboat gave me about half the working time for my CPAP than I got with a 12v DC adapter.

One other note (and this is pretty common with things like refrigerators and air conditioners as well), I found that my unit had an initial "starting" amperage draw that was higher than rated if I turned it on without the mask actually on my face. This caused the battery to shut off and the unit to turn off, I'm guessing the fan runs harder when it doesn't have any pressure to work against.

I finally figured out not to turn it on until I put the mask on and the battery pack works fine and has served well on several trips.

If you have any other questions feel free to DM me. Obviously this is a long read and you need to know what you're doing, but a little bit of research saved me $500 off a "special" CPAP battery pack, and my unit is light enough to backpack with to boot.

No. The mighty requires 12 V @ 3 A (or 3,000 mAh) to charge, so you would need a 3 A source. That cable is only rated for 750 mAh output as it's got a step up converter in it.

You're trying to charge from 5v usb and stepping it up, that's not going to work. You need a direct 12v line, so use a laptop external battery like https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00HFMUBYG/ that has a 12v >3a output.

edit: Just buying a cable will not work, you won't get the amps required from usb because the figure is volts multiplied by amps, if you want to use 5v you'll need a magical USB port that outputs like 10a (which does not exist). Ex: 110v @ 5amp is [about, because I know someone's going to go "OMG it's not exactly the same!] the same energy as 220v @ 2.5a. You're lowering the voltage so you need to increase the amps to a point where USB simply does not provide that much and you'll never charge a mighty from a USB port unless you want to rig something together where you have say a couple 18650 batteries hooked directly but anything else being plugged into it will be fried instantly so that's not something you, or anyone, should ever build.

These Micro USB to USB-C Adapters are really damn handy. You can keep all your cables+chargers and still use them as Micro USB when needed.

Well at work I have to use it frequently. I am constantly taking pictures of equipment and sourcing part replacements in the field and looking up PDFs of manuals for field troubleshooting along with phone calls. My work usage is about 4 hours screen on time at a minimum and then about 2-4 hours after work. My average lte data consumption is about 12 gbs a month. I was on the market for a USB-C portable charger as well, but I settled for a non USB-C charger.

I do have to carry around a USB A-C cable, but it hasn't been too big of a deal. And this charger does fast charge my 5X, which was the main thing I was looking for in a portable charger. I've been able to get somewhere between 2-3 full charges of my 5X before needing to recharge the charger.

Also, if you use the ceiling things, id recommend cutting a couple of "stoppers" out of cardboard, these helped me A LOT because from time to time the hooks would join up, or change places and make it unconfortable, these "limits" fixed that by limiting where the hook movements.

It's difficult to say right, because the thing about skyrim and modding is that everything can be tuned to personal taste.

So what I would say, is that I would personally really would look into "Natural Locomotion" on Steam and the VR QuickBelt tool https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/16467.

They are tricky to setup but definetely worth it once you get it just right. Natural locomotion worked really well once I got it to be done by using the trackpad instead of the grip buttons.

Also, not technically a game mod, but if you can setup the following correctly, then it adds A LOT to immersion as you don't worry anymore about that pesky cable on the floor and you can rotate physically:

I'm also planning on setting up voice attack to press Z on shouting a phrase, like if I shout "Fuck" it'll shout one word by holding z for half a second, "Fuck you" would shout two words and "Fuck off" would shout all three.

As for other mods, I would highly suggest, as tedious as it sounds, to search on nexus for mods by category, then sorting by endorsement, and really looking as to what they add and whether or not that entices you, and then grab it!

How much do you want to spend on a battery and how long do you need it to last?

I have a Ravpower 10000 PD battery and I'm pretty happy with it. A 10000mAh battery will give you an additional 5 hours of playtime on an original Switch.

The largest battery you would be allowed to take on a plane is a 26800mAh battery. That will give you an additional 12 hours of playtime.

Technically TSA requires the battery to be under 100 watt hours, not under 26800mAh. Usually it's going to be 26800mAh. One of the nice thing about RAVpower is that they label their power banks with their watt hours which makes it much easier to get through security. If they question the battery you can just point at the watt hours. The 26800mAh battery is labeled as 26800mAh/99.16Wh.

Aukey and Anker also make good batteries. Anker is considered the top tier.

Couple other things to note

• You are only allowed one battery bank, and that battery has to be stored in your carry on baggage. So it's just the one battery bank for the whole trip.
  
