Ill pm you some links when I get home

Okay so im going for a more athletic look with my pants and i liked the look of these. For the cargo look i have pacsun pants
and if you're willing to pony up some money [outlier] (http://outlier.nyc/) is a good place to start.

I'm still learning what works and what doesnt as well so keep that in mind. Its also really hard to do techwear for cheap as nothing will quite fit or look like an acrnym pair of pants. This reddit [post](https://www.amazon.com/Windbreaker-Athletic-Sweatpants-Trousers-Exercise/dp/B014VUVXRS/ref=sr_1_15?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1481168875&sr=1-15&keywords=cycling+pants) is a good place to start.

Just found another good link for water resistant wear.

One of my best purchases for winter cycling has been a pair of winter cycling pants from amazon for $25 (link here). The DC winters aren't as cold as the Midwest, but I've been fine riding in single digit temperatures with them + a decent coat, gloves, scarf, and hat.

Happy cycling!

Cold running is all about layering. I can get all the way down to about 15-20º wearing some combination of:

- Merino base layer

- Thermal tights (I actually love these )

- Grid fleece (Patagonia R1)

- Wind shell (Mountain Hardwear Ghost Lite)

- Waterproof Jacket (Dynafit Transalper)

- Gloves

- Beanie or Buff

There are plenty of good, totally waterproof jackets that breathe well enough. My Dynafit is awesome but I don't love the fit. Check out the North Face Hyperair, Arcteryx Norvan, or Ultimate Direction Ultra 2. But anything this waterproof/light is expensive.

I'm talking out of inexperience but what i'm pulling the trigger on next paycheck are the following:

to put most days above 0°C

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00NUQEIEA/ref=sspa_dk_detail_3?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B00NUQEIEA&pf_rd_m=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&pf_rd_p=dd8bce25-0727-4a5d-b121-eef3dd7bc606&pd_rd_wg=N94qH&pf_rd_r=TSH7F4QF6ET99Q0BSRCA&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&pd_rd_w=QrXCr&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pd_rd_r=9ba690c1-e139-11e8-9164-bf59fe425ea4

to add on to the windproof stuff mentioned above once it dips below freezing

http://www.uniqlo.com/ca/en/CPaGoods/itemcode=408121

and finally, last but not least, i'm shopping around for some nice and warm calf height merino wool socks... wondering if i'll go for icebreakers (lifetime warranty) or jb fields' (cheaper but gets the job done)

upper body i've already got covered...maybe my hands will require a waterproof option in the near future though

I use something very similar I think, these ones, I got them of a lightning deal for $32 CAD too. So good that I actually bought another pair. I would size one up though, cause they're asian sized. They fit me perfect (5'10", L), without any bulk so it doesn't flap in the wind, and the inner lining allows me to use it by itself all the way down to -4C (25F), and I have a 75min commute too.

I've ridden it through a few downpours, but I should add this caveat. I believe there's one small section (front of the shin I think) that is not as waterproof as the other parts. They've held up quick nicely otherwise and have become my goto pants for the winter.

If you are on a budget, these pants have been solid for me. Last year, I did a long distance race (113km), and it was -34C for the night portion of the race. They kept me plenty warm with a base layer underneath and are not too bulky. The only downside is that the material stiffens up a bit when it is that cold, but on a budget they were more than acceptable.

u/randorime · 2 pointsr/running

They're amazing. They kept me warm for all my winter runs and they're so much cheaper (bought them for $20 thanks to CamelCamelCamel) and more fully featured than competing tights (ankle zippers, double fleece lining and a back pocket).

u/Larry44 · 2 pointsr/bicycletouring

I like these for cycling in. Might wear these under them on colder days.

u/kendalltristan · 2 pointsr/running

These are all I use anymore and they've been nothing but fantastic: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PVXN7SS/

u/jpbronco · 2 pointsr/running

I just got these today at the recommendation of someone else on here.

u/White_Lobster · 2 pointsr/artc

I took a chance on these last year and they're great. Can't beat the price, either.

u/mcphatty84 · 2 pointsr/MTB

I wear these with a pair of long johns underneath. Good down to maybe 10 degrees F or so in that configuration. Water resistant and blocks the wind quite well.

