Gap's "Basic Bastard 2017":

Sure! Obviously everyone has their own tastes, so some people may disagree, but here are some classic "must-haves".

Those are pretty much the standards they will recommend to you over at /r/malefashionadvice. Check out that sub for a thousand more recommendations!

u/Gluestick05 · 65 pointsr/AskWomen

I just got an underwired sports bra in my real size and holy shit it's like angels are holding up my boobs. Even Mr. Gluestick was surprised by its power--"what are those things doing all the way up here?!" were his exact words.

u/imaginaryideals · 53 pointsr/ABraThatFits

You should check the sidebar and measure yourself with the ABTF calculator. I don't know what kind of measuring guide JCPenney's provides, but a lot of mainstream stores use the +4 method, which is more likely to give you an uncomfortable bra size.

I noticed in another comment of yours that you mention wires poking out of your bras from stress. When I had this happen with my old bras, it was before I started wearing my correct size. Since switching from 34C to 30E/F, I haven't had similar issues.

If you have a Nordstrom Rack nearby, I strongly recommend checking it. Nonstandard sizes can be found on their clearance racks, although like all clearance items, YMMV for finding what you want. But it's a good way to find cheap bras. If you don't have one nearby but are in the US, Amazon, Bare Necessities and Bravissimo are good places to look online. Bare Necessities currently has a sale going on.

As for sports bras that have bra sizes, I personally wear Panache's underwire sports bra, and I like it. However, from my normal 30E/F, I went up a band size to 32E. If I tried my regular size in their sports bra it would be uncomfortably tight.

u/Iophobic · 27 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I've been there. I found that buying actual running shoes and workout clothes (rather than wearing old college tees and cotton leggings) was a great motivator. I told myself that I didn't buy these things just to have them go to waste (and a small part of me liked showing off my ~fabulous shoe and shirt combos~). As I started exercising more, my matching game became A++ and I invested in more expensive items (specifically, a good, supportive sports bra)

I would start off buying cheaper workout clothes rather than diving into "nicer" brands like Lululemon. Old Navy and Target (and apparently Forever21?) have great affordable options. I've also gotten great deals at TJ Maxx, Marshalls and outlet stores

Seiko SNDC31

Price: $140

Movement: Quartz

Style: Chronograph

Size: 40 mm

Link: Timeneeds.com review

Amazon Page

Google Image Search

Description: A great, affordable chronograph. Can be worn with shorts and t-shirt or a suit and just about everything in between. It's accurate enough for every day use and falls right about in the middle, size wise - not oversized but not too small.

One complaint is that the hands and face are very similarly coloured, which can make it hard to read. This has only been a problem for me in dim light.

u/WeddingShit · 26 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I have this octopus necklace. I shortened the chain to 16-17" so it sits just below my collarbone, right in the center of my chest. I get compliments on it ALL THE TIME and only occasionally disclose that I bought it from China for $3 on Amazon.

EDIT: I just realized you specified clothing. My B.

Casio MQ24-7E

Price: ~$9.00

Movement: Quartz

Style: N/A

Size: 33mm

Image: From Amazon

Link: Amazon

Description: Utterly spartan and completely without frill are the best way to describe this watch. It is light enough to forget you are wearing it and so lacking in flash others may not notice it to begin with. Nobody will mistake you for an adventurer, deep-sea diver, aviator, playboy, or Navy SEAL wearing this watch. Despite this, the Casio MQ24-7E carries a character all its own not by what is is but what it isn't. It is not heavy, gaudy, fancy, horologically notable, or impressive. It is merely an accurate, comfortable, humble, and magnificently simple watch.

u/houston-midtown · 24 pointsr/onebag

I've been living with only the contents of my 46 liter Osprey and a single plastic tub of clothing for about six months now. I could do without the tub of clothing easily (and have for weeks at a time while traveling), just more convenient to not have to do laundry every 4 days and also get fresh clean clothes every day.

My recommendation is to break up with a long term partner and let her keep everything. I never wanted all that stuff to begin with and it's awesome to own so little. I could be ready (and have been) for an international 4 week flight in less than 30 minutes.

Contents are pretty basic.

  • Laptop. A thin ultrabook right now. Considering leaving this behind when traveling since, while nice, it's probably at least 20% of my bag's weight right now and I could live without it. Would be nice to get a gaming laptop that I would obviously never travel with but that's a pretty big luxury item since I don't play games very often.
  • Chargers and external backup battery (about the size of a cell phone)
  • Toiletries including tissues, a few paper towels, lotions and hair products, shampoo, electric toothbrush. I bought tiny little ziplock bags that I keep medicine in as well so I don't need a year's supply with me or a giant bottle. I write the dosage on the bag so I don't have to Google it if I can't remember. I have medicine for pretty much any occasion because the last thing I want to do when I'm sick or feeling shitty in a country where I don't speak the language is have to go find medicine and hope everything isn't closed. Also maybe TMI, but I have a portable bidet because it's nice to always feel "clean" and never have to worry about running out of TP when traveling.
  • Travel pillow and travel towel. Never needed either really, only used pillow away from home a few times, but both would really suck to need and not have. I use the pillow as a "leg" pillow between my knees most nights and on planes to sleep a bit.
  • One pair khakis
  • One pair khaki Ex Officio shorts (doubles as swim suit)
  • 4-5 basic grey v neck shirts (they're all the same)
  • One pair of Nike workout shorts and a workout t-shirt. The shorts (when clean) are good for just walking around the house comfortably or when you need to go out for a minute for whatever reason and just want to slip something on. Also for working out, obviously.
  • One dress shirt and a brown belt
  • Brown boots
  • flip flops
  • Casual but stylish lace up loafer/boat shoe thing (grey). These are pretty flat and compress well.
  • 3 pairs of ExOfficio underwear.
  • Sunglasses and case for them so they don't get squished. Also premoistened lens wipes.
  • Rain jacket and a stylish light jacket that can be casual or formal

Clothes/jackets all packed in packing cubes. Makes it much easier to get what you want without tearing your bag apart. Toiletries in their own toiletry bag.

The shorts and underwear can be hand washed very quickly and dry within 20 minutes. I can dress up nice enough for anything except formal weddings or funerals.

Oh, and some wool socks. One long pair for boots and pants, a few very short (no show) pairs for shorts and loafers.

Only thing I would change is making the khakis and shirts wool. But that shit is expensive. And reduce number of shirts to two or three since drying wool shirts is much faster than cotton and don't get smelly after a single day.

One more thing that is probably my favorite is a travel backpack that can stuff into a small pouch. I use it constantly and it's super small and light. I have the Amazon Basics one.

The tub of extra clothing just has a lot of extra socks (all the same pair so no hunting and matching needed), extra underwear (all ex officio), jeans (which I don't travel with but will wear at home, again multiple pairs of the exact same brand/style/size), extra grey v-neck tshirts (I own about a dozen of the same shirt, but only travel with about 4 or 5), and more dress shirts so I can look nice on a day-to-day basis. I care less about looking "nice" when traveling which is why I only take one. Tub also has several extra workout shorts and shirts, again all the same brand/style.

My dress shirts are the only thing I own that has variation. They're all the same brand and fit, just different colors/patterns.

Things I carry on myself: phone, gum, wallet, keys. Wallet is only driver's license, debit and credit card, folded up blank check, a single business card, and about $100 cash. I use a binder clip to keep it together because even the slimmest wallets more than double the bulk. Key chain has 3 keys and and a utilikey but nothing else. Very handy having a knife that makes it through TSA, in addition to a screwdriver and bottle opener.

Really $100 or $150? The cost of a mid-range Seiko?

http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNDC33-Classic-Leather-Chronograph/dp/B004JY6X90/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1410290330&sr=8-7&keywords=Seiko

I mean, I agree its expensive, and $250 would have been a better price point, but expecting $100-150 from freaking Apple is just delusional.

u/mmmeadi · 22 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Bass Brocktons are recommended quite a bit as a cheap, good looking suede shoe. If you have the money, however, go with the Buckingham.

u/CrackpotJackpot · 19 pointsr/bigboobproblems

If you want something super supportive that doesn't hide things and won't give you the squashed-down uniboob look, check out the Panache underwired sports bra -- but only once you've been properly fitted!

u/AndreasIsHere · 17 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I would not wear dress shoes in high school. Although if you like that style of shoes. Check out Bass Bucks. These are more causal but defiantly will stand out in a good way. Also Mocs or Boat shoes would be a good option.

u/NoonBlueApplePie · 17 pointsr/mallninjashit

Maybe this ?

u/clarksdb · 16 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Horrible. Rockport leather is notoriously bad.

Just get Clark's Desert Boots.

They are cheaper to boot (heh). They will look better and the leather will be better.

Get them in beeswax leather to fill a similar role that your shoes would fill.

u/ikoabd · 16 pointsr/xxfitness

This sports bra literally changed my life. I can run, jump rope, jumping jack without fearing giving myself a black eye. I echo the others, head over to /r/ABraThatFits and check your size, and then immediately get this bra.

u/eetsumkaus · 14 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Suede bucks: Bass Buckingham

PTB: MFA seem to like PTBs on the high end. The Kenilworths used to get a lot of play around here, but they're on a very different last than Alden PTBs, much narrower.

The Leeds gets more attention on SF, but again is constructed differently than an Alden PTB (edit: nvm, I was thinking of these PTBs). You can typically find them on the Allen Edmonds Shoebank for < $300

u/notspartanono · 14 pointsr/malefashionadvice

The shoes you've got go best with (casual or dress) shirts and chinos. You can also wear then with dark jeans (without distressing), but I think there are better shoes for jeans.

These are some shoes that I like wearing with jeans and chinos. The leather is more casual, and the shape is a little different than the derby you have.

Another option is blucher mocs.

u/imabratinfluence · 14 pointsr/bigboobproblems

If you don't want to squash them, avoid "compression bras" and look for "encapsulation bras." Encapsulation bras will have separate cups, like this Freya Active, Panache Sport, and Panache Sport Non-wired.

u/chimpastronaut · 14 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Not sure if it helps but you can pretty much assemble the MFA uniforms:

1.0:

OCBD - Uniqlo

Levi's 511s - David Jones, Just Jeans, General Pants Co. etc

Clarks Bushacres (beeswax)

2.0:

Tees - Hallensteins (or Industrie if on sale)

Sweater - Uniqlo

Levi's 511 as above

Vans Authentics (True White) - eBay

u/_I_Have_Opinions_ · 12 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Of course you can go cheap, if you embrace it. Get a Casio F91W-1 or a MQ24-7E and wear the shit out of it.

But if you spend $100 you can get a really awesome watch. Orient Mako, SEIKO 5...etc.

u/NIGHTFIRE777 · 12 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

What's the big difference between this one and Clark's Originals Desert Boot? Something about a crepe sole? It's something which I don't really like because it gets all dirty. I personally don't really love the silhouette of it, prefering this or this (in tan leather).

u/backbank · 12 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Check out /r/watches. They have a magnificent FAQ that led me, after some research on that sub and Amazon, to get this Seiko. Like you, I have skinny wrists. This watch, once I got four links removed, looks great - nothing like Flava Flav's clock. The biggest piece of advice I gleaned from /r/watches was to find a fairly thin watch with a smaller diameter (<38mm) to match my smallish wrist.

u/irrelevant_spiderman · 12 pointsr/malefashionadvice

The choice is obvious.

u/hatchetations · 12 pointsr/bigboobproblems

You might want to try the Panache sports bra if you haven’t already. Zero movement, very comfy, breathes well, no uniboob, looks good. Definitely use the r/abrathatfits measurement and sizing guide if you haven't worn Panache before. It’s not cheap and it’ll probably take a few tries to find the perfect size but it’s so worth it.

Description:
A clean, black Seiko 5 with red seconds hand. This one came with a crappy bracelet, but I have a brown leather band arriving soon. Right now it's on a Nato band. It's a perfect mix of casual and dressy without any flash or pretense. As soon as I put it on a leather band it will be my standard work watch. aye dude fuck what people say its a nice looking watch and its pretty cheap. I have gotten more compliments on that watch than any of my other watches. You can also get it in silver. Those are the two main watches I wear

u/Captain_-H · 10 pointsr/AskMen

I think watches, specifically mechanical watches, are fascinating. You could get a nice looking seiko like this for 70 bucks

Edit: search "seiko 5" on Amazon for a lot of different similarly priced options

Coming in right around ~$350

White sneakers (leather preferred, canvas optional)
Converse Chuck Taylor II low - ~$50

Clarks Bushacre 2 - ~$50
Slim/tapered dark wash jeans
AE Extreme Flex Slim Dark Jeans - $24
Khaki and olive chinos
Target Goodfellow Slim Fit Khaki Chinos - $23
Target Goodfellow Slim Fit Olive Chinos - $23

Sweater of your choice color
J Crew Harbor Cotton Crewneck Sweater in Heather Grey - $24.50
Bomber/harrington jacket
Gap Black Bomber Jacket $52.99

Viola! You've got the basic bastard look for $350. Kinda crazy looking at it - over 40% of the cost is made up by the two pairs of shoes and the bomber jacket so if you're able to find deals or steals on any of those things then that would likely save you the most money.

Actually, to be fair - taxes and shipping aren't included on a lot of these purchases so that's something to be mindful of... something else to be mindful of would be that not all of these items are on sales. Sales can bring these prices, or the price of competitors similar items markedly down.

u/steelflex274 · 10 pointsr/Watches

u/ErikBah · 9 pointsr/malefashionadvice

First time posting,

Both outfits I wore to school this week. In both I'm actually wearing this watch (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00065FWR0/ref=pd_sbs_241_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=AYK4RF63F9PMT9EH37QP) that /u/homahuey posted about in some thread I saw while lurking. I liked it way too much NOT to get, and I picked up like 5 so I could use em the same way he did, lmao.

I think its also worth noting that before I choose what to wear before I go out, I'm listening to music and whatever particular song I'm listening to usually plays a role in what I end up wearing.

The first outfit was inspired by Telephone Calls off of Cozy Tapes Vol. 1, and the second outfit "Down On My Luck" by Vic Mensa.

First fit: http://i.imgur.com/dKIUl1i.png
http://i.imgur.com/CABbJoD.png

  • Vintage Chicago White Sox snapback,

  • My uncles Tommy Hilfiger windbreaker (?), he doesn't remember when/where he picked it up unfortunately.

  • I'm also wearing a Diamond Co. Grey hoodie underneath the jacket, but any other grey hoodie would've served the same purpose,

  • Jeans from Topman,

  • Nike Roshes.

    Second: http://i.imgur.com/BiVziii.png
    http://i.imgur.com/a44dCc5.png

  • My dads aviators that I scooped up before heading off to class,

  • GQ collab with GAP camo bomber (i'm wearing a large here because it was the only one available, but I would have much rather preferred a medium).

  • h&m burgundy sweater w/ navy elbow patches (the colour comes up much better in the aerial close up shot),

  • pair of thrifted jeans; I don't actually remember where I got these or what the brand is, but i will edit and update when I'm home.

  • Doc Marten boots. I forgot which ones these are as well, will update in that edit.
u/susuhead · 9 pointsr/Watches

Is this going to be a dressy watch for formal/special occasions? Or are you looking for a daily wear watch?

If the former latter, then perhaps a hard-wearing quartz is a good idea. If you want something special, but that you'll have to take care of, then your budget could easily allow you a dressier mechanical watch (auto or hand wound).

In fact, fuck it, here's a list of shit I dug up. I love internet-window-shopping:

Young-looking Seiko automatic diver

Hamilton Khaki

Another (larger) Hamilton Khaki

Khaki Pilot (very diver/aviator-esque look)

A Tissot auto chrono

A fairly dressy Hamilton

A nice and clean sporty Tissot

A rather large but eye-catching Hamilton

Yes, I know I went kinda overboard on the Hamiltons, but I was working off the impression your watch example and fondness for divers gave me.

