I use the Airtight Cold Brew Iced Coffee Maker that I bought in Amazon.

I grind my own coffee coarse (like for French Press). Last couple of weeks I’ve been using Starbucks Espresso Roast, but it’s usually some kind of dark roast coffee.

I fill the filter in the middle of the pot almost to the top. Then very slowly pour filtered cold water through the center (as per instructions). Once the pot is filled to the “max” line, I put it in the fridge for 24 hours.

When done, I refilter it through a reusable/permanent fine mesh filter into another pitcher. This gets out any remaining fines.

I love it. It’s very smooth and delicious. I drink it over a little ice with just a dash of half-and-half.

This is the one I have, but I paid $150 for it. Looks like a lot of companies make them.

At home I make my coldbrew in a regular pitcher, and strain through a stainless mesh strainer like this. No clogging, but you do have to pour the contents of the pitcher into the strainer instead of just letting gravity work like most of the coldbrew systems out there.

When I'm traveling I either use a metal mesh strainer that fits inside a mason jar, or a nut milk bag (and yes it's fun to say "nut milk bag"). In both cases the coffee grounds are in the straining vessel which sits immersed in the water, and when your preferred amount of time has passed you just lift the straining vessel out slowly and then discard the used grounds.

Well, I’d recommend something like this to knead or you can get an AluBall for medium grind kava. For around the house items...pantyhose or cheesecloth would probably do an okay job till you got the right strainer. YouTube “how to knead kava.”

Don't buy either of those. There isn't enough room for grounds. See how with one like this the mesh part takes up most of the container? That's what you want if you're going to do an insert thing.

I have the zell mason jar insert, which works fine. I also have a Toddy system, which works well for a bigger batch.

You don't need anything fancy. Sometimes I make the slurry in a mason jar, filter it once through a mesh kitchen sieve, then filter it a second time through a paper coffee filter.

Here's a 1 gallon jar, and filter for about $25.

This is what I bought. Remember that the coffee and filter will take up some of the volume, so in reality you don't actually get the whole thing full of coffee.

u/ginmartini2olives · 2 pointsr/coldbrew

Any type of coffee should work. I bought this a few months ago and it makes the best cold brew. 12 hrs on counter and 12 hrs in fridge. It makes enough concentrate for me for a week. I've tried all kinds of beans and different grinds. Finer grind is better.

I've tried the nut bags and they are just messy.

I freakin love this pitcher.

Looks like Soulhand Cold Brew Coffee Maker. Honestly I have never heard of it before but it reminds me of some siphon cold brew setups I’ve seen before.

Edit: it’s on Amazon

I make the cold brew (not a concentrate, more like a french press style), usually about 16 hours. Then I just put it in the nitro keg / growler thing and pressurize it with the N2O cartridge. I dont use a cream dispenser, this is a specific pressurized keg thing meant for making nitro cold brew. It's under the brand name "royal brew" sold via Amazon, it's super simple and not much of a "recipe", just a process really 😁

There is a brand called nitropress that makes one specifically for n2. I couldn't tell you if it is any good others in this group might be able to. It does come with a nozzle similar to the stout taps that help.

Another option is going something like they are a bit fiddly and hard to fit in your fridge :D but they work and allow you to use an actual tap https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TYZ9TG9/

u/deflime · 1 pointr/soylent

I use this fella but there are similar alternatives.. https://www.amazon.com/Primula-Cold-Brew-Coffee-Maker/dp/B00K8881QO/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1485820204&sr=8-19&keywords=cold+brew

You can also just try it out with a big jar and simply sift out the grains with a very very fine sift if you have one.

u/zeeyah · 1 pointr/Coffee

Bought this 2.0L Pitcher. Larger than most of the other cold brew pitchers (lasts the whole week for me) and the filter is super-fine with no sludge. Little more expensive than some DIY suggestions here but the time saved is so worth it if you're doing it every week.

The Original Cold Brew on Tap... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074G53B78?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

I bought this, and it's worked pretty well so far. I want to get my grounds more coarse, but it's tough to find a grinder that'll match the coarseness of my hand grinder. It's not that bad to do it manually, but it is tedious.

u/Midnight_Rising · 1 pointr/Coffee

So I got one of these for making cold brew coffee and each time I've made it it's come out tasting like coffee-flavored water. I get this cold brew roast from a local roaster, so I'm pretty sure I've got the right kind of coffee. But what kind of grind and how much should I use? Last time I used about 2 cups of beans at the coarsest setting my grinder would go at and that really did not do the job lol. So if anyone can help me that'd be super.

u/nittanyRAWRlion · 1 pointr/coldbrew

I use this mason jar and these bag filters. I fill up the filter bags full with fresh coarse-ground coffee, tie it, plop it in the jar, and let it sit 12-16 hours. It has turned out well with the few beans I've tried, yields a concentrate that I dilute 1:1 with water.

I used to use the steel mesh filter that came with that mason jar, but it lets through fine particulates from the grounds. You can probably get the jar for less, but you could probably use that and just pour through a filter without using the bags.

So... mess around with what you got, if it's too strong, water it down. Doesn't have to be a perfect science as long as it tastes good!

u/kovak · 1 pointr/Coffee

I came across the "let it sit" part too when i was looking at some products to buy. So perhaps it makes a difference.

Eg. https://www.amazon.com/Coffee-Stainless-coffee-System-Choice/dp/B07437VFCT/

The quick start guide mentions

> Shake the keg. Then, put it in refrigerator for more than 1 hour.

u/primacoffee · 1 pointr/Coffee

The essential elements for serving nitro coffee are:

  1. a stout faucet

  2. a nitrogen source (bottle or cartridge) with pressure regulator

  3. a keg of some kind

  4. coffee of your choosing

The nitrogen is inert and doesn't contribute any flavor to the coffee, but it does dissolve into the coffee and helps create smaller bubbles when served. However, without a stout faucet, you won't get any real head. The keg is just there to hold everything under pressure. All told you'd probably expect to spend around $4-600 on a whole kegerator setup, or you can try to find simpler all-in-one keg systems like this to save some money, though they can be a tad cumbersome for a standard fridge.
u/Tyzan · 1 pointr/Coffee

I personally like this kind of cold dripper cause it looks really nice. Or This one. Also another advice for her birthday would be to get a really good bag of beans from a local roaster, any coffee snob would appreciate that!

u/torys42 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I got two of these... really like them, no need for buying additional filters... easy cleanup...

u/ilovebrandonj · 1 pointr/starbucks

I’ve tried a lot of different kinds. I quit in September but still have maybe 8 bags of whole bean of all variety of roasts. I think I’ll try double strength next time. I also have this but I don’t really know if it changes the taste?

u/CottonHill2341 · 1 pointr/coolguides

It’s a slender glass pitcher prob 5” across and like a foot tall. It has a v shaped mesh insert that holds the grounds. I’m sure the French press works just as well but I didn’t have one when I wanted to start doing cold brew. Below is a link to the one I have.
