Looks like the sales of these are going to go way up!
It's a lock box to store a spare key for the car.
Like this kind of thing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HR01VJA/ref=psdcmw_511382_t3_B0002YP1VC
Tell anon he should get a ice cream lock
https://www.amazon.com/Ben-Jerrys-Euphori-Lock-Combination-Protector/dp/B00ENRK812
I use one of these if I really need to make sure I'm not unplugged, or if I'm using my own EVSE in public. I'm not sure if all EVSE handles have the little hole under the button you need, however. But it'd be a huge dick move to lock the cable to your car at a public station if you're not going to be back to the car as soon as it's done charging.
Why not just leave a note next time saying "ok to unplug after xx:xx"? Or if you're going to go with a combo lock you could also leave a note so someone could contact you and you could provide the combo if you're away.
You can get an [English dictionary] (https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Book-Safe-Lock-Blue/dp/B078HLCFFT/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1549080889&sr=8-3&keywords=amazon+basics+book+safe+-+key+lock%2C+small%2C+blue) Just make sure any toys you get is small enough to hide in it.
If you have a back pack you can also keep this book in there.
No. If you really want one, you can pick one up at Amazon for less than 10 bucks. Interestingly enough, you can also get them that go to 9,999 for cheap too. They even come in metal, are produced better than you would be able to pay for, and have multiple other uses.
I have one of these in my closet, and I lock it with one of these speed locks. That way I don't need to look for a key or fumble with a combination lock in the middle of the night. Secure, but easy to do just by touch.
I highly recommend that you trade out those 3 smaller combo locks for ones that are a bit stronger. Yours appear to be the same size as the ones I used to use and they are easily broken open. All you have to do is firmly grasp the lock and violently jerk on it and it pops right open. I've personally tested it out on both of these locks....

For the tougher luggage style locks you can wrap 550 cord around the lock and use that to get extra power behind your pull.
Just wanted to give you a heads up. Good luck on your trip!
It's totally feasible. Check this out. The only real difference between your design and this one is that the end cap can be removed when the lock is open, the rings pulled off, and their orientations changed by the user. Just buy one of those locks for some "research".
Ah that's awesome people are going to love it. I would make the difficulty low, and the time limit 15-30 minutes, so you can move people in quickly and they can enjoy it, rather then feel frustrated. Also you have to think of how long it takes you to reset all the locks. (maybe ask them to put all used clues in a bucket
My suggestion for a theme would be Zombie Apocalypse, you can find decorations at any party store or on Amazon. The mission can be to save an injured classmate trapped in the other room.
My idea is make the room very dark(maybe no natural lights at all). Give everyone lanterns and/or flashlights. If the lantern has settings turn it on the lowest one. They have to figure out to turn the lantern all the way on to make it easier.
First clue should be a key hidden in a pretty obvious area. That key opens the first lock. Opening the lock gives them a cipher. Hide lamented cards with numbers or letters to a combination. On the lamented cards have dots or symbols that correspond to the cipher. Once they put the cipher and the numbers together they should be able to open their second lock.
The second lock should open a box with a flash light with a black light bulb. They will use the black light to find their next clue. Since your in a school I would recommend using student I.D. cards. Write the combination on the I.D. cards with invisible ink. This will get them through the first door.
Once they are through the first door I would have multiple puzzles to work on, maybe a crossword with your school related answers. Bold five boxes in the crossword, those boxes are the answer to the alphabetical pad lock. (if they are smart they will only find the answers needed to fill the bolded boxes and ignore the rest of the crossword)
That word lock opens a box with a piece of paper that says =12. In invisible writing on the walls are different algebraic formulas like (^ +=13), (^ x #=2), (#+^ =%). (So *=12) (^ =1) (#=2) and (%=3). So the final combination to get out would be written on the door (^ ,#,%) or (1,2,3).
Some side notes. I would only give them one black light and one dry erase board, so unorganized groups will be slowed down. Also it's cheaper.
For the "locked doors" just wrap a bike lock or and rope around the handle and explain no doors will be locked for safety reasons, but to succeed in their mission these locks have to be opened.
Explain they get three free clues. Give them a walkie talkie, so they can call you in.
