You might be hearing the sound of the key switch bottoming out. Get some o-ring dampeners, for me it removed that metallic spring sound and made the keyboard much quieter.
Get a blank keyboard, or one of these.

All you can do is return and buy elsewhere. Their stock is tainted and they have no mechanism to fix it.
I bought a logitech usb dongle for mice on there last week. I specifically paid 15 bucks for the newer slimmer version. They sent me the older 10 dollar one.
I knew the stock was tainted, but I had them send me a replacement anways. I stressed on the chat that their stock is messed up and they need to have someone physical verify the new dongle. Dude actually said they would check the stock.

I love the butterfly switches, but i use a Ghost cover. It really changes the typing experience. No problems with the switches being protected though! I use a Magicforce68 at work and my Magic keyboard at home.
yeah dude just get a cover for your keyboard like this. Also grab a typing program that shows you what fingers should be hitting what keys. It'll be rough for a little while but you'll get the hang of it and it'll quickly become second nature.
First off, stop looking at the keyboard. Hell, get a cover if you really can't resist the temptation.
Try to spend more time writing using a keyboard if you can. The best way to learn is to practice.
Since you're at around 54 WPM I assume you're not a pecker (those who stare at their keyboard and type an index finger at a time, characterized by tap... tap.. tap..), and it seems like you're doing okay. On the matter of "writing carefully" stop doing that. I know it sounds counter productive, but you need to get into the habit of not even having to notice you made a mistake via text, but noting that your fingers are in the wrong position to be spelling out that specific word. Your corrections should not be conscious but be an automatic reaction. That will come with time however.
It doesn't take much time at all to learn to touch type, but once again.
Stop looking at your hands.
You can't use QMX clips because they need Cherry keycaps which won't fit on the Corsair non standard layout.
You probably don't want to desolder all the switches and install silenced switches.
I'd say your best bet, though they aren't popular here, are orings. Like these:

They aren't ideal but they would make the keyboard quieter than it is now. You remove each keycap, slide the oring onto the keycap stem, and put the keycap back on.
If this isn't quiet enough, your best bet is to build or buy a keyboard with silenced switches such as cherry silent red or Zilents etc., or else a Topre board in which you can install silencing rings.
I think it's one of these silicone keyboard protectors, possibly it's to protect the laptop from cat hair.

As far as i know, it doesn't really affect the typing experience, more covers it from getting the keyboard damaged and what not.
I have my keyboard cover on my MacBook for about 2 weeks and nothing happened to the screen. The cover is so thin you can barely notice so I guess it doesn't touch the screen. This is the K70 with blue switches.
Considered a very solid keyboard, especially if he likes Corsair. If he's looking for something more exotic, or the opposite, there are plenty of other boards that would work, especially different brands. Leopold is my favorite, but they're not flashy.
What I'm looking for:
I had already done my homework and the Corsair K70 RGB was the keyboard for me. I was just waiting for the right opportunity. The opportunity just arrived, and in one fell swoop I learned that there's a new version of the K70 RGB out, the K70 LUX RGB, but it looks like Amazon is sold out of them with Blues!
Unless I find something, I'll probably buy the K70 LUX with red backlighting. Are there any alternatives that have all of the above and RGB backlighting? I'm open to anything.

You can probably find them for a bit cheaper too, this one is a little bit on the pricy side.
I have this one, and I had one on my older 2006 MBP to be safe. On my old MPB, the keyboard cover saved so much dust and tiny debris from going into the keyboard. They're definitely worth it.
If you're fine with sacrificing feel, o-rings should be decent. However, if you dislike the mushy feel of o-rings I'd suggest soldering in new switches, or even lubing the Reser™ green switches (it'll get rid of the click lol). If you decide to lube your switches, but don't have time to de-solder, you can just "lazy lube" them by dripping some lube through the switch housing. (Although I don't recommend this.)

They work great at protecting the screen, and I have never had a problem closing the computer with both of them in it. Both of them together are still thinner than most silicon covers anyway.

the thing is I price wise there isn't a difference in pricing brown switches cost the same as Red or Blue yet every major brand pumps out a bunch of keyboard with the switches that'll let everyone on your party know that you have a mechanical keyboard
You can pick up some orings as well to add to your keyboard to soften the noise for when they inevitably do bottom out from pressing too hard.

