Always use blinkers, even not when transporting! If you don't use blinkers you deserve to be pulled over all the time...

I also recommend using some sort of diversion safe, like this one I have. They go on sale a lot.

Here are a few: A hairbrush diversionary safe. Here's a regular itty bitty safe for like $60. If my inlaws ever come to stay with us, I'm definitely getting one to keep all our baby-prevention devices safe...

u/ChimericalRequem · 15 pointsr/raisedbynarcissists

So I did a post online a while back about how to hide stuff from parents, and here's some of the stuff I included. There are a variety of hidey objects on Amazon. This hair brush safe is a good example. Or this dictionary. You can also use air vents- remove the front plate of the air vent, and you can hide stuff. You can also use a cereal box. Eat half of the cereal, lift up the plastic bag of cereal, and put your wallet in the box. Then put the cereal back on top. You can do a similar thing with your trash bin in your room, as long as you remember to keep it partly full. (Not too full that the N may empty it, but also not so empty that you can see something in the bottom.) Just keep the trash in a bag in the bin, and have your wallet in the actual bin underneath the trash in the bag. You can also buy a cheap vase and flowers from the dollar store, put your wallet inside, then cover the top with easter grass so anyone looking inside can't tell what's in it. You'll want a vase that isn't see-through, but you can always paint it if you can't find one.

I wonder if I should make a post on this subreddit about this, but I'm not sure if people would find it helpful.

I deleted Facebook, and hide my keys, wallet, and phone. I have thought about getting this .When I get lost in booze during my benders I am trying to get off this planet. I am not trying to become inebriated / enlightened and tell people how I feel, buy things I suddenly want, and go places I didn't know I had much an urge to go to. It used to be a big problem for me, but hasn't been for a few months now. I stock up and I stay home. I spend all the time between these drinking sessions trying to be dry for as long as possible. I hope you find something that works for you.

The linked post is my recent hobby/boredom project of making a decoy safe. See the Imgur album for specifics on the steps I took.

This all arose out of another recent and odd hobby, ancient coins. Long story short, I spent a whole weekend watching HBO's show Rome, and since then have been engrossed in learning about ancient history. I'm deep into the History of Rome Podcast, read the Epic of Gilgamesh, and bought some Dogfish Head beer that's based on a 2700 year old recipe. Then in the midst of all this I impulse purchased a few [Roman/Byzantine coins](https://www.reddit.com/r/coins/comments/d9j603/1400_year_old_coin_2700_year_old_beer_3800_year/) because I thought it would be cool to hold them while reading The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. Then I realized that I can't have solid gold coins laying out on my shelf... so why not buy a safe.

Well it turns out that pretty much every safe under $2000 is useless, so I started looking into decoy safes, like this [Dictionary](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TOBM1K/ref=s9_acsd_topr_hd_bw_b2fUzaF_c_x_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-10&pf_rd_r=M7ME2P6Y5XD9Y60N8BMW&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=a1fda1f1-2800-5bb0-be41-5f0628f1299c&pf_rd_i=2445482011). But really, who the hell has a dictionary on their shelf, so I began looking into hollowed out books like [this one](https://www.etsy.com/listing/531078732/covobox-electronics-hider-o-hidden?gpla=1&gao=1&utm_campaign=shopping_us_ColorMille_sfc_osa&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_custom1=0&utm_content=9489090&gclid=Cj0KCQjwuZDtBRDvARIsAPXFx3DKFGuD6NLPqNj8N6RF2W_jIfrz3K6YGj4nyJGDgZPJPkLv_0lm2y0aAuHkEALw_wcB), but that would have been about $250 for the size I needed. So then I embarked on the project linked above.

All in all, the project itself is probably wholly necessary, as I've just posted my secret to reddit and basically told all my friends about it because I think it's cool. Also, keeping valuables in your home is usually not the best idea. Also also, gold and silver are terrible investments.... but they are shiny and I've always wanted a treasure chest.

So TLDR: HBO show -> impulse purchase of antiquities -> cheap safe -> idea to spend hours hunched over textbooks with an xacto knife -> lockbox that is probably 10% more secure than it was. But it was fun to tinker with.

u/thepatman · 7 pointsr/legaladvice

u/whatchamacallit1 · 6 pointsr/trees

Im sorry but these are doing more harm then anything.

The label is a give away.

They have an odd weight.

Buying one of these stashes with liquid is a bad idea.

Just look at items like this. You can throw this in your car and like 99% of people wouldnt even think twice if your female. The bottle is just a bad bad bad idea. Even from a small town a cop can just turn it upside down and realize something is off with it.

Ditto on this, OP should def act like he knows what he's doing. If he worried about getting caught, I invested in one of these a while ago and it hasn't failed me yet. Just put the product in there, sit it in your cup holder, and don't drive like an asshole.

u/switchedatdivorce · 5 pointsr/raisedbynarcissists

The car is in her name so she essentially owns it and can take it away at any time, and she can claim you stole it if you took it from her when you move out. Just bewcause you pay the note, doesn't mean the car is yours. The car is yours when your name is on the title, yours and yours alone.

