I second (third?) this! I got my son the Caring for Animals Farm and he LOVES it. So much so that I got then got him the Little People House thinking it would be a big win as well, but not so much. He loves putting the animals in the farm stalls and closing the doors.

The first toy (well, toys) I got was the gift set: it was (and still is, I think) the most accurate thing you can find, with the blindbag ponies. The only issue is that Celestia is pink, but there's no version of her in her show-accurate color available as of yet, unfortunately...

As for how I explain it to my family...They know I'm a fan of the show, and they understand that it's a good show. It's not much different than the other figurines I have from video games and other shows I enjoy.

 

As for an official Luna toy, there is one, even as a duo with Celestia, but, er...See for yourself.

Why are they trying to make Princess Celestia the main focus of the toys? She's central in the friendship pack, she has a talking figurine... she's a side character at best.

This was all I could find online, most stores like Target, Walmart, and Toys R Us don't have a very good catalog online of pony toys so you will probably have to check the stores. (I am not sure if that is the right price or not it was all I could find though)

Edit: Could someone with that set confirm the actual price? I don't trust Amazon's pricing as it seems a bit high.

I think my tastes in salt and pepper shakers is unique.

And this could probably be considered unique or odd because it is for my husband and son.

Which solid molds are you looking for? There are two kinds; the blind bags and the Gift Set.

Now the gift set is simple: It comes with AJ, PP, TS, Spike, and Tia. It also comes with a book though it's a bit... well it's pretty crappy, but it's there. Costs about $25 on Amazon.

The Blind Bags are a bit more complicated. In the UK BB ponies are sold individually (Like 2 euros each I think?) and have a few different ponies than the US BBs which are all sold in one big box only at Toy R US (Also $25 for 12 ponies) (edit: see update!).

Some notes:

• Gift Set ponies are roughly the same size as brushables. They can fit in and use most other pony stuff (such as Twilight's Balloon).
  
  
• Blind Bag ponies are SMALL. They're not going to look great on a shelf but they're good on a desk. However at least there's a full set of them.
  
  
• There are currently no plans to finish the Gift Set (So no RD, FS, or Rarity coming). However if you're somewhat crafty and not afraid of a dremel tool you might be interested in purchasing some molds from OtakuSquirrel

I love Pinky pie, and I should win so that I can give her a loving home and she can keep Rainbow Dash company!

I was able to find a 4-pack of the new plastic-haired ponies with Rainbow Dash, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity and Pinkie Pie -- they look pretty good, and are in stock on Amazon right now. The older models with actual hair manes always looked a bit... creepy to me. Princess Celestia is the only one that pulls it off and looks like the new show. Of course, there's also that 4-pack of the new plastic-haired ponies with a strange-looking Spike, Celestia, Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, and Applejack that everyone knows about. Poor Fluttershy, left out in the cold again.

This is an alicorn and a unicorn and a dragon!

If I could, I would love to have Twilight Sparkle for a day. She's purple, and we'd read books.

Some random ponies come in those figure packs (example of the big pack on Amazon). I wish more relevant ones did, such as the CMC, princesses, spike, and discord. These are the only official merch (besides the DVDs of S1,2 and the movie) I have personally spent money on. I currently have this figure sitting on top of my thermostat. We have random figures of random stuff hidden around our house (Pokemon, Spiderman, Bionicles)