Two years ago I asked an Apple store employee what they used to wipe down all Apple products because everything was so clean. Like no fingerprint stains on any of the keyboards, immaculate iPad and iPhone screens.

I've used Whoosh on my own Macbook Pro and indeed it cleaned my screen effectively, but I haven't needed to use it on the keyboard since I use keyboard covers. Also, this was on the 2015 Macbook Pros. Ymmv since we're now talking about the 2017 MBPs, but if you ever stop by an Apple store, you can always ask them what they use - or if they use/ever used Whoosh.

The keyboard will work without problems. You can choose whatever layout you want to use.
The key in a keyboard sends a code (a number) to the operating system for every key hit. The number is hard coded into the keyboard. The operating system translates that code into a letter. Which letter represents which number is determined by a so called code page or keyboard layout.
I use a native German keyboard to write German, Russian and Japanese.
When I hit the no keys, the keyboard sends the keycode 53 39 and I get no in German, но in Russian and の in Japanese hiragana.
So it all depends on your settings in the OS.

This is the computer I have and it works fine. I edit my Olympus OMD E-M1ii 20 megapixel files just fine. My computer does run a little slower because my external hard drive is NTFS that is a Microsoft hard drive file system. Macs can read NTFS hard drives out of the box just fine but they can't write to NTFS without going into the kernel and changing a setting. I run a third party program that let's my Mac write to NTFS. If you format a external hard drive to Mac format it will run faster. I just did not do this because for a few reasons. One I already had a lot of files on this hard drive when the drive was hooked up to my Dell. Also I have Windows 10 installed on this Mac as a second OS for a few other programs that are not on Mac and Windows. There are a few ways for Windows to read Mac and Mac to read Windows out of the box. If a drive is FAT 32 or EXFAT these are open file systems that Microsoft made open to everyone. There is FAT16 and I think even something lower then FAT16 but no one uses those anymore unless for really old PC computers for some retro stuff.
Also I recommend you getting a slip cover for you Mac keyboard. This brand is very good and this is what I use.

O-rings are going to quiet it down some, but if you still find it a little too loud, you could try 0.4 reduction o-rings, but after that i think you should stick with a membrane.
Get yourself one of these, they're very thin and won't disrupt air flow or anything like that.

What kind of wireless mouse is it? If it's a Logitech wireless mouse, they use a unified receiver that you can program to pretty much any Logitech wireless device that supports it.

I did a bit of looking around on the internet and it looks like when ordering, there does seem to be a difference between the 11" and 13" keyboard.
If you can, I'd definitely go with one of the clear TPU covers though. It's a slightly different material from silicone and it DOES affect how the keys feel, but you get used to it pretty quick and I like the material better than silicone. It all comes down to personal preference, but here is a nice and cheap one I found on Amazon. I have the same cover for my 13" MacBook Pro and I love it, it's really not bad at all once you get used to the texture. Doesn't really impede my typing much anymore, I can still get ~110wpm with minimal errors just fine.

See the thing is, for me, I have a transparent keyboard cover FROM ebay. Idk if these name branded ones are worth the money or not so I would prefer stickers.
As for this one, its one of those really thin keyboard covers for like $5-8. Pressing down on keys is only a little harder and you definitely feel a different texture. Its something you can get used to but it won't ever beat using the mac without a cover.

I don’t directly have an answer to your question, as I haven’t noticed anyone putting a value on that.
If I understand your question correctly, I think the only thing that will affect this is the switch plate construction. Since a more flexible plate or keyboard with pcb mount switches will cushion your bottom out more.
Also, if you didn’t already know, they haveo-rings that go on the keycap stems to make the bottom out quieter. A side effect of this is they will squish when you bottom out lessening the impact