I'd say tell her you want your $2k back, return the car, and find something on Craigslist to buy in full so you only pay car insurance. Sure the car won't be nice, but it will get you to A and B. That's the only thing that matters. I owned my first car for a year before I got rid of it for a new one, it cost me $1,200 and it was a 2001 Nissan Altima. Traded it in after a year of saving, got $200 off another car that was originally $2,400 so I only paid $2,200. Owning a car > car payments, absolutely. Gives you time to save up for something new.

In the mean time, buy a safe (I have one of these, silly as hell but it works), find a car you want, buy it, take the title to the DMV, get it transferred to your name, and lock the title away so she can't steal it and get her name on it (which is illegal, by the way). Therefore if she threatens to take your car away or takes your keys, that's essentially theft and she can get in trouble.

This car is absolutely no benefit for you whatsoever. She got the car to exert control over you. That's it.

Testicular atrophy is something you want to avoid for more than just cosmetic reasons. It's not good to let the cells inside your balls shrivel up and die. It'll make a complete recovery less likely, should you choose to come off.

I'm not sure what size you're looking for but this may be your best bet. I've had the medium sized one and it worked great for about a year and a half before I broke it. This would be your best deal because the ones with actual metal are a lot smaller and way more expensive.

u/VideoGameLover · 3 pointsr/homedefense

a burglar would need access for minutes to not only find a well hidden safe, but then to access it. and minutes really make a world of difference.

it really depends on what you wanna store... there's combination and key lock safes that are books. that are, of course, not secure. but if hidden in plain sight, nobody would know a thing, it just looks like a dictionary.
Visit a locksmith that also sells safes, find a T-rated safe, or an E-rated safe (depends on the manufacturer). OR i read a thread where a guy said if you can ask around or send some emails to local businesses, you might find one of them looking to upgrade their safe and they'll let you buy their old one... a properly secure safe will be EXPENSIVE but sometimes businesses will sell an old one of theirs just so they wont have to dick around to get rid of it. there's fast ways to open all of the popular consumer safes..

here's some stuff to look at

https://www.deansafe.com/tltltljesa.html

http://www.empiresafe.com/product-category/hs-home-safes/diamond-tdr/

https://www.safeandvaultstore.com/products/amsec-csc1913-burglar-fire-rated-safe

https://www.safeandvaultstore.com/collections/burglary-safes/products/safeandvaultstore-uc-2720-utility-burglar-chest-uc-2720

whatever you choose to buy. bolt it down no matter what. A safe is a damn good investment. i'd spend somewhere from $850-$2500 on one personally. anything more than that is likely overkill for a residential application. (unless you're storing the fucking holy grail in your closet).

What I would suggest as someone who went through this as well, is to get one of those [book safes.] (https://www.amazon.com/Stalwart-Diversion-Dictionary-Book-Metal/dp/B003TOBM1K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1492130137&sr=8-3&keywords=book+safe) That one is the one I used and it can fit a few in there. There are also some [good butt plugs] (https://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Jeweled-Hmxpls-Personal-Massager/dp/B01DVWU3U0/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1492130395&sr=1-4&keywords=butt%2Bplug&th=1) on Amazon for relatively cheap. Also, if you can find an Amazon locker near you you won't have to risk your parents opening your package.

As soon as you are 18, withdraw the money from your joint account and open another at a different bank, in your name only. Secure the account with a password (that anyone will be required to have) to protect your assets. You'll probably have to explain that you are in an abusive situation at home and that you are trying to ensure no one tries to steal it by either pretending to be you, or by claiming to do anything on your behalf.

Change your paychecks to direct deposit and get a debt card tied to that account. Set up the account to be paperless, stress the abusive situation at home again if necessary. Next, invest in this to hide the card in (or any bank details) when at home. (My husband saw this recently and thought it was hilarious.)

I'm not going to lie here, the fallout from this isn't going to be fun, but this will mean you have that money (that you earned and belongs to you 100%) when it's time to get your own place or get a roommate. If your dad throws a bitchfit, call that police officer ASAP.

As one Jan 17th baby to another, have a happy birthday in 9 days! I'll be out of the country and unable to wish you a happy one next week. (Plus, if you're a nerd like me, the rest of the world writes our birthday as 1701, the same as the number to the Enterprise!)

u/ejp1082 · 2 pointsr/nudism

It's not exactly a beach item, but if you're going by yourself I recommend getting one of those key hides for your car and leaving your valuables (ID, cards, etc) locked inside.

It's not much of an issue, but it's an issue. It's really easy for someone to make off with your wallet if you leave it on the sand and you're in the water. Obviously if you have someone else to keep an eye on it it's not a big deal, but theft does happen.