To add a little more stress to the situation and add to the theme I would bang on the door periodically and make zombies sounds. This will scare some, adding anxiety and confusion, but will also make people laugh and bond.
If you have a group waiting have them come up with team names and aliases.
Create Posters that say things like "I escaped" or "I was the brains of the operation" for people to take group photos after they escape or not.
Good luck and I hope you post photos!
> she wouldn’t want to do that unless things “got any worse”.
Nothing is worse than scarring your credit report for years due to this. It will take her at least 5 years to have good credit enough for a car, an apartment, and a credit card without a ridiculous interest rate.
They make ice cream locks. My husband got me one while we were renting from my dad. Yes my 56 yo father would steal my ice cream.

> Have a spare kit in your car at all times.
^^ This is important. Part of my routine is stopping at the gym on the way home from work. Can't go home 'till I hit the gym, that's my rule. Doesn't matter whether I hit the weights hard for an hour, or just walk on a treadmill for 20 minutes.
Exactly what's in your kit isn't so important, as long as it includes everything you'll need when you're at the gym. Here's mine:
I like this combination lock because I'll never forget the combo:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009V1WMA
I have used the Master Lock 1500iD for a couple of years. It's very easy to use. It's a directional combination lock.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B002TSN4SQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
We just installed this for a spare key
https://smile.amazon.com/Master-Lock-5423D-Button-Mount/dp/B00BOSMTD8/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1497554936&sr=8-9&keywords=key+vault
I also forgot. Locks!
Three locks to bring (remember this is to discourage, and should not be considered true security, but it does help)
Master Lock 4688D TSA Accepted Cable Luggage Lock
The TSA lock. Works great to lock your bag, or when you're in a hosel with really small lock eyelets when the bigger lock wont work.
Sesamee KCR0436 Chrome Plated Marine Padlock or Master Lock 178D Set-Your-Own Combination Padlock
I personally use the Sesamee because it's a lot stronger and harder to bypass (the Master Lock has a well know bypass technique) but if you're on a budget either will work.
Bosvision Ultra-Secure 4-digit Combination Lock with 3 Feet Retractable Cable
Ignore the title, this is not "Ultra-Secure" but it is nice to use to tether your bag to a physical object so it doesn't walk away on you. I would do this on the train so I could fall asleep not having to worry that someone could just grab my bag and run. Could they cut it? Absolutely. But it stops the people who are just looking for the opportunity to grab something and run.
I work out at a pool. I generally just toss my bag on the bleachers and swim. Anyone could walk out with my keys, phone, everything. They just... don't.
That said I do know a thing or two about locks due to my profession. And locks... only keep honest people honest. This is the only kind of lock I've ever met that I couldn't shim. And I did eventually get it apart - though not without some time, effort and specialized tools. Also I was trying to save the lock itself. If I'd just been willing to use a bolt cutter I'd get through it in ten seconds.
But you don't have to run faster than the bear, you just have to run faster than your friend. If your locker isn't the easiest to hit, they'll likely hit someone else's.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HR01VJA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_nGO0Bb61DW0MR
tough one, I just tried it with a very small travel lock (similar to this) and it didn't fit through the opening on the metal part of the zipper pull. Putting it through the paracord would be pretty pointless. I think the only thing you could fit through the zipper pulls would be a cable lock. Better than nothing, I suppose, but not very safe..

Don't worry, Ben & Jerry have got you covered
> I am telling you NOT all combinations of text are possible through automation of ANY kind including brute force random number generation
All combinations up to any finite length. Per
wc -c
, the Project Gutenberg works of Shakespeare file I downloaded is 5,589,887 characters long. So let's take a nice round six million as a target length. Now consider a combination lock like this one, with four dials on the bottom. Since every dial can take one of 10 values (digits 0-9), four dials gives us 10^4, or 10,000, possibilities. Yes, random sampling, given enough time, would saturate that set of possibilities. The probability of any given one of those 10,000 options being chosen is 1/10,000. An infinitely long process just randomly choosing settings will open the lock eventually. We don't need random sampling to get any number, rather any number in a finite set of possibilities.