EDIT: got my former/latter mixed up. I blame Mr. Walker's magnificent amber restorative.

u/intangiblemango · 9 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

36E is the same as 36DDD!

Are you wearing sports bras that are sized like S, M, L (like this: http://blog.dealrocker.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/Nike-Pro-Racerback-Bra.jpg ) or that are sized according to your bra size? If it's the former, that's probably your issue.

I do a lot of HIIT which requires bouncing around a LOT and I really like Panache Sport: http://www.amazon.com/Panache-Womens-Underwired-Sports-Bra/dp/B005X5FG2O and Shock Absorber bras including the Ultimate Run bra: http://www.amazon.com/Shock-Absorber-Womens-Ultimate-Sports/dp/B00IABYO9E/ref=sr_1_2?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1420749921&sr=1-2&keywords=shock+absorber (Note: If you happen to buy the Ultimate Gym bra... it sizes really small, so adjust accordingly. The Ultimate Run bra sizes true to size).

At 36DDD, though, you can totally buy sports bras from Victoria's Secret that will be sized according to your actual bra size and they are much more widely available. Be sure to jump around a ton in the dressing room! I can't speak to them much because I am not in the size range that Victoria's Secret serves, but I am sure that they are totally adequate.

Having read through your comments, my suggestions would be as follows:

Option A - Skagen

Option B - Skagen

Option C - Seiko

Option D - Seiko

Option E - Seiko

The last two of them are the most casual of the bunch. They can be worn daily, while the rest are semiformal and he should at least be wearing a button-down of some sort as opposed to a t-shirt with them.

u/JoCoLaRedux · 8 pointsr/Watches

Someone already mentioned Seiko 5, and the Seiko 5 finder will give you a lot of options.

Aside from that, I'd check out Citizen. They make good watches, many with 5 year warranties:

BF0580-06E

BI1030-53E

BM8240-03E

BM8475-26E

They might cost you a little more depending on the model, they're well worth it. The Eco drives are an excellent value, powered by light and expected to run at 80% capacity after 20 years, and when fully charged, can keep on ticking after being left in a dark drawer for up to six months.

u/lo_dolly_lolita · 8 pointsr/ABraThatFits

I love my Panache Sport! I wear it for everything like biking, hiking, ballet, traveling, and horseback riding. It would be quite difficult to stock enough sizes for a small business though.

u/HauteCocao · 8 pointsr/Maniac

Correct! I purchased that exact model for my costume! Edit: Also, the adjustment on the watch band can be a bit tricky, this video will help.

Minimalist

Crazy

Not all 100% black, but they at least got a little bit of black in them. I think part of wearing a watch is being able to balance how busy it looks on your wrist with how busy the rest of your outfit is. If you're going for streetwear, wearing a flashy watch is a lot easier than for someone going for a business casual look (of course there are exceptions). I'd say look at these and see if any would mesh with your wardrobe. Even if not, get the calculator one or the analog minimal one just to experiment with watches. They're cheap and it's fun as hell.

Just get a Seiko 5 chrono please. They're around the same price and much better quality.

This one is $109 on Amazon but others (chrono/non-chrono) are all around the same price. Just do a quick search and look for one that you like.

As always is the case, you are not saving $700 but spending $100. Make sure you do your research before making purchases rather than jumping on perceived sales.

Also vouching for /r/watches but just realize that it'll kill your budget.

u/GreyFox422 · 6 pointsr/Watches

These 2 Citizens should fit the bill:

Citizen AW1236-03A

Citizen BM8475-26E

THIS is a search I did on Amazon for Citizens under $150. There are plenty here that would fit your requirements.

Also, if you find one with something other than a leather band, switching it is super easy. Clockwork Synergy have a line of band that are great quality and easily interchangeable.

u/trylobite · 6 pointsr/Watches

Ok, here's my take on this. You're not a watch guy so let's go with a quartz watch. Quartz is just better in every way while being cheaper, except for the "cool" factor, which only watch guys really care about. You don't want to spend a lot of money on a watch. You don't mention that you want to impress people with your watch, just that you want a watch you can wear in a lot of places.

So I wouldn't spend even close to 10k. I would honestly recommend something like this Timex, this Seiko, this Casio, or maybe this Citizen. They're all nice enough to wear to work, casual enough to wear at home, and well within your budget. They're also all from respected brands that will get some respect from most people on this subreddit. If you decide you like wearing watches you can always get something nicer later, but for now, why spend more?

One thing these watches won't do is impress watch snobs, rich people, or pretentious co workers, so if that's one of your goals I'd go with one of the other recommendations in this thread.

Obligatory Clarks Desert Boots. or Stinson His. Both are great, versatile, and comfy as hell. I'd also say look at some nice boat shoes like this or this. If you really want a great pair, also look at Allen Edmonds Shoe Bank for a great deal on 2nd quality. the prices are higher, but you could find a pair in the low 100's on a good enough sale. I really recommend their penny loafers, as they can be worn casually or dressed up.

u/Preston205 · 5 pointsr/Watches

Three completely different watches I'll recommend for you because I'm not really sure of your style or what you want and I'm not sure you are either. All of these are from good brands and have good movements at a good value and you can't go wrong with any of them.

Tissot Le Locle
http://www.amazon.com/Tissot-TIST41142333-Analog-Display-Automatic/dp/B000JKSS8M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421482962&sr=8-1&keywords=tissot+le+locle
Great movement from a good brand, available in several color combinations. Don't own one yet but I plan on it. Fantastic watch and a beautiful piece.

Hamilton Field Khaki Auto 42mm
http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-H70555533-Khaki-Field-Black/dp/B000EQ0BM2
Another fantastic piece. Very very versatile, not really sure if it's your style as its more of a military design but it's built like a tank and has a very iconic history. The Hamilton field Khaki was commonly worn in WW2 and a couple other wars. Same great movement as the Tissot, highly recommended.

Obris Morgan Explorer II
http://www.obrismorgan.com/explorerii.html
Going a completely different direction is a divers watch. Also very versatile and sporty at the same time. This one is from a smaller brand but it has a very respectable movement in it and the brand has been highly regarded in what they have put out. While it is the cheapest that doesn't mean it's the worst by any means it's just the best value of the three. It comes with a Miyota 9015 which is just as good if not better as the ETA 2824 which the other two have and a sapphire crystal. It's a great value if you like the looks of it I would highly recommend it.

While I wouldn't recommend the Versace or really any fashion brand at all it's your choice in the end. If you like it but it, wear it, and love it but I would highly recommend any of the three above. There's plenty of options out there but these three should give you a good variety. If I had $1100 to spend on watch(es) I would buy these three in a heart beat because with these three you would have a watch for every possible occasion in your life. Obviously you're not going to buy all three but any of these three are versatile enough to wear pretty much anywhere. Best of luck!

The SNE057 looks pretty damn close, but that it's solar and the stock bracelet is different. That lug shape is pretty unique and rules out most of the 5 series, I believe. It's such a nice touch though. It reminds me of the lugs on the Omega Aqua Terra. I'll keep looking and edit this post if I find anything.

edit: Here's an SNE057 with a blue face that has the right bracelet but square chapter ring markings rather than triangle.

edit 2: SNE039 is a lot closer. Black dial and correct bracelet and chapter ring markings are on the money, but the "solar" marking at 6 o'clock is still not matching.

edit 3: That's all I've got. Perhaps someone here can tell you the non-solar equivalent to the SNE039. Best of luck.

EDIT 4: Success!!! The Seiko SGF719

For the money, I'd go with the solar version though...

Edit 5: Hopefully the last - The SGGA49 looks identical to the SGF719, but cheaper, for some reason.

None of those are going to win a bunch of support around here. If I had to choose between those three... Skagen quality can be sketchy, Tissot is a well-respected brand but $200 for a simple quartz dress watch is getting high, and the Bulova is just another quartz fashion watch... I'm stumped but I think I might opt for the Tissot.

Have you checked out the Orient website? They have 30-50% coupon codes you can use. Also consider something like this solar/quartz or this mechanical + a leather band as alternate options.

u/colonelpan1c · 4 pointsr/Watches

You're on r/watches, so answer is going to be Seiko. I tend to agree in this case. Fossil is known for making oversized, overpriced, mediocre fashion watches. Seiko has been a quality watch and clock manufacturer since forever. The citizen is nice too, but I'm not a huge fan of the dial setup.

If you're willing to save up longer and are interested in mechanical watches, the Seiko SARB033 would be a really fantastic option, and offers a lot of value at its price.

At a lower price point, the Seiko SNE039 is an affordable quartz solar watch that scratches the same itch.

I'd suggest this citizen as well.

I mean, buy what you like, it's your money and your watch. But if I was going for that style, I'd pick from these. I can't say enough good things about the Seiko SAR series though.

u/-rando- · 4 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Sorry, but I am not a fan of either of those. The straps on those Chelsea boots kill them for me, and the leather looks cheap and plasticky in the pictures. The Derbies also aren't a good pick for something to start building a wardrobe up.

I would start with something like this: Bass bucks or this Clark Desert London Oxford in Beeswax or brown suede. You can wear either of those with jeans or chinos and an OCBD. From there, you can move on to dress shoes, or a Chelsea boot, but get something nice, like this JE Chelsea.

u/skyleth · 3 pointsr/Watches

I think the Orient Bambino would be a good pick (it's also available in a silver finish but black band so you'd have to change that yourself), more interesting than a sea of similar Bulova, Citizen, and Seiko quartz dress watches.

This Seiko Chronograph might be nice also but busier. And coming in well below budget is the Timex Forty Weekender.

u/rompenstein · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I've found the SNDC31 to be an excellent watch for the price, and fit's your "white chrono under $100" bill, although only when on sale. It's at $119 on Amazon Prime right now but often falls below $100.

u/bullshitmostlikely · 3 pointsr/Watches

Fossil uses various quartz movements mostly from Japan or China, but at this price range you shouldn't worry too much about the pedigree of the movement. Its a fashion watch and will function well enough as such.

There are quartz chronographs from more reputable manufacturers in that price range like this one from Seiko or Citizen

Hi r/watches! Most of the women who have written to this sub for engagement watch advice either have very different budgets or SOs with very different styles than mine, so I was wondering if I could ask for your guidance/approval! I sort of doubt whether I have the guts to propose myself, but regardless the idea is to have the perfect watch on hand when the time comes (he's told me just to ask) -- plus, I'm going to see his best friend and also his brother over the course of the next month, so I'd like to have a solid idea of what I'm aiming for to run it by them!

Here's the breakdown: I have told him to absolutely never spend more than 3K, but for a really lovely watch, I'd be open to stretching a little beyond that (I have ~2.5 saved now). He's in tech (well, we're grad students for now, but eventually) so definitely a desk job type. He dresses fairly nicely for his field-- on a normal day, he wears a causal collared shirt with jeans or khakis-- and is about 6'2" with a slender but not super-skinny build, probably about 175 or 180 lbs (1.9 m/80 kg). Lower-maintenance watches would probably be better suited to him, like ideally no date, because I lack confidence that it won't just trick him into thinking there are 31sts in months where they don't belong. However, I want this to actually be a nice gift that will last and potentially eventually go to one of the many children we plan to have, and I'm sure he will bring it in to have it maintained.

I am strongly inclined to go with a leather band over a bracelet. Style-wise, [he seems to like this sacrilegious watch I bought him for Christmas before I discovered this sub] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HG08YEG/ref=wl_it_dp_v_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=3BSX9GDNHBET8&coliid=I3H27771YTNYAK). He's said these are his favorite grad-school-priced watches 1 [2] (https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNDC33-Classic-Leather-Chronograph/dp/B004JY6X90?ie=UTF8&colid=3BSX9GDNHBET8&coliid=I2YQVOOD2BMDOD&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl) [3] (https://www.amazon.com/Citizen-Eco-Drive-BM8475-26E-Stainless-Leather/dp/B005MKGOOY?ie=UTF8&colid=3BSX9GDNHBET8&coliid=I3SE95ENY1DIU9&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl).

I think that Nomos' watches looks very sleek and sophisticated (and he likes colorful watch hands), and the Tagente seems to be a favorite on here for weddings and engagements. Personally, I think that some of the TAG Heuer Carrera 1964 Chronographs are beyond stunning, but I'm not sure I have the know-how to handle a grey market purchase. Is there anything else that might be worth considering in this price range/based on the styles he likes? Would you be OK with getting a simple, sleek watch like a Nomos Tangente Gangreserve or Tangomat as an engagement present? (I know most girls seem to want something glittery, but I'm much more on the simple side of things -- is that OK in the watch world?) Is there a reasonable place to look for one of those beautiful Carerras (or my understanding is that a Chronograph might not even be appropriate for this type of occasion?)

I really appreciate the resources you've put together here because I've already learned so much. Thank you for any thoughts or guidance you have -- I am kind of in shock that I'm doing this but also really excited!

That's a chronograph. Start by browsing Amazon. You can filter by price range, brand, features, color, ect. Read the brand guide in the side bar if you want to know if a brand is any good. u/stylelimited · 3 pointsr/Watches

Here are two suggestions, both a bit above your budget but still worth considering. Seiko is a reputable brand, but obviously there are other options.

  1. Seiko SNE031 - white dial with black hands on a bracelet. 37mm size is very traditional and will look classy. I really like this type of watch since it is the type of classic look that really works with anything. It is quartz, which may be relevant or not - depending on who you are. You should Google prices for it, but here is one place you can find it: https://www.jomashop.com/seiko-watch-se-sne031.html

  2. Seiko SNK795 - this is basically the same sell, but with a black dial rather than the white. A little more casual therefore. It is automatic, rather than quartz - which, again, may matter depending on who you are. Roughly the same prize https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNK795-Automatic-Stainless-Steel/dp/B0058VJWTQ
u/stylefish · 3 pointsr/Watches

The SARB033 is very much worth the price IMO. It has a sapphire crystal and uses Seiko's 6R15 movement, based on the venerable 7S26, but has hand-winding and hacking. Fit and finish should also be superior to Seiko 5s, but YMMV depending on the Seiko 5 model.

If saving for another month is out of the question or you just absolutely must have a watch within your target budget right now, there are a few Seiko 5 alternatives. Note that the 5s all have day/date complications as opposed to the date only on the SARB033.

There's the SNK795, which shares the same design as the SNK793 you posted, just in black with a red seconds hand. It's about $100-110 depending on seller.

This SNK605 comes a bit closer in terms of the design of the hands, but is still a far cry from the SARB033. The dial is textured instead of flat black and Amazon seems to have some discrepancy over whether the dial is dark brown or black. Jomashop's picture shows a black textured dial and the price is much lower than on Amazon so I would go with them if you pick this model.

My last suggestion before I have to run is the SNKK71. It has a refined look reminiscent of the SARB033 while keeping it's own identity. Again, priced lower on Jomashop than Amazon, but not by much.

The Orient Bambino is another watch to consider. ~$130-200 depending on who you get it from. The ER24004B version is the one with the tapered hands, but may be slightly more difficult to find now.

For reference, here's Watch Sleuth's Seiko 5 Finder. It's pretty nice for comparing the different Seiko 5 models and maybe you'll find something you like. FWIW, I would personally save up for the SARB033 instead of settling or a Seiko 5 if that's what you really have your eyes set on style-wise. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with any Seiko 5 IMO.

If you like the bold black look you could try to save a bit more and go for a Citizen. With the Citizen you'd get a nice and well-made watch from a good company that will run for the next ten years without even changing the battery.