Also, you should stash a change of clothes in the car. Not because they might get stolen, but mostly because you're likely to have sand everywhere and it's just good sense to have something clean and dry to put on if need be.

a lockable safe shaped like a book could hold a smaller notebook

a safe for letter-sized documents

a cheaper document safe

In addition to increasing your privacy, some of these safes provide water-proofing and fire-proofing for your journal. On the other hand if a burglar visits your home (or your have a druggie in your family) she will assume the safe is full of valuables and steal it.

get a magnetic hide a key and put it under your car with your stuff inside. or just put it in your underwear. you want a big hide a key so u can fit more stuff in. also make sure the magnet is good, otherwise wait to put it until last minute so it doesnt fall when dirivng. some have really good magnets tho and will never fall off so do ur research.

The key word is "hiding". If you put the pills in their original bottles somewhere your folks can't/won't see, that's the solution. It all depends on your situation. If your folks are really looking for stuff, they'll find it. Fake shaving cream, fake wall sockets, all can work.

u/Barking_at_the_Moon · 2 pointsr/chicago

Since what you're storing aren't items of intrinsic value, have you considered a PO Box? They're a lot easier to break into but in reality quite secure and access is often much better than the local bank vault - I think the UPS boxes are mostly available 24/7.

Alternatively, if you're access these documents regularly, it might be worth investing in a small safe to keep at home. Again, with little intrinsic value to the items, they won't be much of a target and you can hide the safe in lots of places. Something like this, tucked away, would probably be all you need and you'll never have to leave home to access it.

u/CunningKobold · 2 pointsr/DnD

The best part is it's cheap! $12 on Amazon! for the cost, I'm VERY happy with the quality. The box is wooden with cork paper inside and a faux leather cover with the design embossed into it, so it looks REALLY nice, especially for 12 bucks. I didn't like the way the die clattered in the bottom so I snagged a bit of felt for it, but that's also only a couple bucks at any given craft store, and it's got a rare earth elements magnet to close the lid, so your stuff stays relatively secure during travel and won't spill out easily.

& always have a hankie or kleenex. Cos you need them. No need to link that. You have them.

If you have pets & you bring them with you, a portable water bowl is an absolute.

Merrel Hiking Shoe/Boot. Your shoe or boot is your preference & depends on the trail, but you will ALWAYS need to replace them every year, at least, if you hike often. The group I hike with favors Merrels. I linked the Amazon Merrel store cos I'm not sure of your trail conditions, climate, shoe/boot preference etc. A good hiking shoe is always at the top of my list when it comes to gear.

Rope. Cos once when we were hiking my dogs missed the trail and jumped down a steep cliff. We had to rescue them. A rope sure would have come in handy!

I've kept things hidden through a small slit in the fabric covering the bottom of my box spring, inside my desktop computer, in the bottom of my backpacking backpack underneath my camping gear, underneath clothes in my dresser, in jacket pockets hanging in my closet, in the attic crawl space accessible from a door in my closet, and more.

In indiana you can legally keep it in your car.
IMO, get a lock box, bolt it or cable lock it in the trunk of your car and keep the unloaded firearm there.
Even if you store it at a friends place I would put it in a lockbox and just ask to store the lockbox in their closet or wherever.

When I went to college here in Arizona I had a ccw and kept my gun either on my person or in a gun lockbox that was disguised to look like a book that I found on ebay.
I was legal and worse case I would have had to change schools, check Indiana laws and make sure it's just college policy you would be breaking and nothing that could get you into real legal trouble.

Approx 2 layers of foam will fit in the book safe. Use scissors to cut out shapes for vials. Enough room for at least 10x 10ml vials, plus you could just throw in a bag of orals.

Put the book on a high-enough shelf, because the "pages" look fake. Other than that, it's a great way to prevent snooping, and if you shook it or dropped it all dem gainz are safe inside.

Maybe a diversion safe- that looks like a book or a wall clock or an electrical outlet. Several options on amazon under twenty dollars- could even be a gift you give him if he agrees to use it instead of any other random spots.

I have good fun with a box like this
Then I put my spells on colored note cards with color representing spell level. That way, when my wizard preps spells each morning, I lay out the spells I want on the table in front of me and turn them over when I use them.
I also throw in white sheets of paper for scrolls and labeled popsicle sticks for wands.

I wouldn't have a gun accessible in a situation like yours. I wouldn't feel the need to get it completely out of the house, but I would make it hard to access. You could get a time-lock safe for your carry weapon.

Even though I have no sleepwalking issues and I don't walk around half-awake, I don't keep my firearm accessible at night. I have kids, and kids do stupid things like sneak out, sneak in, come home at all hours, have friends over, etc. I did recently pick up pepper spray to have at home.

Well there's this, but I don't think the DNA would last long.

The link that OP posted is not a buy-it-now link. The manufacturer website is https://briefsafe.com/buy-now for $19.99

It WAS available for prime shipping on Amazon for $14.99 but looks like it is now sold out and is only available for non-prime for $18.99