  
• Whatever battery you get it either needs to charge at 5v3a or have USB C power delivery at 5v3a\9v2a or above. Anything slower than 5v3a and the Switch will use power faster than the battery is providing it. It'll still extend your playtime because it's replacing used power, but you won't maintain or gain charge.
  
  
• USB cables should be USB-IF certified. If using a USB A (rectangle end) to USB C (oval end) it should have a 56k ohm resister in it. The cable that comes with the Pro Controller fits this, and so do Amazon Basics cables.

This RavPower 26,800 is the one I use and it has an offer that it's on sale for $64.99....for the price it's by far the best one IMO.

Here is what to look for: It has to support USB PD. It has to have a high output wattage (30W is good, the wall charger that comes with the Pixelbook is 45W). Multiply the Volts x Amps to get the Watts -- this battery will do 15V at 2A or 20V at 1.5A.

Get the RavPower 26,800mAh especially for the PD type C, the one you linked. If you got a Google 18w Type C wall charger like the Google Pixel XL uses it can recharge it fully in 4.5 hours which is extremely fast compared to normally 12-14 hours. I own both and it works perfectly, still charges fast while Zelda full brightness.

So, why is this better than this one? This is also USB-C PD and cheaper.

Note that Amazon carries a variety of similar products. It works fairly well but I'd add some caveats. I have a drop-ceiling in my playspace so I was able to use string to affix the mechanism and didn't have to use the adhesive (which is reportedly very strong to the point of pulling off paint upon removal). You still have to be careful with a system like this because if you're swinging/punching with your arms, you can easily connect with a hanging cable.

I'm not sure if I really recommend it, but I don't regret getting it. I don't always use it, but when I do it has been useful.

The thing applies to the ceiling with a very strong kind of sticky glue and applies to any surface (I thought it wouldn't apply to mine, since it's all rough, but it holds on fine). Then you can put that black part through the hook applied to the ceiling, which then has a retractable cable in it. Connect the black clip to the cable and put your vr cables through the black clip and you're done. So the only hing that is kind of hard/impossible to remove is the sticky part with the hook in it. The rest can be plug-and-play removed.

I ordered some Widmovr plano (non-prescription) lenses to protect the built in ones. These have been great and they come with snap on/off protectors as well.

I purchased the Anker PowerCore 10000 PD power bank and it has been good so far and doubles as a nice weight on the back of the headset where I strapped it with some velcro.

I also bought some Mamut grips that I much prefer over the stock controller straps.

Outside of that the only other things I've picked up are an Xbox One controller for sideloaded content and a case.

Personally if there was any doubt about a product that will power your entertainment device on a trip, I'd get a highly recommended portable battery bank instead. The MixPre-3 isn't quite so aggressive but USB C is a standard that is all over the place with regard to data speeds and power carried. The MixPre recorders are USB 2.0 so power is the real concern and not speed.

Edit: The reason the cables are so stiff is the wires have to be beefy to carry that much power without overheating and failing. Most USB A ports and chargers only carry 10-12 watts. The full USB C spec goes to 100. Everything should fall back to the lowest common safe value if it all works. If you need flexible, then you will have to get shorter cables.

Edit2: I just plugged the supplied USB C to dual USB A cable into a mid-2010 MBP and plugged in my MixPre-6. I got a green battery indicator with two and one USB A connector attached and the mics all responded correctly. I didn't actually record as it was inconvenient.

I had a cheap generic USB A to C cable from a few years ago I had and it produced an amber battery display indicating lower power mode and only the first two preamps were functioning as ex[ected. I pack a very similar kit, the same luggage in fact. Here's how my kit has evolved.

• I use a Kriega US-20 as a tail bag. This carries my clothes and acts as my general bullshit spot. It's never more than half full. I put it as far forward on the back of my bike as I can so I can use it as a backrest on longer transits.
  
• I strap a Half Dome 2+ immediately behind the Kriega. It's seriously tiny and super easy to setup.
  
• I cut down some small trash cans from the dollar store to create semi-hard liners for the soft luggage. The whole bag is less prone to deforming and is easier to mount like this. As an added bonus, you can pull everything out of a pannier at once by just grabbing the liner.
  
• This is purely personal, but I hate wearing a backpack when I ride. I use a very small, magnetic tank bag for misc day needs like water and snacks. The OP derided batteries as heavy but my 20k mAh battery worked well for me.
  