I’d say embrace the uptightness to Ludacris levels. Start slow, baby steps, until the silliness is at max factor. Soon you will be wearing Legendary SuitJamas like a boss.

(Note: There is no right or wrong way to “let loose.” Find the best way to express your inner animal and don’t worry if you are doing it correctly.)

Are these shoes welted? Try going to /r/goodyearwelt for more information on the shoes, considering I've never heard of this company. If they're bondwelted (the soles are glued onto the shoe, making resoling difficult to impossible), I would pass on them and look for some higher quality shoes. These Red Wing Beckman Oxfords are a little more expensive, but will last you much longer. Alternatively, these Bass Buckingham oxfords are very similar and cost half as much as the ones you linked.

A navy shawl collar sweater I picked up at a local Irish store for $150

September :

Tate + yoko mystery bag for $180. Terrible purchase. I got a decent jacket out of this, but the denim fit was atrocious and I already had it hemmed to my inseam length which meant selling it is damn near impossible.

August :

Following things from Topman : Grey Crewneck for $6 (Made in UK!), Pink checked shirt for $12, Burgundy twill shirt for $12, Band collar red and black check for $11, Collarless bomber jacket for $9.

I still think someone goofed up with these prices. I didn't even return anything. all of them fit relatively well

[Norse Projects Space dye sweater] (http://www.norseprojects.com/store/men-archive/knitwear/ss16-arild-space-dye) -- $101

July :

Barbour x White Mountaineering casual jacket -- $169.

Abercrombie and Fitch 7in shorts for $20 bucks each. Fight me!

June :

Nothing of note.

John Varvatos suede derbies for $71

Barbour Netherby Crewneck $45

Anonymousism socks

April :

Cole Haan Oxfords $60

January :

G H Bass isaac buc in olive $34

This doesn't include the random pickups from B&M stores which were mostly at Banana Republic, mostly shirts and a couple of chinos.

I was also gifted an Allen Edmonds Strands shoe for which I gave the wrong size.
The buying pattern clearly stepped over the second half and I became much better at realizing what I liked and what I wanted to buy.

Best buys :

Blucher mocs, wingtips, boots (option 2), chukkas (option 2), penny loafers, and bucks (option 2 & option 3) are all some great options.

If you can, try to introduce him to slimmer pants in a darker wash -- perhaps some 511's or 513's in 'rigid dragon' or 'bastion' respectively? Combined with some new shoes, he'll look great. :)

It's a bit harder to get diagnose fit and for some people to get the best possible fit in a moulded bra, but if you're not at all open to wearing a non-moulded bra, that's totally your choice. Your measurements put you between band sizes as well as between cup sizes, so you're likely to wear a 32 band in some bras and a 34 in others (in addition to being between cup sizes).

I'm putting only amazon links in here for ease of shipping/returns. Everything I've linked is available on Prime, but it might default to another seller if the size you choose is out of stock or they have a lower price so just pay attention when you're adding stuff to your cart as other sellers will have their own return policies.

For absolute basic, 'everyday' bras, your best choice to start would probably be Freya Deco. This bra runs bigger in the band, so you'll probably do fine in a 32 band here.

Personally I prefer the fit of the Parfait Jeanie to the Deco, I find the cups/straps are a little closer together so it's much more comfortable for me. (Also it's $20 cheaper, though, I'd still pay the extra money for something that fit better).

Strapless bras are fairly difficult to come by in larger sizes, the Deco Strapless is what I would consider the most useful one, it also comes in a longline version which may be more supportive if you don't find this sufficient. It is tighter in the band than the regular Deco, so you may take a 34 in this.

Panache Sport is probably the most consistently recommended bra on this sub, it comes in underwired and non-wired versions. It's not moulded, the cups are seamed and made of flexible foam. The underwires in the wired version are padded, so it's pretty comfy. You'll probably take a larger band in this based on the fact that you're lifting and doing yoga, and not running.

However, since the Panache sport is an encapsulation bra, it's really not my first choice for yoga. I prefer this Shock Absorber which is a strong compression bra, to just flatten my boobs as much as possible to get them as much out of the way as they can get. This runs tight in the band, so I might suggest trying a 36 band. The sizing is kind of weird on this as well, the boob section never gets any wider, it just gets taller (I own this in a FF and H cup in the same band size), so if you try it and think it doesn't provide enough coverage and is showing too much very squished cleavage, just size up even if it's a cup size much larger than you would normally wear.

$250 is a bit of a tight budget for the number of bras you want, but really not impossible once you've narrowed down your size. Even based on Amazon-pricing, if you like the Parfait Jeanie, you can get 3 of those, the Deco Strapless, and a sports bra for $260.....but you can also get 3 Decos, the Deco Strapless, and a Panache Sport from here for £161 which converts to $213USD. You can also often find new with tags bras on ebay from UK sellers that are selling off previous seasons' printed or fashion colour bras.

u/sockbears · 3 pointsr/loseit

I would recommend trying out a wired sports bra if you can. Having a bra that encapsulates your breasts instead of compressing them really helps with comfort, support, and prevents uniboobing. I have this one by panache and I love it.

u/dehue · 3 pointsr/AskWomen

Have you ever double checked your size at /r/abrathatfits? I am asking because most stores tend to fit everyone busty into DDD sizes which often results in bad bra fit that can be the main reason for painful and uncomfortable bras. I went from 32DDD to wearing 28GG bras from UK bra brands and have stopped having issues with shoulder steps digging in and band not providing enough support. Not to mention that the bras make my boobs look way nicer. Before, I would attempt to alter the band too but it never worked too well.

There are lots avaliable on the internet, in different pretty colors, styles and patterns from bust friendly UK bras. Sometimes it's harder to find plain ones. Most are fairly pricy, but I have found lots of $40 bras on sale in my size before. Nordstoms if you have one near also stocks lots of DD+ sizes in all kinds of styles, brands and colors!

For sports bras, I really recommend Panache sports bra. https://www.amazon.com/Panache-Womens-Underwire-Sports-Bra/dp/B005X5FG2O It's supportive, very comfortable and makes exercising not a terrible experience. There are lots of sales too so if you don't mind the more colorful styles, you can generally find a discounted style fairly easily.

u/jennypop · 3 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

try this one. trust.

u/nosudo4u · 3 pointsr/TryingForABaby

Oh noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! I forgot my underwear a few weeks ago so now I keep a spare pair my gym bag JIC.

PS - Say goodbye to uniboob! Check out Panache Sport. I've also heard great things about Wacoal and Chantelle's sports bras but so far my Panache sport's bras are my favs. I have two with wires and two without and they are seriously the best sports bras I've ever worn.

u/RowingPanda · 3 pointsr/ABraThatFits

I recently purchased a Panache sports bra and love it! http://www.amazon.com/Panache-Womens-Underwired-Sports-Bra/dp/B005X5FG2O

However, my breasts are full on bottom. But the shape of the bra seems like it would hold in the top fullness. Maybe someone else here will have experience with this one and full on top? Good luck!

u/BriannaRG · 3 pointsr/ABraThatFits

Hey there! Definitely not an expert here (I'm sure one of them will check in) but I used to have the same problems. Sports bras are the worst with a pendulous shape- I felt like I was always trying to escape out the bottom of a too-big band! I was jealous of my friends who could just buy a cheap one off the rack in some store labeled in "S, M, L" sizing and make it work. That was definitely not going to happen for me. Looking back, I think most of them had firmer tissue and were self-supporting, so they had a completely different shape than I did.

You'll definitely want to measure yourself according to the sidebar guidelines so that you have a better size to start with. Then, there are lots of sports bras that have adjustable bands and straps, and even different types of hold.

My favorite turned out to be the Panache Sports Bra (I like both the wired and non-wired for different activities). I get incredible lift and support, and absolutely no movement. It's on the expensive side, but I've never been more comfortable in a sports bra and I don't dread working out anymore. Plus, Amazon has lots of sales, so I've rarely paid full price. If it works with your measurements, I recommend trying it! If not, there's lots of other styles to try, and this sub was very helpful in making a few recommendations for me when I was looking. Hopefully you find something that works for you!

u/theruthisloose · 3 pointsr/xxfitness

I am a 30G (measured over at /r/ABraThatFits). I finally broke down and ordered the sports bra from Panache. Assuming you're all measured and properly fitted into the correct bra size, this thing is a miracle!

It doesn't use compression, but more of an encapsulation technique.. if that makes sense? It's the most amazing invention in the world of large-breasted athletes. If you can spare the cash, I would highly recommend it.

Up for sale is my Omega Speedmaster Reduced 2510.50 in very good condition! I’m sure most people know the general specs of this watch but if you don’t here is a link I was told by the last owner of the watch that it had been well serviced and kept. The last service was is 2016 but has been only a few times since. I have ran my timegrapher on it and it’s readying +/-4spd in most positions. The crystal has the Omega logo in the center so I know it’s genuine Omega Hesalite. It does have a small scratch near the 7 o’clock edge of the class, [Polywath](Plastic Watch Crystal Scratch Remover Polish Tool https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E3T237C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4OIoDbFQ8MB6G) would probably take it right out so I have no problems with trying to get it out before shipping it. No guarantees, but Polywatch might be able to fix this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00E3T237C/

I've used it on a cheap plastic watch and it came out perfect. It took a couple hours of gentle scrubbing. I'm not sure if it's worth the effort.

u/turdbogls · 3 pointsr/Watches

>Does anyone have any tips on how to remove surface level scratches without losing the sheen and clarity of the glass?

it depends on the crystal material. usually these older watches like this use Polycarbonate (plastic) crystals, which is super easy to polish out. get some Polywatch and go to town on it.

if it's actual glass, it'll be more difficult/impossible to clean up and would probably be easier to just replace the crystal. any respectable watch repair shop (not the one in the mall kiosk) should be able to do it for fairly cheap (Sub $100 i'd say)

u/Calypto- · 3 pointsr/Watches

Try this product if you want to restore it. I can't guarantee it works since this is not from scratching, but from chemicals.

College is casual. You'll be wearing a t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers 95% of the time.

Get some dark, non-distressed, well-fitting jeans. Not baggy, but not ridiculous tight. No rips, tears, or holes - this way you can wear them when you're kickin' it during the day, or when you're hitting the clubs at night.

Next, get some socks and sneakers/casual shoes. There are literally hundreds of options, it's really up to YOUR personal taste. Just off the top of my head: Converse All-Stars, Converse Jack Purcells, Adidas Sambas, Clarks Desert Boots, etc.

Wear what you like for t-shirts. I always like to have some well-fitting solid color v-necks to keep it classy and simple. Try Target, mall department stores, etc.

Get a nice simple watch. I like Casio Men's MQ24-7E Classic Analog Watch because it's so versatile.

Have you ever considered a Hamilton? I'm a big fan of this one myself.

u/Faraquat · 3 pointsr/Watches

The black one you linked is the first "Swiss" automatic I ever purchased, and I absolutely love it.

You mention that you want a 38mm face, but the one you linked is 42mm (which I have, and recommend). The 42mm really isn't a large watch, I personally think the 38 would be to small, but I don't know how large your wrist is.

Either way, it is a fantastic every day kind of piece, the leather is really comfortable and nice looking, and the face doesn't seem out of place with casual wear or slightly dressed up.

Good luck!

u/emsqrd · 3 pointsr/Watches

I can't speak to either of those directly, but I do have a Khaki Field Auto 42 mm that I recently purchased and absolutely love it. It's a bit more casual than the Jazzmaster collection and it goes with just about everything I wear.

u/trackday_bro · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

/r/watches has a really really great buying guide in their sidebar, I would start there.

As for styles, for a t-shirt and jeans, I would stick to a field watch style. For my money, I like this Hamilton.

u/SirLaxer · 3 pointsr/Watches

Exactly. A watch is like a pair of shoes: you wouldn't wear penny loafers when going out for a run, and you wouldn't wear sneakers at a funeral. There are a ton of different kinds of watches (like the Rolex Submariner compared to an Omega Speedster...different functions for different types of people and different activities), and within those categories there are different stylistic choices that are based on personal tastes (modern and sleek, big and bulky, etc).

I could recommend something like the Hamilton Khaki Field, or something like a Seiko diver, or a Citizen Eco-Drive chronograph, or the popular Seiko SARB065. Very different watches for different types of people and different occasions.

Firstly, buy a Seiko 5. I paid £55 for [mine] (http://imgur.com/xEsspb9) and I am in love. You cannot get more for you money anywhere. Date and day, automatic movement, luminescent dial.

Like all new collectors, my real grail is proper in-house movement (just saw this in another post [A. Lange & Söhne movement] (http://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/2aq1x2/a_lange_s%C3%B6hne_double_split_movement_outside_of/), this is watch we live for, dream of and hope one day we'll be lucky enough to own). Once you get interested in movements and the passion of horology it's hard to respect these fashion brands. That said, all new brands have to start somewhere.

Furthermore, my collection is very humble and I'm not a watch snob (I don't snub cheap watches - it's fashion watches I dislike). Here's my collection:

  • [Classic digital Casio stainless steel] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LAKYW8) £15 paid
  • [Timex Outdoor watch] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00ADZIS7Y) £25 paid
  • [Seiko 5] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004OFP21Y) £52 paid - looks much better in real life. I love the shape of watch case.
  • [Rossling & Co.] (http://www.rosslingco.com/collections/watches/products/silver-white-blued-hands) $150 paid. I've actually got the gold watch with blued hands but it's been taken of the website (out of stock presumably).
  • [Mondaine Simply Elegant Ladies, mesh bracelet] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004WRPWB4) £225 paid (yup I bought the "ladies" model because the men's was too large for my wrists).

Can't wait to add some more automatic and mechanical movements to my collection. I need to add some watches from brands with great provenance and heritage, but I'm new to this and working with tight budgets. One thing I can say is that I won't ever buy a Gucci or Armani watch or any fashion brand.

When looking at brands without watchmaking provenance, Montblanc is a great example of how to do it right. They're relatively new to watchmaking but they're doing it with passion and care. As I say, every new watchmaking brand has to start somewhere - like every new collector - the key is passion.
u/cpmsmith · 3 pointsr/FrugalMaleFashionCDN

Short answer: yes.

Ruthless as it is, I've tried stuff on in stores and then bought it on Amazon for cheaper—I've got some boots on the way now. I've also gotten a couple of staple watches for pretty good prices, but all of this is related to the fact that I have prime. Sometimes it's a weird system, as in the case of those boots, but if you're willing to learn how to work with it you can find pretty good stuff.

I'm just getting into watches again and this is my first automatic. I've been enjoying reading this subreddit and watching a lot of Youtube watch channels and picked up that the Seiko 5 line is a great entry level watch. Most people recommend the 809, but I didn't want to go for that one as I've already got my eye on a few other higher-end Flieger-type watches, so I wanted to find something different in the Seiko 5 line and this one caught my eye: https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNK789-Analog-Automatic-Silver/dp/B0018N0HL0. I've had it a week and it's been great. It's surprisingly high quality and looks even better in person than it does in pictures. I just put it on a NATO yesterday and that's been a nice change, too, although the bracelet it comes with is not bad, IMO.

u/smallerthan · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

These watches are all slightly more than $50. Seiko is a reputable brand. The watches should be fairly durable, though not as reliable as something more expensive. All three are automatics and the first two have exhibition case backs so you can see the inner workings.

I guess you could try some watches at local stores to be sure of the size.

I don't have the AMW330D-1AV but have a different model from the same line and have looked closely at the AMW330D-1AV in real life. I can recommend them, they are well built and durable. My only complaints are that the bracelet is somewhat more noisy than on my citizen, swatch and orient, and the battery is really small and does not last the 3-5 years that I am used to on digitals.

Having a chrono is very useful for me, but the subdials can be small and harder to read than digital displays. At your age I don't think this will be an issue.