Now mentally consider a lock whose dials also have letters and punctuation, plus a space. There are 95 printable ASCII characters, and we chose a target length of six million characters. So there are 95^6,000,000 possible printable ASCII files 10^6 characters long. A big number, sure, so the probability of any specific outcome is 1 over that number, just as before. A small probability for each number, but still non-zero. Any non-zero probability converges to a probability of one as the number of tries converges towards infinity.
Consider too the ordering. Any ordering of his works would still be his works, just in a different order. Per Wikipedia's page,
>>His extant works, including collaborations, consist of approximately 39 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems
39+154+2 is 195, and there are 195! ways (the factorial of 195) ways of ordering 195 works. That's a pretty big number, 2.59 x 10^363. So that many of the 95^6,000,000 possible 6-million-long-character ASCII files would still constitute being "the works of Shakespeare."
I'd recommend reading The Library of Babel, in this collection or this one by Borges for a great literary exploration of this idea. For a more rigorous approach to the mathematical ideas Borges explored, I'd recommend the fascinating book The Unimaginable Mathematics of Borges' Library of Babel.
Call CPS on them.
Report the neighbors kids are always unsupervised and explain how they break into your yard and throw rocks at your house.
Locking all your gates is a necessity here. I suggest getting a simple combo lock so you can quickly open without a key.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-178D-Set-Your-Own-Combination/dp/B0009V1WMA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469887015&sr=8-2&keywords=combo+lock
If you want to get fancier and can install a deadbolt on your gates then this is awesome: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O4OV318/ref=twister_B00QQ8KLK4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Get a camera for your outside, backyard, gates, and front. This way you can record them trespassing and you can record them stealing your packages. Cops will have to act with video.
Definitely put up no trespassing signs.
In that case, the padlock is not strong enough for storing valuable items like the laptop or camera. Those wheely deals are not secure at all. One of these would be much better.
And require all ice cream be locked with one of these
4 digit number that everyone has. It's not the most physically secure. But it's semi-hidden and would be a pain to break into. This is it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GTQU5E/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
We also don't label the keys with client identifiable info in case they get stolen or lost.
This master combination lock fits the bill of what you're looking for. I would like to point out a couple things though:
A special note about the lock I linked. I own one. You can spin the three wheels quickly with your index and thumb fingers to find the right combo for an open in about 5 seconds. Hence why I say Master locks are barely better than, well, a twist tie.
> combination lock for your hostel locker
Also, don't buy a regular Master combo lock. The shackle might be too big for the hasp they use on certain lockers. I use one of these. It won't keep hardened criminals out, but it works on most any locker, but can also lock your bag.
My buddy uses one of these
It has a little more room in it than some of the other solutions I've seen on here, and it seems to be fairly robust.
Holy shit, Ben & Jerry's actually has one.
Here is everything I have
STR8 Brand 8" Weather Resistant, Smellproof, Lockable, Glass Protector, Outdoor Carrying Case for Multi-Purpose with Pre Cut Grid Configuration Foam - STR8BRAND (NITRO GREEN) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0719WWYGL?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Master Lock Padlock, Set Your Own Combination Lock Luggage Lock, 13/16 in. Wide, 646T (Pack of 2) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004Y8DQ?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Herb Lab Smell Proof Container - the Stash Box - Airtight/Discreet/Lockable Security Lid - Odor Lock System keeps your Smoking Accessories Hidden and Secure when Traveling. Mini Stash Case Included! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071HWCV7Q?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
I got the second box for my vape pens and tinctures so wouldn’t have to open my green box with the weed inside the house. My wife is not a big fan of weed smell.
Get a couple of these, and put them inside your locker. Makes finding things in the middle of the night much easier. I also had one in my rack for reading with, the normal rack light was just too bright.
Doubling up on curtians is nice, but people will probably steal them at some point. A much safer plan is to take the existing curtians, take them to a tailor out in town, and have them add a layer or two of cloth. After that, put them back in your rack, and put a small screw in the track that they hang from. With that $0.05 piece of hardware, your curtians are safe from all but the most determined of berthing thieves.
Also, these padlocks were phenomenal. They're opened by sliding the button up, down, left, or right. No fumbling with keys or squinting at combinations in the dark. I had mine set to a quick up-down, and could have my locker open and be halfway dressed by the time my neighbor was spinning his padlock to the 3rd number.