  A couple things I highly recommend from OP's kit:
  
  
• Rokstraps are worth every penny. He contrasted them with static straps, but they shine in comparison to cheap bungie nets even more. They don't wear out randomly and fail. Don't fuck with anything else.
  
• Just get a cheap synthetic sleeping bag and compress the shit out of it. Use the several hundred dollars you saved to take a longer, cooler trip.
  
• The stove he recommend is great, they do everything you need.

Ah gotcha, but in the case like the Choetech where the charger only has one C port and no A ports, the QC branding should be a non issue?

The thing is a brick, almost a pound. But it has quick charge input, meaning if you stop for a meal somewhere you can top off a lot more than if you were slow charging, and it was enough for me to charge my Nexus 6 five times while using it every day for pictures, videos, blogging, and Guthook.

It looks like there's a new 10kmAh version, which might be even more appealing if the weight of the 20k is too much. QC3 input and output, optional USB-C input... I don't know about the new model, but the big one that I took last year took a beating and still works.

I agree with everyone else so far. The most important things are screen protector, micro SD card, and a carrying case.

But if you're looking for something a little more exciting, here's a list of the things I also recommend:

Portable Charger: You'll need one that has enough power to charge the Switch. Here's two that I have found work well. The Anker charger is significantly more expensive than the RAVPower, and neither are really cheap, but you'll get a lot of use out of it, and they can work for other electronic devices as well.

Portable Stand: The Switch's kickstand is pretty bad for tabletop mode. It's not adjustable and you cannot charge at the same time. Getting a portable stand fixes both of these problems. One like this is my personal favorite portable stand. You get more viewing angles than the plastic folding ones and you can use this with multiple devices as well. However, the Hori one or one similar to that works perfectly fine as well.

Pro Controller or Extra Joy Cons: Depends on your preference. I'd go with the Pro Controller if you're planning on playing mostly single player games. The extra set of Joy Cons are nice for multiplayer though as it allows 2 people to play with full controllers, or 4 people to play with a single joy con (aka Mario Kart).

If you go with the extra Joy Cons, I'd also suggest Joy Con Grips. While they might not look the best, it is a significant upgrade to holding the Joy Cons by themselves. They work perfectly fine for multiplayer Mario Kart.

I have the amFilm tempered glass screen protector on mine and I really like it. I was hesitant about a screen protector at first because I normally don't put them on my devices, but I can hardly even tell that this one is on my Switch. No issues with glare that I've noticed either, and it's usually <= $10. (And that comes with 2, in case you mess up or wanna give one to a friend)

I don't have a battery pack for it, but I've been looking into them for a buddy of mine who is going on a trip from the US to the UK in a few months. The one I've been really thinking about is the RAVPower 20100 . It's on the more expensive end (~$50) but it is compatible with the Switch and will charge it ~3-4 times and only takes 4-5 hours to recharge the power bank.

As for the case I got one at Toys R Us last summer for about $20 and it has been fine. It's got some padding to protect the screen, and has these little plastic cases that can hold like 3 games and an SD card each I think... It doesn't have a ton of storage space, but it works. It depends on how much you want to put in there, but you definitely want some inside padded layer that lays on top of the screen so that nothing you put in there will put too much pressure on there.

Most smartwatches have rather rudimentary modems capable of ~3G speeds. You won't be doing any work off of that. Not to mention, smartwatches don't have the greatest WiFi interfaces either.

I'd avoid that Xiaomi battery as it doesn't list USB-PD anywhere on the official spec sheet. Sure, it might charge your Surface but you definitely want a battery that operates within the official PD spec to protect from burnouts and ensure maximum charge rate (PD handshake). When you search for Xiaomi on the USB.org page, it looks like they've only certified one of their products, a wall charger. I'm aware the database often misses recently certified devices... but it looks like Xiaomi is operating loosely and avoiding the certification costs for their products. Considering the premium cost of Surface devices, there's no chance I'd risk using anything that lacks the USB-PD language in their official spec-sheet, with a breakout of the supported PD outputs/handshakes.

Yes I see that the battery has PD listed on a few of the Amazon country sites.... but it looks way too shifty for my comfort. Fyi for PD to function correctly, the spec sheet needs to lists more than the total output. It needs to list which fixed voltage outputs actually support the USB-PD handshake. Although a battery might list a total output of 45w, it might only be able to pass the PD handshake at 7.5w, which would be far insufficient for any Surface device.