Seiko makes some smaller watch at good prices in 36-38mm sizes, both in quartz and automatic. If this is your first ever watch, the inaccuracy and requirements of automatics might be disconcerting.

This is a well regarded Seiko automatic with a very good price and small size. For a bit more you can go solar.

Not sure if these are the kind you're really looking for (and I don't know much at all about watches), but they're similar to Bauhaus style:

Boccia (various), $85+: http://teno.com/Boccia-Titanium/Boccia-Watches-Men

I spent some time looking for minimalist, Bauhaus style watches for a while, and these are the only ones I've found for under $50 (except the Boccia). You might have better luck searching than I did.

This is my daily wearer: a Subaru Casio Forester. It's not fancy, but it works quite well, and is a bit scratched up to prove it. I'm an analogue kind of guy, which is why I keep the LCD display on the date.

...

I do have other watches, but they're all in storage at the moment. Out of memory, I have a Casio MQ24-7E (which is the other I wear, typically for more formal events), a Casio MQ24-7B2, one of these, one of these, and one of these, among others. Most of them need new batteries...

u/notjoea · 2 pointsr/minimalism

I like the aesthetic, but the price is ridiculous for what it is. This is a fairly close Casio and is under $10.

u/dareao · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I'm a college student. I've got expendable income, and I want to look nice, but I haven't worn a watch since early high school. So, I decided to shop around and see if I'd like to wear a watch again.

I was thinking, oh, you know, I'll spend $80 to $100 and see what I can find.

Until I found this one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00065FWR0/ref=oss_product

For TEN DOLLARS.

I love it. It's small, light, and cheap. It looks elegant as fuck and it's just so perfect. If it gets stolen or I lose it, I won't give a damn and I'll just order another one.

Sorry, it's not about figuring out how to wear them... I guess if wearing a watch instantly limits what you wear and how you wear it in the professional setting, then I guess I will have to pass on wearing a watch for business setting and limit it to t-shirts and lose sleeve clothing

For example, this http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-H70555533-Khaki-Field-Black/dp/B000EQ0BM2/ref=sr_1_1?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1337781723&sr=1-1

Maybe the Orient Bambino or a Tissot Visodate?

Also, depending on the level of formality at the special events he plans to attend, consider widening the category of "dress watch" to include something like a Hamilton Khaki Field.

u/caspersauer · 2 pointsr/Watches

My first thought was the [Hamilton Khaki Field] (https://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-H70555533-Stainless-Automatic-Leather/dp/B000EQ0BM2)... and I'm sure there are more. Enjoy the search.

u/greatkio · 2 pointsr/Watches

I know that when you talk about expanding your budget, the thought of laying down more money can be pretty painful depending on your situation, and I would hate to encourage you go to beyond your means. That said, if you were willing to go up, here are the kinds of things you can think about, which are much better than what you're looking at now:

First, the Victorinox INOX, which seems like the perfect watch for what you're describing. I tried one of these on in a store the other day and they are fucking tough as shit. When I was there they just threw it at stuff. Hard. There are some intense videos of them being tested on YouTube. I'm probably gonna get one for my mountaineering uncle for Christmas. I really think this watch would suit your needs perfectly - it's got a solid military heritage.

The
Hamilton Khaki
is a popular field watch. I want the titanium version (much more expensive). You can find one for ~300, Amazon's not the cheapest place to buy.

If you are willing to come up to ~300, Seiko and Citizen have some pretty tough diver's watches in that price range. I'll second /u/JoCoLaRemix's suggestion for the Seiko Monster, which I think is hideous, but has a good reputation.

Happy hunting!

u/Bridgemaniac · 2 pointsr/bikecommuting

3.4 miles. Half commute on 1-lane roads where I kinda block traffic (no shoulder, no bike lane), other half is on a shared use path. generally flat.

I used to wear gym shorts/t-shirt and change on arrival/departure. now I just wear my business casual clothes, including these shoes more often than not: CDBs. I go about 3-4mph slower than my weekend long rides to not get too sweaty... it can still be pretty warm in the mornings in North Carolina in November.

u/antifolkhero · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

My suggestions from time spent on here:

  1. Get him some Levi's 514 jeans. These are the best fitting jeans for non-super skinny people and they look awesome.

  2. Buy him some shirts at Zara. The pants are too skinny for my legs but the shirts are a nice cut and run ~$60.

  3. Finally, though they are simple, I love my Clark's Desert Boots. I bought them recently and couldn't be happier with my purchase.

These three things all work as birthday gifts, they're all returnable, and they all look good on most guys. Check them out and let me know if you decide to go with any of them.
u/AlGoreVidalSassoon · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I've never heard someone associate so much stuff with cowboys. I think you're over analyzing it too much. First of all nobody associates wingtips with cowboys. Wingtips are primarily associated with business/business casual for most people. You can wear them casually with a dark denim and a button down shirt. You are right that the average person on the stret will probably think they're kind of "fancy", depending on where you live. I'm not saying you shouldn't wear them but just be aware of that. As for shoes that are "nice" but not "fancy" check out the MFA cliche Clark's Desert Boots or something similar.

As to your other points:

  1. Tuck if the shirt is too long (past your mid to upper crotch) or if you're wearing a dress shirt. Some people like to always tuck so it's also preference. Personally I untuck whenever I can (shirt is short enough) but I will tuck with jeans occasionally.

  2. "Hi there, cowboy!" doesn't literally mean she thought you looked like a cowboy. I take it you're not from the U.S originally? It's either a compliment or she was just fucking with you. You do have a valid point though that tucking in a plaid shirt can have a cowboy/lumberjack image to it. If you're not comfortable with that then untuck. If your shirt is too long then get it shortened by a tailor.
u/justanotherburner · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I was like you -- I only wore my running shoes or my birks for a long time. About a year or two ago, I got a pair of Clark's Desert Boot (src) at my friend's recommendation. Now, I wear them almost every day.

I went with the Beeswax Leather option: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WU8SBQ

In my opinion they are the perfect day-to-day shoe. I wear them with jeans and a tee, or chinos and a dress shirt, or anything else. If I'm not wearing a suit, I wear them.

Edit: You'll see them a lot on this subreddit... In the first 5 posts I clicked from this week's fit-check thread, two people were wearing them in their pictures.

u/BpooSoc · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

u/LardCanteen · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Is there a reason you have to buy them from that website?

CDBs are ~$90 on Amazon.

But yeah, those are the right shoe. They're super clean like that for a good three days until you beat them up a little.

edit: .au Don't hire me as a detective.

u/helius0 · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Serious question: When was the last time you found them under $60 at Amazon?

I've been monitoring (almost daily) Amazon's price on beeswax US10 CDBs since the last week of February, and have not found them that low. Barring a coupon code one of the minor sellers had for a few days (took the price down to the mid-$70s), they haven't been lower than Amazon's current price of $81.xx. The suede versions are slightly cheaper, and although I've been checking them less frequently (1-2 times per week), I've not seen them at the $60 level either.

Here's what camelcamelcamel says about the pricing on US10 beeswax CDBs. They also say pretty much the same thing about the taupe suede version too.

u/trafquake · 2 pointsr/FrugalMaleFashionCDN

I'd always recommend buying a solid automatic watch. Watches like MK, DW, fossil, etc, are cheaply made with Chinese parts and usually run on quartz and are meant to be replaced when they start to break down. Investing in an automatic can really ensure you have a great watch that will last.

Like mentioned, the skx007 is a great watch and will last you a lifetime. You can also mod this watch quite easily as well and the movement will last forever. Many watch enthusiasts love Seiko, myself included (have 3 will probably get more). Seiko 5's are also solid entry-level watches and many come in around the $100 mark depending on model: https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNK789-Automatic-Stainless-Steel/dp/B0018N0HL0/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=seiko+5&qid=1565104496&s=gateway&sr=8-4

The Orient Bambino is also a great entry-level automatic dress watch with a few different dial combos: https://www.amazon.com/Orient-Bambino-Japanese-Automatic-Stainless/dp/B01N45HWRM

For a cheaper diver, the Orient Ray/Mako lines are good as well: https://www.amazon.com/Orient-FAA02004B9-Display-Japanese-Automatic/dp/B01AK5TQXG/ref=sr_1_2?crid=K6K5EI9K3HA7&keywords=orient+mako+2&qid=1565104421&s=gateway&sprefix=orient+mako%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-2

If you can spend more you can look at Hamilton's Khaki line or Jazzmaster, Seiko Sumo or Seiko Sarb033, Sinn Watches, Chris Ward, Squale, Junker's Bauhaus or Max bill if you like the Daniel Wellington Style.

You can even look at used/vintage and get a nice Omega Seamaster for ~$500

u/Gomestradamus · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I love the SNK789, I wear it every day. I have about 6 different straps for it, I usually wear a NATO strap like this or this, unless I am dressing up a little more formal with a shirt and tie and nice leather shoes. In that case, I will use either a brown leather strap or a black one to match my shoes and belt.

u/NecessaryPrimary · 2 pointsr/Watches

u/wilson007 · 2 pointsr/Watches

I'd recommend taking a look at the Seiko 5 range. At their price range, you can pick one up and still have cash for a handful of straps. Here's one for example, but there's plenty to choose from.

Seiko Men's SNK789

If you like to two-tone designs, maybe one like this:

Seiko SNKM58

u/goatboy1970 · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

It's way too dressy for regular wear, and as someone already pointed out, it's a Movado clone, which is going to look cheap and make you look cheap. For an every day wear, look for something with a white face, a limited number of complications (like day and date), a silver or stainless steel case, and a stainless steel bracelet or black leather strap. Something like this.

u/ClosetedCloset · 2 pointsr/Watches

I don't think it's terribly big but it's far too thick for your hand IMO. I'd look for thinner options if you want an automatic watch with lume (the stuff that makes the dial glow).

Unfortunately, you can't really get an automatic for that low unless you look at used options. BUT, I'd give the Seiko 5 lineup a glance.

Here's a watch that perfectly fits all of your specifications, That is: Under $100, Automatic, has Lume on the hands, and it should fit your wrist size.

  • Seiko SNK789

    Here's another:

  • Seiko SNKL07

    And another:

  • Seiko SNKK47

I'd return it and keep looking around. The watch gave you a good idea of what wrist sizes you should be looking at. All of the watches above are between 36mm and 39mm respectively.

Look through the Seiko 5 lineup. Alternatively, look around the used market or try to hunt for deals when they come up. Massdrop always has watches for sale so it's worth a shot there. There's also /r/Watchexchange to buy watches from other redditors. You can't do much with $100 but if you try something good will usually come along.

This ;)

Okay, I can't pick just one, so I present you the following. As you'll notice, all three are practical items, but that's because most people would/could use them all.

Most comfortable keyboard I've ever used.

Best remote control ever. Seriously, this thing is easy to program and can be customized any way you want. It's only limitation is the 5 device limit, but that's still enough for most (even me!). This is the model I have, but you may find another model by the same brand that better suits you.

This umbrella is not only head-turning cool, it's also really great quality that's above and beyond what you would expect from something that looks like a novelty. It's even cooler to me because I actually do Japanese swordsmenship, and the other members of our club/dojo are jealous.

u/tcc1 · 2 pointsr/Watches

i think you limit your options a bit with dress + bracelet as opposed to dress + strap. that being said - something like the Seiko SNE039? https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNE039-Solar-Black-Watch/dp/B0043ZT04K

u/tomchuk · 2 pointsr/Watches

How would you be able to read the second hand without minute indices on the dial?

As far as the brand goes, it's your run of the mill, disposable quartz watch. Besides the steel case and bracelet, it's no different from your average $10 Timex. Personally, If I was going for a $60 bracelet quartz, I'd stick with something from Seiko or Citizen. This is a particularly good deal.

u/tbonesteak7676 · 2 pointsr/Watches

This would be perfect for you

u/fineday · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I have a Seiko one that looks decently similar that I love. Not the fanciest thing, but it's held strong for me for the last three years and shows no sign of stopping.

u/Hithard_McBeefsmash · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Follow-up: is it waterproof? I'm looking for a sexy silver+black watch like this. It looks ideal, but "Water resistant to 99 feet (30 M): withstands rain and splashes of water, but not showering or submersion" has me concerned.

u/BrackAttack · 2 pointsr/Watches

So I love this classic design. Seiko reissued this design for their “solar” watch. Here is an amazon link

https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNE039-Stainless-Steel-Solar/dp/B0043ZT04K

Myself, I purchased this new at Costco for $99 when it was released (thinking around 2009) and I love it. It hold its charge and keeps great time. It has been in rotation as a daily work watch. It is so classy and nearly perfect IMO.

It is such a classic. Grand Seiko actually used the same design for one of their versions: SBGT037 9F83-0AH0

u/TheGodsCola · 2 pointsr/Watches

Casio Sapphire LTP - has the benefits of a quartz watch with a dressy, minimalistic style and even has a sapphire crystal which provides much more scratch resistance over mineral glass.

Orient Bambino - There are many versions of the Bambino (my favourites being the gen 2 version 2 and the gen 2 version 1) available. These sport automatic movements over quartz movements, but they are so classy and are very versatile.

Seiko SNE039 - Not a commonly recommended watch, but this Seiko has the benefit of a quartz movement, and charges via solar energy. You can't get more versatile than black on steel.

Edit: Rather than looking for a watch that comes with a leather strap, buy a watch that suits you perfectly, and then buy a leather strap separately. You can swap the strap out yourself, or go to a local watch maker or jeweler and they could probably do it for you.

u/EquanimousTry · 2 pointsr/Watches

I'm partial to my own Seiko Quartz. :)

However, such a design has been used for another Seiko Quartz that's solar powered (like your examples, OP) at a very, very good price IMO: https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNE039-Stainless-Steel-Solar/dp/B0043ZT04K

In perusing this sub, I haven't seen a SARB033 of Quartz, at least nothing from Seiko that's 'universally' praised and focused on in the same way (if not Seiko, it's the Casio Edifice per u/WindexRemovers). Hope I'm wrong, but thought I'd chime in too.

u/skipsmagee · 2 pointsr/Watches

From what I've seen, Stuhrling has a reputation of being sub-par, hyped, and inflated. For a quality yet budget-friendly dress watch, might I recommend the

  • Citizen Eco-Drive BM8240-03E, $100, with a black face and black leather band. Eco-Drives are solar-charged quartz and can run for months even in a sock drawer. They are reasonably durable, and I own several models. Or if you're set on a metal bracelet, you could try the

  • Seiko Solar SNE039, $90, also a solar-charged quartz;
  • Seiko 5 SNK793, $60, an automatic that charges by the movement on your wrist, but only stores enough power for 40 hours; or the
  • Seiko Kinetic SMY111, $120, which uses a swinging rotor like an automatic to charge a battery that runs a quartz movement. It has a longer power reserve than an automatic, and is probably worth the extra money than that Seiko 5 SNK793.

First post here as a rookie, looking for advice on a few shoes:

- My Clarks Chukkas (https://www.amazon.com/Clarks-Mens-Bushacre-Chukka-Beeswax/dp/B004DCNN64/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1536692195&sr=8-3&keywords=clarks+chukka) have fallen apart (soles are cracked straight through) within 10 months or so and I'm looking to replace them with a similar aesthetic (i.e. brown/dark-ish, not black), but hopefully more durable. Any recommendations? $100-250 price point

- My original thought what the chukkas above didn't hold up due to water, but maybe they are just cheap since apparently the soles are rubber? Either way water gets in through the soles VERY easily. I was thinking of (in addition to the above) buying a boot that's better in the wetter weather. I want something that can be semi-casual and worn with jeans/chinos. I like the aesthetic of the AE Normandy Boots in brown, but i'm afraid they aren't built for the purpose (i.e. light-medium water/rain) since they have leather soles. Does anyone have any other recommendations that are similar within the $150-300 price range?

