5 - 10 -15 - 20: The Pitchfork Edition

5 - Kanye West - The Life of a Graduated Heartbreak
We were quite mature at a young age, listening only to this long lost Yeezus album. And by "long lost" we mean "what we formulated in our minds how Kanye should sound." It doesn't exist. Don't try and find it. It was our first BNM label.

10 - Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time
Yes, we admit it. We totally listened to this when we were kids. But the magazine only. We didn't listen to any of the actual SONGS. That would be ridiculous. We simply put the magazine on our record player and hit play.

15 - Arcade Fire - Funeral
Because why not?

20 - Taylor Swift - Red
We just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It was a mistake. Don't stop reading our reviews because of it. Don't worry. We still are the hitmakers of the hipster world. You know you need us. We'll still be here everyday with our sesquipedalian lexicon and metaphors that fall apart if you really think about them. We'll continue to describe sounds with words like "tectonic" and "panoramic" and "wounded" and "dusty." It's just...we need some T-Swizzle every now and then in our lives too.

25 - Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions of Radiohead
We only listen to Radiohead in its purest form: unadulterated kids music. What better way to put your baby or you asleep? Besides listening to an actual Radiohead album. But really, Thom Yorke wishes he could be this soothing with his voice.

30 - The Pixies? Or, uh, Nick Cave? Oh wait, Dinosaur Jr. Uh... Animal Collective? Wait they've been around how long now? Since 2003? Really? What artist has only released one single EP? That's who we listen to now
We're still relevant.

Here it is on Amazon.

And no, my kid will not be a Kanye stan.

It wasn't just for the commercial. There's a series of albums that do lullaby versions of rock groups. Here's this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IFSFYA

My friend showed me this soon after I got my first Radiohead album. It was my introduction to so many of their songs!

I've always found that covers of Radiohead in different genres are really illuminating. Stripping away all of that Radiohead weirdness, you're always left with a brilliant melody. See also John Mayer's cover of Kid A and OK Computer lullabies.

You don't already own the Rockabye Baby Album?

u/damnyoureloud · 5 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I couldn't be more jealous. I would love to see this band perform live.

The vinyl has been on my WL since 5/24. You can find it on the first page of my "Vinyl" wish list.

Thanks so much for the contest and your generosity. Three people are going to be listening to some awesome music soon, thanks to you!

> what decent secular music to give the little man a fighting chance do the atheistic parents of wee ones sing?

Religious songs make up a very small portion of children's music today. How many of the nursery rhyme songs on this 50 track collection are religious? And that's not even touching on newer indie artists who sing original songs.

Puff the Magic Dragon, Renee and Jeremy's lullabies, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Baby Beluga. I made a lullaby channel on Pandora that introduced a few new ones to me.

Elizabeth Mitchell has some beautiful songs, as well as this compilation. (Hint: CDs can be checked out at your local library to test-drive.)

There's a full album. Someone posted a pic of it here, titled,

>"If I ever have a kid he's gonna get a good start"

or something like that.
I cant find the post right now but Here is the Amazon page

  1. this bed just looks so damn comfortable. Like you could just fall into it.

  2. graham crackers and milk are so tasty and great for a midnight snack!

  3. these adorable sleeping cat pajamas even have matching slippers.

  4. I personally prefer the dark, but this looks like a beautiful night light to fall asleep to, especially for anyone who likes the ocean.

  5. if the baby shusher doesn't work, play the baby some 80's music

“She used to say she could taste sleep and that it was as delicious as a BLT on fresh French bread.”

    Thanks for the contest!

Assuming it's her first kid, there's a very good chance that the actual birth will be 1-2 weeks after the official due date.

Also, congrats!

I don't have any kiddos, but as an almost twenty year old woman whose favourite singer is ALSO Taylor Swift, I just wanted to let you know she has great taste. :)

Did you know that this CD exists?!

We used a calming nature sounds DVD. It was wonderful. Like this: https://www.amazon.com/Nature-Sounds-Babies-Ambiance-Relaxation/dp/B00X21TU3C

I prefer quiet if I'm trying to sleep but this caught my eye: https://www.amazon.com/Rockabye-Lullaby-Renditions-David-Bowie/dp/B00J6HDXO8

Have you seen this before? I would have bought it if it had more Saint. Anger but since it didn't I figured the next best thing would be to just make my own that way I can make it less wimpy.

This makes me want to listen to the Rock-a-bye Baby Lullaby version of Metallica's 'the thing that should not be'. and make cute mobiles out of doll heads. Simply Darling.

Check out the Rockabye Baby! album. They did music-boxy arrangements of some of their classics. Love the No Surprises one especially.

u/wenchers13 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

slapshot this cause its awesome!

Thanks for the contest. Hope your day gets better!

u/sparks1988 · 1 pointr/ToolBand

My wife didn't like them at first. I started with the radio songs and they didn't really click with her until I took her to a TOOL show. Now she's been to the last 5 or 6 shows that I've been to. She likes them so much that she plays the rockabye lullabies to her 5th grade class (shes a teacher). My hope is she's secretly getting the next generation of tool fans hooked.
