You need to see a dentist full stop.
To help, get a decent electric tooth brush, brush properly twice a day for the full 2 minutes.
30 seconds a 1/4.

Also floss! It's so important.
If you struggle with flossing get something like this to help.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Glide-Floss-Picks-30-pc/dp/B001P920WG

You will find your gums are going to bleed after flossing, this will be normal if you never floss.
As its signs of gum disease. Just keep it up and in a few days you will notice less blood.
Then hopefully non at all.

Then keep up flossing every second day. For the rest of your life.

Also get some Fluoriguard Mouthwash. Do that in the middle of the day.

Oh wow let me know how it goes for you! The surgeon I just rotated with does the Linx procedure.

Also on the brushing a ton but flossing twice a week, I honestly feel like you'd be better off flossing more and brushing less. Cavities form from all the trapped food between your teeth and gumline, and without flossing it gets stuck in there. Seems like it would be better for your gums if you flossed after every meal and used mouthwash rather than brushing 15 times a day.

Sometimes for snacks I will floss and chew gum or use mouthwash, or use a wisp mini toothbrush. I use these flossers during the day and I really like them. https://www.amazon.com/Oral-B-Glide-Care-Floss-Picks/dp/B001P920WG

I've also heard that waterpiks don't compare.

I have the same issue, and I think where I've arrived is that although plastic floss could end up somewhere where it harms animals, using silk floss definitely exploits and harms animals. I still hate sending my money to the plastic industry, but I guess its the lesser of two evils. Here's a good one that doesn't have too much packaging

Just make sure you take measures to dispose of it properly, like cutting it up so it can't get wrapped around any animals.

YSK: there are plenty of next-generation specialty toothpastes available online that haven't hit the mainstream market that are far superior to your run-of-the-mill Crest with fluoride toothpaste. Try finding something with Novamin, a novel remineralization agent. There are also electric flossers that will make flossing FAR EASIER.

that wouldn't be as effective as using these. unless they have two lines of wire, of course.

u/Aygtets2 · 4 pointsr/3Dprinting

There's also this. Which I think are much more comfortable than lose little ones.

You and I have a lot of the same stuff! Here are the intersections:

  • Nike Free 4.0
  • Outlier Slim Dungarees
  • Outlier New Way Shorts
  • Smartwool Socks (although I prefer my Chrome merino socks now)
  • Sony Xperia Z3 (but I don't have the compact)
  • Dr. Bronner's (but everyone has this!)

Things you have that are on my shopping list:

  • Outlier merino co/pivot

Things that someone with our taste might like, and that I don't see in your list:

  • FLOSSCARD - super small floss
  • Lunatec Trekr - durable & super light wash cloth
  • Neutrogena Lip Balm w/ SPF - sunburned lips suck

That Vapur bottle looks nice. I have the Platypus, which looks pretty similar.

Are you working at all while traveling?

Thanks for the info and inspiration!

I actually talked with my dentist about how frustrating it must be to deal with the abysmal flossing compliance of his patients. I think it made him happy that someone actually cared. I'm in the minority of people that actually ENJOY going to the dentist, and not 'cause I've always had perfect dental hygiene—I experienced the same painful shit from not flossing, but I always knew it was because I was a dumbass, and that the dentist/hygienist were just doing damage control. I asked him questions about specific stuff I can do to improve my dental hygiene (e.g., brushing techniques, waterpik vs. traditional flossing), and he regaled me with tales of the former Soviet Union.

Seriously. He told me stories about fellow dentists getting disappeared by KGB and the like...crazy stuff.

Something that really helped me with forming good flossing habits was buying a bunch of those disposable flossers. One of the things I hated most about flossing was having to stick my fingers in my mouth: it's awkward, they get all nasty, and your blood circulation gets cut off by the floss. With a flosser, you can get the job done much more neatly and efficiently, and the ones I got even do double duty as toothpicks. I like to think that the whole twin line thing helps, but you can probably do just about as well with whatever the lowest price/count flossers are.

TL:DR: Start flossing regularly, you savages! Flossers make it easier.

u/petricup · 3 pointsr/braces

If money isn't tight, I'd recommend these, you're not suppose to stop flossing with a water flosser. Water flossing doesn't scrape off gunk like floss does. But those get my flossing time down to pre-braces, so it isn't even a hassle anymore. Threading them took me way too long for it to be practical.

u/VolSimpJoy · 3 pointsr/minimalism

Have you ever seen those floss containers shaped like credit cards?

check it out!

u/nerdypursuits · 2 pointsr/ZeroWaste

There's silk floss that usually comes in a refillable glass dispenser or if you're vegan they make a bamboo charcoal version and a (supposedly) biodegradable one made of corn.