Start with games rated as Comfort or Comfortable. I'd avoid SkyrimVR for a bit until you get more used to VR. SkyrimVR is a bit janky and is more likely to induce nausea, especially if it has a hard time maintaining 80fps, which is likely (and even moreso with mods.) The game isn't a very good showcase or introduction to VR, as it was shoehorned in and not fully optimized for VR.

If you experience motion sickness or nausea, don't force it and take a break. Not everyone experiences this, but those that do will find the feeling goes away with more use. Ginger tablets or gums can help alleviate this.

It came with pretty much everything I needed. The seller has fast and good communication as well when I requested additional hardware anchors. Highly recommend. If I'm not mistaken, it was such a problem that Amazon had to start policing the cables to make sure only standards compliant cables were being sold.

I highly recommend cables made by Anker. I've been buying them like crazy because as much as I like USB-C, it's a pain in the ass having the only USB-C device among your friends and family, and I'm constantly finding myself in a situation where I can't just borrow someone's charger for some extra juice.

I know this horse has been beat dead, but after scouring different threads and articles I'm still a little confused. For context, I just ordered myself a Pixel XL tonight (hype!) and in preparation I've been researching charging solutions. I'm aware of the amazing list Nathan K. and Venson Leung have for different cables, however I'm not 100% on what I'm looking out for. What am I looking for in power adapters? I know the pixel xl is "rated for 18w" charging, but is that the max before I damage something or maximum efficiency? Am I only worried about wattage? (Of course, P=IV. I know the basics but I know it can get complicated) I know the cable is equally important, but what about adapters? I have a whole bunch of (stock) Samsung charging adapters and cables (5V/2A - Micro USB) lying around and was hoping I could use a MicroUSB to USB-C adapter like this to make use of them. Is this feasible?

Yeah, I just use my USB A to C cable when I need to connect to my PC. It helps to have a few adapters laying around until USB C becomes more common.

Oddly enough, the mobo USB C port works flawlessly with my Xiaomi Piston 3 earbuds + USB C to 3.5 mm dongle.

Last year I bought an Anker 10,000mAh battery bank worked for about 3 charges on my S7 with ageing battery, today I get maybe 2 charges on a Note9. I was able to get a good 10+ days total usage out of my phone with recharges as needed. Make sure to turn on airplane mode and battery saver mode, turn off bluetooth, wifi, NFC, unused applications, etc , and keep the phone switched off at night. I was using my phone frequently to take pictures, or check GPS but not much else. Obviously YMMV

The I always was a little turned off by the default foam covers, mainly because they held sweat and could get hairs stuck in them. I made the decision to buy the 6mm VR cover pads, and my quality of life has surprisingly gone up immensely. They done suck up moisture, catch hairs, and to me feel better. The pads do give you a slightly greater field of view, great enough in face, that depending on where your eyes look you can see the edge of the screen thirds your nose. Usually you can't and that might sound annoying but really it's not a problem. Overall I am more emerged by the FOV. Only other thing I 'd recommend considering with these is they are worse for people with glasses as they leave less space for them. The original weren't perfect either but I wouldn't attempt glasses with these.

Also, these are machine washable unlike the original vive covers, but overall they are cleaner in general even without that.

The clear case from Oneplus does not really protect the top or the bottom of the phone. It just protects the back and the side and it's slippery as hell.

I'm using the tempered glass protector from Orzly and it has a good oleophobic coating, seems much better than the screen on its own. Clarity is excellent and I've noticed no more glare than was present on the screen itself. I'd highly recommend it.

I did. Very pleased with the move. The extra battery life is a huge plus for me. Size is a little daunting at first but you get used to it. After using it for a couple weeks, the Nexus 5 seems tiny in comparison.

I used to use the unicorn beetle pro. The screen protector is a cheap piece of plastic which didn't sit flat on the screen and scratched easily. I actually just ripped the plastic off and used tempered glass. It is quite durable. It is a bit thicker than most cases and should provide ample protection. As for taking it off an on, it's a bit annoying, but should only take like 10-20 seconds. I'm not sure if it's from me putting my case on and taking it off, but I did notice some of the paint chipping away on the edges where the case would rub up against when putting on or taking off the case. I had the metal plate between the case and the phone. The case was a bit too thick, which made the magnetic mount a bit useless. I ended up switching to the Unicorn Beetle Slim and don't look back. The magnetic car mount works perfectly, and I still feel comfortable with the level of protection it provides.