Okay, I would highly recommend a Corsair K70 with MX Brown switch then if in an environment with other people or a dormitory, however, MX Blue would be highly recommended since you can feel when you push with a rather ingenious literal switch, downside (if you call it a downside :P) is the clicky nature to the MX Blues.
The K70 by Corsair with Cherry MX Blues was my first mechanical keyboard and still do like it, if you don't care about changing the color, or need to use macros, yea K70 nonstop, (it is a red backlight with 3 adjustable brightness settings, not including off)
the cons to the k70 (and most razer/corsair mechanical keyboards) is they don't have a standard bottom row, so if you ever want to change the keycaps due to color, style, etc. it would be safe bet to just leave the Ctrl Win Alt [space] Alt Win Options Ctrl and just change the rest if you ever want to.
Sidenote: K70 LUX is cheaper than OG K70, and the K70 LUX can let you macro all the keys at your disposal, so I will link the K70 LUX instead (only minor gripe is keycaps, but you can go to parts and accessories on their website and get K70 Classic keycaps if you are interested (29.99 annoyingly enough))

Personally I think it is worth it, especially if you do what I did. I bought mine off ebay from bestbuy as an open box, cost me 850ish dollars plus tax and an upgrade to next day shipping, which brought the total up to about $950.
At that price, for me its unarguable. If it had been like 1200 or so, i might of had to think about it. But at that price, it seems like one of the best choices out there.

It was indeed open box but mine came in perfect condition. You might not like this option, but it is a way to get it much cheaper. The sale price seems to change every so often
But despite the open box, I was able to get the full premium plus warranty from dell for it for roughly 4 years (3 years 7 months or so, due to the fact it was open box I believe.)
I think the ram should be upgraded however at least if you get into ram intensive tasks. And they do offer a 16gb ram openbox and new option from the bestbuy ebay store, and I am sure if you hunt around you will find an openbox at a physical bestbuy location if you look.
If anything my ram was the only down side to this buy. But I intended to upgrade this anyhow and will be using crucial's compatibility guarantee program to make my purchase of 32gb of ram. This ram issue might not be a problem for you, however I run VM's for work and genuinely need the extra ram for things to actually run or the VM's have a high likelihood of not running or crashing.
I also dropped a 2 TB seagate firecuda hard-drive (SSHD) in my laptop with no problem ( I disabled UEFI secure boot and made sure the bios was up to date, and it worked perfectly on the first try). 96$ from amazon. I got probably 1tb worth of games on it already :P.
Going with an 8gb model gave me a few advantages as well, for example this laptop seems to come with dual sticks of ram no matter if you buy the 16gb or 8gb model. IF you want to upgrade to 32gb of ram, expect to throw away the old ram. Also the 8gb version came with a 256gb ssd, which is not a bad size and one less thing I have to worry about upgrading. Consider that I have used 98gb on my installation already...
So overall for my particular case, if I went with the 16gb version, in the matter of a month or two the following things would of happened.
I would of thrown out the ram, as I need the 32gb of ram and cannot reuse the old sticks in this particular latptop after an upgrade.
I would of thrown out the SSD, because just my base install I have done now would of ate all of the storage space. For reference I am using 98gb of ssd space, and have only 1 game installed on the ssd (csgo)
And I would of thrown out the HDD, because my base install has already used the entire storage space that drive would of provided. For reference I used about 1tb of storage already but I do have like most of my games installed (something like 47 games). I did that because I can lol, The other 1tb is dedicated to VM's and production related stuff.
Your end result might not be the same, if you are not intending to use it for the type of work like I do, you might have an advantage going with the 16GB model instead. Each person's usage and goals will differ.
There are some things to consider however
This thing does not have the ultimate battery life of like 10 hours you can find on other laptops.
I find that it lasts anywhere from 3~4 or so.
You cannot play games while on battery, at least not on anything close to high or medium settings without huge frame rate drops. And expect gaming to eat battery life much quicker.
I am saying this because, if you have never had a gaming laptop, you should be informed to expect this. My alienware had the same issue on both performance and battery life.

