... you don't buy them in boxes?

Also, I started making my own. Awesome, easy to do. If you're interested, I can send you some recipes I came across and have been using (and modifying).

Edit: Wow! Went away for a few minutes.... tons of replies.

Ok give me just a few to grab them

Edit 2: You can grab the few I use the most here. As you can see, I like peanut butter and chocolate. A few things to do to make things even healthier...

Add in chia seeds - awesome stuff.

Swap out maple syrup for agave syrup. I tend to use the dark agave.

Use agave instead of butter for binding the all oat recipes. Butter binds okay, but agave works great. Comes out super chewy.

Use parchment paper - this is not the same as wax paper!! Parchment paper can be used in the oven at higher temperatures, something wax paper isn't good for. You'll melt the wax. When you're done, you can use the parchment paper to twist and wrap up the bars for sticking in your jersey.

When it comes to the protein powder additions, use whey protein isolate or whey protein hydroisolate. Its more expensive, but substantially more effective. Isolate has less fats, less lactose, and is absorbed easier. Hydroisolate takes things a step further, reducing the amount of digestion that needs to be done. Since you're making a batch, WPI and WPH will last a long while this way. They also usually taste like shit, but since you're making delicious fudge brownies (in healthy form) and oat bars, it works out.

If anyone has anything else to add, please do so!

where do you get them? I buy my chia seeds on amazon and it's a lot cheaper than whole foods. Is there a place that's even cheaper though? I get 6lbs for $20-$25

These are the ones that I have now

Looks like [These] (https://www.amazon.com/Healthworks-Chia-Seeds-Raw-Pesticide-Free/dp/B00313L62Y/ref=sr_1_12_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1487599859&sr=1-12&keywords=chia+seeds) may be even cheaper

u/Morejazzplease · 13 pointsr/Ultralight

So a serving of these: https://www.amazon.com/Mauna-Loa-Macadamias-Roasted-11-oz/dp/B00509LVIQ/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1525283082&sr=1-4&keywords=macadamia%2Bnuts&th=1

Is 1oz. There are 11 servings in the bag. at 230 calories per ounce they are incredibly dense and they pack 24g of fat... Comes to about 1 dollar something a serving which is way less than most bars.

Deeze nuts are blowing my mind.

Ask me this 2 months ago and I would say, "No, have a good big breakfast." However, for about the past few months, I have been making shakes for breakfast and couldn't be happier. Before, I was pretty much Mr. Subway or Starbucks breakfast sandwiches everyday. I was spending ~ $50 a week just in breakfast food. Absurd.

I don't think powder alone will get you very far. I know I would be hungry again in an hour.

So, in about 5 minutes, I mix the following in a blender:

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup crushed ice
  • 1 cup water (or so)
  • 3/4 cup organic flax/pumpkin or Ancient Grain/almonds cereal. This stuff is so good.
  • small handful of walnuts crushed by hand.

  • 2 scoops whey/casein blend protein

The above starts my morning off right and keeps me mostly satiated until lunch approaches. That says a lot for a 215lb guy. If I know I am going to be working extra hard/long/or going snowboarding or something, I toss in another 1/4-1/2 cup of regular old oats to get the carb content up.

My Dad (a long time fan of the breakfast shake) told me the other day he has been using a cup of spinach in his shakes, and says it adds little to zero flavor. I may give this a whirl for an even greater anti-oxidant boost.

Oh, I also add in my daily creatine and beta-alanine as well.

Precision Nutrition has some fantastic shake recipes, many which could be well suited to breakfast time and with some tweaking, to whatever nutritional/caloric goals you may have. Check them out.

It must be noted that I would much prefer to sit down and have a nice big breakfast, but this works given that I am a sleepyhead. I do love some breakfast, a handful of eggs, a few sweet potato pancakes and some nice patty sausage.....damnit, now I am hungry.

The sugar on the outside is kinda hardened so it's pseudo hard candy. You can get them on amazon.

u/larkasaur · 3 pointsr/skeptic

They're sold on Amazon. It's strange that this is legal to sell in the USA. The lowest reported lethal dose is apparently about 9 grams of the kernels. So eating the whole bag is a lot of cyanide!

Dry goods seem like they'd go a long way. What does your access to beans, nuts, and oats/other grains look like? What does your spice selection look like either near you or in Edmonton?