Then a lower waste option is this German brand Doctors Floss that has a refillable metal dispenser or the Eco-Dent cardboard dispenser. Their floss is still nylon unfortunately which is why it's cheaper and comes with a lot more floss than the options above.

As soon as teeth popped through. We started slowly though. The first time they just sat in our lap after our 6mo check up. The hygienist counted their teeth, and they got a prize, toothbrush, and toothpaste. We worked our way up to the hygienist brushing teeth at our next visit, the next she used the cleaner/polisher, the next the fluoride treatment. By the time they were 3 they were pretty much having full appointments with us every 6 months.

As far as brushing their teeth, always. Before they had teeth, we bought a baby brush set and we brushed their gums. When teeth started being seen, we switched to a soft toothbrush. No fluorinated until they are reliably spitting their toothpaste out. We also now use kids mouthwash, and use flossers.

We didn't have dental insurance when I was a kid and I had a HUGE phobia of dentists. I had 2 molars rot out of my mouth, so I'm pretty neurotic about my kids and their teeth. My 7 year old brushes all on his own now, my 4 year old still has to have us do it.

TOOTHBRUSH

This is the electric toothbrush I use and recommend: Sonicare Flex Care Plus. It is cheapest at Costco but comes in a pack of 2. It's important to replace the brush head every 3-4 months. Sonicare now has a subscription service to automatically send you a new brush head when it's time to replace, or you can buy the brush heads when you need them; they come out to approx $9 each on amazon but you can get 6 for $50 at Costco and they oftentimes have a $10 instant rebate. If you need to use a manual toothbrush, I recommend the Nimbus manual toothbrush. These Wisps are really handy when you can't brush after eating.

FLOSS

The floss I recommend is Dr. Tung's Smart Floss and you can use this  Floss Holder to make it easier to use. (Amazon only sells the floss in packs of 3 or 6 so if you want to purchase a single pack you can find it at Whole Foods, Bristol Farms, or Sprouts.) A Waterpik can also be a great tool, this one is a Handheld Waterpik and is more convenient to use. You can use it in the shower and it takes up less counter space.

TOOTHPASTE/MOUTHWASH

This Crest Gum and Sensitivity  paste is one of my favorites and I like Act Total Care mouthwash. When choosing a toothpaste or mouthwash, look for "sodium fluoride" as an active ingredient.  It's best to stay away from mouthwashes with alcohol in them and whitening/charcoal pastes because the abrasives in them can damage the teeth. If you use a whitening rinse with hydrogen peroxide, only use it 2-3 times per week to avoid making the gum tissue sensitive. Other than that, whatever you prefer is just fine.

WHITENING

For an inexpensive whitening treatment Crest White Strips are a good option.

I have super tight teeth.... I use these:

Listerine ULTRACLEAN Access Flosser with 36 Refills, Mint Flavored (Original Version) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PG59X2K/

Sometimes I break the floss, but not often. I position the floss string and literally bite it down (gradually) in between my teeth. It's the only way I can floss.

Maybe this could help you?

u/suckinonmytitties · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

floss picks from my under $5 list. cowpox. thanks for the contest!

u/Shirakawasuna · 2 pointsr/vegan

> For example, I wanted to purchase those reusable food wraps that replace cling wrap, but they're coated with beeswax.

There are soy wax versions!

> I currently just use a LOT of containers in my fridge for small individual items.

I agree it's a bit annoying for the fridge to be full of containers, but on the plus side, this means your foods are nicely sealed away, preventing gross fridge smell and moisture buildup. I only use the wax wraps when I can't fit the item into a container.

> Another example is floss. At this no waste store, they carry an alternative to plastic (?) floss from the pharmacy. It's made from spider silk. Like, what?! It's not plastic but... I wouldn't say spider silk is vegan. But I need floss. I'm not sure what to do here.

There are lots of other options! https://www.amazon.com/Vegan-Dental-Floss-Refill-TEVRA/dp/B07F63BD8M is one.

Aside from medical things, I think it's pretty doable to do vegan zero waste without difficult choices. It is super annoying to have to thoroughly research everything, though.

u/weskokigen · 2 pointsr/LifeProTips

I absolutely hated flossing as well, so I know how you feel. However, recently my dentist suggested I try shower flossing. I tried it, and it is waaay more bearable than string flossing. It takes getting used to in the beginning, but now I floss every night. I have this one.

u/wonderfulmetropolis · 2 pointsr/reddit.com

I used to use the Oral-B Hummingbird and they were amazing, especially since you could buy the box of floss attachments for them in bulk.

u/heyko98 · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
  1. Yes ive just recently started recycling

  2. I think its important because if we dont look after the earth we will ruin it.

    Jani likes it au naturel

Tooth paste - people don't like that it cleans off dead skin cells from inside your cheeks, but its a good thing!