(What would be nice would be to eliminate the need for this second option and kill two birds with one stone with the Chukkas.)

- Lastly, I'm mostly settled on getting some AE Park Avenues in Dark Chili to go with a 3-peice BL Midnight Navy suit I am ordering. No question here, just pointing out. These won out over the darker brown or Oxblood options.

Thanks for the help!

To apply the mink oil I used a blow dryer to heat it up/essentially liquefy it, then used the blow dryer on the shoes to open the pores in the leather. Apply with a soft cloth, wait 15 minutes or so to soak in, then wipe off the excess. Let them dry overnight then you're good!

I would say that both Bulova, Seiko, and Citizen are great introductory brands for people who are starting to collect. Also do you care about automatics vs quartz?

u/AcidWorld · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Concerning the watch, Seiko have a vast collection of very faired price products. Maybe a white dial chronograph or a [diver] (http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKX007K2-Divers-Automatic-Watch/dp/B000B5OD4I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1397987212&sr=8-3&keywords=seiko+diver) ?

For the messenger bag, Etsy has plenty of products. This bag looks like what you're looking for, but there's plenty of other choices.

u/Blipetz · 2 pointsr/Watches

Any recommendations for a watch similar to the Armogan Spirit of St. Louis, but in a size of 38mm or less? I'm a fan of the font of the numbers and the day/date window. Illumination would be a plus, and chronograph isn't really necessary.
Closest I got through research was the Seiko SNDC31, but it isn't clear if the size is 38mm or 40mm. Also considering the SNK803, but the font isn't the best. Thanks in advance!

u/Sea-Queue · 2 pointsr/Watches

I suggest the Seiko SNDC31. Its cheaper even!

u/tigerbravo · 2 pointsr/Watches

I own the SNDC31 with the same 7T92 movement, and it has been very reliable for the last 2 years. The build quality seems very good for what you are paying. If you like it and can afford it, pull the trigger.

u/mivipa · 2 pointsr/Watches

You could obviously go for the first watch you mentioned.

u/Nixtrix · 2 pointsr/Watches

The Nautica brand is fine. They are known for their clothing, but their watches are made by the Timex group, whose name might be a little more prolific in the world of horology.

Some other alternatives I think may pique your interest and give bit of variety based off the Nautica would be:

  • Citizen
  • Seiko
  • Timex

Hopefully that helps and let me know what you think, I'll be happy to help you look for more!
u/SaneBRZ · 2 pointsr/Watches

You can check out Seiko or Citizen chronographs. They have some decent ones which are similar to the Fossil, are within your budget and have a case diameter of 40 mm. Here are just two you could take a look on:

u/DrHappyNice · 2 pointsr/Watches

I have this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004JY6X90/ref=pe_3187911_185740111_TE_item

It's a really nice looking watch, and works great on my smaller wrist. I find anything above 40mm starts to get uncomfortable to wear, and by 44mm actively painful.

It has a hardened crystal (though less so than a sapphire one). The strap is an area where they economised, though. I wore it exclusively for a couple of weeks to soften it up and now it's fine.

It reminds me of the omega dynamic, which was the watch I really wanted but couldn't afford to pay £1500 for a second hand one with no warranty.

u/ticktocktoe · 2 pointsr/Watches

Well in that case I'll echo what I said above. An all black watch, in my opinion, would be an interesting 3rd or 4th piece maybe, but I would not recommend it as a daily wear.

Here are a few Seiko watches in 3 different styles that I personally think will be better suited for daily wear. I also like seikos, they offer many solid options across the price spectrum, but they arent your only option:

http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SKS405-Stainless-Steel-Watch/dp/B00GX7NA74/ref=pd_sbs_watch_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1SY785GTYZH8T4Y4SCYS

u/Thestigsfatcousin · 2 pointsr/Watches

Honestly, I think what you get depends a great deal on your guys. You know them, we don't. That said, I'd be just as happy with this as I would be with the Seiko. Is the Seiko the "better" brand? Perhaps. But in that price-range, I feel like you would be just as well served by some of Casio's and Timex's offerings. I would also echo /u/Alex7302 and recommend Orient as an alternative brand to consider. I love mine.

Best of luck with your decision, and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

u/Citizen_V · 2 pointsr/Watches

This Timex Intelligent quartz (Amazon) has a similar color scheme, and is also a chronograph. It's own design too and not a homage to anything, if it matters to you.

EDIT: Parnis makers do have a homage to it.

u/CornerSka · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

That would be the timex intelligent quartz flyback chronograph.

Here it is on Amazon.

It appears that it's currently $150-165 at all retailers, however I remember buying it for $90. I'm unsure whether or not it goes on sale very often.

u/Alakazam · 2 pointsr/Watches

Honestly, I'm going to go against the grain here and mention some other really nice looking watches for just a few dollars more.

This casio world time is slightly above your price range, but is a really nice watch, from a reputable brand. It has dual time zones, and is radio-synced for guaranteed accuracy.

While everybody is mentioning the seiko 5, I much prefer the look of the Orient watches.

There's also Some timex chronos that I think look absolutely gorgeous, and are within your budget.

u/apbeir · 2 pointsr/Watchexchange

Timex T2N700 Intelligent Quartz Fly-Back Chronograph

Very little wear and in great shape. Bought it because it was a great deal, but just hasn't cracked my rotation. Selling at a good discount, as it's currently going for $85 on Amazon (cheapest I can find).

Will ship to anywhere in continental U.S. and provide tracking info. Venmo preferred. Thanks all!

I've been lurking here for a few days because I'm looking to acquire my first automatic watch and I think I'm ready to buy SNK795 however I don't like metal strap so I was wondering if something like this would suit this watch: link

I really don't want to invest in a cheap leather strap, but I may look for a good one later.

EDIT: format

u/GreenWaveGolfer · 2 pointsr/Watches

Seiko SNK795

Or honestly any other Seiko 5 watch. it's pretty much the go-to automatic on a budget.

u/lec0rsaire · 2 pointsr/Watches

These are all very cheap Chinese watches. I don’t have to see them up close to tell you that nothing there is genuine. Instead of wasting $100 on this you could buy a Seiko 5 like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-Japanese-Automatic-Stainless-Casual/dp/B0041LG08U/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?keywords=seiko+5&qid=1567199388&s=gateway&sr=8-15

Or this one:

Either will last a very long time and will be much better quality than anything in that lot.

u/Bulldog37 · 2 pointsr/EDC

That looks like the Seiko 5 SNK795 very solid automatic watch. Can't go wrong with an automatic seiko on a nato! Great carry

u/xxTriky · 2 pointsr/Watchexchange

The Seiko5 SNK line are all 37mm and about 7mm thick, which checks both of your boxes. The SNK comes in blue, black (linked below) and white.

37mm Seiko5

It's good little starter watch. Not quite as minimal as the Orient you have linked, but damn close.

The blue or white might be more unisex than the black.

u/sanweryn · 2 pointsr/singapore

You can get decent Seiko 5s on Amazon for a little over $100, usually $110 - $120 including shipping. You should go to stores (most shops carry Seiko) and see what size face suits your hand (38 - 40mm for most guys usually).
Seiko 5 SNK795 (Black face, 37mm) is about $110 including shipping. Check out Nomad Watch Works if you want to buy watch straps!

The problem is that every other Seiko 5 in your price range had a metal strap - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0058VJWTQ this would be ideal otherwise i think

I'm taking your requirement for it to last at hand so if I can't find an automatic, what about solar powered like https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000EQS1D8 or https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0043ZXIY8

u/b0rtmeister · 2 pointsr/Watches

I would recommend sticking to brands like Casio, Timex, Citizen, or Orient. Brands like Sturhling, Invicta, Nixon, Fossil etc. aren't quite as good quality and frankly won't be too well received here, not that you should care too much what other people think. Citizen makes really good pieces in that price range, check out these:

So the event came and went very well- a great Fourth overall, really, so I thought I'd share what I ended up going with, and say thanks for your help.
I was most attracted to this look (thanks, user tintinrintin), or at least the color combination, so I set out to create something similar. The Falling Down image changed my mind about short-sleeved button-ups (not saying I'll never give it a try but, once I saw that, it was all I could think of), so I decided to go with long sleeves and roll them up, which is a look that I already enjoy.
I'm a tall guy, so I can only shop at certain online retailers (and NO brick-and-mortar retailers). I went straight to Gap.com, where I usually have good luck.
I picked up 2 shirts: this one and this one. Long story short, the cut / fit of the 1969 shirt was terrible, and the sleeves were so tight, I couldn't possibly have rolled them up. the first shirt, the "Clean Chambray Shirt," fit great, and seems reasonably well-constructed. I'll likely buy another in grey.
Down low, I picked up 2 pairs of pants: these ones and these ones. Again- the cut / fit of the 1969s were terrible. I'm only slightly muscular (so far), and I could barely fit my thighs into these. I couldn't even bend over to get my socks on.
On the thread's advice I stayed away from boat shoes, but I still wanted something slip-on. I went with these. I ruined the great price by paying $15 for 2-day shipping but, when they arrived, I was happy with them, and the total price.
I tried cuffing the pants (do you call it rolling the pants when they end up above the ankle?) and, while my companions felt that I could pull it off, they preferred the way that the legs stacked on the shoes.
I picked up this belt mentioned in this article that Party-Mafia linked to, and I think it's a great, inexpensive belt.
Lastly, I wore this watch, which I've owned for awhile (and love), and one of these little guys because anchors.
Thanks for the help, MFA. I love this sub and I hope this crummy reply, in some small way, repays you for the help and inspiration that you provide me.

u/MrRedSeedless · 2 pointsr/Watches

I couldn't give it up! I want to be able to pass it on to my kids and have them wear the first watch I bought. I have a strong feeling it will be able to last that long.

Thank you! I knew there was a word for them, but didn't know for sure.

What would you recommend for tool watches? I really like the look of this Citizen BM8475-26E but the crown looks huge and I sort of want a chronograph.

About that price range, yes. Thank you!

Like these for instance. In some seriousness, some comfortable sweat pants and t-shirt would be the perfect mix of bedtime and company-"appropriate".

u/word_virus · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

There's not really any rules here and you're free to buy any shoes that fit your fancy whenever. CDBs and other brown/black dress shoes get recommended a lot as your 'first' shoes because of their utility. They're shoes that go with just about anything. It's hard to recommend crazy colors to people coming here seeking generic advice simply because they're hard to match with anything without knowing the specific contents of their wardrobe. If you wanna experiment with colors you should probably start with Converse/Vans because they're cheap and they come in any color of the rainbow, so you're not out a ton of money if they don't end up working out or are of only limited utility. If you want something dressier, I think you might like a pair of white bucks - these'll go great with all your pastels. And if you wanna get a little crazy check out the Cole Haan Air Colton. They make these in a saddle shoe and an oxford that you can get with some crazy neon details.

Edit because I fucked up the link format.

u/teachersplaytoo · 2 pointsr/Teachers

Clarks Desert boots

Bass Buckingham oxfords

Adidas Stan Smith

Those 3 are durable, offer a range of dress and are pretty comfy. Pair them with chinos, khakis or jeans, but not trousers or slacks. All 3 should hit your "not running shoes or anything too fancy" stipulation.

u/stone_sentinel · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Seems like you're looking for a pair of navy suede bucks. Bass is a solid brand and has a couple options like the Pasadena and the Buckingham. Check around for pricing, but they shouldn't run you down too much.

u/lopsided_louche · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

Of the two you linked to I'd take the Rockports but neither are good quality shoes. (or oxfords for that matter...)

You can expect about a year or two from a pair of Rockports/Eccos before they fall apart but they start looking old and clapped out within a few weeks. u/TheFranchize is right on the money with his suggestion of a decent pair of derbies on comfy crepe soles. A soft, rubber sole should also do the trick - from the Bass Buckingham on the lower end to the Sanders Jack on the slightly more expensive side.

u/AJ12AY · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I've been wearing sperrys mostly and want to diversify my wardrobe. Had my eyes on these in Grenata color, not sure if they aren't too crazy for what I have going. Are these shoes versatile, or should I go for something else? Are these too formal for casual wear? Kinda have canvas shoes in mind as well...

u/tossinthetrash22 · 2 pointsr/C25K

I hear you on the necessity to invest in a good running bra! A few years ago, I decided to get the one that Oprah always recommends and it is THE BEST. In case anyone is looking for suggestions: http://www.amazon.com/Panache-Womens-Underwired-Sports-Bra/dp/B005X5FG2O/

u/Supermal · 2 pointsr/bigboobproblems

It's hard when I don't live somewhere where I can try sizes like that on. I'd prefer to just keep ordering sizes like the ones I can try on that fit reasonably.

Right now I'm looking at this one by Panache, but it's such a pain to order it and send it back if it doesn't fit. And a disappointment, like this Shock Absorber was.

u/nottellingit · 2 pointsr/fatlogic

I have two of these and they're literally the best things ever. Unfortunately I'm shrinking out and they're hella expensive.

u/geekygirly · 2 pointsr/ABraThatFits

The Panache underwired sports bra: http://www.amazon.com/Panache-Womens-Underwired-Sports-Bra/dp/B005X5FG2O

I am a 30JJ and love Love LOVE this sports bra. The band is nice and firm, and the wires are very well padded and don't hurt or dig. I also love that it has a hook to convert the bra from normal to racerback straps (I find I need the extra holding power of converting to racerback after a while on a run!)

Have fun getting back into the gym! I'm just getting back into after the holidays too and it feels great to be sore (good sore!) after a workout!

u/superasteraceae · 2 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

Panache Sport comes in an ever-changing array of colors and patterns. The "boob-armor" style might not suit you, but you'll probably find a color that does.

Other options:
Freya (both Panache and Freya have more styles than just the one underwire version))
Shock Absorber (also look for different styles from them, and check out UK retailers for even more options than are available in the US)

u/tiffwilliams15 · 2 pointsr/ABraThatFits

I personally like the Panache Sport. I got it in my normal size (32FF) and it works great. First time I haven't had to wear two sports bras while jogging.

u/IAmASquishyBunny · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

Do you want a completely yellow sports bra? Panache has a great sports bra that comes in actual bra sizes, and the geo print has some yellow in it, but not an overwhelming amount. It's also just a fabulous sports bra in general, I highly recommend it.

The coral colorway (it's called Print Multi on amazon for whatever reason) has a nice bright but not neon yellow edging to it.

u/gweiler · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I definitely second checking the buying guide in /r/Watches

As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, you need to decide what you are looking for in a bit more detail. Is it a particular look or style? Is it an automatic or quartz movement? There are a lot of options even once you get these two aspects narrowed down. You can always buy the watch and strap separate as well, to get the combination you are looking for.

I personally have a Citizen Nighthawk on a black Hirsch Liberty strap and a Citizen Eco-Drive with blue hands on a brown Hirsch Liberty strap. These are very likely much cheaper than you are looking for as a grad gift, given the $700 limit listed, but the Citizen Skyhawk is closer to your limit and is really nice too.

When it comes to automatic movements, it will be quite easy to get to the $700 limit. Hamilton is a favorite, with both the Khaki Field and the Jazzmaster being good possibilities.

My only advice is to stay away from "fashion" brand watches. A little reading in /r/watches, particularly the buying guide and sidebar, should help you a lot.

Good luck!

Got it today, the second hand is off just a wee-bit, but screw it... Citizen will take care of that with a warranty should I decide to get OCD on it. But I wanted a watch with a white dial that didn't have too many unreadable complications. So I can wear this with a sport jacket and feel just a tad more fit style wise.