A couple of amazon staples: Wheat gluten, nutritional yeast, sesame oil, herbamare, bullion/broth powder, dried mushrooms, chia seeds

as a georgian, i must insist you try some. since i live in massachusetts i can’t get fresh ones, but these always hit the spot. pour off some of the juice (although i leave it), heat them up in the microwave about 60 seconds, and chefs kiss

> Firstly, what are okay things to eat for breakfast that provide you with enough energy for the day while still being healthy?

I can make a few recommendations that have worked for me in the past:

  • I used to prepare steel cut oats overnight in a crockpot (with a timer). Honestly I never really enjoyed oatmeal but I liked how healthy it was and the energy it gave me. You can also put in whatever you want to mix things up. My go-to toppings were a handful of walnuts, blueberries, and a tablespoon of this cocoa/coconut flax seed stuff. I used to also put in a packet of splenda but decided to try to back off making it too sweet and instead just put in more blueberries if I needed it.

  • There's a ton of great recipes for this so this one I'm linking is just an example but you can prepare these delicious egg fritata muffin things and keep them in the freezer and heat them up in the morning in the microwave. They're low calorie, the protein in eggs is really good at filling you up, and you can put in a ton of healthy veggies too. Also pretty low calorie.
  • Similar to the oatmeal, just get some plain greek yogurt and put some stuff in it. I did the same toppings as my oatmeal but added a little bit of honey (since I got unflavored greek yogurt which is kind of gross by itself).
  • And my final recommendation is nothing at all! I've been skipping breakfast since the beginning of 2016 and it's been the best change to my diet I could have made. I found that if I ate a small breakfast, I just felt hungry and unsatisfied until lunch, but if I ate a big breakfast, I had a lot of trouble not eating too much the rest of the day. So now, I skip breakfast and opt for a cup of black coffee instead. It helps curb any hunger I have until I eat lunch and then I can eat a large meal for lunch and dinner and also sneak in some snacks. This strategy is called Intermittent Fasting which you can learn a little more about here. I honestly don't follow it strictly but it works really well for me.

    Hope this helps!

Or just buy them already peeled. https://www.amazon.com/Raw-Sunflower-Seed-Kernels-Gerbs/dp/B00EOZ53C2/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1538063300&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=peeled%2Bsunflower%2Bseeds&th=1

Seriously when this guy wants a burger does he go out buy a cow and just go nuts with a couple grand worth of equipment to kill, butcher and grind up the cow?

I buy a big box of 100 calorie packs of almonds so I don't over eat them. (Sorry for link, on mobile) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0032ZB03G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

According to the below, the street value of drugs is estimated by taking the smallest possible package value and multiplying. For comparison, if you bought the entire California almond crop in the form of these, one by one, at a convenience store, it would come to roughly a two bucks an ounce ($1 per oz from Amazon, x2 for the store's markup), or $58 billion, almost double the estimate for the marijuana crop.

I once received a box of these nuts http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Diamond-Roasted-Almonds-container/dp/B0049ZCF9G/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1372390381&sr=8-7&keywords=blue+diamond+almonds

I never ordered them, and they just came in one day randomly. All the information on the box checked out, and it even had the amazon prime stuff on it. I called their order support line, and gave them the order number on the box and everything. It was associated with an order I purchased about a week ago, but there was nothing on the order that said I purchased them.

I think it was just a scheme to get more purchases from these nuts, as I gave some to my friend and within the week they bought a ton from amazon <_<

Yay!! I'm glad someone is making it! I want all you pregnant mamas to feel the consistent relief that I've felt! One less thing to worry about! 😅 If you like it, I recommend buying a giant bag of chia seeds on Amazon. I bought this one for $24 and shared some with my mom: Healthworks Chia Seeds Raw Pesticide-Free, 6lb https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00313L62Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_8wsZCbHNYPA3N

I'm on my second bag now - the first one took me a couple if years to go through but I wasn't using it like I am now and it doesn't go bad 😀

u/scubsurf · 1 pointr/Fitness

Eat more fiber.

Here's what I do. Buy a bunch of chia, and a bunch of oatmeal. Chia is your best friend now.

Mix that shit in with your oatmeal, and add protein to your oatmeal. The texture is shit, but it does the job.

Every time you have a protein shake, add a few spoonfuls of chia to it. Shit will fall out your asshole when you sit down on the can like change falling out your pocket in the car, you'll be amazed.

This is what I use. It's good stuff, and you'll be amazed at your poops, just don't eat too much or you'll tear your asshole.

