I have this one in blue. It is about 12 inches long and it fans like crazy with little effort. It pretty durable so far. I can't find any like this on amazon without the design or in other colors.

there's sooo many different designs as well as folding material and silk style and in various colors

It really depends what you prefer. My experience the silk one's are lighters and easier to carry, but can tear and the bamboo can break off. The plastic 'spanish' folding style ones are a bit more sturdy and muuuch easier to fold in/out, also making a loud snap noise (if you're into that). But if the plastic/Spanish style ones break they're pretty much useless, the silk one's can still be somewhat functional even if busted. I personally prefer the plain white silk one's and sometimes have people sign them for memories :)

happy Forest!

Hi! Welcome back!

I'm fairly new, so I have been having a blast getting to know people. I love it here!

I always wanted to have a fan but since I'll never be famous, this is the closest I may ever get :-p

Thanks for the contest!

The linchpin is weak. I recommend replacing it with a bent paperclip.

I love your enthusiasm for the super giant fan, but it might not be strong enough structurally to really fan it hard.. but maybe slow and steady fanning is all you need at that size..

Do you happen to remember more about this guy's fan? Was the grip in the center, where the fan fans out from? Was he holding the fan with 2 hands, even though it had a grip? I can only imagine there must have been some kind of mechanism that locked the fan open, and probably kept the fan rigid. This fan won't have that kind of structure.

I have one of these 60-inch bamboo wall fans.. I just pulled it out of the garage. It's pretty floppy.. bamboo bends easily, so the whole fan gives and bends as you try to fan it. I had "no problem" fanning it slowly, but you can't go very fast. Just so much air resistance. It's got to be pushing a LOT of air, though! And by "no problem", I lied... it's kind of unruly and awkward keeping it open and fanning with it, haha. 2 hands required.. And the thin bamboo edge pieces kind of want to twist in on themselves as you hold them. And every movement felt like it was ready to crumble.. I did get it into a groove with this vertical sinusoidal fanning motion that felt pretty easy to work, but no idea what kind of air was getting moved.

I can imagine you using this in open areas without much of a problem, but I can't imagine (but I REALLY want to see it) you pulling this out in the middle of a mass of people and being very successful, unless maybe you're 6 and a half feet tall, and you hold it above your head, fanning forward/down (rather than side to side). IF you pull that shit off, people will worship you, haha. Another concern would be poking someone in the face with it.

The 3 footer might be more manageable, but definitely not as epic. Maybe get both in case the big one fails, or you're in a tight spot. And maybe a 13 inch closed / 25 inch open fan, too, while you're at it.. They are super easy to 1 hand and still work like a champ in a crowd. They move a surprising amount of air.

EDIT: Looking at these fans linked above, the 3 footer says the fan part is made with paper? I'm not sure if I'd trust that to hold up. The 5 footer is made of rayon, so that should be fine. The bamboo will probably break before that does. Mine is definitely some type of fabric, and (maybe foolishly) I trust the fabric over the bamboo part. And there are some cheaper 5 foot ones that are made with paper, so watch out.

Here's the 13 inch closed / 25 inch open fan that I have:

Riddle 1: Wine - Lego Unikitty

  • Kids often whine if they don't get their toys. Unlike the drink, this figure is suitable for all ages... and more to the point is just plain adorable!

Riddle 2: Broom - Microphone "boom" stand

  • Hey, at least it rhymes (broom/boom)! I'm sure you could straddle one of these as well, but you might get a few strange looks.

    Riddle 3: Hat - Feathers

  • I vaguely recall a story someone told me once, about a young gentleman by the name of Yankee Doodle. The legend goes that he stuck a feather in his hat, and thus named it "macaroni"...

Riddle 4: Books - Typewriter fridge magnets

  • A little nostalgia for a bygone age... back when computers simply didn't exist or were considered an expensive luxury. How many classic books exist solely due to the humble typewriter? Nobody knows, but it's probably a lot.

    Riddle 5: Suitcase/Trunk - Elephant hole punch

  • It's a little known fact that elephants are the only animal able to carry their own luggage. They simply put it in their trunks!

Bonus riddle: Cape - Painted bamboo fan

  • How else am I supposed to look dashing and heroic if there's not a gentle breeze wafting against my hair and cape?

No problem here's the direct link for the ones we purchased. The quality was decent.

In Indianapolis it's usually no hotter than mid-80's in the middle of June but the day of our wedding was almost 100 degrees with high humidity. The ceremony was outdoors and started at 6:30 so it wasn't too bad but I noticed a lot of people using the fans during the ceremony and got great feedback on them :)

Dude, those are usually given out for free as advertisements. Eh, who am I to judge. Here's one, it's a little effeminate. Here's one for the Jesus lover in you, you can find a bunch of really churchy ones on Ebay. Not what you wanted? Well, you could always just order your own from Alibaba.