::all of the hugs:: I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandmothers. My family just had to go throught that with my Grandma's sister, who was just another Grandma to me. Her children and grandchildren are all drug adicts and/or teen parents so they were not taking care of her at all. All of her life she had been so frugal and taken such good care of her finances just so if something like this would happen to her, she would be cared for. However, her eldest grandson (my cousin) took her money and spent it all on meth/coke (we aren't exactly sure which) and pot, so all she had was my parents and my brother and I to take care of her with the limited resources that we had. It broke our hearts to watch he get worse and worse as she'd forget things and not know where she was. Alzheimers is the worst. I'm so sorry that your family is going through that.

You are a saint for helping to take care of your sister and her family at the same time that you're trying to take care of your grandmothers. Being "the responsible one" in one's family is really hard. :(

Right now what's stressing me out is my birth mother. I got a phone call on my birthday, of all days, letting me know that her alcoholic husband (she's an alcoholic too, I'm pretty sure that's why she married him) attacked her- though considering the physical abuse she meted out to my Dad and I, I'm sure her husband probably did not throw the first punch and is probably a while lot worse off than her right now- that she's getting a restraining order, and moving in with my (other) Grandma in the same town as me. She's an alcoholic, and abusive, and has more than one DSM-V defined mental illnesses and after 11 years of no contact, she wants a relationship with me.

The worst thing is that her mom is constantly guilt-tripping me to re-establish a relationship with her and Ican't do it. But my Grandmother is also paying for my school and I have over $10,000 due by 8/14. I'm so scared. I don't know what to do :(

::hugs:: and good luck. I hope it all gets better like you deserve. OM me if you ever want to talk.

Also, thank you for the contest- you really are a saint.

I've decided to get myself a solar powered watch. My issue is that I can't seem to nail down a good timeframe on how long they last. The closest I get is some forums that have people say "forever, mine's still kicking at 8+ years."

That's great, just not a definitive answer. I ask because if I want to get a model such as this one from 2012 (thanks to u/mochabear1231 for bringing this one to my attention the other day), I'd wonder how much life it'd have left.

Some of Citizen's more recent models interest me as well, but I'm trying to keep my options open.

Anyone have an idea?

Ahh ok yeah that makes a difference. There are a couple Citizen watches like this one that is a little more sporty like the Seiko you linked (pardon the Amazon link again...just for display purposes).

I havent checked if they have any that match your criteria but I know Long Island Watch ships to Canada for a $5 flat fee and I dont think they have significant price differences like Amazon does.

All else fails, there are companies that will buy the watch in the US and then ship it to you

u/TexasFight · 1 pointr/videos

that bulova is great but its quartz, if you don't mind a quartz watch it opens up a WHOLE slew of different options under 200$. If I was buying a simliar styled watch under 200$ and didn't mind quartz I would probably look at Citizen Eco-Drive watches, the quality is usually outstanding and the solar feature is fun and very useful.

Howdy /r/watches,

I have a buying question for y'all. I'm looking to expand my collection. Currently have an SXK009 which I love for wearing everyday, and this (http://amzn.to/2iXlD5I) Citizen Eco-Drive which I wear for more formal situations and will wear for work over the summer (currently a law student). I like the Citizen but it doesn't do much for my soul. I'm trying to keep my spend under $700 or so, and right now have been trying to decide if I should go for another diver or a little more formal. Also for a less expensive vs used and more established. Currently my main debate is going for a modern Seiko FFF mod from Yokobies (http://bit.ly/2iScomN) and tossing a Brady strap on it, or picking up a vintage Omega, probably from /r/watchexchange. Anybody have any good reasons for one over the other? I guess I'm a little concerned the FFF wouldn't be as good quality, or the Omega might be too small/not get enough wrist time. Thanks so much for your input!

You can also get a screen protector, which will probably minimize the appearance of the scratch.

u/cortexgunner92 · 1 pointr/Watches

You shouldn't really have to keep reapplying, just ensure its not completely dried out.

Toothpaste works really well but if you want to do it the "right" way there are compounds specifically for acrylic watch crystals https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Crystal-Scratch-Remover-Polish/dp/B00E3T237C/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?adgrpid=60131337830&dchild=1&hvadid=274688206065&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9033692&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=5485507384474224741&hvtargid=kwd-297471647921&hydadcr=27033_10760247&keywords=polywatch&qid=1572318335&sr=8-3

u/theorgy · 1 pointr/flying

I use a Casio MQ-24.

  • Dirt cheap (about 10 bucks)
  • One minute intervals
  • Clutter-free, good readability
  • Hasn't failed me yet
  • Light and cheap, so it's feasible to carry a spare if you want dependability.

I prefer analog watches, solely because in training we'd fly standard rate turns under the hood, and I find the motion of an analog seconds hand easier to relate to the heading indicator.

Only thing I miss would be something that improves readability in low-light situations.
u/Fuck_Salad · 1 pointr/Watches

Dunno if you've already got a watch, but I recommend this Casio. Simple, elegant, and cheap. I can't vouch for its durability though, because I've only had it for a month before I lost it at a concert :/

This $9 Casio watch. I don't own it yet but do you guys have any experience with it or have any fit pics?

u/MistaSchlong · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I have this watch (or something similar): http://www.amazon.com/Casio-MQ24-7E-Classic-Analog-Watch/dp/B00065FWR0/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

It was given to me when I was a kid 20 years ago by my cousin, who used it 7 years prior. Still works like it should. 27 years, going strong. Had to change the band a couple of times.

I suggest buying an older watch of the same model on ebay. It used to come with a metal face guard (mine has such a guard, and it has a black face, not white), and it was made in Japan (I think it's made in China now).

Note: I only use it when out running. I don't normally wear a watch all day, but I go out running every day. When I did wear a watch every day, several years ago, this watch took tons of abuse -- that's how I know it's a good watch to wear when working out.

u/QRS-Komplex · 1 pointr/Watches

If you can live without the digital chronograph, I've been perfectly happy with this one. Mainly because it's dirt cheap but reliable as hell. I always take a 60 second break between reps so I just need to quickly glance at the dial without having to set a timer or anything. Tried a Garmin sports band for a while but I went crazy having to flimsily navigate through menus - half of my rest was already over until I finally got to set the timer.

I also like that it's so small and weights basically nothing as I find wearing a clunky/heavy watch while working out distracting.

u/carteazy · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I do have other shoes as options, but sneakers usually look too puffy on my for me to be comfortable with them. Because of that, I'm trying to move away from normal sneakers.

I don't know why I tucked in my shirt in hindsight, lol I will stay away from tucked from now on. I did like the chinos, but you're right, the fit is definitely off. I'll check out Uniqlo and try my luck there tomorrow.

As far as accessories go, I ordered this watch yesterday.

u/Cringed · 1 pointr/Watches

Ok I need a recommendation on a watch for work. I never wear watches, this will be the first watch I've ever bought. I'm not allowed to be on my phone but I need to check the time often, so I want something simple, minimalistic, and trustworthy.

I've been looking at the Timex Weekender and the Casio MQ24-7E. They are both simple and seemingly reliable. Does anyone have a preference of one over the other? Any questions I need to ask myself that maybe I'm not thinking of?

Also any further recommendations for a similar watch style (minimal, black/white, cheap) would be great. Thanks!

u/meth_lab_for_cutie · 1 pointr/Watches

I don't know what the price is supposed to be, as it says 9999.99 right now, but that looks a lot like a Hamilton Khaki Field to me, but a bit more simplified.

The Hamiltons have a little more going on on the dial usually, but you can get a Khaki Field brand new for well under 500 USD. The dial isn't as simple on the Hamiltons as what you posted, but they're similar in design, have decent automatic movements, and are pretty decent mid-level watches IMO.

If you'd be okay with something with a date window...
Khaki Field

Not quite what you're looking for, but a much cheaper option with a similar style would be the Seiko 5 SNK809, which can be had for around $60 brand new.

Seiko 5 SNK809

I just bought a Seiko 5 Sports SNZF17K1, a step or two up from the SNK809 in Seiko 5's and I love it so far. But it doesn't look anything like what you want...

Seiko's 5 and 5 sport series are great, fairly inexpensive, automatic watches.

I've seen some reallllllly cool Soviet and Russian watches that are really simple like what you want, but I honestly don't know what to tell you to look for as far as those go.

u/Pliskin01 · 1 pointr/gaming

You can find some of this subs favourite watches here - all of them are under $150, because honestly, if you are going to spend more than that, you should probably do a significantly more amount of research. My personal recommendation would be a metal Casio A168 or MDV106 with a NATO strap

This is a problem im kinda having too right now. I currently wear a gshock but want to switch it up for something a little slimmer. Gshocks run pretty big for me (like 44mm+). Looking to buy two pairs of shoes...which fits the bill for a college student to wear casually with jeans?

Thinking of the classic beeswax clark db's
and maybe some oxford's like these?

u/aussiekev · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

Check this link. Looks like they're on sale to me. Also could anyone help me out with sizing on these boots. I'm usually a standard US11 and take a converse size9. Does anyone here know how true to size these are?

u/MTDearing · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I would stay away from Puma boots. Especially since many of those look like high tops. Here are some of MFA's favorites:

L.L. Bean Katahdin Iron Works Engineer Boots

Chippewa 6" "GQ" Boot

Red Wing Heritage Beckman

Alden Indy Boot

And of course Clark's Originals Desert Boots

Take a look at these. It's guaranteed that they'll look better initially, with age, and that you'll be able to wear them much longer.

u/DoctorReina · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Would the sand suede clarks be a stylish decision for a wardrobe of mostly black jeans?

u/dudethemood · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

The style is known as a chukka. A very popular option here on MFA is the Clarks Desert Boot, or CDB

u/immersz · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

I was looking at Clarks Bushacres on Amazon, and the beeswax leather does not look like it does on CDBs (Here are the Bushacres, and here are CDBs).

Is this a mistake from Amazon, or is the beeswax leather actually different on these two boots?

u/Jonoczall · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

lol you're probably looking for the particular type of Desert Boot. Here you go buddy. And if you're looking for something more durable there is the Clarks Bushacre Desert Boot. Same shoe different sole. I'm going to get me a pair of Bushacres soon.

u/SparhawkJC · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

Clarks Desert Boots are eligible.

Also all Allen Edmonds sold by Amazon.

u/armada127 · 1 pointr/RoomPorn

They look a lot like Clark's Desert boots. And if they're not, you should get these anyway because they are awesome.

u/Rorran18 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

The desert boots recommendation is great. I've got a pair that I get a hell of a lot of use out of.

A suggestion: go for the "Originals" Desert Boot, as opposed to the Bushacre. The higher quality and increased comfort of the Originals is well worth the price difference. Sometimes, you can even find them closer in price.

The Amazon price on the Originals is all over the place, ranging from $70 to $130 (source).

Either way, I find the "Beeswax" color option to be highly versatile and easy to care for.

u/gingerbeast124 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I got lucky and got them off Amazon for $67 in late July without the 20%. The price fluctuates quite a bit depending on the day and seller. I'd say anything under $80 for new is a great deal. Looks a bit pricey for it. Sportsmatic range of Seiko5 is from the 1960s so no telling the actual condition of it. Probably worth closer to £30 than £50 I'd say.

You can get Seiko 5s new for £40+. Just look at this one from Amazon. I'd say the Sportsmatic one is more for enthusiasts looking for that one in particular (they're from the very earliest range of Seiko 5s), but if you're just after a daily beater sort of thing then you might as well buy new.

u/cab1024 · 1 pointr/Watches

Seiko makes tons of Seiko 5 automatics with metal bands. Here's pretty much that for $75. Search Amazon for "Seiko 5".

u/watyousay · 1 pointr/Watches

It sounds like you're looking for what's broadly called a 'dress' watch. Slim, simple dial, white face, black or dark brown leather strap.

With a $100 budget I recommend a Seiko 5, possibly the SNK789, SNKK87 or SNKL41 with a new 22mm band.

Should be able to squeak in under $100 and will have something that looks like these.

After scouring the buying guides (thank you for those!), I've decided that I want to purchase a Seiko watch for my SO, but I'm stuck between these three options. I want to get whichever of these options is the best value. The first one is a solar watch, but one of the reviews as well as the lack of description made me wary that it might not be legitimate. The second is a Seiko 5 watch, but the Amazon description has different measurements than I've found for the same watch elsewhere, which again makes me wary. Do you guys have any advice for me on which of these three watches to purchase?

I bought a smart watch U8 its called( to celebrate losing 2 stone). Then last month, I decided to buy a proper watch for my birthday.

I missed out on a second hand, Seiko 5, on Ebay. Showed my friend, & he bought me a brand new one from Amazon. SNK789
Loved it, but since I missed out on ebay, they kept showing other Seiko 5's from India. So I bought another, just to wear daily, to keep the new one for special occasions, like the weekend.
Found this community, & I have been looking at other watches on Amazon & ebay. Damn! I keep buying watches now. I just bought a Casio Diver's watch

I got an old display cabinet from a charity shop, I volunteer at, to display all my old film cameras. But now, it has more watches than cameras.
I need to un-sub from here.

u/Kotanaru · 1 pointr/Watches

If you're only looking at field watch seiko 5s you're not looking hard enough

SNK789, for example

White is a wee bit formal though, and also maybe hard to go with other outfits.

How about black?

Hey, maybe you're feeling silly?

And it's not only the watch that determines the style of the set. Maybe you should think about perlons or bracelets for casual, or leather?

u/thundahstruck · 1 pointr/Watches

TL;DR: I'm looking for a recommended replacement for my Seiko SNK789. Preferred budget is $70; max budget is $120.

I need to replace my Seiko SNK789, which I bought after getting advice on this sub. I bought it on Amazon for about $68, and it came with a 2-year warranty serviced by Asurion. In early April, the watch started losing a few minutes a day, so I made a claim against the warranty. Asurion has taken forever—they claim that parts are on backorder—and they've offered to give me the purchase price, but they won't give me enough to buy the same watch, which is now $99.

So I'm wondering where to go from here. I could pay the extra $30 and get the same watch, but that seems like a lost opportunity to try something new. I'm not prepared to fork over $149 for the Orient Bambino. But I like the look of the Orient Symphony.

What does r/Watches think?

It's a Japanese quartz movement, so that's decent. I wouldn't say the list price is $590, more like $100 maybe.

Not a fan of the flashy red face and busy dials along with the metal bracelet. Personally, if I want a pop of color, I'll change the Nato strap on my Weekender, or I'll wear my Casio G-Shock.

Is it a good deal? To some, but not to me. I'd rather fork out an extra $40 for something like this which is much more versatile, well known, and probably more reliable.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys,
Today I’d like to offer up a few well-priced pieces I no longer wear. Prices included Con. US shipping. I take PayPal (F&F preferred) and have good feedback here.

Without further ado, here’s the photo albums w/ timestamp: https://imgur.com/a/YiEaH

Orient Mako Orange -$110 SOLD
The Orient Mako line is well-known for punching above its weight class, and the Orange dial version is probably my favorite (I prefer it to my Gen 1 Orange Monster). This iteration also happens to fairly sought after, as eBay vendors are asking $197 and up (there’s an Orient Mako XL for $148 for bigger-wristed folks).

This watch keeps good time and is good cosmetic condition. Crystal is flawless. Bezel (a common problem with Orient divers) clicks smoothly. Case and bezel inserts has minor use marks. Watch will come on the pictured Nato strap as well as the OEM bracelet that’s sized to 7” wrist. 41mm case x 22mm lug width.