Ooh! I love this game!

PB2 is my jam! I like the chocolate version, but there is a plain peanut butter version too. I love adding it to protein powders that are a little bland.

PB2 different kinds variety pack happy fun time!

I buy my chia seeds in bulk.

Hemp hearts are a great source of complete protein.

This chia, flax cocoa mix is really good with chocolate protein powder.. and chocolate pb2... and on yogurt... etc. Love this stuff. Cheaper in bulk. They used to make a berry version too but I can't find it.

This is the kind of supergreens I use, but there are a variety of flavors so I linked you to the search. I just do the original to keep it neutral.

The fire in the fields creates a large plume of black smoke, great...everyone probably knows where Gareth is now. That could work against him, or for him. He gets to the parachute, which was actually farther than he expected, and opens up the box.

Inside it contains:

  • a bag

  • trail mix

  • beef jerky

  • peanut butter crackers

  • and a water bottle full of clean water.

There's a note inside that says: "Good luck.". That's it? Gee, thanks.

When he looks down at the village he can see a stone house is on fire, greek fire eats away at the stone house and through the windows. Gareth sees Milo run from the house and start jogging towards the lake, where the explosions occurred not five minutes ago. He hasn't noticed Gareth yet, he could have the element of surprise here....

OOC: If you wish to fight Milo or Confront him, please comment HERE after his most recent reply. If you decide against it, feel free to reply to this message once more.

ROLL TIDE ROLL

  1. #1 Lemming

  2. I collect Magic Cards. Specifically I'm trying to get one of each every card that Rebecca Guay did the art for! My favorite card of all time (for the art not necessarily the actual card0 is Thornwind Faeries My mom has them tattooed on her shoulder and eventually I'm going to work them into a tattoo too!

  3. I love them all right now I have more Cremes than anything else, just because I'm getting started. I'm not fond of pink.

  4. I've been staring down a glass nail file for ages they don't have any in my local stores. I also need some sort of cuticle cream or oil...

  5. I crochet, play geeky table top role playing games, and read... I'm not sure how I have time for it all. More yarn is always welcome. More paint or the nifty grass stuff like this or new interesting minis would be cool... for reading, I use my kindle most often I read Fantasy mostly (good god I'm a huge fucking nerd). I haven't read the Wheel Of Time series yet which is apparently blasphemous.

  6. Unfortunately there aren't many snacky type foods I can have due to a very restrictive diet. Best bet are savory almonds like these Basically I can't have any sugar or grains... So snack food is pretty hard to deal with. unless you have a cheese shop nearby that sells hard cheeses... OMG I miss the cheese shop so bad and they have glorious amazing parmesans and aged goudas and omnomnom.

  7. I have 4 cats, 2 dogs, and a husband. The husband will eat any treats that you put in the box that I can't have.

  8. Probably a glass file. I've been looking for one locally forever, I don't want to spend shipping on one... Or some fancy Emerald and Ash cuticle oils.

  9. A hand written note. Just a little hi or an explanation of why things were picked or something.

  10. I am allergic to pineapple. I love the color green. I tend to gravitate towards citrusy scents.

  11. Have a google doc

wherever you live, try a nearby gourmet or health food store and mix up your own.
when i can accumulate $50 in groceries, i will buy from walmart online, but rarely nuts.
other online places i suggest for nuts is nuts.com and the nuts sold on vitacost.com

Buy from amazon here instead of the store. I buy these every month it lasts!

Kirkland Signature Supreme Whole Almonds, 3 Pound https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0046GZM8O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_l319ybKQNSS8X

Store almond milk is often a lot of just fillers.
you use more almonds in home milk per cup, so I can see why it might seem that way. It also depends on if you are buy organic almonds and if you are buying them in bulk.
The price of [these](Kirkland Signature Supreme Whole Almonds, 3 Pound https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0046GZM8O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_dejNzbKDPPSRX) from amazon would come to around $1.63 per 4 cups almond milk, so cheaper than store almond milk, with more nutritional bang for your buck.
Honestly, I don't know how much cows milk is though... It has been a really long time since I have bought it and i know they subsidize it, so I am not surprised if you get double that for the same price.

Frosted Flakes is horrible for you... seriously if you care 1% about your health try something different. Like this stuff, srsly chop up a banana and throw it in this and it's the ambrosia of The Ents http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Path-Organic-Ancient-Almonds/dp/B004885T38