Try a magnetic phone mount - no-fuss, instant connection. That way you keep your directions close to eye level as you drive drop to drop.

Personally I use a vent mount that is magnetic. I just have the metal plate that comes with it stuck in between the rubber and plastic layers of my otter box.

Both of the products that you mentioned look over-priced and over-specified.

If you limit yourself to 5V USB I recommend a 75 watt-hour battery ($37) for its dual inputs; it charges twice as fast as a normal battery. That should be sufficient to charge two cell phones, a small lamp ($4) and a fan ($17). You can charge the battery from a wall outlet, with a cigarette lighter USB adapter ($10), or with a small solar panel ($100).

You might prefer a Luci light ($15) to the lamp mentioned above; it charges itself from the sun and won't consume any of your battery capacity.

If you need 12 volts, I recommend a 185 watt-hour battery ($130), which will also charge a laptop computer. It recharges from a wall outlet, or you can use a 150 watt inverter ($24) from your cigarette lighter.

Weight is 2.77lbs. It has 12v and 20v barrel connector outputs, as well as USB 1.2A and 2.5A outputs. I have to upconvert the 5v output of the solar panel to 12v in order to properly charge the battery. The only drawback to this setup, really, is that nothing is Anderson Powerpole - it's pretty much all barrel type power connectors or USB...so it took a deep dive into specs to get everything to play together.

Separately, I have a second-line of AA NiMH eneloop pro batteries that can run the radio and tuner in a pinch, if necessary...and Goal Zero Nomad chargers and a smaller solar panel for them, as well.

I might almost prefer a flashlight that runs on standard AA/AAA batteries in that situation. OP sounds like he's pretty remote, and I'm not sure he could reliably source CR123s without paying an arm and a dick for shipping, and I'd feel kind of sketchy about relying on rechargeables in an area with regular power failures, unless I have a generator or a solar panel.

I bought this after doing some research. In full sunlight it will charge my portable battery like it was plugged into a wall. But just be aware that solar chargers need solid sunlight to work well. You would probably be better off buying an EasyAcc 26000 mah portable battery which will be able to charge your phone for a week easily.

Little tip, these can be found at Princess Auto (not name brand) for MUCH cheaper. I have a few small hand-cases that I got for around $25.00.

On a side note, I got a solar panel for camping which I use to charge my battery packs, which then go on and charge my 18650's. Its super handy to not have to worry about running out of battery life while your out in the boonies!

I've got a Mophie case that works fine that was gifted to me but, if you're not dead set on a battery case, I'd recommend a portable battery pack instead. You'll get better value for your money than using a case.

You're going to have a hard time getting smaller. If your radio has a battery that can be used to charge your phone in an emergency, it could take a week or more to charge that battery with the tiny solar panel, and hours of cranking. Those radios can run on very low current. Your cell phone takes a ton of current.

Something like this solar charger that folds flat is about the best you can do to get small and actually charge devices. You can get one that's lighter with fewer panels, but it'll increase charge time by a factor of the area lost.

That said, if you're willing to let the solar panel charge all day in direct sunlight, something like this battery pack could charge your phone, probably around 2/3 full during a full sunny day. The battery is huge, and can charge your phone 3x or so, so it is a decent option if you're planning on charging from mains power every few days, but want a backup in an emergency.

That pack is similar in size to many phones (and thicker), but you can absolutely get smaller packs, usually without the solar panels. I prefer packs without tiny solar panels that I view as gimmicky (I'd rather have high quality panels and high quality batteries that I can mix and match) but if you're looking to reduce volume and weight, they might suit you.

I recommend Anker brand. They're not remotely the only good brand out there, but I've bought around a dozen of their products and used some of them to failure, and I've never once seen signs of cheap design like I often find when (for example) other products just fall apart after a few weeks of heavy use.

You'll need something like one of these (first google result, not promoting that specific one). But the tablet normally outputs power, so you also need a kernel that is patched to reverse that. I run Glitch kernel and it claims to have the support. I've never tried it, but I do have all the necessary equipment laying around...

Correct, a powered USB Hub should work without the physical power mod.

Most people go on to mod the system with BleemSync v1.1+ firmware, which enables the rear power port as an OTG USB port after which you can use an OTG adapter to plug the flash drive and power into the rear port, giving you full use of the two front ports.