Edit: One last thing, get a small carabiner to hang your loofah or shower sponge from your towel bar. Keeping it in your locker or stuffing it at the foot of your rack is just begging for mildew.
So they should sell these or these as well, to make way more money.
You could use a combination cam lock like this
Combi-Cam 7850R-L Combination Cam Lock, 1-1/8 Chrome Finish https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000W7DBWA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1ExcBbHJB04SK
If you have crossbars with a square cross section on your car roof you could use something like this for your keys:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C2B243G
I like this one because you don't need to carry a key, and you can perform the combination easily even in the most delirious of post-workout fugue states.
I rarely lock up my whole backpack but almost always lock my passport, backup credit card, and any other valuables. Yeah, lockers do vary so I tend to carry two sizes: a standard school-locker type and a smaller option. I tend to use the smaller one more frequently as it can also be used to lock the zipper on my backpack during bus journeys or in the absence of a locker.

As others have said though, the lock is really just a deterrent and won't stop anyone who is really determined to get into your stuff, but it's about the least you can do regarding security so it's worth it. Typically hostel thefts are crimes of opportunity and most would-be thieves are just going to look for an easy target.
Something like this TSA Luggage Locks (2 Pack) - 4 Digit Combination Steel Padlocks - Approved Travel Lock for Suitcases & Baggage - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0114C1TM0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_k.KXAb4AFSJVC
It won't fit the big stuff mind you
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078HGD5SN/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_sJUtDbGQK26MV
If you have valuables you don’t trust your roommates with you can buy a dictionary safe
Most likely I don’t think you’ll have an issue with stealing. If they start stealing your stuff, you start stealing theirs
https://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-178D-Combination-Padlock/dp/B0009V1WMA/
Sounds awful. DH had a friend over and he helped himself to my kitchen with out asking if the pregnant lady had plans for this food.
If he isn't leaving soon, how about an Ice cream lock?
case + locks = locking case
They make ice cream locks for pints!!
https://www.amazon.com/Ben-Jerrys-Euphori-Lock-Combination-Protector/dp/B00ENRK812/ref=asc_df_B00ENRK812/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=231273170391&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9069759995377434376&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9005097&hvtargid=pla-391364198860&psc=1
You gotta get one of those Häagen-Dazs locks.
Edit - actually it's a Ben and Jerry's lock, but probably fits any pint:
Ben & Jerry's Euphori-Lock Ice Cream Pint Combination Lock Protector https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENRK812/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_zmi9Ab77BP2ZS
Mine were $30 each, the heavy duty real estate agent ones.
These:
https://www.amazon.com/Kidde-AccessPoint-001166-Portable-Titanium/dp/B000CEMQLK/ref=sr_1_10?
I don't know any bypass or decode for the Master Lock 1500iD Speed Dial. It's not the most rugged lock in the world, anyone with bolt cutters could pop it, but it does use a mechanical hashing function for the combination that is clever.
Maybe someone else here knows one?
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B002TSN4SQ/
Maybe you should invest in one of these.
They won't stop your brother from being a brat, but you can rest assured your ice cream will be safe.
Ahhh condoms, I forgot about that.
The locks I have are...
The AC adapters I got them from my parents.
The alarm clock was a 99 cents add on when I bought stuff on amazon, so I got one just in case.
The cable lock is for tying my bag onto something so I don't get jacked while on a train or wherever I am going.
On the return policy - you're right, they allow for return if there's a defect... there's absolutely no satisfaction guarantee though.
The lock they include is this: https://www.amazon.com/Combi-Cam-7850R-L-Combination-Chrome-Finish/dp/B000W7DBWA/ just in black. Is yours different? That little metal tab is meant to keep your desk drawer locked - not something I'd use for this type of application.
The boxes that are chained to your seat frame are like $30-$50. For $270, I'd expect better. As for how long I leave it unlocked - sometimes the whole time I'm in the car? Since it took up my whole console, sometimes I'd leave it unlocked to get to paperwork or while there's no firearm inside.