it gave me at least an hour maybe hour and a half of gaming time, and I suspect it will give 4~8 more hours of normal web browsing usage but I haven't tried it fully yet. It can be very useful if you are mobile and need to use your laptop for production. However I don't think you can bring it on carry-on at an airport due to the restrictions of battery sizes by TSA, you should be able to put it in checked luggage however.
Other than the battery life, I personally cannot find too many cons about this laptop. It seems to be a solid performer overall, and has all the modern features you need like the fancy new thunderbolt connection (40Gbps), and support for NVME high speed drives as well as a regular 2.5" drive (as long as its 7mm or less in thickness) . And the build quality seems very good.
Its not very flashy and the cost to performance ratio is way up there. It has the amazing 10 series nvidia graphics card and ddr4 ram and the latest generation intel processor with an insane 12 cores and even turbo boosts on 6 cores up to something like 3.9 ghz which is pretty fast.
Overall its not a bad piece of kit, and I don't think you can build a desktop for much cheaper than this with very similar specs. That is to say, I don't think its way over priced. Unlike the alienware 15 with almost the same specs for 1800

I might of made your decision harder, but there are videos comparing these two and some others at the same time. It might be worth the look at them, overall your going to have to decide what you like more. They basically come down to preference. There are a few laptops with these specs at this price range. For me, the dell has the understated look that can pass for professional, the capability I needed, and a brand I really trust, so it was a no brainier.

But at the end, they are all going to be great bang for your buck, the pricing on this and the other direct competitors to this laptop are solid imo.
I don't know about the reliability of the others, I don't remember having to replace lots of parts in the other brands. Only HP has really had some serious bunks that I can remember, I changed way more HP motherboards than any other laptop. But I have owned Dell's and they never failed me so I stick by what I know is usually solid..
No matter what you get, if you intend to keep it many years. You need to get the warranty and max it out if you can. If you intend to keep it as long as you say, you will want accident protection and everything, and make sure you read reviews on the warranties. You don't want to find out after you break it that the warranty you got is bulls#$%. Dell has a lot of business contracts, and they have solid warranties there, and as a result those solid warranties trickle down to consumers as well. I know I've had nothing but the best warranty support from them.

The GhostCover is great, doesn’t leave any marks on the screen, and it doesn’t get all sticky and weird. It’s also incredibly thin (0.12 mm thick). I have one for my MacBook Pro 2017 13” and it is awesome

You should order a few packs of keyboard stickers , it can prolong how long a keyboard can be used by hunt and peckers, and much easier to use then whiteout.
O-rings, put them on the keycaps and it will make the noise stop. You can keep the keybaord you are already more or less satisfied with and not have to worry about the noise, also its much cheaper than buying a new keyboard.
O-rings will have a very minimal impact on the brightness of the lighting. If you're really worried about it use clear rings:

AFAIK the whole advice with not buying a keyboard cover for the new butterfly keyboards is a bunch of paranoia. The maximum damage a flimsy piece of rubber can do to your glass screen is cause some temporary visible cosmetic damage that can be wiped away by a cloth.

Get a pack of these. Use them to cover your board as much as possible while you are smoking. Should at least help them last a bit longer. The Kailh box switches someone else mentioned would also help as they are supposed to be dust resistant. Probably a combination of things would be the best.
How many people are using O-Rings?
I've had a MX Green board for years, and I love it. The springs are heavy af, it's like a mini workout. It was on my desk at home, but moved to my office as a noisy instrument of office warfare when I had a truly annoying coworker I wanted to drown out. The guy I work with now is great, so I just installed these o-rings to dampen the sound some and not be as annoying with my coding and clacking. They're... different. How do you guys feel about them?
I would definitely get one. I bought a 2016 MacBook Pro TB and accidentally spilled water directly on the keyboard.. Needless to say, after spending ~$1400 to repair my laptop, I've invested in a keyboard cover, hard shell case and sleeve. Never again.. Never again 😪

I gotta echo everyone's sentiments in that Corsair's MKBs are not a good value for their cost, but the Corsair K70 Lux with MX blues is in stock on Amazon. If you can do without the RGB & macro keys, the K70 is a much better value IMHO.
The k70 lux is barely above $100 on amazon. I personally love corsair keyboards, but I'm sure there will a lot more keyboards that are even better.
Oh, and a lot of people hate the design of the keycaps apparently, honestly can't blame them for that tbh
I found the keyboard keys are so close to the screen when MacBook Pro is closed they rub on the screen. This drove me crazy until I placed a thin piece of fabric between the keyboard and screen when closed. This solved the problem.