Pics: Wrist shot 1, Wrist shot 2, Closeup, Lume shot

Citizen Eco-Drive AT0200 Field Chrono - $65 SOLD
This is a popular and well-reviewed field watch, and for good reasons: almost fool-proof Eco-Drive tech, one of the more legible chrono dials I’ve seen, robust lume, and nice touches such as the red second hand and matching red WR100 text. 39mm x 20mm.

My sample is well-kept and in good cosmetic condition. Crystal has a tiny hairline scratch near the 2 o’clock marker. Cases has normal wear marks. Caseback is spotless. Watch comes on an unworn NATO band.

Pics: Wrist shot, Closeup 1, Closeup 2, Lume shot

Seiko Solar SNE039 - $58 SOLD
I love mechanical watches as much as the next guy, but it’s nice to have a grab-and-go quartz when you’re in a rush; if said quartz watch requires minimal long-term maintenance due to being solar-powered AND also bears a tasteful design, all the better! This was almost my exact rationale for getting this watch, only to receive something similar from the Mrs soon after that I end up wearing instead.

Watch is in near mint condition and bracelet comes with all links. Please refer to this Amazon product page for more information. 37mm x 19mm

Pics: Wrist shot, Lume , Closeup

Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your time.

Some basic characteristics of the most everyday watch you can get: no flashiness, silver-colored metal only if there's any metal, simplicity in design, lightweight, and any kind of band except black leather.

Some of MFA's most often mentioned basics: The Timex Weekender, the Timex Easy Reader, and Citizen Eco Drive(you would probably want to replace the black watch band with a brown leather one).

You're not limited to these, however. Some personal favorites are the Orient Sky, the Orient Union, Skagen, and Seiko.

Don't take my examples as a firm limitation, however, there's literally hundreds of good watches out there.

u/reportingfordooty · 1 pointr/Watches

Check out Seiko Solar. Reliable, solar powered, stylish, thin (10mm), metal bracelet, ~$100.

u/I_heart_snacks · 1 pointr/Watches

Tell us a little more about what you are looking for! From the watches you mentioned, it looks like you want a black watch. Are you looking for something sporty, classy, or just an all around daily? Are you looking for something simple, or something with a lot of complications on the face of the watch? Ill link a few for reference

Seiko 5 I would change the strap to something that appeals more to you if you don't like it. Great starter watch though.

Invicta Pro Diver Ive heard some debate on the quality of these watches, but for your purposes I think it would work well.

Casio G-Shock Solar Sporty solar G Shock similar to the one you linked.

Seiko Solar Another Seiko but this one is on a metal band and is solar powered.

Timex Weekender Another great starter watch that comes in a million color combinations. I got one for my brother as a gift off Amazon for $17 when they were having a sale.

I don't spend a lot on my watches, so it's probably my nicest one. I've been eyeing Hamiltons, but I can't seem to pull the trigger. I can afford it, but the reason that I can afford it is that I try not to buy things I don't need.

if these are your "moccasin style dress shoes", then what you're looking for are chukkas (or the "desert boot").
I've got a pair of those clarks, and really like them, though the soles are a super weird soft rubber material that will wear at the edges and darken quickly, but they find a balance pretty quick, so you don't need to worry about eating through the sole super fast.
I also just picked up another pair from CK, which have a much nicer sole, but are super narrow for my usual tastes.

u/Hash-Basher · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Yes, or a Clark's Bushacre 2, which is what I have.

I leave in two day, and I'm confused about if I need to bring my own running shoes or not. I know that the shoes that I need to bring need to be closed toed, but they don't have to be running shoes because running shoes will be proved? If that is the case, will it be ok to bring my boots Clarks desert boots?

u/KiwiLicker · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

The ubiquitous Clarks Bushacre 2 is worth mentioning, because you can grab them for less than $70 shipped in the US. I usually wear holes through the soles of shoes within 6-9 months, and while those holes have started showing up at the 10 month mark, the upper is fine even though I don't really take care of them. It's not uncommon for the Bushacres to be on /r/frugalmalefashion for $65. Journeys and Macys carry them for $79-$120. Let me know if you want pictures.

Florsheim and John Varvatos offer some options with a dressier look around the same price, though I can't offer any first hand experience with them.

Browsing through /r/goodyearwelt may be of benefit to you if you're looking for high-quality, made to last footwear. Goodyear welting means the upper is stitched to the midsole, so when the sole wears out a cobbler can replace it. These shoes tend to be pricier, starting around $200 new for the decent stuff with the diminishing returns coming in around the $800 mark for most people, but in general, you get what you pay for.

Here's a great article on chukka options to look into should you decide to spend a bit more.

u/alphamini · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Would mink oil also be a good fit for the type of leather used on the Clarks Bushacre 2 in beeswax? If so, would it make them a darker brown? I love the boots, but I do wish they were just a tiny bit darker.

I'm sure you're familiar with them, but here are the exact ones just in case.

u/Ebolabomb · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I've been planning on buying the Clarks Bushacre Desert Boots but I'll be travelling to New York in the end of December, and I wanted to know if it can handle, cold and wet weather? Is there anyone who's tried them out before and can vouch for them?

u/ojchahine6 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I will keep this in mind for my next purchase although are you sure you have your information correct? Both the original and the Bushacre 2 DBs are said to have crepe soles. The color I wanted was available in both styles but the Bushacres were half the price.

I am looking for a watch for my father.

We found a few watches that he likes, but are a bit too expensive. Here they are: C3 Malvern Chronograph MK II, Tissot T0636171603700.

This one already has too much stuff on the dial.

So I'm looking for a watch with a chronograph, pretty clean dial and that's not too big (45mm is too big). And the budget is 200 Euro, (~220 USD).

u/jarec707 · 1 pointr/Watches

Good points. I'd love your further thoughts on a companion for the Bambino. I'm partial to beige and cream dials, like a calendar, and prefer simplicity but am open to a good looking not too flashy chronograph, like this 38 mm Seiko Seiko Men's SNDC31 Classic Stainless Steel Chronograph Watch with Brown Leather Band https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004JY0KP8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_WF44ybGASF23T. Zeppelin is made by PointTec, which also makes Junkers watches. They are fairly well respected for a budget pricepoint. I'm not sure which particular model appeals to you, but you might also like the look of the Orient Symphony, Esteem, or maybe the Monterey. Seiko also has the SNDC31 and SPC131P1 that you might like, both of which are quartz.

u/Peechez · 1 pointr/Watches

If you compare this link to the amazon one in the OP though they look different. I can't tell if it's just the straps and different lighting of the face or if the colour of the face is actually different.

I looked around and apparently the P1 means made in Singapore so they pretty well have the same model number

I'm looking to buy a watch that I can use everyday -formal,casual setting with minimal maintenance. I haven't used a watch in years so there may be times when I won't use a watch. Based on the buying guide, I feel a Quartz watch may be better suited for me than an Automatic. I can't really finalize a watch from the list. Your advice/recommendations will help!

I have the same watch in black dial version. Great watch for the price. The fly back chronograph is amazing.

I would like to buy a watch that is affordable and durable, i like the style of chronograph watches, and prefer black leather straps, here are some options i was looking into, but have no idea which brands are best bang for the buck
Fossil Del Rey Chronograph Leather Strap Watch CH2972
Seiko SKS495
Casio Men's Edifice EF503L-1AV
Seiko Men's SNDC33
Fossil Grant Chronograph Leather Band Watch FS4812
Fossil Decker Chronograph Watch CH2573

which one of these/ or other than these do you recommend?

u/flarpy · 1 pointr/Watches

Take a look at this:
http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNDC33-Classic-Leather-Chronograph/dp/B004JY6X90/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412323557&sr=8-1&keywords=sndc33

I just picked one up and i'm quite happy with it. Might not be what most people would wear with a suit but it's definitely doable and a somewhat versatile watch, in my opinion.

u/_speznaz · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Take the #1. Its the most versatile of all. Black coated cases will wear out over time and look cheap and destroyed.

For everyday wear I personally would prefer a steel bracelet, but this is up to you. Chronographs are "casual" or "informal" but you could dress them up by adding a good leather strap (if possible with a butterfly clasp).

Take a look at this: it's fas is inspired by Fortis watches (these are famous for beeing in the outher space).

I also think you #4 looks way better with the black face.

u/daksa67 · 1 pointr/Watches

This has quite a sale now, from 250,to 90usd on amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNDC33-Classic-Leather-Chronograph/dp/B004JY6X90
Id say it looks quite similar to yours, only lacking the steel band, but I'm kinda sure you can find it somewhere.

P.s next time, firstly would advise using the buying guide from sidebar. This exact watch is from it. Just pick your price range, look at models and throw them in Google - might see some good deals on spot.

u/Time_Ferret · 1 pointr/Watches

I don't know the IWC line so well - does Spitfire refer just to the chronograph with the gray sunburst dial that I see on image search? If so that might be hard to replicate, but there should be a lot of good black dial chronographs in your price range. Like this Seiko, or this one, this AVI-8. Maybe you could find a used example of this discontinued Citizen.

Well thanks all for the ID.

Bad news (well not bad, just news) is that i can get it cheaper in Canada, so I'll be putting htis purchase off for a few months when I return.

I was hoping that it would be cheaper in Japan; it would have made a great souvenir.

u/illegal_dripp · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I'm not sure about the suit, I am currently getting one made by Indochino but my first jacket had to be remade, I have heard other negative reviews about them too. It is cheap though.

For a watch I've seen a lot of nice seiko and nixon watches on amazon for under $300. The seiko watches seem to be more classic and the nixons are more modern looking.

u/jmorlin · 1 pointr/Watches

How about this Seiko

I like this much better than the one I was looking at, although this is double the cost of it.

According to r/watches, I'd stay away from any watch brands not known specifically for their watches. Try this one, more value for your money and smililar in style.

If you liked the dial and didn't care so much about the perpetual calendar, Timex have these ones in a few different colours.

Yeah, the Waterbury is a pretty classic look. Personally, I'd suggest the Flyback, but I have a taste for slightly eccentric watches.

Good afternoon r/watchexchange

Looking to sell my Timex Fly-back Chronograph.

Purchased off eBay about 3 months ago; loved the design and functionality of it, but I am currently trying to move away from quartz movements. Specs are included in the Amazon link below:

Timex Men's T2N700 Intelligent Quartz Fly-Back Chronograph Brown Leather Strap Watch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0053EXKFK/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_BGbxDbXHKA5AF

This particular model is not for sale anymore; but the closest model retails for $93.

Band was replaced with a darker leather one to suit the watch better.

I am looking for 70 shipped CONUS. Thanks for looking.

u/condor_gyros · 1 pointr/Watches

Timex T2N700 is also a decent choice. Most of their Intelligent Quartz line look pretty sharp, and are good crossovers between dress and rugged.

u/luckynumberpi · 1 pointr/Watches

Repost from an old comment of mine, but still relevant.

I originally got started with a Citizen Eco-Drive chrono. Mine still runs after 10+ years, and looks great on a black leather strap with white stitching.

It's solar powered, and Citizen's solar tech is crazy good. After a year in a box it starts ticking the moment it comes out, and with regular exposure to light it'll just keep going. No battery changes needed, and it has quartz precision. Like I said, mine is over 10 years old.

That's where I recommend starting – simple, hands-off operation. Only once you've started to develop a budget and a more genuine appreciation should you venture into the land of automatics. Going to college you definitely want to be on time, and you don't want to have to care about setting the watch every time you don't wear it for a few days.

Though I don't own any myself, Timex is a reputable low-cost vendor to consider as well. Their Expedition series is nice, as well as the some what odd Flyback. If you happen to be into pure digitals, then Casio is the king.

u/praetordave · 1 pointr/Watches

How about the Timex Intelligent Quartz Flyback? This is a really cool looking watch, it has indiglo (lights up on-demand), comes in a bunch of different colors (the black looks super cool), and would look decent on a nato strap. Plus, I'm pretty sure it would be in your price range, with the conversion.

u/pour_grammer · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I was looking into getting a watch and had this in mind. I'm not very knowledgeable in the watch market. How does this compare to similarly priced items? Any in particular that might be better? I'm looking for a watch that I can wear in various situations and settings.

How about the Timex SL Intelligent Chrono series? I just bought one and I find them very unique, and a good value at the price range. They come in a variety of styles and colors, too. On amazon, they're mostly $100-150, so you should be able to find one in your price range.

I know there's the kind of "main 5" styles of watch: dive, dress, pilot, field and race. Obviously not every style fits into one of the 5, but I've noticed a lot of watches in the style of the Orient Stingray or Seiko 5 SNK795. I wouldn't think of them as dress watches, but that seems to be the closest thing. Is there a name for this style?

Thinking about something mildly similar to the style of the Bambino, perhaps you could get a Seiko SNK795 (38mm) at $68.99 (according to Amazon), then invest in a leather strap. You could get a really nice one like this 19mm Hadley Roma and still remain well under $200, maybe even well under $200. I think it looks great, and the Seiko 5 series is known to be good and reliable.

u/IminPeru · 1 pointr/Watches

I'm just starting a watch collection (I've been meaning to since last summer so it's not as impulsive as one would think) and I'm hoping to buy a few watches around the $200~ price range.

Currently own:

  • Fossil Grant Automatic and I really enjoy it. Don't really have any complaints about it, I enjoy looking at the mechanism move.
  • I also have a few $20 watches that i wear casually.

Looking to buy (want to get as much variety and total budget around $600):

  • Sternglas Naos (Either black or white dial), I wanted to get a Bauhaus and this one looked really good, i've not heard much about Sternglas but what I have heard is that it is high quality. I'm only thinking of the quartz version since its $100 cheaper and I can buy more watches with the remaining money).
  • Swatch Skin Irony (Not sure which one). I know swatch gets a bad rep sometimes, and I was considering the Sistem but I've seen a few bad reviews on it and how it feels cheap so i feel iffy about it.
  • Orient Bambino (Not sure which one). I was considering getting the Version 4 Blue dial but it might look a tad cheap. Thoughts on the 2nd Gen Version 3 blue dial?
  • Seiko SNK795 I have a $20 Titan that looks similar (but needs a new battery).
  • Citizen Chandler (Grey), Corso (Silver/Gold), or Black/Gold. All 3 look really nice and Citizen has a reputation for quality.
  • Timex Weekender as a daily beater watch that I can wear when doing something more active or when I get my hands dirty.

Among those watches (or any other suggestions you might have), which ones should I look to buy? Also if there are any Youtubers/reviewers I should follow to be in the know, that'd be great also!
u/ertaipavlov · 1 pointr/LifeProTips

There are plenty of great automatics under $100.

I'm looking to pick up my first entry-level luxury piece ($3000-4000 ideally), and I'm leaning towards Speedmaster Pro. I also can't stop thinking about how awesome the Black Bay Bronze is, but I'm not sure its as versatile. Anyone have any other suggestions?

My current collection is:

u/Muddpup64 · 1 pointr/Watches

I was need some help deciding on a entry-level skeleton watch.

I did some digging in the side bar but could not find (with the exception of one or two) any good skeleton watches. I've always had a fascination with those style of watches and would like it to be my style of choice for my first watch.

Edit: To give you a better idea, I was wanting a skeleton watch with the characteristics of a dress watch. Slim, shallow, not bulky, dark leather strap, black, mechanical, and with the face missing to see the functioning guts. Imagine this: Citizen Eco-Drive Men's BM8475-26E Stainless Steel Watch with Leather Strap https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005MKGOOY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_o6hYxb55G7QEW , but with a skeleton face.

This watch would be something that I would wear everyday, with or without dress clothes. And something I thought would be really neat if it was also to be a diver. Sometimes I can be in rather unfavorable conditions (ie water), so for it to be water proof would just be unbelievable.

