I'm not a plumber but have you tried the drain snakes you can buy for showers and sinks? They cost less than five bucks and you can typically find them at Walmart and other places. The one I have on hand is called "Drain Rooter Wave Design."

Anytime I start to notice that the water is collecting in the tub during a shower I'll use it to grab out any excess hair from the drain. The first time we used it, it brought up so much gunk...a mix of matted hair and bits of soap that had collected in the first few feet of the drain pipe.

Stuff like soap and toothpaste can get caught up in hair in the drain and cause it to mat up and swell and block water flow. It was seriously gross but also kind of amazing how much came up using this tool that only cost a few dollars.

Here's a link to one on Amazon so you can see what it looks like. Hope this can help some folks out! Roto Rooter 301686 Drain Snakes https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KQ6JD7I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_B4gezbJEFE0QA

Don't worry about the lime. That is not the problem. Chances are you've got a giant hair ball plugging the line. Showers seem to suffer a lot from these things. Use something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/AUSAYE-Cather-Shower-Cleaner-Remover/dp/B07FFVT6KG

What you will pull out will be nasty, and stink to high heaven. But your drain should flow freely.

If it's just the shower clogging up these things work really well.

u/ftssiirtw · 2 pointsr/Adulting

These things, are cheap and easy to use and can often be all that is needed to get a drain working again. As a lifelong renter I have had one of these because it only takes 5 minutes to use it and I can't be arsed to call my landlord over something trivial like this. If this doesn't work then the clog in your drain isn't in your suite and a real plumber would be required. Plus you can get a chance to see some really really grimy stuff using one of these, which can be fun.

Try a wet and dry shop vacuum, just hold it against the trap arm and seal it with a damp rag. See if you can vacuum the clog out. If the vent for that drain goes though the roof you can tape it off first.

You can buy small drain cleaners of Amazon if you want to invest in one.

What you buy might depend on the tool system you have already bought into as an electrician. Dewalt, Milwaukee, that sort of thing.

I have one of these

If that is to much money for you try a manual auger

Buy THESE hair catching things. I have used them. They are brilliant. But the stuff they pull up nasty, so wear gloves.

OBD2 wasn't so bad. I bought an OBD2 extender cable, cut off the connector I needed, then connected the wires the Maestro needed to the correct wires on the OBD2 connector. Threw the other end in the trash and now I have an obviously used OBD2 port (apparently it will freak out if you try and plug in two things at once).

The hard part was finding and tapping all the wires for my car for SW control; not helped by the fact that the directions iDataLink provided for a 2011/2012 CRZ were wrong. Again, your Wrangler will not have this problem at all because it will be a plug and play kit. Only tapping you need to do is for OBD2, and I'd recommend my solution.

I can't speak to how hard going from dash cavity to OBD2 port on a Wrangler was, but on my CRZ it was super easy. A flex grabber like this one made super short work of the problem.

The razor head alone won't cork it up, its all of the hair and gunk that's down there too. The razor head might come up with the hair. Get yourself these or make a hook at the end of a wire hanger as a jury rig snake, snag that stuff and pull it out.

There is a water filled trap down there, it would take forever to dry it out enough to use a vacuum that can't handle water. It would get stinky too.

The Walmart one is worth a try if you have it. . I have similar one on board but it's disposable. Single use really. [this] (https://www.amazon.com/41348-Kwik-Spin-Spinner-AUTOFEED-Cleaner/dp/B00AQ4C1B6) is more money but will do a better job and will last more than 1 or 2 times. Use the clean out in pic 5.

Those have worked for me many times. If it's a long clog, it'll merely drill through it. If it's grease in your lines, it won't clean it off.

Harbor freight does sell snakes but dont buy them. You will break your toilet if you try to run a power snake through it. You can try a toilet auger but the ones sold at hardware stores are realy flimsy, profesionals use this: https://www.amazon.com/RIDGID-Toilet-Clogged-Toilets-Renewed/dp/B07QM2WX4W/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?adgrpid=55686021323&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIp4fCkdXo5QIVFv_jBx12HwxVEAAYASAAEgL2jvD_BwE&hvadid=274718721998&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9032375&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=3078267056132094940&hvtargid=kwd-301741407530&hydadcr=25034_9903507&keywords=ridgid+toilet+auger&qid=1573698905&sr=8-6 but it requires a bit of technique. Youre goung to have to get toilet bolts and a new wax ring, pull the toilet and remove object from back.

Yah. It’s gross. She is trying to save a clog in your pipe, but this drain catch will solve both problems: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B3QMDQW/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_asIhDb0A3J1J2

Sorry, typo in title. Shower drain (apparently defaulted to "slower" in my title).

Your float switch might be defective if there’s no water keeping it up.

u/SirAdrian0000 · 1 pointr/Plumbing

You need one of these.

But hair alone is usually not enough to clog a drain, there is probably something stuck in there that catches the hair. Get it snaked really good and then try to minimize the amount of hair going down the drain.

if it's crusty and gunky then, yes it goes in a lye tub... I think I only have about 5 gallons in a plastic container... so little more than skillet depth... some of these, like the wagner block logo dutch oven I just washed and then stuck in the electrolysis tank... the wagner #10 heat ring skillet and the lodge lid went into the lye... they'll be ready tomorrow.

I think I just went to the local ace hardware... they carry some of the more old school products... and I think I bought the roebic brand drain cleaner... it is listed as 100% sodium hydroxide... nothing else...

I use a drain snake. We bought one for basically all the pipes and toilets at the store and the one we bought fits in the pipes. Cobra Plumbing 20500 3/8-Inch by 50-Feet Drain Auger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000H5RQCI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_hvoaBb011A24V
