For 6 small pots, maybe a clamp light set up would work for you. Something like this, with this kind of bulb. The key is to get about 2,000 lumens per sqft if you want really tight growth and sunstress colors, though you can certainly go lower.

If you think you'll need more room, then I highly recommend a shelf set up. This is mine, it's just an ikea stand with a bunch of shop lights attached to each shelf.

The truth is you don't need to buy lights specifically advertised as "grow lights" or "full spectrum" lights. Just check that it's around 5,000k color temperature, and puts out about 2,000 lumens. This info should be on the packaging. Good luck!!

These are what I use, they all link together which makes for less wires. I will post pictures of my set up on my profile rn

I need to add some comfy floor mats. Like these or something. Standing on a concrete slab for hours is NOT fun.

Things I love about my shop:

  • LED Lighting everywhere (I went with 6 of these shop lights)
  • Small wood burning stove to get through the cold months in Minnesota. Burning scrap wood for heat is awesome and FREE! Protip: be careful and don’t burn your shop down.
  • Large 6' x 4' window directly in front of my bench lets in tons of natural light. This is kind of a sucky photo, but it’s all I have with me at the moment.

Edit: Great idea for a thread, btw!

Why don't you run some hanging fixtures between joists? I snagged a few of these:

  • Lithonia Lighting SHLP 48-Inch... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071DK5NP2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

They're in my shop and they're lightweight and weren't incredibly expensive. I did a half-ass daisychain with them and had solid results.

Ultimately I would suggest getting something between the joists so that you don't have to worry about hitting fixtures or strips with that low ceiling.

I understand trying to find something here in Canada without always having to deal with the border or the shitty dollar or the foreign transaction fees.

The best amazon deal I have found so far is this LED "T5" six pack of shop lights for $60. I might use one or two for other things, but at least 4 will be for expanding seedling/over wintering areas.

Umm, yeah, those are as bright as a basic dual-T8 fixture. Use those for general lighting, but get some highbay LED fixtures for the work areas. 20k+ lumens > ~3.8k lumens.

(I have two custom-built LED work lights - quad Cree XM-Ls - that are ~4,000 lumens, but designed for close-up work. Plug in and set on the floor under the car, facing upward. They're like droplights on steroids.)

And for the outside, perhaps something like this...

The light I have is only 4000k and I don't really want to have to find another one. Is there a way to supplement my current light situation to get more Kelvins? Also, what is your opinion on thes lights?https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BGVPPBZ/ref=emc_b_5_i

I just found another thread where someone was using a 5.8g Microwave Radar, which would even work through materials which would be amazing for my project.

Here's the other thread:

Edit: nvm I see your ceiling is only 7 ft. You want a lot of less bright lights rather than a few very bright lights. The led tube lights from costco people are recommending are probably your best bet or these from amazon that are linkable (which means you only need to wire up one):

Or something in the outdoor flood led or led bay light family

2 of these:

I like Hyperikon as a brand, they've always stood behind their products. A few of these:

You can shop around for the best price and whatever kind of coverage and brightness you want. Decide if you want one central light, one centered on each side of the garage, 3, 4, or 6 spread out, etc.

I saw a recent post of someone replacing a metal halide with this and they loved it...his IG handle is ‘toolsbydesign’. He’s a DIYer/tool enthusiast and had nothing but good things to say

Damn, at $25/ea I could've finished my garage LED conversion! I paid $40/ea at Home Depot ~2 years ago for similar lights. Bought 6 of 'em but I need 6 more.

$25 is a steal for 'em. Here they are on Amazon

Something like this? These are wired into your normal lighting or electrical circuits, when they lose power, they automatically switch on. Without spending a ton of money on it, these are the best I've found. There are some others that last 24hrs, but they're a few hundred dollars.

u/fritobugger · 1 pointr/headphones

Personally, I would get some work grade hearing protection ear muffs:

And then wear a decent pair of in-ear monitors under them for music.

25m is a long way to go for low voltage DC. I think your a British guy so not sure if your amazon has these but i've been happy with these buys on amazon US. this guy rocks the mounting seems to have changed but this was the one i ordered, real glass encased solar panel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GX3SZQS/ and these ones only lasted me about 2 years. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0074KDGL4/

I'd use 4' linear vapor tight fixtures. These are designed for rough environments so you wont ever have to worry about dust, water, humidity, bits of things being thrown by a grinding wheel etc etc
