>Kids Rap Radio, the brainchild of Beyoncé's dad, may sound like a concept tailor-made to drive the big folks mad, but it has as much in common with the sometimes-criticized Kidz Bop series as Bow Wow does with Barry Manilow. Yes, the hip-hop hits are scrubbed clean, same as the pop and rock numbers on the better-known series. But no, the originals aren't mangled entirely. Instead of spiraling down the drain with the rinsed-off raunch, the spirit of these songs--from the "dirty south" slinkiness of Chingy's "Right Thur" to the urban 'tude of Busta Rhymes "Touch It"--remains. Case in point is "Lil' Bit," the R-rated 50 Cent original: "At dinnertime I try to get my eat on," spits one of the project's two hyper-talented 8-year-old emcees. "But I can't have dessert till my peas gone." It's cleaned-up. It's clever. And best of all, it has a sense of humor. Any hip-hop-loving parent would do well to get up off that thing and grab themselves a copy. --Tammy La Gorce

I’m sure all these songs are on YouTube or whatever music streaming app you have as well. They crack me up b/c they’re so...sassy. Solange Knowles sings one of them.

Edit: Solange sings a LOT of them.

Ah, we have Raffi, but we also have stuff like Dog Train and Philadelphia Chickens. Music by Sandra Boyton, often employing celebrity talents for the songs. A few favorites are Snuggle Puppy, Boring Song, I Need A Nap (with Weird All & Kate Winslet), BusyBusyBusy, Dragonfire, Pig Island

You should really check out "They Might Be Giants" as well. :) They've started making children's music a few years ago. It may take a few listens for the songs to grow on you, but they are awesome. :)

The No! album has got some great songs, favs are Fibber Island, Violin, I Am Not Your Broom, The House At The Top Of The Tree

Be sure to peruse the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" section for some good ideas of similar whimsical modern kids music.

We like almost all the songs from Here Come The 123s quite a bit. Funny, whimsical music videos as well. Some of my daughter's long time favorites are One Everything, Triops Has Three Eyes, High Five, Seven, Hotdog. I like "Apartment Four" quite a bit.

All TMBG Childrens Music

Also check out the For The Kids albums. Great stuff. I've Got To Be Clean is a fav as well as La La La Lemon by Bare Naked Ladies.

And finally, Singin' In The Bathtub by John Lithgow. Very funny, silly and cheerful. :)

Hope this helps. :)

This is pretty heavy in my rotation these days.

I mostly reserve it for heavy leg and back days because it's so intense.

This Bob the Builder cassette from 2002 has Crocodile Rock on it.

you should check out the album. its by the Gothic Archies (a.k.a Stephen Merrit; a.k.a the magnetic fields; a.k.a the future bible heroes; a.k.a. the sixths)

5 month old comment. How did you end up here britishben? I didn't realise that Handler was on other Magnetic Fields albums. Anyway the album based off the books is called The Gothic Archies which is also the name of the band. The songs started as post scripts to the audio books. When the last book came out they released them all on one album.

Here's the Amazon link.

I hope it isn't presumptious of me to give you the UK Amazon link. Have a good day.

Not a toy, but this CD is the epitome of annoying kids' music. The main singer sounds like she's exuberantly off her rocker and the kids who sing on it are oh so irritating. I don't want my kid imitating a kid who sings that the wheels on the bus are "wound and wound" aarrrgh pulls hair out getting angry just thinking about it...

ugggghhhhh just listen to a sample

Edit: maybe it doesn't have previews (prelistens?) Not showing up on my phone, anyway. Just imagine a cartoonishly overzealous caffeinated kindergarten teacher singing all of the "classics"

The mom will already have a good selection of board books, I'm willing to bet. Most parents are happy to have something quiet to do with baby, and its okay if pages get torn - that's what tape is for. Teaching a child how to handle books early means you don't have to live through the destructive paper-tearing phase. I nannied for nearly 20 years; its all about warping their defenseless little minds with civilizing pre-sets. :)

Another choice is a CD or a book combo -- John Lithgow did one of the best, I've gifted this a dozen times, its a pick-me-up big band thing. https://www.amazon.com/Singin-Bathtub-John-Lithgow/dp/B00000I8A3#customerReviews

This has some wicked talent on every song, big name actors with really interesting voices, and the lyrics are by Boynton, so any kid with ears is going to be able to sing them within minutes. I know all these songs. There's a lot of style variety and there are chattering aardvarks, which is always a nice touch. https://www.amazon.com/Philadelphia-Chickens-Sandra-Boynton/dp/B0001ADB6Y/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=children+boynton&qid=1555922081&refinements=p_n_binding_browse-bin%3A387645011&rnid=387643011&s=music&sr=1-3#customerReviews

Lithgow did one of my favorite albums.

"Gnu song" is definitely the best.