The fact that it's designed to fit and installs in minutes was the big appeal to me - and that's worth a lot. I installed it in like 5 minutes. That said, my current vehicle doesn't have an application specific box and has a huge console, so I think it's going to get this one on one side of the inside of the console with a custom bracket to affix it to the same bolts that hold the console in place: https://www.amazon.com/Fort-Knox-Personal-Handgun-Pistol/dp/B015D82XAS
...they're only like $15 on amazon
Reminds me of this fine product:
http://www.amazon.com/Ben-Jerrys-Euphori-Lock-Combination-Protector/dp/B00ENRK812
I've just used cheap indoor locks and replaced them after 3-4 years when they get hard to use.
Got about 3 years out of this one.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000ONVJ2G/ref=pd_aw_fbt_60_img_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=Q12DPP0D751GS1XX2J0P
for gym lockers
Everyone seems to have answered your questions to some degree. I'd like to make a further suggestion.
You van get something like THIS and mount it somewhere secure outside. This way you don't need to worry if you do forget your keys and the keypad is nonfunctioning.
This a good one?
Something like this..http://www.amazon.com/Sesamee-KCR0436-Chrome-Plated-Padlock/dp/B004FF4SCM
Less fussy than the middle school dial combo locks.
Buy this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HR01VJA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ST7ODbFP2V4BT leave it somewhere hidden your relative can find and give them the code
Ah ok. That changes things, but it also brings up other possible issues like power going out. Back when I was looking at locks, I thought about putting a lock box like this hidden somewhere in case my smart lock ever died and putting a key in it. That way, there is no possible way to get locked out.
Looks like there is slight DIY option called "electric strike". You could look into that. Not sure how it'd handle changing access codes for new guests though. Have you read about what other AirBnB hosts do? There's got to be a commonly used solution
I got one of those they are great. You can just put extra long screws and some kind of spacer to get them out farther. (I used small plastic pipe as the spacer)
Also I got these https://www.amazon.ca/Combi-Cam-7850R-L-Combination-Chrome-Finish/dp/B000W7DBWA
Just make sure you buy the right sized one. Much easier than only one set of keys.
It's not perfect but it will keep the rif Raf out.
A full enclosed rack is better if you can do it of course
https://www.amazon.com/WordLock-KS-052-BK-Stor-More-Storage-Black/dp/B00C2B243G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1497062913&sr=8-1&keywords=word+lock+box
Is this what you are looking for?
Here you go!
Ben & Jerry's Euphori-Lock Ice Cream Pint Lock
Both of you, get one of these, place it in a cabinet and disguise it as a book! Problem solved.
Unfortunately I don't think that there's another solution that would produce an acceptable result. Personally I'd measure the thickness of the door and shop for a new lock to suit.
Here we go, from Amazon:
Cam Lock
Available sizes For Material Thickness:
5/8" cylinders fit up to 3/8" material
7/8" cylinders fit up to 5/8" material
1-1/8" cylinders fit up to 7/8" material
1-3/8" cylinders fit up to 1-1/8" material
Also I'd suggest a set of These which make measuring things like this really easy and they are cheap!
This off amazon. Seems like it should be sufficient
You can also get them like this where the loop goes securely over the doorknob. That way it's not permanently installed anywhere and your landlord has nothing to say about it.
I would definitely get a lock for your gates. My neighborhood isn't the best, and I have a 4 digit combination lock (much more secure than a round combination lock), along with a fake camera. It looks super real though, and that has stopped packages being stolen from my doorstep (lol). Most likely a thief won't risk being caught on tape. I'd try that first and see if anything else goes missing.
This one works great for quick transfers outside a house or warehouse ;)
https://www.amazon.com/WordLock-KS-052-BK-Stor-More-Storage-Black/dp/B00C2B243G
Can even set the combo to "pill" or "drug" lol
Interestingly, that Amazon page linked to a Master lock that looks like the one he broke into
That's where I got the idea! I thought, wouldn't that look funny with a giant padlock...
There's no way someone is going to take the time to cut a metal lock off of a zipper? If they are that skilled to cut a metal lock they must need my stuff more than I do
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00004Y8DQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1496419412&sr=8-13&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=luggage+lock
Something around 10-20$ would be good. I am just really paranoid because someone broke into my locker once and when try to do research for locks, there were only guides to cracking them.
I decided to buy this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004SQLH/ref=ox_ya_oh_product