If you have some flash drives around, particularly some older USB2.0 drives, you may be able to install the BleemSync v1.1+ firmware without needing to do the power mod or needing a powered USB hub. After that all you'll need is a OTG adapter like this one or an OTG USB hub like this one.

So far I've liked these the best, but these have an angle that might come in handy in some uses. Oh, and this one lets you charge while running devices off the OTG. Very handy for using an ethernet cable on the Shield to get 1080p/60fps in console mode.

OTG uses a plug like this one to allow you to connect your thumb drive in line with the power cord that plugs in the back of the PSC. The camera technically uses a 7.2v battery even tho the bottom of the camera says it accepts 8.4v. I'm not sure why there is a discrepancy.

But anyways, wireless Qi charging is slower than USB charging, but the great advantage is that if you have a few Qi chargers located around you, you just put your phone down and it starts to charge. The whole idea is to constantly be topping up your battery, not waiting for the battery to hit a critical level and then charging. No messing around with microUSB ports and aligning them properly.

I personally use the official Nexus charger, which has magnets that help to stick your phone to the charger. It's great, but a bit costly:

I use this adapter between a TPU case and the phone and charge with this pad at home and this dock at work. The adapter and the pad used at home are great. The work dock buzzes so I don't recommend it. They will get hot if you're using your phone while charging but otherwise I've had no issues.

so just to give an update incase anyone else finds this post. I didn't have luck with the charger unfortunately. I got this guy. it works fine when the case is off but damn.. taking the case on and off is just as much work as plugging it in with the cord. bummer city.

I like the CHOE wireless chargers around the house for the convenience factor. With the battery life on the G2, I've yet to need to charge up quickly like all of my previous phones.

With my Qi charger [(Choetech)] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C40OG22?ie=UTF8&at=&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links ) along with the 2.0A wall plug they sell from about 20% it takes about 4 hours to get to 100% and the max temp it rises to is right around 100°F.

Comparatively, a 1.0A 5V Samsung wall plug I have takes about 4.5 hours to charge 20% to 100%. But its also a lot cooler, I believe it doesn't really go over 85°F

Edit3: After reading the link /u/sightl3ss provided, the with Choetech Qi Charger I use, I have not experienced any of the battery capacity discrepancies. It goes 100%-5% just fine. Although I cannot definitively say that 15%-0% is normal as I usually charge somewhere between 15%-20% and rarely let it get to 5%

I used this PowerBot Charging Pad and this other 3rd party pad both of which were able to charge my friend's Nexus 5 perfectly fine.

The two coils I used were this blue one for the S5 and this blue one for the Note 3. I checked the voltages that the coils were pulling and they were good, but I did not check the current.

My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think my moto skip still worked with the coil installed.

It can definitely be done. Just a matter of finding a powered USB OTG cable.

Getting OTG to work on the nexus 4 is a ball ache. However it is possible. I got my xbox controller to work with it and it read my USB drives.

Used AK Kernal, a USB Y OTG cable and an app called synapse. This was on 5.0.1 stock.

I use these and they work great, even with a hub and multiple devices plugged in.

OTG support is device specific. If your device supports OTG but can't supply the keyboard with enough power, then they make cables like this one that allows you to inject power, or you can make your own. However if your device doesn't support OTG then you're out of luck.

I use my tablet often as a media device on my TV and it works well. Hmm, that's a very interesting device. Note that I'm not an Android phone user, and I have no first-hand knowledge of the OTG protocol, but I see no reason why that device wouldn't work. It does a lot more than just interface USB to your phone, but at that low price point, there's no harm in getting it to see how it works.

If it were me, I would only buy an adapter that can be powered externally. When using a USB mic with a phone, you don't want to worry about how long your battery will last while driving both devices. You'd want to research this adapter to see if it can be powered, either via USB or other dedicated power supply.

It allows me to charge the tablet while using the otg functions.

This is the micro USB adapter that I'm using and the tablet will still charge, but will charge slower. One thing I've noticed is that if I'm playing graphic intensive games such as Borderlands the Presequel or the Talos Principle, the battery will slowly drain even when it's plugged in, but won't die if it gets to 0%.

This is the ethernet adapter I'm using. As for connection speeds, I'm on 5ghz wifi when not connected to ethernet. I've ran speed tests and they're about the same, although I get much better latency when I'm connected via ethernet. In fact, the only reason I got the adapter was for a better GeForce Now experience.