Thank you guys for your time.

u/NormalVector · 1 pointr/Watches

This Citizen watch has a similar typeface with some extra bells and whistles (day and date). It's quartz with a battery that recharges via ambient light. I don't have any experience with Citizen but this sub is always recommending them.

u/Gopokes34 · 1 pointr/Watches

How about something more like this
Or this
You can shop around find maybe some better prices, and you can always change straps pretty easily.

u/shoasa95 · 1 pointr/minimalism

This is what I wear daily, with a NATO strap. Casual enough for daily wear, but I can change the strap for a more formal attire. It's got the date on there, water resistant to 330 feet. And, it's solar powered, so you don't need to buy any batteries. I really like it. Cons are, it's a little thick, a little heavy, and it CAN be susceptible to scratches. But I never notice it.

u/HD_piss_jugs · 1 pointr/Watches

Context, budget, and desired features
I am a mid thirties dad, with a desk job in the maintenance field. I work with my hands very frequently, am outdoors a lot and I normally dress casually. I will wear colored shirts once in a while, and often wear jeans or khaki shorts. I have a fossil watch with a bracelet that I got as a gift about 10 years ogo and quickly stopped wearing it after I got a cell phone. I'm sick and tired of pulling my phone out and being chained to it. I tried a smart watch, but I'd much rather live a simpler life with my EDC. I would like a watch for every single day, in the future, I could see getting a piece with more bling for dressier occasions. My budget is up to $300, but I'd rather be around $200, so that I'm not too hurt if it gets broken or lost.

Movements
As of now I am gravitating to non battery operated due to the cost of battery replacement with a water resistant model costing $70 to keep the guarantee. I realize that I can do it myself most likely, but I want a quality piece, and don't want to mess it up.
I don't mind solar.
Romantically I want a auto, but would prefer one with a winder also.
I'm worried that I would forget to wind a mechanical.

Size
My wrist is around 8 1/4 inch. I prefer a 38-42 mm.

Wanted features
Black dial
A simple face that is not busy
Replaceable strap
Date
Sapphire crystal
Brushed, not polished body
I'm not sure how bracelets work, I don't mind as long as it can be switched out to a nato.
*A black body would be nice, but I'm concerned about the looks of scratches showing though.

What I have looked at
Timex Men's T49961 "Expedition Scout"
I like the looks of this watch a lot, but the overall quality is lacking.

SEIKO 5 SNZG15J1
The only thing that I don't like about this piece is that the numbers are not placed at the outside edge near the bezel.

Citizen Eco-Drive BM8475-26E
I'm not a fan of the large numbers and the painted body will not likely hold up.

Citizen Men's BM8180-03E Eco-Drive
I really love this piece other than the polished body

Hamilton Khaki field HML-H69419363
This is a front runner other than being on the small side of my preference and me forgetting to wind it.

Hamilton Khaki Field Auto #H70555533
This I like, although I would need to buy used.

Are there any other that you can recommend? The only place that I've really looked is Amazon. I cant seem to find a better retailer.

u/GoldenTaterSalad · 1 pointr/Watches

I got this watch from my grandmother for Christmas, and while I love the thought and I like the face of the watch just fine, the faux leather strap really doesn't do it for me.

I'm curious what you guys might recommend for this face? Would a bright orange NATO strap look stupid because the color of the oranges might be just a bit off? What about a black strap with an orange stripe? Or something completely different. Would love to hear your suggestions.

Thank you!

Citizen Eco drive or Orient Defender? Or something else with a similar style, preferably pvd, with day/date, around $100-$200?

Hello, I really like this watch and the price but would like a different color. I’m looking for a similar color scheme as this watch , more of a dark watch with blue trims or highlights while still having luminescence. Is there any watches that fit this description or should I just settle for something. Any help would be incredibly appreciated

Edit: even a version of this where the orange spots are blue would be amazing

Watch works just like it's supposed to. Keeps time as if new.

There is a very noticeable scratch on the face of the watch, Tried to get a good shot of it - visible in at least the first 3 shots.

I don't have the original leather strap. IMHO it was kind of junk anyway. This NATO matches the watch so much better anyway - it should come standard.

I really like this watch and the combo, but I've moved on and a g-shock is now my daily.

Price is $120 shipped CONUS.

Based on the options you've included I'd suggest some suede bucks. Also, those Toms are hideous.

u/Spandax · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

I just want something to wear with a button down. But i think if I do go for I will get the bass ones from Amazon they seem like a good price and quality because I don't really want those hard leather ones. I like these http://www.amazon.com/Bass-BUCKINGHAM-Mens-Buckingham-Oxford/dp/B005PMNDWA

u/akaneel · 1 pointr/TeenMFA

Bass buckinghams? They have black but I'd go with Navy or brown since they're much more versatile.

CDBs/Bushacres are okay too, like the guy below said, it's debate. Nobody's going to really care.

I'm looking to buy a pair of shoes or boots to go for a business casual look.

I recently bought these pants from JCrew and I'm having some trouble trying to pick a color to match. These are the shoes I'm looking at, and leaning towards the taupe or grey option.

I'm also looking at the Bass Plano Boot in taupe, but leaning towarsd the bucs right now.

http://www.amazon.com/Bass-BUCKINGHAM-Mens-Buckingham-Oxford/dp/B005PMNDWA

Jeans are very dark. Which brown do you think would work best? I'm leaning towards the Taupe Suede.

u/asianfuntime · 1 pointr/TeenMFA

the shirt is too casual for a banquet. try getting an ocbd to keep it a bit casual, but still formal enough.

the pants you have aren't even chino. they're styled in a 5 pocket design and from the looks of it, looks like jean material.

these are cheap but still suitable for a banquet. even if you don't have a banquet, you can still wear these. versatile.

also no bowties unless this is an extremely formal event.

u/RaWWtF · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

You could go for some Bass Buckinhams

Or the bulbous version the Brocktons

Both are pretty good quality and the price isn't too bad either.

u/ProcastnationStation · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

Maybe Bass Buckingham would be appropriate? You can get them in brown, and a taupe suede version might work too.

I feel like some [L.L. Bean Camp Moccasin](https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/10587?page=mens-handsewn-moccasins-camp-moc0 or G.H. Bass Bucks would work really well for you.

u/fivehournap · 1 pointr/frugalmalefashion

1901 oxfords or bass buckinghams? In terms of quality? The bass bucks are cheaper though. (not sure which color i'd get though). However, I have a $40 nordstroms gift card that i could use too.

I've been looking for some casual shoes that i could wear to work (college job...not that formal) but were a step up from sneakers. Hoping this fits the bill.

What colors are generally the most versatile?

u/wisstig96 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

You can go with a derby shoe like this one from [Bass] (http://www.amazon.com/Bass-Buckingham-Mens-Oxford/dp/B005PMNDWA) or a casual sneaker. I'm wearing Converse IIs and on top of looking as great and classic as ever, they're super comfortable. But Stan Smiths, Puma suede classics, Vans, etc. are all good choices.

u/Straffick · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I'd say the most versatile brown shoe that can be worn with pants or shorts would have to be something like some Bass Bucks in Taupe. Some white Vans Authentics would be nice if you want to stick to tennis shoes, but you can actually dress up the Tan Bucks if you need to.

u/dylan424 · 1 pointr/TeenMFA

Chuck Taylors - high vs low in white? My friend says I need to get high but I really want the lows. Also, opinions on these in grey?

u/lheurebleue · 1 pointr/braswap

Hey! Is the Panache Sport in the color that Amazon calls turquoise/lime?

Any chance you'd be interested in a beige 28DD Panache Porcelain?

u/turmoli · 1 pointr/ABraThatFits

Ah, this is more complex than I realized it would be!

I will purchase a 28FF this weekend and see how that fits and if I can get used to it.

I've seen a lot of people raving about the Panache sports bra. Do you have any experience with this brand, and if you do, do I keep the 28FF as well?

Thanks so much!
I'm already intimidated because I just looked up VS bras, and they don't even list band size 28. Or bigger cup sizes for smaller bands. This will need some shopping around, yeah shopping!

u/basylica · 1 pointr/ABraThatFits

Most bras use the UK sizing when you are in the post DD size. There are a few exceptions.

Bravissimo has huge selection, as well as figleaves and amazon carries a lot of them. If you want to try on IRL nordstrom will carry your size in most stores.

If memory serves (see i dont even remember because UK sizing is king) 32K = 32H which is one band and cupsize larger than me. You have a lot of options but for me i prefer panache (particularly cleo which is a sister brand) bras mainly because they cater to smaller bands and deep (vs wide) cups.

Next step is figuring out you breast shape and trying on bras. Fyi after 20yrs of cramming myself into too small bras my initial size worked until i had the mythical “tissue migration” and went up like an extra cup size so i would warn you about buying a ton of bras initially because boobs can sometimes inflate after years of being compressed ;)

I really like the panache cleo marcie, its been my goto for several years (and sizes) now. But i probably tried on tons of sizes and styles over the years. But if you are full on top its a great place to start and has come in a rainbow of colors over the years.

Amazon isnt a bad place to start ordering bras because of free ship and returns and there are lots of shapes and styles.

Try a few and post fit results here (you dont have to post pics, just this fit great in this way but didnt work because of this...)

Odds are good you will need a deep cup vs a shallow one because generally H cups are. So panache is a good place to start. Freya is another brand (i found the bands were not firm enough when i tried them, but this was years ago) bravissimo has their own line of bras, curvy kate makes bras in your size (ive never tried them as ive heard they run wide and shallower, but i cant say for sure)

You can literally search 32H bras on amazon and scroll through options.

Goddess comes in US sizing, and a couple other brands but UK tends to be the popular big boob bras. The brits definitely have us beat bigtime on better bras ;)

https://www.amazon.com/Panache-Womens-Underwire-Sports-Bra/dp/B005X5FG2O

These can be pretty compressing so i preferred going up a size ie 32H when i wear a 30H in other bras, but id start with your size and go up if you need to. Just be aware of sister sizing. Ie 30H = 32GG = 28HH. Go up a band go down a cup, and down a band go up a cup.
So 32H = 34GG is one band bigger but same cup. Confusing but bras can be ;)

https://www.amazon.com/Panache-Cleo-Marcie-Balconnet-Bra/dp/B00BKZXPZ6

https://www.amazon.com/Panache-6951-Jasmine-Underwire-Bra/dp/B01N9DCFV7

Id highly recommend using a unlined cup bra like marcie or jasmine to find correct fit. Lots of girls want/are used to foam cup bras but they dont mold to you like a “cut and sew” bra and make it hard to diagnose fitting issues. There are some foam cup and spacer options out there in your size but id start with the inlined for fitting purposes first.

Check out bravissimo’s site too and filter by your size. The options will for sure blow your mind ;)

u/bustybluestocking · 1 pointr/ABraThatFits

My experience with sports bras and gymnastics (which has it's own 360 concerns) has led me to search for the elusive racerback encapsulation DD+ bra. Racerbacks are only style I get support, good distribution of pressure and full range of motion in, while encapsulation personally feels much more comfortable then compression. Both the Panache Sport and Freya Active (which are very popular, so give them a try too) have j-hooks which are completely inadequate and a bit flimsy.

I've temporarily settled on the Bendon Extreme Sport. It's a cup size small for me (only goes up to a G, alas!), but the best fit I've found: great top and side support, convertible straps for a true racerback and really strange wires (they have a sort of swoosh shape when worn) that somehow work. Worth a spot on your list for sure.

I bought this Citizen off of this sub back in March. I thought it would be a fun beater watch, but honestly have only worn it once or twice. I'm looking to sell it to put towards a new purchase. I bought it for $90 and it is listed for $146 new on Amazon. The watch overall is in fairly good shape, however the crystal is scratched between 12 & 4 o'clock. They are very light so only show up in certain light/angles. It might be able to be polished out.

Asking $90 $80 OBO shipped to CONUS, I'll absorb paypal fees.

Make sure you fit yourself properly first. Once you find your size, figure out your shape - different bra shapes will support different boob shapes, surprisingly. Get some glass polish. It doesn't "remove" the scratches, but it will remove glass around the area enough so that the scratches don't stand out.

Link of an example

u/dubbin64 · 0 pointsr/minimalism

Most "minimal" quartz watches have <10 USD movements in them so what you are paying for is fashion. These are the MVMT, Daniel Wellington, Nixon, Fossil, ect. You can buy them if you like the way they look, there is nothing wrong with that, but know they are built fairly cheaply and marked up to +$100 for no reason other than fashion. You can checkout DHGate and buy a fake DW watch for $7-12 from China that will be identical in quality to the actual DW watch, and could potentially even come from the same supplier! (not recommending, just commenting)

It really depends on what styles you like and how much you want to spend.

Watches I would recommend that are in my opinion minimal:

Casio Men's A158WA-1DF.
Its not super aesthetically minimal, but its ultra cheap, I think it is relatively stylish, impeccably reliable, easy to read, good features (light, alarm, stopwatch, long battery life). This watch got me through a year aboard a Nuclear Submarine and served me well as an alarm clock, stop watch, and time keeper. It dresses up and down very easily, and I wore it to dinner in foreign ports as well as in the engine room taking logs on equipment. I still have it in my rotation. At 33mm thick, with an 18mm band that tapers, this watch has a very low profile, minimal wrist presence. For 12 bucks you cant not want one.

Junkers Bauhaus
Much more expensive, especially for an entry level piece, but very well made. Mechanical, Japanese movement, built in Germany, certain to impress watch enthusiasts and normies alike. Its automatic, meaning it does not have a battery, and a mechanism winds the watch up due to the movement of your wrist throughout the day. This also means that if you dont wear it for a few days it can stop running, but all you need to do is give it a shake and set it again to get it going. There are some quarts models by Junkers that are cheaper, also even some models with Automatic Swiss movements, worth taking a look. Some cool features this watch has are the power meter, so know by how much the movement is wound as well as ability to perform as a 24hr watch for military time. Easily made a dress watch but good as an everyday casual watch as well. 41mm case, so it will wear very modern (ie large).

Sieko 5
This watch is not as minimal in the aesthetic sense, ie the face has more than just tick marks at each hour, and it has both day and date functions. It is another automatic, and I will argue that it is still pretty minimal. At ~50-60USD is is a perfect entry level choice for a first automatic/mechanical watch, and comes in several colors. Well made for the price. At 37mm it wears much smaller than most popular fashion watches (one of the reasons I recommend it as a minimal watch). It will suit you in both casual and fomal settings, and will appeal to both watch nerds and every day people. Not gaudy or pretentious like a Swiss made, gold piece, but it has some character and soul. I would recommend if you buy this watch to also pick up a band, as the one supplied from Sieko is uncomfortable and unattractive in my opinion. The watch will do well on a Nato band, or a light tan leather band (check out the amazon reviews user photos)

Casio Men's MQ24-7E
Another Casio, not as versatile since it is very casual, but undeniably minimal. Very similar to the watch worn by the Pope. If you want ultra cheap, reliable, and analog this is a good choice.

There are many, many other good choices out there. Good Luck, and I hope this helped!

u/OneLegAtATime · 0 pointsr/Watches

Not as sleek, but this can be returned a bit easier.

u/Mediasurvivor · 0 pointsr/Watches

Seiko makes a version of the Seiko 5 that looks very similar and is an automatic, so you don't have to worry about battery life.

u/HugoChavezRamboIII · 0 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I swear I'm not being facetious, but this one is pretty awesome.

Now, I know you're thinking 'that'll look stupid' -- but that's because you're thinking with your critical hat on. I bought one of these this time last year (was sick of crappy collapsible umbrellas always breaking), and have received countless compliments. The fact that it has a samurai handle isn't immediately obvious, and the people that do notice think 'heh, that's pretty cool.'

I know this is MFA, but consider this; have you ever seen an unfashionable samurai?