Toothbrush - THE BEST!!

Mouthwash - no alcohol and slowly whitens

Interdental brushes - use at the gumline between your teeth. Your gums will bleed a lot at first because they are inflammed, but once the gingivitis clears up within 2-3 days it won't bleed. (Find a size that fits each gap, buy a multipack first and see which ones you need to buy more of)

u/icewewe · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Try this instead. I use it with Glide Floss and usually one package of glide floss lasts me about 6 months. I've had one for about 14 years, and it's still going strong.

Buy floss sticks like this. I can floss in about a minute using those with braces.

u/kolloth · 1 pointr/Warhammer40k

to get into the tight spots you can use an inter-dental brush like these

Anyone else that hates flossing try one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Butler-Floss-Mate-Handle-Assorted/dp/B001204XXW?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0

I use them all the time. I ordered a 10 pack :)

(note associated with the brand/company blah blah blah)

u/mvenice1 · 1 pointr/3Dprinting

I’d think with the floss spool that a design like this, or this would do better because you wouldn’t have to hold the handle and spool to the side. You could make it long enough to be out of the way.

My Wife uses Oral-B Threader Floss for her permanent retainer and swears by it.

u/nipple_biscuits · 1 pointr/everyteenshouldknow

for flossing you can buy this and it should help. I personally didn't floss

u/Jessicares718 · 1 pointr/braces

I use floss picks that are designed for braces. I order these from Amazon. I also will use easy brush interdental cleaners. The easy brushes are my favorite because they are quick and easy to do between classes and are a bit more discrete than brushing with toothpaste and a toothbrush. These you can pick up at most grocery or convenience stores.

Edit: Added where I buy my favorite products.

u/scottsamonster · 1 pointr/braces

Yes, but there are special teeth picks made especially for braces like these

u/otac0n · 1 pointr/AdviceAnimals

I started flossing after my root canal. It's actually really easy to get started.

Just subscribe to these Plackers

u/beaverji · 1 pointr/Dentistry

I keep the tap running at a hot trickle and rinse the string after every tooth.

But even if you don't..
Thought floss was to mechanically loosen bacteria/biofilm so it can come off with brushing and allow toothpaste/mouthwash/plain water to reach places it normally wouldn't due to plaque?

Also op I like the floss tools with the long plastic handle (like a toothbrush)- you just replace the top plastic bit that holds the string.

Also some tips- (1) my dentist told me gums would bleed for like the first couple weeks or so once you start/or get back into flossing and to not be discouraged. It's just a sign that all the gunk you've had in there was causing inflammation. I can personally attest to this, I floss pretty damn fast and hard now and bleed very little.
(2) What's made me enjoy flossing is paying attention to the stuff that's coming out when I rinse out my mouth after flossing a couple teeth. It's like popping pimples! But it's actually good for your health!

There's a feeling of triumph in driving out the cowardly bastards from their hiding place and annihilating them with your chemical weapons.

Here are some product suggestions (don't have to shove your big ol paws in your maw):

One

Two

I started with "two" but I wanted to be more ecofriendly so I moved onto "one."

And as you can tell I don't give a crap about using new string for new teeth. I rinse, but deliberately and with a great amount of skepticism on the good it would do for me.

I also suffer from ADHD.

u/GreenishApples · 1 pointr/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

Use some of these handy flossers and put them in your car. I find them addicting to chew on on my morning commute, which is about 30 mins.

u/RioTheDragonMan · 1 pointr/reactiongifs

I have one of these too and could not agree more with you. My Orthodontist gave me the floss threaders but they were the worst. I tried flossing with them and it took nearly an hour - and after doing it once, in this case, I would agree with the OP's submission. After trying a bunch of different products, I've come across two awesome ones that I would highly recommend.

The first is Oral-B Glide Threader Floss. It comes individually packaged like a (flexable plastic/wax) needle and thread (don't be intimidated by the word needle, it's not sharp of needle-like, just a little firmer than the floss it's attached to). If you've got braces I'd really recommend giving this one a try.

And the other is GUM Soft-picks which is like a soft, slim proxybrush. I actually just started using these and absolutely love them.

u/CozzaFrenzy · 0 pointsr/Waxpen

i use these and “floss” into and around it to lift it up and out