These are really nice and plenty warm at freezing temps (down to the teens) with bib shorts under them: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ADHU3ZC/

I live in New Hampshire, when we’re near zero it’s snow, not rain or sleet.

I wear a compression under shirt, a slightly heavier fabric, not that thin style. Then a long sleeve wicking shirt, then my winter running coat. Legs are winter compression. This pair worked out great last winter. Baleaf Men's Thermal https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PVXN7SS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_YrMB4J5lr2VhE
Single pocket I’m back waist for key.

I don’t wear super heavy gloves. Just run-of-the-mill winter running gloves. I pull my fingers into fists for the first couple miles. Then I can’t let them out into fingers.

If it’s windy I may use a balaclava. But my breath will normally freeze on that and it becomes useless aside from being a neck warmer.

I find after a few miles your body core has so much heat to give it sends it back to the extremities. It’s really only the first 20 minutes I question leaving the house. There’s been times I’m out for 90 plus minutes and I’m unzipping the coat. Or the hat is sweaty so I take it off for a minute and then it freezes.

If you’re interested for something on your legs there are some great inexpensive options available on Amazon. As much as I love my local shop, it’s hard justifying $100-$200 for some of the name brand stuff when things like this are available.

These work great in the range you’re talking about. I haven’t worn them below 30, but I suspect they would work down into the mid 20’s.

Baleaf Men's Thermal Cycling... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PVXNC92?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

I routinely wear these down into the teens and even single digits. The pant legs are a little baggier so you might want a band or some electrical tape around the drive side.

I buy most of my apparel from amazon, including Pearl Izumi, Canari, Baleaf, They are good rated cycling retailers on amazon with affordable price. you might need a Mask Neck Warmer. I bought a thermal cycling pants from baleaf, http://www.amazon.com/Baleaf-Thermal-Cycling-Tights-Black/dp/B00PVXN4KO/ Hope it works for you.

u/BradleyUffner · 1 pointr/cycling

On the really cold and windy days, I wear a pair of these over top of my thermal winter bibtights. I've been doing hour long commutes with them in temps as low as 8F with some pretty gnarly winds without issue. They have been great on longer, multi hour, weekend rides too.

They are absolutely amazing at blocking the cold wind without causing me to overheat. I highly recommend them.

u/MadNachos · 1 pointr/MTB

I seldom need to cover my legs, love it cold, but I also live in So Cal so me definition of 'cold' isn't exactly life threatening type cold...although we have hit low 30's here at the beach this year. Anyway, I needed some warm pants to take with me on a recent riding trip that would be usable in a bit of rain so I grabbed some cheap ones from Amazon, I usually 'invest' in high quality cycling clothing since it can last forever but I took a chance on these for $29. Heck of a good buy. Very warm, good fit (not baggy but not too tight), and very comfortable. Just note that they do run a bit small...but its Amazon so no hassle on size swapping: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019GUHXWM/r

These are pretty decent.

I wear these under cargo shorts on long rides. Perfect way to carry the essentials.

I use this pants as an "over-pant" (I don't know the correct term, but I think you know what I mean). with the velcro at your ankles they get realy tight and so they are 100% Waterproof and won't get into your chain. they have a long zipper down the side, so you can get easy into them. I use them the whole year. in winter they are a nice extra layer for warmth. in spring and fall they are good against any kind of water and mud and in summer I ride them without a jeans underneath and just change into that when I am at work.
I never had to wash them. water from the shower will rinse it off. They are a bit pricey. but mine lastet my for ~ 2 years and is still going strong. (and it is a very 'green' product)

I like Gore pants, jackets and vests for winter riding.
